Raiders' Coaching Staff Updates

00:00:24
Albert Nava
interrupting the schedule but we're excited we're here we should have made a valentine's day edition called it hot guys with cold takes but no hot takes with cool guys or cool guys with hot takes or hot cakes with syrup and all that other stuff okay all right to start the podcast just a quick refresher um Last week, talking about the Raiders, Clint Kubiak, and basically looking forward to his completing his staff.
00:01:01
Albert Nava
It looks like as of right now, i want to say most of our position coaches are are hired. um We have our our offensive coordinator. We have our defensive coordinator. Special teams coordinator.
00:01:14
Albert Nava
Running back. Right receivers. Defensive backs. Safeties. Special teams. Special teams. Looks like all we're missing right now is the O-line coach and a quarterback coach.
00:01:27
Albert Nava
O-line coach is going to be important. I'm also curious to see who they hire to be the water boys. and How... How do you feel that about Clint Kobiak's staff as of right now?
00:01:43
Albert Nava
I mean, we get excited with every announcement and you kind of look at, oh, they came from here, they came from there, and this is their philosophy. I mean, right now it's all exciting because we don't know what the end product going to be.
00:01:56
Albert Nava
And obviously we didn't follow these coaches in their careers. They're assistant coaches. But I'm excited that Mr. Kubiak is putting his stamp on the team.
00:02:08
Albert Nava
um We have no recourse but to trust him, but we obviously fully endorse his hiring, so this is the path that we're going to go, and I'm here for it.
00:02:24
Albert Nava
It seems like with every hire, like you said, they show us their timeline, either if it's college or NFL. And the main theme see is work with Klingkubiak. Work with Klingkubiak. That's true. There was always a previous tie with Kubiak. And that's one of the advantages of being a first new, well, not even first year head coach, but You get to pick your guys, right? Exactly. and you've built these connections throughout the years in the ranks that you've coached and you've learned to coach with people, people that you work with, people that you know are good at what they do, people that you feel that deserve a shot. The one that was interesting was the gentleman...
00:03:06
Albert Nava
You're gonna have to refresh my memory on what he was going to be the coach of but he actually followed Harbaugh to the Giants. Oh, yes. The defensive back coach, the defensive back coach. And he pretty much said, you know, Kubiak called him up. it's Hey, man, he can use you down here.
00:03:22
Albert Nava
I'm not sure if the offer was more. i'm not sure if the job was more appealing. But yeah, I mean, he said see it in New York. New York gave him permission mission yeah and blessing. and Which is I think is really cool. Yeah, it's really neat. It's probably seen it as a good opportunity. Matt Robinson.
00:03:40
Albert Nava
Mr. Matt Robinson. Very young guy. It's really cool. And then the other thing that came about was the official hiring of, is it Ray Leonard?
00:03:51
Albert Nava
No. Oh, the defensive coordinator? Yeah, who was actually our our run game or our defensive end coach. And people were theorizing.
00:04:04
Albert Nava
Speculating. Speculating. Conspirating. Lying. I'm just kidding. But the theory was, oh, well, he's really close with Max. Yeah.
00:04:16
Albert Nava
They must be doing this to appease Max Crosby. But if you look at the track record of this particular coach in this particular area of development of young players, he's done a really good job of getting some of these guys to really play well. with Some of the young defensive ends, some of the good pieces on that defensive line that were on this team.
00:04:41
Albert Nava
So I think he got credit and he earned the promotion. regardless of his relationship with Max. I believe that Max Crosby's situation is still a fluid one. We won't know until we know, but as of right now, he is a Raider.
00:04:58
Albert Nava
And if you ask me right now, I think the chances of him staying are kind of at this point. I saw a report today from... um Adam Schefter. Again, Adam Schefter is one of the main names that broke this report.
00:05:13
Albert Nava
um Basically what the Raiders are looking for, or even if they want to consider trading Max Crosby as a Michael Parsons trade.

Raiders' Trade Speculation and Draft Strategy

00:05:21
Albert Nava
um And that could look like two first rounds and an impactful player.
00:05:26
Albert Nava
um And I just, a lot of people I guess he he feels a lot of people in the league aren't willing to give that price. And so if that's the case, the Raiders aren't even going to consider moving Max Crosby. Yeah, I don't think it's a the Raiders don't have the the the approach. No, well, the approach no, we're not we're not even going to have those discussions. If the right deal presents itself, they're going to listen and they might do it. I'm hearing a lot of proposed
00:05:57
Albert Nava
It seems like the impact player that you speak of is a wide receiver. oh he's there's um There's a mock trade that I've seen a lot. and To me, it's not not worth it. It's to the Chicago Bears. yes It's DJ Moore and a first-round pick for Max Crosby, I love DJ Moore. DJ Moore's a great wide receiver.
00:06:19
Albert Nava
I just feel like the prior our Max Crosby, is for his position, is... i mean I want to compare him to, I guess, like a Justin Jefferson, a Pukunukua, Jamar Chase in their respective position.
00:06:36
Albert Nava
DJ Moore, to me, is not Max Crosby-like in his position. um Max Crosby probably top five defensive player in the NFL. If it was two number ones in DJ Moore, might be different conversation. exactly But if you the the maybe we on one sign Then you know that it's kind of one-sided if that's the just one pick and DJ Moore is Bears' Twitter is just like completely all over that. yeah oh yeah, yeah. We'll do it. We'll do it really quickly. Yeah, yeah of course, because they know what they're getting and they know what they're giving up.
00:07:10
Albert Nava
So, yeah. I mean, there's a lot of different speculation out there. What's actually true or not is this is really going to be I think it will happen. i think if we get to the draft It won't happen. Yeah, it won't happen.
00:07:25
Albert Nava
think it to Certainly it won't happen during the draft. don't think so. I think if we make it past day one. Of the draft? Yeah. Yeah. So assuming no one tried trades us that their first run pick this year. oh ah Keep it on on Raiders raider talk. A lot of people on FS1, Fox Sports.
00:07:44
Albert Nava
One of my favorite per p sports um people listen to, Colin Coward. um want to say he gives a stamp of approval of Fernando Mendoza, but is cautious to the Las Vegas organization.
00:07:59
Albert Nava
And one of his most recent takes this week is... um basically stats regarding quarterback pressure and how that affected Geno Smith this year and basically criticizing the offensive offensives line um beyond that protects the quarterback.
00:08:19
Albert Nava
But my thing is, sorry, Dad, I guess I feel like that's too it's too preliminary right now to even consider how bad our offensive line is when we're still Two months away from the draft and about 20 days away from free agency. like I feel like that is exactly what we're headed towards to fixing.
00:08:42
Albert Nava
And I just feel like Colin Cowherd may be overreacting. It's not just Cowherd. All right. Right. I've seen people on Speak for Yourself or something. they It's so horrible. They are proposing that we trade away the first pick because we have so many gaps in our roster.
00:09:00
Albert Nava
So I guess they want us to fix our roster and then get a franchise quarterback. No. I mean, that could be a plan. But I think any team that's in the situation to draft a franchise quarterback is not already ready to succeed.
00:09:18
Albert Nava
i think it's kind of and some of these talking heads, i'm just I don't know if they're just saying this to get attention or what, but we have the second most cap space in the NFL.
00:09:32
Albert Nava
We have all of our draft picks at our disposal to include the number one draft pick. We're hiring a whole new coaching staff. Now I will say this as a Raider fan till I die, or a Raider fan till I die is the fan part.
00:09:47
Albert Nava
Our offensive line was ass. It was cheeks. It was deplor... was horrible. But there were a lot of factors with that. I think our coaching was sucked. The coach was Carol's kid.
00:10:00
Albert Nava
like there there were That was just a no-win situation. So I do not believe that... and It's possible. You're winning Mendoza. We might have some problems.
00:10:12
Albert Nava
But I mean, you know sometimes you got to be bad to get better. um And I think in this day and age, 2026, the NFL has proven that changes happen from one season to the next.
00:10:27
Albert Nava
And I think with Clint Kubiak and his staff in place, the leadership giving more responsibility to Spitech, obviously see Tom Brady being involved. i don't know if you saw this, the entire offensive line of the Cleveland Browns is going to available. Yes, I saw that for the first time. I want to say that first time. Maybe maybe first time, yes.
00:10:46
Albert Nava
I know one of their offensive linemen today, he and I he announced that he will not be returning. um Hopefully, an option for the Raiders.
00:10:59
Albert Nava
um Obviously, a lot of great offensive are a lot of free agent linemen this offseason. One that comes to mind, and I'm sure you've heard the name, Ed. He was the center for...
00:11:10
Albert Nava
um the Baltimore Ravens last year. And so a lot of people think, um, he will be following Jim Harpelt to the New York giants. His name is Tyler litter bomb center.
00:11:23
Albert Nava
And so I think that should be one of our targets this year. Again, fixing off the line. We have Colton Miller left guard. And then we have Jackson Power Johnson. I know he played a bit of center this year, but they also moved him inside. so again, just curious to see how that works out.
00:11:42
Albert Nava
That's one of the raging targets that hopefully we're able to get a look at. I did see that he's looking maybe around 20 million a year. Pretty, pretty expensive. But again, it could be worth it at the end of day with Ashton Gentile, Fernando Mendoza.
00:11:56
Albert Nava
um What about a free agent to you, Dad? What web free agent kind of sits sticks out to you that could be a priority for the Las Vegas Raiders? And if anything, you can just say position. Well, the the main areas of need are offensive line, wide receiver, and quarterback.
00:12:14
Albert Nava
um and i'm just gonna stay on my soapbox off it the quarterback is one of our biggest needs so if we have the opportunity to draft a franchise quarterback granted in a weak quarterback class there's nothing wrong with it and i think next we adjust the offensive line and then obviously we'll look for a wide receiver from what i understand pierce the wide receiver free agent market yeah alex pierce is on that list is you know there's some people there and then obviously i think in the draft biller there'll be some opportunities so yeah i don't have anybody in mind even free agents i'm like h mike evans is staying with the bucks um so he's announced that he's coming back for his 13th season um as of right now he's a free agent so we don't know he could be
00:13:04
Albert Nava
people are theorizing is going to go to the Baltimore Ravens or Tennessee Titans where veteran receivers go to die. yeah i i'm i'm I don't want I'd like to have a a wide receiver who's maybe still in his late 20s.
00:13:19
Albert Nava
Obviously, we're not expecting a Jamar Chase to be available or a T. Higgins or or anything like that. but I mean, and I don't want to go chasing after Tyreek Hill. And luckily, the Raiders have not been mentioned at all. Speaking of Tyreek Hill, Tyreek Hill was just released by the Miami Dolphins on Monday or Tuesday. It was Monday, President's Day. That's right, Monday. The Miami Dolphins woke up and said, hey, how can we do all these changes and nobody will notice? We'll do it on a holiday.

Free Agency Targets for the Raiders

00:13:47
Albert Nava
But this is the NFL. They could have done it on Christmas and people would have still given it the attention.
00:13:52
Albert Nava
Another few people that Dolphins are trying to get rid of. For sure, they also released Bradley Chubb, former Denver Bronco defensive player. They're looking to unload Tua Tugalova, quarterback, and Micah Fitzpatrick, looking for trade targets. um Bradley Chubb would be an interesting choice for the Raiders to pair up with Max Crosby.
00:14:14
Albert Nava
Again, not priority for me, but it'd be pretty cool at ah the right price. Going back to right receiver, i don't know if we talked about this last podcast, that but Romeo Dobbs. romeo dobs is available um i would not mind the raiders getting romeo dobs um every time i would see the packers play i feel like romeo dobs was always open he was almost number one choice this year given that jayden jayden reed um had an injury matthew golden the rookie didn't have a great year and was also banged up and tucker craft exactly all of them i'm so um
00:14:50
Albert Nava
was able to kind of highlight how well Romeo Dobbs is in the passing game. So one right receiver name to look out for. We mentioned Rashid Shahid, Alec Pierce, and Romeo Dobbs. You know that Rashid Shahid connection with Clint Kubiak is very interesting because obviously they were together in New Orleans.
00:15:09
Albert Nava
They utilized him quite a bit there. And then I'm more than sure the reason he ended up in Seattle was because of Kubiak. So now I'm wondering if Now that he's a free agent. Right.
00:15:21
Albert Nava
He might make that next move. i I'm a little hesitant on Rashid Shahid just because I feel like we've we've seen his basically party trick. He's just a not just. He is a spread the field wide, go deep kind of receiver speed, of course.
00:15:39
Albert Nava
great Great special teams guy too. So great. Would help I guess, in that aspect as well. But I don't know. I don't know if paying him that much money is worth it to me. I don't think it is.
00:15:52
Albert Nava
um Another thing that's come out is that the Raiders might look to drafting one of Fernando Mendoza's wide receiver teammates from Indiana, whether that be Cooper or Surratt.
00:16:04
Albert Nava
But do they know that our offensive line is in shambles and they're never going to get the ball because Fernando's going to get sacked? Exactly. It's just nonsense. It's dumb. like i can't I'm just like the voice of reason in my head.
00:16:19
Albert Nava
It's almost like nobody wants the Raiders to pick for none. I just i i don't get it. I don't understand. It just seems like it's the obvious choice to be the number one pick overall, but of course because the Raiders have to pick, it's maybe you should trade the number one pick. I don't remember anybody in the NFL that was so bad.
00:16:38
Albert Nava
to get the number one pick in the draft without making any trades that had an amazing ready-made offensive line. i just If you look at Joe Burrow couple years ago in 2020, perfect example. He actually ended up touring his RCO because of how bad his offensive line was.
00:16:57
Albert Nava
I mean, Drake made last year sacked quarterback in the playoffs. I think he broke the record. 56 sacks, I believe, in one postseason. He... He even broke the record in a game. don't know. Not 56. That's pretty crazy. know Maybe in the season. And then he broke the record in the playoffs. think it was 18. So I don't know if you saw this. I'm going to give you the name quarterbacks taking number one overall since 2001. I won't go back all the way to 2001.
00:17:26
Albert Nava
But 2001 was Michael Vick. Pretty good guy. So I'm going to start at, actually, Matthew Stafford, 2009. Cam Newton, 11. Andrew Luck, 12. All Super Bowl MVP. I mean, all MVPs. Everyone you've listed is over. Cam Newton. Yeah, I'm kind of i'm cherry picking. I'm not mentioning the bust. I mean, David Carr is in there. Alex Smith, who serves the ball.
00:17:48
Albert Nava
Here's one that Raider fans remember, Joe Marcus Russell. That's the last time we picked a quarterback number one. So, God damn it, it's our turn. Joe Burrow in 2020, Trevor Lawrence in 21, Bryce Young in 23, Caleb Williams in 24, Cam Ward in 25. Still to be determined whether what what happens with him.
00:18:06
Albert Nava
And then, obviously, 2026 should be the year of Fernando Mendoza. So, I have no problem whatsoever taking a quarterback. Al, if you're listening to this podcast, I don't agree with you.
00:18:17
Albert Nava
We draft Fernando Mendoza. I agree. The choice is simple. Yeah. Why are we overthinking this? Yeah. We got to get our French's guy, and then we got to build around him.
00:18:28
Albert Nava
Yes. um Now on to more NFL more spread NFL Danny me throw you some trade ideas that have been circulated around the league Obviously Kyler Murray quarterback as of right now the Arizona Cardinals um Looking to get rid of Kyler Murray And some a trade destination would be the New York Jets.
00:18:50
Albert Nava
How would you feel about that? How do you feel that would work for Kyler Murray? and how And what do you think his price would be obviously a former first-round pick? The price would not be too much. I would think maybe fifth round, third round picks. I don't know. Okay.
00:19:09
Albert Nava
I don't know. Kyler Murray, I know nobody wants to talk about this, but his size is a limiting factor. And then it looks like his overall commitment to football is a little bit weird, right? Yeah, because he's a gamer. Yeah, he's got that. Nothing wrong with that, you know?
00:19:27
Albert Nava
Yeah. I just, I don't know. And once again, you brought up Kyler Murray and somebody I know very close and dear to my heart, Raider fans, like, hey, why don't we pick up, why don't we trade the number one pick and what do you think of Kyler Murray?
00:19:44
Albert Nava
I'm like, no. Like, no Like, I just, but for the Jets sake, so you essentially be going from Justin Fields to Kyler Murray. Yeah.
00:19:56
Albert Nava
don't know. It's kind of hard, huh? Yeah. i don't To me, it's not I don't think it's a a team improvement trade. It's like a lateral move. Yeah, it's a lateral move. If anything, you're getting smaller. Yeah, exactly. I mean, I don't know. it's a the name of the coach is escaping me. Aaron Glenn. Aaron Glenn. I guess. I don't know. It just doesn't.
00:20:21
Albert Nava
What do you think Aaron Glenn's on the hot seat next year? I do think. I think a lot of people are surprised that he is still employed after last year. I'm not. yeah He took over yeah a shit team.
00:20:32
Albert Nava
and He traded to his two-star player? Yeah, they're essentially in rebuild yeah mode. I'm wondering if they made any pitches to the Mators to get the number one pick.
00:20:43
Albert Nava
But, yeah, I don't think and I think he'll survive another bad year this year too. a I honestly think that they are who they are and they're just going rebuild and they're the same old Jets until they're not.
00:20:57
Albert Nava
Another name floated to the Jets would be Derek Carr coming out of retirement. Oh, yeah. Good old D.C. So another thing to look out for. i did recently see, though, in Derek Carr's podcast that he would be willing to come out of retirement, but... He needs to be able to contend. Exactly. Exactly. so Or somewhere he wants to go. so that's basically Las Vegas or somebody that's going to make the playoffs. Exactly.
00:21:20
Albert Nava
so Another trade regarding a quarterback? Well, right. Before we can move on, there to my knowledge, there isn't a team that's in the running or has a good outlook to make the playoffs that currently needs a quarterback.
00:21:36
Albert Nava
Right. So I don't think there's really he's kind of eliminated almost. I mean the Vikings? The Vikings would be interesting. Vikings would be very interesting, yes. And like the exact polar opposite of that is the Jets. So the Jets, no.
00:21:51
Albert Nava
The Vikings, got to think of at least one more. I mean, the Cardinals were not mean, I don't know if the Cardinals the Cardinals, i mean, they had Jacoby Brissett, I mean, was he was slinging it. And they were in games, but I mean, I don't know. Oh, Jacoby Brissett was a fantasy superstar. But um but Yeah, I don't know. I think the Vikings are an intriguing option.
00:22:15
Albert Nava
I don't know going to stick with McCarthy. Maybe the... Oh, Pittsburgh. There you go. Pittsburgh. That's a good one. I could see Derek. Believe it or not, I could see him being with Mike McCarthy.
00:22:27
Albert Nava
If Aaron Rodgers didn't work out. So those are those are the two teams that I think I can see yeah DC contributing. If they actually have aspirations, they have talent in place to make a playoff run.
00:22:39
Albert Nava
Speaking of the Vikings, another trade idea would be Mack Jones, who is currently the backup in San Francisco, to the Minnesota Vikings. That gentleman made himself some really good He looked pretty good this year. Yeah, he did. in in in certain and When he went in for Purdy, he did really good. I don't know what his exact record was, but he looked really good.
00:22:57
Albert Nava
I think if you were He's literally like Sam Darnold 2.0. Exactly. Same situation. Similar situation. He's in San Francisco. He's been on multiple teams. I think he's... I think he's prime for a starting quarterback role. He's prime for a starting role. He earned himself some money with his backup performance.
00:23:17
Albert Nava
and Another one, A.J. Brown from the Eagles to the Broncos. o As of right now, um the Denver Broncos made the AFC Championship game, as you know. Bo Nix broke his ankle, second to last play of the game.
00:23:31
Albert Nava
Some wide receivers to note on that team are his Corlett Sutton. We have... I'm forgetting his first name. Marvin Mims Jr. Marvin. Marvin.
00:23:43
Albert Nava
Oh, my God. He's going to kill me. There was another right receiver this year that that did really well. Can't remember right now. We have Evan Ingram as a tight end. So, to me, think got to get ourselves a research staff on this podcast. You guys don't like us enough. We leave any reviews so we can't generate any revenue. Yeah.
00:24:02
Albert Nava
But I would think that would be and interesting um and to see what the Eagles do. Can you tell me any any grumblings about Buffalo finally trying to get a number one right? The next one of my list. Thank you very much. nice so A segue.
00:24:17
Albert Nava
One, the Bills, it would be it would include the Bills and the Jags. It would be Brian Thomas Jr. to the Buffalo Bills for Keon Coleman in the first round pick.
00:24:29
Albert Nava
That is like a mock trade. who's Who's the number one? Is he the number one? No, he's not the number one now. Who was the number one? Parker Washington. so So right now the Jags have they traded for Jacoby Myers during the season.
00:24:43
Albert Nava
They have Parker Washington. And they have Travis Hunter who is playing half cornerback, half receiver. So basically, Brian Thomas Jr. is the new Christian Kirk.
00:24:54
Albert Nava
Exactly. Odd man out. Yeah. Christian Kirk is also available, free agent-wise anyway. Yeah. That's an interesting trait. Interesting huh? Yeah. I like Brian Thomas. i love Brian Thomas.
00:25:12
Albert Nava
So that, uh, interesting idea. Um, I do agree that Buffalo is, um, in need of a wide receiver one, by the way, not to point stuff, something else that you got wrong when we were listed the vacancies.
00:25:24
Albert Nava
One on one, we didn't miss buff. We missed Buffalo and, uh, missed a hittsburg at Pittsburgh. Yeah. I was counting back. I heard eight. The high profile ones. Yeah. I was literally, with say I was like, this yeah, I two. Oh, we missed Buffalo. But anyways, you get it.
00:25:41
Albert Nava
Um, Yeah, and I think there's a lot of pressure for them to get a number one because Brandon Bean, don't know how he survived this firing cycle because if I'm going to fire... his name's escaping me.
00:25:58
Albert Nava
McDermott, I'm also firing Bean. There are some terrible decisions made in that front office as far as i mean what Josh Allen needs around him. we But what I heard was...
00:26:09
Albert Nava
couple weeks before the playoffs Mike Mike no Sean McDermott went to ownership and said that they don't have the talent to make it all these room so so well this came out a couple weeks after they're fired but that he basically told the front office like hey like we are not we don't have the talent to go to go deep in blouses here so um I think it was like a a Hail Mary of Sean McDermott to kind of save his job to, I guess, to admit the front office that this roster was not, hadn't been have the talent enough to go deep in the playoffs.
00:26:49
Albert Nava
And honestly, the Buffalo Bills, maybe in the last six years, have been
00:26:56
Albert Nava
Disappointment in the playoffs. Almost reminding us of the 90s Bills. You know, the irony of of him saying that, they were just a couple plays away from being in the AFC Championship. Oh, yeah. And then, i mean, everybody talks about the Patriots luck, but if they had ended up in that game, yeah, they have played the Patriots. They would have played the Patriots in New England. Wow.
00:27:17
Albert Nava
Which we did mention. Wow. that weekend of the AFC Championship game, New England was scheduled to have 10 inches of snow that Sunday. So it would have been crazy weather. I think Buffalo would have won that think Buffalo would have won. And I think Buffalo would have given a a more fighting chance than the Super Bowl.
00:27:37
Albert Nava
oh that would have been a spectacular Super Bowl. Yeah, that would have been offense comment. I don't know why he did that. I think the roster no, he's right. The roster wasn't there, but somehow I think they would have had an opportunity.
00:27:48
Albert Nava
Yeah. Another interesting NFL topic that broke this morning, Patrick Mahomes restructured his contract for the salary cap this year.

NFL Contract Restructures: Mahomes Example

00:27:59
Albert Nava
He was a $71 million cap hit and now down to a $30 million cap hit. So saving about $42 million in cap space. Kermit's still getting his money. Do you think... Exactly, right? It's not... it's not Yeah, let's not try to make him... I mean, good move on their part, smart, but...
00:28:19
Albert Nava
That money will be there. yeah Yeah, Mahomes isn't sacrificing Jack. He's just... moving around some numbers and when he gets that money. But I mean, either way, still a good team guy. you think they're going to go after Tyreek Hill?
00:28:30
Albert Nava
I don't know. I was reading a scenario where, oh my God, and where else would Tyreek Hill want to go? the Casey just cleared up some space. This is going to reinvigorate my homes.
00:28:43
Albert Nava
Kelsey is going to reconsider retirement and come back for one more ride. I just don't think. I think I'm calling it I respect the hell out of the Kansas City Chief organization as much as I hate them as a rival, but they're smart.
00:28:59
Albert Nava
I do not think they're going to go for part two because Tyreek Hill is now 32, I think. He's coming off. A terrible injury. Yes, which is, at the very least, he will at least lose a step. And his primary asset was his speed, so he's not going to be as fast.
00:29:20
Albert Nava
He was already declining before he got hurt. So I just, I don't see it as, if someone's going to pick him up. Yeah. But I honestly don't think, I don't think that front office is going buy it.
00:29:32
Albert Nava
Okay. That's my opinion. I am, uh, I am worried as a Raider fan that the Chiefs will get their running back in the draft for, um, Jeremiah Love. Um, been looking at a lot of, uh, mock drafts this year. Um, top 10 seems to look solid.
00:29:50
Albert Nava
Um, a lot offensive players, defensive players. Um, again, very scared as a Raider fan, but again, uh, hopefully we're able to keep Max, Max Crosby.
00:30:01
Albert Nava
Um,
00:30:04
Albert Nava
Right? I lost my train of thought. Sorry. So as did I. We're talking about hating the Chiefs and they're going to better again because of the running back situation. Oh, that's another thing.
00:30:15
Albert Nava
Why do we think they're... Are they in the market for... Running back? Yeah. Yeah, their running game last year was not... Are they going to be in the market for... Who's the guy that I recommended for the Cowboys? and you're like, nah, I still prefer Javante. Oh, fantasy football talk. If they got... Can I? Can I? No, no. um Somebody else who I like a lot.
00:30:34
Albert Nava
Oh, yeah. Brees Hall. Oh, yeah. Even if Brees Hall was on the Cowboys, you still like Well, if Javante Williams is there, yeah, I feel like it's not. So, Brees Hall with the Chiefs.
00:30:46
Albert Nava
Oh, God. I've seen Travis Etienne too. oh Brees Hall is still a young, man. Yeah. And he can still I mean, he's he's a quality back. And I think put him on the Chiefs, oh, my goodness.
00:30:57
Albert Nava
I think I would love Brees Hall to go to the Arizona Cardinals. It's looking like James Conner might be a cut this year. And Arizona is in need of a running back.
00:31:10
Albert Nava
So I wouldn't mind that. I would love for Travis Etienne to stay with Jacksonville. Is he a free agent? He's a free agent. Travis Etienne and Trevor Lawrence, college teammates for Clemson.
00:31:22
Albert Nava
I would love to keep them together. I think that Jacksonville is looking to keep Travis Etienne because of who they traded during the season to Eagles training basically Travis Etienne's backup.
00:31:35
Albert Nava
Tank Bigsby to the Philadelphia Eagles. Yeah, but that Jacksonville run game, they had that one guy that... That one-two punch, huh? Yeah. His name is escaping me.
00:31:46
Albert Nava
And don't even ask me his jersey number because you don't matter if I'm with that. I want to say he was number 33. He was... And that was the one thing about that one game. Why did they stop running the ball against Buffalo?
00:31:56
Albert Nava
And they're up. Yeah. But I'm with you. I hope he stays with... here's brendan but but sorry bright b brisel tuon yeah number three three tuin use blue the tuing He was all over the field. Yeah.
00:32:11
Albert Nava
Guy was averaging like 8 yards a carry in that game. Unbelievable. Um... So, yeah, a lot of interesting things are going to happen. I wonder, because the Chiefs are obviously going to be now in, not necessarily rebuild, but reload mode.
00:32:24
Albert Nava
I'm trying to think what wide receivers they still have. Speaking of wide receivers, Rasheed Rice, yeah their number one. His baby mama just filed a civil lawsuit against him for domestic violence, asking for around $1 million. Oh, that's it?
00:32:41
Albert Nava
Yeah. Wow. Again, Rishi Rice little backstory when she rise into hit and run in dallas that was that caused him to have sort of a six game suspension this year and led the kent city chiefs to wear a free rishi rice shirt because apparently the law doesn't apply to terrible nfl players it's a bad look very bad luck very very stupid and irresponsible um so to me this makes me i mean ah
00:33:16
Albert Nava
i'm I'm happy that the the Chiefs are experiencing dysfunction. Obviously, the Raiders are no... No. Yeah, but we weren't wearing free Henry Rugg shirts. Oh, my God. it But it would basically be the same thing. It'd be terrible. The only difference was is no one died. Yeah. unfortunately Fortunately. Fortunately, no one died in Sydney. in Yeah. But it wasn't even just a wreck.
00:33:37
Albert Nava
It was that they had guns in the car and they had to get them and they took off from the scene. yep it's It's not a good look. Yeah. just... i just
00:33:49
Albert Nava
So maybe transitioning over to some MLB talk.

Fantasy Baseball League Excitement

00:33:55
Albert Nava
My dad and I are starting our own fantasy baseball league. I'm very excited. You've never played fantasy baseball? I have played one season of fantasy baseball.
00:34:05
Albert Nava
ah can I can't even remember how good I did. I just remember it being very long. You know, it have been two seasons. It was all right. It's the everyday. Yeah. I didn't see football is already kind of time consuming enough and it's one game a week or one week of games.
00:34:21
Albert Nava
This is an everyday, literally, that you will literally have someone playing every single day. Yeah. Which, let's write up Sam's alley because... He wants to be able to have action every single day. Yes. i um Transiting to my new ah job, being an office job, being that I'm able to actually look at my phone during the workday, I'm looking to fill the void of fantasy football.
00:34:48
Albert Nava
If his employer is listening to this podcast, that's not what he really needs. So, yes, I'm very excited fantasy baseball. I understand it's going to be I guess not as exciting as football, right? The urgency in the NFL is you can't can replicate that in other sports.
00:35:07
Albert Nava
um Maybe the only equivalent would be March Madness. March Madness is coming up. Very excited. um But, yes, very excited. I've never played fantasy baseball. Looking for any advice to our two listeners if they've ever played Well, love, if you to share some advice.
00:35:25
Albert Nava
um Have you told anybody the podcast is back? Yeah, I've mentioned it. put on the socials. i I did talk to Miguel Lopez, a friend of the show. Friend of the show. He would love to come on.
00:35:40
Albert Nava
He said last week two in two weeks. Oh, so you're going to tell us when he can be on. Yeah, exactly. Oh. He he wants to talk NFL draft. <unk>s great He's very excited. He's very am. He's a Colts fan.
00:35:52
Albert Nava
Yes. um Another guest or another friend of the show, my wife's friend from high school, Josh Mariscay. Yes, good old Giants fan. He would love to be on the show.
00:36:04
Albert Nava
So, yes, we do have we're occurring guests coming back. Very happy to be on the show. have one I want to invite. The aforementioned Alfonso Rivas. I think he has a really good take on On the world of sports, we don't agree all the time. We agree to disagree, but I value his opinion.
00:36:22
Albert Nava
Also, we're going to start getting our um kindtay football fantasy league guys in here and chopping it up and talking some smack. and Yeah. With the weekly matchups. Yes. As a matter of fact, Alfonso would be the first guest.
00:36:36
Albert Nava
that is in that league and maybe we can recap the ah championship game that was. That's true. But it was played between the the Raiders fantasy football team and team 5150. Yep.
00:36:47
Albert Nava
We already discussed who won that game. No need to linger. ah But yeah, baseball, fantasy baseball is going be fun. i think I think our league is at eight. Eight, yes. We've got a good combination a lot of demographic age-wise across the board.
00:37:02
Albert Nava
I'm wondering we're going to have divisions. Is it going be like the old heads against the... Oh, speaking of, just really quick, we don't talk about the NBA very often, but did you have a chance to, at least, we were together during the All-Star game, but did you see the reaction based on the game and the format?
00:37:21
Albert Nava
It was pretty positive. I liked it. enjoyed it. I i think right off the bat, it was, I don't know if they were the Stripes or the Stars, but it was the Red USA team versus war the World. um That first game. that Kawhi Leonard's game?
00:37:36
Albert Nava
No, that was Anthony Edwards' first game. Just seeing the energy from Victor Wemenyaba coming out. aggressive. I think that really inspired Anthony Edwards to come out and play hard. and he said They set the tone. yeah they though Those two players, I believe, set the tone for the rest of the day.
00:37:55
Albert Nava
i thoroughly enjoyed it. um I know that the and NBA right now, as much as we give the NFL shit, the NBA right now, maybe for the last 10-15 years, had very international, having games in Japan, Mexico,
00:38:12
Albert Nava
And then obviously a lot of our best players are international players. I want to say that if you can look up the last maybe like six MVPs in the NBA and the last six are all international players including Shea Gillis-Alexander,
00:38:31
Albert Nava
um um Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nicole Jokic, I believe twice. And that's the talent that was missing on the world team.
00:38:42
Albert Nava
Exactly, right? Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jokic wasn't playing very hard, and basically Luka Doncic, who's never won an MVP, but I believe one day he will.
00:38:53
Albert Nava
So I think it's a great strategy and opportunity for the NBA to exploit basically that the NBA university right now. Yeah, I feel like the NBA is being taken over by international players. Yeah.
00:39:07
Albert Nava
So I liked it a lot.

NBA International Influence and All-Star Formats

00:39:09
Albert Nava
I personally, i want the NBA to be more, I guess I want our best player blaird again to be American. LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant.
00:39:18
Albert Nava
But i cannot I cannot take away any credit from them. Victor Webinjava probably in a couple years is going be the best player in the world, MVP. i'm i'm sure I'm sure one day he's going to win MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, and I would not be mad.
00:39:31
Albert Nava
Great offensive player, great defensive player. um But, I mean, I'm excited for Cooper Flagg. I'm excited for the future. Cooper Flagg, hopefully to be MVP, world champion one day, and to lead our Team USA to another gold medal game.
00:39:48
Albert Nava
But I liked it. and I liked it a lot. i just I appreciate good, hard basketball. That's why a lot of times these days college basketball is the way to go. i was talking to you the other day about Duke and North Carolina. oh What a great game.
00:40:01
Albert Nava
um i want to say I want to say Carlos Buzer's sons were in that game. Oh, yeah. i can't I can't tell you their name, their first names, but... Boozer is a good... ah Boozer, yeah. The Boozer Brothers. The Boozer Bros. um Which, ironically, that could be paired up with Cooper Flag next year.
00:40:20
Albert Nava
You know what's interesting? Very dangerous. Another thing that's happening in the NBA is the overwhelming tanking that's happening. oh And I was ignorant to it. I know it happens every year, but apparently this year it's happening like at an alarming rate.
00:40:34
Albert Nava
And I discovered why. This draft is like loaded yeah with talent. yeah like Supposedly anybody in the first round is going to be like amazing. Yeah, exactly. Difference makers to include the Boozer Brothers. Right. um So it's going to be very interesting to see what happens.
00:40:56
Albert Nava
um I don't know. Maybe I have the confidence that they're the best players will always be from American soil. It's more just a patriotic thing, right? don't think it's something personal.
00:41:07
Albert Nava
I think it's really cool. that I think the NBA learned from hockey. Because when hockey did their all-star game and they did the it was like an international tournament. It went great.
00:41:20
Albert Nava
The championship was Canada and the US s and it was back and forth. They were just beating each other up and it was it did great ratings for hockey. So I think this is going to have the same impact. Hopefully the world team could be more complete because then we'll actually see what we want to see.
00:41:36
Albert Nava
And I mean, basically also Team USA, Steph Curry was out. yeah the old heads The old heads were missing some guys. Cooper Flagg was out. Kyrie Irving was out. and Oh yeah. Yeah.
00:41:46
Albert Nava
So a lot of a yeah a lot a lot of people on both sides. um But to to my dad's point, some um rookies coming out of this year's draft, Darren Peterson, A.J. Depansta, Cameron Boozer, de pana Caleb Wilson, Kingston Flemings, Mike Brown Jr., Keaton Wagler, Darius Akouf, all averaged the most points per game by a freshman in their school's history.
00:42:17
Albert Nava
So, as of right now, Dallas is projected to pick seventh in the draft. um So, again, any of those players to be paired with Cooper Flag next year. Kyrie Irving came out this morning that they're shutting him down for the season.
00:42:30
Albert Nava
Coming off an ACL tear last year. um So I get excited for Dallas's future. Kyrie Irving, Cooper Flag, Max Christine, Derek Lively, P.J. Washington. I'm sorry, P.J. Walker.
00:42:44
Albert Nava
Yeah. Yeah. P.J. No, P.J. Washington. nothing thing it be P.J. Washington. and washington is the other Yeah. zi So future. very excited for the dallas for dallas' future um I don't watch a lot of NBA, Dad. i don't know if you do. Who do you feel is the best team this year? do you think has the best chance to take Again, this is a sports talk radio only influence because I don't watch the NBA as much as I used to. But...
00:43:13
Albert Nava
The best team hands down right now, in my opinion, is still your the the defending world champion, Oklahoma City Thunder. But I do think that there are some landmines in their way to repeating San Antonio Spurs, which I believe have beaten them, I think, five out of seven times. They've played that many times? Yeah. They've played at least six or seven times.
00:43:36
Albert Nava
An extra game was because of the cup, the NBA, the stupid eight-season tournament, which is not on the schedule technically. But, yeah, they have played that many times. Denver Nuggets, I think, are still going to be strong.
00:43:48
Albert Nava
Nobody remembers, but the Denver Nuggets took the Thunder to seven in the playoffs last year. That's what they were kind of banged up. They were out like two starters. Anyhoo. So that's the West.
00:44:00
Albert Nava
Don't forget anthony to end the Ant-Ant-Words. Oh, these yes. The Timberwolves. The West in general, one through like six. Yeah, the Rockets. I won't be surprised if any of those guys challenge the Oklahoma City Thunder. at the end of the day, I think they will still come out on top. On the West, on the East, it's a little bit more wide open.
00:44:17
Albert Nava
I never expected the Celtics to be as good as they are without jalen i'm sorry without Jason Tatum. Jalen Brown is just that guy. And supposedly they still might get Tatum. Yeah. Nothing's official yet. The Knicks are there, but I don't know. And then the Pistons.
00:44:33
Albert Nava
I love the Pistons. The Pistons. Katie Cunningham. Just machine. Yes, I'm excited. I hope ah I would not mind giving me any of San Antonio Spurs versus Detroit Pistons finals. Cool.
00:44:45
Albert Nava
It's like a hard hat series right there. That would be awesome. Or give me the Minnesota Timberwolves. mine That's my NBA Finals. we got ah i mean Those two stars, Kate Gunniam and Anthony Edwards, former number one picks, would be great for the league.
00:45:03
Albert Nava
um I think i think that that's my Finals. What say you, Dad? what What's your final number as of right now? I'm going to stay with the Thunder just because kept on...
00:45:14
Albert Nava
tooting their horn. Thunder and I will go in the East. I will go with the... You know, I'm going to ride with the Young the young Pistons. Okay. So Oklahoma City and Detroit in the finals.
00:45:28
Albert Nava
Again, i don't think it's going to be what big markets want. Right. So it's going to be another one of those series. People are going to tell you on TV that it's not good for the league. Yeah.
00:45:42
Albert Nava
But, yeah, it's almost going to be is what the Dodgers are to baseball, you know?

Dodgers' Spring Training Updates

00:45:47
Albert Nava
ah Speaking of the Dodgers, the Dodgers are are they at full swing in spring training?
00:45:53
Albert Nava
Yes. All the rest of the position players have been reporting to all spring training facilities, both in Arizona and Florida. um The Dodgers are...
00:46:05
Albert Nava
Are getting in gear? There's going be some missing pieces to start the season. I believe Tommy Edmonds is going to start the season on the IL. There's some concern concern that Blake Snell not going to be ready. i saw that. um Obviously, the recent signing of Kike Hernandez, he's not going to be ready until maybe July.
00:46:23
Albert Nava
He's got some shoulder issues. But just everything is normal. It's just it's just the regular season. um There's the impending lockout or labor discussions, and it got even more complicated because the actual players union head had to resign over some controversy, which is a very interesting story. I don't know if you cut wood to that. It's so dumb. It's like a Jerry Springer episode.
00:46:50
Albert Nava
um God, his name's escaping me, but can you, uh, can you give some context to a Jerry Springer? Jerry Springer is a talk show from the nineties, early two thousands where every other show was about paternity test and who's the dad. And my husband was sleeping with my sister, blah, blah, blah. blah blah Uh,
00:47:09
Albert Nava
So yeah, so in this case, Tony Clark, while the name just came to me as I was thinking about Tony Clark, he is the head of the players union. He's in charge of negotiating on behalf of the players in a collective bargaining agreement, which is coming up. It expires in December after the season of 2026.
00:47:27
Albert Nava
A strike is looming because there's going to be a lot of disagreement with over the salary cap, salary floor, yada, yada, yada. Well, he had to resign. and People were wondering why, and it turns out it was discovered that he was having an affair with his sister-in-law, who was also an employee.
00:47:47
Albert Nava
Okay. Interesting. Yes. and which is weird it's wild and people are trying to speculate what is it his wife's sister or his brother's wife and which this is on sports this is on sports talk radio what is worse what would you rather was just like oh my god but what this means is now the players don't have who they usually have leading the negotiation so they're considered to be i guess behind in So basically, it's a what what not starting well. Would you say the conspiracy could there be a conspiracy that this was leaked on purpose to hurt players? Yes. No. I think the conspiracy... it is There is a conspiracy, but there is a conspiracy. Because the original investigation was... Apparently, there was some mismanagement of funds raised by the Players' Union. Of course. And they're thinking this is kind of a...
00:48:36
Albert Nava
There's almost too much detail. Like it should have just been, he was relieved, relieved of his duties. But the fact that something as salacious came out like this, that really has nothing to do with what we care about was kind of like a, Hey, look at the smoke over here and don't worry about this over here. So I don't know, but the labor thing is going to go. Of course you have everybody complaining that, Oh, finally the Dodgers are going to meet their, whatever.
00:49:00
Albert Nava
They're going to do something about deferrals and having these ridiculous contracts. and By the way, if I don't know if anybody knows this, but the Dodgers are not the only team in baseball that uses their free contracts. They've just been the ones that have done it the best.
00:49:14
Albert Nava
But I digress. But yeah, baseball's back. Spring training games should be kicking off sometime next week. um And I'm looking forward to possibly having an opportunity to go check one of those out.
00:49:27
Albert Nava
Go Dodgers. Go Dodgers. Go Dodgers. um with very little time we have that. Let me just back, let's let's finish this finish how we started, going back to the Las Vegas Raiders, the 2026-2027 season.

Raiders' Upcoming Season Challenges

00:49:42
Albert Nava
We do have the list of appointment opponents for next year's team. Some away opponents, obviously, oh away and home include the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Los Angeles Chargers.
00:49:55
Albert Nava
But starting with some away opponents, The Arizona Cardinals, which brings an interesting idea to my father and I to go watch this in-season game next year.
00:50:08
Albert Nava
my dad and I were able to catch a preseason game last year. we were able to see Geno Smith. Max Crosby. bro god We were so confident going into that game. Very confident. god They look so good.
00:50:20
Albert Nava
so again, exciting opportunity for us to go see the Raiders in person. You can check out our number one pick. New coach. Brand new offense. Brand new defense. Cleveland Browns. The New England Patriots. The New Orleans Saints. The New York Jets.
00:50:34
Albert Nava
And San Francisco, which again is rumored to possibly be played in Mexico City in December. um Not big in that obviously my father and I not big fans of that um Some home opponents include the Baltimore Ravens the Cincinnati Bengals the Chicago Bears the Detroit Lions
00:50:59
Albert Nava
already earned so Oh my gosh Oh Yeah tell you right
00:51:07
Albert Nava
oh yeah oh Okay, I get it. Okay, let me backtrack here. I'm so sorry. So sorry some some away opponents to come from you I said Arizona the Cleveland Browns New New England Patriots you run the Saints your jet San Francisco and some home opponents are gonna be the Buffalo Bills It's gonna be the Miami Dolphins the Los Angeles Rams.
00:51:29
Albert Nava
I Have I assume this will be primetime the Seattle Seahawks. It'll be clean Kubiak versus his old team And the Tennessee Titans. Dude, that's a tough schedule. That is a ridiculously tough schedule, yes. Just fact that we're playing the NFC West, it appears. Yes. That fucking division is stacked. Yes. We're already playing the AFC West, which has already got three playoff games in it. Yeah.
00:51:50
Albert Nava
And then the... So, these are the playoff teams we're playing next. We're playing the Denver Broncos. We're playing the Los Angeles Chargers. We're playing the Buffalo Bills. We're playing the Los Angeles Rams. And the Seattle Seahawks. And the New York Patriots. and We we're all played both Super Bowl teams. And San Francisco. Yes. God. you west yeah okay that's that's That's an insane amount of playoff teams. that's that's One, two, three, six, seven. Congratulations. You have the worst record in football. Here's a tough schedule. Seven playoff teams. insane. Wow.
00:52:21
Albert Nava
So tough tough schedule that Clint Kubiak will be facing with Fernando Mendoza. um
00:52:29
Albert Nava
Let me give you a rundown. or get get give me a Give me a preliminary record death before the draft. god give me a play yeah Give me a record before the draft. do reagency Give me a pre preliminary record that you think we're we we'll have this year.
00:52:43
Albert Nava
You know, but without knowing anything for sure, we don't even have Fernando on the team. For all I know, I can all go to hell. Max Cross. all All these uncertainties, I'm going to go ahead and go with...
00:52:55
Albert Nava
um God, you're saying before even free agency. Before, yeah. The same roster. Yeah. You know what? What was our record last year? three and fourteen I'm going to go 5-12. Okay, 5-12. I'm giving them two extra games. I like i think coaching matters that much. yeah But i mean you're telling me the same exact roster.
00:53:14
Albert Nava
Right. So, yeah, two more games just based on the coaching. Yeah. Okay. 5-12. 5-12, okay. Okay.
00:53:24
Albert Nava
five a twelve okay um So five and twelve this year were the Cleveland Browns and Washington Commanders who landed them a 6 and a 7 pick in this NFL draft. Maybe we're tanking part two, but not so bad. Tanking so bad that we get a run receiver. Yeah. That would be great.
00:53:44
Albert Nava
um again it's always good to have a ah lot of our position skills to be rookies so hope build around and get about that rookie contract exactly so super excited for this year it's super excited for the drafts who's our for March Madness for baseball season um Assuming dad that you have the number one pick in this MLB fantasy full fantasy baseball draft other than show hail Tony who would you be targeting?
00:54:16
Albert Nava
I would go with
00:54:22
Albert Nava
It's gotta be a You know I I don't even know if I'd go show hey I would go with
00:54:42
Albert Nava
I the i' you don't know. i I'm trying to figure out what's more important. Designated hitter, outfielder, first base, second base, third base catcher. I guess it depends on the scoring. Did you see any score?
00:54:53
Albert Nava
this I'm just going to shoot a name out there. um I'm trying not to be the same person I am in fantasy football with fantasy baseball where you're going to see my roster full of Dodgers. Even Dodger farm players. I'd be like, hey, they're not even the team. I don't care. They're on my team.
00:55:07
Albert Nava
um But if I had to pick, I'm going to try go the non-Dodger route. And I'm going to go ahead and say... Oh my gosh, there was a name. oham um Oh my gosh, dad.
00:55:21
Albert Nava
Juan Soto. Okay, New York Mets. He's a pretty consistent fella. Not Aaron Judge. I was to say Aaron Judge, but I don't think he's overrated. I just...
00:55:34
Albert Nava
know Okay. My first player going to non-Dodger, and then the rest are probably be Dodgers. Kyle Tucker? Kyle Tucker. You know, Kyle Tucker's got to show me some things because he's... i don't know.
00:55:48
Albert Nava
i'm I'm really banking, and I'm hoping to get little draft strategy. I'm going to linger unless somebody really jumps on it because of the name. But Mookie Betts really hasn't been Mookie Betts since...
00:56:02
Albert Nava
He had a strong towards the end of the season, but even the playoffs, he was kind of eh. But I think he's he's he's in line to to bring it all back. So he's a guy that I'm targeting.
00:56:13
Albert Nava
Hope he's there late in late rounds. Okay. Thank you for telling me that. I'll be on the lookout for that. You do that. Well, thank you guys for joining us. Thank you to the listener. Yes. listener yeah listening.
00:56:26
Albert Nava
The one listener. We will be back. Mom. We'll be back next Thursday um talking some NFL updates, talking some fantasy football, fantasy baseball.
00:56:37
Albert Nava
um We might have had our draft by then. Who knows? I got to get this text chain. Oh, yeah.
