Introduction to Hand Therapy Academy

Hi, I'm Josh McDonald. And I'm Miranda Materi, and we are Hand Therapy Academy. So we're going to start this off. This is our first podcast. We're kind of excited about this. That was our first go at it. But we wanted to introduce ourselves and kind of explain who we are and what we're doing and why we're doing a podcast.
Foundation and Mission of the Academy
00:00:24
Speaker
Yeah. So we decided to start Hand Therapy Academy about five years ago. And all of our our mission was to provide education in a way that was fun, interactive, and not judgmental.
Expanding into Podcasting
00:00:37
Speaker
So we have been in the social media space for over five years and we've been selling continuing education for about that long as well. And now we're getting into the podcasting space just to continue to share the message and share our knowledge about hand therapy.
Centralizing Educational Materials

And then what we wanted to do, like Miranda said, share information that seems like it's tough to find information out there. It seems like there's this, there's people are hanging on to information that this stuff is out there, but it's available to find, but it's hard to collect it all in different places.
Inspiration through Social Media

Speaker
Like I know when I started out, I had,

home exercise program handouts that were from all kinds of different sources and they were all in different people's letterhead and they were all crooked copies. And so we thought, why don't we standardize some of this and make it so that patients can read it. It looks professional and it's out there and easy to get. So even on Instagram, we're putting stuff out there that is just content that maybe sparks the thought for you to go look into something or share something you didn't know about. Hey, there's a cool treatment idea or there's an anatomy thing I maybe didn't know, those

kinds of things. So that's what we wanted to do with this podcast too.
00:01:40
Speaker
Yeah, and make it inspiring and make it fun for others. So we all share the love of hand therapy together. And with the podcast, we want to share these short clips. We don't want them to be these long drawn out things. So we want to try to keep them in the 10 to 15 minute range.
Diving into Complex Topics
00:01:55
Speaker
And we're going to be just talking about different topics like, okay, this is the Gail growth pyramid. This is the VC and DC. So just kind of highlights of what you need to do in hand therapy. And also if you're getting ready to take the certification exam,
00:02:10
Speaker
this might be a good resource for you.
00:02:13
Speaker
And so we're not gonna get super deep in the weeds, but we are gonna talk about some complicated things.
Encouragement for Further Exploration
00:02:18
Speaker
And so one of our first ones is gonna be on wrist kinematics, and that's a hugely deep subject matter. So know that we can't possibly exhaustively cover all of that. You get chapters and books and articles and all that stuff, but we're gonna have a conversation to kind of expose you to some ideas and maybe ring a bell or two, and then maybe inspire you to look some stuff up. So this is much to kind of have an open conversation about things and hopefully kind of spark on more study on your part too.
Conclusion and Future Excitement

All right, guys. We look forward to having you listen. See you later. Bye.
