Speaker: I can see you. You can see me. a cat is making a face like she can't hear me. Oh, no, I can hear you. I'm just double checking. She's disgusted. I don't blame her. Thanks. We were just talking before we started about how all of us sounds like absolute shite today. this is This is very true. But yes, we are here. We're all sounding her gravelly.
Speaker: Which could be said that we're all just sounding extra sexy today. That's ah that's a way of putting it. But we are not extra smoky. No, not extra smoky. Extra sexy, extra tasty.
Speaker: Extra hot great. Extra delicious. Extra. Yeah. All right. extra On top of it. It is very hot in this room. So, yeah, I can. i Toasty.
Speaker: Mmm, who doesn't love toast? good Hello everybody, welcome to a view to a podcast.
Speaker: Welcome to another exciting edition of whatever this podcast is becoming. The deep, deep well in which we find ourselves as as sick people. Watching what I think we will probably all agree was not perhaps Mr. Bond's finest showing. Today we are breaking down Thunderball. Really? Wait, Christian. ma Okay, okay. Well, yes, we were going to save it ah a little bit, but...
Speaker: This is jumping right in, man. So Thunderball, Kat, take us through the ah the mechanisms. I am very excited. So we've got Terrence Young returning. We had a blessed respite and then he thought, okay, I'm going to come back and direct one more. And then he never comes back.
Speaker: Thank the heavens. Oh, man. He's not for me. There's not going to be a whole lot of agreement on some of the aspects of this between a third of us and the other two thirds.
Speaker: We will see. I will say, henceforth, my ah Terrence Young impressions are not favorable. That being said, same writer, rate Richard Maybaum, Maybaum, Maybaum. Maybaum. Maybaum. Richard. but hara And um and all, you know, but I have exciting news.
Speaker: You ready for the parents guide? Do tell. You ready? I'm so ready. Sex and nudity. Mild. What? That's a bold. Yeah.
Speaker: I mean, it's not showing anything. This parents guide. Okay. But get this. Violence and gore. We're finally up there. We got a moderate baby. Woo. Woo. Booyah.
Speaker: So Thunderball's a piece of garbage, i think, is what we've kind of come No, no, no, we're not. We're not done. We were at violence and gore. Violence and gore is moderate. So we're finally stepping up with some of the parental guidance.
Speaker: That being said, profanity is none. Was there really not a single cuss in there? I don't think there was. i didn't I don't remember any cusses sticking out. That's insanity. Yeah, I didn't i didn't to detect to any either.
Speaker: m Cuss. Is that your new swear word? Cuss. You know, fantastic, Mr. Fox. I've been known to swear a cuss myself. Diaper biscuits.
Speaker: Oh, whoa, whoa. This is a family podcast, Christian. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Sell down Cheat Commando. oh You just need to make a team choice behavior.
Speaker: Do we have to have a Homestar jar as well? We got a schmackin' jar. Should we have a Homestar? Like, here is our quote. Take it away, Christian.
Speaker: Beautiful.
Speaker: beautiful I have some additional. Sorry, were you done with the parents? No, i'm let me quickly finish up. Alcohol, drugs, and smoking, mild, frightening, and intense scenes, mild. But, you know, for having that many sharks, having a mild, frightening scene with a moderate gore. Well, people don't know the the the the almost accident that happened with Mr. Connery that I'll get into once you're after done with the parents' guide.
Speaker: ah Now I'm done. Oh, well, in that case. But tell us about Sean Connery and the the sharks. So Ken Klaus Adam was relating interesting.
Speaker: He was he was shared an anecdote about the some of the underwater sequences, which were directed by rickku Browning, also known as the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Speaker: Oh, that actually is kind of cool. design what are you a Creature designed by a woman, by the way. Oh. Yep. Who also designed Chernobog in Fantasia.
Speaker: Oh, Chernobog. Oh, is that a spider jar? No, turnno Chernobog is the demon on top of Night at Bald Mountain. Oh, I'm said to swear I was being dumb.
Speaker: but So anyhow, so Ken Adam was talking, he was being interviewed by, um i don't remember which publication in the UK, but he basically said, so in order to have Connery swim with the sharks for ah several, well, mostly just the the duel in the pool with the ghoul. You're poet, you didn't even know that you were doing it. Damn.
Speaker: So when they're having that underwater knife fight, um it's it's kind of, it's actually a little bit more pronounced. Maybe it is just because I'm watching the Blu-ray version, but you can totally see it. But it adds a little bit of danger because,
Speaker: They built this little corridor for the shark to go in, but they didn't build it long enough. And they like they cheaped out and they didn't build it long enough. And so one of the sharks got around this little tunnel and chased after him like that.
Speaker: Oh, sequence like you see him like barely getting away from that. That's real. Like he was very close to ah being bitten by this shark. That might be true. But you know what? It's fantastic cinema.
Speaker: it is it was and well another thing to watch Bond literally fleeing for his life and fear exactly and the thing that's neat is that you can actually well it's neat but it's also kind of a blooper when he first leaves the core like the actual like tunnel like corridor that's you know separates the pools you can actually see one of the plexiglass panes like dangling like it falls off um I feel like we saw that in our Blu-ray as well. There was at least one pane where I went, oh, there's the plexiglass between the two. And you can just see that little line of,
Speaker: oh I also have to do some self-correction here. Because I think in our intro, or I don't remember when we were talking about it, but we were talking about like the... pushing the envelope of underwater photography. And I misspoke. It wasn't Thunderball. However, Riku's. Was it Dr. No? No, so it was ah ah Jacques Cousteau's um The Silent World was the one that really pushed it. I mean, he won he won a Palme d'Or award.
Speaker: I'm not saying that right. I'm not French. It was out it was close enough. it was Close enough. But yes, and then one last little factoid, Bond's assistant. um The unnamed magically their girl? She had a name and it was Paula, and I will talk about her.
Speaker: so okay Okay, then i will I will let you talk about that. Maybe you'll bring up this little factoid. so Oh, probably not. I'm just going to talk about my feelings and thoughts and interpretations thereof.
Speaker: Did you know that she's played by the same actress who played one of the two Romani girls? And she's she's from Jamaica. yeah Like it's it yeah.
Speaker: Who'd have thought? Yeah. Apparently for the Romani scene, she had suntan for about two months straight. Suntan with a with a container of a dark foundation.
Speaker: Just yeah smearing it on. Karim Bay. Back to the salt mines. Well, so we have a whole movie ahead of us. ah Kat, let's get this party started.
Speaker: What's the vibe? Uh, the vibe. I ended up... I was generous at first and gave it a five, and then I bumped it down to a four, because this movie is a snooze fest.
Speaker: Ugh. This is the point where, Christian, I hate to break it to you, Taylor and I did not care for this movie. all. Gee, I didn't... hell I couldn't tell at all. Take words out of my mouth.
Speaker: Uh, there were so many points where I just thought, okay, Back it up. This script is a mess. This script is terrible. It's like they decided the action scenes first and then tried to go back and paste on a story ah because there were so many points where I thought, what what is happening? Why do I care?
Speaker: what what What are you doing? You dumb bitch. Yeah. This movie is a dumb bitch. It was a four. I hated it. Taylor?
Speaker: Jeez. started at four. I did not like this movie. I said four if I'm feeling generous. It feels like the movie started halfway through something that it didn't feel like it needed to explain.
Speaker: It was like, and all of a sudden Bond is like, I guess on vacation, maybe. But there's a guy there who he cares about, but sort of not really not sure why. And then he's working, but he's not. And also like, what is going on?
Speaker: It's like it started halfway through, decided not to give the backstory for why it started the way it did. And then just kind of went action sequences. Why was he in the spa? Why was he in the spa? Christian, riddle me that. Why was he the just to say this as explicitly as I can. This is a legitimately bad movie.
Speaker: Wow. Amen, sister. Wow. Okay. I can't wait until Kat and I are like, this is the best. And Christian's like, what is wrong with you? Oh, it's going to happen. Guaranteed. It's absolutely going to happen. And then we're going to watch yeah Live and Let Die. Yes.
Speaker: no And I'll just be standing there by myself going, yay. I don't think Live and Let Die. Yeah, Live and Let Die is not going to be divisive at all. Everyone loves it. Okay, so there's probably a lot of things lost in translation. So you probably noticed, I brought this up ah on the first episode, I think, Kemben McClory is a name that you don't see in any of the other films as a producer credit.
Speaker: Because he worked with um Sir Ian Fleming on the story. And actually there was like a lawsuit, which is why Never Say Never Again exists.
Speaker: But there's a reason why Bond goes to this like health spa in Never Say Never Again. It makes more sense in that film than it does in this one. There's little things that were like hinted at, like Moneypenny makes a jab about him not having any energy while only having like lemon juice and yogurt or something like that.
Speaker: Yes, because he says, I'm going to have her over my knee. Yeah, and he's like, after lemon juice and yogurt, and I'd like to see that. like Basically, it's not very well explained. i will give it that.
Speaker: That just took... I did not get it until this moment. It's saying he won't have the energy to... do her something good okay so in never say never again it's he's old and worn out which makes a lot more sense in that film um given connery's age i mean he's still a man of a man but still they they mi5 sends him to this like health spa so that's why he's there to begin with it's not very well set up Okay, let's hold up for just a second and go back to the story, though. So you were talking about Kevin McClory?
Speaker: Yes. Right? So this is one that did not have a pre-existing book, if I'm correct. Yes. And the lawsuit was that later Ian Fleming did a novel.
Speaker: Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So this was pieced together by a producer then. her hers Or tell us more, Christian. I'm all ears.
Speaker: what what's your What's your vibe check, homie? No, you go for your vibe check. I want to get all the vegetables out of the way. no we did. oh We were both fours. We were both fours. Oh, yeah, okay. i just I'm distracted. By our hatred. By his own rage. Maybe I was bewitched by Tom Jones. Ugh.
Speaker: Um... I think you were. Okay. You're going to hate me. You're really going to hate me. I'm not talking about the story here. I'm talking about the vibe, not the story. Fair. The vibe is a nine for me.
Speaker: Oh my gosh. Wow. It doesn't start off at a nine. It doesn't start off at a nine, but it is a nine. like the whole like The whole movie basically takes place in Nassau. It's amazing.
Speaker: bond in his element it's bond like in charge i love like the repartee with him and largo which we'll get to i think it is far more the beach the whole like beach vibe that go that goldfinger started out with it's like that's through the entire film and i love that i love that He's just large and in charge. I mean, like M even makes fun of him. He's like, you don' you don't want to go to Nassau because of your love of water sports, do you?
Speaker: You know, you're you're bringing up a very interesting thing that I'm just realizing now, which is I have been using the vibe as whether or not I was vibing with the movie. And you were using the vibe as the the experience of what it would be like to be in the world of the movie, if I'm not mistaken. like the like the Bond vibe, not like... Like what you think a Bond vibe should be.
Speaker: Yeah, I think that um obviously like we'll have some ups and downs between now and the end, but I love the like the Bond vibe of because if you have that nice contrast. You have this like kind of dumb, I will admit, it makes, like I said, it makes more sense in Never Say Never Again, which was directed by Irvin Kirshner of Empire Strikes Back fame, by the way. That's a good thing to look forward to. Are we going to watch Never Say Never Again?
Speaker: I thought you put it isn't it on here. Did I? Okay. I may have put it on. I'm looking. I'm looking. Cause it's not an Eon productions film. It's not a number 15. Okay. Well now I'm going to have to go buy one. um Do we have it? I guess that's a good point. It's not in the, it's not going to be in that box set that we have.
Speaker: um But yes. So the vibe, like it is that there's that nice contrast. It's like bond is out of his element. He's like being pushed around by it Like again, It's done better and it's done better and never say never again, being pushed around by the the Mater D, the the lead um health specialist, which he assaults. Yeah, I hate that. i I wrote down in my notes that I hate this. Like, this is just awful. Absolutely. It's vile. She is so clear about her boundaries. Which, by the way, we will get to that when we get to that, desire deserve to be fair. So we're sticking with the vibe right now. Christian gave a nine.
Speaker: Yeah, so nine. The contrast is good, and it's like a kind of rampant. That's the action. We'll talk about that in a bit. But yes. Well, actually, that's a good segue because you are up for action. So what did you get for the action then?
Speaker: So the action gets an eight because it's not all the way through. There are some good like elements in it. But I don't think that it is as strong. So like I say, I only gave it an eight.
Speaker: it will It'll balance out when I talk to the visual language because it's it's kind of a hot mess, but it's a glorious, exhilarating hot mess. But I think that Bond has a way, even though he's at this place being put there to either re rehabilitate or...
Speaker: whatever it may be. Also, did we not talk about the opening sequence? I liked that opening sequence. I liked the opening. Yeah. The cold open with the funeral. I thought it was good up to a certain point that I will talk about with my action rating.
Speaker: yeah But yes, the, I, like I said, there's a nice, there's, there's some pacing and there's a nice rhythm to it where you're not being just like constantly bombarded, which I appreciate.
Speaker: What I really wish, I mean, I wish is a strong word, but i kind of wish we were doing video just so people could watch the grimaces rotating around the three of us grimacing as someone else says something. Watching Christian grimace as we talked about how much we didn't like the movie is offset only by watching Cat grimace as as he describes the action.
Speaker: Oh, man. Wow. Okay. I don't have a good poker face. I just. Cat does not have a good poker I don't. I just want to make it really clear that I love both of you so dearly. And this is not a reflection of who I think you are as people.
Speaker: I gave it a three. And that last point five is only for the end fight scene because everything else was a garbled mess of things being smushed together. i I mean, i agree. I was more generous than you, but less generous than Christian.
Speaker: i will say, though, just so we're yeah to be be fair, I actually had originally given it like a four and a half by about three quarters of the way through the movie. I was so disappointed and bored that I couldn't see anything, which might be a visual language thing. But even the action, like the the way they shot the action scenes, there was no the there was no music. It was because all underwater, they're kind of moving in slow motion.
Speaker: uh and then like the other thing that kind of killed me the action scene is like i know how i'm gonna kill you let me rip your mask off and they go but i'm dead no no you're like two feet underwater rise up breathe put the thing back your mouth and go fight some more what are you talking about you're dying like this it was the film it at that depth for safety there you're supposed to be like unimaginable like you're supposed to be at like unsafe depths I believe that's what they were hoping for. If that was the case, I should not have been able to see light filtering from the barely above the screen waterline.
Speaker: It was poorly done. but i just it it I could not get lost in it because of how badly it was shot. And it was boring and there was no music to it. And the because it was so dark, you couldn't really tell what you're supposed to be paying attention to. I did not like it.
Speaker: but ah So here's my thing. I completely agree with you. I think that last water scene was interminable. There was one cool moment where he does the whole, so like, I'm down in this hole and here's a bomb and I'm going to blow you up when you follow me. That was great. But everything else is just, and here is a bunch of yellow and a bunch of black and they're swimming and it's And then that goes on for 10 minutes. With no music and with like not enough light.
Speaker: Yeah. So i I gave the action a five. So I was more generous than Taylor. I'm very surprised that you're being more generous to this than I was. I thought that you were giving like straight twos based on just looking at you while you watch the movie.
Speaker: What can I say? i have a hard time. i mean, we're not talking about the live action avatar, the last airbender here, you know, like. okay that's fair there are much worse movies that exist so it's not the lowest threshold but i can't believe you are bringing the live action avatar the last airbender into this conversation how dare you when we haven't we haven't even gotten to the brosnan era yet and you're bringing out the zingers from m night shamalan oh my goodness I was saying it was better than that.
Speaker: I would rather watch this than that. that's I would rather watch this than a rock. I would rather watch people take diarrhea dumps on my face than the M. Night Shyamalan movie. I will say ah that I think that what's going to happen is when we get to the end of the Brosnan thing, this will be a little more switched where Christian will be holding back the vomit.
Speaker: As Kat and I, no, was kind of fun and cheering. Chris is like, what is wrong with you two? What on earth is possibly enjoyable about this? I'm so excited for this. I mean, i liked an invisible car. What can I say?
Speaker: oh my gosh. I'm sorry. need to turn off notifications. Yes, you do. OK, OK, OK. This is what I get for hooking up signal to my phone. I apologize. I mean, signal to my computer.
Speaker: That's dangerous. and like That negates the per the point of signal. I only did it to um send you guys the link, to be honest.
Speaker: Fine, fine, fine. You're all right about everything all the time. the count of three, everyone who's in a good mood right now, raise your hand. One, two, three. Oh, man. No hands. Who could have seen that coming? We're killing it. I'm not in a bad mood. Okay.
Speaker: No, we're trying. Okay. Let me go back to the action, though, because there are a couple things. Do we need to? I haven't shouted enough. No. I think you've made your opinions abundantly clear. No, no, no, no, no. No, because Christian. These are tears of anguish. I don't know. I need to get your opinion on something that really bothered me with the action.
Speaker: and as our resident chaos, you just know everything you're, you're in my fount of all knowledge. I'm just going to assume whatever question I have, you know, the answer to, um,
Speaker: First off, just one bullet for no reason. ah I hated the jetpack scene so much. Not even Sean Connery could make that look cool. It looked so dorky. I'm like, oh, look at the cute little fifth grader with his science project. Yay. Oh, man. Yikes. I actually like the jet scene. It's so classic Bond, though. I mean, like the nostalgia kind of carries it for me. But I understand if you don't have that.
Speaker: Exactly. I don't have that nostalgia. And I thought, wow, this guy looks dorky as heck. That was real, too. Also, the rack is ridiculous. Wait, what do you mean it was real? The Swedish... Oh, yeah. this The scenes with like Sean Connery were rear rear projection composite shotted.
Speaker: That jetpack is fully functional. that's a millet That was a US military project. It doesn't work for very long, but it works. h Okay, that's kind of cool.
Speaker: tell that's and like you can did the The telltale is at the very end because it is spewing gravel all over that Aston Martin when it was not intended to. I'm pretty sure they did not intend that to happen. oh it wasn't but i was wondering but isn't reing because when he lands, was like, i I can't see the line very clearly and they're doing a really good job. Wow.
Speaker: That's impressive. I think that Christian might have a point in that we've beaten it to death already. Okay, no, but I just have one more question. um Something that ruined a lot of the action scenes for me is I felt like the tail end, any kind of combat or throwing was clearly sped up tape. I i will admit I hate that fast motion. I've said it and like multiple times. It is...
Speaker: really overdone the only reason why the end fight gets any cred with me is because bond is actually fighting with largo he's not yeah across the room it's not it's not a kirk con situation Yeah. I know that I just said we should move on from the action, but does ah does Bond's near death by humping machine go under action or is that? Oh, I mentioned an action and I said it's ridiculous. It is. It's bad. Yeah.
Speaker: All right. So let's let's move on to one liners. I think, Christian, you will be excited to know that I actually thought the one liners in this were a lot of fun. I gave the one liners in this a seven. And the one particularly that I really enjoyed is when he's dancing with what's her face and she gets shot and he goes, oh, she's freshly dead. I was like, that is so delicious. yeah What a great stupid pun.
Speaker: I loved it. I thought the one-liners were a lot of fun in this. They weren't the best. they but Goldfinger had better puns, I think. But like, I think the puns in this were still pretty good. Better certainly than ah than from Russia with Love and Dr. No.
Speaker: Goldfinger had a lot more. Yeah. These ones were fun, though. So that's. yeah The movie wasn't all garbage. There were parts that I did enjoy. I just thought like the vibe was not doing it for me. The action was not either.
Speaker: ah Yeah, I gave it a five. I have nothing more to say. Christian, take it away.
Speaker: you You can't pull any punches with me, okay? You've warm you' warmed me up, and now you have to go all the way. You have to, like, just pummel with this. Okay, so I also gave it the one-liners a seven.
Speaker: There weren't as many as Goldfinger. i but And I'm like, the first one was just kind of, it was a little too long, I guess, to be considered a, like, Some people on the road, what does it say? so I'm sorry, I got to navigate to it. some Some people on the roads really burn you up these days. That was like, yeah okay, that's a little too much effort. But then she's just dead.
Speaker: yeah it was perfect. Yeah. Well, he got the he got to the point, or he got the point. Yeah, another it was like all the things that like, I think a good one-liner is one that you can see Roger Moore pulling off. I think Roger Moore was clearly the king of the one-liner, and if you can see Roger Moore doing it well, then like, it's probably a good indication that it's a good one-liner, I think.
Speaker: You're glad. yeah so Yes, Bond. Yes, she is. Yes. All right. Well, that brings us, i guess, then to the villain, which is up to you, Yeah.
Speaker: Yes. So the villain, i Once again, much... Just so much of my points are going to be in that mid-range because I was just bored.
Speaker: And again, it's not that I found it bracingly bad in a lot of cases. i was just bored. um So i I did give this villain a six, you know, above average villain work. I think the eye patch is worth at least two of those points because you gotta love an eye patch. It was helpful in the the action sequences where everything was dark to see the going guy who will only see one of his eyes. like Oh, that must be, that must be the bad guy. This is Largo vision. Yes. ah We were just seeing the whole movie through that, which wrecked the vibe. I kind of wish that he would have had goggles just on one eye and the other one was like a flap. Oh, that would have been so great. Flapping around in the ocean. that would have been amazing.
Speaker: See, I would have given that a seven if he had only one goggle because that would have been visually interesting and hilarious. But as it is, yes, Largo is is menacing. He's got good menace.
Speaker: But he's just so boring. And you do see the menace on the boat. I will say all of his scenes on the boat um later with Domino. I'm like, this is terrifying.
Speaker: He got a six mostly for his scenes with Domino. Oh, yeah. Especially when he ah he James bonded her. Yeah. Yeah. Or presumably they did cut away. Yeah. yeah yeah Christian, what did she miss?
Speaker: Yeah, tell me about Largo. no What was I too busy being I'm going to pack up my toys and go home. i gay I actually ranked Largo higher than Goldfinger. Like i said, we talked about last time, my Goldfinger felt like a boob. like He just was just kind of like... Some of the things that he did were were good.
Speaker: had some good plans, but like the way he comported himself was not what I would consider like high villain quality, but Largo, I feel, is just always in charge. like He's the only one in that scene um and with the Spectre scene.
Speaker: He's the only one who's not sweating. He's the only one who is confident in in his plan. He's the only one who knows that it's going to succeed. He's the only, like, all the way through. Well, you know, there was one other person in that scene who was comfortable and he ended up getting electrocuted in his chair and then dumped into a dumpster. Right up until the very last second when Blofeld says, like, the perpetrator is known to me.
Speaker: Yeah. Then he's like, oh, crap. But I think that Largo has very much in charge. I like the repartee. ah her name I want to say her her name's Fatima, but that's what she's called in Never i Say Never Again. She's called Fiona in this movie, which I hate because I have a niece named Fiona and she's lovely.
Speaker: He's a lovely person. But anyway, she exposits that he needs to keep Bond alive. Otherwise, they will know that the bombs are in Nassau. And so Largo is playing this game and he kind of you know they bruise each other a little bit. I think Bond bruises him more But I think that everything that he is doing to kind of assert, some of it is a little bit of weakness and a lot of it is like compensation for, you know, Bond beating him at Baccarat, Bond oh charming his lady fan.
Speaker: all of those kinds of things. But I just, overall, he was in charge from start to finish. I mean, he lost the fight and Domino got some sweet revenge, which I love. I like, I was that's perfect. That was great. We'll get to that, but yes.
Speaker: But yeah, so I, I feel like he was as in charge as he could be. Hmm. So what was, what's, how many aardvarks? i told I thought I told you, you got eight.
Speaker: Okay, eight aardvarks. You just said higher than Goldfinger. Another thing that I have to stress about this is like, just because I'm giving these high numbers doesn't mean I have to get, it's not a bell curve. I don't have to give, so I don't have to give, i don't. have to give from russia or from the spy who loved me like two because i gave this one an eight no no no i think that we're we're trying not to judge them in the context of the other ones as much as we can i think that's kind of impossible to do but i don't think you're i don't think you're being unfair or callous in any of your your responses to this no i gotta say i also gave him an eight i thought that as a villain eat that cat
Speaker: I will. And I'll eat it spitefully. on nu Oh, I'll eat you. I always want to eat you. I'll eat you from here to Tuesday. hate you. Have you seen that blooper? It's like the outtake from Revenge of the Sith. Like, like, Hayden Christensen. Oh, I hate you.
Speaker: we were having so much fun with that movie yes so i said that i i think that he was genuinely a bad person this is the way that he came across like there was there wasn't any redemption to be found in him he was just like a really bad person and what i what really kicked him up to an eight for me is that he was actively involved in all of the dirty work From the beginning, he goes down to the ship himself to steal those atomic bombs. He's down in the two feet of water. I mean, I'm sorry the 20 feet of water actively killing two miles. They are in the Mariana Trench. tape My bad.
Speaker: My bad. All that is just, you know, anyway, I thought that it was great that he was actively involved in a way that really no other villain had been up to that point. They sent their minions out. The minions did the job or they didn't.
Speaker: But Largo was like, no, no, no. Like if there are hands to be gotten dirty, they will be mine and I will make sure it gets done correctly. I yeah thought that was great. super greatly So that was an eight for me. One, one, sorry. One other thing I want to interject is I appreciated to the Al Capone soup kitchen element at the very beginning with the, the, the Bureau for Displaced per Persons where it's like, they're doing all of this like goodwill on the outside.
Speaker: And I don't know if that's him specifically or for that specter, but as a way to, to, ah to scam people. Well, or just to like put on a face of a put on a front of like, look at all this philanthropy that I'm doing.
Speaker: Full on rapist. Sorry, that's an always sunny joke. we We can cut that. ah Well, this is a good segue. Speaking of always sunny. Cut that, cut that. Christian up. Where to you for for the muscle?
Speaker: I hope that we're in alignment here. The muscle that I there's like multiple henchmen that Largo can command. but it seemed like there were multiple people that also reported to Blofeld. There was the Lord ah Blood Sausage Mick Schlangerdoo, the British guy at the health spa who reported Blofeld. Oh, the guy who didn't make any sense?
Speaker: Yes. Why was he there? yeah the um Fiona also reported to number one. Well, at least she said that she did. but I still consider her to be muscle.
Speaker: Yeah. And I had this whole discussion, Taylor and I about whether the villain was Blofeld or Largo and, See, and that's where the waters get muddied, but I feel like Largo was the villain. I feel like Fiona was the muscle.
Speaker: Yeah. And I think she she was she was a good muscle, I think, like very capable. I think that they, you know, ham-fisted the ham-fisted her like sort of like hubris You know, her her taking umbrage with um Bond's charms. His magical members. Is that a euphemism? We're going say charms instead of sexual assault.
Speaker: ha So, yes, i gave her a seven. Okay. I mean, and i sorry I'm kind of curious, though. ah She was not the only muscle.
Speaker: No. And so she can't be the muscle score. That's true. That's because there was also the the blonde guy who who does not eat. He does not make love.
Speaker: Does not do anything effective in this movie. Yeah. So I feel like i would be curious to know if including him, there's two two men specifically that they were also pretty high up muscle men for Largo. At least the one, does it change your seven knowing that there is more muscle than just Fiona?
Speaker: I mean, they could take orders. I think it would actually knock it down if we included them.
Speaker: So if we included them, it would be like a six and a half. Okay. Like a half point. All right. Yeah. I, if we're going to go in the, uh, in the order we, we done did talked about, I also, I gave it a six and the six were because the men were idiots. Just absolute morons. Thank you. Fiona was great.
Speaker: I liked Fiona quite a bit. I will say Kat and I both kind of struggled with this. She showed up and we're like, wait, isn't that the sister? Wait, why is the sister making out with the guy that they're killing? Who's her brother? Why? It was very confusing. They were two very similar looking women in a way that was kind of like confusing and kind of threw me off. I think that Fiona was great. The men were idiots. I gave it a six for muscle.
Speaker: did she did did um i i can't remember her name but like did she i couldn't find many many photos like on imdb does she naturally have like reddish hair and know some italians do i mean mario patali i don't know a lot of the photos and everything even when you look her up is mostly from this movie so yeah i don't know um was an apropos of That was an apropos of being able to recognize the two of them. Sorry. Well, because even Domino had such reddish hair.
Speaker: yeah It was rather warm. It was very much an auburn versus a just... Jet black. Pure red. um She did not show up jet black haired on ours.
Speaker: I don't feel like Domino had black hair. Maybe, don't know. Anyway. Chestnut. Chestnut. A warm chestnut. See again. ah But I gave the muscle a five, and that was solely because of Fiona. ah The other two men, who I don't even know their names, the blonde guy looked like Bob Fosse to me, and I wish it had been. That would have been way more interesting. He danced his way on screen. I'm going to shoot you now with chest hands. That would been good.
Speaker: At least he would have moved elegantly instead of just being this, you should be this austere henchman who deprives himself to be stronger. But no, they had that line. And then I literally don't remember what happened to him. Just the implication. He was the one who got he was the one who got Bond's spear gun.
Speaker: Oh, the point. Yeah. Yes. ah Point. But yeah, I thought Fiona was awesome. I love that there was a sharpshooter. She seemed like a shark. She was so motivated. um i've loved that it seemed like she had agency when she was honeypotting these dudes. It wasn't just...
Speaker: It wasn't like from Russian with love where the Bond girl was the honeypot kind of reluctantly. yeah In Goldfinger, Pussy Galore, he literally is like, go get dressed up and honeypot him. Almost quite literally says that. Yeah. yeah And then she seems to be doing it because she knows it's an effective way to get what she wants. So...
Speaker: I feel like she was one of the few cases, her and Domino. I was like, oh, there's two non-assaults here. Nicely done. This is a record. You know, I think it's very interesting and worth telling. Just to make the big one.
Speaker: a slight spoiler here. I think the women were the best part of this movie, hands down. Like, not even close. um So now we get to the theme song and i you may have noticed me smiling off and on through this. I'm very afraid to talk about what I think of this theme song because I know that Christian loves it so much.
Speaker: I. wait, wait. wait lot huh it I was just a way. Go ahead. OK, I thought it started off super strong and super fun.
Speaker: And then it fell off. And by the end, I was like, you're not doing anything different. You did the opening. He did the opening half, or the opening third of the song three times. And then was like, by the time I got to the end, I was like, why? This is...
Speaker: I, yeah, it wasn't good. Not only did I not like it in the moment, by the end of the movie, I completely forgot what the song sounds like. And I still right now cannot understand, cannot and bring it to my head. I will say, I do remember thinking, oh, Tom Jones is killing it.
Speaker: And then I was like, Tom Jones is just being Tom Jones. Tom Jones is not like expressing his musicality. just being upm Tom Jones. I gave it a 5.5. It is the lowest rated bond theme song that we've done so far.
Speaker: What you got cat? Listen, I respect the name of Tom Jones, so I give it an eight. but Come on, Kat. Where's that ramekin of lemon juice you're ready to pour on the open wounds Taylor has given me? Nope. I'm with you. Tom Jones is a legend. He is an icon. He is the moment of a certain time. um If it had not been Tom Jones, it would have been a four.
Speaker: Tom Jones gave him a solid one and a half points just because he was Tom Jones. I'm not besmirching Tom Jones as Jones. It's the songwriter. Yeah, as as as the song itself, it was...
Speaker: Tom Jones performed it like Tom Jones would perform it. And by the end of it, I was like, i don't even, what why? What's going on? What are we doing? What's the goal here? What's the goal here?
Speaker: We're talking about James Bond, Taylor. My bad. All Christian, prove me wrong. Are you guys like, do you guys even need to know what number I gave this? Yes. Yes. Because here's the thing. That's the rule. That's the podcast. so that's i'm being so I'm being facetious. Like, Okay, but I will say, though, the part of why I want your number is because I guarantee someone is listening to us right now. Well, I can't guarantee someone's listening now, but I guarantee there is somebody who could conceivably listen to us right now who would be as angry and frustrated with me and Kat for missing the point as thoroughly as Christians. Like, what is wrong with you two?
Speaker: No, I, I need not me. I like Tom Jones. Does it need to be reiterated that I love you guys? Like this is not no like, no, no, no, see no that I don't feel any animosity all. And I do still want your number because I think, yeah, it's good. So I, I did not go hyperbolic like I did with my score for grant in from Russia with love. It's a 10.
Speaker: It is a 10 because yeah on its own, it's a pretty okay song from that era. With the opening credits, which we'll get to, it really hits it up to a 10 because it is thematic. Sorry. It's thematically appropriate, but I'll gush on that later.
Speaker: but i have Appropriate watery word. Also, ladies. um So the other thing I'll say, Christian, is technically oh the opening credits is yours, so you can combine them. You don't have to separate them. Yes. Permission granted.
Speaker: By the powers vested in me as the MC. Yes. So I think that it is a fantastic song. there are There's a lot of repetition in it.
Speaker: I will concede. I think that Goldfinger was a little bit more articulate and a little bit more cat-like. You can't see what Kat's doing. Kat has a stuffed octopus in her, in her arm that she is caressing like Blofeld with his cat. No, I'm listening to Christian. So yes, it, it gets a 10 because it all kind of interweaves. I like that the song is, has a darker tone and it's not just because it's um a male vocalist.
Speaker: It is in a lower key and there are a lot of accents. I am not a music major. I almost was, but I am not. But it feels darker. It feels more melancholic than Goldfinger. Goldfinger hits you over the head and it's like, here's this bad guy. Now we're going to watch Bond kick his butt. But but like this song is like, I think it feeds...
Speaker: largo's personality i think really well it's like here's a guy who does all of these things but like you said taylor he is not afraid to get his hands dirty and i think the song reflects that and i think too the theme the actual like opening credits also being very thematically appropriate and ties in with like the like visual language of the film just because it's like underwater-y but it also captures the visual language well of like those final scenes, those final like action fight scenes.
Speaker: It's, it's a hunter. It's the men are the sharks. The women are the poor, desperate prey in those in the opening sequence anyway. And you have Domino being this poor woman who's been victimized on multiple levels by Largo as kind of I hate saying this, but like Largo thought of her as a prize.
Speaker: It was a prize. She was a means to the end to an end because of her brother being the pilot. I will say that that aspect in in the film in Never Say Never Again is dumb. like the i don't i don't they don't They don't call him Francois in...
Speaker: that film but he's basically fiona's stand-in like gets him hooked on heroin oh geez um dude but it's it's it's sadly more comical especially the way he dies anyway i'm getting way off on a tangent here no but it's a humorous heroin for continue i think overall and it was really well executed it and It wasn't just a woman covered in gold paint with, you know, projection. It wasn't just a belly dancing woman with light projected onto her. It's not a light show that pretending to be Saul Bass. yeah it's it's ah It's a better overall opening credits sequence. i I think there was a lot more care put into it.
Speaker: So what's your rating? What's your number on just the the credits, not the theme song? The credits are an eight. there There were a few things that they probably could have pushed a little further, but I think overall it's an eight. good I mean, honestly, I'm in total agreement with you on the opening credits. I even rated it higher.
Speaker: oh wow I gave it a nine. wow It is. It's dynamic. It's not, like you said, just the static woman's body. It's got... all of the this movement to it. So it's sexy, but it has this element of danger with the harpoon guns coming in.
Speaker: it When I think of James Bond theme songs, or James Bond opening credits, I guess, This is kind of the prototype. It's the blueprint for what it should be. Lots of moving women, lots of scandal, lots of guns. Very clearly naked women too.
Speaker: Yeah. No pasties, no pasties. i gave it a six. I did not like it at all. And what didn't hate it. I just didn't, I didn't do anything for you.
Speaker: i was like, look, we get it. There's naked ladies. We're all very impressed that there are boobs floating around in water. Um, It just was like, okay. I did feel like it was a good step in the direction towards what the Bond opening credits do become. And that needs to be said. i don't think the execution, the execution didn't particularly excite me. And by excite, I mean like, i was like, okay, my my problem with the theme song was my problem with the opening credits. Whereas like ah one idea beaten to death.
Speaker: Naked ladies in water. We got you. Tom Jones being Tom Jones. Got it. What else we got? And there was nothing else to it. It was, it was visually not boring to watch. I didn't think it was like a ah shame or a ah travesty the way they did it. I just didn't.
Speaker: Yeah, whatever. It was a whatever. I mean, this is clearly the one that most inspired the Spy Hard opening. Yes. Which is absolute perfection. so Yes. Spy Hard. not seen Spy Hard.
Speaker: Oh, we got to throw that in this mix. it's quite good. You got to at least watch the opening credits, a weird al game song. Like, come on. Oh, okay. Well, you got me. You got me with weird Al.
Speaker: Yes. Uh, okay. So I guess this was on to the bond performance and I've lost track of who it is. So Kat, I'll make you say it. It's me. Sure. ah
Speaker: Listen, i am so... Every single one of us just went like this and shook our head No, I'm just so tired. Here's what my box says. You ready for this? 6.5 sigh.
Speaker: sigh I'm just tired. I'm tired of him assaulting women. so tired.
Speaker: ah Yeah, that whole spa thing was just unpleasant. I mean, he acted a little bit like a detective there, which I've missed since Dr. No. yeah um He did some snooping. I will say Sean Connery he's one of those wonderful creatures where the older he gets, the better he looks. So good for him.
Speaker: um But it it it did nothing for me. It was just... Some of my least favorite parts of him. And then even the shenanigans went on just too long. I was just born. He said 6.5? 6.5.
Speaker: What do you think, Christian? Well, just the reminder of his... yeah it it As we've gone along, Bonn has become more and more abusive I knocked it down a peg.
Speaker: um It was originally a nine, which is what Connery has been up to now. He's an eight now. Oh, I gave him a five. oof I gave him a five and I gave him a five because he was a bit rapey.
Speaker: And while a bit, if by literally blackmailing for sexual favors. Yeah, I I think that Like I'm looking at my numbers, right? I thought Dr. No, he was a 10. I thought From Russia With Love was an eight.
Speaker: Goldfinger, eight and a half. And then five. And I think that really speaks to the the shift of the character away from what he was, which is a good guy doing ah underhanded dirty things for a very good cause to kind of a dirtbag doing whatever he wants while also, I guess, kind of technically doing his job.
Speaker: I thought that the the sexual assault, the way he treated the women, just in general, completely undersold or undercut all the good stuff he did in the movie, which honestly wasn't a ton anyway.
Speaker: i i felt like it's... Christian said that he felt like he Bond was in his element the whole time. I feel like Bond and that whole thing was always a step behind. and I'm not saying that I'm right necessarily, but I am saying that that was my take. And so having him be a step behind and also sexually assaulting people, i was like, nah.
Speaker: I'm good. I don't need more of this kind of bond. It wasn't charming. it wasn't, it didn't come off as roguish or rakish as it can. Like, especially in gold finger, it came off.
Speaker: Yeah. Like a gold finger when he's with pussy galore. And then he's like, he is like objective, objectively forcing himself in that situation, but he's doing it in a way where it's kind of like, well, I'm going to get you. up Oh, I'm going to get you. up And this one, he was like, you're going do this or going to be in a lot of trouble.
Speaker: Yeah, that that drags it down. Yeah, not good. I gave him a five. I'm going to knock it down. going to knock it down. I think that some of the things that, sorry, I'm going not backpedal. I'm going to add some some more. Sure. um i I feel like the strengths of his performance are his duel, his kind of like cat and mouse, not cat and mouse, his just repartee with Largo.
Speaker: I feel like he was always one step ahead with Largo. But I think overall, you're right. therere It's just not a great performance. And can I also add, there're kate this isn't, are you up will you believe me when I say that this isn't the worst Felix Leiter performance?
Speaker: Oh my gosh. What? Is it not? oh bad This is not the worst one. It was the worst so far, though. know it the worst one The worst one is going to be in ah Living Daylights.
Speaker: Oh, isn't that like your favorite one? No. um Well, Living Daylight says, but thankfully he's not in it very long. Oh, um yeah. But the the thing I will just add tack onto that is that I didn't, the guy had an interesting stage name, but He isn't a bad actor, but he's a very mediocre actor.
Speaker: And the problem is, is when you're a mediocre actor, when you're with a great actor, you look terrible. Yeah. Yes. Yeah, that's pretty fair. i I felt like I was watching someone doing an impression of Gilligan while Sean Connery was being Sean Connery. Felix was terrible in this movie.
Speaker: Yes. Yeah. All right, so we're on to the visual language. ah Christian, take it away. So I know that you were had some strong feelings earlier about the extensiveness of the underwater sequences, which were featured heavily in the action section. I can totally understand that. I can understand that it can just seem to drag on and on and on. And I think that is kind of a prevailing...
Speaker: um criticism of those scenes is that they do kind of drag on and on. I'm, I think I'm overwhelmed by the technical achievement that's involved. I think that like, and just reading about it too, how cavalier a lot of it was, like some of it was, well, we'll just go, we'll film for as long as you can hold your breath.
Speaker: It's like this, the sequence where the sequence where he's ah he's found the, he's found the plane underwater. And he's going up to the cockpit and he's like pulling, you know, he's looking at the mask, pulling the masks off of these supposedly killing them.
Speaker: And like you could see air bubbles coming off and you're like, oh, yeah, these men are holding their breaths like these aren't dummies. um And some of like that cavalier attitude from Mr. Browning.
Speaker: um And his and i' you know I was surprised that you know that much of the film was handed off to another unit, but I'm pretty sure that no one else could have done those at that point in time, in that point in in cinema history.
Speaker: I mean, Jacques Cousteau had more experience, but we're not shooting a ah beautiful documentary about you know subaquatic life. so That is a very fair point. I did not take into consideration the limitations of technology at the time.
Speaker: And there were some good aquatic life shots. I will say that. When it did go into here's the fishes. the The fake out where she her domino gets her flippers, her ankle stuck.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. That was fun. The first interaction. Yeah. Okay. No, i I give it a seven because of that difficulty. Did you ever say your number? I actually don't. No, I didn't. gave it a nine. A nine. Okay.
Speaker: ah nine okay And so Kat was a seven. Yeah. No, I do think that degree of difficulty gets something. Okay. And that's something. I got to say, it's a set I feel like the biggest curmudgeon in the world. I gave it a four.
Speaker: Wow. I just was ah was like, all these shots are the shots are dark, even like outside of the water. Right. Let's look at like all the nighttime shots they did, which was quite a bit of the movie. A lot of it was people running in the dark without a clear direction, without a clear anything. Like, i would say one of the better shot dark scenes is when they're in the car and the the homeless guy walks up with the bottle.
Speaker: That made sense. But then they took off running and then all of a sudden they were back in the dark and it was like form and shape moving, but it was not clear. It wasn't well lit. The underwater scenes were so poorly shot again ah to to what Christian said, though, taking into consideration the the limitations of the time, i think that maybe i would I probably ought to raise it by a whole point of five.
Speaker: You should and you should feel bad about yourself. Feel bad about your opinions, Taylor. I do not. You'll be shocked to hear you two who know me probably better than most anybody else in the entire universe. I never feel bad about my opinions. Eat it. However, i will say i am open to being wrong about it. And I do think that is some good context. I don't think, though, that even the shots, even if I were to, OK, let's fix the lighting and keep the rest of the shot exactly as it is. It's still kind of poorly shot.
Speaker: So I gave it a I'll give it a five. I was at a four. You have convinced me to bump it up to five. I definitely think that there could have been more. i hate shaky cam for the record. I think that there could have been a little more chaos during the parade than there was.
Speaker: But I did like that. Like you mentioned, like going from like them being in the car, who knows so when he's running away with. Yeah, with his blood trail. Wrong leg. Yeah. yeah Oh, real quickly. Can we? just I'm sorry. We need to discuss this. How did James Bond get shot in the left leg and then have it transition to the right leg? And then the next day, there's no bullet when when he's swimming in the ocean.
Speaker: what oh see i wasn't even i wasn't even paying attention to that that bothered me so much that i actually turned to cat in the movie and said that's not the lake he was shot in it bothered me and then the next day he's in the ocean there's not even a bandage come on huh oh i wasn't even paying attention to that called me sexist because i asked if there was a continuity girl and that's right i was like why does it have to be a girl
Speaker: That's true. I did. So fun fact about the cinematographer, by the way, ah he had a son while he was filming this literally in the water. And that son's name was James Cameron.
Speaker: What? What? No, I made it up. Oh my gosh. But wouldn't that would be amazing if that was the lore for why James Cameron is so obsessed with water shots?
Speaker: but And why his dad named him James? it's It works. See? You know what? If we say it enough, AI will believe it and that'll make it true. James Cameron's dad was a cinematographer for Thunderball. we've We've invented this truth. James Cameron was born on the set of Thunderball.
Speaker: Yeah, in the water while James Bond was swinging by. It's a little murky in here now. What's going on over there? Oh, it's a placenta. Speaking of things that happen in the ocean, like I can't imagine how awful that would have been.
Speaker: oh literally. OK, so Taylor, take us to the Bond girl so we can talk about that scene. Okay. ah I need to say that my scoring of the Bond girl does not include that scene as consideration because i just didn't think about it.
Speaker: I gave her a nine. And I gave her a nine because the whole time she seemed like she was going through it. She was not afraid of the fact she was going through it.
Speaker: And she took that anger and she shot that guy right in the back. And it was the most satisfying bond death up to this point. Easily. The but Bond villain death, I should say. she shot in the back, I was like, yes! So earned, so well done, and so cathartic that she shot the guy in the back. Delicious. Especially because Bond was like overpowered and about to die.
Speaker: i loved it. I really liked this Bond girl a lot. And like I said before, the women of this movie were by far the best part of it for me. And what did she say when they were on the beach? She's like, what can he take that he, or what can he do to me that he's not already taken?
Speaker: Yes. Like she, yeah. Like you a desperate woman. Yeah. Fully committed. I loved it. I thought she was great. I gave her an emotional core of this movie. Yes, absolutely. Now the question of a coitus in the ocean, how awful That's not healthy. Truly awful. No, no. and Immediately, they would have been like, this isn't capable of working.
Speaker: I didn't know. But they needed a funny scene where they're talking about, oh, but we might have scared the fish. Oh, my gosh. Or something like that. That so dumb. That's exactly what it was. i'd say this Yeah. All right. So I gave her a nine.
Speaker: Cat. Listening to you, I actually did bump her up. I originally gave her a six. um Again, just because I felt many things in this movie were so one note.
Speaker: And also, I mean, for the very first, I don't know, a third of her presence in the movie, i her and Fiona kept kind of getting... it took a while to discern.
Speaker: All white people look the same to me. They do. Especially women. But I thought she was... Really pretty. i thought that sex scene was offensive and abysmal, but I am raising her up to a seven because one, I love that at least it wasn't a coerced sex scene.
Speaker: Yeah. And two, I agree with her like full higher point because she killed Largo herself. And that was, oh, that just felt good. And right. It's like what I wish a honey writer had done.
Speaker: oh yeah. And it was good seeing someone do that. Yeah. Yeah. How awesome would that have been if like she had like Honey Rider had like picked up the knife from the table and like so stabbed one of the henchmen before. Anyway. exactly Yeah. And if that had happened, watching Dr. No be so cold about it would have raised him up for me as well. Past the point where his stupid mental hands didn't fully ruin him for me.
Speaker: He couldn't hold on to the pole. They were slipping. My hands are incapable. of Oh, I don't know why I'm doing a chairman accent for a half Chinese man. Actually, I do know why, because if I did a half Chinese accent, that would be bad. Very bad.
Speaker: Christian, how did you think the Bond girl did? Well, you know, having heard you guys talk about it, I actually raised her up a point. um Because, and re, I kind of skimmed through the movie. I would,
Speaker: I would skip, I skimmed through the movie right before we had this discussion and I'm like, Oh yeah, she did get her revenge. Like she shot him in the back. There were a few points where I felt like she was perhaps unjustifiably anemic.
Speaker: However, like, is it wrong of me to bring biology into it? It's like Largo is a very large man who can easily overpower, a woman of that size it's so i think that kind of makes sense i i mean i just want to jump in and say i think that's part of why a lot of women i know are constantly in fear because they know that like men can just overpower them because of biology it's a terrifying thing it you know yes thank heavens for external genitalia that's all i have to say
Speaker: It does make us better. I agree. Anyway, you were going. we haven'td No, it makes you have a soft spot. that we tell You know what? Continue. I was going to say, like we haven't gotten any of those yet. I think we don't get those until the Roger Moore era.
Speaker: The nut shots. Oh, geez. I was like, external genitalia? I'm pretty sure it's all over the place in these movies. I i think, i think i like I said, i was i would like my wires were getting crossed. I think that, obviously...
Speaker: yeah i think everything that you've talked about is you know good i think that she's not well she's not as adventurous independent as honey rider was hu i think that like overall she's not so she's not a bimbo she's not a stupid bimbo like she's intelligent like she has all of those things going for her and then that that pivotal moment where bonds i have you know i'm going i have to hurt you again which is a terrible thing to say but yeah yeah that was at least he yes so yeah seven yeah by the way another fun little thing how is it they jumped off the boat and there was a third guy with him and as soon as they're in the water he just like vanished like seafoam they left him to die they gave him ah the life ring and that was it
Speaker: The sign and like they left him to. Yeah, they did. They jumped in the water, immediately got into a boat and they're like, didn't even talk about it. Wasn't he like, where is he? it was just where's that guy? He he did. yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah he just oh yeah yeah Well, it's just like how all of the other henchmen other than Fiona were, to use your word, anemic. Like everyone else who helps them.
Speaker: Do they bring it up again? No. Leiter sucks. Paula dies off really without that much fanfare. yeah Other guy.
Speaker: Did he get a name? i don't even know if he did. he He said both of their names, but it's the blonde guy. Now that I'm remembering Vargas. Vargas. Yes. Vargas. What does Vargas passion is? he does not Every man has his vice.
Speaker: But yeah, both sides, the assistant characters were not yeah very memorable. yeah Yeah. So here we are at the tail end of all 10 of these bad boys here. Kat, what is your total score for Thunderball?
Speaker: My total score 64.5.
Speaker: oh Strangely enough, not the lowest. I apparently really hated. It's a 0.5 higher than from Russia with love. Apparently, in you were unaware that you hated it.
Speaker: Apparently, I just you would have thought Thunderball would have been lower because, I mean, it was more boring, but it had a great theme song and opening.
Speaker: so Christian, what's yours? Mine was at 57.5, but after bumping up that one score, ah it is now at 58.5, which ties for my least, my lowest score, which interestingly was Dr. No.
Speaker: i ah If you had asked me if where I ranked this, Thunderball was my least favorite we've watched so far. I didn't enjoy it at all. But to see the scores, and it's the same level as Dr. No, is kind of shocking. I will say that it was saved because of some things that it absolutely nailed. Again, the one-liners, the villain, and ah the Bond girl. And I think this kind of highlights the the beauty of James Bond, which is you can have a terrible Bond movie that's still got some real redemption to be found in it.
Speaker: Definitely. have to say, too, Dr. noe was for me. comparison Yeah, there you go. it it was I liked Dr. No, but there were like you said, there were too many things that drug it down.
Speaker: All it takes is one really crappy cinematography score and your entire total is skewed. That's true. It's part of the fun of this.
