Controversy in the Copa Italia Final

Inter, they defeat Juve in the Copa Italia final. However, guys, no shortage of controversy as per usual.

Was the Penalty Justified?

So let's talk about the very first penalty. What's your verdict? The first penalty is absolutely scandalous. I mean, I love to know what the penalty was given for.

The following is a clip from this week's Italian football podcast.

Whoever it was given against is a complete joke. The licks knee barely tickles Lautaro's knee, so it can't be given for that. As for Benucci, he stands his ground and it's Lautaro who looks for the contact and hooks his leg inside Benucci. Benucci just stands there, which he has every right to do. I can't believe a penalty is given for this in such a big moment, such a big game.

Impact of the Penalty on Juventus

10-12 minutes to go, Juventus are 2-1 up and based on the chances up until that point probably deserved to be ahead. They were shambles after it but this penalty completely changed the game and it was scandalous.

Comparing Inter and Juventus

Well, just like Giorgio Chilini said after the game, that Inter were better. I agree with him on that, because Inter were better overall. And there is a gap between Inter and Juve. As for the penalty goes, it's a penalty in 2022, maybe not in 1999, but it's a penalty in 2022, just as an Napoli discovered against Barcelona and the Champions League during the lockdown Champions

where Cully Bali was adjudged to have fouled Messi, I think, if I remember correctly. But it is a penalty because it's given for Bonucci blocking Lautaro's left foot. He's standing with his back to Leonardo Bonucci. Bonucci goes into it, going into the situation, just as Lautaro is about to kick it. His foot is impeded. He's obstructed. It's a

penalty. There's also a lot of question marks surrounding Legri. Carlo, what did you make of that?

Speaker
He was disaster. Midway through the second half, you know, in control, they have Inter on the ropes and then he brings on an extra defender for a midfielder, invites all the pressure on from which this penalty comes from. And a lot of it has to go through Allegri. He's been a disaster. He's paid seven to nine million euros a year, no trophies, lowest points tally for over a decade, finished fourth again, points even then peer low last season. He absolutely deserves so much blame, not just for yesterday, but for the whole season.
