Recap of previous episode and character insights

00:01:15
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, an actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I am your game master, Eric. I'm Phillip. I'm Trevor. I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. And welcome to another episode. Gentlemen, what happened last time? We went to a party. We did. Eventually. Yes. First we went grocery shopping. We went grocery shopping and we had small talk at a party.
00:01:41
Speaker
Which was way more entertaining that we just made it sound for an hour and a half. And it was fun. Yeah. OK, that's really it. We got to learn about food preferences of our characters, which we had not gotten to explore. We learned about various new alcoholic beverages that we had not discovered. And Hob gravely insulted Sana.
00:02:10
Speaker
Grave hardly. We learned some really interesting things about Half Elves that we managed to not learn after a hundred and something episodes with one.
00:02:24
Speaker
Well, we never really unity dinner was probably not a thing that happened in the rowing household. Right. Yeah. OK. Yeah. So we are now about a week and a half after the unity dinner is is where we're going to be picking up the session.

Discussing experience points and upgrades

00:02:44
Speaker
But before we get into that, we have a couple bits of housekeeping. You all obviously earned experience, but a function of the heroic abilities that you all have from the realms of Terranoth sourcebook for Genesis.
00:02:58
Speaker
dictates that when you hit the 50 XP threshold, which you did, you earn an ability point for your heroic ability that you get to spend in a variety of ways. We're not going to get into all the options, obviously. But if you all want to basically talk about what new nifty thing your heroic ability does, you can do that now. Do you also want us to do what we spent XP on? Yeah, yeah. Additionally, whatever any other things you've got in leveling. Sure.
00:03:26
Speaker
I'll go Eris upgraded her ranged ability and her streetwise ability. And for her ability or her upgrade point for her heroic ability. Eris has discovered that the schema she's been working from in gradually improving the Fletcher was actually substantially more ancient than she was aware of, and this has allowed her to make some adjustments to unlock
00:03:54
Speaker
Uh, some better abilities.

Eris's upgrades and project plans

00:03:56
Speaker
So the, um, within the realms of Teranoth book terminology, uh, the Fletcher now has the ancient make quality. Um, but for our purposes, it's design is ancient. Obviously the Fletcher itself, uh, is not, and that upgraded, uh, that lowered its crit and, um,
00:04:18
Speaker
A couple of other minor things. Yeah. Made it better. And then who would like to go next? Mine is nothing special. I just I can now use mine in incidental instead of as a maneuver. It just. Yeah, it's a free move. And mine, I just boosted the power a little bit, so I. I get to remove one black setback guys that we said. Yep. Yep.
00:04:45
Speaker
from a role involving my charm? Yes. I'm learning. The fact that without any editing, Trevor was able to get through that without any prompting or guidance is actually. Yeah. Yeah. Milo upgraded his lore knowledge and he upgraded.
00:05:12
Speaker
Is all the facts by getting a boost die on any skill checks involving that knowledge? Is that correct? You get to upgrade the check. Upgrade the check. So one green into a yellow. Yeah. On anything involving, I guess, whatever I'm knowing about at the time. Yep.
00:05:36
Speaker
OK, and the last thing we need to do before we get into the session proper is Eris has been working on a project and the last piece essentially that is needed is a successful streetwise check to track down a dragon shard with enough power to fuel this thing. Strictly speaking, after that, there will be a couple of making it checks. Yes, yes.
00:06:00
Speaker
All right, so a streetwise check and you have all of the various things set on your end. Yes. So Eris is using her talent that allows her to use her contact from the tyrants that we saw in a couple of arcs ago. The the changeling friend that she has is going to assist in some capacity and then a boost die because Hobb is also helping out.
00:06:24
Speaker
All right. Oh my goodness. One success, one threat, and a triumph.
00:06:31
Speaker
So that threat, let's just go and take a strain to kick off the session. Sure. You are having to go to some seedy parts of sharn to track this thing down. Yeah. An unlicensed shard of this this power. The triumph. That's tricky on this, since we're not in in narrative. You could take an upgrade for your amber crafting check to actually make the thing.
00:06:59
Speaker
Sure, that's that's yes. Oh, actually, I have a I have a suggestion. Yep. For the triumph. Can I increase the potency of the shard by a step by one by one? Yeah, I'd let you do that. OK, that will let me add a.
00:07:21
Speaker
a little bit better. Add one more thing to what I'm making. So if you want to go ahead and make the Ambercraft roll to do it. All right. How so the the check is going to be hard. No, it's formidable. No, no, it's regular. It's just hard. Hard because I'm not I'm not putting more than one effect on it. So it is hard. OK.
00:07:52
Speaker
All right. What? Oh, crap. Three failure to advantage and a triumph. So you don't actually successfully make the gloves. OK, for the triumph, can I not destroy the dragon shard that we just spent a whole bunch of time on so that I can try again next in a week? Yes, very. That can be the the super simple.
00:08:24
Speaker
And then. Additionally, OK. So. Using two advantage just from the table in the keyforged source book, let me know if this is something that you you want to have happen, because I like this you in tinkering with this dragon shard and trying to get the gloves to work.
00:08:46
Speaker
It interacted with the the artifice magic in your gloves to where there is now right around the rim of the rim of the glove. That's not a thing right near the opening. So you could fold it over to hide it if you want. The the ring is growing super brightly like
00:09:07
Speaker
something with the magic has caused this ring to grow really brightly and mechanically what that means is anybody that tries to make a combat check against Eris is going to have a setback die because they have this bright light shining in their eyes for the rest of the session. Just a weird additional magic artifice weird thing that happened that benefits Eris in a simple way.

Inspectors visit the inn and raise questions

00:09:30
Speaker
Would that mean her hand is glowing for the rest of the session?
00:09:33
Speaker
No, like I said, it's right near the end, so Eris could just fold it over to hide the light if she wants to. Yeah, okay.
00:09:40
Speaker
OK, so yeah, your gloves are acting up a little, not mechanically, just the the magic sprite for some reason. And then. Can Eris go ahead and roll for the other thing she was building that is not magical? Yeah. That you and I talked about, and that's just mechanics, which I've got over here as well. And what was the difficulty on that? I think it's I think it's just average because I think it's the rarity divided by two. OK.
00:10:06
Speaker
Uh, yes. Rarity divided by two. OK. Go for it. No. To success. OK. OK. So. All right. Well, Eris succeeded on the thing for herself, but not on the thing for Hobb. That's about right. Ain't it just the way. OK. So now let's get into session proper. So you all are at the for sales as you want to do.
00:10:37
Speaker
Uh, and you all are just hanging out, um, doing your normal thing. I'm sure, uh, Hob and, or Milo and Reynard are at the bar. If I had to venture a guess. Yep. And Eris is despondent in her booth. Okay. Y'all want to guess what Hob's doing? Eating. Yeah. Hob walked in and said play the meat. I'd like a plate of meat.
00:11:09
Speaker
OK, so. Yeah, you you all are in the for sales and often. You all would notice, Aris, you would notice very acutely, often seems a bit stressed about something and Kath, Sana and Sigil are also in the place doing their own thing.
00:11:37
Speaker
And as you all are just in here, a halfling walks in that you all have never seen before. This halfling looks very well dressed, very put together, has a clipboard.
00:11:51
Speaker
In in his hand and. Blonde hair kind of shortcut. Very pale skin and with them is another halfling that is slightly taller like by by halfling standards this individual is quite tall with red hair very curly sticking straight up in a red mustache and they walk in. And everyone can give me a.
00:12:21
Speaker
It would probably be knowledge. Knowledge Society is what I'll take for it. OK, so Milo, with your one advantage on your your next check, take a boost die. Raynard and Hob suffer threat, respective of your suffer strain, respective of your threat. So Hob to Raynard one.
00:12:46
Speaker
But Aeris rolled one failure to success for Milo and an advantage. One success, one threat for Reynard and one success to threat for Hob. Hob, Reynard and Milo. That makes sense. Aeris is in her booth just. Yeah, she's got her head down on the booth, earbuds in. She's just. So it's it's a little bit before lunch rush.
00:13:11
Speaker
And I'm, by the way, in regards to your all's jobs and everything, I'm taking very much like prime time sitcom approach of you all have employment to pay for all the stuff you're doing. It's just every episode happens when you're

Job briefing at Boromar HQ and mission planning

00:13:24
Speaker
not working so you can hang out in the coffee shop. So. So. You all, you three immediately recognize
00:13:34
Speaker
And we can get your reactions in a second, but these two individuals are from House Galanda, which is the house of the Mark of Hospitality. They run the food and hospitality industry in the world, essentially, on this continent.
00:13:57
Speaker
And they have a chain of inns, the gold dragon inn, that is like the bog standard food and dining and respite places. Holiday Express. Yeah. With a McDonald's. With a McDonald's. So, yeah.
00:14:20
Speaker
But, well, yeah, based on Ural's interaction with the world, you wouldn't really have a good idea as to why House Galanda would be poking around in this dive, except for maybe Reynard. Reynard, give me a knowledge society check to see if you can know why two members of House Galanda would be walking in here. And they have the markings on the clipboard is how you spot them.
00:14:49
Speaker
OK, if I succeed, you're going to tell me why, though, right? Yes. Two failure, two failure, two advantage. So Raynard, you can
00:15:06
Speaker
two advantage, these two individuals, you don't know why they're here. With your two advantage, they're gonna be very kind and not jerks about why they're here, essentially. So, Ophin has just stepped into the back to go deal with something. So they walk in and kind of look around and the blonde one is taking the lead and kind of walks up and looks at you, Milo.
00:15:33
Speaker
Uh, is the, is the owner anywhere? Yes, I do believe he stepped in the back. You should be up again here shortly. Great. Okay. Um, do you like this place? Yes, it's a wonderful place. Come here often. I am curious though, as to, uh, House Galanda, wonderful hospitality. I'm curious as to what your visit is about.
00:16:02
Speaker
Oh, well, you know, it's not anything dramatic. It's just, you know, occasionally the house will send out inspectors to go make sure that other establishments are on the up and up in terms of our industry and making sure that people in this city aren't having a bad experience. And this neighborhood is growing, so we're considering potentially establishing a location down here ourselves. Ah, I see.
00:16:30
Speaker
Sounds like a very good idea. I think you'll find this establishment to be totally in order. Excellent. And what's your name? It's Milo Kegbottom. Milo Kegbottom. Do you come here often, Milo? And may I get your name, too, sir? Oh, my name is Ralph. Ralph or Ralph? Ralph. Ralph DeGolanda.
00:17:01
Speaker
Yeah, that's hard to do. Yeah. Maybe you should go sleep it off. And the red headed one unprompted just kind of leads around Ralph and goes, My name's Ron. Pleased to meet you both. Nice to meet you, Milo. My friend Reynard. Hello, Reynard.
00:17:29
Speaker
Hello, what interesting names you all have, aren't they? Yes. Raynard, what's your last name? Turnveil. Turnveil. Raynard Turnveil. Interesting. Okay. Well, very nice to meet you too. And on a scale of one to 10, how would you rate the food and drink here? For drinks, 10. For food, three.
00:17:57
Speaker
Okay well to be fair that was a that was a that was a that was a chorus line joke. I just want to see who would get it. Let me do it again.
00:18:15
Speaker
I was just thinking I would get my joke. I think the answer is no one. You all look so mad at me. Real talk, if Eric and I didn't get it, no one listening is going to do either. OK, let me try it again. So yeah, Raynard, how would you rate the food and drink here? Oh, drinks 10, definitely. Food, solid seven and a half milo, wouldn't you say?
00:18:45
Speaker
And you know, I think it does depend on on what you order. You know, some things I like better than other things. And I think that's fairly typical. So, you know, I would say I would go with an eight. Definitely hear him mutter. Definitely a 10 on the food. Wonderful food establishment.
00:19:05
Speaker
No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm confused. That would be a 10 on the drinks and eight on the food. Raynor, how much have I had already? 10. I believe you had 10.
00:19:19
Speaker
You hear him mutter as he's noting, inconsistent menu, potentially over-serving drinks to clients. I love that basically what Milo said was, I'm very disappointed in the food when I order food I don't like. At this point, Ulfen walks out and kind of starts as like, ah,
00:19:40
Speaker
Hello. How are you? Oh, you must be Ulfin. Nice to meet you, Ulfin. Care to take us back to the kitchen? And he puts his quill in his pocket. Yes, yes. Come on, come on back. And so, yeah, they go back into the kitchen and it's all quiet in the dining area. And then Grum walks in.
00:20:10
Speaker
after a few minutes of them being in the back. So I didn't do a good job of describing Grum the first time he appeared on the show. So as he walks in, he is fairly average height for a dwarf, completely bald on the top of his head with long hair coming off the sides.
00:20:30
Speaker
And it's that very grayish red, like a redhead who has almost gone fully gray with just the twinge of copper still in the hair, with a long, full dwarven beard. And Grum has a very thick scar that takes over like probably a third of his face over his left eye, and his left eye is completely like an opaque white.
00:20:59
Speaker
And you all know that Grum served in the last war. And so that's where most of his battle scars came from. So Grum walks in and nods to Cath as Cath. He catches Cath's eye. And you all presumably know that this Grum wants to talk to you all. Grum has a job. So.
00:21:28
Speaker
So Kath gets out from the bar where she's sitting with Reynard and Milo and begins scooting a few tables together in the center of the dining area. And Sana also begins doing that too. Sigil is still in the back looking at schemas and lots of papers. Well, Reynard meeting time, it seems.
00:21:55
Speaker
Well, I'm bringing my drink. Are you all moving? If this is standard procedure, then yeah, I mean, I would pick up the hints and tap Eris on the shoulder because she's still got her headphones in and looking down. I assume Eris picks her head up off the table, looks around, shoves all the parts into a bag, climbs out of the booth.
00:22:22
Speaker
stumps over, sits down in a chair. He assumes you're upset. He assumes you're upset about the gloves. Is that what it is? Yeah. Oh, yeah. It didn't work. It's supposed to work. The design is perfect.
00:22:45
Speaker
Um, I don't know much about what you do, but it appears that we have everything we need to give it a second try, yes? Yes? Then I would say, despite not being a victory, it certainly isn't a loss.
00:23:05
Speaker
Then he takes a big horkin' bite out of a turkey like, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go,
00:23:34
Speaker
you all head over and finish pulling up chairs and all that kind of stuff, rearranging the dining area briefly. And Grum sits at the head of the table, and you all find your seats around this makeshift boardroom-esque table that you all have constructed.
00:24:00
Speaker
Quick production note, I'm remembering Grum had a gruff British accent if I'm remembering correctly. I have no memory. Honestly, until you said last time, I had not remembered that we had actually had the opportunity to talk to Grum.
00:24:14
Speaker
Yeah, he showed up at the very end of the first arc when you all got back to deliver the manifest to- Bob hasn't sounded the same episode to episode yet, so I think Grum can be forgiven as well. Yeah, we're gonna re-imagine Grum's voice just simply because if it was a Gruff British accent, that was a crutch on my part and I don't want him to have a Gruff British accent. So, Grum sits heavy in his chair and looks around at all of you.
00:24:41
Speaker
The house has come to call it again. And oddly enough, they want to meet in person at the Boromar HQ. They didn't want to just tell me what the job is and have me tell all of you. They want to meet the crew. I think you all have been doing a good enough job to wear
00:25:09
Speaker
the clan has started taking a more of an interest in all of you. So congratulations on that front. The manifest job and the halding gig both went well enough to where Borma is happy. But, um, okay. So Grum doesn't sound pleased. I want to do,
00:25:32
Speaker
Whatever the, it's not, I mean, whatever that insight-ish thing would be. Perception. Just perception? Yeah. Okay. And it would be opposed to his relevant skill, so go ahead. Your difficulty is one purple, two red. Okay, let me see, I feel like.
00:25:50
Speaker
If I didn't take it, I really considered something that augments cunning roles. Um, no, it looks like I didn't end up taking it. All right, cool. I think it's that's tickets to the gun show where you get to use your brawl instead of cut brawn instead of cutting.
00:26:05
Speaker
or something? Or I don't know. It's brought us into coercion, or brought us into willpower. Gotcha. Yeah. No, I was looking at one. Anyway, okay, rolling perception. Two success, three threat. You feel like you understand why Grum is in the state that he's in, but he notices you, the threat is he notices you staring a bit more intently than he would like, like he catches your eye almost.
00:26:33
Speaker
And so you know that essentially, Grum's job at this point, because he is no longer physically, it's no longer wise for him to physically go out on jobs anymore. His job is to communicate to the house, get jobs, then communicate them to you. And so if all of a sudden the house wants to start meeting with you, what function does Grum have in that hierarchy? That's exactly what I was thinking he was thinking. So okay, good enough.
00:27:03
Speaker
Because I remember the percentage that he took from that head-in-the-box job, and I don't mind him getting cut out So yeah, so we'll we'll take take the boat up to To bore my HQ and see what gig they have for us and Negotiate terms I guess So
00:27:32
Speaker
All I know is they suggested that you all potentially pack a bag. It has the potential to be an overnight gig. So if you have anything that you want to take with you, then go ahead and grab it on our way out and meet back up in 10, 15, and we'll head out from there. You said this has to do with the house.
00:27:59
Speaker
The clan. Oh, do you know anything about the two of Galanda? What just came in? Galanda's here? Yeah, they went back in the kitchen with Orphan. No, I don't know why they're here. I have a pretty good idea as to why they would be here, but I don't personally know what's going on. There is no.
00:28:23
Speaker
I mean, the clan's still going to take care of Ulfin. Best they can. I mean, they have deals with the houses, so it's a give and take. But as far as I have not heard any intention of the clan pushing Ulfin out of the district or not taking care of Ulfin. So if Galanda wants to try and step on toes and they don't have the approval of the clan, then the clan will take care of it or the Helvas take care of it.
00:28:52
Speaker
All right. So, yeah, go. If you want to gather some things for the potential overnight, another change of clothes and food, feel free. If not, Eris, if you want to bring the car around, we can load up and head that way. What is our experience of Grum's personality as far as how he reacts to Eris?

Journey to the train station and mission strategy discussion

00:29:22
Speaker
He finds. I mean, based on the personality that we've seen of Eris in the show, there are times where he finds Eris very trying. He recognizes Eris is immense talent and so gives her a lot of grace in that regard. But there have been a few times where Grump has snapped at Eris when Eris has pushed that line a bit too far. OK, then she attempts to control the way she says this. Her name's Tasha now.
00:29:55
Speaker
You name the car? The skiff, yeah. But, you know, it's a boat. Boats have names. Fair enough. If you want to bring Tasha around, that'd be great. All right. I'll get my stuff since it's here and then I'll do that.
00:30:16
Speaker
and she scuttles away from the table. And, Hob, as you, are you getting up to go gather anything, or are you just hanging around? Like, what's Hob doing? I am under the assumption that any time Hob is at the foresales, he already has his staff with him, just in case something like this happens. So he has nothing to grab. He is finally rewearing the same clothes for one day. Okay.
00:30:43
Speaker
So he's just like back to his plate. No, he's done. Milo, Rainard, are you going to get anything or are you good with what you got? Milo would probably go get a change of clothes for the next day. OK. Same. Just just some clothes. Some clean undies. So so, yeah, as everyone else files out to go prep, Sigil goes back to their table
00:31:15
Speaker
Hob Grum looks at you and just kind of stares at you for a second. Hob, if you want to go back in the kitchen and make sure that everything's good with Ulfin real quick, that'd be swell. Okay, because I don't know enough about what's going on here.
00:31:43
Speaker
So I need, based on everything that's being said, it seems like there was this hot pickup on something bad is happening. Would I know? Would he know what's going on? Real world, real world implications. A health inspector just walked into a mob owned restaurant. OK, OK. And is and is poking around. That's right. I mean, that's that's that's what I was reading. But it suddenly sounded more dire when it was like, are they still going to protect Ulfin?
00:32:06
Speaker
Yeah, no, Hob, Hob, often is one of Hob's people. He keeps food and food, so he goes. As you go to stand up, Grum also says, and Hob, in the future, stay out of my head.
00:32:21
Speaker
And he goes back to his notes. This is just like he noticed you noticing what he would like. You have perturbed Grum. So, yeah. OK, I go into the kitchen.
00:32:37
Speaker
So all three figures kind of look at you, Hob, as you walk through and you you see two guys standing there. One of them has a clipboard and often is currently has a thing open and you see a dragon shard with a fire method kind of swirling around it like there's a little ring fire around it that controls the cooktop. And so they all just kind of look like, are you?
00:33:11
Speaker
Yarn! I'm Avast! Welcome to me kitchen! Boats, boats, boats! Sorry, me galley. Hob, what are you doing back here? Oh, you know, sometimes when I get, um, wee peckish,
00:33:34
Speaker
And I couldn't find anyone, so I thought, I don't know where it's at, I just come back here. And he looks at whatever's on the shelf closest to him. He's just going to grab one and take a bite. An onion. Like a head of cabbage. Yes, that's so much better, because that's onion sized in Hobbs' hand. And he takes a bite, he goes, mmm.
00:33:57
Speaker
Ralph looks at you and looks at Ulfin's like, and does this individual, is this individual under your employ, Ulfin? Yes. Right. Yes, I am regularly employed here.
00:34:23
Speaker
That's the truth. More of a front of house position. It's a very circuitous version of the truth. OK, go ahead and give me a since you are telling the truth, I will allow it to be a charm check.
00:34:41
Speaker
See, I need to be meaner. I need to go where Steven wants to. OK. Complete wash. Yeah. So you just see Ralph like tap his quill on his parchment and silently write something. Well, if we can continue our conversation open. Yeah, here. Thanks. You can you can go. Oh, I need next Tuesday off that I.
00:35:12
Speaker
Yarr. You are a great boss. Goodbye. Thank you, employee hob. Hob goes out the door and goes, oh, it seems fine in there. OK, so, yeah, you all. When I walked, I should have asked, is the place is it dirty back there? Is he going to fail this? I mean, it's.
00:35:40
Speaker
It's not filthy. It's it's an in use kitchen of a less than reputable like restaurant in not a great part of town. Like it's it's not an F grade, but it's certainly not pristine back there. OK, so. OK, so you all hop into Tasha and take off for for my HQ. Yep, what's up upstairs?
00:36:07
Speaker
Eris hides everything she owns because there are Galanda inspectors here and Eris does not trust the houses in a little bit, even a little bit. So Eris like stows everything she she owns in. I don't know, in some wall compartment and the third schema that we took.
00:36:32
Speaker
She puts in her bag and brings with her. OK, because she doesn't want it lying around here and all of and Sigil have the other two. And then she goes out back and brings Tasha around to the front. OK, the rest of you are waiting because Eris took some extra time to hide stuff. So Eris, by the time you get Tasha around in the Sky Dock, everybody is there waiting on you. Grown seems perturbed. And so.
00:37:00
Speaker
Eris thinks grub grub exists in a perpetual state of perturbation. So she probably does not realize that that there's anything new. I wouldn't go so far with all this trying to figure out what's in grums head stuff like it. So yeah, you all
00:37:20
Speaker
You all are beginning to pile into Tasha and Grum is the first one in there and as Sana and Sigil begin to climb in, Grum puts up a hand and says,
00:37:32
Speaker
You two stay behind just in case more people come poking around with Ulfin. I want some people here just to deal with that. Kath, Eris, Reynard, Milo, and Hob will be fine for this job as far as I know. We might call you if we need you, but I want you all to stay around in the district. Just make sure nothing wild happens. They're like, oh, okay. I don't let them mess with my stuff. Sigil, look, noted. I'll keep an eye out.
00:38:02
Speaker
So you all take off with Cass and Grum up to the Boromar HQ. And you all I mean, unless you all have anything you want to talk about, then it's an uneventful drive there. You all arrive and Grumwalks lead you all into the front. I think the only one of you that has been here before to like
00:38:27
Speaker
the the HHQ of of Boromar is Milo. Because Milo has been working for the clan for a very long time. So my of all of you, I would think Milo is the only one who's like a made man kind of thing to borrow. Like Hobb is part of the family and has been accepted. But
00:38:55
Speaker
Milo's just been a part of this for decades at this point. Sure. You all walk into the front room and there's a reception area with a halfling woman behind the desk. Oh, Grum, are you here for the the meeting? Yeah, I'm here for that. Got my got my people with me. It's like, OK, they're they're waiting for you. Just third door on the left. It's like, I know. And so lead you down the hallway.
00:39:24
Speaker
and you walk in and you are in not what you all would probably expect. It's not an office or a meeting room or anything. You find yourself in what you would envision the back room of Jorgens to look like. It's like a butcher area. And you see a cow hanging from the ceiling. And the two figures you see in here are Vigo and another figure.
00:39:54
Speaker
Vigo is just standing there in his best, like, attire, looking nice. Cravat. He's got a cravat. The other one is halfling with dark hair with some wisps of gray, like a gray hair here and there, but very thick, dark hair. Black mustache that kind of like has the handlebar thing going.
00:40:21
Speaker
And this halfling is the one like working on the cow and is on kind of a stepladder and talking to Viggo as you all walk in, but they stop. It's like, ah, grum. Good of you to come so quickly. Is this your crew?
00:40:44
Speaker
Yeah, this is them. Like, okay, well, Vigo, you know what needs to be doing, so I will give you leave. And Grum says, or Vigo says, all right, Satan, I'll give him the gig. And Milo,
00:41:08
Speaker
You know who this is. And Satan is walking towards you.

Sentinel Marshals encounter and plan execution

00:41:15
Speaker
Satan is not walking towards the exit immediately. Satan is walking towards Milo. Satan is the patriarch of Boromar. Satan is Boromar, essentially. Spelled.
00:41:28
Speaker
S-A-I-D-A-N. One letter, one letter off. Yeah, Satan spots you, Milo, and begins to walk over. Milo, Mr. Kegbottom. Good to see you again, sir. Yes, it's good to see you, and he takes both of your hands in his hands. Once again, I am so sorry about Kylie. I can't imagine what you're going through. I certainly appreciate that.
00:41:58
Speaker
It's tight, but we get by. Are there any reconstruction plans in place? Are you going to rebuild? You know, I haven't quite got that far in my thought process. I try to keep busy with, you know, with the jobs that we get. And, you know, I think at some point I would like to do so. Anything you need, anything you need, Milo. You come to me, OK?
00:42:29
Speaker
Certainly, I think thank you. I certainly appreciate that. And he like grabs the back of your head and like pulls you in for an unexpected like embrace. And he like pats the side of your face as he walks by you and exits. And Vigo just sort of as I imagine many of you stood there awkwardly waiting on that exchange to be over and done with. Like, OK, so
00:42:56
Speaker
We have a job for you. The gig is there is a we have tickets for you. We need you all to board a lightning rail headed out of Sean.
00:43:11
Speaker
And we need you to basically, there is a individual on this train that is headed to House of Aedolus headquarters in Eldean Reaches. We need their research and what they're working on.
00:43:30
Speaker
and them, that's less important, that's a secondary. We definitely need their research to not make it. If they don't make it either, all's the better. But primary job is research doesn't make it. The individual, oh, go ahead, yes, Hob? Excuse me, research needs to be destroyed or stolen and brought to you. If the research makes it back to us,
00:43:59
Speaker
Peachy, that's more of a teshiri, so research doesn't make it. Could be destroyed, could be stolen, either. That's your primary. Kill this guy is secondary, once again, super, but if he doesn't, or kidnap, either way, if you wanna bring him back. And thirdly is to bring the research back to us, so.
00:44:22
Speaker
But if the research just gets destroyed, that's the primary thing. But there might be some incentives and bonuses if you complete the other tasks. And Viggo kind of chuckles to himself. We've never been hired to kill anyone, right? Probably not. This is the most overt that we've ever gotten. Yeah, I was definitely thinking like, I don't know if Hobbs sees himself in kidnappery right now. Yeah. But like,
00:44:49
Speaker
you all have moved up a little bit in the family. So the jobs get a little less, like they trust you to not go snitch if you're given a job to go kill somebody. So you're doing it. Good job. It's a human.
00:45:06
Speaker
man by the name of Tardis Vytithers. Tardis is the first name. So much please. T-A-R-T-I-S V-I-T-I or V last name V-I-T-E-I-T-H-E-R-S. Vytithers.
00:45:27
Speaker
OK, that's is that that's his first name and his like surname and then de Vadilis at the end, because that's what all these people do.
00:45:40
Speaker
Okay, just keep your last name, you gotta get something fancy. Anyway, so yeah, this guy's working with Vaedalus on some breakthroughs in potential, like medical type stuff, like using Vaedalus abilities to heal or generate
00:46:07
Speaker
like lost limbs, organs, that kind of stuff. And obviously, uh, Satan's wife and her lot, uh, over at House Jurassic would really hate for that to happen.
00:46:19
Speaker
But how's your ass going to do nothing about it? You a lot. You you all would know just being part of the family that, yeah, Satan is married to a member of House Drasko. Elira I. L. Y. R. A. Elira Boromar, Elira Boromar to Drasko. No. Nay, Drasko.
00:46:44
Speaker
So, yeah, we got your tickets. We got identity identification papers for you so that you don't have to worry about any of that. So just board the train, find your moment, get the research. Get out or take the ride there and turn around and come back. And the train is going. All the way to the reaches. Yeah, there's a stopover in Rowatt, so you could get off there and if you get the job done before Rowatt and then just
00:47:13
Speaker
Get a ticket back home. We'll reimburse you. Keep your receipts. All right. So we take the research. And this TARDIS fellow, we either kidnap him or we kill him. He does not get away one way or the other. I mean, if he does get away, we're not going to. Well, yeah, you know, now that I think about it, now that we're talking this through, I guess
00:47:43
Speaker
Like his research is written down, but it's also in his brain, right? He could just write it down again. So, huh. Man, if Satan was still here, he might be able to give us thumbs up or thumbs down as to whether or not we need you to kill this guy or kidnap him.
00:48:01
Speaker
Son of- Yeah, do your best to make sure he doesn't make it to Eldine Reaches. All right, very well. Okay, any other questions or anything? Obviously, the nature of this job is a little bit more than transporting a box across the city. Well, what was in that box? Did you all look? We did not open the box. Never opened it. I would have. Bob wouldn't let me.
00:48:26
Speaker
Good job, Hob. Looking forward to killing for you, sir. Hob does not say that. Yeah, the gig pays a bit better than transporting a box.
00:48:41
Speaker
We'll get you your cut out of the coffers, but each of you could reasonably expect to get about 50 gold pieces each. OK, so quick point of distinction here, just so everybody's on the same page going into this job. You all have been given the directive as it was given to Vigo by Satan to go stop the research from getting to the Eldean reaches.
00:49:04
Speaker
The secondary stuff was dealing with TARDIS. The third thing was actually collecting the research and bringing it back to them. Vigo has made the call on the fly that you all should probably go ahead and kill him or kidnap him. But that's that's a Vigo's called not Satan's call, just so you know the hierarchy of where these orders are coming from, if that makes sense. So Satan didn't say anything about kidnap or kill.
00:49:32
Speaker
The order of operations is Vigo was telling you what Satan had told him, then you and him started having the back and forth, Milo. And that's where he made the decision of, yeah, you're right. Probably should kill him. So.
00:49:45
Speaker
So yeah, it's not like the kill kidnap order came directly from Satan. That was Viggo's call. But this is, I mean, we have an org chart and Viggo is above us still. Yes, Viggo is above you, but not above Satan. And so are these Viggo's orders to change? Well, we certainly have never had a problem with negative directions on this podcast, or nebulous directions on this podcast.
00:50:12
Speaker
Now, I'm just I'm just giving you all all of the information. I appreciate it. And now is Vigo. How is he related to say? Like third cousin's nephew. OK, like he has the surname of Boromar and that's about as much cloud as he has in this family. All right. Good to know. That's that's why he's dealing with you all. You all have just gotten to the point where you can get your job directly from a Boromar person. So you're getting them from
00:50:42
Speaker
The lowest. Yeah. Did Satan just stop halfway through butchering a cow and walk out of the room? Yes, there are half a cow, a half butchered cow hanging from the ceiling. Yep. There's a table with some with some various parts that have been cut off and laid out. Everything since we walked into this room has been deeply weird. I don't know. I don't know how to take it. Raynard, how are you feeling about the prospect of this job? You've been very quiet.
00:51:13
Speaker
Uh, Reynard was just waiting to hear what the reward was going to be, so. And he's like, well, I guess that's enough.
00:51:25
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, no, and that that is a fair assessment coming from Raynard, given your background, like you you come from a family who kills for a living. So when it comes down to it, not going to have a problem with a gang. OK, so the the train leaves in a couple of hours, so I'd recommend heading that way. Grum, we're going to talk. So if you want to stay, the rest of you can can go.
00:51:53
Speaker
All right, my little heads for the door. Yeah. Good seeing you again, Vigo. Sure. Does he have to rule deception for that one? Okay. Eris sort of looks questioningly at Grom and the... Should we wait around?
00:52:22
Speaker
on where you ride. I can I can get a ride. Eris, thank you. I imagine I'm going to be here a while. And everything's all right. At this point, you hear everything's fine, Eris. Don't you worry? What is it? Grump Grump seems not super enthusiastic about the conversation that he imagines is about to happen in his
00:52:50
Speaker
grinding his teeth a bit like. Like his jaw is clenched, but he's just there for it. Harris follows the others out. OK, Kath is the last one out of the room and she pulls the door shut and Eris, you get the sense that you're apprehensive about the situation is shared by Kath. So.
00:53:14
Speaker
Yeah, you all can head down to the the lightning rail station that comes into Sharn. And it won't take you the full couple of hours, but you know, when you're traveling, it's good to get there a little bit early. You never know what kind of snag ups can come up and ticketing and customs and things of that nature. So because you are technically boarding a train for a foreign country, so.
00:53:37
Speaker
Now, an interesting thing that we haven't really touched on a whole lot, and I can cut this out, but I do have a question for you, Jeff. Did we establish is Hobbs country of origin, Joam? Is that like the mountains? Yes, that is OK. That is what we said is that's where he can trace his lineage

Final preparations and episode conclusion

00:53:58
Speaker
to. If it's easier to say he was also born there, that's totally fine with me.
00:54:02
Speaker
No, so that that's fine. Just so we're clear about Hobbes. Hobbes has kind of a different situation in this city than everybody else being a Goliath from Joam, because while everybody else part of the Treaty of Thronehold granted all of the recognized nations, all of the citizens were afforded the protections of the Code of Gallifar. But additionally, every citizen is expected to act.
00:54:30
Speaker
within the guidelines of the Code of Gallifar. Because Drowam wasn't recognized, basically, Hobb, you're constantly living in a situation where you have to abide by all of the laws of the land, but Hobb isn't actually guaranteed any protections by those laws. So while everybody else is guaranteed trial, yada, yada, yada, all that stuff,
00:54:51
Speaker
Hob within the confines of the law is not granted any of that. So so Hob could just be thrown in a hole somewhere and nobody is going to really bat an eye because he's not technically a citizen of Breyland a Breyland thing. No, because yeah, the citizens of Jerome are viewed as a
00:55:14
Speaker
I forget the the technical term but basically a rebel nation that they they have committed treason against Breeland and so therefore are not recognized as citizens. So so yeah that's just a bit of lore that I kept intending to tell you about and I just remembered so I figured hey why wait until the end of the session so
00:55:34
Speaker
So, yeah, with with all the stuff going on, like, yeah, that's that's kind of your deal is everybody else. And there is no guarantee that that would happen to Hobb. It's not saying that this is the consequence if Hobb gets caught doing something. It's just.
00:55:50
Speaker
Hob and Hob would be aware has the potential to be treated very differently than Aeris, Reynard, Milo, Kat, Sana and Sigil. So anyway, OK, anything you all would like to do? Well, I don't know how much time do we have. So by the time you get down to the station and find a parking space and all that kind of stuff, you probably have about 45 minutes before the train takes off. OK, so we would be leaving Tasha at the train station.
00:56:17
Speaker
Yes. OK. Or or you could take her back and take a cab down if you don't want to leave. Well, I was I was going to see if we could go pick up. We could go pick up Sigil and let Sigil run us over if everything's OK back at the end. But if you don't want us to trip back to the end for any kind of narrative purposes, that's OK, too. No, I'm fine with hand waving that. Yeah, you you went and convinced Sigil to give you a ride to the airport. Yeah, Sigil was able to to take you all in.
00:56:43
Speaker
And Sigil, while they're in the boat with you all, Eris, they kind of like not hushed, but just it's not relevant to anybody else to just speaks like very casually quiet to you and says, by the way, Eris, I I think I may have found something with the schema in some of my research. So the next time we have a bit of time, we should sit down so I can show you what I found.
00:57:14
Speaker
Oh, yeah, right. Was everything all right back at the sales? Oh, yeah, those those two halflings are just still poking around, asking a lot of questions about food prep and stuff like that. So but he seems to be fine. Where's Grub? He stayed back at the. What's the I mean, is there a name for the place we were just at?
00:57:42
Speaker
Does Boromar have, is it a legitimate establishment in addition to being the headquarters of a mob slash butcher shop? Well, first off, how dare you, Boromar is an upstanding family who is largely respected in this community. No, that's just their headquarters. They don't have a business front or anything. Why is there a butcher shop?
00:58:10
Speaker
This is such a weird place. He stayed behind with with Vigo. We're going to talk. OK. Some guy named Satan was torturing a cow.
00:58:31
Speaker
Weird. OK, so, yeah, you all are at at the the Scharn lightning rail station terminus station terminus station. Well, while we're in route to terminus, Eris standing in the back and. Going through all sorts of ways, I assume Sejal is highly tolerant of Eris's artificing concerns, going through all the ways in which
00:59:00
Speaker
the modifications to the vessel need special care while she's away. And then as we get close, she sort of looks around to make sure no one else is watching and then she reaches into a pocket and she pulls out this sort of rolled up, folded up bit of paper and says, can you look at this while we're away and see if you can figure out what I did wrong?
00:59:30
Speaker
And Sigil takes it and unfurls it with their long metal fingers. Yeah, I can. I'll take a look at the stairs. It should work and it doesn't and. And I owe it to I owe it to her job and I don't know. I don't know what I did wrong. Yeah, I'll take a look. And Sigil stuffs it in their bag.
00:59:56
Speaker
not like stuffs it, but like, yeah, I mean, it's definitely not neatly, carefully folded. Yeah. So, so, yeah, you all arrive at terminus station and you all are able to get through. I mean, your identification papers are forges. They do not have your actual identification on there, but they are.
01:00:19
Speaker
provided by the clan. So you all do not have any issues within the city of Sharn of those things being noticed. Do they have fake names on them or are they are proper names? They're fake names. Yeah. No, I'm not going to I'm not going to make you make up five fake names right now. Four fake names. I'm not going to be that way. So mine's Ralph.
01:00:47
Speaker
Yeah, you all can make up your own fake names. So so yeah, you all are at the the landing waiting on the lightning rail to arrive. It's running a little bit late. And it's this large platform that is U shaped because this is the end of the line. Sharn is like the lightning rail does not pass through the city.
01:01:10
Speaker
So you all see a lightning rail coming down a single track and the track splits just before it gets to the platform as it takes the right side and loops around and you all are walled off a bit. There's a barricade and you see people begin filing off of the train and heading off in the opposite direction to go enter the city. Anything you all would like to do or say before
01:01:37
Speaker
getting on the train. I don't think I guess I'll stop at Newport News and pick up a pack of gum in a magazine because. This will buy some sort of meat on a stick. If you want to buy something without having to pay the duty on it, then you could go to the shop that's free of duty.
01:01:56
Speaker
So duty. OK, so you all begin climbing onto the train. Everyone give me a perception check. Eric powered down. I get a boost on this one. Right. Well, then don't roll yet, Milo, because I'll add that.
01:02:24
Speaker
Perfection. Rainard go and roll. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I didn't do it. It's up to you, Milo. Milo, go for it.
01:02:36
Speaker
OK, so Eris's role is three failure for advantage. Hobbs role is one failure. Reynard's role is one threat. Go and suffer a point of strain, Reynard. And Milo's role is one advantage. So the next role that somebody does can have a boost from Milo's advantage that he got from his boost die from his previous check.
01:02:59
Speaker
OK, so none of you, none of you note like it's really crowded. It's very loud. People are very like shoulder to shoulder with you all. It's very uncomfortable. Eris, you have four advantage. Yeah, I'm trying to. OK, I would like to declare. I would like to say that someone. Someone on the train, someone famous, someone famous is on the train that we might
01:03:29
Speaker
theoretically, at some point, make use of for a distraction. I know exactly who it is because I have it in my notes that at one point they would pop up and it makes total sense that Eris would spot them as the crowds going about. Once again, this is just a boilerplate disclaimer for all the listeners in addition to all the players, but you all know.
01:03:54
Speaker
This is a complete reset of the Universe of Eberron from the first campaign and any potential overlapping characters have no relation or any overlap with the characters as they appeared or were represented in Campaign 1.
01:04:07
Speaker
Eris, you spot the displaced prince of your formation, Prince Orgev, in the crowd surrounded by a few bodyguards boarding the train, presumably to head to Nukire or something. You know that
01:04:26
Speaker
Prince Orgev does come to Sharn on the regular to speak to Kyron refugees and try to comfort them and potentially convince them to come establish this new nation and all that kind of stuff. Has Eris ever gone to any kind of such event? No, Eris has never gone to any such kind of event. Eris is, however, Eris like, Eris sort of freezes and there's this moment of indecision where she's definitely holding up the boarding line as she sort of
01:04:55
Speaker
looks like she's about to pull off her coat and then realizes she's got like her bag around her shoulders and the Fletcher. Wait, am I allowed to carry a Fletcher on a train?
01:05:07
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, people have axes and stuff. So, you know, whatever. I don't know. It's a it's a medieval fantasy world. There's people with claws. Didn't know what what what Orian's rules were. Yeah. So she's got all this and there's no way she's going to get it. She's just going to make us more out of scene. And so she. Yeah. But I mean, Iris is definitely wearing her.
01:05:30
Speaker
Army surplus, Kyron military jacket. But she, yeah, no, she does not bend to any such meeting. So, OK, but there is a very famous person on this train that you could potentially use as a distraction. OK.
01:05:46
Speaker
OK, so the train takes off and you all know. So the trip to row at is is a day trip you all could if you get the job done before row at be able to get off the train, hop on a ride back to Charn and be back by. It would be late. It would be past supper time, but you would be back same day if the train goes all the way to the ld reaches and comes back, then we're talking a couple day trip, so.
01:06:14
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, Aeris will sort of as we make our way to Aeris will put her head down and try to get past the Chiron party unnoticed and make her way to wherever we're sitting. I assume we have crappy seats. Yeah, I mean, you all are not quite in the cargo hold, but certainly in the working class car. Yeah. OK.
01:06:40
Speaker
So the train takes off. You all how do you all intend to go about locating this individual and their research? Like what's your. Presumably this conversation would have happened on the drive. Rainard has a sign that says the name.
01:06:58
Speaker
So so presumably you all have figured out what your plan of action is on the train, if you would like to discuss that now. I mean, surely, surely we were smart enough to ask for a description of the person. That we're supposed to steal from. Yeah. So this individual has dark olive skin with like true black hair, like dark, dark, dark, black hair.
01:07:29
Speaker
They are a little bit older in there. Probably you would. They're they're a human, so late fifties to mid sixties is kind of the age range that you're looking at. So that that is the description that you got of the individual. And they do. They are a marked individual. They are a marked heir of the house.
01:07:53
Speaker
So and their dragon mark manifested on their like shoulder going up into their neck. So if they're wearing the appropriate, it's not appropriate. If they're wearing the right kind of attire for you to notice it, their mark would be noticeable. OK. The mark of handling. Yes. Who has the mark of shipping? I mean, House Orion has the mark of passage, so there you go.
01:08:22
Speaker
Um, well, as it turns out, only one of us has any points in perception. So I think Milo should look for look for our mark. OK, so you're getting on the train. So Milo described to me. So are you going to like walk the length of the train, just kind of acting like you're you're looking for somebody like like in a friendly way, not spying about like how are you going about trying to find this person?
01:08:48
Speaker
Yeah, I think Milo would start at one end and work his way down just like he's looking for an old friend. OK, any kind of preparation you would like to make with your advantage, you do have a boost coming on that. You can spend a story point to take a story point to upgrade to make sure I got a better shot at finding this dude. Go for it. Hey, OK.
01:09:16
Speaker
Okay, so the train has just started, so people are still putting bags away, finding seats, so you're able to navigate through. You see somebody matching the description that you were given near the front of the train.
01:09:29
Speaker
But they are entering a car that basically as opposed to there being like a windowed door that you walk through like the other cars. This one has a solid wooden door and there's like you spot them entering it and then the individual on the other side of the door, the same side you're on, has a key that they reach up and lock the door and put it in their bag and just kind of stand next to it like they're they're standing guard. So.
01:10:00
Speaker
So they're in a private car of some kind, but you did spot what car they were in. All right. So I saw the guy we're looking for and a guard. Yes. OK. Well, I will make my way to my friends and relay that information. OK, by the time you get back navigating around all the people, the train has been going for about, let's say, 10 minutes at this point. So you all are properly outside of Charne.
01:10:30
Speaker
For the first time, this campaign. So, yeah, you all are chugging along. What's the playing game? He's located to the front. One other thing you did notice, Milo, just as the door was open and they were entering, it was it was lit with natural light. So there are wind. It's not like a steel like box that this person is in. There are windows. It looks like a train car from the outside. So you do have multiple points of entry potentially.
01:11:00
Speaker
All right, so he's located up towards the front, but it's a wooden door that he's locked, and there is a guard on the outside. I did see some natural light, so that tells us there should be at least one window. Any ideas? How long of a trip is it to Roet? Roet, it's a few hours to get there.
01:11:30
Speaker
I suppose we could wait and see if he comes out at some point. That would be one way. But then if he doesn't come out. Yeah. And if one of us is just, Kath is saying this, hold up outside his door, then surely that guard is going to notice somebody watching eventually. We don't have seats up there. I feel like we should plan to make our move.
01:11:58
Speaker
shortly before arriving in Roet. I don't want to be on the train after we've done it for very long. And maybe we just take this guy and put him on a different train and he will not have made it to the Eldean reaches either and no one has to have killed him. Wait, what kind of kidnapping? No, well, light kidnapping, rerouting.
01:12:27
Speaker
Abduction, if you will. That's not better. But it's not worse. I don't think we were given much of a choice. We have to do something with him. We have to steal from him. I don't think we have to do anything with him. Well, if we want more of a reward, we do. I'm not interested in that.
01:12:54
Speaker
Well, it seems it was pretty clear that we should not let him escape. I mean, I'm not one for outright killing an individual, but. I mean, it seemed like that only came up when Vigo started thinking on his own. Right. Which is never a good thing. And him being kind of a tool.
01:13:23
Speaker
No, Aeris wouldn't use that as an insult. In being kind of a tat, you know, maybe he's just gone off his orders. Off the rails didn't work either. I was about to say off the rails, but this doesn't actually have rails.
01:13:50
Speaker
Yeah, I like Hobbs playing of doing it right before Rowat. That makes sense. Yeah, and then we just sort of disappear. Rowat's a big city. We can we can get lost till he moves on and make our way back. But I think Hobbs Hobbs idea of just sticking him on another train, he's in convenience, but he's not harmed. Right now, I don't have a
01:14:16
Speaker
And it's a nice loophole to where Reynard can get his extra coin. I have a problem with that, exactly. I just think it's an added complication to the job. Well, Milo, did you see anything in the room when the door was open other than the natural light? You know, I believe I did. Can I flip a couple of story points?
01:14:40
Speaker
Sure, you can flip a story point and we can say you did spot that there was at least two other guards in the room with him. That's not what we wanted to have spotted. That doesn't help us. No, they were they were going to be there regardless. You didn't manifest them. It's just now, you know, like. By the way, there were two other fellows I noticed in the room.
01:15:12
Speaker
So we're going to have at least some. So we need to prep time to have some kind of a fight or we smash and grab and get out. Hob cracks his neck goes, well, I'm I'm prepped now, so. I mean, well, and if we start we start a fight here, won't like orient security get involved? If it's confined in that room and we do it quick and clean, then nobody's the wiser until they get to row at.
01:15:45
Speaker
But Orion doesn't have security. Like. It would be like Madonna or Deneath or doing detail on a a lightning like this. So, I mean, Raynard, your family is good at covertly getting into places you're not supposed to be in. You got any tips?
01:16:11
Speaker
I don't know about tips, but I think I have some ranks in something. Skullduggery. Isn't that like picking locks and stuff? Yeah, if you.
01:16:26
Speaker
Yeah, if you want to make a skullduggery check to try to think through how this job could be done in a way that's quiet and clean without causing too much of a ruckus, I'm going to spend a story point to upgrade it. And the difficulty is one red, one purple after my story point is spent. OK.
01:16:46
Speaker
Here we go. One success, one advantage. Yes. OK, Rainard. I did it. So with the advantage, you can recover one of the strain that you suffered earlier. All right. So. Yeah, you you think through that it would be possible.
01:17:07
Speaker
if essentially if somebody were to unlock the windows that nobody was obviously facing at that point, you feel like you and you and another individual or just a couple of people, it is possible that you all could deal with it.
01:17:36
Speaker
incapacitate the guards long enough to where somebody could hop in, grab the research and hop out. If you wanted to try and grab the guy, too, that would obviously be. Even more difficult, but based on the train car that you're in and the size and presuming that it's at least relatively the same size and dimensions,
01:18:00
Speaker
Based on your training, it would not be unreasonable to prep a, okay, we're on the outside of the train car, three, two, one, open windows, fire, while somebody runs in, grabs it, gets out, and nobody's aware of what's going on. So they might be aware that the research has been taken, but they would never know that it was you. So that is a possibility. Well, then I relay that information and I say, let's,
01:18:30
Speaker
Vote on it. I mean, that sounds like a better plan to kick the door in. But I'm all for a good kicky, kicky, stabby, stabby, so.
01:18:48
Speaker
We don't really want to stab anyone in this current current situation, right? I mean, I guess not. But we don't know where the research is within the compartment. Right. Yeah, no. OK. I mean, I mean, another obvious thing that Milo would have noticed is the guy carrying a large satchel on him. Oh, so like. I don't think I think Hobb abstains because I think they all like
01:19:17
Speaker
Hob is a hammer. Every problem looks like a nail. Like, I don't know, his thing would be, why don't I just punch out that guy, bust through the door. We take out the other two guys and get the research and put old TARDIS on it, train dead. I don't know, don't reach. That's why he's not saying that out loud. He will provide support for whatever
01:19:48
Speaker
type of mission you guys choose, and then he will also be right there when it inevitably goes pear-shaped. Okay, so the basic question is, and we can figure out the rest later, are you all going to attempt to do the thing in the train or outside of the train? What's your way of getting to the car that you need to get into? Are you gonna try to bluff your way past this guard or get into the car from the outside?
01:20:14
Speaker
That sounds more exciting. I don't. Hobbs not going outside. And then I guess that answers that question. Let me say it this way. Hobb doesn't want to hang on to the side of a train. I was thinking Hobb is almost certainly one of the best equipped to hang on to the outside of a train.
01:20:41
Speaker
I was looking at my coordination, which is none. His fingers are enormous. He can't get them in little cracks in the metal to wheeze your way around. Oh, you could be up top and just.
01:20:54
Speaker
Open the window. OK, OK. Reasonably, does Hobbs see a way that he could get on top of the train beside like is there was there a ladder on the outside of the train that he could just step out of his car and take the lead? Yeah, I mean, you all are near the back of the train so you could walk through the cars to the very back and then climb up the ladder like.
01:21:15
Speaker
I OK, Hob trusts his balance enough that he would get on top of the train. In my head, we were shimmying along the side of the train. No, there are so many windows like we still have to shimmy along the side of that car. Well, you could drop down. Yeah. OK, OK. Hob's on board. Then if you guys want to go outside, we can go outside. I think I'll go for a walk outside now.
01:21:43
Speaker
I'm muting him. Is that OK? They're going to change things much. What would it take for Aeris to cobble together a flashbang? A story point and a hard artifice check. Is it artifice or mechanics? I don't care. I just they're the same for me. I just. Yeah, we'll go into mechanics. That's fine. OK, like I said, they're exactly the same for me. I just don't care. But.
01:22:10
Speaker
OK, I've got your story points spent going. OK. This wouldn't have affected the very consequential role a minute ago, but per my inventor talent, I'm supposed to have a boost when I try to make stuff. So she would toss one of those into this because there aren't enough success on a boost to make up for how many failure I rolled. OK, mechanics. So Eris will pull out a bunch of
01:22:40
Speaker
I mean, Eris opens a compartment in her bag, which is the largest compartment in her bag. And it's just junk. It's just parts. And she pulls out a bunch of things and sets them on the bench or whatever the chair is like and begins to cobble some stuff together. So here we go. One advantage. Unreal. So no.
01:23:09
Speaker
What would you like to spend the advantage on? I don't know. I'll recover my point of strain. OK. OK. So you all can do any preparations while Eris is trying to complicate this flashbang, but we're going to jump to the part. Of you actually doing the thing. So yeah, any any last things you all want to do before embarking to walk to go for a walk outside now, as Raynard said, go back and spend some experience on coordination.
01:23:40
Speaker
Yeah, I'm sorry. OK, so or any physical movement skills by some magnet shoes. So you all in a like because you have a lot of time, you get up individually and start filtering back that way as to not draw a lot of suspicion by a large group of five people getting up and walking towards the back of the train. Say you all are back in the very back of the cargo
01:24:11
Speaker
car and open the door and you hear the rush of wind and you see the bright light as the landscape goes by you quickly, as you all begin climbing up onto the top of the train car, and it's a ladder, so you don't need to roll. Got your tester mask. Yep.
01:24:30
Speaker
So yeah, the wind is ripping by you as you all begin making your way as quietly as possible. But I mean, it's it's it's fairly thick material. It's not like you're walking in an air duct or anything claiming about. So you all are still on top of the cargo car. So you've just started everybody's back there when you see a figure climb up on the other end of the cargo. The end.
01:25:01
Speaker
The front, oh, oh, oh, also on the cargo. So in between, so like you all have just gotten up on the back and they climb up on the front and you see two women standing before you wearing Sentinel Marshall garb.
01:25:18
Speaker
And one of them has a smirk and a sword in one hand. They're twins, in fact. You see a pair of twins. Very fair skin, dirty blonde hair. The other one...
01:25:34
Speaker
appears to be in more magic usury type garb, and they are flinging around like a wand, a paintbrush, like splattering paint here and there. The one with the sword kind of gestures the sword at hot in Hobbs direction, it says. Really should have thought better before you messed with our little brother trick. End of episode.
01:26:00
Speaker
I feel like I told you this would happen. Quite specifically.
01:26:07
Speaker
Thank you all so much for listening. If you want to be part of the episode or part of the episode, you can't be. Actually, I mean, if you've seen the kind of people we let in here, you probably will have a pretty good shot. Hi. If you want to be part of the conversation, head on over to the Facebook group, The Geek Pantheon. We're also on Twitter and Instagram at The Geek Pantheon. And we have a Discord that you can find the link to on our Facebook group or on our website, TheGeekPantheon.com
01:26:33
Speaker
We also have a Patreon, patreon.com slash the pantheon with all kinds of fun tiers where you can do stuff with us. And we just opened up a new tier for twenty five dollars a month. You can play a board game and or one shot with us every month. So that's pretty neat. And yeah. So how can they play a board game with us? They don't live at your house.
01:26:55
Speaker
We're going to use stuff like tabletop simulator because the internet is great. So, yeah, we have we have copies of tabletop simulator for everybody that's part of the tier so they can play along with us. So, yeah. Anyway, thank you all so much for listening. Once again, I am your game master, Eric. I'm Philip. I'm Trevor. I'm Randy.
01:27:18
Speaker
I'm Jeff, and we'll see you next time.
