Speaker: Welcome back to another episode of Under the Vinyl, a rental management media podcast. Kyle, how you doing buddy? You know, Nate, we've had a frustrating Monday so far. it's ah it's It's a Monday of Mondays. um Yeah, but, you know, it's almost over. We're taking it in stride and we're laughing. That's all that matters. We are. It's been a busy day.

Speaker: Lots of meetings for me. And so just happy to come in and knock this out and see your beautiful face. But we're going to something different today. Something fun. No guests today. No tailgate talk. We're going to do what we call the Tent Company Draft.

Speaker: oh Yeah, a little bit of fun today. So we're going to do a little industry draft here. um couple rounds, go through this and just kind of debate what is the what's the best overall positions and some other things like that. So we've actually brought in producer Alexa to ask us the questions and go through round by round. how do you think What do you think about that, Kyle?

Speaker: You know, I'm looking forward to it I think I'm going to build a better company than you. All right, let's do it.

Speaker: Okay, round one. First overall pick, what role are you taking first and why? Kyle, I'll go first.

Speaker: Okay, that's good. Let's see. Round one, first overall pick, I'm probably going to take a... Oh, man.

Speaker: ah ah Project manager. You see, i'm going to take a salesperson because there's no project to manage without sales. I understand that, but my thought process would be if you could take a project manager, they can also sell. If they know the job and they can go out on the job, then they should know how to sell it or know the jobs in the product, right? If you get a salesperson and a salesperson only, who's going to be out on site and howard that salesperson may not have all the knowledge to teach it.

Speaker: Yeah, but the project manager can't mind manage projects without selling the first. You got to sell the first project. Come on. What do you define yourself as when you're selling a project to a client and then you're also the one on Skype? I'm project manager. Uh-huh. We're not doing that. Hey, this isn't a tech Kyle. This is a draft. this isn't a tech Kyle. Jesus. I'm throwing some facts out here, you know?

Speaker: So, all right. You take salesperson. I'm taking project manager. This episode of Under the Vinyl is brought to you by Right Choice Ducting. When it comes to climate control and structure support systems, Right Choice Ducting delivers solutions you can count on.

Speaker: Round two, you only get one piece of equipment for the next year. What's your first pick?

Speaker: Kyle, 10 Hawks.

Speaker: One piece of equipment for the next year. Oh, Lord have mercy. i think i would act good I think I would have to go 10 ox as well. no you see Now I'm second guessing myself.

Speaker: um Well, okay, let me see here what your second one would be then. I might go telehandler because like you can do every type of job.

Speaker: But drive stakes. but tried You got sledgehammer. Well, I think, okay. What size 10-ox are you taking, though? An 860. Okay. now you're not stay You're not standing up a 25-meter or 30-meter with that. That's the issue.

Speaker: No, but if you have enough guys, you could do that. Not a 30-meter, but yeah, you would... ah Okay, let's put it this way. You can rent the equipment that you need, right? Oh, then I'm definitely taking 10 oz. Okay, so let's talk about owning, and you can't spend any money the rest of the year. Okay, 10 oz. 10 oz, 860 for sure, just because it's so versatile with all the different attachments and things like that, right? Yep, 100%.

Speaker: but Okay, all right. We agreed, see? How about that? Finally, we freaking agreed on something. Woof, shit. Round three.

Speaker: What's small tool you couldn't survive without on a job site?

Speaker: ah Zip ties. just gonna say oh i hate to answer this question this way and i i don't know how that looks out there to everybody uh but i would think 100 zip ties um zip ties fred's or self taps yeah self- self tappers you do a lot of self tappers so self taps and zip ties uh that sounds really bad together by the way um but I mean, I think that there's a lot of things out there that we are using self taps and zip ties for, right? but You know, you use a lot of self tappers when every truck door is full, full of like 100 of them with the bit that fits up.

Speaker: The guys just leave them in the truck and they know they always have them. Yeah, but there's nothing worse than when somebody self taps into a brand new frame. Or when your stuff starts coming back like Swiss cheese. Yeah, I mean, at some point in time, you got to say stop.

Speaker: but Yeah, hey, boys, can't we use the same hole for the fire extinguisher clip? Like, every time? It's not convenient enough. God forbid. ah Yeah, don't get me started there. You couldn't have moved it over one leg that already had the clip on it? You had to drill a new one? no or get the same Or get the same leg, trying to get the same leg to the same job that had the same perfect hole each time.

Speaker: yeah That's hard. So now everything has holes. all right, so the zip ties and self-taps. All right.

Speaker: Round four, which dream event are you drafting first?

Speaker: Ooh, Kyle, what do you got?

Speaker: Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, but that's just because like boats. You know, um I guess here's the thing, like and this isn't having a big head on what we do, but...

Speaker: a lot of the events we've done like big events. Right. So like these dream events, we've been fortunate enough to do a lot of these. So it's like, man, um, I don't know that I would want to do like a presidential inauguration unless, uh, like that's not my dream event.

Speaker: Um, but that would be pretty cool. Right. Um, we've done super bowl. We've done master's work. Um, you know, I think Ryder cup would be cool as hell. Yeah.

Speaker: That'd be good one. Right. Ryder cup or, uh, the U S open. I don't know if you watched any of the U S open over the weekend, but like seeing all the, how they have the walkways that go across like the sidewalks that the players have to walk up and across that everybody's building.

Speaker: I think that is cool shit. So honestly, probably like a U S open, something over in another country that we could do would be fun as hell. You know, Now we're getting off topic, but going say it. We really need to find someone like... We should do a tour of a golf tournament.

Speaker: The stuff they do is nuts Yeah, yeah. And we could beat that horse for a while. I think that, um you know, there's a lot of companies that do it. And, you know, ah do with talking with the tent boy himself. ah Hey, Richard, we're coming at you.

Speaker: When Richard, it's just really interesting because I would love to see. i know we can never find this out. and This is down a rabbit hole here. But how companies price them so differently because you hear that those jobs don't make money, but people aren't doing them to not make money. So it's like, yeah, you know, it's but it's it's just really interesting because you got the big companies and you smaller companies. And yeah, just how they do that. But I would probably go the U.S. Open overseas, anywhere overseas, Ireland, Scotland, England. That would be fun.

Speaker: and You just like golf. and I love golf. um I don't know. I guess as far as the biggest headache of that, I guess we'd just be getting the material over there and stuff. That would that'd be tough.

Speaker: I don't even know how you start to figure out how many containers you need. You just start saying, bring them to me. I'll fill them. Well, I think the biggest headache would be putting the structure in there long ways and having to pull it out, you know.

Speaker: um But have you been to Germany? Okay. Watching how they put the structure on rollers into the boxes and how they drive it in, it's it's pretty wild. It's pretty I've seen how they pull them out in Frederick.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's pretty insane, but I feel like that's the biggest headache would just be the overall shipping of things and trying to pull it all out of there. Yeah. All right.

Speaker: This is fun, Nate. Here for you. All right. Lightning round. What is your biggest event industry pet peeves? Go. I got to be careful what I say here.

Speaker: Can you move that 10 feet, please? You can just you just pick it up and move it, right? Just move it over two feet. That's fine. Yeah. It's so easy. Yeah. Last minute change orders.

Speaker: Hey, there's no private utilities here, I promise. Hey, we're a base short on this. I didn't realize what meters. I didn't realize meters and feet were two different things.

Speaker: um This tent doesn't come with sidewall? Yeah. Yeah. oh Oh, wait, I got one. ah When the kitchen tells you they just need 12 outlets, but they neglect to tell you that they need 60 amps per outlet.

Speaker: Or can your guys move a couple things for me when they come to set up the tent two hours later? I didn't really think it would take that long. Sorry. I got to charge you for that. Well, we don't really have it in the budget.

Speaker: That's always fun. my Oh, I got this one. You guys might not get this as much as we do, but the ah Thursday after 12 p.m. when they finally realize it's going to rain on Saturday and the phone starts ringing and they I've had someone say, you guys just don't sit around and wait for it to rain?

Speaker: No! ah why do Why should I pay for a rain plan? yeah That's a good one. That's probably the big, you know what? I'm going to go down a hill here. ah that's probably that's That's probably the one that I hate the most is ah why should I pay for the rain plan?

Speaker: And then when I tell them, hey, you should put it on the contract. And if you don't use it, we can work out the price. Oh, no, it's fine. And then the day before, hey, can we do this? And then you have to hurry up and get it there. Yeah, that's that's not fun.

Speaker: What do you know? You're just a tank guy. Yep, I don't know anything. First one in, last one out gets blamed for everything. Yep, that that is my biggest that's my biggest pet peeve. that That should be a podcast about itself, especially when the decor company just takes down all their stuff, throws all the trash on the ground, the screws, the bolts, the nuts, and then you're left to pick it all up off the ground once you pick up the floor. God darn it. I have actually lost a job because, a job that I did all the time, because there were zip ties all over the ground.

Speaker: after we left and the planner tried to blame us for it and told the the venue that they shouldn't use this anymore because we left the zip ties all over the ground. In reality, it wasn't us. It was the, uh, it was the decor people cut them, left them on the ground and then blamed us for it. But of course, no video evidence. so what are you going to do in my spiteful days, which are like currently every all day, every day, uh, the production company tried to leave with all their, they left, they catered lunch every day and they tried to leave all their food for me to clean up.

Speaker: So there was one guy left. I don't know who he was, but I had my guys take all the food trash and put it in the backseat of his car. and Yeah, or ah or then the company that shall not be named that has heating and AC and power, not United. um They drive to the yard and then and then they're out before you and they blame you.

Speaker: yeah yeah Yeah. That one works too. That's probably my biggest pet peeve for sure. But yeah, now you've struck a nerve. we could go We could go down a 20 minute hole about this. it I mean, it's ah it is a pet peeve for sure. Need secure access for your structure? Speaker: Yes, sir. Can see the back of your shirt?

Speaker: if

Speaker: yeah Damn. So, well, we're going to, first off, I don't know who drafted the better company here. I really love i just wanted to distract you because going say you did. I would love to hear from everybody in the comments. um If we can get some if we could get some ah feedback on who and what you would draft, that would be fantastic.

Speaker: But before we close out the episode, too, want to talk about um we've been working on something with Tenox, Andy from Tenox. let's Let's not lie here. Andy from 10 Ocks has been working on this. The kid's been killing it.

Speaker: Yes. He's, I mean, he does have what a degree in graphic designing. Yeah. Yeah. and Way more creative than us. Way more creative and marketing. So we we went to Andy and we wanted to do some merch and come up with some stuff ah that we could put out and do a little bit of a collaboration with Tenox and Under the Vinyl. um And what we've kind of come up with is making making a new brand, I guess, is what you could say, that blends Tenox and Under the Vinyl together.

Speaker: So what you'll see is um currently the 10 OX logo has got the horns up here. And now, I don't have the sticker, but we'll put it out on social media.

Speaker: The 10 OX now in this one has the ah the headphones from under the vinyl. So... We're calling it. We sat down the day array, I think and we did, um and we were throwing some ideas back and forth, and we came up with vinyl misfits. So we thought that would be really cool. um Andy shipped out a box to us the other day with some samples.

Speaker: I think it's kick-ass. I sent it to a bunch of people that love it. um So look for that. Look for some samples to be coming out. um we will We're going to figure out how we can start marketing these for the industry. i Kind of a new new all-around wear for the industry, right?

Speaker: Yeah, and we're going to have some meetups at shows every year, so it'll be good. Good time to get together as your friends. Yep, and we'll get these ah we'll get these we'll get some out if you're lucky you and get some for free, but there will be we will be coming up with a storefront of some sort to start selling these as well, so you can support us and Andy's graphic design skills as well.

Speaker: So, Kyle, anything else you got? No. Well, this is a quick episode today, but we got a lot of good guests coming up.

Speaker: A lot of fun guests coming up over the next couple weeks. And you know what? I have mask of the yeah yeah ask i got an ask of the listeners. If they want to hear someone, let us know.

Speaker: Yeah. Let us know what you want. If there's anything in particular, Kyle has lined up some great guests for us over the next couple of weeks. ah Some very unique ones too. Not maybe people that you'll know in the industry, but just some products that is that we use in the industry as well. And just get some better knowledge of that because we've had people asking about certain products and what we wouldn't what we wouldn't eat what we would and what we wouldn't use um So, yeah. So I think it'll be good. A little educational podcast stuff coming up. So just a short one today to kick us off and for some good stuff coming up.

Speaker: Deuces. Kyle. I'm out. This has been another episode of Under the Vinyl, a rental management media podcast.
