Understanding Pain as a Signal
00:00:03
Speaker
This is my personal meditation for handling menstrual cramps. Pain is a messenger. Pain tells us that there's something wrong. Many times when we can listen to our pain, it will resolve.

Speaker
If your pain doesn't resolve with this session, that's okay. We are not going to be tied to any outcomes here. Going through this process will help connect us with our bodies and we may learn some important messages along the way. Let's get started.
Breathing and Embracing Discomfort
00:00:44
Speaker
Find a comfortable quiet place, sit or lie so that your uterus is free and open and you feel safe. Take a deep breath in and out. You might be feeling pain right now.
00:01:10
Speaker
I want you to fully feel that pain and not be afraid of it. Remember that this is just a signal from your body to your brain and it's not dangerous. Take a deep breath in and out.
00:01:37
Speaker
Your pain might come in waves. If it intensifies, I want you to lean into and fully embrace what's going on in your body. Do not resist the pain, accept it. Deep breath in and out.

Speaker
This pain is a message from your body to your brain. There is inflammation happening in your uterus. Let's understand and embrace this natural process. Take a deep breath in and out.
Self-Reflection and Life Evaluation
00:02:29
Speaker
Your pain is trying to tell you something.
00:02:34
Speaker
Here are some questions to ask yourself. Does something in your life need to change? Are you taking on too much, shouldering too much responsibility? Can you ask for more help? Do you feel safe and valued with the important people in your life?
00:03:02
Speaker
Or are you walking on eggshells around someone? Does something need to change in your relationship or relationships? And do you need to make some difficult decisions to keep people out of your life? Are there boundaries that you need to set with certain people?
Support and Personal Boundaries
00:03:31
Speaker
Are there people you can turn to and express your needs to them safely? How can you get support to feel safe in setting stronger boundaries? Do you need to slow down and take more time for yourself? Do you need to take more time for preparing nourishing healthy foods?
00:04:01
Speaker
As you breathe in and out slowly, ask your pain what it is trying to say.
00:04:10
Speaker
You will now have a few minutes to listen to your pain and figure out what it's telling you. Allow waves of pain to wash over you and do not resist. Just listen to the messages as you breathe in and out. Know that it's okay if the message isn't clear. Focus on accepting the pain.
Listening and Promising Change
00:07:00
Speaker
Now that you have had a chance to listen to your pain and accept it, I want you to think about making a small promise to yourself.
00:07:11
Speaker
What did your pain tell you that you need to do? Is there a small step that would help you alleviate the problem your body is telling you about? Maybe it's just taking your vitamins every day. Maybe it's asking for more help. Maybe it's just making a phone call. For the next few minutes, think now about a small, easy promise to make to yourself based on what your pain told you.
00:07:42
Speaker
Identify the promise and make it to yourself. As you continue to accept your pain, breathe in and out and make that promise to yourself.
00:09:35
Speaker
As you made that promise to yourself, did you feel a degree of relief?
Meditation and Self-Care
00:09:41
Speaker
That's okay if you did or did not. This pain was a beautiful opportunity to turn inwards and take care of yourself. You may uncover levels of pain and different messages your body may tell you. You can do this meditation anytime you feel pain.
00:10:03
Speaker
Now slowly open your eyes with refreshed energy and a feeling of safety. Making and keeping this small promise to yourself will bring you confidence and calm. Know that you are lovable and loved.
