The Power of Lists for Organization

What is up, everybody? And welcome to Shaping Your Powder with Nick Torres. In this episode, I'm going to be talking about the power of lists and why it's important to kind of make lists to help you out. In the recent interview I did with Dita Murt, she said that she makes lists and lists are something that really help her throughout the day and just helps her keep everything organized.

And I'm gonna tell you why that is kind of important. Why it is very important for you to not only discover your voice, but to also keep things in track, keep things on track so that you aren't so flustered, aren't so overwhelmed all the time. Making a list can be very, very, very, very beneficial, especially if you are very scatterbrained. A lot of us tend to be kind of scatterbrained where we are kind of like
00:01:33
Speaker
a bird or a dog and we are we see one thing with oh I'm gonna go try that and then we see another thing oh I'm gonna try that but if we keep a list of things that we're trying to do it keeps our mind and our thoughts very very organized because sometimes we're very scatterbrained like I said we're
00:01:54
Speaker
We have short attention spans, which is not a bad thing, but sometimes it can be very difficult to get things done if we're not trying to accomplish things from our list.

Types of Lists for Potters

00:02:06
Speaker
So, how do you write a list? Well, I think there are two different ways to write a list.
00:02:12
Speaker
The first list is what needs to be completed in a certain amount of time. I hear a lot of potters, they are always, they're always trying to meet a deadline by a certain amount of time. So they write out a list, it's good to write out a list of what things need to be done first, what things need to be done first. Like for example, if you have a show at the end of the month, you're trying to sell your pottery at the end of the month,
00:02:42
Speaker
you need things to get done in a certain order. So the list can consist of make the pottery, trim it, and then glaze and take pictures and then sell. That's a very simple list, five things that you only need to do. And you just basically check off each one until you have everything made.
00:03:08
Speaker
The second list that I think everyone should do, whether you are Scatterbrain or whatever, everyone should do this list, is making a list of things that you really, really like.

Refining Your Artistic Voice with Lists

00:03:21
Speaker
It could be anything, a list of anything that you really like.
00:03:26
Speaker
especially for pottery, you have one for pottery and then one for just things that you like just in the world in general, what your eye is catching you to. The reason why I think you should do this is because oftentimes we skip this step of what we like, what is our attention drawn to, what is something that we like. And the more we can research that first and just hone in on that for like just a few moments,
00:03:54
Speaker
The more our voice is going to pop out further, it's going to show up a lot better because we're taking that time to sit down and really write down what we like. The list can change, but it's good to write down what we like now. So that way we can go further on those things that we like.
