The Israelites are almost in the promised land. God and Moses are filling the Israelites up with wisdom before they enter this new season. These are things we can all take in!

- Love God with all your being and constantly turn to Him ( Deuteronomy 6:5-8)

- Remember all God has done and tell others about it! ( Deuteronomy  6:20-25)

- Don't be afraid and remember God's strength (Deuteronomy 7:18)

- Don't forget God ( Deuteronomy 8:14)

Above all, we need to remember God and have such gratitude for all He has done! Join me for some hope!

Hello, it's Abby from Filling You Up With Hope. I hope you're having a great morning or day, whatever time it is. And I'm just so thankful be for another episode of Filling You Up With Hope. We go through God's word and we talk about mental health and parenting and all sorts of things. And more than anything, we talk about the hope there is in Jesus.

Entering New Life Seasons: Lessons from the Israelites

00:00:32
fillingyouupwithhope
So we are in Deuteronomy. We're in Deuteronomy, we're starting in six today and the Israelites are almost entering the promised land. They've been wandering, they've gone through so much. God has set them free from slavery and they've just been through so much and now they're entering the unknown, except for the spies, right? They've been in the promised land.
00:01:01
fillingyouupwithhope
but they're entering this new season of their life, right? And we enter new seasons in our life all the time, right? Some of us, our kids might be going away, yeah um leaving the nest. um Others, maybe we're having children for the first time, or maybe we have a new job, um or maybe we're retiring, all sorts of different seasons that we go through.
00:01:32
fillingyouupwithhope
and new things that we face in life. And these are verses to just take in when we're facing these things that just remind us not only of who we are, but they also remind us of who God is.

Loving God and Instilling Faith in Children

00:01:52
fillingyouupwithhope
So we're going to start in um Deuteronomy 6, 5, and the beginning of this is something Jesus says.
00:02:01
fillingyouupwithhope
Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of your being and all your strength when he's asked the greatest commandment, right? Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of your being, all of your strength. These words that I'm commanding you today must be on your minds. Recite them to your children. Talk about them when you're sitting around your house and when you're out and about, when you're lying down and when you're getting up.
00:02:30
fillingyouupwithhope
So when we're facing these new things, right, we need to remember, and I feel like this is one of the themes this week, we need to remember what our identity is. And um and that's that we're a child of God. And and like for me, and I normally like the morning is when I have my Bible time and and it's I love it. I could spend hours.
00:03:07
fillingyouupwithhope
and um But this is a good reminder. It's not just something that, oh, this is my Bible time. This is when I'm gonna read God's word. No, we need to be reciting, fear not for I'm with you, be still, like whatever verses are on our heart, we need to be reciting them to ourselves throughout the day, every day. We need to be turning to God throughout the day, every day. And we need to not just be doing it in our mind, but we need to be um sharing it with our children because we're passing on to them the best coping skill of all when we do that.

Faith as the Ultimate Coping Skill

00:03:54
fillingyouupwithhope
um i you know As a therapist, you help people develop
00:03:58
fillingyouupwithhope
coping skills, right? But the best coping skill of all is turning to God, right? And it's easy to forget that we have direct access to Him. We can talk to Him when we're lying down and when we're getting up, like it says at any time. And then when we're doing that, we're instilling it in our children. When they see, oh, this is how mom is coping, um you're you're showing them with your actions. So when we're facing these unknown, taking in the great commandment to love your God fully with all of your being, thank you, Jesus, right? And so now we go down and we go more about our children,
00:04:55
fillingyouupwithhope
Right? And it talks about, so this is in verse 20. In the future, your children are going to ask you, what is the meaning of the laws? Because remember, we have been going through so many laws in these and these um chapters.
00:05:12
fillingyouupwithhope
What is the meaning of them? Your kids are going to ask you. Tell them, we were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. Before our own eyes, the Lord performed great and awesome deeds of power against Egypt, Pharaoh and his dynasty, but the Lord brought us out from there so he could bring us in, giving us a land that he swore to our ancestors. And then we go to the end. What's more, we will be considered righteous if we are careful to do
00:05:50
fillingyouupwithhope
all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as He commanded us. So, you know, oh, so first of all, we need to tell our children, remind them of the amazing things and not just our children ourselves, because I think sometimes we get lost in all the things we have to do and we forget um all of the amazing things that God has done, right?
00:06:20
fillingyouupwithhope
And we need to remind them and remind ourselves of all the amazing things God has done. And that's a beautiful thing about the Jewish holidays. I was raised Jewish. People know that who listened. And um you go through, you go through that on Passover that God led us out of slavery and rescued us.
00:06:48
fillingyouupwithhope
You go through all of that. And, you know, in the Christian faith, we do that, too, and on Christmas, going through the birth of Jesus and on Easter, um going through Jesus's death. But it's in it's important to remember the mighty God's mighty strength and the things that he has done. And to explain to our kids like why we do obey God and His commandments, right? We need to be passing these things down to our children. And so when we're facing the unknown, remind your brain of the amazing things God has done, and not just in His word, but also in your individual life.
00:07:48
fillingyouupwithhope
There's in Hebrews, there's by faith. And it goes through like the amazing things to Abraham did, right? And different people did. And there's a study that I did where it talks about by faith and recounting the things that you've done in your life by faith. And we've all done those things and we'll continue to do them.
00:08:16
fillingyouupwithhope
And it's not because of us. And we're going to talk more about this in a minute. It's not because of us. It's because of God. It's because of his, his strength that gives us that faith.

God's Love Amidst Cultural Challenges

00:08:28
fillingyouupwithhope
Um, so, oh, but then going down, they're entering this land and this beautiful, beautiful holy land, right? That God has.
00:08:46
fillingyouupwithhope
promise them, and they it's not just going to be them alone. They're going to be surrounded by people who worship other gods. And how how are they supposed to respond to that? So there's different verses. We're going to start in Deuteronomy 7, verse 7. It was not because you were greater than all the people that that the Lord loved you and chose you individually, like reminding yourself of this. In fact, you were the smallest of peoples. No, it is because the Lord loved you and because he kept the solemn pledge he swore to your ancestors. So we need to remind ou ourselves of his love for us, his faithfulness. And then going down to verse step nine, know now that
00:09:40
fillingyouupwithhope
you then that the Lord your God is the only true God. He is a faithful God. So they're going to be surrounded by other gods, but they need to know that our God is the only true God and that He is faithful. Like we're facing these new seasons in our life. God is faithful. He is faithful. He is the only God. And then going to 18. Don't be afraid of them. Remember instead what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and all of Egypt, the great trials that you saw with your own eyes, the signs and wonders, and the strong hand and outstretched arm the Lord your God used to rescue you.
00:10:31
fillingyouupwithhope
So maybe every day we need to be reminding ourselves, maybe that's the beauty of reading in the Old Testament because we're reminded of it, of these things, but remembering all he did for the Israelites, remembering all he did for us, and taking in like it says over and over again in the Bible, do not be afraid. And just remember how good he is.
00:11:01
fillingyouupwithhope
And just taking that in deeply as we face these different things in life. And I love this. and Now we have a description of the Promised Land. This is Deuteronomy 8, verse 7. God is bringing you to a wonderful land, a land of extremes of water, springs, and wells that gush up in valleys and on the hills.
00:11:34
fillingyouupwithhope
A land of wheat and barley, vines, fig trees and pomegranates. A land of olive oil and honey. A land where you would eat food without any shortage. You won't lack a thing there.

Joy in the Promised Land: A Metaphor for Eternal Life

00:11:48
fillingyouupwithhope
This is, if you can just pick yourself in the Israelites position, we know they have been hungry and they have been thirsty. They've been wandering in the desert and this is the land that they're going to enter.
00:12:03
fillingyouupwithhope
with water, with fruit, um they won't lack a thing. I can only imagine the joy. And the joy, we need to have that joy because no matter what we're facing, we have eternity with Jesus. Like that's our beautiful promised land. So I think that taking that in deeply, no matter what we are facing, like He fulfills our needs.
00:12:33
fillingyouupwithhope
just like this amazing promise land, right? um And then, verse, Deuteronomy 8, 12, starting in, when you eat, get full, build nice houses and settle down. When your herds and flocks are growing large, your silver and gold are multiplying, and everything you have is thriving, don't become arrogant for getting the Lord your God. So, just like what we started with, reciting his word,
00:13:01
fillingyouupwithhope
when we're laying down, when we're sitting up all throughout the day to our children, that isn't just in times of need. You know, in times of need, we're desperate. I remember feeling so desperate when Lex, my son, was sick. And that that's what that's the word that comes to mind. I was so desperate for a miracle. And but and somehow during that time, I found God.
00:13:30
fillingyouupwithhope
But it's not just in those times of need that we need to be turning to Him.

Remembering God in All Times

00:13:37
fillingyouupwithhope
It is in good times. It is any time. And for guidance before we do anything, we need to be, we have the gift of being able to turn to Him. And it's so easy to be arrogant and forget God, right? Or like I said, only only turn to Him when you're reading His Word. But in reality, all throughout the day, every day, what a gift we have that we not only can turn to Him, but need to, to live this prosperous life that we're talking about. So this is the last verse going down. So this is still in Deuteronomy 8, but this is verse 17.
00:14:27
fillingyouupwithhope
Don't think to yourself, my strengths and abilities have produced this prosperity for me. And I'm going to finish the end of that, but that's so our culture, right? That my strengths and abilities have produced this, um like kind of arrogance. That is just what we're surrounded by.
00:14:56
fillingyouupwithhope
and God knows, like He knows the Israelites are entering this land on around different cultures. But our culture is to only brag in God and what He has done for us because He's done everything. He's why we're standing or sitting here and He's and he's just done everything.
00:15:26
fillingyouupwithhope
So we can't, in these good times, forget that and think that it was us who did it. And it's so counter um cultural.
00:15:42
fillingyouupwithhope
um Because there's like a proudness that a lot of culture has. But our pride is in Jesus.
00:15:55
fillingyouupwithhope
that He loves us and He gave us this new life that is eternal. And um I just pray that you have that and that you, um as you're entering these different seasons in your life, that you know that what you can brag in is God. And finishing it up, remember the Lord your God.

Faith and Remembrance in New Beginnings

00:16:20
fillingyouupwithhope
He's the one who gives you the strength to be prosperous.
00:16:25
fillingyouupwithhope
in order to establish the covenant He made with your ancestors. And that's how things stand right now.
00:16:35
fillingyouupwithhope
So he is is He is the reason, He's the one who gives you strength to be prosperous. He gives you strength to make it through. And as as I was reading these verses this week, I think My mind is kind of on the armor of God. Cause on Instagram, I'm going through, filling you up with hope. You can follow along. I'm going through a little bit of the armor of God every day in October. And the heart of it, I feel like is deep faith. Like that is our armor. That's our protection. And God is telling them he is there
00:17:20
fillingyouupwithhope
He is their armor. He is their protection as they're entering this new land, right? This is the strength, the armor that you need to have. You need to be turning to me mer moon morning, noon, and night. You need to not be afraid. You need to know my strengths. You need to remember the things that I've done.

Facing Unknowns with God’s Assurance

00:17:46
fillingyouupwithhope
Like take this in and take in the greatest commandment to love your God with all of your mind, all of your heart, all of your being. And these are all things that I pray that we take in deeply as we face so many unknowns in life. Because there are lots of unknowns, but since we have God and we have an eternity with Him, like that is known. And that is the
00:18:20
fillingyouupwithhope
most amazing thing. So I just, um, I'm so thankful that we got to go through this today. I hope it gave you hope if you're facing, um, new things in life, or even if you're not, just a reminder that, you know, all throughout the day, every day we can turn to him and have our deep, deep, deep identity in him.

Conclusion: Gratitude and Hope

00:18:51
fillingyouupwithhope
So I'm thankful for you and I will talk to you next week. Bye.
