Introductions and Initial Banter

00:00:14
Speaker
Welcome to Add to Party, a friendship simulator masquerading as a new show. I'm your host, James Hartwell, and I'm joined by Charles Yamat, and I'm joined by Andy K. And I want to open this tonight.
00:00:29
Speaker
asking can we all just sing around as simple and clean not on twitch no simple and clean is the way that you're making me feel tonight andy your pitch perfect rendition will get us dmca you can't do it that's fair well it's in my head it's a very good song um and i wanted to share it so
00:00:59
Speaker
Thank you.

NPR-style Commentary and Humor

00:01:00
Speaker
Also note, Charles and Andy are in the same room today. So they are NPR style sharing a mic. Look, regardless of what happens, the future doesn't scare me at all. Oh, no. Does it mean I have to meet your father, though? When we get older, you'll understand what it's like
00:01:26
Speaker
don't talk unless you're close to the mic it's gonna sound weird and it's gonna make my life hell when i have to put this episode together don't think things are quite that simple all right and you're red you're red you're red we can move on it's just it's been in my in my heart for like the last five minutes why is it been in your heart what did you do nothing no it's it's literally been building up yes

Spicy Food Adventures

00:01:52
Speaker
We ordered food, it started as a slight hum. And then it just started getting louder. I ate very spicy food. Maybe it's Thai food. Maybe it's Thai food. I was just talking about how happy it makes me. Maybe your body's yearning to be simple and clean in the toilet afterwards. I was just going to say, we'll see what kind of cleanse I have after this. I don't think so, though. I'm drinking enough beer. I'll be OK. That'll do her.
00:02:22
Speaker
Uh, Mary's and there you go. Send you on your way. That's right. You pray it. You pray at that porcelain throne, Andy.

Gaming Experiences and Reviews

00:02:31
Speaker
Uh, no, it's, it's, it's interesting now that we've come down from our, our packs week. Um, all the news we had last week and you know, I've, I've taken some time to play some games as we talked about, I finished deaf loop. It was a good game. Um, I'm still working my way through tales of a rise. I purchased more gold for $2 because are part of the problem, James.
00:02:59
Speaker
I can't remember if I bought the horse armor DLC in Oblivion. I may have. Oh, by the way, by the way, I talked with someone who is also playing through a rise playing on hard mode. Yeah. Yeah, you need to buy money. No.
00:03:24
Speaker
exactly don't talk don't talk if you're not near the mic they were just like no I didn't have to do any of that just never felt it this is what happens when we're in our 30s we get bad at games I'm sorry I put that on you that wasn't fair I'm bad at games
00:03:42
Speaker
Well, it's not necessarily being bad at games. I just always want the best gear and armor and not getting it upsets me at a personal. OK, I got that. That's fair. But I'm I'm 100 percent sure you could play the game without doing that. But seeing things in the crafting shop that I don't have the money to craft upsets me on a visceral level.
00:04:04
Speaker
Is it the kind of thing to where you have like eight members but you can only have three people on the field. So you have to buy gear for eight people. Oh yeah. You have six members of your team four on the field to write. Yes they do. They. Yeah. It's all XP share. Also you can use their super attacks even if they're not on the field which I really like.
00:04:25
Speaker
Oh, yeah, that's nice. Yeah. Well, I mean you just play favorites. I have favorites. Oh, yeah. Yeah. We'll never see those other members. They could wear rags and let's say you get to show you're happy enough to come up in the end game cinematic. And I forget that you were at the part of the party size. These four incredibly close members. We know everything about.
00:04:48
Speaker
I mean, there's an option to control anything. You can control any member of the party as you know, your your personal. Why would I ever play as anyone but the protagonist? Pretty much. Yeah. Depends. Is there someone else that has two swords? No.
00:05:07
Speaker
Oh, there you go. That's it. He has two fists on which he puts sword like objects. That might be enough for me. My criteria is, is there a person with two swords? If it's not the main character, I'm playing the two sword person. That's fair.
00:05:24
Speaker
But I mean, I'll tell you what game has taken my life by storm. Tell us about it. It's Gas Station Simulator. Now available on Steam. I've heard good things. It's a fun game. It's a super fun game. And I can't explain to you why. Well, give us a little description. Put up the gameplay trailer to all. Yeah, I'll put up the game for you. You have nothing for all of our viewers right now.
00:05:52
Speaker
Well, this is because we're in the pre-banter. This is in news. This is just us shooting the shit. You could have put on the music video for Simple and Clean. No, I couldn't have because then we would get DMCA'd. Well, not with that new deal. It's not a new deal yet. You don't get incidentally hit with DMCA now. That's it. You get a warning from Twitch instead. Yeah, I don't want any strikes on our account, unfortunately.
00:06:21
Speaker
uh yeah i am uh let's just and put transition so uh gas station simulator is a game in which you get a rundown gas station in route 66
00:06:39
Speaker
And you just slowly grind at this. It is in a weird Zen way, because you have to you have to fuel the you know, people coming to gas, but you also run a, you know, a gas station source, you have to stock soda and snacks and liquor. But you also you also eventually get a garage, you have to get garage parts, and you have to make sure it stays clean. Otherwise people get upset.
00:07:08
Speaker
So it's just this constant stream. You could eventually hire employees too to help so you become a manager, which is the ultimate goal of anybody in capitalism. But that's right. But yeah, it's just great. Also, for some reason, you can break into people's cars right in front of them and steal money out of them. And no one cares.
00:07:31
Speaker
So every now and then I just need a little extra money. I go and I do like the oblivion lockpick thing where you turn the lockpick left and right. And I don't know. There's just so many little pieces of this game that for like on paper, I was playing it the other day and I'm like, I am just running my ass off trying to keep this gas station going. I was like, this shouldn't be fun, but it is. Well, I we talked about this before.
00:07:58
Speaker
You know, as we get older, there's a certain satisfaction of seeing things being repaired and put together. Yeah. Like there's a lot of YouTube videos of people just fixing things. It's nice to see, or people building things. Get a little closer.
00:08:14
Speaker
I was always saying I watch a lot of those, especially like they'll find like rusty, like freaking, what are those things called? Like lighters. There's a person who just restores lighters, like rusty lighters from the fifties. And I love it. I love it. And that's like 40 minutes. Yeah, that's 40 minutes of my life.
00:08:36
Speaker
But I feel like I'm just sitting there and I'm just watching numbers go up and I'm like, all right, I've made two grand. I got to buy gas now. I'm almost out of gas. All right. It made two grand again. Let me fill up all my snacks and liquor. All right. I've made two grand again. I'm running low on tires. Let me buy some. It's just I'm just stuck in this loop and I'm so happy about it. I don't know. It's just a fun game.
00:09:00
Speaker
I you're selling me on it. If only I didn't have these broken arms, my cubital tunnel. I want to I want to say, Andy, I have felt pain like some of these mini games, like especially when you like change the tire requires a lot of repetitive motion. And I'm like, oh, I feel it every now and then. No, I can't do that. Maybe not yet. We'll see.
00:09:24
Speaker
Also, either I turn into a bionic man, not really. This is a this is a good I'm going to play this game for a week and then I'm never going to touch it again, even though this is early access. And they'll be like, it's the new release. Everything's great. And I'll be like, your time has passed. Does this have I was like that with Shipbreaker. Does this have controller support?
00:09:45
Speaker
I don't know. Just based on the fact that this feels like unreal shovelware. I mean, this is I think this is made by the same people who make like car mechanic simulator and thief simulator. So it's
00:10:01
Speaker
Um, I just wanted to say, um, look, get closer. Well, I'm, I'm, I'm at there. Yeah. Um, so there was a, another game of similar, uh, phenomenon, which is a truck simulator. Yeah. And, you know, I know there was a lot of people that were just like, there's something satisfying about taking cargo and bringing it somewhere else. And then sometimes I have to tow a truck.
00:10:30
Speaker
And the best feeling in the world is when you take your truck and you pull another semi-truck out of a ditch. And the thing is, I was not the one playing. I was listening to other people and how they got sucked in. They're like, it clicked to me when I had to tow trucks.
00:10:52
Speaker
you know, you what type of truck do I need for this job? Like, I was like, it's just this collective thing where you don't have the pressure of your of a bigger life. You just have to worry about this job. Oh, sure. And then checking off that like task and Aaron feels so good.
00:11:14
Speaker
Yeah, I was gonna say one of my fears with this game was that if it had like, like food and water and sleep cycles in here, I think I would have not enjoyed it. But instead, I am just this ceasingly immortal creature who owns this gas station. I never eat. I never sleep. I just serve gas. And sometimes that's all you need to do. Survival mechanics don't have to be everywhere.
00:11:41
Speaker
Yeah. But you guys are making me kind of jealous. I don't know if I have a game like that at all. We've had a lot of these games. I mean, there's been satisfactory. There's been Dyson Spheres. Oh, yeah. I like the factorial. Maybe that's like it. Yeah, that's it's very simple. I turn off the bugs because I don't I don't need gunfire. Not not right now. I just I just build the automation. I like to make things all like neat in a row.
00:12:10
Speaker
So maybe I do have that. Okay. I no longer feel bad. I have my own factorial. It's very good. Well, instead of talking about games that are out now and available, let's talk about what could be available soon.
00:12:25
Speaker
And

Nintendo Direct Announcements

00:12:26
Speaker
that's our first new story of the day. Nintendo has a direct coming tomorrow. That's right. Yes. Earlier today, Nintendo announced that it will be having a 40 minute direct focus mainly on Nintendo Switch games launching this winter. It'll be at three o'clock Pacific time, 6 p.m. Eastern Thursday to put a Thursday, September 23rd, just to put a pin on it.
00:12:51
Speaker
Horizon Forbidden West sweating bullets. Oh, yeah, right. They're just like, oh, fuck, we set our date first. We set our date first. I love that's a greater meme across the community. Yeah, everyone knows. It's they would have won game of the year if Breath of the Wild had not released.
00:13:13
Speaker
And it's so sad. I hope Nintendo knows that too, right? Don't give a shit. Listen, Nintendo has heart. OK, no, I believe a company has heart. And that's Nintendo, especially because they better reveal Bayonetta three. I need Bayonetta three.
00:13:36
Speaker
Well, let's talk about what's potentially going to be in there. Bayonetta 3. That's all. I mean, you live that dream, Andy. Released the next day. I'm on it. Well, I want physical edition, so I maybe don't have to wait. You also have the final smash character could potentially be announced. Cosmos. That's it's not going to be Cosmos or Lara Croft. I'm on a Lara Croft kick. I wouldn't mind.
00:14:07
Speaker
I'll get I'll say Laura Croft is at least more likely than cosmos. Yeah, I mean, who knows what that could be. Also, I mean, before we get into just wild speculation of what it could be, there are a couple of things we have a good sense of what's going to be in there tomorrow. One of which is that a Castlevania advance collection has been rated by the by the Taiwan, Taiwanese ESRB and
00:14:39
Speaker
So that will probably be announced tomorrow. Yeah, this will be containing three castle meeting games for the Game Boy Advance Collection, Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow. Aria of Sorrow being really good. That was Aria of Sorrow was kind of the inspiration for the the Bloodstained games that were recently released.
00:15:02
Speaker
Is this published by Konami? Do they still do stuff? I feel like Konami would have someone else do it. It would have to be. Yeah, Konami still owns Castlevania. They mean nothing anymore.
00:15:17
Speaker
And the other thing that leaked, pardon me, no, go ahead. The other thing that leaked was potentially a new controller will be announced. So to kind of get into the weeds about this in America,
00:15:35
Speaker
when you release a new wireless device, you have to register that wireless device with the FCC. So there is a confidential filing in the FCC by Nintendo Japan, which would be on, I don't know what the term is, unveiled, unconfidential on this coming Friday.
00:15:56
Speaker
based on the numbering used in it, which is the product number points to the fact that would be a new controller. It was something of the I don't have it directly in front of me, but the see if it's in this article might not be. Yeah, the the product numbers like h a some h ac and then a number code.
00:16:20
Speaker
which was the number code for the SNES controller. And then it was the number code for the ring fit controller that was announced. So this points to Nintendo releasing another controller. Okay. What is there to do differently?
00:16:37
Speaker
What's that, Andy? What are you going to change? The only thing I can think of is that if I'm lying on the couch with the Joy-Cons and I put a blanket over me, sometimes the left Joy-Con stops working. That's less than ideal. Maybe if it can make it blanket proof, then I'll consider it. It is very annoying though.
00:17:03
Speaker
Well, if you think about how they've released controllers, they released that NES controller and then they released that SNES controller when they added them to the Nintendo online service, went backwards compatibility with all those games or the Netflix library of games they have available on Nintendo online. So this could potentially point to them adding either Game Boy, Game Boy Advance,
00:17:28
Speaker
to the Nintendo Online category and releasing some sort of weird Game Boy controller or potentially releasing Nintendo 64 on there and then getting a Nintendo 64 controller that pairs to the Switch released with it.
00:17:45
Speaker
which if they did that, which would then also point to the rumors of a link, excuse me, not linked to the past. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask update being done and ready, but not announced. So them releasing it on to the Nintendo online service with a Nintendo 64 controller would make a lot of sense. Granted, I want this to happen, so I'm saying it into the world.
00:18:14
Speaker
Manifest it. Manifest it, James. That's what I'm doing. This is how it works. I will say right now, I'm going to make a commitment. If they release a version of Ocarina Time with Master Quest unlocked at the beginning, you have at least $30.
00:18:36
Speaker
Well, I mean, I think it would be free with your Nintendo online accounts. Oh, even better. But I'm just saying you have $30 and I have the GameCube version of it, the pre-order exclusive disc. But I'm not going to hook that up. Why are you why are you obsessed with Master Quest? It was just a mirrored version. No, it wasn't mirrored. It had new dungeons. It had brand new dungeons.
00:19:02
Speaker
It had done not brand new had remixed dungeons. The dungeons were in different places, but had remixed dungeons and I remember one of them had all cows. And that's how I know there's different dungeons.
00:19:17
Speaker
But yeah, that was the point of Master Quest. I think it was like released on the disk drive or whatever. It was Master Quest was included as an additional disk with the game could re-release of Ocarina of Time. Mostly it's just yeah, it's there are some new things in it, but new done in it.
00:19:37
Speaker
in a in a major way, it's really just a mirrored version of the game, which is weird. It was interesting, but weird. Dirty dog. I mean, I don't know.
00:19:50
Speaker
Nintendo 64 controller makes a lot more sense to me than a Game Boy controller. Not that it, not that Nintendo wouldn't do something that fucking weird. So, um, you know, just to keep this going and keep a new take from this as someone who didn't own a Nintendo 64, but I had to go to my cousin's place to play everything.
00:20:15
Speaker
You know, one of the side joys of the Nintendo 64 controller was its perceived utility as a grappling hook and a weapon in real life. You know, like when whenever you pictured it in like in movies and stuff, if people were to fight with the with the controller, they like swing the the GameCube or the Nintendo 64 controller over their heads and treat it like it's a lasso or whatever. Like, I didn't see that.
00:20:46
Speaker
And that's yeah, that's just you know, that's just what you saw in like the old movies and shows around that era. Andy, we had a controller. How useful is it if it's wireless? Oh, Andy, don't talk unless you're on the mic because it's going to make the podcast bad. Well, you can just hear a mumbling in the background in one. No, they won't hear anything. Charles will be responding to sounds. It's all witty and you don't know. Uh huh. OK. No. Um.
00:21:16
Speaker
But also, I mean, that sounds like a nice combination of things for Zelda. I mean, there's other games, right? You have your Banjo and Kazooies, you have your Conker's Bad Fur days. Do you think you'll be able to get those with Rare? I mean, you do have like reasonable like partnership because they could show up in Smash, but like, yeah, it work.
00:21:42
Speaker
I think I think it's not a big I mean, I assume Nintendo's licensing still allows a certain amount because they were the they were the IP holder at the time. Hmm. There's probably something to it. My. But to be fair, my hope, if there's a new wireless device for a switch, do something that even PlayStation could not. Well, Sega could not. Oh.
00:22:10
Speaker
Well, PlayStation 2. Yeah. Andy! Get on the mic and said what you said, because no one will hear it.
00:22:22
Speaker
I'm just referring to a 90s 90s commercial. We say what you said. Yeah. PlayStation does what Nintendon't if you remember. But I think they I think they destroyed an N64 in that commercial, right? Maybe a Super Nintendo or something, but it was very aggressive. But the 90s was aggressive and super sexual. Yeah. Remember that Game Boy ad?
00:22:49
Speaker
There was some Game Boy ad with like some dude playing Game Boy and is better, whatever, and a pouting girlfriend next to him or whatever. And it's just like priorities. Am I right? And I think it was worse than that, Andy. I think she was tied up. Oh, I think you're right. I think you're right. She was tied up. Yeah, there it is. I found it.
00:23:09
Speaker
stop trying to ploy for my affection let me just tie you up so and keep and let me yeah there it is yeah yeah yeah i your girlfriend tied up so that she she won't be distracting while you play tetris on your gameboy pocket
00:23:28
Speaker
Tetris syndrome is real, don't make light of it. Hey, hey, hey, hey, I love Tetris too. But yeah, I hope for a Game Boy-esque controller, similar to a pocket station or a VMU. Sorry, what is that? A ferret in your pants? Classic. That doesn't seem plush. Andy, stop talking. I'm going to yell at you. I'm just saying, like, I don't want to ferret in my pants.
00:23:55
Speaker
It just is. We're looking at it. We're looking at another ad, which is Gameboy more fun than a ferret on your pants. And it's a man very excited about playing a Gameboy OG brick edition as a ferret seems to climb down his jeans. I don't know what for you. Do people own ferrets to put in their pants? I mean, I know someone who owns four ferrets.
00:24:22
Speaker
I'm gonna leave it to their imagination. I'm not going home. Can you scroll down though? Let's take a look at some more Game Boy ads. No, let's not. Just that Nintendo is weird. Anything goes in the 90s.
00:24:39
Speaker
Yeah. So that we have that controller leak.

Wishes for Game Updates and Releases

00:24:43
Speaker
What Andy has manifested Bayonetta three Charles you've accurately put that the horizon team is sweating bullets for tomorrow. What else could be in there probably some Animal Crossing news more than likely.
00:24:56
Speaker
They always throw a little bit of Animal Crossing in there. Well, the problem with Animal Crossing is they've been quiet for way too long about Animal Crossing. It is embarrassing how long they haven't said anything about Animal Crossing. It's been almost a full year. Every time Andy talks in the background, I just want you to imagine a vein pulsing on my forehead.
00:25:23
Speaker
Listen, they're just quiet asides to the conversation. You can't do that radio, Andy. I think there was a I think they like had Mario DLC or not. Not it was free DLC, but I think that's the only announcement I've heard of Animal Crossing was that Mario.
00:25:40
Speaker
Yeah, that's right. There's I mean, they always have their their events, right? Well, these are the seasonal stuff, but that's like that's not even something you mentioned. That's just in there now. No, I mean, they have in past erects. They're like, hey, the seasonal event is coming or something like that. But it's now we're at the point where the year has come, right? It's just like it's there now. Like, that's what you expect as my little sister who loves playing Animal Crossing.
00:26:06
Speaker
She tells me how there's just nothing. There is literal nothing. And so like, even when you tell me that, would you be happy if you played every day and heard, we added two pieces of furniture and it's been four months and five months. That's nothing. It's never, that's like barely a mention. You might as well just not say anything and put it in your patch notes.
00:26:31
Speaker
Fair enough. I have to manifest something else. What's that? I want to manifest Xenogears. I don't need another Xenoblade and Yasunori Mitsuda is recording a new soundtrack and he recorded Xenogears, also Xenoblade 2. But let's get a new Xenogears. Let's go. We don't need more Xenoblade. Leave it alone. I don't need a big open world. I don't need that. There's enough games with that now.
00:27:01
Speaker
I need just loose Judeo-Christian themes that don't really mean anything but peak curiosity. Just give me a bunch of that. That's all I need. So I'm manifesting that. Speaking of DLC, they'll probably be more DLC coming from Mario Golf. They'll probably talk about that. That's your favorite. I do love Mario Golf. We also could have some talk about Mario and Rabbids 2 potentially being released in the winter.
00:27:31
Speaker
Uh, we could there was also there was rumors about being a new Donkey Kong game for the E3 presentation that didn't get announced. So it could possibly be here like with the good studio. What's the good studio called? The one that made retro made those, I think it's the one that made Tropical Freeze, which is. Yeah, I think that was retro. So if they make another, I still haven't played them. So what the heck do I know?
00:27:59
Speaker
I should. Also, we haven't heard anything about Splatoon 3 in a while, so potentially they could come in with a release date on that. Also, I bought Splatoon 2 candy in Seattle. It's gross. I mean, it's supposed to be ooze and it is ooze, but no one needs that. That mouth feel. It's just literally no one needed that. Maybe children. I don't know.
00:28:26
Speaker
Andy is the this is the equivalent of Andy tweeting at the voice actor of a game and saying they need to release platoon three faster. I can't. Why are you so mean to the character? Oh, lady. Also, kind of maybe an Alfest rumor that you two should probably manifest in as we could hear what's next for Fire Emblem. I think it still might be too soon.
00:28:57
Speaker
Ah, I mean, so the Fire Emblem team partnered with Koei Tecmo to make the last one. So we don't necessarily know what the full team was doing in that time. When you say last one, you mean three houses? Three houses. What do you mean, warrior? Three houses, Koei Tecmo made it. Hmm, that's weird. Yeah, so exactly. So now you're kind of like, well, what have they been doing?
00:29:17
Speaker
Oh, well, so there's been talks about, like, remakes of Fire Emblem. Like, I think one of the thoughts was doing, like, genealogy of the Holy War, which I think is Fire Emblem 4. I don't know, specifically, I am an avid Fire Emblem heroes mobile game player. But boy, do I know a lot about them after five years.
00:29:40
Speaker
But that is a very well-loved game and people have been hoping for a remake of it based on the voting popularity polls of wanting new stronger characters from what game. So that could be a thing. I mean, I I enjoyed three houses and I don't know. I mean, Nintendo fucking all Japan fucking loves Fire Emblem. Right. So I would not be surprised
00:30:05
Speaker
Because when those three houses released, I want to say that was the beginning of the pandemic or right before it. It's just before it was it was like 2019 fall. Yeah, I was. Yeah. July 26, 2019. So now we're. Yeah, we're a little over two years. That's the release of three houses. So potentially hearing about what's next is possible.
00:30:30
Speaker
I have to manifest something else related to Fire Emblem. What's that, Andy? I need another Tokyo Mirage session.
00:30:40
Speaker
I don't know, but that's OK. I want loose association to Fire Emblem and Persona by having all of my characters be pop stars and their special abilities be pop songs. Don't worry, Andy, we only talk more about that in a later story. Listen, we could put keys in an eye in there. She's they could have a Vtuber. Maybe they could put Vtubers into there.
00:31:06
Speaker
I don't know, but I'm going to think some more about this. But Tokyo Mirage Sessions was a very good game. Listen, they announced Metroid Dread at the last Nintendo Direct, so basically everything is now on the table.
00:31:20
Speaker
Another one, please. Hey, isn't Sega and Atlas are supposed to reveal a new game? That's the last story we're going to talk about today. Wow. But we can talk about it now, Andy. Let's shift up the story. Next on our list, Sega and Atlas will be announcing a new RPG at Tokyo Game Show. We'll be holding a live stream on October 1st. If it's new, what would new be?
00:31:46
Speaker
Well, new means a lot of things, right? Yeah. Did they say new IP or just new game? Let's see here. I really want it in my heart of hearts.
00:31:59
Speaker
persona game set in Yakuza. That would be good. No, I mean, seven is just persona adult. Like that's all it is. And it's wonderful. It's just that's all it is. It's just listed. It says a new listing on the TGS website has claimed. So basically it's just saying new unannounced game.
00:32:29
Speaker
There's a lot of the director of Persona. I think he made a new studio to make a new RPG and it was going to be fantasy themed. I'm pretty sure about that. Yeah. So maybe it'll be that because I remember thinking, good, I don't need another persona.
00:32:48
Speaker
We don't need another persona ever again, just like you're solid. Studio zero is the name of that studio. Yeah. So I hope they make another I love the studio do something else. I just don't know. Do you guys need another persona? I don't know. I do. I mean, we're now five years from the long. It seems ridiculous to say that, but we're now five years from the release of Persona Five.
00:33:15
Speaker
Well, OK, five years since the release of Persona 5. But then there is also the spinoff Strikers came out, I think, last year. And then, yeah. And and Royal came out, you know, last two years ago. Let's say, yeah. And like Strikers is technically a canon story after Persona 5. Like there's been stuff that's been building on the Persona universe. It's just not stuff that we consider to be proper sequel. Does does the main team work on the spinoff games?
00:33:48
Speaker
I don't think they do. I don't know. I mean, I think they they get everyone involved, right? They got the the warrior guys in there and they got the Hatsune Miku people in there. They got. So the dancing game has a studio, which is the developer.
00:34:07
Speaker
it of persona five has is listed as the only developer on the dancing game strikers they were partnered with omega force
00:34:19
Speaker
That's that's the Mosu people, right? That's the Musso people. I think. Yeah. Yeah. Those are the Musso. They've got everyone. Well, hopefully if it's another it's another game and it's not persona. But I'd love something by that. Well, we got Catherine when they didn't make a persona. Mm hmm. I want a Catherine over a persona. Mm hmm. Actually, that would be interesting. I would like a video game centered around adults. Yes. That's true.
00:34:50
Speaker
I mean, I mean, Doc is a seven kind of prove that you can have a game about old men and everybody loves it. Their 50s like 50s, not 30s. And honestly, here's the thing. I something tells me if they just said it at an abandoned gas station, you just need to build it up again. You know, and you don't have to eat or anything.
00:35:17
Speaker
That might do it for me. That might do it for me. Yeah, there is there is a rumor that it could be related to Sakura Wars because it is the twenty twenty fifth anniversary this year and a logo for the series was briefly spotted on the TGS website this month.
00:35:33
Speaker
And apparently, Sakura Wars is popular. Which, you know, it's big in Japan. That's enough for them. It is. It's not big here. I mean, hey, that's how Fire Emblem survives. They had a big budget Sakura War mobile game that tanked.
00:35:55
Speaker
Yeah, they brought it offline in less than a year. Well, they had. They just released a visual novel kind of game this past. It was 2019. So I don't know if that's soccer or wars is. Oh, how does this cool girls that fight? Yeah, but there's robots in there.
00:36:20
Speaker
I think in the latest one, you're also technically their manager because they're also idols. That makes sense. That makes sense. Japan.
00:36:30
Speaker
I'm and here's the thing. I don't know the other ones. Maybe they are always idols. The 2019 version has has three genres attached to it. Action role playing visual novel and dating sim. Yeah. Which granted you can apply those three to persona five as well. So that's true. That's true. So maybe we need a soccer or is I don't know. I don't.
00:36:58
Speaker
Um, also just kind of a TGS info dump square annex confirmed. It'll have a 50 minute event. Um, we may hear more about final fantasy 16 there, which, you know, I was kind of surprised we didn't see it. The PlayStation event, uh, this past week, but yeah. Uh, I doubt they're really going to push guardians of the galaxy at Tokyo game show, because that's not the audience for that. No.
00:37:27
Speaker
Um, and then Microsoft will also be doing a Tokyo game show live stream, which I don't know how that will go, but we'll we'll see. Yeah, it's going to be interesting for Square. Um, it's because it's one of the things first 14 Final Fantasy 14 and Walker's coming out in the fall. So they'll part of the section if you wanted to have good marketing is to talk about that. But they just had a live letter last Friday.
00:37:56
Speaker
announcing new job actions, which was which was fun to watch. However, and the why this is relevant is that the director of Final Fantasy 14 is also the director for Final Fantasy 16. And so if you if you worry about like, you know, we don't want our news to compete with each other, you kind of don't want 16 to eclipse your very soon to be released game expansion 14. And also you're the director of both. Hmm.
00:38:27
Speaker
So it's going to be interesting on how they if they decide to balance that or if they do do one over the other. I thought I thought Yoshi P is kind of moved off 14 at this point. No, he's that that's his baby. He he's been known to say this is that's the game he's always going to stay on.
00:38:45
Speaker
I thought he's no longer like on the official. He's active, completely active all the time. Is this main speaker for it? I'm looking right now. I think he's just a producer on 16. He is just a producer on 16. He's basically the director. He's the director of 14, but he's a producer on 16. He is just such a sweet man.
00:39:11
Speaker
Like he is just so great. Also, Yoshi P is in his name. It's Naoki Yoshida just. Yeah, but but everyone calls him Yoshi P. Like, I know you call. I just think it's important to 51. I'm convinced Suda 51 doesn't have a real name.
00:39:28
Speaker
I don't know his name. Yeah, I don't know Suda 51's name, but I love Yoshi P. I just think, though, they're going to be so busy at the Square Enix Tokyo Game Show press conference talking about a new Parasite Eve.
00:39:46
Speaker
Because I'm in the mood for one, you guys. Yeah, you're going to get one. It's all your project, Eve. No, no, that got my hopes up. But I've been going through an art book of Parasite Eve. Let me tell you, generously gifted by Charles and what's his name? Nomura Nomura did the character designs and he has an imagination.
00:40:14
Speaker
That's why he's tasked to do Kingdom Hearts, Andy. Well, I'm talking about in the amount of clothes they wear. I just wanted to share that. Fair enough. Like the art. Hmm. That's all I'm saying. Speaking of people wearing too much clothes or even not enough clothes. Or at all. Quantic Dream has been working on a Star Wars title for the past 18 months.

Star Wars Game Development

00:40:43
Speaker
Uh, if you're unfamiliar with who Quantic Dream is, they are Luke Cage's, uh, or David Cage, excuse me. Luke Cage is this Marvel superhero. David Cage, uh, studio making such games as the recent hit Detroit become human, but also indigo prophecy, uh, two souls. And then there was another one that I'm not forgetting.
00:41:07
Speaker
heavy rain that's right yeah he he he basically i mean they kind of paved the way for your 3d visual novels of your life is strangers and your telltale games right he was kind of the forerunner of that he's also a pretentious french douchebag but he still makes good games
00:41:28
Speaker
Listen, I am a defender of David Cage. OK, be careful how far you be careful how far you go with that, Andy. I like I like his games, too. I don't like him as a person. Yeah, I don't. I'll always stand up. Well, I don't want them to be not nice to other people.
00:41:47
Speaker
But I think his studios in court right now in France or whatever, because they weren't treating their employees well. Gas stocks. But I like Quantic Dream Games. I think I think they're good. Everybody poo poos on them. I think I think their style of game is very particular. Right. In the same way that life is strange is very particular.
00:42:13
Speaker
So but but yeah, I mean the idea of a Star Wars based thematic story with driven by Quantic Dream sounds really fun to me. I think that sounds very exciting. I think they'll do a good job.
00:42:31
Speaker
I've always said about David Cage. I think he's not good at writing overall stories, but he's very good at creating moments, which I think outweighs, you know, the payoff in the end. I think he's a master at creating moments, requiring his decisions. He has trouble with the moment to moment dialogue, which congratulations. Star Wars is shit at moment to moment dialogue.
00:42:57
Speaker
So, you know, it will fit right in where people just announce their feelings and just say and just kind of soliloquy for no reason. Look, I am interrupting right now. Yeah. You know, I agree with everyone else. Actually, you know, Quantic Dreams should be able to make this work if only because the appeal of Quantic Dreams games
00:43:25
Speaker
you know, isn't necessarily about gameplay because gameplay is very secondary. It's it's it's really, you know, reduces to quick time events and a B choices, stuff like that. It's not meant to be like this heavy gameplay stuff. It is about a visual. It's it's a visual novel at its core. Right. And
00:43:47
Speaker
You know, in terms of Star Wars, the real thought is just going to be about like what type of story they want to tell. For me, I hope we stop talking about post original trilogy and post new trilogy. I like the Republic, like old Republic era stories. They're much more fun, I think, and I hope
00:44:11
Speaker
Yeah. The story there is good. The only reason why I think that's more fun is because it feels more balanced on what type of story you can tell. If you tell a story where the Empire is the dominant force, it gets really like, okay, how do we overthrow the Empire? Well, did you ever play Force Awakened? I did.
00:44:33
Speaker
OK, I mean, that was a very good empire in charge story. Yeah, but but that's the thing, right? You have to play this like thing where you're part of it and then eventually you kind of not part of it anymore. It's just like, you know.
00:44:49
Speaker
We don't have to do that. Technically, you don't have to play a story where that's the major focus. You could. That's the reason I like the Old Republic, because technically, any story could happen there. It doesn't even have to deal with an empire or Sith or anything. It could just be like... Yeah, because it happens 10,000 years before the main Star Wars canon. So literally, everything can just be written off.
00:45:17
Speaker
Right. And that's something I'd rather have. It's like I don't like this looming shadow that you always have to kind of carry with you in a Star Wars setting. So it's just nicer.
00:45:27
Speaker
I I would imagine a Quantic Dream Star Wars game involves you as a bounty hunter getting dragged into some sort of mystery noir style. I mean, again, I love David. I love David Cage's games, but they're all kind of the same.
00:45:48
Speaker
Except for Detroit become human. Actually, Detroit become human was a different kind of story. But even then, it did have a detective story in the middle of it. So I mean, heavy, heavy rain, indigo prophecy and two souls, twin souls, whatever are all at their core. Detective noir stories. I like.
00:46:09
Speaker
I just want to make difficult decisions that stay with me. Yeah, that's that's he's good at that. He's good at forcing moral conundrums on you. Yeah, still stay with me. It's it's remarkable. I think he's very talented. I just allegedly he doesn't treat his employees nicely. Also, he modeled all of
00:46:32
Speaker
El, uh, Elliot Page's pre-transition body for no fucking reason. Oh, there what? There was a shower scene. No, there was, but he didn't have to model his entire. No, he didn't at all. Yeah. Oh, yeah. What else was I going to say about this? Um, hmm. Talking about this, Star Wars. OK. All right.
00:47:02
Speaker
Old Republic, too many women. Yeah. Abusing women. Yeah. There's also a lot of women abuse in his games, too. But I think that's also more of a that's a that's a trope of the noir detective style, which I don't necessarily want to give him free reign on, but. Yeah. Hmm.
00:47:27
Speaker
Yeah, you know what? Yeah, I don't have anything else. I think we cover most of it. I mean, I don't I don't know where you would announce that. Oh, I remember. See, and my fun with the David Cage game is.
00:47:44
Speaker
Is not to is to recognize a moral conundrum and then just go what I feel is correct for the player or the character And then and then see how uh, look at everyone else's agony Uh on their choices and I just go I think it just makes sense for this character to do this
00:48:04
Speaker
That's how I play it too. And I like, uh, you know, in the later part of, you know, I'm not sure this is, I have not played all Quantic Dream games, but I do enjoy at the end of the, you know, the chapters of Detroit that gives you percentages on where people ended up.
00:48:20
Speaker
That that was that was new for Detroit and and also that ability to start and like you could just go back to certain moments of the story. You didn't have to replay the whole game to replay certain choices, which honestly was very nice. Hopefully they keep that in the Star Wars game they do in the future. I was going to say, I don't know where you would announce this.
00:48:44
Speaker
Not a Tokyo game show. No, absolutely not. Although David Cage is weird. I wouldn't expect this GDC. That's like Europe's game. Yeah, GDC would feel good. I think we may not hear about this until next E3. Games come. That's what I meant.
00:49:06
Speaker
Oh, oh, well, yeah, GDC also is a G, GDC's in San Francisco around the same time as E3. But yeah, I don't know. I just I'm thinking about it. I'm like, I don't know where this slots in, right? Oh, I mean, it doesn't have to. There's a lot of games that just that just announced that there is a trailer, I.G., an exclusive whatever next thing. So it doesn't have to necessarily do it.
00:49:31
Speaker
Um, so I, I think it would have been nice, but I also agree that it doesn't really slot anywhere. So they probably don't have to force it. Sure. Well, speaking of games, the just getting released out of nowhere.
00:49:47
Speaker
Deltarune Chapter Two was basically dropped this past weekend.

Deltarune Chapter Two and Future Show Teasers

00:49:53
Speaker
Deltarune, if you're unfamiliar, is the sequel. Not sequel. We don't know quite yet, but it's the follow up game to hit Undertale by Toby Fox. When did he release Chapter One? I want to say almost two years ago at this point. He released right enough.
00:50:12
Speaker
Yeah, he released chapter one kind of episodically of Deltarune about two years ago as kind of a prologue slash teaser. And now he's also decided to release chapter two for free, which wasn't his original plan. But he's taken so long to do this now. He's saying that I didn't want to have you guys waiting for another.
00:50:34
Speaker
two to three years before you got anything so he released chapter two for three with the plan this chapters three four and five will be released all together as one paid platform so this may be the last one you get for free that's fair either you never played undertale to completion
00:50:54
Speaker
Really? I've played it twice and then I get to the Cow Lady and then I'm like, well, I guess I'm gonna stop playing. I don't know why. And I bought it before it was cool. Yeah. I remember I bought it when Detoid reviewed it and I was like, that seems like an interesting game and then I just never played it. And now it means so much to every high schooler out there. So much.
00:51:17
Speaker
What about you Charles? I've never played it. I've never played Undertale and the thing for me was I have a certain aversion to when something becomes more of a cult hit.
00:51:32
Speaker
of some
00:51:52
Speaker
The thing with what I'd say, the thing about, well, you know what? Life is strange. Even if it was a cold hit, I did not. It was a game I'd never heard about. My friend was like, played his game. And I was like, you know what? I love this game. Everyone else should play this game.
00:52:09
Speaker
So, but in terms of like Undertale, the only time I'd heard about it was when everybody on the internet said, Undertale is incredible. Here's megalovania. And what about, you know, genocide runs and blah, blah, blah. And then I was just like, you know, everyone's made a perfectly good bubble over there. And I don't need to jump into this.
00:52:40
Speaker
You know, if you're if you're unfamiliar with Undertale, it's it's basically it's a it's a very whimsical RPG in kind of almost the Earthbound style, but it kind of flips a lot of RPG mechanics on their head and acts as a both a foil and a critique to them. And I think a lot of people and the and the message that thing and then you save and restart it remembers stop it.
00:53:11
Speaker
I mean, hey, that was novel when it happened. Of course. I think it was wonderful at the time, but unfortunately it got overplayed out, I think, and then it makes cynical 30 plus year olds just not want to play it, which is too bad. It's too bad, but I'm happy it exists and Delta Rune seems like it's good.
00:53:33
Speaker
from what I understand. Yeah, skeleton. What's the skeleton's name? Delta. Delta rune. We don't. Well, it was sands or no, Sarah and skeleton, Sarah. Well, there's two skeleton brothers and Sarah. Yes, it's a font joke. Oh, undertale. Just so, so clever.
00:53:53
Speaker
It's also inspired by Moon Moon Remix RPG. That's true. I tried to beat and that thing is obscure as all get out. It makes no sense in the end. That's wrong. At least you can complete Undertale. I'll say that I think to Toby. I think Kobe Fox mentioned Moon as being one of his inspirations. Yeah, he had he had mentioned it and I don't know. I just wish it wasn't. God bless it. That's all I'll say.
00:54:24
Speaker
So yeah, Toby, recently the game Moon came out in English on Nintendo Switch, an adventure game where you explore an RPG world gathering. Love from various strange characters. The concept was an inspiration for Undertale. So there you go. Translated by Tim Rogers.
00:54:41
Speaker
Yeah, that's right. I forgot about that. But no, I mean, it's interesting. It just kind of came out of nowhere. I believe there was kind of an undertale fan anniversary stream that happened last week. And he he kind of ended the stream and then very Marvel post credits came back on the stream and then kind of, you know, tease that he was going to show chapter two as like a
00:55:09
Speaker
like a trailer or maybe a release date, but then just being like, yeah, I'll be out Friday. So it's always fun. It's always fun when developers do that. Yeah. And here's what I say. You know, probably big proponent of Undertale. I've never been. I've never played it past us. I think the skeleton past serif. I, however, know everything that happens into it. And I am delighted by the story. Like, I think most probably.
00:55:39
Speaker
I'm not smiling anything for you guys. I swear. I mean, you know, I think it's, it's inescapable at this point to know there are twists in it, but I still think the ride is worth it to get to those twists. Yeah. And it says a lot of things about RPGs that we just take for granted. And it goes, you know what you're actually doing, right?
00:56:03
Speaker
Uh, but yeah, I think that's all we had for today. I mean, next week we'll probably be dissecting the Nintendo direct. Charles, will you be back in your own place? Are you still going to be a wandering nomad by next Wednesday?
00:56:19
Speaker
Next Wednesday, I should I'm actually probably not going to be able to make it because my flight would I would leave. Oh, you know what? No, I'll be able to make it because I will leave. My flight will leave the the central time zone at 430 and I will land at 430.
00:56:43
Speaker
I always love that. So technically, yes. And I'll, you know, if there's any problems, I'll notify you. Maybe push it back. Yeah. Yeah. But hopefully I will have opinions even on the flight. Oh, so.
00:56:57
Speaker
We'll figure it out, but we'll figure it out next time on Add to Party, a friendship simulator masquerading as a new show. I've been your host, James Hartwell, and I've been joined by. Uh, Charles, you're not a Pikachu main. Tyco. No Tyco. Pikachu main. True.
00:57:18
Speaker
And I'm Andy K. I was hip-hop Pikachu main. Maybe I'll be a Taiko drummer, Pikachu main. I don't know. I got to try out the outfit, but it does look cute. Oh, quick. Oh, quick. Oh, quick aside. I did open those Pokemon packs that I bought at PAX. Oh, yeah. Got got six full art. I in no way made my money back on those cards, but it was fun while I did it. That's what matters.
00:57:44
Speaker
That is what matters. Have fun this weekend, everyone. Have fun this weekend. Good night. Good night. Those are kisses. That's assault.
