Podcast Overview and Setting Introduction

00:00:47
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, a D&D 5th edition actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I'm your dungeon master, Eric.
00:00:54
Speaker
And I'm Philip. I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. And welcome to another episode. Gentlemen, what happened last time?

Mission Briefing: Horn Acquisition

00:01:02
Speaker
We, uh, we met with the ambassador, uh, or not the ambassador, the governor of, um, The word pilas is in it, but I don't remember what the other word of the town's name is.
00:01:21
Speaker
And it's probably in my notes somewhere. I mean, you know, I'm not going to say it. Angkor Palat. He lost Talair. Talair. Okay. Yeah, we met with her. That's true. Yep. We also met with the, uh, the, the everlasting, uh,
00:01:44
Speaker
Undying. Yes. The Undying Court. The Undying Court. And we got a horn that will negate a bunch of magic that would be bad for us.

Strategic Challenges with the Horn

00:01:55
Speaker
And taking that into consideration, Eric or Beric jumped off the boat before we could blow the horn and negate any of the magic. That's true.
00:02:06
Speaker
or do any kind of planning or the horn that takes the horn that takes three people that we can't instruct or talk to the others about really. So we'll figure that out. The horn requires three people. Yes, it requires the three heroes to hold one below. That was that was what they told us. I don't remember that at all. That was explicitly the instructions given.
00:02:29
Speaker
Well, that's silly. I mean, I'm sure that we can talk Rickard into holding it, without explaining much else, just be like, here, hold this. See? Y'all got this. Jeez.

Encounter with a Dragon

00:02:43
Speaker
Okay, so yeah, as was alluded to, we left things off with Barrick jumping off the boat. Which leads me to this question.
00:02:52
Speaker
Where are we? Cause I guess, I mean, I'm assuming Phillip was assuming we were a lot closer to things than I thought we were. So like, are we over this, this, this, this land that you were describing for us? Yeah. You had started flying over. Definitely where I thought we were. Yeah. No joke. That's where you thought we were, but you thought we could do the whole tour with two people. So then for not, I'd like to reconsider certain actions. Well, um,
00:03:20
Speaker
Yeah so you all had flown over Thal Otharil and Thal Eledar and didn't see anything and then when you circle back to fly over Valen's Isle in a patch of
00:03:35
Speaker
forest, you saw the dragon erupt. So basically you all are on the southern coast. The dragon erupted, guys, we're fine. It's in pieces. You're along the southern coast of Valen's Isle, probably a couple hundred feet up in the air. Okay, so it's horn blowing time. He jumped off the thing and we got to negate some magic. Go ahead, sorry. And the dragon is between us and the ground? The dragon is on the ground. Okay, so you are above the dragon. Yes.
00:04:06
Speaker
And the ground is below the dragon, so you're not wrong. That is true. I thought the dragon was in the air also. No, it had reared up from the trees, had not taken flight yet. Okay, so yeah, Beric is falling. What are you all doing?
00:04:25
Speaker
watching Barrick fall. OK, there's a there's a moment of stunned silence, but I'm whatever it takes to unclasp this case and get this horn out, because if he's going, we need to negate this magic lest it kill him. Yeah, Booyah is going to run for feather fall packs, pass them out to everybody just in case.
00:04:45
Speaker
Okay, so while Dex is getting the horn uncased and convincing Rickard and Jace to, or Orianna, to just lend a hand, do not ask questions. Hold it, just hold it, hold it. So Booyah, you're running back up with the Featherfall packs, and I mean, they've got a hold of it, so if you want to... And Dex takes in a big lungful of air, and he goes,
00:05:16
Speaker
It was going to be killing that. I hate you. Okay. Is that better? Is that a better joke for you? No, that was not, that was not better. I love the nineties bull crap. Uh, we're, we're covering a couple of minutes of time for, uh, Dex and Booyah. So Eric,

Diplomacy and Conflict with the Dragon

00:05:36
Speaker
what's your game plan? Um, a couple of minutes. He's going to get eaten. Isn't it? It's a game plan.
00:05:49
Speaker
So since the dragon's not in the air, as I thought it was. Due to the picture erupting as like upward motion. That's OK, though. Because he's Beric, that's why it's OK. I mean, also, I've kind of committed to the jumping off. So it has been done. Yeah.
00:06:19
Speaker
OK, so what I'm going to do is I'm going to fall towards and I would like to try and guide myself towards the dragon as I fall. OK. Yeah, you're able to point your body and angle it in such a way to where you're falling towards the dragon and you see the figures going into the forest coming more and more into focus as what do I recognize them?
00:06:46
Speaker
Now that you're getting closer, they appear to be sorrows. Okay. That's kind of what Phillip thought. So creepy pale skin, giant mouthed, hollow eyes, and different varying body types. Have we seen these? Yeah. It's a mixture of the ones that attempted to drag Beric through the portal, well, successfully did, and a mixture of the ones that showed up and then went away.
00:07:15
Speaker
So here's a question. Uh, as I fall towards the dragon, what am I seeing when I look at the dragon? Because Berica sees, you know, life force we kind of landed on. Um, but you described the dragon as kind of missing part of its face and it's part of its skull showing. Yeah. So you, um, you see, um,
00:07:39
Speaker
I mean, necromantic energy, like, yeah, I mean, so you can still see it. It's just. Gross, I mean, it's undead magic. Sure, sure. OK. Then in that case.
00:08:05
Speaker
Once I get close enough to the ground to become uncomfortable, I want to expend some key to use my hand of force ability, which is equivalent to the Big B's hand spell.
00:08:35
Speaker
Uh, and I want to use the hand to essentially slow my descent and catch myself. Okay. So, um, yeah, I mean, you're, you are able to do that. Um, okay. Uh, and once within shouting distance.
00:09:05
Speaker
of the dragon once you once you get on the ground we've caught up timeline so uh yeah so so barrick has blown on barrick jeez dex has blown on the horn and then immediately runs over to the side of the ship and looks down to see if if what what changes or any visible indication that this thing has actually worked
00:09:27
Speaker
So, yeah, as you're landing on the ground, you you can see kind of through the trees and stuff. You see these sorrow sworn running up with their weapons. And like there's almost like a barrier around the dragon as like it's clear that it's feeling pain, but not taking damage, if that makes any sense. And then from way up above you, you hear a.
00:09:52
Speaker
I was very clear how it sounds. That was really impressive. That was good. That was a very good sound. It was wildly inaccurate, but it was a good sound. And look at that waveform. We call it a blob in my letter, where somebody stained my monitor. But, Barak, you see all of a sudden one of these sorrowsworn swing their weapon as the sound is erupting.
00:10:19
Speaker
and you see it tear some flesh away from the dragon's side and at this point it recoils and flaps its wings and begins to draw back now that it's clearly something like this horn has caused its protective barrier to drop. At this point
00:10:39
Speaker
Um, so the sorrow sworn were tormenting the dragon. It was causing it pain, but not causing it damage. Feels like torment. Yeah. But that's what I'm saying. They're not in cahoots. No. Okay. No, no, no. I mean, I know Dex doesn't see this, but it's going too soon. You've passed out the feather fall packs. Um, so what's the plan on Urals in now that the horn has, have Doth been blown? Does Dex see an indication that something has changed on the ground? The dragon is starting to take off. Okay. I feel there's something I have to declare.
00:11:09
Speaker
Okay. Having a feather paw pack, Orianna obviously jumps off of the ship. Yeah, that's fair. Without waiting to consult anyone, because that's obviously what Orianna does. I mean, it specifically, especially, specifically, shut up, especially in that case, then I guess as soon as especially, but I
00:11:31
Speaker
I'm just no I'm not that also also that but no I'm just trying to figure out I'm gonna move this here so if if Dex saw a something different because I see the force field around the dragon earlier and now it's gone no you you because there wasn't even a physical force field it's just the bear got close up to see the fact the weapons weren't
00:11:50
Speaker
Finding purchase with dragon and then all of a sudden some flesh started getting terror torn away So it's not like there was a shimmery so I don't see anything assume Here's what I'm jumping off anyway, cuz he has an hour on it has but I wonder if Dex knows horn worked while he's falling. I Know no visual representation of anything has happened. That's what I'm getting at doesn't matter. I'm off the boat I'm floating down. I say Rickard you to jaste. I guess it's your call man.
00:12:17
Speaker
Booyah, stay here, guard chip.

Emerald Claw and Sorrow Sworn Conflict

00:12:19
Speaker
I
00:12:20
Speaker
Well, in that case, Jason's jumping. No, Booyah, as soon as he sees Ariana jump off the boat, he's going. OK, so yeah, Rickard also. She used one. She's worn one. Has she used one? Not on audio as far as I know. Oh, man. I'm going to have to catch her and push the catch up to her, push the button. She has she has some decks.
00:12:47
Speaker
Um, she has one who's going to help her who's shifting his body to be more aerodynamical to catch up to her. Um, okay. Yeah. Just like we've done before. Everybody, uh, give me a dexterity check. If you've used a feather fall before, uh, you have advantage. Orianna has disadvantage. Is it acrobatics?
00:13:07
Speaker
Did we? I think we just did a straight up dexterity. You did dexterity. I just threw in the backflip flavor because I was new to the game and stupid. Yeah. I'm no longer new to the game. Here comes the backflips. Is it a saving throw? Yeah, I think we did it as a saving throw. Yeah. Twenty seven. Twenty seven. OK. Remind me, a saving throw is modifier plus proficiency. Yes. OK, dude, it's minimum I can get to 30.
00:13:38
Speaker
You can roll one and get a 30. I go out to 10. Oh, so I guess it's 20, pardon me. But let's just do this. I rolled a one advantage though, I rolled a nine, so 29.
00:13:52
Speaker
And what are we going to get? Sorry. Twenty five. OK, so yeah, everybody is able to land near Beric. But yes, before they do, because as soon as he got with inhaling distance of the dragon, Beric wants to talk to the dragon. OK, so are you shouting the reason he jumped off before all of his friends with sharp objects jump down and tried to kill the dragon? Yeah.
00:14:18
Speaker
Because he's impetuous? He just thinks we want to kill everything. No. No. Yeah. Do your thing. So first off, Beric slows his descent just enough and then lands to the degree that it's possible between the dragon and the sorrow sworn.
00:14:40
Speaker
Uh, he turns and he's going to hail the dragon in Draconic, which yes, I speak. Um, yeah. And he's going to say, uh, Indoor County says, uh, what I'm now creating as the Draconic equivalent of we come in peace. Uh, we be of one blood, you and I. Um,
00:15:12
Speaker
the dragon as it's kind of flapping its wings up and away. It says, that's clearly not true. And pivots its head to look at you and it's a stark visage of like the top right quarter of the skin of its skull being removed. And it lets out a bellowing. Oh, what? Trying to think of how he how he would phrase this.
00:15:49
Speaker
You tell me what draconic sounds like. It could absolutely sound like an air horn. It could, theoretically. Dinosaurs spoke in whistles. Some of them did, the ones with the big hollow horns on their heads.
00:16:12
Speaker
What? I paid a lot of attention to the Natural History Museum in third grade. Okay. Last time I paid attention to anything. The dragon turns its head to you and begins kind of shifting its flight backwards in your direction and bellows
00:16:32
Speaker
if you serve my line or that of my daughter, then protect me. And like the ground rumbles as it lands next to you as the sorrow sworn hip clearly followed the dragon and now lay eyes on you. Fan art, please. At this point, I'm gonna say timeline's converging. When Dex looks at the fan art, is he gonna think, oh, fill up with the dragon, we're on the same side now.
00:17:01
Speaker
The dragon is clearly non-threatening towards Beric at this point. You fought a dragon, so you know what that looks like. Also, as soon as the dragon has acted non-threateningly, Beric touches the sending stone and says, don't attack the dragon.
00:17:18
Speaker
So the sorrows for an all turn and lock onto your now group convening. The last time Beric said something right before an altercation over the Sydney Stone that confused Dex, we knocked out a blacksmith. So let's see what happens. I will admit, don't attack the dragon is a much more clear instruction than it's trance.
00:17:46
Speaker
um so yeah the sars for an all turn and look at you all standing next to this undead dragon um because you don't know what else you would call it and they all in unison pull up their left hand and point and then all of their jaws begin to drop
00:18:06
Speaker
disturbingly low and this cacophonous high-pitched whale just begins piercing your ears as you see black slits in the sky above them open up and you see more sorrow sworn pour out. I thought it was going to be those big whale things. No, no, no. You see more sorrow sworn pour out
00:18:31
Speaker
But floating above them, you see a woman with pale skin float in with long black inky robes.

The White Raven's Arrival

00:18:40
Speaker
What?
00:18:44
Speaker
Well, I hope you guys are buckled in for the next five episodes of this fight. At the same time. No, please. A lot's happening. We need more. You all hear much smaller horns blowing from behind you. And you hear the, who speaks Draconic? Uh-uh.
00:19:14
Speaker
How many languages does Beric speak now? Is it many? Is it four? Six? A dollar? I don't think it's... It is... Five including common. Common elven giant draconic goblin. Yeah, I've got five. You'll get there one day. You have five too!
00:19:35
Speaker
What do Rose get to do? Attack once. I got some of those through feats. Attack once, no two languages, not seeing the dark. That's what I can do. What's your perception? Yeah, I got it. How fast are you? What was the minimum dexterity roll you were able to make?
00:19:53
Speaker
Look, it's got some perks. The speed thing, I think that was all things I've picked up, actually. Okay, so you all hear horns up above you, and as I'm presuming some of you would turn to look, Beric, you hear the dragon say, she answered the call. And you see two airships flying in,
00:20:22
Speaker
and coming down low. And you see figures beginning to disembark, hanging off the side, wearing tabards with a green hand on the chest. But you see, standing on the helm, kind of with a dramatic air about him, a figure with a cloak bellowing in the wind that's dressed resplendently head to toe in white. Dex just goes, hell yeah. It's Dex from the future. Oh, no.
00:20:52
Speaker
And he is wearing what two of you would remember as a very distinct white raven's mask, holding on to the the rigging stuff. And he proclaims, we are here to save the day and begins to slide down a rope onto the ground.
00:21:15
Speaker
Uh, but something that you all can note at this point, um, there's about, I would say three to four dozen, uh, Emerald Claw soldiers. Um, which, what is that? The green, the tabernacle hand that you encountered before. I also thought they were called the green hand. No, I understand those are synonyms. I am not a complete idiot, but there are a lot of things happening right now. Um, you also, uh, everyone give me a,
00:21:46
Speaker
Perception check, except for Dex. You see it. OK, fair. I can get a 20. OK, go for it. 19. 21. OK. Um.
00:22:04
Speaker
You all also see amongst the soldiers and mercenaries, as this is all kind of happening simultaneously, a fairly young looking elf woman in robes run. She seems to be running towards the dragon.
00:22:22
Speaker
but you would put her at- What's the look on her face? Concern, okay. You would put her at anywhere, I mean, she's an elf, so 12 to 16, like, kind of- 12 to 6,000. So quite young. Is she by herself running? I mean, she's with everybody. She came on one of these ships. Okay, may I recap? More of the shadow board. A lot more. A lot more.
00:22:52
Speaker
opening from rifts in the sky. Well, I mean, they started to open up in the sky. Yes, they are plainer rifts. Also with the raven. Yes, they are clearly here to kill at the very minimum Beric and the dragon. Green hand. People emerald claw. Show up. Not really sure who they're here to fight.
00:23:17
Speaker
not us but presumably they seem to be here for the green dragon but here to kill the green dragon no no here like he as soon as those ships came he said oh that she answered my call they appear to be non-threatening to you in the same way the dragon is non-threatening also one might describe the dragon's foot as an emerald claw

Alliances and Betrayals

00:23:39
Speaker
I gotta go. I gotta go. I don't know how I didn't. I'm sorry. This is big. This is not little. This is big. It's been such a long week. How did I not? There's a thousand listeners. One Arabian Nights. I'm so sorry that I'm an idiot. You guys are used to it, but sometimes it still catches me by surprise.
00:24:05
Speaker
So that's part of what makes this so fun. Yeah. So I'm having a good time. I'm done building the set piece for now. So react like speak amongst yourselves or make proclamations do what you will. Eric is now sort of torn between emotions at the appearance of someone in a bird mask. Mm hmm.
00:24:33
Speaker
Uh, but also just entirely flabbergasted by the appearance of what I assume he recognizes to be the Raven. Yes, you would recognize her and we've seen her too now, right? Didn't we all see her with the flame when barracks spoke to her when we were down, saw her. I think it was just a voice. Yeah, it was just the voice.
00:24:50
Speaker
Okay, but Dex is gonna go ahead and assume that. Dex is intelligent enough to get this. At least somebody is. It is a fantasy world, so Dex is intelligent enough to pick up on it. Great. Cool. You guys are two of my closest friends. Wow. I guess one of the first things I'm gonna do is I'm gonna let the dragon know. He saw us come down, so I don't need to say we're with Beric. That'd be dumb.
00:25:21
Speaker
I don't know, I feel like I just start hitting the things that tried to steal Barrick last time we saw him. Well, there are about a million of them, I get it. Well, and they're also about 80 to 100 feet away, which I know you could close that distance fairly quickly, but you would be all alone. But aren't there some, wait, so how far away are from Barrick and the dragon? You're with Barrick and the dragon. And the dragon got up and flew over to Barrick. Flew over to Barrick, flew away from the, yes.
00:25:47
Speaker
superhero scene. I've been dragging behind Barrick. You guys dropped from the sky. And we all stand up dragging behind us. The Avengers score swells in the background. At all.
00:26:02
Speaker
But yes, gonna he can shoot and fire if they're threatening and they're coming at us. I mean, they aren't moving at you. They they literally froze and pointed. And now it seems to be they're making rank kind of thing like they're not coming at you yet. And I'm going to ready an action to shoot if they do come.
00:26:20
Speaker
I can't imagine a universe in where Dex doesn't pull out Leliana. If we're all lined up against another line of forces, I'm going to obliterate them with a wall of fire.
00:26:37
Speaker
Um, the Raven, uh, the Sorrow Sworn are still coming out of it. Um, yeah. Um, they probably outnumber you at this point, three, three or four to one at this point. Um, and the Raven floats above them and lands like 20 feet in front of their front line. Um, looking at all of you, um,
00:27:05
Speaker
with a wry smirk on her face. So are actions allowed at this moment? Not structured actions, no. Okay. We're still in a narrative scene. Eric comes back up to his feet from whatever stance he actually managed to land in.
00:27:31
Speaker
Uh, and he sort of, um, lifts and clinches his left fist and the air around it sort of swirls with that energy. Uh, and he reaches out his right hand and Erebus materializes out of the air. Okay. If you want to go ahead and give me, uh, Barrick and Oriana's initiative for Barrick, that will be 17, uh, for Oriana, only 12.
00:28:01
Speaker
You want to go and give me initiative role? We're not starting initiative yet, but sure. What do you got? 25. No, sorry, 24, 24. Yes, 23. Oh, all right. Don't run. Don't run too close to him. You'll get fireball banished, banished to Raven. Oh, my God. Surely I bet she's got she's I mean, she's almost certainly got legendary resistances. Oh, yes.
00:28:28
Speaker
Oh, just because he has it and he's scared, Dex did definitely enact his Ioonstone. Which still has yet to catch a spell, so...
00:28:40
Speaker
Really excited. Of course, it only catches spells up to fourth level, and we are so far past that with these enemies. And I guess in this interim, I don't know if you're rolling for initiative, but I guess in this interim, Dex would definitely try to get clarification on where these green guys came from or these green, white guys with the green hand, white, peppered green hand. Dan, where, where, where the heck? I mean, the white ravens running up, so you can kind of turn and ask him. Dex looks like Lyle.
00:29:09
Speaker
So he would recognize you. So he says, hey, no hard feelings. So what it really looks like right now, it just occurs to me is the last time the White Raven saw us, you were dressed entirely differently. And so it looks like since I've been buying this style, you've gradually been putting together a White Raven costume.
00:29:29
Speaker
Can I have your autograph? You say no hard feelings, and as long as you don't continue to cramp my style, I suppose we can bygones be bygones. Dax says, no, what daresweet you and me is, I make this look good. He stabs you. That's fair. Not stabbing back, I guess. But will y'all look best? Where'd you get this tiny warforged?
00:29:58
Speaker
out of a crackerjack box. Oh. We got to kick some both in the shin. He stabbed you. OK, goes to Tink. So. I forgot to put Orianna where she needs to be. She needs to be in shore.

Shadar Kai Reinforcements

00:30:20
Speaker
A roet. Pardon me. We tried. I mean, Eric tried. I don't feel like any of the rest of you tried.
00:30:27
Speaker
Well, Dex is a pragmatist. He knew how it was going to end. He turns to you and I received word that the dragon may be in trouble and we thought we would come help, but it seems that our purposes are allied right now.
00:30:49
Speaker
It is definitely, I mean, it has certainly not escaped Dex that if it comes to having to eventually kill this dragon, now we're boned because we have this army again, like and a dragon. So Dex is hoping for a less lethal solution to this packed handover. The Raven comes out of her smirk and addresses you all and
00:31:17
Speaker
My army is too great. Too powerful. It is done. Give me what I came for. And there need not be bloodshed. There need not be unnecessary death. I don't buy that for a second. Is that in character? No. No, Dex is smart.
00:31:48
Speaker
No, Dex is not going to talk back to her Barak. Barak has to. Barak's face just sort of lifts a little bit and the mask looks up at her. Come take it.
00:32:12
Speaker
Dex wants to high five Derek. OK, Booyashu now. Spell saving throws. The DC is proficiency lumped into that figure. Yes. OK, so the saving there goes from 16 to 17. Very cool. One of these days I'll learn what the math is. But not as long as I can just ask Philip and Eric.
00:32:48
Speaker
Just so you guys know, I wrote like two more verses of that song in my head without singing it out loud. During all of that ensuing silence in my head, I was like, why do work when others have done it for you? We can go ahead and do initiative. So, Booyai, you are first up.
00:33:19
Speaker
OK, and the creatures are how far away? The raven is, let's say, 60 feet away. The front line of the star of sworn is 80 feet.
00:33:37
Speaker
And we've seen these things move before they're in our life. What causes initiative to start, just so we have kind of a clear button, is after Barak has his wonderful line, the Raven kind of raises her right hand and motions forward and the Sorrowsworn take their first step to begin marching towards you all. And there's still Sorrowsworn coming out of the portals. They're definitely Lumberers, right? That's something we knew. They're not as fast as, like, they're not coming 30 feet.
00:34:04
Speaker
I just wondering, I want to know if they're running at us or if they're lumbering towards us. They are marching. Okay. Booyah, Booyah, what you gonna do? Booyah is going to
00:34:32
Speaker
point 30 feet towards the direction of the dragon, kind of in front of the dragon or get in position to be where he's close enough. And he points his finger at the ground in front of the dragon and a large spectral guardian appears and hovers in that space. Okay.
00:34:56
Speaker
Anything that, uh, moves to a space within 10 feet of the guardian for the first time on a turn has to succeed on a dexterity saving throw where they're going to take 20 radiant half on a failed save. Okay. And it just looks like this gleaming sword with the shield emblazoned with the silver flame. Nice. Very cool.
00:35:23
Speaker
Okay. Um, it is now Texas turn. Okay. 20 foot radius sphere. How many of these guys are going to be inside of that?
00:35:37
Speaker
I got 150 feet of range, so I can get past the front line if there's more of them having to be jumbled up. I mean, 20 foot sphere, I would say you can take out a dozen of them. Okay. I mean, I know that's not a lot, but it's better than zero of them. So they have to make a dexterity saving throw as Dex pulls out Lelyana and says, Hello, old friend, I need for you to light these bad guys on fire for me, please. Okay.
00:36:05
Speaker
Yeah. We have a very, I mean, you know, it's a very business like association she and I have. We're not like that other guy in his sword. So, deck saving throw. Okay. I assume they all have the same, like you're not rolling 12 times, right? No, no, no.
00:36:32
Speaker
And they're all varying forms, but they're all the same shadow sworn. Like there's not sorrow, sorrow sworn. There's not other baddies around. It's just them and the Raven are correct. Yeah. There are, um, there are, I think four, four or five different forms of them. Sure. Um, but they all look to be of the same ilk. Um, that's on the edge. 14. That is a, that is not a safe. Okay. So they take some damage. They're going to take.
00:37:08
Speaker
These were not good rolls It's not great 39 points of fire damage all 12 of them
00:37:25
Speaker
OK, yeah, I mean, you just you hold up lately on it and just this like concentrated bit of fire just grows and grows and then launches and kind of arcs through the sky and just lands amongst a mass of them and kind of explodes and you see bodies kind of fly and they continue to march forward.
00:37:47
Speaker
uh did we get an idea are we talking thousands tens of thousands hundreds don't like i said the the march out of the portal has not ceased right at this point she has clearly been amassing an army right in her downtime um
00:38:06
Speaker
The Raven kind of watches this explosion behind her. And when she turns back, um, her eyes have gone completely like beyond black, just like Vantablack darkest depths, uh, devoid of anything. Um, Dex, I need a charisma saving throw. Well, I'm afraid you're not going to get one. There's a saving throw. You got it.
00:38:36
Speaker
That's a six, natural two. Well, one of you two is gonna get hit by a ribbon weave, apparently. I hope it's just the ribbon weave. Yeah, you...
00:39:07
Speaker
You just get her like you kind of get it. Like she's had this power for a long time. She's been on this quest for a long time and like kind of crappy that barracks just kind of tried to step on her thunder all of a sudden and like it's bad. So you're, you're charmed by her now. Um, you can make a saving throw if she deals any damage to you. Um,
00:39:40
Speaker
And, but not if any of the other guys do. Cause I get her. So I know they're working for her and I'm on their side now. Um, yeah, I'm going to say if you take damage from any, anybody on that side of the battlefield, you'll get another saving throw. Cool. Uh, but for now, for the next minute, you're charmed by her. So, um, yeah. Um, Barrett.
00:40:09
Speaker
And your Dex's eyes also go like darkest depths black. But as far as they know, I'm just mocking her by doing that to myself. But also there's literally nothing Barrett can do about that. Right. So. Bonus action, Hexblade's curse on the Raven. She's still on the ground. Yep.
00:40:38
Speaker
Okay. How far away? 80 feet from you or 60, 60. I'm sorry. Okay. Okay. Well, I'm going to move up 30 feet. Okay. Uh, and then I'm going to launch a guiding bolt at her.
00:41:09
Speaker
Um. The same. Uh, 21. 21. Mm hmm. That is a hit. Huzzah.
00:41:38
Speaker
She's on the ground. She landed. OK. But now. She takes 28 points of radiant damage.
00:42:03
Speaker
And I will also cause her to become vulnerable to radiant damage. The classic ability. How long does that? It doesn't actually have a time limitation on it in my notes.
00:42:28
Speaker
Okay. Because I know one guy who's not going to be doing a lot of radiant damage to her for about a minute. Uh, yeah. Cause it's never been an issue. Cause everything that you use that ability on has been dead within like five seconds. Yeah. We'll call it a minute just to keep things across the board the same. Okay. Make a note of that for future reference. Uh, I will. Yes. I will add that. Uh, and I think that's what I have. Yeah.
00:42:56
Speaker
Okay. Um. The dragon next to you. Um.
00:43:07
Speaker
kind of rears back and then like you see his long snake-like neck undulate a little bit and you all don't understand what he says. Barak you hear very loudly from behind you just a voice shout forward and the guys in the tabards begin to shout and bang their shields and they start sprinting past Barak towards the Sorrowsworn.
00:43:39
Speaker
Orianna would like to move up her speed, which is 40 feet. How far away does that put her from one of the rifts?
00:43:54
Speaker
The rifts are at the very back of their lines. So. Two hundred feet, I mean. OK, yeah. So then she begins to twirl the spear of desert winds in front of her and the sort of ring of flame in front of her appears and then blasts out in a 10 foot wide, 60 foot line of fire.
00:44:21
Speaker
in which all creatures, and this would be the raven and any sorrow sworn in a 60 foot line behind her, are going to need to make a strength saving throw and then a dexterity saving throw. The strength saving throw is to avoid forced movement, and then the dexterity is to avoid fire damage. Okay, for the raven, she gets...
00:44:51
Speaker
16. Do you see that? That does succeed, and then the dexterity saving throw the raving gets a 19 or I'm sorry, a 24. And then the sorrow sworn.
00:45:18
Speaker
strength, they get a 7 and a 9. Okay, so the Sorrowsworna just sort of blasted 15 feet in all directions, and they take 29 fire damage. The Raven takes half of that, so 14 fire damage.
00:45:45
Speaker
And you see the Raven rather than like diving out of the way or anything. She extends a hand up and like frigid cold air negates the blasting heated wind.
00:45:59
Speaker
the sorrow sworn begin to seeing that their rank are beginning to fall quickly and the Raven sees this also. I mean, they're still pushing a thousand, if not more of them. Sure. She gives the forward signal again and they begin running at you all with the Emerald Claw coming up. And she can she can hold that that fire blast for one minute.
00:46:28
Speaker
Okay. Um, so obviously the ones that would be running right in front of her, the initial way gets taken out and then they're not stupid. Um, she specifically said forward. That's one direction man. But the, uh,
00:46:48
Speaker
The Emerald Claw and the Sorrowsworn, the very front lines of both of them begin to clash and it's just... I mean...
00:47:00
Speaker
Berwick, you're a military strategist. You've studied this kind of stuff. It's a, it's a bloodbath. Like the earmold claw are getting, uh, pwned. Um, I know I'm not proud of it either, but we're going to move on. Um, you don't get to make that face, Jeff. You've been doing that. The white Raven is still back amongst all of you. Uh, and it's kind of turned and looked at decks and are you all right friend?
00:47:34
Speaker
And I think that says, honestly, I don't know if I've ever been better. Any steps. No, I didn't. I feel like you're going to stab him. Um, but the emerald glop or the white Ravens.
00:47:48
Speaker
Which is the real Dex, I don't know. They're both dressed like white birds. The white raven pulls out his rape here and begins to ready it for the oncoming fight. Booyah. So the Sorrowsworn have kind of begun making their way past the raven. She has not begun her ascent or anything. So it's hard to have a clear line of sight on her now. I don't have a clear line of sight.
00:48:18
Speaker
No, you could you could take a shot with disadvantage. What about casting a spell? Is it a saving throw spell? Then you'd have disadvantage on it. Save decks. What?
00:48:34
Speaker
What? Oh, or save Dex. What? I thought you... Yeah, but I'm just thinking that Booyah wouldn't know that anything is wrong with Dex at this point. Yeah, Dex has not acted yet. Dex doesn't need to save him. I'm fine. Some might say I reached a greater clarity than I've ever had. That might be suspicious. You do know his brothers and have heard that.
00:48:56
Speaker
Booyah. I'm just saying she's got a lot of good idea. What does it take for Booyah to basically run, depending on how close he is to Dex, but he wants to basically climb Dex. To get a better shot. You can't do this anymore. To climb Dex. One time I let you, and now it's just like a move. I'm assuming you're closer because we came down together.
00:49:24
Speaker
And he's kind of scared to do it to Beric. Well, Beric ran up ahead. So Beric's not even near you anymore. I mean, you can try to climb on decks and see what happens. OK. I mean, what are you doing? Do I set the DC? I want to climb up decks.
00:49:42
Speaker
and basically jump off of him, use him to leap up. I'm gonna cast a bonus action hunter's mark on the raven, and then I wanna cast a spell. Okay. I'm gonna, real quick, while this is happening, you and your current state know that all of your former allies wish ill on her, so I will give you the opportunity to basically
00:50:07
Speaker
Deny Booyah, the ability to climb you because it fits with you being charmed and knowing he's probably trying to do harm to your lady. Right. Here's OK. I wanted to save this for my. He doesn't even see me coming, though. I mean, if you don't want to disrupt his turn, you don't have to, but. Here's a genuine question, though, if you start climbing up me from the back, I'm going to try to fling you off.
00:50:34
Speaker
Yeah, it would be a natural reaction. I would. Okay. Then what do I need to just, you don't want to roll the disruptor to see you to roll to make it happen. Um, give me a athletics check. Hey, give me, um, dueling athletics checks. I'm keeping my 27. Well, okay. Let's see. Athletics is where. Oh yeah. Well, I got a feeling I know how this is going to play out.
00:51:02
Speaker
Yeah, it's a 12. Okay. So, uh, you hold on, but he's clearly, I'm like coming up off, like I'm climbing up, I'm springboarding off. I'm springboarding off. Okay. Okay. And then you're going to cast your spell. Yeah. Bonus action to Hunter's Mark. He gets caught up in my hair. And then I'm going to like just point, just put my hand out and Booyah says Raven time. Be quiet. Silence.
00:51:30
Speaker
Okay. Does she have a saving throw on that? You just create a space of, yeah, just right on her head. Okay. And it's a 20 foot radius. Okay. Booyah doesn't know if she has to speak to cast spells, but yeah.
00:51:45
Speaker
That's in his head. That's an interesting, the silence negate the verbal component of spells. It does. Yeah. Okay. I was like, you can still talk. I can hear you. It's a very good reason to learn it. Yeah. It specifically does. Against monologuing villains. I mean, that's also a very good. Dim script MPZs. Yeah. I turn. Yes. Okay. Um, can it just be incidental that I, oh, he jumps off me. He's not on me. He didn't try to, he just, okay. So he's landing in front of you.
00:52:15
Speaker
I've had a really cool roll. Yeah. Look, if this is being too... You could have just used your rocket boots to... All right, I'm just gonna say what I think. I am charmed. The only difference between Dex 30 seconds ago and Dex now is that I'm sympathetic towards the Raven. I don't now hate these guys. I just want to protect the Raven. Yes. Okay. Then what I think he's gonna do, what I'd like Dex to do, and you can absolutely tell me if this is too soft.
00:52:47
Speaker
I want to click my heels and I want to run to her side
00:52:52
Speaker
because Barak's going at her, Booyah just silenced her. All right, Booyah just did something to her. Emerald Claw is running at her. My goal, and I know that I don't have time in this to try to reason with the guys I came here with. So I think Dex, if really the only thing that's different, because I'm not gonna attack Barak. It's Dex or Booyah, I mean, that's ridiculous. So I want to click my heal. How far away from me is she? She is 60 feet, so you can make it.
00:53:20
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, so I mean that's just I don't have to click my heels I'll just I guess if I do I can do it just in my speed So I'm gonna click my heels run that way. That's my that's my movement
00:53:31
Speaker
Eric. Yeah. Did Dex just step into the firestorm? Well, it's how wide of a Oh, because it's pointed right at the raven. But it was I thought it was her and everybody. Oh, because she was in front at the time. So I like to think that Dex would avoid the fire. You know what? Is she still in the fire? Dex might dive into it. I mean, she hasn't tried to move. She hasn't had an opportunity to move. I'll let you make a roll to try to dive in there and get her out of the fire. That's exactly what Dex does. When he does. However, he needs to first make a strength saving throw.
00:54:02
Speaker
Because he might launch himself towards her and then fly 15 feet through the air. And Booyah is yelling, Dex, what you do? Booyah, you crazy? Where you go? Explain why we need to make this. Because it's a column of fiery wind. So you might die for her and then get caught in the wind and jet engine fly back. Which is the best. I mean, if this ain't the thought that counts. All right, so a strength saving throw. What's the DC? DC is 15.
00:54:36
Speaker
Which direction does Dex fly? The way you were running. Away from Orianna. Because I'm trying to come at it from the side to swipe around. So you dive in and just shoot off how far? You also need a dexterity saving throw although I'm not really worried about you failing that.
00:54:58
Speaker
Yeah, it's a Jillian. I rolled a 19. So no 15 feet is how far he flies. 15 feet. Yeah. So no damage, but I'm 50 and am I still in it? So am I going to start my turn in it? I mean, you land amongst the how far back does it go?
00:55:16
Speaker
Like it's 60 feet long. So we're not within 20 feet of the raven. So they'd be about 40 feet behind her. So you stand about 40 feet behind the rail on the start of your next turn. It's conceivable that you'll just continue rolling with the important question. Am I among the the sorrows worn? Yes. Do they know I'm on their side now?
00:55:37
Speaker
None of them are making aggressive actions towards you right now. I was kind of hoping I would force an opportunity attack once it started to fail. That's not what I was trying to do when I was running through them. But once it started to fail, I was like, well, play me. Then can I then can I use my can I try to use my dash to get out of the path of the things? Yes. Fly back further that are strength saving throw to get out of it.
00:55:56
Speaker
Philip? No, I would only have one per turn in spell effects. So you're good to roll out of it. Then I'm going to use my dash action to realize what just happened, learn from that mistake, run back towards the Raven, but stay out of the jet stream until I get another chance at it. Okay. Okay. The Raven's turn. And I'm going to say because I'm in the 20 foot radius of silence.
00:56:25
Speaker
I forgot that Philip was just going to think that the stream had cut. Yeah. That was kind of a visual gag. It's great for a podcast to do a visual gag. Okay. She flies up out of the column of fire hovering above it. She would first need to make the saves.
00:56:53
Speaker
Strength save, that is a, I don't think she passes it.
00:57:00
Speaker
I mean, I shake my head vigorously. I have a plus 16 to one thing, so it's not really like that. Yeah, she does a 16 or no, sorry, 15, so she matches it. That matches it, so she passes. OK, and then I'm disappointed because that was going to be really funny with Dex running up to help her and her buying that past Dex. And then on the dexterity saving throw, she gets a 18. So she'll do half damage on this.
00:57:28
Speaker
She takes half of 27, so 13 fire damage. OK. And shouldn't Dex have taken damage from his stint? No, because he's a rogue. Oh, right, right, right. OK, so. That's the other thing Ruby can do. She floats up and out of the silence bubble. And yeah, I kind of figured, but.
00:57:52
Speaker
She extends a hand at you, Booyah, kind of like almost from her perspective, like she's doing that squish your head thing and she just clinches her fist. I need a intelligence saving throw. Oh, no, we're not supposed to use dented cans. What happens when she hurts her hair, Eric, while he's doing math? Well, I don't have to do much math. Oh, no. Is the charm on Dex a concentration effect?
00:58:22
Speaker
uh no it is a it's not a spell it's an action that she has okay just yep thank you proceed oh no so you got a natural one um so let's let's unpack the spell first and then we can unpack everything else so then we'll die um soon we'll all be more sympathetic to the raven
00:58:49
Speaker
Uh, honestly, I'm just honored. She wants me on the team. You take 11 psychic damage as it feels like your, your mind shatters. Well, typically are actually not your mind, your intellect and much more tragically than Booyah's intellect being shattered. Your personality is shattered. Um, Oh man. Is he going to be pleasant now? Oh, boom. Yeah. Yeah.
00:59:32
Speaker
I need to unpack a bit more of this. Eric has not done himself. I have.
00:59:47
Speaker
The delicious irony is that I won't get into it. Um, Booyah. Save it for the reviewed. Your intelligence and your charisma scores are now one. Oh my.
01:00:02
Speaker
You cannot cast spells, activate magic items, understand language, or communicate in any intelligible way.
01:00:18
Speaker
fight just, you can shoot plainer justice. You just can't do anything with plainer justice. You're a simple, you're Hodor. We have a pet Booyah now. What's his modifier if his intelligence and stuff is one? What does the modifier go down to? Negative? Negative a crap ton. Is it negative five? I think so. Oh my gosh. Yeah.
01:00:48
Speaker
This spell can be ended by greater restoration, heal, which you can't cast, which you can't cast or wish all the things I can cast. Um, but how can I help them with my ribbon? We've, um, you can repeat the saving throw against this spell every 30 days.
01:01:16
Speaker
Oh my word. You started with this! I think I love it. Y'all kill my bad guys before I can do any of the big stuff. I had to start leading with the big things. We and you. Ha! The Dex is now on the other side. Booyah just ceased to be our healer.
01:01:40
Speaker
Uh, and is now merely a ranger, which is, he's good. Not even a ranger. He's a, he's a ranged fighter. Yeah. Well, not even, yeah. I mean, without any of the cool things that he's, he's an Archer. He's an NPC. Oh, I forgot to roll for Rickard. My bad. Oh, back it all up now. Yeah. Undo everything. Now we have a pet Rickard. So, okay.
01:02:07
Speaker
The best, best case, best case scenario. Randy should play Rickard now. Right. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Best case scenario is that this dragon can help heal Booyah after this fight, provided provided provided we survive the fight and the dragon wants to help heal Booyah and can.
01:02:33
Speaker
Because I asked straight up. Oh, that's so bad. I straight up asked, what can I do to help with my ribbon weave? And Eric didn't say anything. I just kept talking. Which leads me to believe not a lot, but put him out of his misery. Whoa. I'm not a happy guy. Oh, you do. No, you're not a happy guy. You're emotion neutral now. You're the intelligence of one. You don't get to have happy. You just exist.
01:03:04
Speaker
What'd you say? I don't have feelings. That's fair. You, you have feelings. You just don't have a hunger. Yeah. It's just your, your primal, itchy or primal feelings. Hungry, itchy, spicy. Those are the three, the three main feelings.
01:03:29
Speaker
Hungry, itchy, spicy. Well, that was bad. Okay. Hungry, itchy, spicy, grimy. Steve. What's next, CM? Did you take into account the one yet? I have not taken into account the one yet. I feel like you've done enough, sir. I don't even know what to do with the one yet. The white raven stabbed you. Also, Barak has become incapacitated.
01:03:57
Speaker
fall we die his robot suit locks up teeters over like one of those fainting goats
01:04:06
Speaker
OK, we're going to get through this, buddy. I don't know how now fear that he's trapped inside of a warforged. He doesn't believe that he is a war. He doesn't lose any memory. He knows. I know. I know. I'm just giving you a hard time. It is now. Does the Raven have a bonus action? I hope not. Oh, she does have legendary actions. I have not been using those. Yeah, you haven't been using the legendary ones.
01:04:43
Speaker
I mean, to Jeff, what has happened to Booyah is absolutely worse than dying. If I had to choose between immediately dying or having, what is that called, locked-in syndrome, which I know this is not that bad.
01:04:59
Speaker
By the way, this podcast is not a living will and testament. Please do not kill me if I get locked in syndrome. Let's see. Give me a couple days. This is not binding at one hour and 14 minutes. We're drifting in a real dark direction here. Yeah. Okay. So that happens when you bring a robot to a demon fight. So the Emerald Claw are getting massacred, Beric. I know it's not a demon. I couldn't think of the word.
01:05:25
Speaker
Dex has run over to the other side, to what end you're not quite sure. Booyah is drooling. Oh no, he's going to drown in his helmet! The Saurus Worn are beginning to push the Emerald Claw ranks back and getting closer and closer to you all.
01:05:49
Speaker
Jeff just made a really awesome catch and didn't spill a sonic drink all over the floor. And you hear a tearing sound behind you.
01:06:03
Speaker
Um, uh, you, you've heard it occasionally before as the fabric of existence rins itself. Um, and, uh, you hear a voice bellow that says, shout out Kai forward. And you see behind you all.
01:06:27
Speaker
The Shadow Archive that you've known marching out of the tears with a woman at their front that you recognize as you're growing. End of episode. This isn't the last battle, right? Like you know that. Like you're aware that... It kind of sounded like we got stuff to do after this. And if we don't, I don't think others will. Oh, that makes us feel important. Okay, I'm ready. Let's do this.
01:06:55
Speaker
Shatter Kire here. That's very bad for Dex. Why is it bad for Dex? Because I'm going to try to hit one of them, Eric. Thank you all so much for listening. If you want to be part of the conversation, head on over to the Facebook group, The Geek Pantheon.
01:07:10

01:07:36
Speaker
I'm Philip. I'm Jeff. We'll see you next time. You know, somebody go back through the episodes and let me know the last time we actually all four of us said our names properly at the end of an episode. I feel like it's been a while. See you next time.
