Let's get started. What is up, Shaping Nation? This is Nick Torres here. And on this episode of Shaping Your Pottery, I'm going to be talking about why you need to be stubborn when it comes to finding your voice. That way you can find your voice and you're not listening to other people.
Speaker: So I just had a really, really, really great episode with Doug Peltsman. I learned so much from this episode, but one of the things that really stood out to me was that he says that he's never had a plan B and he contributes that to being stubborn. And he goes on to saying that how he's had plenty of journeys
Speaker: But one of the things that has helped him was being stubborn because he said being stubborn helped him with developing a style, developing, actually making pottery full time, you know, and being stubborn and the things that he wanted to do, not what somebody else wanted to do, but what he wanted to do. And he was stubborn about that. He didn't budge, he didn't move. And he stuck at it. And because he was stubborn, he was able to find his voice and he was able to make a successful career with pottery.
Speaker: And it's the same thing with you guys. You guys need to be stubborn when it comes to finding your voice. You need to be stubborn. Don't listen to anybody else about your pottery. Only listen to yourself. People could give you ideas and they can give you some recommendations, but only you can decide what you want your voice to be. You have to be stubborn about this. Don't go listening to other people
Speaker: If they think that you should be making this that like, you know, maybe they're saying you should be making more functional way or maybe you should be making, you know, things that look like other potters. Don't listen to them. If you don't want to do that, don't do it. Be stubborn. Be a brick wall when it comes to this, because only you can decide your own voice. And the more stubborn you are about this,
Speaker: what you want your voice to actually look like, the more it's actually gonna come to life, the more it's gonna really, what you're really gonna be making what you truly enjoy. You have to be stubborn about this. Don't listen to other people about this. You know, there's a scene from Shrek, the very first Shrek movie. It's towards the end of the movie. And basically, Shrek gets his swamp back, but Donkey also wants half the swamp because he did half the work in getting Princess Fiona.
Speaker: He wanted half the swamp and he didn't really actually want half the swamp. He just wanted his friend to stop being so stubborn. He didn't want his friend to do something stupid. So he was even more stubborn than Shrek.
Speaker: And because he was more stubborn than Shrek, he ended up getting Shrek to move off his ass and go, you know, get his true love, his true love first kissed, right? And it's the same thing with our pottery. We have to be stubborn in what we want. We have to be stubborn in order to make moves and stubborn to find our voice. Remember, be stubborn about your pottery. Don't listen to other people about what your voice is because that's their voice, not yours. Be stubborn about this.
Speaker: And if you can be stubborn, that's where you are truly going to start finding your voice. Thanks for listening to this episode of Shaping Your Pottery.
