Involuntary treatment is currently allowed under B.C.'s Mental Health if a doctor deems it necessary for a person’s health and safety, as well as the safety of others. However, Premier David Eby is proposing to expand the system to cover people who overdose. Last week, Pivot Legal Society released a position paper responding to this move and calling for the elimination of involuntary treatment.
