Introduction of Geek Pantheon podcast and hosts

00:00:10
Speaker
D20 radio, your game is roll.
00:00:27
Speaker
Hello and welcome to the Geek Pantheon podcast, your place for all your geeky goodness, favorite fandoms and nerdy narcissisms. I am Eric. And I am special guest who has never previously been invited to participate in this podcast, Phillip.
00:00:39
Speaker
And welcome to a very special episode of the Geek Pantheon. It's going to be really short and we're not going to talk about anything particularly geeky. We're mostly going to talk about a I almost said an exciting opportunity, but that makes it sound like all the fanfare side.

Announcement of Patreon launch

00:00:56
Speaker
We are launching a Patreon. No.
00:01:02
Speaker
So we just wanted to give you all kind of the breakdown of the different tiers of giving that you can participate in by giving to the Geek Pantheon family of podcasts. So we get to keep doing what we love doing and what you presumably enjoy listening to us do. So, yeah, first things first, we we genuinely want to tell you honestly why we're starting the Patreon.
00:01:30
Speaker
Um, and the, the biggest reason that I can give is it, it costs money to keep the lights on.

Explanation of increased costs

00:01:37
Speaker
Basically does, um, to, to have server space for our episodes to go up, uh, to have the geek Pantheon website. Um, all these things require some form of money.
00:01:50
Speaker
And for the first couple of years of doing this, we've just been footing the bill, but we're growing and expanding enough now to where we need to get some better options. We need to step things up in terms of quality and server space and things like that. And that means increasing costs. So we are turning to our wonderful listeners to meet us in the middle, to fill that gap. And also,
00:02:20
Speaker
the reason that we are doing this is because we want to make it better. We want to do more and we want to have the quality of everything rise up. We are still using the same microphones that we used from episode one of the Geek Pantheon podcast when we were doing it out of Trevor's apartment around his very tiny dining room table. We're using the same mixer. We're using the same mic cords like nothing has been updated and we would love to step things up in terms of quality.
00:02:50
Speaker
I mean, yeah, there's just, there's a, listen, we're never going to make a profit off of this. That's not what this is about. But this will, everything, what we earn through Patreon, what you contribute through Patreon will be used to, we put right back into the various geek Pantheon shows. We'll use it to improve quality. We'll use it to improve volume eventually, if we can.

Importance of Eric in production team

00:03:14
Speaker
And all of that costs money it costs money in terms of the equipment We need it costs money in terms of the fact that Eric is our one and only Person who knows how to do any of the audio stuff? Seriously if Eric is I mean you guys may have noticed Eric was sick for a week a little while back and nothing happened Because me and Jeff and Randy have no idea what Eric does to make the episodes so nice and pretty I assume that he's a wizard
00:03:44
Speaker
So there's just some basic costs involved in this and that's what this will be for.
00:03:53
Speaker
Yeah, it's genuinely reinvestment into doing something that we all really love doing. And like Phillip said, we want to increase the volume. We have purely grown out of word of mouth, which is incredible to me that we have grown as much as we have via just people talking to each other. It's true. It's weird.
00:04:17
Speaker
We want more people to be a part of this community.

Community growth and engagement goals

00:04:19
Speaker
We want more people to be part of the Pantheon. I would love to be able to get the actual Geek Pantheon podcast that this is releasing on going and thriving again. And so that's why we're doing this. That's why we're launching a Patreon and very humbly coming to you saying help us make this better.
00:04:39
Speaker
you all are just as much of a part of this as we are and we want to celebrate that fact. So we know that you all have just been putting up with us talking about the why we're doing this and are just waiting for us to tell you the goodies that you get to get if you decide to become one of our patrons. So we have one, two, three, four, five,
00:05:05
Speaker
Please don't edit out you counting just now. We have eight different tiers of giving to start out. That is subject to change. It might grow. It might lessen. You never know. But we're going to break down all of them and give some insight into why we're doing this and why we think that you would enjoy these things.

Patreon tiers overview

00:05:30
Speaker
And because Eric's dealing with the only one with the information on his screen, I'm just going to heckle him while he does it.
00:05:34
Speaker
Yes, thank you. And a lot of these things have been heard from you all. We put out the call in the Facebook group and we listened and we hope that you feel like your voices have been heard and that we are giving you stuff that you genuinely want. If you listen to the knowledge check, you know me and Eric are big fans of stealing.
00:05:55
Speaker
Yes. So thank you. So at one dollar per month, less than a cup of coffee a day or a sonic Dr. Pepper, you can keep this podcast going. You can pick it up off the street. So yeah, one dollar a month is happily titled exclusive content. So this this is the basic tier where you just get cool stuff made by us.
00:06:24
Speaker
exclusively to you. These things, it's a pretty nebulous tier to be honest. The concrete things that we have come up with.
00:06:33
Speaker
exclusive post-show discussions that will happen on the Patreon. You will get to ask us questions, hear from us first. Once episodes go up, we will be there to talk to you and talk through things that have happened. This includes Ever Unrenewed, The Knowledge Check, and The Geek Pantheon, and who knows, other shows that we may launch one day. And what's going on in your life? Personal stuff. Yeah. How are you doing?
00:07:02
Speaker
And so, yeah, you get to talk to us directly through the Patreon. It's obviously not in real time. We'll get to that. But but it is a platform for you to talk to us outside of Facebook, where anybody can interject themselves. We're also going to be doing bonus backer only episodes.
00:07:21
Speaker
These might be short little 15 minute knowledge check episodes where Phillip and I just dive into a topic that maybe doesn't warrant a full discussion, but we think you all would really enjoy. Um, it may be, uh, background episodes from Eberron renewed Dex's time with the thieves Guild barracks training in the church of the silver flame, things like that, that don't affect the larger narrative, but
00:07:44
Speaker
would be interesting to listen to. And we might do some one-off separate D&D games. Or other systems. Yeah. That have nothing to do with Eberron Renewed, but you'll get to listen to it. And also,
00:07:59
Speaker
real-time discussion, you will get access to the Geek Pantheon Discord channel with the creators from the channel. Probably not Randy, because he's... I don't know if he knows what Discord is. But... I barely know what Discord is, so...
00:08:20
Speaker
Jeff and I will be on there on a regular basis, Phillip, when he has the opportunity and inclination. But but yeah, you will get to talk with at least me and Jeff in real time. And we'll just get to have fun. It doesn't have to be about the show. It can be about your favorite kind of taco. I don't have strong opinions on tacos. I really like fish tacos. But that's just because they're they're different. No.
00:08:46
Speaker
Like I eat normal tacos all the time and I really enjoy them. So when I have a fish taco, it's like, Oh, this is a fish taco. Um, anyway, all, all of that exciting content you just heard will be on the geek on discord channel. Um, next up at $3 a month is the living document club as it is titled right now. Phillip, why don't you tell the people that they get in the living document club?
00:09:13
Speaker
This is going to involve recipes for Eric's favorite types of tacos. Yes. In the Living Document Club, we'll be creating, Eric has talked a lot about his beloved concept of the DM spell book.
00:09:31
Speaker
We'll be creating one and Eric and I at least we may occasionally get some guest contributors on it. But Eric and I will at least contribute to it on a regular basis. We're not putting a schedule on it just because we don't know how all this is going to go quite yet. I think I think we could easily guarantee one post from each of us a week barring illness or something like that. Yeah.
00:09:53
Speaker
But we'll update it regularly and this will contain NPCs we've created, encounters that we've designed and run, monsters, magic items, things that we or occasionally just curated as well as created by us because occasionally things that we have found elsewhere
00:10:15
Speaker
um that we would like to share with you with of course all due credit given to those who actually created them yes and of course we would only share things that were put out publicly and open not we're not going to share you the pdfs of books that we've bought sorry yeah you'll get access that comes at the pirates tier later on i think that's got to be against the terms of
00:10:44
Speaker
Anyway, this will give you access to a DM spell book created and curated by Eric and myself and occasionally by whoever we can talk into contributing to it. Yes. And most importantly, all previous rewards included, if you are part of the Living Document Club, you get access to all the exclusive content and the Geek Pantheon Discord channel and all of that for just three dollars a month. Still less
00:11:14
Speaker
than a very large cup of coffee. Or anything at Starbucks. Yes. Next up, $5 per month, still less than most of Starbucks menu, is the Q&A tier. So we've talked about discussions and things like that happening on the Discord channel. But if things go well with the Patreon,
00:11:39
Speaker
That's going to be a busy channel. Questions are going to be flying by. Discussion is going to happen quickly. If only there was a higher tier with fewer people that you could talk in a more controlled environment with the people from these shows. Well, good news.
00:11:56
Speaker
At this tier, if you have a question that you absolutely need an answer for, what class should I make my awesome character concept? What should the villain of my campaign do when the party catches up with them? Well, at this tier, you get to fire away. Each month, you can fire a question to us and we'll give you a prompt and thorough answer. This isn't going to be one sentence, like we're going to put time and effort into thinking about this.
00:12:19
Speaker
before we give you an answer. And so it may not be in real time. It may be, if you're talking about what should the motivations of my villain be for my campaign, here's everything that's happened. Philip and I may take a week or so to process that and really give you a good answer.
00:12:35
Speaker
If you tell us, by the way, my game is in three days, we obviously won't wait a week, but we'll try. Yes. So yeah, we'll, we'll create something, maybe a separate discord channel or a private Facebook group, something where you all can talk to us in a more controlled environment.
00:12:53
Speaker
And once a month, we will answer a question from you and maybe more than once a month, just depends on the volume. And also, we may even feature your question on an episode of the Knowledge Check. We might discuss it for all the listeners if we think it's something that reaches beyond just your game.
00:13:10
Speaker
And most importantly, all previous rewards are included. So you get the living document club and all the exclusive content. Now, Philip at $10 a month, which is still less than most menu items at Starbucks. No, not really. So $10 per month. You get to be an official sponsor of the show.
00:13:35
Speaker
I would like everyone to know that I fought really hard to get you a more exaggerated title. We might give you a more exaggerated title. If you want to be executive vice president in charge of hamster wrangling, then sure. Grand Moff Obergruppenführer.
00:13:54
Speaker
Yes, for the purposes of this tier and reading your names off on the shows, we're probably going to stick with show sponsor or producer or executive producer maybe if you don't require a huge fee increase. You know what? I'll pay you double what we're paying you right now. How about that? So you are an official sponsor of the show, which means your name gets listed as the reason we get to make all this awesome content for you.
00:14:18
Speaker
On the shows, we will give a shout out to our show sponsors on the website. Names will be listed, names will be read. You'll get a special sponsor-only group where you get to talk directly to the host, make show topic suggestions, and have all your questions answered on the air. So if you want to guarantee that, man, you have this burning question and you think it can help a lot of people to get us to answer it,
00:14:42
Speaker
then this is the tier for you. This would also include questions for Eberron Reviewed episodes as well as the Knowledge Check. I know we've had some people who talked about wanting to be able to submit questions for our discussion of the previous arc, and this is the tier for that. Yes. If you are a show sponsor, any questions that you ask, they will be read and answered on the show with us sitting around the table. Within reason.
00:15:11
Speaker
Yes. And Philip, I know you have a burning question. Does this tier include the exclusive content, the living document club, the Q&A tier? The answer is yes. You get everything. Notice how Eric preempted my snarky response. You get everything on the Patreon at this level, including actual tangible input into the show when it's recorded.
00:15:41
Speaker
$15 per month. Now we're starting to get up into, you know, this is more than Netflix. So what could be worth more than Netflix? I don't know if we are. I don't think we are either. So let's just say abstractly, would personal consultants with decades of RPG experience between them for your campaign
00:16:11
Speaker
be worth that? To some people, yes. To some people, the answer would be no. And for those people, this tier isn't for them. At $15 a month, you get me and Philip and potentially Jeff and Randy as the personal consultants for your campaign on all matters regarding tacos. Yes, yes. So barbecue, I'm big on barbecue too.
00:16:40
Speaker
So once again, this tier is kind of, it's dictated by volume. So in the tier description, it says once per month, if we have just a handful of people initially in this tier, you might be able to get in touch with us more than that. But guaranteed once per month, you get to send the hosts a request for consultation on creating a character.
00:17:03
Speaker
writing a campaign, designing an encounter, crafting the perfect villain, or any other number of topics for your game. And this would be good for players. Like I said, we will help you create your character. We will help you kind of come up with interesting arc resolutions if your character has been on a journey. If he's hit rock bottom and you're trying to figure out where do I take this character from here? Or is it time to maybe abandon this character and go off in a different direction? We will
00:17:31
Speaker
We'll answer those questions for you. But unlike the previous tiers, this is not just a question and answer session. This is a conversation between you and the host to come up with a solution. We'll shoot back some possible solutions you can fire back with. Well, here's some things that I like, here's some things I don't like, and we can go back and forth. And also, yeah, you know what? $15 a month for just this, it's kind of a ridiculous ask.
00:18:00
Speaker
So you also get the exclusive content, the living document club, the Q and a tier, and you get to be a show sponsor. So, um, so if you break it down, I mean, $1, $3, $5, $10, that's $19 worth of content right there before you even get the consultation. We're giving it away. Bosses out and we've gone crazy. The next tier up.
00:18:27
Speaker
$20 a month next tier is how people could see you doing this like the expressions and gestures that go along with this sales pitch you're making you're just Killing me The next tier up is special hangout with the hosts
00:18:45
Speaker
So you get to join a monthly Google Hangout session or Skype session. We'll figure out the platform at a different time once we actually have some people taking this tier. You get to hang out with some of the hosts, not all the hosts every time because schedules are schedules. It might just be me one week or one month, and I'm really sorry about that. It might be just Jeff one month, which would probably be more fun.
00:19:14
Speaker
it might just be Randy by himself and oh god I want to see the transcripts of that Google Hangout session. And hopefully ideally it'll be a couple of us, maybe occasionally all of us on a Google Hangout session. And I mean this is true real time back and forth. You get to ask us questions about the show, discuss previous episodes,
00:19:37
Speaker
Whatever else comes up, tacos, pizza. I'm really hungry. So that's why I'm talking about food a lot. It's up to you. Like we are there to hang out with you and have a genuine hangout session. Topics will go where they go and and you get everything else.
00:19:59
Speaker
the exclusive content, the Living Document Club, Q&A tier, show sponsor, and personal consultants. All of it. Um, the next tier up, Philip, would you like to play a game? Um, usually. Okay. Usually you heard it here, folks. Um, so this tier is titled, would you like to play a game? And for $30 a month, you get to play a game with us.
00:20:28
Speaker
Every month, one of the hosts will run a game for all backers at this level. I say that because there can be only six backers at this level. So if you want to play a game with us, you need to jump on that. This might be D&D. It might be Fate. It might be Genesis. It might be Star Wars. It might be something less directly RPG like fiasco.
00:20:56
Speaker
board games would be a little tricky to do. But, you know, well, I mean, there is tabletop simulator on Steam. If everybody involved has that, then sure, we'll play a board game on tabletop simulator.
00:21:12
Speaker
Um, so yeah, $30 a month, six of you will get to play games, a game with us once a month. Um, uh, that one of the hosts will run for you and who knows maybe one month, one of the hosts will decide he really wants to play in a game instead of DMing all the time and we'll jump on and just play with you all while Philip runs the stupid game. Um,
00:21:32
Speaker
And in addition to that, you get all the previous rewards. You get to hang out with us once a month in addition to playing a game with us. We will be your personal consultants. You will be a sponsor of the show. You can ask us questions as much as you want. You can be a part of the Living Document Club and you get all the exclusive content. And I did not look at my notes for any of that. I've just talked about this so much. It's ingrained into my dome. And lastly, the eighth tier.
00:21:59
Speaker
There's no limit on participants. This is the big one. This is the one where we need your shipping address when you sign up for this tier.
00:22:09
Speaker
Um, the tastemaker club. So once per month you will receive some form of media from the host of the show sent directly to you. It might be a cool new game that we think you should check out. It might be a box set of movies that we really dig. Uh, music, uh, just general books, like books. Come on.
00:22:34
Speaker
Books. I said RPG books and so that's what kind of threw me. But yeah, just books, like glorious, glorious books. Anything we think that you should check out and it might be a combination of things. You might get a board game and a book. You might get a movie and a cassette tape. So yeah, this is really for those people that just
00:23:03
Speaker
really dig the shows, want to help us out, and really want to make us ship a bunch of boxes once a month to them. But I mean, really genuinely, if you think it would be really fun to make us work harder and be kind of agitating, then this tier is for you because I don't want to go to the post office with 20 boxes. But I will do it.
00:23:27
Speaker
For you. I was going to say, you're doing it. I'm not. Well, if you're sending out the thing that month, then you would have to go to the post office, Phillip. I'm going to send it to you and make you mail it again.
00:23:38
Speaker
Um, so the taste maker club, uh, because we are going to be sending you like, we might send you a board game one month, which the, anybody that plays board games knows those things aren't cheap. Uh, this one's at $60 a month. So obviously this is top tier big time. There will probably never be a tier higher than this. Um, yeah, that's the taste maker club, $60 per month. We will once a month, this isn't a one and done thing. Like when you sign up, we send you one thing and then never again, like every month.
00:24:05
Speaker
You get stuff from us. And so yeah, we hope all of that sounds cool to you guys. Obviously, I mean, different tiers are gonna sound great to different people.

Feedback invitation and community assurance

00:24:20
Speaker
And so let us know what you think. Go over to the Facebook group. Speak your mind. Let us know what you think of these tiers. Did we miss anything? Is there something that you would like to be on there?
00:24:30
Speaker
that isn't currently. Is there something on there that you just don't think is that interesting? Let us know.
00:24:52
Speaker
especially me, Jeff, and Philip, and sometimes Randy, we've been fairly active on the Facebook group. We're on there, we're talking to you, we're giving you thumbs up, liking things. That's not gonna change. We aren't setting up a paywall that we will live behind. We're still gonna be on Facebook. We're still gonna talk to you through there. But hopefully as the volume grows for our community,
00:25:17
Speaker
The noise is going to get a lot louder. And so the patron is way to guarantee that your voice is always heard because we do want to hear everybody. But that becomes difficult. And so we don't want you to think that we are creating paywalls for anything that we currently do. We are not. Eberron reduced isn't going behind a paywall. Eberron reviewed isn't going behind a paywall.
00:25:38
Speaker
I've I've been a part of communities where that has happened and I know how much it sucks and I would never do that to you guys so Except for the knowledge check that's gonna be patreon Also this video this video will be our first exclusive patreon item
00:25:57
Speaker
What a dumb idea. So, yeah, that that's everything. Like I said, if you have any questions or comments, please direct them to Philip, whose phone number is. No, if you have any questions or comments, please head over to Facebook. Let us know. And yeah, Philip, do you have any thoughts? I know I've done a lot of the talking throughout this. I demand that you cut my area code out of this.
00:26:30
Speaker
We've said that, I think. We've said Texas at least. We've said Texas, but Texas is the size of France. Well, thank you all so much for listening. We hope that the Patreon sounds as exciting to you as it does to us because we are excited to do more and give more to you all. So yeah, anything else, Philip?
00:26:52
Speaker
Uh, no, I think we've, we've said it all again, just to reiterate, this is not, no one's paying for anything that we currently do. Yeah. That's all staying, staying where it is. Um, this is just ways for us to make everything better and we'll do our best to, uh, provide fair rewards for those who help us make everything better. Yeah, absolutely.
00:27:19
Speaker
Alright, well, thank you all so much for listening. Once again, I am Eric, and I'm Philip, and we will see you next time on The Geek Pad, y'all.
