Eberron Renewed Podcast Intro

00:01:18
Speaker
Hello, and welcome to Eberron Renewed, an actual play podcast at the Eberron campaign setting. I'm your game master, Eric. I'm Phillip. I'm Trevor. I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. And welcome to another

Recap: The Suspicious Job

00:01:29
Speaker
episode. Gentlemen, what happened last time? We got a job from the shadiest dude ever. Yeah, we were given a job. There is some incriminating evidence in a, I assume some sort of ledger book. It was just called a book a few times.
00:01:50
Speaker
And we found out when we went to see Tolven about it that we've been sent on a suicide mission. Well, a homicide, what is it when you're sent on a suicide mission? Is that a homicide directive for a suicide mission? Yeah, we're being sent into Fallen, which is bad news. Yes. The worst, in fact. The worst news.

Entering Fallen and Initial Combat

00:02:17
Speaker
Okay, yeah, so where we left off is you all had entered Fallen and a raver had just leapt out of the shadows to attack Hob. Now Hob's not actually being attacked, that was just dramatic effect. So we now need to roll Initiative. Okay, so we start off with an NPC slot. So we will go ahead and kick things off with that attack

Combat Mechanics and Fear Checks

00:02:42
Speaker
on Hob, I guess. I do that thing you did. Couldn't work out more perfectly.
00:02:47
Speaker
Um, okay. So he and, um, yeah, he's going to leap out. Um, okay. Actually before this at the start of the encounter, I need everybody to make a daunting fear check. So, uh, yes, it's a discipline check with a four purple difficulty.
00:03:17
Speaker
Well, I peed my pants. Oh, my word. There's no hope on this one. Well, we all died. Sorry. Discipline. Yes, yes. Yes, yes, yes.
00:03:37
Speaker
Wow. Okay. Gosh, there's just man. So Eris has three threat. Reynard has a failure and two threat. Milo has a failure and one threat. Hob has one threat. Yes. Not only did none of us succeed, all of us rolled at least one threat. Did anybody forget about boost that they were supposed to have?
00:04:05
Speaker
Not on discipline. I'm trying to find the fear check. If you haven't noticed, Raynard's not very disciplined. I think the rules are that we have failed and are afraid. And we'll try to duck tail and run. Except for... Yeah, I mean, we're just barely in here. Let's just... I'm trying to work out why we're all so scared. We were just told these guys were down here. Let's just go kill Jason, you know?
00:04:32
Speaker
Like we were just told exactly what these people were going to do and how they were going to do it with their big gnarly fingernails. It's a daunting fear. I mean, it's one thing to be told there are feral humanoids down down there. Be careful. And another thing for a feral human to run out of an alley and try to claw your eyes out. Hobbes sees somebody smaller than him trying to fight him. Apparently he sees more than that. Apparently he does.

Engaging the Ravers

00:05:01
Speaker
Okay, so for the remainder of the encounter, all of your checks will have a setback die, a black die, because you are scared and caught on your heels because none of you succeeded on the check. Additionally, Hob got one threat. So Hob,
00:05:29
Speaker
and Milo each got one. Hob and Milo, you both suffer from adrenaline rush. So you all get to add a boost I to your next check. But when you make your next check, you also suffer three strain. All right. Is that like if I cast the spell, is that in addition to the two?
00:05:57
Speaker
Yeah, in addition to anything else you'd normally be rolling, you're like, your heart rate jumps, you do a thing really quick, but then it has a physical toll. Raynard, I mean, this just fits. Raynard, you're gonna flee in terror. You're beating feet. Okay, bye. So you have to spend your next turn running away.
00:06:27
Speaker
And you can run back. Yes. Eventually. Or use that handy dandy new ranged check that you got. Aerith, you are immobilized and staggered during your next turn.
00:06:51
Speaker
You are frozen in terror. I don't know what staggered means. I don't know the conditions in this game. Yeah. No, you're good. I think it's what Trevor's doing. I was running. That was right on random. You run like Zoidberg. I don't know how to follow that on Verizon.
00:07:18
Speaker
So you can't... Staggered is you cannot perform an action, immobilized is you cannot perform a maneuver. So you can't do anything... I can do nothing on my try-on. D&D stunned. You can do an incidental if you want. Which screaming would be acceptable. Okay. So... Let's go ahead and get their first attack rolling now that that fear check has been resolved.
00:07:46
Speaker
So this is a one yellow, two green check against a hob, two purple difficulty, cause it's a melee attack. Um, would you like to spend a story point to upgrade the difficulty hob? Um, I'm not going to spend one to upgrade their check. No, I don't think so. I don't, I don't think I'm going to upgrade the difficulty.
00:08:16
Speaker
Okay. Oh! To success, a threat, and a triumph. Unreal. Unreal indeed. This is where we die. So the damage that you take is... Oh.
00:08:41
Speaker
I'm like, oh. Yeah. No, that wasn't. You can't stop there. I can do whatever I want. Oh, I don't need this podcast anymore than Hob needs Sean. I just want to make sure you understand that. OK, so it attacks you with its claws. It deals.
00:09:10
Speaker
Uh, oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. Hold on. I need to roll to those two setback had a very different, uh, different. Oh, timbre to it. Um, so you already have defense one and then Milo added two more. Um, so to melee. Yeah. For your defense. So three setback. So that's only one success, three threat and a triumph. So it deals three damage hob, but
00:09:40
Speaker
His claws have breach one, which means he ignores 10 points of soak. What a wasted spell, Randy. I'm sorry. His claws just tear through you. Put this guy on his back.
00:10:01
Speaker
Okay, so the triumph. I think it makes the most sense to just crit, you know? So, hamstrung, lose your free maneuver until the end of the encounter. Oh my gosh, this is so very bad. So he slashes the back of your leg up and just cuts into your hamstring. And so if you want to use a maneuver at all, you have to use two strain. Two strain for a maneuver?
00:10:29
Speaker
Mm hmm. Okay. Okay. Okay. And you all hear a cacophony of of screeches and screams as that slice happens and the smell of blood enters the air. It is now a PC turn. Well, I should obviously go last. Yeah, can I just try to pile drive this guy like try to catch him before I have to move to get him? Sure. So
00:10:58
Speaker
Yeah, and what was your fear effect? Remind me. I get a boost die. I almost hesitate to ask, did you roll a fear check for Sana? Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. I just noticed there was an extra PC slot and then it clued into me. So actually she succeeded because each of the setback die had a failure. So she had one success. So she passed. So Sana is resolute. Turns out she's been here before.
00:11:29
Speaker
This is where she learned to fight. Okay, Hob, so you're gonna pile drive this guy, which means it's a two purple difficulty. You have a setback die for failing the fear check. You have a boost die from the threat on your fear check. Would you like to spend him? Oh, you would take two strain to aim, so I don't know if you want to do that, but... Not this time. Okay, do you wanna use the story point to upgrade your check? I do. I really wanna hurt this dude.
00:12:00
Speaker
Okay, I have your upgrade, your boost die, your setback die, two purple difficulty is set. So you are good to roll. One success, five advantage. So many advantage. Yeah. So how much damage do you deal first off? It's six plus however many successes, right? Yeah. So seven.
00:12:29
Speaker
That's enough to crit, I think. Oh yeah, I'm going to crit. Okay. I'm going to use three to crit and two to pull back strain because I got a feeling I'm going to need to use it. No, I don't have strain. I have wounds. You have three strain because you had to take three to do an action this turn. That's right. So you can get back two of them. I'll get those two back. Okay, compromised.
00:12:57
Speaker
So increase difficulty of all skill checks by one until the crit is healed. Okay, so yeah, I like I assume he's trying to run past and this is like a drive by slashing. I want to grab him by that long dirty hair, pull him back to me. And as I do, I just yank down.
00:13:19
Speaker
His head is in my armpit with his nose in my pit. And I just fall backwards on him and I ring his bell so hard that he just has a real hard time for a little while. And then I probably hurt myself getting up with my turns over so I don't get trained for it. Yes, yes, the adrenaline is worn off and now you're breathing and yeah, the strain sets in. Okay, it is now another PC turn.
00:13:49
Speaker
Who would like to go next or Sonic ago? And this is still the one we see, yes? What? This is the only raver that we see, yes. We just know others are around because we've heard. Yes, correct. Oh. So, Raynard, you have to spend this turn running away. So, if you just want to get that out of the way, you can. Oh, yeah. Or Milo can do something. I'm running. Okay.
00:14:13
Speaker
So Rainard uses his maneuver to run and then downgrades his action to run again. So he is two range bands away as he takes off sprinting. This is interesting. This seems worse than mine, even though I had more threat in a certain sense, because I'm still present. I'm just frozen, but he also lost his turn, except also has to be farther from the action. Yeah, that's fair. That's interesting.
00:14:41
Speaker
He's not there to hit this round. You are. I guess that's true. I'm still in danger. You're a sitting duck. Yeah, that makes sense. Okay, now we're on to an NPC turn. So a group of ravers leap out from behind Eris, speaking of being a sitting duck, and are going to attack her. This is a group of three ravers. And so this is going to be a...
00:15:11
Speaker
Two yellow, one green, check. Eris, do you have any defense or anything? I believe that I have, yes, I have one melee defense. Okay. And then taking a look at the effects to make sure it doesn't. Yeah, I would not be surprised.
00:15:39
Speaker
No, there's no if a character's attacked while this thing is happening. That seems odd, anyway. But I'll take it. Okay, yeah, I'm happy with that. Would you like to spend a story point to upgrade the difficulty of their check? What did you say they were rolling? Two yellow, one green. Sure. Well, what's our pool like right now? Three, two. Okay, I will spend a story point to upgrade in the hopes of a despair.
00:16:10
Speaker
Okay, two success. That upgrade was good. Okay, so they are going to deal seven damage. And no soak because of breach. No, they don't have breach. Just the big one does. The alpha. Yes, yes. So yeah, they don't have breach, so you're good there. Okay, and then...
00:16:40
Speaker
It is now another NPC turn, so Milo. Yes. Yet another group of ravers jumps out of the darkness and are going to attack you. Do you have any defense? Yes, one. Okay. I need to remember to ask that. And would you like to spend a story point to upgrade the difficulty of their check? You all have two story points, I have three.
00:17:11
Speaker
It's little Milo. I don't want to spend one, though. I will be spending them and giving them back in short time, so OK, I'll spend it. OK. Don't you fret? OK, upgrade the difficulty so they're rolling against one purple and one red and rolling three success. Boy, those red dice are just not rolling your way.
00:17:37
Speaker
Okay, so that is going to be eight damage, but your soak does cancel out the damage, Milo. It was eight damage. Eight damage. Okay, I soaked one. My threshold's seven. Okay, so use your cloak. You have that new cloak. Right, but... Okay, so... The alternative is you go down. Yeah, I'm just looking. Gosh, all right.
00:18:05
Speaker
So how much I suffer the strain to negate the damage?

Combat Challenges and Strategies

00:18:10
Speaker
Yes, you get to pick how much strain you suffer. Gosh. What's your strain threshold? It's 12, but it's currently at 10, because I put barrier on Hob. For no good reason, because these guys... This one guy.
00:18:32
Speaker
I guess let's do. Three of them. OK, so you suffer three strain and four wounds and negate one from soak, so three wins, actually. OK. It is now a PC turn, so Milo, Eris or Sana. I'm fine with going.
00:19:02
Speaker
Unless, I mean, Sana's fine. No, I forgot that you had not gone. Yeah. Now, since they're up on me, does that affect my spell casting? Um, yes. Of course it does. So when you are casting a spell with somebody engaged with you, that adds a setback
00:19:32
Speaker
Can I maneuver away? Yes, you could use your maneuver to disengage with them. And do I still get to cast a spell? Yeah, totally. Okay, then I will do that. Okay.
00:19:59
Speaker
Milo takes a hit and moves away, increasing the range, flicks his wand and what looks like black lightning flies towards one of the targets. Okay. It's a difficulty of two. Okay.
00:20:27
Speaker
Damn. I'm going to spend a story point to upgrade the difficulty. I'm going to spend it back. Okay. Dadgummit. All right. Everything is set. One success, five advantage, and a despair. Is there a crit rating on a magical attack?
00:20:55
Speaker
Um, by default, only a triumph. You have to add a crit rating through augmentation. Um, so Milo, how much damage do you do? Eight. And then this has, uh, auto fire. Okay. And the auto fire, I can, I can add an additional target for two advantages. Yes.
00:21:26
Speaker
Now this is a minion group, so you're attacking all three. So you could also attack the three on Aeris and the one on Hob, essentially, is what you could do. And you'll aid damage to all three. Let's do that. So this black electricity looks like lightning just crackles out and then splits into three.
00:21:49
Speaker
okay so that is eight damage to these two and after they're soaked so one raver in each group goes down the one that was on Eris and the one that had like gone after you directly hob are both
00:22:10
Speaker
down and then the one that Milo attacked and also attacked Milo in turn. Takes the full eight damage. So it's it's hurting pretty bad, it's still up, but clearly that black lightning really messed up the one that you're holding on to, Hob. OK, question. Yes. Did did I get a boost from?
00:22:40
Speaker
my being afraid and I'm gonna take three strain for that. Plus two for the spell. Plus two for the spell. How many strain do you have left? I have two strain left. Okay.
00:22:57
Speaker
So next up is another PC slot. Sauna should go. Yeah. So Sauna is going to... Well, hold on. I hate, I hate, I kind of hate to do this, but there is the question of that. There's a despair. Despair. Oh, thank you. Oh, Milo's dead. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I think that is not the
00:23:25
Speaker
What can I do to Eris? With a despair and a lightning attack, I just feel like the possibilities are unpleasant. Sorry, Philip, I didn't think about that. I mean, it's not just me, but thank you for... Yeah. But I just have a feeling Milo in the situation. It's a little panicky. You're probably right. I'm gonna lightning bolt everything!
00:23:59
Speaker
Okay. This one is interesting. Okay. So Milo, the lightning as it charges out of your wand backfires a little bit, causing you to suffer a critical injury as a result of your attack.
00:24:27
Speaker
and that's an 82. I specifically picked this one to avoid the other one, which was you can't cast spells for the rest of the encounter, but instead, winded. The target cannot voluntarily suffer strain to activate any abilities or gain initial maneuvers until the critical injury is healed. Now, actually, that does not say cast spells, because there are abilities that you activate with strain,
00:24:55
Speaker
and you can spend it to, so yeah, I don't think this completely takes you out of spell casting. So now that I'm reading it, you just can't suffer strain to move extra, or if you have any talents or anything that it's like spend X number of strain to do this thing, like your cloak, you can't use your cloak. All right, but wait, I'm just winded? Yes. So I'm just assuming taking a break and a little rest will take care of that?
00:25:22
Speaker
No, you have to actually heal the critical injury with a medicine check. Like the lightning backfired to the point to where you feel like you can't catch your breath. You feel like you're constantly short of breath. So, yeah.
00:25:39
Speaker
Um, now it is Sana's turn. So Sana is going to run up to the one that Milo has a hold of because Milo has him kind of pinned down to the ground and it seems like a good opportunity to, I was like, Milo doesn't have anybody pinned anywhere.
00:25:56
Speaker
Yes. Um, the one that hob has pinned to the ground because it seems like a golden opportunity to kick somebody in the head. So, uh, yeah. Would you all like to spend a story point to upgrade, uh, her check? I'm going to spend one to upgrade the difficulty. I say no. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
00:26:20
Speaker
Okay. Wait, you said you don't agree with that? No, I would definitely agree with that. Okay, so two yellow and one green versus one red and one purple. Two advantage. Unbelievable.
00:26:36
Speaker
Um, so Sana goes to kick this guy in the head, but he like is writhing around in Hobbs arms and she miscalculates and doesn't quite get him, but gets him in enough of an advantageous position to where when Hob goes to attack him, Hob will have a boost die. Okay. So, uh, now it is Eris's turn. Eris stands there. So no.
00:26:59
Speaker
No, Eris hears doors breaking down in her head and goes to pieces. I mean, Eris drops the Fletcher and tries to scramble away behind some sort of cover. I realize that mechanically she doesn't move, but yeah, Eris collapses into a fit. Okay.
00:27:24
Speaker
and the ravers follow her trying to get to her behind whatever debris that she is. Yeah. Hidden behind. But she is just screaming in panic. Okay. The NPC slot, that round is over, so now any effects that Reynard and Aeris were suffering under as a result of the fear check are now broken.
00:27:54
Speaker
Um, so the first NPC slot, uh, just because narratively, I think it makes sense. I'm going to go ahead and have the ravers that are going after Eris, um, go. So there are only two of them left at this point. So they're reaching behind this debris, trying to get at Eris, um,
00:28:16
Speaker
So that is going to be a two difficulty check because of melee and they've lost one of their numbers. So that is only a one yellow to green check now. And wait, no.
00:28:34
Speaker
a one green, one yellow check. Okay, so now we are going to... One melee defense. One melee defense, thank you. And you know what? I have too many. I'm going to spend a story point, upgrade their check, make it too yellow.
00:28:55
Speaker
Sure. Two success, two threat, and a triumph. I like how you said two threat like it was some sort of consolation for us playing. I stowed my toe on my way to destroy you. I have a friend whose older sister ran over her with her bike and really hurt her. And in the hospital, she says, it makes you feel any better. It popped my tire.
00:29:25
Speaker
I would want to know how my toes popped her tire. I mean, that is interesting. Eris, that is seven damage. Still blocked by your soak. With the two threat.
00:29:43
Speaker
Um, we can, uh, if you all want, we could say that they suffer that is strain, but on minion strain gets converted to wounds automatically. So, um, so that takes another, um,
00:29:59
Speaker
Wait, no, it doesn't. Not quite. So they're they're scraping and clawing and they're so rabid to get at you, Eris, that they're like wounding themselves up against the the broken concrete that they're reaching around.
00:30:14
Speaker
Um, and we are going to do a critical hit for the triumph. 45 is the role on the critical hit table, which is, um, bold over the target is knocked prone and suffers one strain.
00:30:30
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Makes narrative sense. Okay. We now have a PC slot. Um, we have hob obviously on the ground with the big guy. We have Reynard with his bow at a distance. Milo has some space between himself and the ravers that were attacking him or Eris.

Post-Combat Recovery and Healing

00:30:53
Speaker
I'll take a shot. I don't need to go. Okay. Yeah, go for it. I'll shoot my shot. Raynard changes his mind about abandon this. He's getting a better vantage point. I ran to go hide behind something. Oh, okay. Now I get it. You ran to go hide behind something. You're welcome. So are you going to spend a maneuver to run back towards the fight, Raynard? Well, I'm close enough to shoot an arrow.
00:31:22
Speaker
Well, it would be too difficulty right now. If you ran back, it would only be one purple. So. It's up to you. Like basically one range band. He would not be in melee. Right, correct. I think I'm going to stay a little further away right now, just in case. OK, would you like to use your maneuver to aim then? Yes. OK, so that gets you a blue, but you do have a black because of your fear check.
00:31:53
Speaker
And would you like to spend a story point to upgrade your check? Yeah, I'll go ahead and spend a story point. But I guess I gotta figure out who I am. Okay, so they'll add a fourth die. Who I'm shooting at. Yeah, so you have the group that's up on Milo. There's two of them still standing. You have the one that Hob has a hold of. Don't even, just stop talking, shoot Milo's. He's dying. Save Milo, yeah, save Milo. Milo obviously looks like he's about to be killed. He's for today. Hob doesn't need your help right now.
00:32:22
Speaker
Like, he's not doing great, but he's... Okay, so I'll aim for one of Milo's. Okay. One success, one advantage. Awesome. So your base damage is seven on your bow. So that is eight damage as you shoot and they have their soak.
00:32:44
Speaker
that absorbs some of that. Um, but you do manage to, uh, just turn around a fire arrow and it buries into the temple of one of the ravers is just about to lunge at Milo and it crumples on the ground. Um, and with your advantage, would you like to heal a point of strain that you suffered? Have you suffered any strain? I just did one, so I have plenty. Um, okay. You can pass a boost die to the next person.
00:33:13
Speaker
But advantage can't be something that happens narratively. It can be. It just can't be anything huge, but it can be something. Okay. I was gonna say something like maybe that body falls in between the other one and Milo, so there's a little more of an obstacle for him. Okay, yeah. That's totally fine. I'll say that it becomes difficult terrain to pass through. Okay.
00:33:41
Speaker
Then yeah. Next PC slot. So we have Sana, Hob, Milo, and Eris, everybody, except for Raynard. So who would like to go? I'm fine with going. Go for it. If nobody just wants to. Go for it, Ed. Okay, so...
00:34:07
Speaker
If I use my last two strain, does that fall unconscious? OK, that's what I was thinking. So if I could do a medicine check to on myself to regain strain. Yes. Can you do it in combat?
00:34:29
Speaker
I think I'm sitting there looking at it says, a character may receive one medicine check per encounter to heal wounds and strain. And it's based on my wound threshold. So the difficulty would be one, because my wound, I'm half or less of my wound threshold. Will that also help with the critical or no?
00:34:54
Speaker
Uh, no, you have to specifically choose to forgo healing anything to try and heal the critical injury specifically. Okay. I think it's more important that I try to get a little strain back right now. Yeah. Um, okay. So yeah, we have that easy difficulty set. Uh, it's going to be medicine check. Would you like to spend a story point to upgrade this? Yes. That is a wise choice.
00:35:23
Speaker
Okay. Um, and you do have a setback die because of the fear check. So I have that plugged in as well. So you are good to go. Okay. So you heal two wounds. That's two success, three advantage. So you heal two wounds and three strain. Nice. That's great. Yay. So two wounds, three strain. We need to get Milo some armor.
00:35:53
Speaker
Or he needs to start casting Barrier on himself. Yeah. I have thought about that, but you guys would probably have to tell Milo to do that because he's really big about trying to protect Hob whenever he can. The gaping hole in his chest doesn't tell him. He's just kind of stubborn that way.
00:36:17
Speaker
Okay. And now, oh, that wanted to spell, so I didn't suffer any strain for that. So yay! Nope. That was a plain old check. Back to your business. And just a reminder, not saying that, not telling anybody what they should be doing, just reminding Raynard, Raynard, you do have access to the heal spell. If anybody gets in a really bad way, you can help. So write it down.
00:36:46
Speaker
Put a post-it note on your monitor. Now we are back to the NPC slots. So the one that Hobb has in a headlock is just going to reach its claws up and try to rake Hobb's eyes. So that's going to be two purple for the difficulty and that is going to be one yellow, two green. I'm going to spend a story point to upgrade. I have three melee defense.
00:37:14
Speaker
You have three melee defense. And go ahead and split that point right back, upgrade the difficulty. Okay, and he's going to use his maneuver to aim. Breach, I wouldn't care. Yeah, no, breach is nasty. Yeah. Okay, here we go. One success, three advantage. And... That was...
00:37:42
Speaker
Those red 12 sided JPEGs are really... Yeah. It's just a vector of a pentagon for us at this point, is all it is. The vector image of a red pentagon. Okay, so he deals... Hexagon, come on, Jeff. Yeah, go and tell me how hard I am. He deals three damage, just ignores all your soak.
00:38:10
Speaker
And he is going to crit. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Cool. Track 10. But also add 10, because you already have a crit. Yep. So. So it's you. OK. Oh, neat. It is what it is. Cool. This game's fun. Yeah. I like it. 56.
00:38:34
Speaker
of all the things to roll, agonizing wounds. So he rakes your eyes. You increase the difficulty of all, um, Braun and agility checks by one until the injury is healed. Um,
00:38:54
Speaker
So yeah, you increase the difficulty of all that. Okay, Hob. So yeah, now you have two critical injuries on you. So now we will be adding plus 20 subtracting 10 to another crit if it happens.
00:39:06
Speaker
The ravers on Milo, the single raver on Milo, is going to attempt to get to Milo, clambering over the body that Reynard threw in its path. And as a result of the difficult terrain and precariously trying to lunge at Milo, we're going to upgrade the difficulty of the check that it's trying to attack Milo with.
00:39:34
Speaker
So that's two purple with an upgrade, so one red, one purple. Milo has one defense. It's only a single one of these guys, so that means it is just two green. And I'm going to spend a story point to upgrade because I have too many. All right, here we go. Oh my gosh. He always acts like it's out of benevolence, but then it always ends up being a sharp stick right in our eyes.
00:40:06
Speaker
A success, three threat, and a triumph have been rolled. Okay. He kills Milo with the triumph. He decides to give him a grand burial. But he suffers three wounds from the strain and dies.
00:40:30
Speaker
So yeah, first off, um, Milo, you only have one soak. Okay. Six damage minus one from your soak. So five total. So five total. Yeah. I don't think that makes a difference, does it?
00:40:49
Speaker
Yeah, that puts me at six. Oh, because you healed. Yeah. So that's six current. Okay, now let's roll this critical hit. And you've already suffered one, so this is plus 10. 56. 56.
00:41:08
Speaker
I feel like we've rolled that recently. We rolled 52. Oh, literally the last one that I rolled. Oh. So agonizing wound. So you get slashed across the chest, Milo, with their claws. And you increase the difficulty of all brawn and agility checks by one until this critical injury is healed.
00:41:29
Speaker
Feels less harsh for Milo. Yeah, yeah, it's less critical as it were. Waka, waka, waka. Okay, I've got to add it to your character sheet, Milo. So yeah, it is now a PC turn. Who's loved Milo?
00:41:58
Speaker
Or no, Milo already went, Hob, Eris, and Sana. Who has our healing potions and could? I thought you. Do you think I took them? They were handed to you. Okay, because I need to hit this guy instead of give this potion. So hit this guy. Yeah, all right. So I think what Hob's gonna do is roll first and then narrate. If that is acceptable to you. He's gonna attack. Okay, you have a setback die from your fear check.
00:42:28
Speaker
Um, would you like to spend a story point upgrade? I want to spend a story point to upgrade and I'm going to suffer two strain to aim. I want to take this guy out of the fight. Yeah. This guy needs to go down. Okay. Um, and I'm going to spend a story point to upgrade. Three success for advantage. Okay. So that's nine damage. Do I need to worry about creating here? No, you do not. Okay. You.
00:42:57
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. So describe, he is out of the fight. So describe how you do that. I think it's just really simple. Like his eyes hurt, his face is in pain. And so he just, like he's got him on the ground and he just like flips around, lets his head get just enough off the ground that he can punch it back down into it and knock him cold. Just knocked him out, clean out. I honestly don't think Hob cares if he did worse than knock him out right now.
00:43:22
Speaker
Real quick, we were supposed to upgrade the difficulty by, or increase the difficulty by one, rolling an extra purple because of that crit, so we rolled that real quick. So, two less advantage. I had a feeling this forward advantage, we're gonna let me get a healing potion to Milo, but I doubt two will. And heal some strain though. Because you picked up a lot, haven't you? I only have three right now. Oh, really? Okay. Yeah. Well, you did just suffer two, so you have five total now. No, because I healed two last time.
00:43:52
Speaker
Oh, right, right, right. Pass some boosts. Yeah, I'm just going to target a boost to... I guess I'll target a boost to Eris, yeah. Okay. Okay. All right, next PC slot, we have Sana or Eris. It doesn't seem to matter which order, so I'll go. This is the end of the round.
00:44:15
Speaker
So Eris is just sort of scrambling back, screaming, and one of them is overtaking her. And just in panic, she twists her wrist in a particular way, and the blade pops out of her gauntlet, and she just shoves it towards one of them. But I will roll before I declare anything. Okay.
00:44:44
Speaker
Two purple, one black because of your fear check. Right. And yes. Okay. I'm good.
00:44:53
Speaker
Go for it. Awesome. Two success. So it's going to deal five damage. Looks like, yeah. Okay. Um, so with the damage that makes it through from their soak, uh, you do take out one of them if you want to describe. Okay. So yeah, she just, uh, it's, it's basically on top of her and she just jams this into the side of its head, um, and, and, and throws it off of her. Um,
00:45:21
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's the total of what she does. Excellent. Okay, the next slot is Sana. So Sana is going to run over seeing this one up on Milo and just wrecking Milo is going to run up an attempt to assist in whatever way she can. So two purple.
00:45:49
Speaker
She is rolling two yellow and a green. Would you all like to spend a story point to upgrade her check? There's just one left on Milo. Yes. I'll spend a story point to upgrade the difficulty. Sure. I'm worried about Milo. Let's spend a story point to rescue him. Okay.
00:46:12
Speaker
So we have an upgrade for and an upgrade against. Sana runs up and attempts to do an awesome looking Superman punch into the side of this thing's head. She does not. Two failure, three advantage. So yeah, she manages to miss. This thing is writhing around. She's missed twice in a row. She's getting really frustrated.
00:46:36
Speaker
And with three advantage, she is going to position in such a way with the Superman punch to where it is like really exposed and kind of staggered for a second. So whoever attacks it next will get to upgrade their check for free. Cool. Okay. So that is the end of the round.
00:47:02
Speaker
So now we have another NPC slot. So the one two groups left, right? Yes. And there's one in each of them. So the one on Eris.
00:47:18
Speaker
is going to the other one. So Eris is stabbed here, but the other one that was coming through the underside lunges at Eris, attempting to attack her. One melee defense. Thank you. And this is going to be too green. I'm going to spend a story point to upgrade. Okay. Would you all like to spend a story point to upgrade the difficulty? No. Okay.
00:47:47
Speaker
then roll. One success. So that is six damage to Eris. Ooh. As it brings its claws down and like tears into Eris' shoulder, like not tearing through her coat, just her coat has kind of fallen to the side and it rips into her. Her coat is, yes. Don't hurt the coat, Eric. Her coat is precious. I will get more flak than anything else on this show if I damage the coat.
00:48:15
Speaker
Um, okay. So that is it for that NPC turn. We have another PC slot. So, um, Reynard has a really easy shot on the one attacking Milo. Um, yeah. Yeah. I'm going to take it. Okay. So it's too purple unless you want to use your maneuver to move up one to make it one purple.
00:48:37
Speaker
There's only two ravers left up at this point, so it seems a lot safer. I'll move up. Okay. And then I get the... Would you like to use... Go ahead. Well, I already get an upgrade for free, right? Correct. Yes. So I think I'm gonna... Would you like to use... Okay. I was gonna ask if you wanted to use two points of string to aim to add a blue, but if not, that's fine. You do have a black because of the fear check. Yeah. I think I'm okay.
00:49:07
Speaker
OK, so this hasn't come up much. And so I don't know that we've discussed this rule. Yeah. But I'm sure all the scenarios have noticed. What's the rule about shooting into melee? Is there a rule in this game about shooting? Oh, fair enough into engaged combat. I don't remember what it is. I forgot that Sana was engaged now. It's the same as Star Wars. It's an automatic upgrade. And if you roll a despair, you hit your ally. OK. So you do have an upgrade, Reynard, but your rolling gets one red. So. All right.
00:49:36
Speaker
There's a chance you shoot, Sana. Well. There's nothing you can do to combat that if it rolls a despair, no matter how many like. OK, well, then here we go. Yeah. Sorry.
00:49:50
Speaker
But I did it. That's the opposite in fact. Four success, two threat and a triumph. Nice. So with the four success, that's 11 damage. So yeah, you... This thing goes like flipping. Like the impact of the arrow just sends it off its feet and it cartwheels through the air and ragdolls. And a healing potion pops out of its belt and lands in Milo's mouth.
00:50:17
Speaker
Uh, two, uh, threat, take two points of strain, Reynard. Okay. Um, because you're still having to kind of fight against your fear of these things with the triumph. Um, the heiress, you see the one that's looming over you kind of starts and like looks through the gap and kind of its eyes flicker and it immediately like screeches and then disappears into the shadows. Okay.
00:50:45
Speaker
So the cacophony of sound that was surrounding you all begins to die down. And yeah, it seems like you all have proven yourselves enough of a threat to where the ravers don't think that you're easy prey. So that's good. Most of us aren't easy prey. You as a collective. There's a part of me that wants to find out what would happen if I started rifling through one of these pockets.
00:51:17
Speaker
So, first and foremost, now that we are out of a combat, you all are able to roll... Discipline? At the ending of the encounter, you can roll a simple Discipline check, so let me remove all of the stuff to recover Strain.
00:51:37
Speaker
So yeah, just make a discipline roll or cool check. Sorry, either one, whichever is better. Oh, cool is actually better. I'm just going to roll an extra green because I feel like... Whoa, Milo. Milo rolled the maximum amount of advantage. Yeah, success. You recover six strain, Milo. Milo's happy about that.
00:52:05
Speaker
Rainard recovers three or four strain and Hobb recovers two strain. Oh, would you mind if I? Oh, I've already got it out. Yeah. I was like, oh yeah, a buddy here. And Hobb, Hobb eyeballs the second one, but decides to hold off for a moment. I'm in about, I'm in about 50%. Um,
00:52:33
Speaker
Okay, and if anybody would like to make medicine checks to try and heal some of these crits that you all have suffered, now would be a fine time. But if not, that's fine too. No, I'll definitely do that. What's the healing potion do for me? You recover five strain the first time that you drink one. Wounds. I don't need any more.
00:52:55
Speaker
Yeah, five wounds. Um, okay. So the critical injuries are based upon their severity. So both of Milo's are a two purple severity.
00:53:07
Speaker
Hobbs is, I'm getting in your all's character sheet, so stuffs are shifting. Hobbs is a two purple. Mine is also two. I have two. Wait, yeah. I should have two. Yeah, sorry. 56, adding it now. Both of them are two purple. Mine's a two, but mine also doesn't have an ongoing effect, so mine is not imperative so much.
00:53:32
Speaker
Okay, so I believe Milo's the only one with a decent medicine check. Now, both of my criticals say until the end of the encounter. Oh, okay. So are they just gone? The critical injuries are not, but their effects are. So if I got credit against, again, it would still be plus 30 minus 10, but I'm not. Okay. I mean, my medicine is a joke. I'm not gonna heal these things by myself anyway, so I'm happy to wait and see what happens.
00:54:02
Speaker
Okay. And then my lows, I think are until the critical injuries, end of encounter and end of encounter. Okay. I could have sworn that one of them was until. Is it possible that the rules in Genesis are different from the rules in Star Wars? Cause there's a lot of this drawn from.
00:54:21
Speaker
Yeah, but I think they updated everything for Genesis. It might be that they updated the rules since my core rule book was printed. Oh, I guess that's plausible. For now, we'll just say until the end of the encounter and we won't worry about it until we need to. That's fair. Okay, so...
00:54:45
Speaker
So we don't need to actively heal any critical injuries. They're not going to continue to affect you unless you get credit on again. Okay. Eris is on the other side of a pile of rubble just in pieces and also covered in her own blood.

Eris's Breakdown and Team Support

00:55:04
Speaker
Eris has one hit point. Hob walks over and hands a bottle to Eris.
00:55:11
Speaker
No, I mean, Eris is like on the ground in pieces like Eris is. Can I do a complete panic? Can I do the spell? Yeah, you can do the heal spell. It costs you two strain. Well, come on, girl, I got zero strain. I'm going to heal you. I have a feeling she's not going to feel better, but yes, please heal her. Eris, did you suffer a crit during that? Yep.
00:55:41
Speaker
Um, so you could add two difficulty to try and, uh, also heal Eris's crit if you want, although that's not, uh, entirely necessary at this juncture. So, um, it seems like Eris is more need of hit points than anything. So probably just stick with the one purple and let's just, let's just do the hit points. Okay. So I have the one purple difficulty set and you can roll. This is a verse, right? I'm rolling verse. Yes. Okay.
00:56:09
Speaker
Okay. Well, what's your presence? Because is it not based on, is it not like attack where it's, or is it just for uncancelled successes? It's just uncancelled successes. Yeah. Cool. Unfortunately. And my advantage is laughter is the best medicine and I tell a joke and she gets another hit point.
00:56:40
Speaker
My Milo walks over to Eris. And wait, I pass you these one of his little one of his little arms around her, just kind of pats her. And can I do a medicine check on her? Sure. So you are beyond your half your win threshold. Yep. So I believe that makes it a two difficulty
00:57:09
Speaker
Check. And he gets my advantage. I'm not mistaken. You're passing a boost. Yes. Okay. And then two difficulty. You have a boost from Reynard. So go for it. All right. So he just like puts a little arm around her and just kind of pass her doesn't say anything, but just kind of, uh, you know, I'm here. I get it. I understand. And boom. Okay.
00:57:39
Speaker
So that is three wounds. Three successes. And Eris is just... I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I should... I just... I don't know. I'm sorry. I...
00:58:07
Speaker
We were all caught off guard there and no one did anything wrong. You had nothing to apologize for. You were hurt badly. Milo was hurt badly. We were warned this place was very dangerous and it is certainly living up to it. I won't lie to you. I was definitely afraid for all of us.
00:58:36
Speaker
She sort of mops under her goggles and tries to get up and starts looking around for wherever she drops the Fletcher in her panic. Son has already picked it up and hands it to you. Milo's like doing all he can to help her get up, you know, just kind of an assist as much as he can.
00:59:03
Speaker
So what are you at now, Philip? I'm sorry. I have taken seven wounds out of my 12 threshold. Would you like a potion? It would probably wise from a meta standpoint here. Then I think we're going to cash out the last two potions and I'm going to go ahead because I'm at six of 14. Yeah. Okay. So we each take five back. Okay.
00:59:28
Speaker
I think, do you think Eris is in a place where she would clink bottles with Hob before they drank it if he handed it to her and was like, it's a buck up point. Let's do it. No, he wouldn't say that, but that would be the kind of idea. Probably not. Okay. Yeah, she's not there. She's not there. She just sort of pulls the mask down and the scarf down and downs it and tries to fix the scarf back in place. Okay.
00:59:57
Speaker
um so thankfully this this temple is easy to see yeah sauna says we shouldn't we shouldn't be far at this point i think down this street and to the left we should have it in sight based on what um tolvin told us so let's go

Approaching the Temple

01:00:25
Speaker
And Sana turns and begins walking, presumably the rest of you join her. Yeah, you go down, turn left, continuing towards the center of the city, and you do see... Not a super large, but temples to Kolkoran are, because it's the god of coins, supposed to be the most annoying of the temples. So...
01:00:51
Speaker
It is it is it is fancy even in disrepair. But you can clearly see that where where there would have been like the the appearance of gold inlay on on the building. It is chipped away to prove to just be golden paint that was painted over.
01:01:15
Speaker
And yeah, you all see a door that has been broken down over time, but a table has actually been propped up blocking site into the door. And so, yeah, there is something impeding your advancing into the temple. If somebody would like to give me a perception check to try and... If somebody would like to get close with a stealth check,
01:01:44
Speaker
And then a perception check that would probably give you the most advantage to to listen in. I just upgraded my stealth. These are not Hobbs talents. OK, so it's going to be one purple, one red, because it's an opposed check against the best perception that could perceive you. Oh, but wait, wait, wait. Didn't I do something with my talent that had to do with stealth?
01:02:11
Speaker
Did I upgrade my stealth? I don't think so. I can't remember. You upgraded your stealth skill. Oh no, it was Charmin. Oh, okay. Skullduggery. Would you like to spend a story point to upgrade your check? Where are we at in story points? We have three, right? Mm-hmm, yes. Yes, sir. Okay. I guess we need to figure out what's going on. Yep.
01:02:38
Speaker
So this is you sneaking up as close as you feel comfortable to the door and trying to listen in to the temple to see what you can hear. I did. I did it. No. We did not do it. One triumph. No success. No advantage. A triumph. Okay, so... Oh, man, this is hard. Like, you fail a stealth check.
01:03:05
Speaker
But something inadvertently goes so... I didn't fail. I did nothing. Yes, you did. You didn't roll success, therefore you failed. I didn't roll a failure. Come on. The way the rules work... There's got to be a logistic about that. It's on the dice. There's not a purgatory state for this, unfortunately. If you don't succeed, that means you failed. Okay, so... Oh, yeah, the Triafist, I didn't fail. But I didn't hear anything.
01:03:35
Speaker
No one hurts me. Okay, so this is just silly fun because I feel like that last encounter got really bleak. So, Raynard, you walk up
01:03:52
Speaker
and you're being real sneaky. Like you're one with the darkness, you're training that you were raised on, kicks in, skulking about in the shadows, spying on people. This is all muscle memory for you at this point. And you get up there and you manage to, as you like, get a viewpoint to where you can see past the table into this temple.
01:04:21
Speaker
you also put your hand up on the table to get a better viewpoint. And the pressure that you apply to the table causes the table to just come clattering down. Now, what then happens
01:04:35
Speaker
is the table crashes down and breaks in half and a chunk of one of the legs goes flying and hits a bit of rubble that's also in the temple from the like part of the roof collapsing in. This rubble was kind of sitting precariously on the edge of an altar and it starts to roll.
01:04:53
Speaker
And the piece of rubble smashes into the support where a rope was tied for one of the lighting implements that was hanging over the top of the temple that then the rope comes loose, it falls and crashes down on a group of three very like
01:05:13
Speaker
you know, schleppy looking people hanging out in this temple and just completely decimate all of them. So you knocked out a minion group through your... Okay, well this didn't sound like a triumph. I was like, this is a lot. You have been noticed, but a good thing happened as a result of it. So all of this happens and they look to... And then I just say into the doorway, I just say, we're here.
