fillingyouupwithhope: Hi, it's Abby from Filling You Up With Hope. I'm so glad that you're here. I'm Abby, I'm ah a wife, a mom, a therapist, but more than anything, I love Jesus. And we talk about Jesus, we talk about the hope that there isn't him, we talk about mental health things and parenting things, and we we're going through the Bible, we're in the book of Numbers, and we're talking about something that we all face in life today, which is making decisions, like what do we do? And so it's just an important thing. And last week we talked about the blessing, um the priestly blessing, which is a number six, and that was but ah such a special thing to go through, such a just beautiful verses. And I pray that you had
fillingyouupwithhope: Um, such a blessed week this past week. And so we're in numbers nine with, that's where we're going to focus on. And we're going to go to some, um, other places in the Bible too. But we're in numbers nine and God wants the Israelites to celebrate Passover. So he's instructing Moses to do that, but there's.
fillingyouupwithhope: So he tells the Israelites that they're gonna have Passover and some people come to Moses. ah This is in verse six. They approached Moses and Aaron that day. These persons said to him, although we are unclean from contact with the human corpse, why must be we be prohibited from presenting the Lord's offering? So they wanted to participate and in Passover and they might have been participating, been helping with like a burial um or something like that, but it was, ah they were considered unclean. So, and instead of handling it themselves, they were brave enough to go to Moses and and the fact that they wanted
fillingyouupwithhope: to celebrate Passover as if they wanted to. Passover is a remembrance of all God had done for the Israelite people, and they wanted to be a part of that.
fillingyouupwithhope: But where I got the idea to do God, what do I do? It's from this next part. This is verse eight. Moses said to them, wait, while I listen listen for what the Lord will command concerning you. So we can learn so much from that one from that one verse. We can learn so much because we face so many things that we're uncertain about and we don't know what to do. right moses These men were bold enough to come to Moses and to ask um about participating in the Passover.
fillingyouupwithhope: And Moses, what Moses did, we can all learn from. Moses asks God. It's so simple, but we don't do it. We don't do it very often. and We go in our own head, we go in our own mind, and we rely on our own understanding. Instead of knowing that we need God, right? We need, even though we don't have Um, the mosaic law, right? We don't have all of these. Is this clean? Is that unclean? We still face decisions. God, what do I do in this, with this relationship? Um, what do I do with this situation at my job? Um, all of these things that we face, uh, and that we're looking for answers for.
fillingyouupwithhope: that what we need to be doing about them is turning to God. So we can ask ourselves like what things, because and often when we have anxiety, we have lots of thoughts going through our head, lots of what if this happens, what if that happens, um all those things. And those are all things that we need to be giving to God and turning to God about.
fillingyouupwithhope: add, and if a decision is giving us anxiety, like, you know, meditating on this verse, wait for I've listened and for what God will command, like God will tell you, he will show you, it, it might take time because it's his timing like we always talk about it's his timing not ours but if we take the time to ask him and to invite him into our heart into our lives because that's what we're doing when we turn to God then we're going to be guided by him and that's what happens the Lord spoke to Moses tell the Israelites when any
fillingyouupwithhope: when any of you or your descendants are unclean from contact with the corpse or in a long trip, they may still keep the Passover. So God god responded. God responded. And this is just so what what we need to be doing. Like when we when we face any questions in life asking asking God. um Proverbs 3 .5, right? Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and don't rely on your own intelligence. Proverbs 3 .5, taking that in to rely on his and and God's understanding, not our own. We can't
fillingyouupwithhope: do these things, we get overwhelmed and we feel like um we don't know what to do. And all sorts of different areas like parenting can be so hard, right? And marriage, so many things, but we have the great counselor, we have Jesus. And so we need we need to be asking him We need to be asking him these things and I, and we need to be trusting that we don't know it all. Um, I love be still and know that I am God because we don't, we don't know it all. And that takes ah humility to, to say, and to know that we, that we don't know everything.
fillingyouupwithhope: And, and I see that in, for some reason I was looking through, I'm like, who, when I was preparing for this, I and was thinking God, like who in the Bible like looked for you when they were making decisions and lots of people, but who God guided me to is Solomon, David's son.
fillingyouupwithhope: And in one, in one Kings, um God comes, appears to Solomon, right? This is happening in one Kings three. And God says, ask, like whatever, ask whatever you wish, and I will give it to you. And, you know, thinking about that, like, what would we answer?
fillingyouupwithhope: if if God said that to us. and right like what And it's a way to see where someone's heart is at.
fillingyouupwithhope: And Solomon's answer, yeah but I'm young and inexperienced. I know next to nothing.
fillingyouupwithhope: that's
fillingyouupwithhope: how How many of us are that humble that we can say that I don't know enough? We feel often like we need to prove ourselves and we don't always have humility, but Solomon at this point in his life, um he knows that he is inexperienced and he knows that He can't do it himself. And that's something um that Moses knows too, right? Moses knew that he had to turn to God to get the answer, that he couldn't do it himself. So, um but this is what Solomon asked for. Please give your servant a discerning mind in order to govern your people and to distinguish good from evil.
fillingyouupwithhope: because no one is able to govern this important people of yours without your help. Oh, you know, I, I try like praying for our leaders, right? So many of us do that. And Solomon knows like he's a leader and he knows that he needs God and our leaders need God, right? They need our prayers and, and,
fillingyouupwithhope: They can't, they can't do it. We can't do it. We can't do life um without without him. And so, but he knows that he needs God's wisdom, a discerning mind to govern the people, right? And so we learn, and's it's just like Moses, right?
fillingyouupwithhope: knew that he needed to consult God. So do we go through life and when we're facing different things, do we know that we need God or are we trying to do it ourselves? I feel like
fillingyouupwithhope: It's so something to be aware of as we go through the day. And, you know, some people think that God doesn't care about this that I'm facing. No, he loves you. He sees you. He's there with you. And he wants to know us. He wants to deeply know us. And a reminder. So after the Passover, it goes into cloud over the dwelling.
fillingyouupwithhope: And this is beautiful to take in that he's always there. and the So this is um numbers, I'm back in numbers now. Numbers nine, verse 15. On the and the day the dwelling was erected, the cloud covered the dwelling. The the covenant tent. At night until morning, the cloud appeared with lightning over the dwelling. It was always there. The cloud covered it by day.
fillingyouupwithhope: appearing with lightning at night. And the kids and the Israelites would camp wherever the clouds settled. And we know that god that that's God. That that's God who is with them. And He's with us, but we need to take that step. And we need to to ask Him and to to follow Him.
fillingyouupwithhope: yeah and to turn to Him, just like Moses and Solomon, they show us with their actions.
fillingyouupwithhope: And Jesus, like He tells us, this is Luke 11, verse 13, if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?
fillingyouupwithhope: We need to ask. We have we have these gifts. We have the God right here with us. We have the Holy Spirit in us when we've accepted Jesus. But are are we asking, or are we relying on like our flesh and our own understanding?
fillingyouupwithhope: and And so many times, so many times we do, and it's just a reminder this week, um and always, right? But none of us are perfect, but trying trying to, any of those um questions, the things that we' we're facing, like, God, what do you want me to do? And the listening, name and listening to what he's guiding us to do. And we'll know, so many people say it's
fillingyouupwithhope: It's too hard to to quiet their minds, right? But we can't do it ourselves. But with God, that's another thing we can ask for. God, please quiet my mind so I can listen to you and hear you. And and we can do it. and Like what we've talked about, it's starting in small, small times, just listening, just being alone with God and listening. And, but with Him, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. um With Him, we can do it and and then we can be doing His will.
fillingyouupwithhope: Um, and following that, like Moses, like Moses is doing instead of following our flesh, which we so, which we so often do when we're surrounded by it, but we can have the discerning mind like Solomon, um, like Solomon wanted. You can have that and it's all, it's all from God. So.
fillingyouupwithhope: I just, I pray that your week is amazing and I'm really excited. We're going to be in numbers 11 next week. So, um, and you can, it's, it's more, more complaining, right? The Israelites are just facing things, but what a gift that we that we have got that we have got to turn to, and that he guides us. He's always there with us and loves us. And I just, I pray that you feel that love and that your week is just filled with hope. So um you can find me on on Instagram, filling you up with hope. And I'm just
fillingyouupwithhope: thankful for you and I can't wait next Monday I'll be back again so I will I will talk to you soon and have a great week
