dyerneedpod: We are back with another episode of The Dire Need of a Podcast. I am your host, Chris Dyer, and I am so glad you decided to tune in this week.

dyerneedpod: It's a very unique episode because... I'm not joined by anybody else. I'm not joined by a producer Christian. I'm not joined by Walker. I am not joined by anybody. I And in the words of one of our great... poets.

dyerneedpod: of our generation, Jason Derulo. I'm riding solo. today. But I wanted to keep the content coming. I didn't want to miss another week. So yeah, we're going to keep things pretty chill this week. I've got some stories to share.

dyerneedpod: A few things that have been going on here in my life. And we're just going to hang out for a little bit. Won't keep y 'all too long, and y 'all can go about your the rest of your day. But yeah, we've got ah a running story, running update. We've got a little bit of a golf update. And we've got what might be the most intense six -year -old baseball game in history. A story from from that to share as well. So we'll we'll get into that here in just a second.

dyerneedpod: But... I just want to say thank you so much for the for the feedback. that I've been getting on this. I know. so basically basically been most of my friends listening um to it but the reception's been positive and i love the different kinds of episodes that i'm throwing at you so far you know we got The the intro one, just kind of me and Christian. talking it up and then we had the game night with

dyerneedpod: faith christian and hannah and then we had kind of a staple quality from the spot with walker and i have some ideas i don't know should i preview preview for y 'all. No, I'm not going to preview it for you all just yet. I'm not going to spoil it, but I have a couple lined up for the next few weeks that... um Yeah, I think it's going to be a ton of fun, ton of good content, ton of good.

dyerneedpod: podcasting uh there for for y 'all so i just want to say thank you very very grateful to have some friends that like to listen to this and maybe we can grow it one day but Right now, this is exactly what I want it to be. so There you go.

dyerneedpod: Alright. First things first. We got to talk about what I did this past weekend. Now, if you tuned into the last episode, Quality from the Spot with Walker, you know that I was running a 5K last Saturday.

dyerneedpod: And if I had... if you If you had told me six months ago. No, if you would have told me three months ago that I would be running a 5K, that I would be excited to run, that I would be getting the Lulu running Fast and Free running shorts, that I would be getting the Gooder.

dyerneedpod: running sunglasses and i would be getting this balcony running shoes, I would have laughed At you. I would have thought you were crazy. Okay. But I did it. I ran the 5K.

dyerneedpod: And it wasn't just you know I went around the the neighborhood. you know I actually did an actual race. This was an actual race. put on by a some running club or store in but in the city of grapevine texas and i had a bib There were under other runners. I had like a tracking device. It was the whole shebang.

dyerneedpod: And it was so... Much. fun. I, um... Look, let me let me tell you a little bit of a history. of myself here. I... always viewed running as a punishment.

dyerneedpod: right I played baseball growing up. I played basketball growing up. I played volleyball growing up. Those sports, while there is running involved, you know, in baseball, running through the bases, in basketball especially, there's a lot of running in basketball. But if you got in trouble, what did you do?

dyerneedpod: Get on the line. do some sprints right do 17s do suicides you know and dive lines and volleyball right it it always The punishment was always running focused.

dyerneedpod: So that made me hate it. I hated it. It always got in my head. is like is It was a punishment, plus I have some feet problems. I have very, very flat feet. yeah Okay.

dyerneedpod: And. Growing up, I can remember all the way back into middle school where I would have certain basketball shoes that... when I would put them on and play a game, my feet would be killing me during the game and after the game would just be killing me. um I don't think it's like plantar fasciitis or anything like that. I mean, I've had it since since I was a kid. I just think I have very flat feet. um And the... the the improper shoes.

dyerneedpod: ah causes is to flare up, I guess. So I know I had a pair of Jordans back in my Memphis days that caused my feet just to ache when I played. But like right now. I have a pair of Sabrina 2s, I think they are, that um i I ball in and my feet have never once felt uncomfortable in those shoes. They feel great when I play. So I know that if I find a good shoe that makes you know that fits my foot, that gives me the proper support.

dyerneedpod: It. It's going to be a... um it's going to It's going to be just fine. So I think I found that. I actually bought a pair of New Balance running shoes. So I went to... dallas running company the store in south lake and i you know i went to the one in in What's that place called? It's in Plano, Texas. um It's escaping me. It's okay. I went to a store in Plano, a Dallas running company, and I got fitted. and He brought out a few options.

dyerneedpod: And it was a Brooks, a New Balance, and I can't even remember the third brand it was. But I ended up going with the New Balance Rebel V5s, I think is what they were called. And they felt good in the store, but obviously I knew that until I went on you know an actual run, I wasn't going to.

dyerneedpod: really know if this shoe fit my foot or not because it's kind of hard when you're just walking around the store and you hop on the treadmill for a few you know, couple seconds or whatever to really tell. So I went to the store.

dyerneedpod: i sorry i bought the I bought the shoes and I was fired up. I went on a run. And. not even a half mile in, feet started hurting like they always do. And I'm like, ah, yeah. This is not for me. This is not for me.

dyerneedpod: Went on the second run just to kind of confirm it yet felt the same thing So I went back to a different location and told him like hey This is what I got fitted into. um,

dyerneedpod: Kind of wanted to be a little bit more open here I kind of told him about my feet problems in the past and kind of gave him all the information that they might need The lady was super awesome, super helpful. Shout out. And she... brought out a pair of salchimies, and...

dyerneedpod: My feet. during the race. I did not. Have one. I did not have one complaint There was not one. Bit of... pain or anything like that. so All that to be said, kind of long -winded there. I got fitted, found the right running shoe. which was huge. That was huge for me. Okay. Okay. Let's get back on track here. ah Let's see here.

dyerneedpod: without with my buddy Curtis and my brother -in -law Christian. They all ran it with me. and Curtis will probably listen to this episode, so I want to give him a quick shout out.

dyerneedpod: That boy... when they Said go. Took off. And we were going to we were going to be running together. right The whole goal of this was you know to complete this together. This was my first race. Curtis' has run. a half marathon before. I know Christian did... cross country in school so he's ah you know he's really good at running but they wanted to do this with me, right? And so Curtis took off and...

dyerneedpod: But before this, I don't think I ran a mile faster than... 11 -something. I think, maybe. um But that first mile... We ran under 10 minutes. It was like a 9 .55 first mile. And that was the fastest mile that I have ah ran.

dyerneedpod: ah Kind of since I got back into running now in middle school or whatever, you know, when you're doing your mile, I think I was eight minute or nine minute mile. No problem. But since being an adult, this was the fastest mile that I have ran. And he took off. And afterwards, I was like, dude, I thought you were going to you told me.

dyerneedpod: Do not go out fast in a race. Go out slow. And he's like, screw that. um We're done. Full steam ahead. And we took off. And obviously there was faster people than than us. But there was also slower people than us. We were kind of right in the middle of the pack. but I ended up setting my fastest mile.

dyerneedpod: setting my fastest 5k and that was the third time that i completed 3 .1 miles uh you know i did a couple leading up to the race so it just a great sense of accomplishment I think it's it's mostly...

dyerneedpod: I'm i' the most proud because it's something that I said that I was never going to do. Right. It's something that I swore. I promised friends almost. like I told people, like if you ever...

dyerneedpod: see me running, just know something's wrong with me or something happened. And look, I did it for fun and I chose i chose to do it. And now what's next, right? I want to do a 5, sorry, a 10K. I think there's one in December that Curtis and I are looking at.

dyerneedpod: um, potentially doing. So that's the goal. Next is to knock off the 10K. Um, and And then... Curtis. is having a baby. Him and his wife are having a baby in February. Sorry, no.

dyerneedpod: February? March? In march and March, excuse me, and and Christian and Faith are having a baby in February. And then I know my buddy Walker might be interested, but we might look for a half marathon later in 2027. So 10K by the end of the year, or maybe even in January if it lines up for the schedule better, and then half marathon by the end of 2027.

dyerneedpod: There you go. um All right. That's the running update for y 'all. Let's see here. Hmm. All right, speaking of hobbies that make me question my own sanity, because running really is making me do that. like what am i What have I become?

dyerneedpod: Let's talk about... is golf. The very complicated but amazing game of golf. So. I... I have broken 80. Now...

dyerneedpod: for those of y 'all that don't know much about the golf world you know the recreational golf world Let me just put it this way. If you can break a hundred. You're better than most golfers in the in the world I don't know the exact number.

dyerneedpod: But if you can break 100, you can play. You can play golf. Right. You're better than most people. if you break 90, you're just that much better. Like there's not a ton of people that have broken 90.

dyerneedpod: right and again compared to all the people in the world and if you break 80 you're kind of like an an elite and then obviously if you shoot under par you're even more elite so it just gets more and more elite But I have broken 80. handful of times, maybe 10. 15 times in my life.

dyerneedpod: probably 10 times in my life, okay? So I've done it. I did it, i think let me think about this, I think I did it three times last year. But that is...

dyerneedpod: The... thing i'm trying to get back to that is the battle to break 80 again

dyerneedpod: And. it has been escaping me And it's been so frustrating because... What it really comes down to breaking 80. is piecing together just a good round of golf.

dyerneedpod: Right? doesn't mean you have to be... Perfect. Because golf is a game that you're never going to be perfect at. but it's just having a good... day in the office.

dyerneedpod: Right? It's ah not having any blow -up holes. but it's just piecing together 18 holes, right? And that's where it's been so frustrating for me because I will have... stretches where I go, I shoot one under par for, you know, you know, several holes. And then maybe I, but you know,

dyerneedpod: Front nine, I shoot a... 37 when it's a par 36 one over but then the back nine i just i shoot 10 or 11 over and it just ruins the card the scorecard right like i i just i was i'm having such a hard time piecing together that front and that back nine that it is becoming very very frustrating I played golf last Thursday. Now...

dyerneedpod: I... Let me think about this. I was one over par after nine holes and I ended up shooting an 81 and it's a par 80. Sorry, it was par 72, I believe. So I think I shot a 10 over par.

dyerneedpod: If that made out on the math the math is hard, you know, let me take a second here, so if it's I wish I went over this. Finished with an 81. I don't know. Whatever it was. I...

dyerneedpod: But here's, okay.

dyerneedpod: I was striking the ball so... Well, I. Game off the tee. It was fantastic. I was putting myself in the fairways, hitting a lot of fairways. My iron game and approach play was the best it's ever been. You want to know what it was?

dyerneedpod: You want to know what... messed me up. Last Thursday. Putting. I had 40 putts. Now if you know golf, that is a lot of putts to have. I had 81 total strokes.

dyerneedpod: Almost half of them were were putts. That should not happen. Okay, that should not happen. And I think I three putted. like four holes in a row. And I was... just It was driving me crazy. I was leaving everything short. Now, I think the greens were rolling a little bit slow. But that was no excuse. Get used to the greens. Get used to the speed. Adjust, Chris.

dyerneedpod: So. I say all that just... Because I'm going to have my buddy Curtis on the podcast here in a couple weeks. and We're gonna talk a little bit about golf and kind of our golf journey because he's my golf buddy He's also my running buddy. um But I just...

dyerneedpod: He's a very good golfer. He challenges me, but... I just want you to know that the the quest for 80 is alive. And I want to keep you all updated because it's something that's passionate. for me. um The quest for seventy of that shooting that 79 continues. I'm actually playing golf tomorrow, but I'm playing a hard course. I'm playing tour 18 in Flower Mound, Texas. And it's going to be windy. It's going to be windy. And the cool thing about this course is...

dyerneedpod: It - Each hole is designed after a famous hole in the U .S. It's a replica hole. so There's a thing at the Masters, Augusta, called Amen Corner. Well, 16, 17, 18 at Tor 18 is their version or kind of ah a copycat version of...

dyerneedpod: Amen Corner. They have the famous Island Green at Sawgrass as the ninth hole at Tour 18. They have a hole from Oakmont. um So it's it's a really cool concept. It's a hard course. It's a pretty challenging course. It's going to be very windy, 20 to 30 mile per hour winds. So I don't know if the... the breaking 80 achievement is going to be done. ah Tomorrow, but... Next time on the pod, I'll let you know if it is.

dyerneedpod: Okay. Now to the main draw, to the main card. This coach pitch game that I got to witness firsthand Alright.

dyerneedpod: So... Kind of just setting up the story here. My son, Caleb. Six years old. First year of coach pitch. All right, and... when I say that Okay, so, you know...

dyerneedpod: you hear about those stories of crazy parents or you know competitive parents and and whatever but I am seeing it first hand that like parents take this So.

dyerneedpod: freaking seriously. It's unbelievable. And I told myself I was never going to be. that parent that did that. But I honestly find myself like I was, so I help out and I was actually coaching the dugout.

dyerneedpod: uh during this game on Tuesday but I found myself like getting worked up and like yelling and telling the kids to go the extra base and it's coach pitch these kids are five and six years old but uh Okay.

dyerneedpod: So. kind of you know setting the scene again like This is our third game of the season.

dyerneedpod: as a night game, a Tuesday night game under the lights. That was super cool, too, because I just remember, you know, scenes from memories from my baseball growing up that, you know, when we would play those weeknight games under the lights and it just seemed. you know It was just more special. It was just extra special. It seemed to mean a little bit more. And it's a pretty competitive league. Like like I said, these parents and these coaches take this so... Seriously.

dyerneedpod: So let me tell you how it all unfolded. First ending. We're the home team, so we're in the field first. bottom of the ah Top of the first.

dyerneedpod: The other team, just they're just... hitting the ball. they they they it's So it's a five -run max per inning. So you can only score five runs max. They put a five spot up there against us.

dyerneedpod: Just like that. So we're down 5 -0 immediately. And then in the bottom of the first inning, you know, so or We have two kids that are really good. like I'm talking like these kids can hit it out of the infield, which at this age is pretty pretty insane. But we have two kids that are really good. So we score three runs. in the bottom so we're down five to three And I can't remember how many runs they scored in the top of the second, but in the bottom of the second.

dyerneedpod: So we have a good mix. We have those two kids that are really good. Caleb's kind of like right in the middle there. Pretty solid player. We have some kids that are worse. but In the second inning.

dyerneedpod: Oh my gosh. it it It absolutely fired me up. I'm literally, so I stood up from my chair to tell this part of the story. But in the bottom of the second inning. Every single kid.

dyerneedpod: Hit the ball. and got on base. And it's kids that that that aren't as good, right? It's kids that struggle. Like we're hitting the ball and getting RBIs and going around the bases. Caleb, you know, he got an awesome hit and he went around and he scored and all the parents were just jumping and going crazy. and And the coaches were just giving high fives. absolutely electric.

dyerneedpod: I was just so proud of these kids and this team because we've we've been working at practice, right? You know, we've been putting in the in the hard work and it paid off in that second inning. So we score five. So I think it's eight to something, but I'll fast forward a little bit for the sake of time here. but We... um

dyerneedpod: it gets to the Hot. of the fourth inning okay and they go ahead i want to say by four runs they go ahead 12 to eight. Okay. So I don't think we scored in the third inning. I think that's what it was. So we scored three in the first. five in the second, zero in the third. So going into the bottom of the fourth inning, we are down 8 -12. Right. Okay.

dyerneedpod: And. We get one run. No, no. Yes, sorry. We get one run and then we end up loading the bases for one of our really good kids, okay?

dyerneedpod: This kid.

dyerneedpod: hits the ball. An absolute rocket down the third bass line. And. Into the outfield. And clears the bases. We had bases loaded. He hits a grand slam. Inside the park. A grand slam. To put us up. 13 to 12. Okay, so we were down 12 -8 going into this inning. We left it...

dyerneedpod: Bases loaded Grand Slam 13 to 12 oh my gosh and with all the kids like I was again coaching the bench and so I was like just getting fired up and oh Also. I just want to say first two games, none of the kids were doing any chanting.

dyerneedpod: But ah this game that I coached the bench, every kid was doing the, let's go, Caleb, let's go. but but but let's yeah Every single bat, they were cheering. So I got the kids fired up. That's what I love doing. But they were going crazy. hit the you Go ahead, Grand Slam. 13 -12.

dyerneedpod: We have time for one more half inning. I was hoping they were going to call the game there, but no, we went out in the field for the top of the fifth. The coach. precedes to So it's coach pitch, right?

dyerneedpod: The way coach proceeds. so to strike out the side. He strikes out. three of his batters back to back to back they don't get anybody on base and we win the game 13 to 12.

dyerneedpod: And it's not like it was the bottom of the lineup. It was the top of their lineup. And he strikes them out. the None of the kids made contact. And we win the game. So we had in the bottom of the fourth, Grand Slam go ahead.

dyerneedpod: In the top of the fifth, their coach strikes out their three batters, strikes out the side, and we win 13 -12. It was electric. It was one of the most fun experiences. And just. man.

dyerneedpod: Growing up playing baseball, now having my son play baseball under the lights, like I mentioned, in and having this kind of environment, it just... Like. It was peak y 'all like it it brought such a smile to my face and I haven't really stopped thinking about it since and I just

dyerneedpod: It was such an awesome experience. And yeah, so I hope, you know, if y 'all have kids, you have something that you're, you know, that you were passionate about when you were a kid, kind of growing up or whatever. And you get to see that joy in your your children or your kid doing that, you know. something that you love to do so i hope you all get that one day because it was it was peak um Okay.

dyerneedpod: Let me go through my notes here. I kind of went all over the place. During this episode. I hope you all enjoyed this. Just wanted to share a few stories. Again. Wanted to get content. Out there. And not miss a week. um Okay, let me...

dyerneedpod: Go to a different note. So bear with me. I don't know if this is great podcasting, but that's going to be okay.

dyerneedpod: Let's wrap this up. Okay. ah Let me check. Has anybody sent me an email? And if the answer is no, I'm going to be mad at y 'all. Let's go to my email here.

dyerneedpod: The only people that are sending me It's like support for the for the software that I use to record this. like Friends. Send me an email. ah Okay, it maybe it's 2026 and it's like, who does emails anymore? Let me just text you.

dyerneedpod: Send me a text. No, so I want an email. I want an email. direneedpod at gmail .com. D -Y -E -R. need pod So d -y -e -r -n -e -e -d -p -o -d at gmail .com. I'll spell it out for y 'all. So that way there's no excuses.

dyerneedpod: No excuses. Let me think about this. Do I want to give a little reward here? Actually, here's the question. Here's the question I want y 'all to email me.

dyerneedpod: What?

dyerneedpod: Here's a question

dyerneedpod: What is one thing? that you had as a kid. experience as a kid that you loved as a kid. That you are just fired up to hopefully have your kid one day experience that. Okay. That's going to be your question.

dyerneedpod: Email direneedpod at gmail .com. and tell me the first person to do that, we will have you on as a guest. at some point. Now, you might already be queued up to be a guest, and if that's the case, well then...

dyerneedpod: Two birds with one stone. Am I right? but Um... So that's how you can contact. Continue to like the pod, follow the pod, share the pod, ring the bell on the pod, review the pod. I think I have one review right now.

dyerneedpod: You can do that on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Alright. ah producer Christian should be back next week so you won't just have me solo but I have so multiple I'm going to preview it a little bit multiple special guests joining next week And that should be a super fun episode. These are people that listen. They're listeners. They listen every week, so I can't wait to bring them on. And then we'll have my buddy Curtis.

dyerneedpod: uh to talk about A little bit of life. He's a dad you know he's a dad of of one, about to be a bad a dad of two in ah you know several months. So we'll talk a little bit of fatherhood, talk a little bit of golf.

dyerneedpod: Uh... Probably won't talk any work, although we work together, so we'll we'll save you all that. um And then... The next one I want to tease is a potential girls takeover.

dyerneedpod: where Faith and Hannah take over the pod, I get a break, and they lead this thing. So that could be... Insane. This is my little baby. I'm kind of giving control for a week. So that could be a good thing. It could also be a little bad thing. We'll find out. It's going to be a ton of fun. But thank you all for tuning in. I will stop rambling at you now. I hope you all enjoyed. Let me know. Shoot me a text if this was fun.

dyerneedpod: And I hope you all have a great. Rest of your day. And we will talk to you all next week. Later.
