Thousands of people undergo anesthesia every day, but what actually happens after you count backward from 10?

In this episode of On Call, April and Alicia are joined by Noele Morse, CRNA, Chief Anesthetist Officer, and Sarah Garber, MD, Associate Chief Physician Officer for Sound Anesthesia, for an inside look at one of healthcare's most misunderstood specialties.

From preparing for surgery and managing preoperative anxiety to anesthesia safety, recovery, and common patient questions, Noele and Sarah pull back the curtain on what anesthesia professionals do before, during, and after a procedure. Whether you're counting down the days until a procedure, supporting a loved one going under, or a clinician looking to better understand the world of anesthesia, tune in for practical insights, reassurance, and advice straight from the anesthesiologist's mouth.

In honor of APP Week, September 21-25, April and Alicia give us a closer look at what they do as—and what they went through to become—advanced practice providers (APPs). As a physician assistant (PA) and nurse practitioner (NP) respectively, our hosts tackle questions about the education, training, certifications, collaboration, and ongoing learning that supports their work as caregivers and leaders. Whether you've worked alongside an APP, received care from one, or just always wondered what all these acronyms mean, tune in and celebrate APP Week with On Call.

What's an APP, anyway?
