Very recently, I had a very great conversation with Tony Young. And in this conversation, one of the things that Tony has been experimenting with is using AI to help him come up with pictures and designs for his pottery.

And there was a bunch of mixed emotions in this comment, in this post that I made. Some people were excited about it. They were like, yes, I love using AI. It's such a great tool to help me formulate my thoughts and help me

get my pottery to where I want it to go. And other people were very hesitant on using it because they felt like if they used AI, it takes the human connection out of it. And they don't want to be, they don't want to take the human connection out of the pottery.
Using AI to Overcome Creative Blocks

But I'm here to tell you that you don't, AI isn't a tool to help you take the human connection out of the pottery and just do everything for you.

It's not what AI is here for. AI is a tool to help you formulate your thoughts in your brain and help them formulate them better, help you formulate your ideas better, quicker, faster. It's not to hold you back. It's a tool to help you go faster, help you get your ideas out better and even get new ideas as well. And we can all use this in our pottery.

And it can really help some people, especially if you have a block, like an artist block, where you can't really think of anything to add to your pottery. And it becomes really hard, it can be really daunting. And then you just waste a whole entire day, a whole entire week because you're thinking of how to improve your pottery or how to create a certain image. Picture this.

Let's say you are trying to make a mountain mug, a mug that has mountain design in the background, but you're trying to figure out a way to spice it up a little bit. Here's where AI can help you. So in an AI art generator, what you could put into the prompt is you say, create me a mountain image that has

stars in it and it's going to pop out an image for you. And then boom, you could either take it or leave it. If you like it, great. Then you can use that. You can model that as inspiration. But if you don't like it, then you could try something else. Create me a mountain image with trees in the background or with trees as shadows and then see where that image takes you.
Will AI Replace Potters?

We want to use AI as a tool to help us formulate our thoughts, not as a way to replace us, but help us move forward with our pottery so that we can keep on growing and keep on making better pottery. AI isn't going to replace us as potters. Maybe other art forms, but not us as potters because pottery is a unique art form where

We can do all these other things like painting, we can do chattering, we can do carving, we can do sculpting, we can do all these different things in our pottery, but at the end of the day, it takes a human element into our pottery, especially for those of us that aren't doing production pottery. It takes a human element into that. And we can, I truly believe AI won't replace pottery.

because there's so many different things that we could do with our pottery, and AI is just a tool to help us formulate our thoughts. I'm sorry. Really wanna encourage you, don't be afraid of AI. Use it to your advantage.

Some tools that may help you is, so one, I've heard Mid-Journey is a really good tool. It may be a little expensive, but I've heard it's a really good tool and it helps create really, really good images. A tool that I use is called Wonder,

And it's free on the App Store. And if you don't mind watching ads, it still creates you some really good images. And that's what I use. You can even use AI to help you come up with a new design for your pottery. So let's say you are stuck on a form that you want with your pottery. You've been stuck with it for a while. You could put into AI, create me 10 different pottery

mug forms that I can apply to my pottery. And then with this, it'll give you 10 ideas or even 10 pictures. And that's gonna speed up everything. Again, AI is a tool to help you formulate your thoughts. So that's why I wanted to make this video is because don't be afraid of AI.

because it's not going anywhere. So you might as well start using it and start adapting to it so that you can start applying it to your pottery and get new ideas with it.
