Introduction: Dr Nasheeda Thevarkad

International Medical Graduate Podcast
Welcome! A short introduction to the IMG Support Podcast series

Transcript

Speaker: Hello and welcome to the International Medical Graduate Support podcast series for the Thames Valley GP School. My name is Nasheeda Thevarkad and I'm a GP fellow for the International Medical Graduate Support for the year's 2024-25 cohort.

Speaker: Through this podcast series, my aim is to create a space where IMG trainees can hear real stories practical advice and words of encouragement from experienced GPs, educators and leaders who understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with training in the NHS.

Speaker: When I started this fellowship, I looked closely at the support already available for the IMG trainees from exam preparation to communication skills, linguistic training, and even cultural exchange initiatives.

Speaker: What became clear to me through conversations with IMG leads and trainees across the region was that while these resources are incredibly valuable, there was still a need for something more personal and accessible, a way to share experiences reflections and and reassurance in a format that fits into our busy lives.

Speaker: And that's how this podcast was born.

Speaker: Over the coming episodes, we'll be talking about the issues that matter most to IMGs, from building confidence and resilience to navigating cultural differences, reflecting on experiences and planning your career beyond gb training.

Speaker: So whether you're listening on your commute, between clinics, or during a quiet moment at home, I hope you'll find this podcast both supportive and inspiring.

Speaker: Above all, I want you to feel that you're not alone. There's a whole community walking this path alongside you. Thank you for tuning into this very first episode.
