Choosing Pottery for Social Media Influences

00:00:00
Speaker
Something I think about a lot is if I were to meet, you know, somebody on social media that I follow, what type of pottery would I give them? What type of mug would I give them?
00:00:09
Speaker
What is up Shaper Nation? This is Nick Torres here and for those that don't know me it's my mission to help parties like yourself to discover your own unique voice with your pottery. So again, like I said at the beginning of this episode is that I tend to think about if I were to meet someone that I follow on Instagram or follow on social media and I think that I love the advice that they give, I think about what type of pottery would I make.

Drawing Inspiration from Tim Ferriss

00:00:31
Speaker
But this started happening because
00:00:33
Speaker
I was reading Tim Ferriss's Tools of Titans and his book is basically just like a book filled with a bunch of outside feedback from other people. You know, he asked the questions and other people provided the answers and he wrote it in the book. And one of the things in the book, somebody was talking about how if you were to meet like Jimmy Fallon, for example, they give example Jimmy Fallon.

Engaging Celebrities with Unique Questions

00:00:57
Speaker
You were meeting him in the elevator. What type of question would you ask to actually start a conversation? You know, you wouldn't just go up and say. Can I have an autograph or whatever? Because then that's probably not going to listen to response. So and then they give the he gives the example in the book that he said, what if you just ask a really random question or just a thought provoking question? He said the example was what are your thoughts on avocados and.
00:01:24
Speaker
Upon hearing that, you're probably thinking, what are my thoughts about avocado? And so that's just kind of like a way to get the conversation flowing.

Personalizing Pottery Gifts

00:01:31
Speaker
But what would happen if you were to meet a celebrity in real life or somebody like this and you want to maybe express your gratitude towards them and you want to give them a mug, you want to give them some pottery or whatever. What type of mug do you think they would like? And I think this is a really good exercise in thinking of
00:01:53
Speaker
But the other person's viewpoint for, you know, that they're drinking your pottery. What type of mug would my mom like? What type of mug would my sister like? What type of mug would my boyfriend or girlfriend like? I think these are really good questions to ask yourself because now you get a little bit deeper on how to actually make a certain type of mug, a different style, a different type of technique.
00:02:19
Speaker
Because if you can think about if you could be in the other person's shoes for a little bit and like ask yourself What type of mug would they like while also still making what you like as well?

Blending Preferences for Creative Connections

00:02:29
Speaker
Your pottery is gonna grow tenfold because now you're not just thinking about yourself, you're also thinking about other people and how you can help them as well, how you can help them enjoy the experience. It's very important to still make what you wanna make. That is the most important thing no matter what. But if you also combine that with thinking about what other people like, how would they like their handle? How would they like the rim on their mug? How would they like the weight of the mug? Those are some simple things that you can think about
00:02:58
Speaker
while still being able to make what you want to make as well. Because it's so important to think about what other people want because pottery is all about a connection. So connection from your hands to the clay, the clay to the kiln and from in the finished product to whoever's using the pottery. So it's so important to think about

Pottery Inspiration from Celebrities

00:03:17
Speaker
those things. That's why I gave the example earlier is that if you were to meet a celebrity, what type of mug, what type of pottery would you give them?
00:03:24
Speaker
And if you could think through that, think through some like some like some people that you really like, maybe it's like Joe Rogan or maybe it's, you know, like Ryan Reynolds or somebody else, some big name person. Think about what type of mud, what type of pottery you would give them if you ever met them. I think just going through that little exercise will actually help you come up with better ideas, come up with new ideas and also push your pottery a little further.

I hope you guys enjoyed this episode and I'll see you guys in the next one.
