Halloween Spooktacular & Show Recommendations

00:01:23
Speaker
Hey, hey, what's going on? Happy Halloween. Happy Halloween. don't know if this is the first show we ever had on Halloween. It has to be. Yeah, first Halloween recording. Yeah.
00:01:35
Speaker
Welcome, everyone, to a Halloween spectacular. Lots of movies to talk about. Spooktacular. Spooktacular, as everyone likes to call it this time of year. um We'll start off with a couple of shows, couple of shows ended, but um Tulsa King.
00:01:51
Speaker
Probably haven't started it yet, I'm sure. um However, I'd just like to bring it up to remind you how awesome it is um and how the villain this year is awesome.
00:02:03
Speaker
And how you need to catch up on this show. Halfway through the season. By the way, you got me into this show three weeks ago. I know. um Halfway through this season, there is a great villain actor that I cannot wait to talk about.
00:02:19
Speaker
I love the crew that he's developed in this show. They're all like nothings and they become something, especially the black kid that kind of becomes his protege in a way.
00:02:31
Speaker
It's great show though. This is on Paramount Plus every Sunday. airs I think it comes on Sunday morning. Yeah, it's really, really good though.

TV Show Renewals & Casting News

00:02:38
Speaker
um But we did have two finales. um One could be the final finale ever, and that could be Chad Powers.
00:02:46
Speaker
um I'm not sure what the ratings are this of this are. It got renewed. It did get renewed. I wasn't sure. yeah yeah um I saw that the other day. Glenn Powell, head of this, not surprised.
00:02:58
Speaker
But there's not much more that this show can tell besides a few people finding out who he is. Like the main character found the main character you wanted to find out found out.
00:03:09
Speaker
um And that kind of leaves a big gaping hole going into a second season. What will happen? um the coaches need to find out some of the players and the world needs to find out i guess that would be the end of the series but um yeah it's mrs doubtfire wrapped into a football game that's weird there's only five no six episodes this season so it wasn't bad easy get easy to get through less than a half hour each if you want to watch their own hulu um it's uh it's a good football type of So, the other thing that ended this week and it was renewed for a sixth season was Only Murders in the Building.
00:03:42
Speaker
um This season, for me, has had a great beginning, lackluster ending. um And it's had that problem for a couple of seasons where it just wasn't catching the same heat as the first couple of seasons. But...
00:03:56
Speaker
um They are going to London next year. And, yeah, we'll see. I know ah Tina Fey is going be playing a big part of it because, spoiler alert, she was the one that was murdered for next season leading up. So, um yeah, we'll have to wait and see. um i love the show. I love the humor just of Steve Martin and Martin Short. I think that's what gives us the show of the heart that it that gets that gets it going on Hulu. But, yeah.
00:04:22
Speaker
Great show.

Stephen King's 'It': Book vs. Adaptations

00:04:24
Speaker
um But we're all here for one thing this week, and that is a Halloween Spectacular. And we're going to talk about a show debut. But before that, I want to bring up...
00:04:35
Speaker
the roots of this show. And that is Stephen King's book, it. Now I know you've read the book. I've read the book as well. Um, totally different. There's a whole sequence at the end of the book that is completely omitted from both the TV adaptation from 1990 and the Andy machete version the came out in the 2010s.
00:04:57
Speaker
Um, and that's the whole Beverly getting, railed by trained by all of the other kids in the losers club um that did not happen in the movie um that she did kiss him i wonder why ah child um the uh original director who developed the movie before andy took it on wanted to include that sequence and think that was one of the why he left um Kiri Fujio... Oh, yeah. Or he might have been the one doing The Flash. I can't remember. It was whoever Andy took over for it.
00:05:30
Speaker
um Because he also took over for somebody on The Flash, too. I can't remember that was carried there. um but Whoever the original director was that developed the movie wanted to include that. And they they said no.
00:05:41
Speaker
Because you can't have 12-year-olds being raped. No, that would not fly well with America. Or the world. um Maybe some parts of the world. ah Yeah, but it... great TV miniseries came out in 1990.
00:05:55
Speaker
um It's not R-rated, so it's very much made for television. However, the performance of Tim Curry coming out of it is why I love it so much, and I hold his Pennywise in high

'Welcome to Derry' Series Insights

00:06:07
Speaker
regards. Compared to Scars guards Bill scars guards Pennywise which I like but I just love Tim Curry um the rest of the movie is very campy because it is made for TV but it's one of the best Stephen King adaptations for what it is because the ending of this book is notorious for being strange um And they had to read it, readapt it twice, two different times for the movie as well.
00:06:31
Speaker
um For the second part of part two, um I watched these for I watched part one and part two, the Andy Machete version for the first time back to back last weekend. I watched them in the theater.
00:06:41
Speaker
um They're they're pretty good. second one's not the second one's a bit much. And it's three hours. It's about 45 minutes too long. Yeah. yeah um And it still has that problem of the ending where it's hard. Even the the thing about it is they joke about Stephen King book endings or the book of Bill, Bill, um who's the character in the movie that's kind of based off of Stephen King. He's an author. Yeah.
00:07:06
Speaker
They joke about how you can't figure out how to figure out your endings of your books. They joke about that. Even Stephen King comes up in a cameo we talked about last week and jokes about you can't figure out an ending to your book.
00:07:16
Speaker
um So that yeah that's kind of a tongue-in-cheek kind of cameo. He had two cameos we talked about last week in this, It Part 2, and then he had a cameo in um Pet Sematary we talked about last week. but um Overall, we knew that the Andy Machete was coming back to do Welcome to Dairy, and it was going to be a prequel.
00:07:35
Speaker
And we know a little bit more about that, and we're going talk about it in a minute. But Welcome to Dairy debuted last weekend, and we had an episode drop drop today on Halloween. i'm I'm guessing you probably watched it.
00:07:47
Speaker
I have not. um'm much with my I'm watching with the Discord. I watch that stuff at night. I'm not going to watch it during the day Oh, I watched it. I won't talk about much of the spoilers, but holy shit, there's a lot of horror, great horror in this show. First episode, tons of great jump scares, tons of great moments.
00:08:05
Speaker
um And you meet a whole new cast of characters. um Do I have... I don't even think I have that here yet. um We'll get into this first. First things first.
00:08:17
Speaker
um Third biggest premiere of a series ever on HBO Max. It had 5.7 million people watching it in the first three days.
00:08:29
Speaker
ah Only thing to top it was the premiere of House of Dragon. And The Last of Us. I'm not sure which episode that was. But yeah. ah And welcome to Derry. Huge numbers for HBO. So there will be more of this. And there's planned for three seasons.

Production Details & Stephen King Connections

00:08:43
Speaker
um it was every If you know the myth of of of Pennywise. He comes back every 27 years. So when they go back to the 50s. And this is 27 years before.
00:08:54
Speaker
You see them in the 80s. In It Part 1. Played by Finn Wolfhard and all those other kids. um So they're going back now to 1950 and they're going back in season two.
00:09:05
Speaker
The plan is to go back another 27 years to 1935. And then at the end, the very last of playing on three seasons, the last season will be in 1908. um and It'll be the Ironworks explosion. All of this stuff was mentioned in the movies as well.
00:09:20
Speaker
um and Pennywise has been around for 300 and something years. He landed on Earth. He's an alien. That's basically all you need to know. um So yeah. ah Intro credits. Saw them for the first time today. Don't want to get into it, but they're very awesome.
00:09:35
Speaker
um And Between the like the first two episodes, the soundtrack, the 50s soundtrack has been amazing. um And Andy Machete, who was the director of The Flash, um' included a couple of DC cameos.
00:09:50
Speaker
ah The first one we saw was the Flash cameo, which is actually if the first time you see the multiverse in the DC Universe is Flash racing against himself, Flash. um And the second one is Clayface, the very the very first issue of Detective Comics' debut of Clayface.
00:10:07
Speaker
And not sure, internet speculation saying that maybe he's going to be directing, I mean, he obviously he's directing Brave and Bold, but... maybe clayface will be a part of that um of course we know there is a clayface movie maybe that's where it's going to debut is for a uh for an introduction but maybe we'll see that as a villain in in batman so um the other thing i don't want to get into it yet um but they did mention it in the for his name in the first episode so you may already know it but this character um may be familiar to you if you know the shinings
00:10:42
Speaker
Yep. It's the same exact character. We'll get into it more next episode. ah you You actually meet him a little bit more in episode two. But Halloran. Dick Halloran, I think his name is, um who's in The Shining. He's got The Shine.
00:10:56
Speaker
He ends up taking little Danny on and teaching him about The Shine. um He shows up as an Air Force pilot, and may I think a major, um in this episode. and Maybe it's just a pilot, don't know.
00:11:07
Speaker
But they're using his powers for something. They actually do that. They they mention that in the trailers and everything. but um So it's a lot more connection to Stephen and King and Jason, which his books are like that too, but they're actually diving diving keeping deep diving into it a little bit more.
00:11:20
Speaker
um And I like this cool type of marketing. The first poster they released, the first group of loser kids, who, spoiler, in the first episode, half of them are dead.
00:11:32
Speaker
They all died at the end of the episode. They redid the poster for episode two, and we get a brand new group of kids. um Also, the viral marketing has been pretty cool on Instagram. They posted a Derry Herald from when the theater, whole theater thing happened, and everybody got massacred.
00:11:48
Speaker
um They did a Chaos at the Capitol Theater article that went on the it social media posts, so that was pretty cool. But yeah, this

Halloween Classics & Horror Reviews

00:11:56
Speaker
airs every Sunday. We're not going to get episode this Sunday. We got it today, but we'll get a new episode next Sunday.
00:12:01
Speaker
ah It's very, very good, very, ah very jumpy. um Great. I think they should have released it earlier in the month. That way it could have had the finale closer to Halloween. But we did get an episode on Halloween, which is really cool, so.
00:12:14
Speaker
um And we got a couple of movies we're going to talk about, but I decided that I wanted to get into some franchises before the end of the season that I'd never seen anything of. um So I watched the first movies of Insidious,
00:12:28
Speaker
Paranormal Activity. And for the first time, I watched A Nightmare on Elm Street. The very first one. I know you've seen, I think you've seen all of these, right? I'm pretty sure, yeah. um Insidious done by James Wan, who of course did the Conjuring movies.
00:12:43
Speaker
ah Where the contrary Conjuring is more based off of real life, real events. Insidious is a brand new story that he brought in and did a whole movie about, about a ha hunting and and a possession of this kid.
00:12:56
Speaker
um I thought it was really good. I thought the jump scares were were good. I thought the story was good about astral projection, all that. I liked that. Um, paranormal activity is another one of those live,
00:13:07
Speaker
cam found footage movies uh and of course it created a franchise it it created a movie studio which would hold whole bloom house and everything and even conjuring came out of this and and everything um and uh and uh yeah i thought it was okay it was a good movie um nightmare on elm street though um freddy k See, the only movie I've ever seen with Freddy Krueger was Freddy vs. Jason.
00:13:33
Speaker
So it's the first time I've seen him in his own movie. I haven't even watched the remake with Jackie ger Earl Haley, who I love. um But i i really I really liked this movie. and for For what it is, the first movie in the 80s, you have to kind of put yourself into place with a lot of these movies into the time period.
00:13:51
Speaker
Um, but yeah, it's very good. Um, lots of cool horror elements of dreams, uh, coming to life and killing people. I thought it was cool. Um, and a lot of horror tropes you've seen throughout the years, of course, you know, this already but come from that type of movie. Those, that whole series of movies. So yeah, and maybe, maybe every year I'll deep dive into some more, stuff like this, but I wanted to get into the first movies of these franchises in particular.
00:14:14
Speaker
Um, ah Before we dive into a couple other movies, um our Halloween movies for the week are, first off, um where are mine? There they are. First off was Children of the Corn, which I did not realize with a Stephen King. We should have been watched it last week.
00:14:31
Speaker
um I, for some reason, it passed me that it was a Stephen King novel. Yeah. But yeah, it was. Not as good as anything Stephen King I've seen. i think it was probably my least favorite of all of them.
00:14:43
Speaker
Yeah, it's not great. Yeah, not that good. um Yeah, i i know I know it has a huge cult following, though. um But I did enjoy The Birds. This is a Hitchcock movie I wanted to watch this week with... ah This came out in 1963.
00:15:00
Speaker
um For the time, if you were, I mean, at the time, there wasn't really anything like this. um It was very, very cool. Again, you had to put your plate you have to put yourself in a place of nineteen sixty s to kind of figure out what they were feeling at the time when they see a movie like this, and this is definitely...
00:15:15
Speaker
ah Definitely a very very much a thriller, very much a suspenseful story that kind of did the whole scream, queen, get up, and course this and Psycho started that. so um But the movie of the week, the one that we've been waiting for all all all year...
00:15:34
Speaker
oh all this Halloween, was The Exorcist. o Watched it last weekend. First viewing. ah Neither one of us had seen it before.
00:15:45
Speaker
Now I know why everybody loves this movie. This movie was way before its time. This was done in 1973, right? 1973. And there was nothing like this done before. The wording...
00:15:57
Speaker
and there was nothing like this done before um the visual the wording the The dialogue in this movie, the visuals, the terror the way they terrorize the audience when they watch it, there is nothing like it. And that's why it's up on the top of not only the best horror movies, but it's up on the top of a lot of best movies just because of the way it was shot. And it was shot beautifully.
00:16:22
Speaker
um It's a great movie, great cast. Max von Sydow. I've seen a lot more of the more deeper I get into older movies. um Of course, we know him from Star Wars later on. He was in Force Awakens, but um he's great in this.
00:16:37
Speaker
The whole entire cast is great in this. And what's her name? Linda Blair, who plays Regan. Yes. Amazing, amazing fucking run as a possessed little girl. um And seeing her in the beginning of the movie, just dancing just dancing around, being a little girl, and all of a sudden this demon taking over her.
00:16:54
Speaker
And goes nuts. And and the pea soups, puking up the pea soup. And you know all the background stories of how this movie was made. um Just a great movie. five four i Four and a half out of five for me. And that and this is a 1973 movie.
00:17:07
Speaker
seventy three movie And not a lot of times I see a movie that's so old that that hits me like that. um Not necessarily scary. i mean i I mentioned it last week. I was kind of worried to see this. I knew i thought I was going fuck with my head. But I've seen a lot worse stuff this week. And get into it in a minute.
00:17:24
Speaker
Um, but yeah, this was a good movie. Surprised me. Um, I knew it was, I knew it was gonna be a classic and and just I love the way it was shot, so. Um, but two brand new movies I want to talk about.
00:17:36
Speaker
Uh, The Conjuring Last Rites. Supposedly the last movie, especially with these two actors, um, Patrick Wilson and being Viera, yeah whatever her name is.
00:17:47
Speaker
um But is the story of their final case they had in the 80s, mid-80s, where a family gets possessed. The story does not delve deeper and than that in all of these movies. ah Mostly a family always gets possessed and they come in and save the day and that's exactly what happened this time.
00:18:04
Speaker
They brought their daughter into it, and who all all of a sudden it has the shine. Oh, sorry, the conjuring powers. um And, yeah, that's basically what the movie is all about. I thought it was good, fournet four out of five.
00:18:15
Speaker
um And ah we are going to get a prequel. It was announced today there's going to be a prequel series, brand-new actors playing the characters of Ed and Lorraine.
00:18:28
Speaker
um But a movie, it came out, I saw it on somewhere, and I decided to pick it up. Mm-hmm. It's called Good Boy. i've been talking about it for a little while on here when I saw the trailer of this dog.
00:18:40
Speaker
the The way they play it, the dog is haunted, but that's not it's not really a horror movie. It's just the way it's shot. It's the way it's shot. us the way It's the way it depicts this dog seeing shadows.
00:18:54
Speaker
It's just like if you have a dog, you know this. Dogs bark at random shit all the time. You're wondering what they're barking at. Um, there is a ghost kind of element to it. Um, the dog's name is Indy and the guy who did the movie, I don't think he's the main actor. Maybe he is. I didn't look into it. I wanted to, um, but, um, they got a lot of emotion out of this dog, just the way they were shooting him and,
00:19:19
Speaker
when I was watching it, I was like, wow, this dog is a really good actor for, for being a dog compared to other actors I've seen this year. Um, and I thought it was done shot very, very well for that reason.
00:19:30
Speaker
Um, at the end, there's a little ghostly element to it. His owner is very, very sick. He's following around the whole time. You see a lot of interactions with him and his owner, um, and, and, and kind of being, being a bad boy, being a good boy at the

Upcoming Shows & Film Industry Updates

00:19:44
Speaker
end.
00:19:44
Speaker
ah hence the title of the movie but um overall even the ending I liked when something happens to the owner I liked the whole ending of how that plays out and he gets locked in the basement don't want to get in too many spoilers I would like somebody to watch this movie though it can't get me too spoiled but ah Four and a half out of five. I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen this year.
00:20:07
Speaker
one of the best movies I've seen horror related this this this Halloween. and It's not even a horror movie. um It's just a dog or getting his emotion get emotions out of a dog, which I thought was really cool.
00:20:18
Speaker
um But yeah, ah yeah you do you have it you had a chance to watch that, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's good. Yeah, it's good. So yeah, that's Halloween this year. um And next year, I have no idea where we're going to leave off with, I guess, The Omen.
00:20:33
Speaker
That's the only movie I haven't seen ah with Damien. I guess if we watch The Exorcist, we've got a deep dive into a devil worshipping. So let's go into The Omen next year. Yeah. The other thing, I almost watched Frankenstein, because I know next week Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein comes out.
00:20:50
Speaker
Probably going to watch that this weekend to get prepared for next week when that comes out on Netflix, ah because I'm very, very excited to see Frankenstein. But until then, let's get into the news.
00:21:09
Speaker
And it's not a new time, let's try it around now.
00:21:13
Speaker
got a couple Halloween-related trailers. We've got the first trailer for Stranger Things, the final season. for First full trailer, get a little bit a glimpse of the story. ah Comes out Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's as the finale. Got some new posters as well. We've got a brand new look of Vecna, already all these tendrils growing out of them, all these cool-looking horror elements.
00:21:38
Speaker
um Cannot wait. Very excited for that because it's at the end of November. and we'll talk about that next month. But we did get the first poster and the first trailer for Scream 7 yesterday.
00:21:51
Speaker
um And it looks pretty good as far as Scream is concerned, but... I've been burned so many times by the Scream franchise, I don't know what what to think. But they did bring back Sidney.
00:22:05
Speaker
What's-her-name's coming back for it. I know that. a lot of the characters that have cameos. I remember hearing the casting for this. um They brought in um brought in a lot What's-his-name, Skeet Aldridge, and yeah a whole bunch of other people from the cat from the past are coming back as cameos, I guess, somehow.
00:22:22
Speaker
don't know what's no Don't know what's going on but... Trail looked really good. Sydney being chased this time. Her daughter's being chased around by Ghostface. Looked good. Weekend box office last week. Chainsaw Man.
00:22:35
Speaker
The movie. Resi Arc. Number one. $17.2 million. what anime is doing huge in this way beyond our pay grade we don't know what the hell is going on um yeah i just uh talk with people in my discord because they love anime and that's the one thing i can't get into with them no and two of them saw it and they said it's like their favorite movie of the year Crazy.
00:22:59
Speaker
Which is insane because I really trust, like, I've watched a lot of movies with these guys and we always talk about it. And that's insane. This is their favorite movie of the year. Or at least, like, top three or five. It's crazy that it's crazy the kids are going... and It's crazy that kids are actually going to the theater to see movies. I mean, it's good, I guess. movies Movie theaters getting money. But I'm afraid that that's going to be, like, how...
00:23:23
Speaker
how how things shift in studios is when the big blockbuster movies become something that's way, way out of our realm. Um, I'm afraid that we'll be, so we'll be seeing a lot more anime rather than putting the budget in anime rather than the stuff that we like.
00:23:38
Speaker
Um, don't We'll see. I mean, we still have Marvel movies and stuff like that still going on. So, um and dc um number two black phone two and another movie i never heard of regretting you number three 12.8 million um another thing i want to talk about for the first time in 40 years since 1990 the billboard charts do does not have a rap or hip-hop song in the top 40 of the billboard 200 the first time since 1990 you have eminem you have jay-z
00:24:09
Speaker
You have Tupac, you have Biggie, all those pioneers of hip-hop. um And there's no hip-hop in the top 40 anymore, so nobody's listening to it as far as mainstream media is concerned.
00:24:21
Speaker
um And I blame that on the new generation coming out with shitty hip-hop raps. um Netflix is came out today as exploring the possibility of buying Warner Brothers. little update on that.
00:24:33
Speaker
um They've hired an investment bank um to be advised of how to put an order in to the bids for a Skydance Paramount takeover. or yeah however they however you want to say um netflix is one of those that we kind of said well they don't really need it um but they're looking into it so i think everybody kind of put their ears up when when warner brothers announced that last week that they're actively accepting bids so uh we'll keep an eye on that story um also speaking of paramount
00:25:07
Speaker
um They lost Taylor Sheridan, who Tulsa King. Literally built the Paramount app. Yeah, built Paramount Plus with with Yellowstone.
00:25:19
Speaker
um But he's got a brand five-year deal starting in 2029 with NBCUniversal for their Peacock app. um And it's going to be an overall TV deal. And movie deal.
