Introduction to Bloom Wild Girls Podcast

00:00:01
Speaker
Hello, welcome to the Bloom Wild Girls podcast, podcast for tween and teen girls made by tween and teen girls to discuss how to live biblically in our current seasons of life.
00:00:13
Speaker
So grab your mom, a friend, or a snack and join us for a fun and encouraging conversation. So today is our very first episode ever of Bloom Wild Girls.
00:00:26
Speaker
And my name is Jenny and I am here with my oldest daughter, Addie. Addie, want to say hello? Hi. And how old are you, Addie? 13. Addie is 13, so just entering teen category.

Inspiration Behind the Podcast

00:00:44
Speaker
there are actually five girls in our family. i have five daughters, so Addie is the oldest of all of them. And we decided to start this podcast for a number of reasons. And so As we get started, we're going to tell you a little bit about why we decided to start it. But first, we're going to tell you about the name.
00:01:08
Speaker
Bloom Wild Girls and why we have called it Bloom Wild Girls. I'm actually going to read a scripture and Addy's going to kind of explain a little bit why she likes this scripture and how it affects our name. And I'll add something if I need to. So the verse and is actually Isaiah 35 1 and it says the wilderness and the dry land shall be glad.
00:01:30
Speaker
The desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus. So, Addie, y did that help us name our podcast Bloom Wild Girls? Because it says that they will bloom, blossom, like the crocus.
00:01:45
Speaker
Awesome. Yeah, blossoming. So, when you're blossoming, when you're blooming, you are growing. And so, as young women and older women, we always want to be growing in the Lord and growing as people.

Motivation and Biblical Lens

00:02:00
Speaker
So in that verse, it also talks about the wilderness. And we know that God can help us to grow no matter what season of life we're in, whether it's a hard one or one that seems easy, whether we're young or whether we're old. So we're blooming in the wilderness. So Bloom Wild Girls. That's how we got the name.
00:02:17
Speaker
And now we're going to share a little bit with you about why we decided to start a podcast specifically for this age group and for girls. So Addy,
00:02:29
Speaker
Why did we decide to start a podcast? Okay, well, I feel like we all were influenced and we enjoyed lots of podcasts with kids, like the Kids Talk Church History and Date Night with the Woods, but there weren't many of those kind of podcasts, so we decided to make our own.
00:02:46
Speaker
Exactly, yeah. We had some good experiences listening together. to a couple podcasts um where the hosts had their daughter on to talk about issues that she was experiencing. And those were really impactful for Addie. And we thought, man, wouldn't it be great if there were more of these?
00:03:07
Speaker
And we couldn't really find anything.

Youth and Faith: 1 Timothy 4:12

00:03:10
Speaker
So we just decided maybe we should create one. And we're not creating because we think that we're experts or we have all this amazing advice to give to people.
00:03:20
Speaker
We're more here to just have the conversation about issues that come up and look to the Word, look to Scripture to see what it says about them and kind of work through it with you guys and have that conversation with you guys so that we can be thinking biblically about different issues that come up in the years of being a teenager and as you're approaching your teenage years as well.
00:03:42
Speaker
So one of the scriptures I think that goes along with that that you could be thinking about is 1 Timothy 4.12, which says, Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.

Growing in Grace: 2 Peter 3:18

00:03:59
Speaker
So, Adi, when you hear that verse, what does it make you think about? Lots of things.
00:04:06
Speaker
Such as? Can you give me one? I like the faith part because you definitely grow in your faith when you're older because you are more responsible and you could have more time to read your Bible and stuff in the mornings and maybe you'll get baptized around that area of your life.
00:04:25
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah. And it's saying not letting people look down you when you're young. You're thinking of yourself as older because you're an older sibling. But other people are older than you might be thinking of you as young. So you're saying that even though you're 13, you still can be growing in your faith, which is true. We should always be doing that.
00:04:43
Speaker
um Another verse from 2 Peter 3.18 says, Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And that's for all believers. We should always be growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord. And I think that a podcast that discusses issues that are pertinent to our seasons of life can be a helpful way to grow.
00:05:05
Speaker
um One more that I know you enjoy, that Addy enjoys this verse, Psalm 144, 12 through And it says, May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown. Our daughters like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace.

Podcast Goals and Young Girls' Issues

00:05:21
Speaker
So what do you think that verse is talking about or why do you like that verse? Well, I like how it talks about how they want them to be all grown up, like flip full grown, like plants. I like the illustrations in the verse.
00:05:35
Speaker
Do you like being compared to corner pillars? Yeah. What would corner pillars do to a structure? keep it strong and together yeah definitely and i also like that it's a palace that kind of sounds special something beautiful probably well done and important place so um who we are becoming matters and so that's kind of what we're going to talk about in this podcast so we talked about why we wanted to start a podcast um
00:06:06
Speaker
And a little bit of the goal we mentioned, coming alongside other girls, girls and their moms. Hopefully you guys can listen together.

Purpose of Life and Christian Identity

00:06:15
Speaker
um Talking about issues young girls face, but doing it through a biblical lens. Maybe even answering questions if you have questions you want to send in or requests for topics. And then definitely we plan to do some interviews.
00:06:27
Speaker
um of other girls and and maybe businesses. And we also want to provide lots of recommendations for resources that we have found helpful over the year. I know Addie has a lot of great resources that she wants to share over the course of this podcast. So, Addie, what other purposes or goals or plans do we have for this podcast that you want to share?
00:06:52
Speaker
don't really know. You're not sure yet? We're just getting started. so As we go along, I'm sure we will get more specific ideas. And we are going to actually share a few ideas at the end for some of the topics that we'll be discussing. So we have kind of a really big question that we were going to talk about today.
00:07:10
Speaker
And that is, what is the purpose of man? Or for us, what is the purpose man? Of women. So, Adi, you have the answer to that question, right?
00:07:22
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. So, there's this, should do the quote? Well, what about the answer to that question? Okay. so So, the purpose of man or woman is to glorify God and enjoy for him forever. And you might have heard someone ask about what is the point of life And I feel like I've heard people say that and I probably should have spoke. I think I spoke up once and told them it's to enjoy God and glorify God and enjoy him forever.
00:07:55
Speaker
And yeah, so we're going to talk a lot more about that. I feel like in another episode about witnessing to people. Definitely. But why for us? Okay. So if the purpose of man is to enjoy God and glorify him forever, then what's the purpose of a 13 year old girl? Because that's what you are.
00:08:14
Speaker
To work on. Well, would it be the same? Would it be glorify God and enjoy him forever? Is that your purpose as well? Yeah. Definitely. So what we're going to talk about is, well, how do we live that out? How do we do that? Can you think of any examples off the top of your head about how you could do that? i'm Going to church, praising him, reading your Bible. Definitely. And then feel like the enjoying forever part is like when you get to heaven.
00:08:45
Speaker
In the end, you can enjoy him forever. Yeah. Glorify him in earth and you can enjoy him forever in heaven. Yeah, so that's kind of a big question. It's a big overarching question that can kind of inform what we do in our daily lives. No matter what age we are, we can think about, is this glorifying God? What I'm doing? Or how can I do that today? Whether I'm 13 or 9 or 16 or however old I am, how can I glorify God today?
00:09:09
Speaker
um Okay, so we also had another quote that we were going to talk about today that we thought Would be great for the purpose of this podcast, which is to come alongside young women.
00:09:20
Speaker
um Do you want to read the quote for us or shall I read the quote? You can read it. I'll read it. Okay. So one of my favorite authors and speakers is Elizabeth Elliott. You may have heard of her. and She was the wife of a missionary and a missionary who was killed.
00:09:38
Speaker
While he was serving. And she has a really interesting story. And a lot of great encouragement for Christian. And women and specifically. And she once said. These are her words. The fact that I am a woman.
00:09:51
Speaker
Does not make me a different kind of Christian. But the fact that I am a Christian. Makes me a different kind of woman. So I'm going to say it one more time. And I'm going to put the word girl in there.
00:10:03
Speaker
For you guys. And then you can kind of say. What you think that means. For us. Okay. The fact that I am a girl does not make me a different kind of Christian.
00:10:14
Speaker
But the fact that I am a Christian makes me a different kind of girl. So what do you think that means, Adi? Okay. I think that that quote means you can't let the fact that you're a woman or a girl interfere with being a Christian, that you should just let Christianity and the fact that you're Christian make or decide what kind of woman or girl you will be.
00:10:36
Speaker
Yeah, I think that order is important because if we put being a girl or a woman first, we might come up with some excuses or um even limit ourselves, what we think we're able to do or what we should do.

Future Podcast Topics and Personal Interests

00:10:52
Speaker
Whereas if we put being a Christian first, then that can help us make our decisions in a proper order. I'm a Christian, so therefore I should do C. And so...
00:11:03
Speaker
um and so We don't want to elevate the concept of being a girl or a woman above being a Christian. So our identity is first in Christ then before it's even in being a woman.
00:11:19
Speaker
Okay, so I think the next thing what we're going to talk about since today is more of an introduction um it's kind of a sneak peek. Right. Into some of the topics. We have a pretty long list of topics, people to interview that we can't wait to share with you. But we're just going to give you a few of the ideas that have come up so far.
00:11:40
Speaker
So why don't you go ahead and tell some of them? Okay, so a few of our episode topic ideas. There's going to be phones. We're on phones and stuff and how the time you spend on them.
00:11:53
Speaker
We're on hygiene, keeping yourself clean. Book recommendations. Yes, that's a good one. We love books. Yeah, responsibility. Makeup. makeup Okay. Being an older sibling. Mm-hmm.
00:12:09
Speaker
Keeping your room clean. That's a good one. Woman's roles. Mm-hmm.
00:12:16
Speaker
Relationships with Dad. And then the me monster are just a few of the possible ones. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. That sounds awesome. I can't wait to talk about all those things. a lot of these things are topics that we discuss anyway, that we have discussed, and just great things to be talking about with your parents or Christian friends, mentors.
00:12:39
Speaker
So those are some of the ones that we're excited to share with. And we don't actually know yet which one we're going to do first, so it will be a surprise when we do our next recording which one we do first. So I think...
00:12:50
Speaker
Keep listening to find Yeah, you got to keep listening if you want to find out what it's going to be. um So I think what we'll do now is we'll do a little bit of a get to know Addie so that you can know just a little bit about her since she'll be on here a lot. Sometimes we might have...
00:13:04
Speaker
So all my other daughters on here as well. and So go ahead, Addie, and tell us a little bit about yourself. Well, so my name is actually Addison. but i'm just i go by Addie. I'm 13 years old, and want to add my favorite Bible verse.
00:13:18
Speaker
It's Psalm 1611, and it says, For you make known to me the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of joy, and at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. And I actually said that at my baptism.
00:13:31
Speaker
And so it's a special verse to me. I also really love horses and reading, especially reading. And i like writing letters. i have tons of pen pals.
00:13:43
Speaker
Oh, yes, definitely. She does. That is true. Maybe some of you could end up being a pen pal. Maybe we'll have to add in a pen pal activity. Yeah, yeah. That would be fun.
00:13:53
Speaker
Okay, so I'm going to throw a question out that you weren't prepared for, but what's something you're reading right now? A book you're reading right now that you're enjoying? Last Book of the Winged Feather Saga series. Okay, nice. i have not read those ones.
00:14:06
Speaker
All my cousins kept telling me to do it, so I finally did, and they great. So who is the author? Um, I think Andrew Peterson. Yes, I've actually read some books by him, but they're not fiction. So, um, but I know that he writes very well.
00:14:23
Speaker
So I would assume the fiction. And illustrates very well. Oh, yes. And illustrates, which is fun to have the illustrations. Okay, what about like a section of the Bible that you're reading or a Bible study book that you're reading that you're enjoying right now? Lies Young Women Believe.
00:14:38
Speaker
Yes, and I've read the adult version, Lies and Women Believe. read though First I read Lies Girls Believe, and then Lies Young Women Believe, and then I'm done with that, I'll have to wait a while before I do Lies Women Believe. Yeah, probably. But I have some other ones to fill in that time.
00:14:53
Speaker
Okay, and when when she gets to those, we can share recommendations. So what do you like about that book? um I like how it helps you to find out the lies and replace them with truth. And it's very cool to...
00:15:06
Speaker
like find out how to do that and especially like putting verses up around yeah i love to do that my room's full of verses yeah that's really helpful because it's kind of like um when the scriptures tell us to take every thought captive when we do that then we can decide is this thing i'm thinking is it true is it not true um what does scripture say about it and then we can replace wrong thoughts with correct thoughts so that's very helpful Okay, well, that is going to be it for our introductory podcast today.

Introducing Ellery and Her Perspectives

00:15:40
Speaker
i'm we might be adding in one more person for you to meet today, but that's it with Addison for now. So thanks for listening to her. You want to say bye, Addie? Yeah. Bye. See you hopefully later.
00:15:56
Speaker
Okay, so now I am here with my second daughter, Ellery. Want to say hi? Hi. Okay, and Ellery, why don't you tell the listeners a little something about yourself?
00:16:06
Speaker
Just a couple things. How old are you? Eleven. Okay, and tell them a few things that you enjoy doing. Well, I enjoy doing things like playing with my sisters and... Do you have hobbies? Yes.
00:16:24
Speaker
yes kind of any pets that are a hobby yeah goats okay uh-huh okay so you like goats playing with your sisters do you play an instrument yes i play violin i'm learning violin so those are a few fun facts now ellery why do you think um why are we starting this podcast why do you think it's a good idea
00:16:53
Speaker
Do you like listening to podcasts? Yes, I do. Do you have any of that are, that you've enjoyed in the past? Any favorites?
00:17:04
Speaker
Um... I like the Date Nighters with the Woods. Date Night with the Woods, yes. She's listened to a few of those with me and a few with their daughter as well, which is kind of what inspired us.
00:17:17
Speaker
Sometimes we listen to one called Kids Talk Church History. oh yeah, that one's that one's good. And it's run by kids also, so it's fun to hear people that are a similar age to you talking about interesting topics.
00:17:31
Speaker
Okay, um so I asked Addy a question earlier. we talked about, it's a question from a catechism um that says, what's the chief end of man? The answer is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. So I asked Addy, well, how do you do that when you're 13? So I'm going ask you what are some ways you do that when you're 11?
00:17:53
Speaker
Well, just doing regular things, I guess, like obeying your parents and doing what you need to do and your score can chores and stuff.
00:18:05
Speaker
Yeah. That's great. Reading your Bible. Yeah, I think what you said, doing regular things is actually really important because we can do regular things for the glory of God.
00:18:16
Speaker
And when you're 11, you can't go off and be a missionary all by yourself. But yes, you can obey your parents, which God calls you to do. you can do your your work well. Whatever we do, we're supposed to do all for the glory of God. So you definitely can still be fulfilling your purpose in life even when you're 11.
00:18:33
Speaker
Right? Yep. right yeah So can you think of any of the topics that you think would be helpful for other girls your age that we might be discussing on this podcast in the future?
00:18:46
Speaker
Well, a topic that I've been reading about in a book. is getting up early or at least getting up at all.
00:18:59
Speaker
Ellery sometimes struggles to to get out of bed. Yes. So that's funny that you've been, was that in your Bible study book? Yeah, it's like this whole, like so long, just all these chapters about getting up and like starting your day well.
00:19:12
Speaker
So were you convicted? Kind of. I'm like, oh. I'm hearing this for the first time right now live on this podcast. so Done that forever. I'm fed late and wake up late.
00:19:25
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, some people do require more sleep. I don't i don't think you're taking it too far, but that's always good to when you hear something like that, wisdom to evaluate, hmm, is this something that I need to be applying to my life? Could I grow in this area?
00:19:41
Speaker
Do I feel a conviction from the Lord to maybe change what

Excitement for Future Content

00:19:45
Speaker
I've been doing? I think that's awesome. And I think it's cool that even when you're 11, you can start doing that. You can start applying God's word. You can start creating good habits.
00:19:54
Speaker
And that's kind of what we're going to talk about on this podcast, right? Ways to do that when you're an 11-year-old girl. All right. Is there anything else you want to say to the listeners today for our very first podcast?
00:20:07
Speaker
I don't know. Are you excited to do it? Oh, yes. I'm super excited. And excited to interview people. Yeah. Totally. Yes. I am so excited for the interview. we We are hoping to get some fun people on to interview. That will be helpful and just kind of fun to hear their stories and to encourage all of you.
00:20:27
Speaker
So thank you for listening to Bloom Wild Girls podcast. And we look forward to spending more time with you. Bye. you next time.
