D20 radio, your gamers roll.

Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, a D&D fifth edition actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I am your Dungeon Master, Eric. I'm Philip. I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. And welcome to another episode. Gentlemen, what happened last time? We made a deal with some dragons. That's true. And now we're going to go kill a dragon. A deal with dragons to go kill a dragon.
00:01:15
Speaker
A deal with dragons sounds like a George RR Martin novel. I didn't think about this. What was it keeping them from killing this dragon they want dead, considering it's a group of dragons that want dead? They were just going to go do it. That was where they were on their way too. That's what they were going to do next. Since we have to do this now, take care of this for us. That's right. That's way less scary than we were going to, but we don't want to.
00:01:42
Speaker
There was a third one for a while. Big scary a-hole. We found some suckers.
00:01:46
Speaker
Remember Krast, he was a secret dragon too, but he died. No, not really. Anyway, whoa. Okay, so yeah, you all hopped on to borrowed time to take off, witnessing

Life on the Ship

00:02:00
Speaker
the silver and the blue dragon flying off into the distance. So yeah, what's the plan? Barak leaves. He goes, what's new downstairs?
00:02:17
Speaker
Uh, to his quarters, um, fishes around for some paper and starts writing. Okay. I think Dex is going to retreat to his chamber and read the journal that he found in the, the, uh, bunk room. Okay.
00:02:48
Speaker
Booyah. I'm assuming Booyah by this point in time has a little place where he goes to tinker with things and fiddle with stuff like a little set up in his room or maybe down in the hold or someplace. Yeah. You can say you commandeered Crass's room and turned it into a workshop. There you go. Rickard's still sleeping in a closet. You've got a workshop now. I told him to come out of the closet. Not Rickard's boat.
00:03:16
Speaker
Oh, that's funny. Was Booyah with us when this became our boat? I mean, I know when we officially became our boat, but when Law of the Sea became our boat, or was it there or there? There it at. OK.
00:03:27
Speaker
Okay, so yeah, you all begin, the boat starts heading north at as quick of speed as it could hope to go. Dex, through just being in your chamber and reading the diary that you got, and the diary that you got is from one of the ones that did not have the- Right. Correct, yeah.

Mystery of the Journal

00:03:53
Speaker
No, Booyah has that one, and Dex will be reading it next if we all lend it to him.
00:03:57
Speaker
So yeah, it's a pretty straightforward journal account of the construction of the final touches of this pyramid and the sarcophagi for the giant. But it's clear in the later pages
00:04:23
Speaker
because this isn't like a novel or anything it becomes clear that this elf learned and was straight-up told that he and his compatriots would not be leaving the pyramid once it was done construction like they would be left in there once the door slammed shut to guard over
00:04:48
Speaker
Over the remains of this giant leader. And after that point, the journal entries become less frequent and less specific. Until finally they just there. There's no grand like we closed the pyramid today or anything like the entries just stop a little bit before construction. One thing that give me an a investigation check. 26.
00:05:16
Speaker
One thing that you do note is at no point during the journal entries is the death of this giant leader mentioned. They are they are referenced a few times throughout it as being living, but their death is never recalled.

Preparing for Battle

00:05:33
Speaker
What are you tinkering with?
00:05:38
Speaker
He's fiddling with his crossbow with plainer justice, just trying to see if there's any way to, I don't know, maybe make it better, which, you know, he's just fiddling around with it and checking the mechanisms, oiling it, you know, everything that needs to be done the right way. He's just turning on his crossbow. Give me, I guess probably an investigation check makes the most sense out of anything.
00:06:10
Speaker
OK with your plus one modifiers. So yeah, you like you take it off its mounting on your shoulder and start tinkering with it, looking at the modifications that Bella Shira made to get it to be mounted on your shoulder the way that it was and.
00:06:33
Speaker
I'll get back to you on what you discover with that good role. After a few hours, probably, Barrett goes back up onto deck and goes into the helm to speak to Jace. Charlie is there as well. OK, Barrett's errand is to speak to Jace. OK, that's fine. You can ask Charlie to believe if you wanted. It's not. Oh, hey, what's up?
00:07:03
Speaker
So I understand by the Code of Gallifar and sea law and everything, in addition to being captain of the ship, you can perform weddings and funerals and you're a notary public and you're a certified lifeguard and all of these other... Everything but the lifeguard, yes. Okay, right. Thousands of Julian fries. So I pull out a piece of paper and I lay it on whatever surface is available and I say, all right, then I need you to witness this as an official agent of the state. And Barrick has written out a will
00:07:32
Speaker
Oh, okay. Uh, and Eric offers him a pin. It feels weird, but there you go. All right. And Eric, uh, it turns this, uh, will you to Charlie actually, will you hold onto this until we get to shine? Then I'll have

Ship Life Humor

00:07:53
Speaker
it left with official people. But.
00:07:56
Speaker
If anything goes wrong, evidence suggests you're more on our way there. Evidence suggests you're more likely to be alive at the end of it than I am. Of course.
00:08:05
Speaker
I don't know if the listener heard that, but it's now canon. Jace Quinn just dotted two I's somehow in his signature. So figure that out. There's an umlaut somewhere in there. Yeah, it's a fantasy name, so there's two I's in a row. Jace Quinn. There's an apostrophe. One of them is an apostrophe. The way you get the long A is Jace is spelled A-I. Okay. A-I is J-A-I-S.
00:08:31
Speaker
You know, it is my own fault for bringing it up. OK, so then Barrett goes and sits at the front of the ship and just waits two weeks. OK. Yeah, what else?
00:08:48
Speaker
Not a lot of, not a lot of growth. I guess knowing that we're going back to Sean, Dex would be practicing over the ensuing two weeks with his gloves. Uh, Barrett begins, I mean, during any practice sessions he has with Orianna Barrett, Barrett begins using real weapons.
00:09:05
Speaker
but mostly he is quiet and sits at the front of the ship. Dex also writes to Will. It says literally everything I got is on this boat. I guess just divide it up whoever's left. Whoever loots my body has all of my property. Literally. Everything I have belongs to the man or beast that kills me. Because I... Ron Swanson, Will. I'm fairly certain. Yeah, everything that I own, except for like my bedding, is in my bag of holding that I constantly have with me. Yeah.
00:09:37
Speaker
So if I die and you guys don't get there first, I guess. The odds of me dying and Booyadnaught are very high. For the listener, the dungeon master is rolling on a random table. So if you're wondering whether Barak survives this episode,

Dex's Quest for Strength

00:10:00
Speaker
the odds just went down.
00:10:01
Speaker
So we hope you all enjoyed the last episode of Everon Renewed. We're not sure how it ends yet either, but I have a feeling we'll find out by 3 p.m. this afternoon. It's 2.30. Right, yeah. I always knew it would end like this. With a random table. With Eric rolling on a random table. I mean, honestly, it's already ended twice for you. That's what I'm saying. By it, you mean your friendship with Eric. Oh, well, that too.
00:10:29
Speaker
As we established during the review, we're not friends. This is a purely professional relationship.
00:10:36
Speaker
which none of us get paid. Okay, back to Booyah. Booyah, through your tinkering and everything, you actually find a slight crack in the stone in planar justice that has developed over time, just through general wear and tear. And Booyah being an inquisitive soul is like tinkering with the crack, and it opens up just a little bit more. Right. That's the opposite of what you want.
00:11:06
Speaker
And it shrieks. In pain. You go to take a test shot where you put it back together and take a test shot at a target that you have set up. And as the bolt shoots out, it becomes... I'm trying to think of how to impart this knowledge narratively. It becomes five Bs. Okay, so...
00:11:35
Speaker
Go with me on this. I know I'm taking some liberties with Booyah's workshop, but we literally just made it up. So some of that dragon skin that Dex was wanting tests done on and stuff, Booyah snuck some of it and stretched it over a target to test different weaponry and he shoots it
00:11:55
Speaker
at this target and right before it lands its blow the crossbow bolt becomes covered in frost and like slightly explodes on impact and like when you try to shoot other things that doesn't happen so basically when planar justice shoots, uh, it lands a hit on a dragon it deals 1d6 extra cold damage. Okay.
00:12:19
Speaker
Convenient. There you go.

Lycanthropy Ceremony

00:12:22
Speaker
It's about that time that Dex knocks on Booyah's door and asks for his journal. See table there? Boy, I think you look over there under tools.
00:12:38
Speaker
All right. I mean, this workshop is about as well organized as you would imagine Booyah's workshop. In fact, he's already managed to cover the journal that he just got. It's pretty impressive. So I go over and I look and the things covered in tools I have to assume there's things that Dex assumes Booyah considers tools. Sharp rocks. Right. Exactly. A lot of mud. But I see a hint of paper and I brush off the pine needles.
00:13:06
Speaker
Why you want to read for me? I say boring. Yeah, I know. Uh, uh, yeah, the other one was pretty dry too, but tell story from book. Maybe, uh, we got time on the boat. We'll do that, uh, later, but I'm going to read this for now. Okay. Booyah. Thinker. All right. Cool. Why is your stone screaming?
00:13:32
Speaker
I'll scream. Okay. So reading through the other book. Cause I knew this one was different, right? It wasn't, well, I knew the room was different because I knew about the ambulance stuff. So I would have an impetus to go and check the second book out.
00:13:49
Speaker
Reading through this one, obviously the individual writing in this journal had a different motivation for being there than the other three elves. She clearly was corresponding with somebody outside.
00:14:09
Speaker
of the pyramid and receiving instructions and sending out information, things like that. And you get the sense that her communication was based on some of the wording that's used. Somebody that at least had a passing if not obsessive interest in the draconic prophecy.
00:14:36
Speaker
and how it related to this construction job and specifically the giant that it was being constructed for. There's a lot of correspondence related to you actually get the sense almost based on the writing like she's writing in the journal to somebody so you don't know if there was a way to
00:14:56
Speaker
project what was being written or maybe there's another journal out there tied to this one that if you were to write something in it, because there's also a few very short messages in a different handwriting that was clearly instructional in a language that you cannot read. Can you read your comic?
00:15:20
Speaker
I don't know. I just was looking in a direction. I thought I was like, can I? No, I can't do Draconic. Okay. So yeah, you just based on her response to the writings, it seems like she was receiving instructions and you can easily kind of figure out what was being said. And the safe bet, even though we couldn't really tell from the remains is this had to have been an elf, likely a drow to have been lended in with the rest of the populace, right?
00:15:44
Speaker
Yeah, at least an elf, perhaps a drow. The big thing that you realize is being communicated is there's a lot of health updates on the giant that is being constructed for and at no point, in fact, this elf begins to question whether or not this construction is even for the giant in question. That's what everybody's been told.
00:16:10
Speaker
But the last entry is her sending an outgoing message stating that the giant has not been seen in the pyramid for weeks at this point. Construction is nearing an end and she is fearful that the giant will not be present for the ceiling. And then there's about a paragraph after that of scribbling that you cannot comprehend. That's what you got.

Market Adventures

00:16:41
Speaker
Okay, so. Yes, training with Orianna using live weaponry. She is clearly far more capable than I think Beric was prepared for her to be in terms of live weaponry. Just speaking to her being a higher level than perhaps Beric would have expected.
00:17:08
Speaker
than what she's been doing while we've been gone. Right. Anything else you all want to do before we do a smash cut? Ah, OK. Beric Broods. Story time with Booyah. At some point, Dex has definitely said to Beric, so next time we see Orgev, you're going to ask him for your book back. Beric kind of goes. Right. That was an expected response.
00:17:42
Speaker
Okay, so jumping forward to, you all see the towers of Sharn poking up past the horizon, laying to hoe and all that.
00:17:59
Speaker
Jace lets you all know we're going to be stopping in at, we're going to be stopping in at Sharn so Charlie can resupply the ship. You all probably have a few hours while we get set up. I was just planning on flying through the night, getting us to Fairhaven as quickly as possible. But you all let me know if you want to stay the night or anything like that.
00:18:30
Speaker
Click. Should we take a day in town or I need to, uh, drop off some documents. That's it. All right. I mean, I gotta run. See, I gotta do so. Yes. Tells Charlie to follow him. Do you follow? You need money for stuff. Bye.
00:18:57
Speaker
Oh, I already Cassian found some in the walls. Oh, OK. And full of money. I'm getting pretty good at this. I have to find a better spot. I had money. You had to hide 10,000 gold pieces. It's all over everywhere. Yeah.
00:19:20
Speaker
Always money in the air. You don't need to find a stud to hang a picture in the ship because it's all just gold behind the wall. You use magnets. Yeah, that's not magnetic. I know. I know. I understood the joke. And so I laughed and I laughed too. I laughed before I corrected you. You didn't even get a chance to correct me. I knew I was wrong. Are you going to go shopping with Charlie Booyah? Are you going to stay on the ship? Oh, you're more than welcome to come, Booyah.
00:19:49
Speaker
Booyah, come Charlie. I could use the help carrying the bags. Sure. So Charlie and Booyah take off for the market. Eric's headed off for... I just need to find a civis enclave to drop off my document with a lawyer. Okay.
00:20:12
Speaker
I mean, that would be in the Dragon Mark district. So yeah, super easy. And Dex is headed to... Dex is thirsty. He's going to go to his favorite bar in Sharn. He's going to head to the Black Dog. Get a white whale. I can get a lot more than he bargained for. I'm going to the Black Dog. Hopefully Solana is there. And if not, I'll leave my name and number.
00:20:38
Speaker
Uh, Solana is there sitting at the bar, um, chatting with the barkeep. Um, you swing the door open, the light floods in, everybody.
00:20:50
Speaker
They're all vampires now? Sorry, wrong bar. Everyone's a vampire. The dragons drink dragon blood and they get stronger, the vampires, everything's a vampire. Can you imagine a werewolf looking for the werewolf bar and you walk into the vampire bar? Boy, that'd be a problem. It'd be a real problem for that werewolf. Mostly for the vampires, because presumably it opens the door in daylight. There's that. You've got to assume they've got a two-door system. You'd think so, but... They'd have figured it out by now. Oh, boy.
00:21:19
Speaker
The guys I play with. Yeah, right.

Werewolf Transformation

00:21:22
Speaker
I love it. You had a chance to listen to this podcast before you agreed to be on it and chose not to. Yeah, Solana turns and sees you and it's like, oh, well, welcome back. Thanks.
00:21:40
Speaker
So here's the, uh, we're just down in, uh, Zendrick and, uh, found out that our opponents for the future, not only are they stronger, uh, than we anticipated. But, um, some of the advantages we thought we might have against them, we no longer have. I need to get stronger fast.
00:22:05
Speaker
I don't know if you think I'm ready for the next step, but I need to... What's it gonna take to prove to you I'm ready for the next step? Because I need to get there and we're not here long.
00:22:21
Speaker
character sheet says I'm ready. The amount of experience that I've gained. My character sheet says I've done it. So she kind of looks at you and kind of gives you once up and down assesses you and says let's go into my office. And so once you're back there you can
00:22:51
Speaker
Take a seat. She says, well, this is normally there's a ceremony and called a graduation, for lack of a better term. But I get the sense that you are not interested in the pomp and circumstance of it all. You seem like somebody that likes to be involved in a spectacle, but what you're telling me is that your timetable won't allow for it.
00:23:20
Speaker
No, it won't. And honestly, I don't care much about spectacle. All of this stuff is, believe it or not, utilitarian. I'll have to take your word for that. Very well. I mean, it's Dragonhide armor. She has to understand that's helpful. I guess the design choice of it all. The boots not well. I have not come across many recently dead dragons in my career.
00:23:48
Speaker
Hope to come across a few more and therefore was unable to choose the garishness of said armor. Okay. The goggles were personal choice. There also. Well, we should.
00:24:13
Speaker
essentially let me and she stands up and pokes her head out the door and you can't quite hear her but you call for somebody or you hear her call for somebody and shut the door. We'll need to see about the timing of it all that the ceremony does need to take place underneath the full moon but fortunately everyone has quite a few of those. One of them's always.
00:24:39
Speaker
Dex goes, yeah, and kind of tugs at his collar because he did maul his friend once. Once. Just once. That was one time. Let it go. The only thing being that we have in the basement some runic circles that you will need to stay the night in under the shine of a full moon. So you'll have to stay the night.
00:25:10
Speaker
I don't think that should be a problem. Hold on a second.
00:25:23
Speaker
I just leave the channel open to everybody. It's Jason might be on the boat still to hear it, but I just say, uh, Hey fellas, there's no thing I got to do is going to take, uh, it's going to be an overnight thing. So we're going to stick here a little longer than we thought. Uh, Booyah, you mind when you get back to the boat? I assume they took it off before I did. I kind of made sure that anyway, I said, Booyah, when you get back to the boat, we make sure to pay the, uh, dock master remainder of the fee first day and overnight.
00:25:52
Speaker
Oh boy, I got why you need stay all night. That's how long this thing's going to take. What's the thing? I'm learning more about combat. Who teaches combat? Strangely put for you, but all right.
00:26:16
Speaker
All right. Listen, Barrick, I don't know how to say this. I know you're still good at what you do, but I need to get better at it. So I've been doing some things to become more, uh, have more efficacy on the battlefield as opposed to just being the first one. Yes. Boo. Yeah. It was a bad word. Okay. Sorry.
00:26:45
Speaker
So, uh, you'll be back on the boat in the morning. No, I spelled a bad word. Yeah, I'll be back in the morning. Okay. Great. All right. Okay. See you tomorrow. Click. Um, okay. Dad said it was fine. I can stay the night and we haven't stove top stuffing. Um,
00:27:09
Speaker
She stands up and says, well, follow me. And she leads you back in the main area of the bar, through another door that there are stairs leading down to the basement. And you see somebody down there beginning to haphazardly set some stuff up. And he's in the middle of lighting a couple of candles and turns and sees you. I was like, I'm not ready. I told you just to get the circle ready. We don't need the ambiance.
00:27:38
Speaker
I like the ambiance. Well, don't let me detract from your fun. I'm just going to lay down in this circle and become a half a creature now. No, he's a hopeful initiate. He's trying to prove himself. So in his head, Dex thinks, oh, it's been proven.
00:28:00
Speaker
Somebody else, you hear footfalls coming downstairs.

Arrival in Fairhaven

00:28:04
Speaker
The barkeep steps down off the final stairs and looks at Solana and says, Barakas. And she's like,
00:28:14
Speaker
So we do have a full moon tonight. It is Barakas, the lantern. Basically, when it comes to these ceremonies, the reason there's a lot more preparation and forethought into the ceremony. The moon that you sleep under dictates the lycanthrope you've become. So if it has to be tonight, you're going to be a wolf.
00:28:43
Speaker
Dex like in his head while she was like, you have no choice, you're going. And he's always just like, please not rat, please not rat, please not rat, please not rat. I can handle wolf. Okay. Because it has been established, doing it this way doesn't affect alignment, like getting unwillfully. So yes, so Dex is fine.
00:29:03
Speaker
just anything that gives them some claws and some teeth and some extra fighting stuff. So yeah. So all right. All right. Wolf. Because here's the thing. Dex knows what he's going to do. Dex is going to be in hybrid form and shape shift to look like he always looks because that's what Dex did last time and it worked out real well at that one time. Yeah. Except for the claws. You got to keep the claws out if you want to use them as a weapon.
00:29:29
Speaker
I can, I can, if I see us going someplace, I can take six seconds and let them out. Yeah. Um, okay. Um, well, do we have the, uh, the libations and the barkeep also hands over a bottle? Thank you. Um, everybody out.
00:29:50
Speaker
Next starts to walk after you. Everybody else leaves and she explains. Now we can begin the ceremony now, but obviously it is late afternoon, so there's some time before the moon rises. But if you were to go to sleep now, you would just sleep through the night, yada, yada, yada.
00:30:12
Speaker
If you have anything else you would like to do before you become. A full member of the order. Go do it now. I can't think of anything that Dex needs to do right now. So. He may go up and finish his drink. And then yeah, he's ready to go.
00:30:41
Speaker
Okay. Um, so, um, well lay in the circle and there's a small like cot. So I do ask her ask, I say, uh, do I need to be like a natural form for this? Did you tell her you're a changeling? She knows I'm a changeling. Um, it's, it's not necessary, but if you desire to be.
00:31:10
Speaker
I don't. Okay. You like having a nose? Yeah. I mean, even on Sarlona, I didn't look like a changeling when a lot of people did. Dex never did. Yeah.
00:31:30
Speaker
Okay, so Dex lays down and she extends, she gets a fancy goblet with like images of wolves and bears and eagles and lions and rats and all kinds of animals all over it. And she pours this very thick viscous liquid into it. And she holds it up over her head and begin, are you just kind of like,
00:32:00
Speaker
Yeah, I'm just watching, like comfortable with the increasingly cultish feel of the situation. If this is for show and not for necessity, just please give

Lighthearted Moments

00:32:10
Speaker
me the cup. I mean, I mean, something you do note is that you you've been around enough runic circles to recognize this one's inert right now. Sure. Right now.
00:32:20
Speaker
Yes. Presumably this magic ceremony requires some magic. I go, Barak or Philip, not Barak, but Philip and his character with the talking fire god is like, does this feel cultier for you, Jeff? Strange liquids in jewel chalices never bode well in movies. I said nothing about jewels, thank you. Okay, fair enough.
00:32:48
Speaker
She sends the cup overhead and begins speaking, saying, Barakas, brightest moon in Eberron, lantern for the hunters and the predators that stalk their prey at night. Sister moon of Therador, shine bright tonight over your newest brother.
00:33:15
Speaker
let him be gifted with the sight to see where the shadows are darkest and the gifts to seek those that would do him and his allies harm in the darkest of nights. And then you hear some splashing as she's like pouring the liquid into the runes and a pale gray light begins emitting out of the runic circle around you. And then she looks at you and says, open your mouth.
00:33:45
Speaker
And she just pours some of the liquid. I chew it back. It's very cough syrupy kind of consistency. And taste, just that sickly sweet taste. Could be worse. Could be like acrid, bitter. And then you are unconscious.
00:34:16
Speaker
Heck yeah. Good night's sleep. Does this count as a long rest? Yes. The longest rest. You're about to get like 16 hours of sleep. Not going to be back in the morning.
00:34:28
Speaker
That was early afternoons. It was like mid-afternoons. I assumed they had to start under the moon. No, that's what she was explaining. Like, you're going to sleep through the entire night under the full moon. I can knock you out now if you want. And Dex is like, yeah, sure. I don't have anything to do. And 16 hours of sleep sounds boss. OK, so like before, as an action, you can change your form into hybrid or beast mode.
00:34:57
Speaker
I'm just here so I don't get fined. While you are in hybrid form or beast form, you do have access to bite attack. Both of these can act as finesse weapons so they can ping off of your dexterity.
00:35:15
Speaker
byte is your proficiency bonus it's non-magical so you don't get any of the so it's just your proficiency plus your dex modifier and then the hit is 1d8 plus dex modifier and you also have clause which exact same everything except on a hit it's 2d4
00:35:39
Speaker
and while you are in um oh so my real claws do less damage than my claw gloves uh but while you're in hybrid or beast form you can multi attack by performing the bite and claw action with your attack action but that's the only multi attack option is bite and claw yeah bite and claw and i can do that with every just the attack action yes so like the bonus action even if i choose to attack it's just one yeah exactly
00:36:05
Speaker
See, I'm confused by this and I'm like, no, I'll probably play a wizard next time. It'll be easy. And then also the stuff that I sent you before, when you're in beast form, you have a plus 10 feet to your speed and you have access to pack tactics. So if you are attacking somebody that is within five feet of one of your allies that is not incapacitated, you gain advantage on the attack.
00:36:30
Speaker
And you can do like, because you're a sloshbuckler, it doesn't matter, but you can use your sneak attack with your realistic attacks. So just that could have all been flavor. You said the thing about seeing in the dark and doodly doo. It's all flavor.
00:36:45
Speaker
Well, if you get more levels in this, you'll unlock more stuff. But fair enough, which I won't because I just don't imagine us having four more levels worth of story. I think that's eight is the next. That varies from class to class, but fair.
00:37:02
Speaker
I think it would be a feeder and ability scoring. Yeah, seventh is when you get the next fighter, the special fighter thing. Any who's what's what. OK, so you're asleep. Booyah, you are in the market with Charlie buying food goods. And anytime Booyah, if he ever sees Charlie put cheese in his basket, Booyah is going to sneak it out and put it back.
00:37:32
Speaker
Well, see, here's the thing, because Charlie, this is not Charlie's first rodeo in Sharn. So Charlie literally begins walking up to a vendor and like the vendor has a big burlap sack ready for Charlie and Charlie just, so I mean, he has like standing orders of like, wow. It's already ready to roll. Charlie is so dang efficient. If Booyad cost Dex his cheese.
00:37:58
Speaker
So Charlie does show you the invoices to see everything that you all are getting and asks, since you're here

Mission Strategy in Fairhaven

00:38:09
Speaker
with me, I've always just operated under purely assumptions and nutritional value for what I buy you all. Is there anything that you want that's not on these lists, Booyah? Anything that might remind you of home?
00:38:24
Speaker
Booyah usually like what food we eat most time, don't like cheese, cheese, nasty. But I don't know they got they got fish, you get fish? Yes, we have the finest catch from the hilt. Okay, that sounds good. Booyah, Booyah good. Okay, very well. They don't have certain bugs or anything here, just all type other stuff. So it's okay. Booyah good.
00:38:52
Speaker
One thing that you do see, not on the invoice, but as you're walking towards the wine merchant, so Charlie can get some more casks of wine delivered to the ship. You do see somebody selling snails, which is something that he would have eaten. Oh. He tugs on Charlie's pants like, hey, Booyah, find something Booyah love. We get these for Booyah. Snail good. To eat? Yeah, you cook snails, you cook butter. Or a pet.
00:39:25
Speaker
um i've never eaten snails you get mushroom too we we have mushrooms yes okay booyah make you snail butter mushroom cup you like i
00:39:41
Speaker
A snail butter mushroom cup? See, in my head, that's a parfait. A mushroom cupcake. It's a layer of snails, a layer of solid butter, and a layer of raw ass mushrooms. With a mushroom cap on top to make it look like a cupcake. It's booyah. This explains a lot. It's psilocybin mushrooms. Just with butter and snails.
00:40:09
Speaker
I'm trying. No, you're doing great. I love it. Very well. And Charlie pulls some coin out of his purse and hands it to the merchants. Like, how much do you think we need? Maybe. How many we have on both? Snails? No. Us people type.
00:40:34
Speaker
Well, there's me, Cassian, Jace, the three of you, and Rickard, and Orianna. Take that and plus time 10 for each. So 80 snails. That'd be good, Matt. Do you have 80 snails? Of course I do. And she like grabs this basket of just
00:40:57
Speaker
I don't even know how you buy snails live. I don't know. I have no idea. I never bought snails for cooking. They're dead. I'm sure they're fresh, freshly dead. And Booyah is expecting each one to make sure they're fresh, not a blemish on a snail. Um. Yes, snails are cooked while they are alive. So there you go. She hands you a basket of 80 living snails.
00:41:29
Speaker
And Charlie, she goes to hand it to Charlie since he's clearly carrying everything and he just kind of gestures like, you got that one, Booyah. Now imagine Booyah having to balance it on his head just from a height problem. So walking along balancing a basket of snails on his head. And then Charlie communicates with the wine merchant and orchestrates the delivery of a couple casts of wine. Oh yeah, we need wine too. Wine make for a good snail.
00:41:57
Speaker
The snails drink the wine or? No, we cook in wine and butter and mushroom cap. You trust Booyah, Charlie. Booyah say you like. Oh, I will trust Booyah that I will like it. OK, so cut two. Yeah. And Beric files his document and then also arranges for the delivery of a copy to his grandfather's estate outside the city.
00:42:28
Speaker
That's all Barrick needs to do in town. Okay, so we can go and cut to the next morning. Dex, you're awake. So you wake up covered in sweat and when you wake up and kind of
00:42:48
Speaker
sit up, you realize you have reverted back to your natural form. Like you look and you see some change on hands. And you recall this very vivid dream that you had.
00:43:04
Speaker
like sprinting through the woods. Um, like basically you are a wolf out hunting for the entire night. Um, and you, you managed to get in a fight with some other wolves and you hunt, you got deer ate it. Um, but it was just a very intense, vivid dream that you have now woken up drenched in sweat and your body is sore all over. Um,
00:43:31
Speaker
But other than that, you seem to be in just the same state as you were when you went to sleep. Except for an entirely different state. I look like a changeling. I'm covered in sweat. I'm with you. So, what do you do?
00:43:50
Speaker
Stand up. I look at my arms or hands or whatever I can see is not covered. And I see the changingness of it all. And so I take a moment and rely on if I, uh,
00:44:06
Speaker
And is anyone else in the room? Nope. Okay. I get all my gear, you know, throw my bag over my shoulder, grab my ribbon weave. And I start to walk up the stairs and go back into the, I mean, the stairs lead up into her office or into the bar. Okay. I walk up into the bar.
00:44:26
Speaker
okay um it's already daylight out you can see uh light shining in through the window um barkeep is behind the bar and as soon as the door starts to open he looks up and sees you he's like well we'll come back to the land of the living i was dead you need a drink uh like eight in the morning i know also a fantasy
00:44:51
Speaker
Like I do need a drink, yeah, probably. Most people do. Obviously. And ask for a Bloody Mary. Yes, he makes you a Bloody Mary, he sticks the celery in it. And the bacon. For the breakfast White Whale, you mix oatmeal in and you eat it with a fork. Ew!
00:45:17
Speaker
I don't know why eating with a fork made it just that much more worse. Because you couldn't drink it. I'm saying with a spoon it would have been better, but a fork. Yeah, a fork implies some real, like you can hold on to it. There's no liquid qualities left.
00:45:38
Speaker
So I sit down to have a drink. And I asked the bartender, because I assumed he knew what went on here because he worked here, but setting up the ceremony as he was doing and things like that clearly is a little deeper than Hinchman or whatever. He's more than Herrinfield. Yeah.
00:45:59
Speaker
And so I asked, I'm like, so are you a member? Oh, yeah. Cool. Cool. How long have you been? Are you want, you're not one of these OGs, like Sigur and them, right? No, no, no. Solana is, but I was brought into the fold five years ago. Just didn't have a whole lot left. And
00:46:37
Speaker
What do I need to know as far as membership and expectations and stuff? Like, well, obviously, uh, should I have already asked this? Yes. Probably. Did I? Well, no. Um, no, I, obviously you, you are an outsider. They came in here soliciting for.
00:46:42
Speaker
I was a soldier in the last war.
00:47:02
Speaker
Leadership guidance, what have you, but not necessarily becoming a full part of our cause.
00:47:11
Speaker
yet. I got a thing. That's what I'm trying to get at is the nature in which you came in here and Solana, I had asked why we weren't doing things the way we normally do them. And she explained to me that you're on a timetable. So she's understanding of that and won't call on you until your current predicament is resolved, basically.
00:47:35
Speaker
If we are being openly attacked, we might send a message to you of please help, but your full enlistment and responsibilities will be conveyed once your schedule opens up a bit more. All right. What's your name? My name is Croth.
00:47:59
Speaker
It seems as though perhaps your parents didn't have very long to think about what your name might be. It's a family name. Gross. Is he a wereraven so he can be Croth the Raven? Oh, no. Well, the next question. Please. I don't know how to be a delicate about this question to people like, I guess us, but so what, um, what moon were you turned under?
00:48:24
Speaker
Um, I was turned under a vault, which is the warding moon follow-up question. What does that mean? Um, just, just to do fan service within this room. It means I'm a wet Raven. Hmm. All right. Interesting. Croth the Raven. Dex doesn't tell him it sounds dumb.
00:48:53
Speaker
Cool. Well, um, I don't think I'll be in, in Sean much, uh, much longer. Um, I look around the room.
00:49:07
Speaker
Uh, who else is in here? Nobody. Okay. It's just the two of us. I mean, the door to Solana's, uh, office is closed, but okay. I'm going to try a thing. I mean, not a big thing. I'm just, I'm going to go into hybrid form. Okay. And just for the recollection of myself and the listener, hybrid form means I grow the claws. My face gets a little more angular. I assume being a wolf now.
00:49:31
Speaker
Well, technically speaking, hybrid form is you look like the animal, but you walk up, right? Like it's, it's the full classic werewolf. Okay. That's, that's different than it was when I was a bear. I think that's the way we described it, but I liked it that way too. Okay. Um, so I'm in hybrid form now and I want to do two things. One, I want to know how much of my fur is four feet long.
00:49:56
Speaker
Uh, just the top, just the head. Okay. And then I'm like a main. Yeah. Yeah. It sounds great. And then I'm going to try to, I have a question regarding his hair. Um, do his trousers morph to accommodate a tail? Or is it really uncomfortable? I'm going to say morphs to do I absorb stuff when I go full beast mode, like a polymorph would.
00:50:21
Speaker
Well, but do you want to be a naked upright wolf? No, no, I'm just asking if I if I were to go full beast mode, would I absorb things like obviously naked upright upright wolf? I'm still wearing all of my stuff. Hmm. Hmm. Is that a question for late? Like, yeah, that might not be like I was I was just making like if I go, I mean, I was making a goof. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm asking genuinely now, like suppose I go full bear, do I still get my boots speed bonus?
00:50:46
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Yeah. OK, that's what I'm asking. OK, cool. Anywho, so now I'm a very dapper wolf. This is canon. Werewolves of London playing in anyone else. I say all things, all interpretations of the people's physical interpretation of our characters are canon. But here is this. Dex does. Dex is not a white furred wolf.
00:51:10
Speaker
Not. I highly approve of this decision. Not just a straight up regular old kind of grayish brown wolf. Anyhow, next thing I'm going to do is use my natural changeling abilities to try to morph from this hybrid form into regular looking Lyle. Is that something I can do? The change takes the same amount of time either way. So to go from just straight up Lyle to hybrid form. Yeah. But I'd like to be able to
00:51:40
Speaker
I could do it as a bear, but I know it's a very different construct, this type of lycanthropy. Yeah.
00:51:50
Speaker
I'm gonna say you can get most of the way that you look much more akin to a shifter than a full werewolf. So you're still a little bit scruffy looking. Rather than full on claws, it looks like you just have long sharp fingernails. Your canines are a little bit more predominant. Sabertooth, you look like Sabertooth. Sure, yeah. So that's about as far as you can get. I look like a skinny Sabertooth. A skinny really long haired Sabertooth.
00:52:17
Speaker
Otherwise, that's exactly the same. Yeah. Because we have discussed like Dex, Lyle looks scrawny. Yeah. Yeah. Like that's been, that's been the whole time. Vern didn't so much, but Lyle's always looked kind of scrawny. Yeah. So that's about as far as you can get when in hybrid form. Okay, that's fine. And in beast form, you can change the color of what wolf you are. Cool. Just set in parameters, you know? Yeah. Okay. So, well, how does it feel?
00:52:44
Speaker
Uh, it's a little different than when I didn't ask for it. Uh, which I suppose is better because, you know, when I like asked for it, uh, it means I'm not trying to completely hide it anyway. Uh, I guess this is, this is me now. Uh,
00:53:01
Speaker
Not a lot, but I guess I just wanted to test, you know, you know, here in a safe space between my new, there are two things in me that both like to shift the way they look. And I needed to see how they complimented and accommodated each other. And then I will drop the wolfness of it all together. And yeah, cause I'm not walking down the street, even.
00:53:23
Speaker
I can't remember what Sean's whole deal is with shifters. I know that they're not as bad large part of the population here where you're going, but also a werewolf walking down the street and like an upright wolf walking. Oh, yeah, I would never I would never different. No, I would never be in any sort of undisguised hybrid form in in an urban area. Yeah. Like if we go back to Zendrick, I might just be walking around a two legged wolf, but.
00:53:50
Speaker
But yeah, Sharn is the most tolerant. But yeah, Onder, Thrain, if you were walking around looking like a shifter, it's gonna be a problem. Okay, so you head back to the ship. Yeah, I'm head back. Has Dex's magical signature changed at all? His aura altered. See, that's tough because he's always been innately magical. Yeah, you can say no, I'm just curious.
00:54:21
Speaker
Yeah, I'm going to say no because it's even the same school of magic. That's probably fine. I was just curious if there would be any kind of obvious note. I have to assume if I go hybrid or beast you'll notice, especially if I go full beast. Your silhouette would change. Yeah, exactly. That's what I'm saying.
00:54:34
Speaker
Sure. I was just curious if it was immediately apparent because this magic had been done on it. Yeah. My bet was the truth will out. Sure. No, I'm sure it will. I'm sure it will. It's just a matter of Dex's wisdom and whether Dex is wise enough to not wait until we're in the middle of a fight to start a level one with this new revelation. Gosh, I can't wait to see what Dex will do. I don't know what Dex will do. OK.
00:55:02
Speaker
Everybody ready to depart for on dare. I suppose so. Oh, before. Before we go. Where it calls Orianna over. Yeah. Is. Perhaps kicking a dead horse. I want to wait one more time.
00:55:33
Speaker
what we're going to do now is not only dangerous, but immensely foolish. And if you would like to perhaps get off the ship and wait at my grandfather's estate to see how it pans out, I could easily arrange that. If we get killed,
00:56:04
Speaker
or perhaps more likely arrested for the murder of the brother of the Queen of One Day, or at least someone who looks like him, or might be him, I don't know, it could all be a lie. Don't try to rescue us. Just get out, get Cassian and Charlie out.
00:56:32
Speaker
If I'm killed, I don't know that this will happen, but some things that have been told to me, again, could all be lies, but some things that have been told to me indicate that this could possibly happen, just based on our relationship. If I'm dead, and a dark hooded figure approaches you on the street and offers you a sword, tell him to shove it up his ass.
00:57:01
Speaker
and get as far away as you can if this all goes wrong.
00:57:08
Speaker
feel like Feywild will be a pretty good place. They've got cities. They've got cities they enjoy, stories, drama, swashbuckling, things you're good at. It might be a safe bet. And the people don't dream there. So it's unlikely that the creatures that are threatening to invade will ever attempt an invasion there.
00:57:34
Speaker
So those would be my two recommendations in the event that this all goes pear-shaped. If you're not willing to get off the ship, which I presume you are not. That's correct. All right. Well, had a try. And I very much meant the rest of it. I think it's monstrously good advice.
00:58:05
Speaker
Well, I'll tell you that I'll take it. And if it's advice that I need, you'll be dead and you won't know the difference. My experience in death indicates otherwise, but probably will know the difference. Very well.
00:58:36
Speaker
I feel like it's awkward now. Now? Well, I believe we all have some strange dish planned for dinner. So I've heard he was chasing one of the ingredients down the hallway earlier.
00:59:00
Speaker
Are they fast? You just filled them and they all started crawling away. We are trying to pick up a bunch of snails trying to get away. Basin snails. OK, so, um. All right, everybody, we are headed up to Fairhaven. It's the only airship dock outside of Arcanics in our dare, and I'm assuming we want to go to Fairhaven. Want to isn't right, the right word. But we are bound for Fairhaven.
00:59:31
Speaker
Okay. Click. So, yeah, you all take off. That's a train. Oh, you didn't. I added a steam whistle. I tried to move the picnic table you like so much. It's how we signaled the food was good. Charlie, great job.
01:00:01
Speaker
Okay. Also to remain inconspicuous. Of course. Um, so, uh, after a little while, um, uh, few days, I think is about the appropriate travel time. Um, you all, uh, are in on dare airspace. Um, Jace comes over the intercoms. Um, oh, uh, let's go ahead and what would be a good role for cooking? Hmm.
01:00:31
Speaker
I mean, particularly speaking, it's a be a tool check. Yeah. Chef's tools. Survival. Survival. Yeah, let's go survival. I love it.
01:00:56
Speaker
28. Using all these rolls when they are best used. Look, I got to tell you, I don't know what it is. I didn't expect to be saying this, but these snails are good. Have you tried these Beric? I've had snails before. But have you tried these Beric? Yes. I'm sitting at the table, eating them with you.
01:01:16
Speaker
Well, it's all theater of the mind, Philip Hamel doesn't know that. I envisioned myself standing in the kitchen, picking them off of the service tray. I assume the ship has a galley. Cassian sitting next to you, just shoveling into his mouth. Popcorn snails. Popcorn what? Nothing. That's what we call them, but they're not really snails. It's a,
01:01:45
Speaker
Frog. Chicken. Chicken. Frog. Chicken. Look buddy, it snails. I won't tell you. Cassian opens his mouth and like the last bite that he took just falls out and you end up from the table crying. I love it. I tell you, I make good, Lincoln.
01:02:11
Speaker
Is that what it's called? Link, Link'em? Link'em, snail, you call snail. We are called Link'em. Okay, so you all, early in the morning, pull in to dock at the airship dock above Fairhaven. And Jace, as you all pull in, you see Jace walk out of the homeroom and Charlie
01:02:38
Speaker
walks across deck to approach, and they both begin to walk onto the dock to talk to the dock master. So what are you all doing? Once everybody's gathered on deck, Beric says, I'm just going to say this one time. We're pretty close to the Eldean reaches. The druids there seem to have some ability to planar travel. What do we say? We just go to the Feywild and wait this out.
01:03:09
Speaker
I mean, we made a deal with dragons. I don't think that's an option. I appreciate your duplicitousness. I do, but I don't think I don't, I just don't think that's in the realm of possibility for us. And we're all somehow under the impression of the dragons are going to hold up their end.
01:03:36
Speaker
I don't know that I can say that for certain, but I do know I do have a very good idea of what would happen if we don't hold up hours. All right.
01:03:58
Speaker
OK, so once you all finish that discussion, Jace and Charlie walk back onto the ship and Charlie heads over to you all. Both we went ahead and prepaid for four days of docking here. If it takes longer, just.
01:04:17
Speaker
let us know it's cheaper if we can buy in bulk instead of day by day. But I didn't want to overspend if we were going to leave. So gained some lay of the land just from the dark master about things going on.
01:04:33
Speaker
There is a royal banquet happening in two days. That's the big hubbub in the town. There's also a demonstration by the Wizards of Arcanics tomorrow. And there's supposed to be some military demonstration in a few days as well. So lots going on in Fairhaven.
01:05:05
Speaker
Do you require anything from me before you go? Not that I can think of. No, nothing I can think of. Very well. Healthy and happy travels. Not likely. Okay. All right.
01:05:34
Speaker
I think that one thing Dex definitely wants to do. One of the first things he wants to do is find someone in a, you know, a bar or whatever, uh, that he can talk to about local dragon activity. Okay. So let's just say let's, I, I, I get off the ship and I go down the staircase from the docking area to
01:06:04
Speaker
I don't know anything about on dare. I know that it is the, is it the one that's like the most high fantasy of the Ron areas? Okay. It's, it's your most, yeah, iconically fantasy genre. And it's not particularly urban like Sean. It's fair Haven's a big city, but not anything like Sean. Yeah. Right. Right. Right. It's more like a roet kind of idea.
01:06:29
Speaker
I mean, I mean, I mean, as far as like size and layout, not not the river, but just like it's not towers, it's not skyscrapers. It's it's it probably is towers. OK, but like fairy tale towers because they're all built with magical assistance. OK, so it's like. Yeah, population in ninety two thousand. But yeah, it's yeah, there are some tall structures and things like that, but just the construction is very different.
01:06:56
Speaker
You know, if Dex is going to walk down the stairs, he's going to look around this area. I have to assume a lot. There's a lot of commerce right in the immediate area around the docks where people would come in, get things like that. Bars ends. I would like to make a perception or investigation. You tell me to see if one of the signs of one of the bars or ends happens to feature a large black dog. Cause if I'm going to go to a bar, I may as well go to my home team's bar.
01:07:24
Speaker
Sure, sure. Give me a investigation check. We were your home team, but you know.
01:07:30
Speaker
You're my homies. 23. 23. So yeah, you ask a couple people, because I mean, it's not a weird thing to ask like, hey, where's the black dog in? And after asking a couple people, somebody says, oh, I think it's... Oh, we burned that down to the ground. We found out that it was a nasty, nasty lycanthrope. Do you know what they do there?
01:07:57
Speaker
Yeah, it's right next to my favorite in the dire horn. But yeah, if you just look for that. Poor horn never stood a chance. Go around that corner and you should see it right next to the dire horn. Why are we going to the Black Dog Inn?
01:08:18
Speaker
Oh, uh, well, we're going to have that talk. Uh, look, it's a place I've been before. And so I understand it. I got, I want to ask some locals about some things figured I might as well go to a place I've been before. Right. You want to come? I have nowhere else to go. All right. Well, you do know there's the dire horn right next to it that you could, um,
01:08:41
Speaker
All right. You guys wait for me in the. Oh, this was the center of that. Not exactly military conflict of which I have spoken regarding people of that sort of ability. Well, no, I mean, I didn't know it was the center of it, but I assumed it was involved in it. Under is the very worst part of that. All right. Well.
01:09:07
Speaker
and yet the black dog in stands. I appreciate it.
01:09:22
Speaker
I start walking to the black dog end. Okay. Should also be noted by you that this month includes quite recently passed, uh, victory day, which is a holiday in the silver flame celebrates the end of that conflict. Well, we're all glad it's over. Yeah. And I keep walking. Uh, Booyah, give me a perception check real quick.
01:09:49
Speaker
That is the third 19 in a row. He's the one who picked the month. 28. 28. So as they're talking and you're listening, Booyah, and you're walking down the street, you notice more so than anywhere you've been before. People are like, you all are having an easy time walking down the street because it's like the sea is parting around you all. And people are paying a lot of attention to you.
01:10:16
Speaker
me specifically, not to the group, but to me. As is Dex picking up on Warforged Prejudice
01:10:32
Speaker
I mean just different prejudice. Like unusualness would probably be the main thing. Okay. For all they know, I'm a halfling. Yeah. That is not where they're going first by any chance. For all they know, correct. But that's not what they're going to assume that you are. Well, I'm a human. I appear as human with ridiculous hair, but okay. No, they are paying attention to that one. Well, I'll vouch for these. Because even half health isn't going to be that low.
01:11:00
Speaker
But that half-elf? I'm wearing a mask. That's true. And I'm in my armor, so. Yeah, your armor that looks like a child warforged soldier. With the halo.
01:11:12
Speaker
That helps. Okay, so you all don't mind us passing through after walking down about a block or so. You see a very large sign that has a war horn on it and somebody that is like super tiny holding this gigantic war horn blowing into it and just pass it. You see a much smaller sign with the image of a black dog.
01:11:41
