Introduction to Eberron Renewed

00:01:16
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, an actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I'm your game master, Eric. I'm Phillip. I'm Trevor. I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. And welcome to another episode. Gentlemen, what happened last time? We had lunch. Yeah, we basically went to like TGI Fridays or Rainforest Cafe.
00:01:38
Speaker
And at this point I've forgotten what happened next and the part that we didn't actually record, so I can't pretend to just really say it. We went to find out how one of the other restaurants of Charin has managed to survive the shakedown from House Galanda that Holfin is currently dealing with. And apparently the answer is don't hire anyone, just get robots to do the work.
00:02:01
Speaker
Yep, hire, well, you don't even have to hire, just use animated armor. Obtain automata. Use your history of, I mean, likely committing multiple crimes as an adventurer to later finance your business with the spoils of your conquest. Which really raises the question, there's got to be buried treasure in Ulfin's past.
00:02:29
Speaker
Almost certainly.

Leveling Up Characters

00:02:30
Speaker
So obviously that's the solution is we just need to go dig up the buried treasure of Captain Two Legs. Is that his pirate name? I hope not. Honestly, think of a better pirate name because you can hunt.
00:02:50
Speaker
You tell me some guy's name is, you know, Johnny Firecracker Beard. He's the first person, like, I'm gonna know which one he is when I walk into a room. Everybody, not everybody, but most people have two legs.
00:03:00
Speaker
So anonymity. Well, I was actually assuming that Captain Two Legs was not Ulfin because you would go dig up the pirate treasure of some long dead pirate captain. Fair enough. Presumably, if Ulfin had his own treasure, he would already have used that. Maybe he did, though. Maybe that's how he got the restaurant, I mean. I do think it's important to point out that Ulfin asked us to do this. This was not like the goodness of our hearts. Like, man, we really ought to.
00:03:29
Speaker
We're gonna figure out how we can help often. No, we very much were directly asked to do it. All right, yes, that was a good summation of the arc, or the arc, the downtime episode. So now this is the beginning of a new arc. Has anybody spent experience and who would like to share what they spent experience on?

Game Mechanics Discussion

00:03:50
Speaker
Milo, do you wanna go first? Sure.
00:03:54
Speaker
Um, I took brilliant casting when Milo cast a spell, he can spend a one story point to add boost die equal to his ranks in knowledge to the results. And I'll be using knowledge lore, which I have two ranks in and I also took heroic recovery. And when you get that talent, you choose one characteristic I chose intelligence.
00:04:23
Speaker
And once per encounter, I may spend one story point to use the talent to have Milo heel strain equal to the rating of the chosen characteristic, which is his intelligence, which is I believe, four strain. And I also, due to my, due to Hobbes regimen, I'm also a little, a little toughened now. Yep. Awesome. Hobbes.
00:04:55
Speaker
Yeah, sure. I'll be honest, I'm still trying to pick out what I'm going to take one more rank in before we actually start playing, but everything else that I did, I chose two talents, one tier two, one tier three. One is Headbutt, where, honestly, tier two I was paralyzed by choice and ended up just going with one, but I do like it. Once per encounter, the character may perform the Headbutt Incidental.
00:05:20
Speaker
I suffer two wounds, but I select one engaged target and knock it prone and disoriented until the end of the next round. Awesome. Yeah. And then the other one I took is just, it's very, very hard and I'm very happy that I stumbled across it on this list. I can make a hard coercion check.
00:05:39
Speaker
to convince one bystander equal to my willpower, which, I mean, Eric's gonna have to tell me if it's valid, to just go. Just leave and don't tell anybody what's happening here. So that's dope. And then so far I've taken one rank in negotiation, because I really do need to beef up my social skills. My dice rolls need to match the level of speaking skill that Hob thinks he has.
00:06:11
Speaker
Um, Raynard, did you spend any XP? Um, after my marathon of spending experience, I did not take an arrest. That's my rest day. Okay. And Eris. I got the tinker talent, uh, tinkerer talent, which lets me add a hard point to an item for every rank in tinkerer that I take. So I added a hard point to the Fletcher, uh,
00:06:40
Speaker
What does that mean? Hard points allow you to put attachments on items. Excellent. I'm hoping I'm not the only one that didn't know that.

Sigil's Research Obsession

00:06:53
Speaker
The Fletcher started out with two, but when I improved it and it attained the ancient make, for some reason it lost one of its hard points. So I took this talent to put it back. And then I also took
00:07:12
Speaker
another talent that will probably come up in the course of the episode. So I'll leave that one alone and describe it when it's narratively relevant. Okay. I should have done that with plausible deniability. Eric, I'd like for them to walk away. Fine. Okay. Well, thank you all. So let's go ahead and get started. So,
00:07:39
Speaker
You all are in the for sales, once again. It is earlier than we normally start ARCs, however. It's about using real world time, about 10, let's say 10, in the morning. So whatever you all would be doing, whatever state you would be a few hours before when we normally start, that's where you're at.
00:08:05
Speaker
Um, Sigil is in their booth, still studying away. Ulfin is behind the counter, doing what Ulfin does. And you've not seen Kath and Sana yet today. They have not come by the four sales. So only Sigil they're hanging out. So what are all of you all doing? Is it important that Eris be awake? For this part, no. You could say that Eris is upstairs asleep.
00:08:35
Speaker
Aris is probably, yeah, probably passed out on her work desk, on her worktop upstairs. I assume that Aris does most of her actual job. I don't know, when would you do repair work on slot machines?
00:08:57
Speaker
Uh, having spent some time working in a casino, it's either, um, late ish morning or at around three to four in the morning. Um, so that's probably when Eris does hers. And so Eris probably comes home, sits down, works some more and then passes out. Okay. Uh, Milo is in a booth and he is going over the ledger. Okay.
00:09:27
Speaker
Well, we're in our drinking. It's 10 o'clock. It's 10 o'clock in the morning. Okay, well, I'm having an Irish coffee. Okay. Sorry, that's a Brie-lish coffee. A Brie-lish coffee, Trevor. Brie-lish coffee. Play in the space. I don't think Brie-landers and the Brie-lish have a reputation. Is Sauna there?
00:09:57
Speaker
no cap and son have not been seen yet okay okay i i miss that that i apologize uh... it is that here's what it is often is on a step ladder
00:10:07
Speaker
with hammer and nails, and Hobb is holding some decoration stuff up for him. Just using the one thing he's got is his height, and he's just helping Ulfin do little things that, without putting a lot of thought into it, I think, Ulfin was like, I don't know, I'll put up some pretty stuff in banners, and I don't know, and like that, so he's helping with that. He's put together a net with sea shells and stuff like that, like cotton that he's hanging up. Oh, he's definitely mounting a marlin.
00:10:38
Speaker
Yeah. There we go. Oh, he's definitely mounting a swordfish. That is what my man, Hob, is doing right now. Right over the bar. OK. All right. So you all are doing those various things. When those of you that are currently awake, a figure walks into the four sails. And it is a warforged that walks in that is a little bit shorter than Sigil.
00:11:06
Speaker
But you could easily imagine three sigils standing shoulder to shoulder would be about the width of this warforged, very thick. And yeah, the warforged enters and kind of takes a beat, looks around,
00:11:24
Speaker
Unlike Sigil, who has more of a copper look, this one looks very much like your traditional war forge, kind of stone metal with wood fibers underneath, those elements, and looks like they would have been a soldier in the last war, is kind of your beat on this person. And after a second, Reynard and Milo, since you would be the two kind of
00:11:54
Speaker
in a position to pay attention. After a beat, they spot Sigil across the room and he makes a beat over to Sigil and walks over with a certain level of concern. It's not like you don't think he's crossing the room to go beat Sigil up. It's like an, oh, thank God, there you are kind of movement. Sigil, buddy, I've been looking all over for you.
00:12:20
Speaker
And I think he pulls out the chair or slides into the booth or whatever, like doesn't ask to see it, just plops down next to them and get high level. Uh, Sigil doesn't even really look up and this conversation is happening loudly enough, Rainard and Myla to where you can easily hear what's going on. Uh, Sigil just kind of glances up from their papers and, and, uh, just documents that they've been looking over. It's like, Oh, hello, safe. Um, what, what can I do for you?
00:12:53
Speaker
Are you staying up all night and reading this stuff? I mean, I am a construct. I don't need to sleep. So yes, I'm staying up all night and researching. Sitchel, while I appreciate you laying out for me the basic needs of the forged, it's not the fact you might be tired. I'm concerned about you are obsessed
00:13:23
Speaker
you need to take a break from this. I don't care where you go, what you do, come back to the armory, we'll play some cards or something. We're worried about you.
00:13:40
Speaker
I, I'm not in any danger. I'm quite content with, with what I'm doing. And while, while Sigil's talking, they pick up a piece of parchment that you can't see the other side of, but kind of compare it. Like it's clear that they're, they're comparing your Gura to, to what's on the parchment and kind of shakes their head and tosses it back down.
00:14:02
Speaker
Um, actually can safe take it. Yeah. Are you analyzing me now? I come sit down to be concerned about you and you, and you can't even take a second away. You're going to compare. I'm your friend to talk to me like that. I'm, I'm, I'm sorry. That just that, that particular, um, Gura referencing a schema that, that is located somewhere in the city looked similar to yours. So I wanted to make sure that you weren't potentially in any danger. I was looking out for you.
00:14:29
Speaker
I'm looking out for all of us, that's why I'm doing this. And Sigil, I'm looking out for you. You're gonna lose yourself in this. You need to take a break. There's a clattering as Eris stumbles down the stairs into the common room and goes and finds coffee. Safemight would likely know names, right? If they're friends. Yeah. Does Sigil talk about us?
00:14:59
Speaker
Probably at one time. I can't imagine Sigil did. I can't imagine Sigil hasn't mentioned, I guarantee you, Sigil, I can't say that because I don't know Sigil. It would be hard for me to believe that Sigil did not make a point to mention the people who tried to save their place that night. Sure.
00:15:16
Speaker
Uh, with your permission, I think, uh, safe would like to bring the tube of guys at the bar. He's pretty sure that one of them's Milo. He's not pausing. Pardon me. Also in the, the restaurant, he's pretty sure he knows that that one is Milo and he's taken pretty confident guests. The other one is Rainard. Yeah. Um, I think he's, he's going to say, uh, excuse me. Uh, are you, are you, are you Milo?
00:15:45
Speaker
Yes, that would be me. Sigil, they go out and do work with you guys, right? That would be correct. Who am I speaking? Oh, my name's Safe. I'm a neighbor of Sigil's at the Armory. Friend? Of course. I wouldn't be here checking on them if I wasn't. Now, my question is,
00:16:11
Speaker
Have they been going out recently, lately with you? No, not really. Sigil seems to be fairly... Now that you mentioned it, fairly absorbed. Yeah, yeah. Not much as it seems I have become, but yes. So I can understand.
00:16:38
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. I don't really know your whole thing, though. So, um... And you're not going to. So, I think safe... Raina, what's in this coffee? That's what's really going to wake you up, Aris. I think safe says...
00:17:08
Speaker
You're not even doing your job anymore? This is part of my job. This is something that we found on a job and I'm following up with it.
00:17:22
Speaker
Two additional versions of this one schema that I now have. She has one, and Sigil gestures at Eris. No, she has two, actually, according to Sigil's knowledge. She has two, the other two. But I'm concerned about what these represent based on the warforged that we encountered when we were on that job.
00:17:42
Speaker
And the big one over there really got it handed to him pretty definitively by a few warforged and that's concerning. So it was concerning and now I think I'm finally just starting to
00:18:00
Speaker
gain a bit of understanding about what's going on, but I don't know for certain, and I need to keep tracking down leads and looking into research, and the Chyron records are all but lost, but I'm trying my best to cipher through those, but Kornberg is not being any help and more grave. Sigil, you need to take a break. You're not acting in a healthy way right now.
00:18:31
Speaker
Okay, I'm not telling you to give up on this. Buddy, I want you to do this. This is, well, that's a fraught statement. I said this is what you were made for, as a fraught statement with a war board. Clearly. What you're good at? Yeah, that's good. Like, clearly you're a natural at this stuff, and if it's really gonna help keep you and me and everybody safe, I want you to do it, and I encourage you to do it, but the way you're doing it right now,
00:19:01
Speaker
come to the Armory tonight, don't bring these papers or bring them and put them back in your place. Come out to the common area, spend some time, see everybody again. Remember what you have outside of this task or this task is going to ruin you.
00:19:24
Speaker
I appreciate your concern and I will try to stop by the common area. There's just two pieces on what I'm working on right now this morning that if I don't track down then I won't be any fun to be around. I'll just be thinking about that even though I don't have my papers in front of me. So I will try to resolve
00:19:52
Speaker
those two things today and then perhaps I will see you in the common area tonight for something. We didn't really build safe out as a personality. So I think what's going to happen now is safe is going to stand up and he's going to obviously he's he he knows.
00:20:16
Speaker
You know, the two tricky ones were Milo and Reynard. If he's mentioned them, if he's heard about them at all from Sigil, the Goliath and the blue-haired girl stuck out. So he knows that's the crew, those who are listening to the crew. And I think he says as he stands up, if you people care about them at all, you'll help them get a brick and leaves. I've been trying. He doesn't want to.
00:20:44
Speaker
Yeah. As Eris chokes back on the spiked coffee. Okay. So yeah, that conversation concludes and Sigil immediately dives back into the papers in front of them and examining things and seems to be taking notes about something. So yeah. Eris watches for a minute and says,
00:21:15
Speaker
I mean, I didn't understand that they look all right to me. I think Hob gives up on mounting this Marlin. He realized it's going to be a lot easier to do once it's taxidermied. And so he goes... Once it's dead.
00:21:43
Speaker
Oh, for that did my best, but the dang thing wouldn't stop flopping around. Darn you got me a couple times. No. The one thing that is not been made clear, but I will elucidate out of character, is that Hobb actually does deeply care about the people who
00:22:11
Speaker
he feels do right by him and do right by the other people in the group. And Sigil, maybe more than anyone else, it's certainly not one of us, it's definitely Sigil Catharsana that would be the champion of that category. So I think Hob goes and sits right where safe was, because he knows he'll fit proportionally. And, you know, Sigil, I don't understand any of this. But if you can
00:22:42
Speaker
point me in a direction to acquire a thing or to make someone come talk to you. I can do that. I can't help you understand this stuff. Uh, I don't know what a gruel is. What was the word? Gura. Yeah. Well, I don't know either. If you figure out what the other one is, would you let me know as well? Um, and
00:23:12
Speaker
I mean, that's it. He just puts that offer on the table and then waits to see what they have to say. It's kind of like oatmeal. Gruul. Oh, okay. No. Gulra. You don't know. You probably would.
00:23:31
Speaker
And Sigil looks up from their paperwork and says, Ghoulra, it's this. It's the unique mark that every warforged has on their forehead. You have fingerprints, we have a ghoulra that is our unique identifier as to who we are. Except it's better, it's like magic, right? Yeah, yeah. It's like a dragon mark.
00:23:57
Speaker
Basically, and with that statement, Eris and Hob, you both can do this since you're actively engaged with Sigil. Give me a hard, so three purple knowledge lore check. I know that's neither of your all strong suits, but.
00:24:21
Speaker
If anybody else that's engaged in this conversation, I know Milo, you chimed in a couple of times. You can make that check as well. Raynard, if you want, you can make that check also. So you want me to make a three difficulty knowledge lore check. Yes. Eric is threat. If you would like to, if you would like to, you don't have to. No, I do. I do want to. I have two threat. All right. Perfectly balanced pool.
00:24:50
Speaker
I will not be doing that, as all things should be. And yet, you succeeded more to a greater degree than I did. I may have just rolled blank die. Milo's about to roll. Just because. Okay.
00:25:12
Speaker
So three success for Milo. So Milo, as this conversation's happening and Eris makes that statement of like a dragon mark, you've existed in this world enough and have encountered enough people, this isn't like difficult knowledge to know, it's just an odd connection to make, which is the difficulty of the role. Sigilsgura,
00:25:38
Speaker
As Eris says that, you kind of realize, looks very much, very much like a least version of the Mark of Making. Like they have a dragon mark literally etched into their forehead. Which is not common. Typically a warforged ghoulra is not as complex as Sigils.
00:26:04
Speaker
And honestly, at passing glance, it would honestly probably look like something hit sigil in the forehead with how intricate the designs are. It just looks like there's a scuff mark almost. But Milo, you kind of realize this, as a pack of roaming dogs comes into the foresales. Of course they do. Get out of here, get, get dogs! And Olaf comes out with a broom and starts like smacking up.
00:26:31
Speaker
Hobbes is if you touch those dogs, then I will. I'm not going to hurt him. I'm just trying to get him out. Maybe that could be your draw. You could have a pub dog that lives here and, you know. Not these dogs. They bark nonstop. It could bother the customers. You just have to train them. And if it was like, you know, well fed and lazy, it wouldn't so much.
00:26:58
Speaker
Or alternatively, don't have animals where people are eating. I think that's a pretty good draw. Well, what about that swordfish? If there was a bar with dogs and a bar with nut dogs, I'd go to the bar with dogs.
00:27:21
Speaker
I'll take that. Have you seen some of these patrons that come in here? This coffee is hair of the dog, you know, Harris. I would like to roll initiative. Okay, so Milo, do you communicate this to the rest of the group? Or say anything in the moment? Are you gonna wait until you're not around sigil to? When Milo
00:27:51
Speaker
When it dawns on Milo, he gets up out of the booth and walks over to where Sigil is sitting. Halfway over to walking toward Sigil as you get up and walk over, you hear the front doors of the forest sales slam onto the wall as somebody comes sprinting through.
00:28:13
Speaker
and you see Sana doubled over, like she's just ran the length of the city in kind of workout clothes, and she looks at me like, Kath's been arrested. Kath got arrested.
00:28:30
Speaker
by Sentinel Marshals. They said something about obstruction of Marshals in the field of duty and that they cited that there were two Sentinel Marshals that were on a job and that Kath and Associates impeded them in their work. And then she goes back to like,
00:28:56
Speaker
Deep inhale trying to to slow her heartbeat down. I came here as fast as I don't know what I tried to follow them and
00:29:08
Speaker
They said that if I kept following them that they would arrest me for obstruction of an arrest. And it was two human men that came and arrested her. We were jogging through the upper part of the city. We had breakfast with my parents and we went for a jog and they arrested her while we were out.
00:29:37
Speaker
Jeff is trying to wreck his brain. Is this a job she was on with us? And I just can't think of it. He was the only NPC on that job with you.

Kath's Arrest by Sentinel Marshals

00:29:46
Speaker
The train job where, of course, where the Sentinel Marshals who hate you attacked us. Right, right, right, right. Oh, yes, of course, the paint. Those two jags. I'm gonna have to kill their brother.
00:30:08
Speaker
I mean, and then. And that would certainly get your obligation down. What are we going to do? Oh, right. I'm assuming we can't catch them en route to whatever precinct or station they're going to.
00:30:30
Speaker
Either they would have taken her to a local City Watch prison, or they would have taken her to the Deneth Enclave, where they have holdings for people that Marshals have bounties out on. When they... Well, I hope it's the first one. Yes. Quite. Second one's a fortress. Yeah. Yeah. What... What are we...
00:31:02
Speaker
I feel fully justified in writing this because obstruction of personal vendetta of the law enforcement officer is not actually a crime. So I don't feel any qualms about doing what we need to do to stop it. Sittin' on marshals don't care about that. Well, clearly they don't, but I do a bit. Well, no, I... Yeah. I'm thinking universal right and wrong as opposed to...
00:31:27
Speaker
Right. Municipal. I, what are we going to do? Are we, are we going to like, and Sana is clearly like on the verge of, of going into full panic attack mode. Oh, Raynard, who's your, uh, who's your officer friend? Oh, right. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
00:31:57
Speaker
What was her name? Literally, it was Verla, but I cannot remember her. Verla, yeah. I don't care about the last name. I call her Verla. For the purposes of my note taking, how many days has it been since we went to the consistent void? Oh, fair enough. It has been a week. Cool.
00:32:20
Speaker
At some point I'm gonna add all these up and work out the date. Let me know when you do. So yeah, Verla Mordane is her name, Reynard. Ah yes, Verla. What do we need from her?
00:32:39
Speaker
She's a cop, our friend just got arrested. Well, she's a detective, as she so loves to remind me. But with the watch, right? She's not a private detective. I didn't ask, but we can find out. No, Rainard, if I had two things in one hand, and two things in another hand, how many things do I have total?
00:33:07
Speaker
this sounds like a trick question i thought you just have the one the one and then another anyway art let's i can take you to her if you don't get real sober real quick i'm gonna drive you into the ground kath is in jail i don't think you'd like me sober honestly so let's go
00:33:39
Speaker
Fine. Okay, so yeah. Hey, wait, wait, wait, wait, real quick. Hobb turns around and he says, Sigil. Yes. Do you want to come occupy yourself in a different way, in a way that will help immediately your friend, Cath? Right, come on, Sigil.
00:34:09
Speaker
and Sigil starts to look at the papers in front of them and what? You can see what I built. Um, Oh, okay. And Sigil begins gathering papers and like clings them to their chest as they walk up to you all expectantly. Like I would hate it if you lost some of those while we're out. Perhaps you want me to get you a tube. I have a bunch of tubes. You put them in a tube.
00:34:39
Speaker
Okay. Like a bike messenger tube? Document tubes. Eris makes schematics. Of course, yeah. Anything that's delivered in a tube, Eris keeps the tube. I don't mind carrying the tube in my robes if you're comfortable with that.
00:34:57
Speaker
That sounds, how are you comfortable with that? That sounds very uncomfortable. You wouldn't be able to bend your legs. What's up with your rope? You'd be like somebody trying to smuggle a baseball bat in their pants, bud. And the tubes are that big? Oh, I was picturing like a mailer tube. I was thinking like a, yeah, like a blueprint tube. But I don't know how big are these. Man, how big are these?
00:35:19
Speaker
Yeah. Well, you're also very little. Anyway, Eris has already disappeared upstairs and there's some banging and clattering and then she comes back down the stairs with, let's just say like a bike message along with a sling on it, just for convenience sake of everyone. And then Ophin extends a hand and says, I'll put it in my chest under lock and key. It'll be here waiting for you when you get back.
00:35:46
Speaker
That's fine, too. Well, I have lots of loose papers in there, so it's good that it's in the tube. It's a pretty cool chest, too. Yes. I think it had treasure in it. I don't know what you're talking about. It's right. You know, I was wondering why it was still covered in dried seaweed. Sana's at the door. Can we go? I'm trying to get help. They're smart. We could use them.
00:36:15
Speaker
Milo scoops up the ledger, he's headed to the door. Raynard, you know that Verla's jurisdiction is the entirety of the Memphis Plateau. So her offices would presumably be in the upper Memphis. So that would be kind of where you would expect to go. Well, then away we go.
00:36:44
Speaker
So, um, yes. So you all load up into, uh, into the boat and begin to take off towards, um, the upper Memphis plateau.
00:36:55
Speaker
And, uh, yeah, I mean the, probably as, as most of you are at this point, at least, uh, career criminals, uh, you would be aware of where the city watch HQ is. Um, so yeah, you're able to, uh, to dock and, um, it, it looks like a heavily reinforced building. Um, you can see in the back where there's lots of, uh, there's, there's kind of a fenced off area with a large dock with a large amount of, of,
00:37:24
Speaker
city watch boats ready for a moment's notice for them to take off on patrol. So yeah, what's the plan? Just go in and ask for Verla? Well, Reynard can. Chug Dumplin's gonna stay out here.
00:37:46
Speaker
That's the name he gave her. Is it really? Yeah, I remember yesterday, I said, I'm Chug Dumplin. And then I just said, I said, I said, I'm Chug Dumplin and she's like little something. I don't know what it was. I said that between. Did I write it down? Well, I just said she's and you and Sana were both there. So I don't think I directly said which one they never specified.
00:38:12
Speaker
So yeah, Raynard, they're telling you to go in alone. Are you gonna do that? I don't see why not. Okay. So yeah, you all, or you head in to the City Watch station for the Memphis Plateau, which is in a fairly wealthy residential district on the upper Memphis Plateau. It's called Platenate for anybody taking notes.
00:38:42
Speaker
that honestly,

Reynard's Mission to Detective Verla

00:38:45
Speaker
in terms of places outside of the Mithril Towers where Kath and Sana's parents live, this is probably the most desirable neighborhood to live in. So, Raynard, you walk in through the front doors and you see a receptionist sitting behind the desk. He's a gnome that's sitting there taking notes and looks up and kind of cocks his head and says,
00:39:11
Speaker
Mr. Turnveil. Funny seeing you in here knotting cuffs. Well, that jacket's at the cleaners. Come and turn yourself in. No, no, I just needed to speak to Verla, please. Really? Yes.
00:39:36
Speaker
OK, let me take a look real quick. And he pulls out a ledger and begins flipping through it. OK, yeah, she's lucky for you. She's here. She's interrogating somebody right now. She's in interrogation room, so she won't be available for about 10 minutes, hopefully. And if there anybody like you under interrogation, it might be less. And she'll be in her office after that point. So if you want to take a seat, I'll let you know.
00:40:08
Speaker
Yes, I'll wait. Thank you. And... Go ahead.
00:40:15
Speaker
Nope, I was just, I hope that was the right choice. Guys, it's been nine minutes. I think he's been arrested. We should probably move on. So yeah, after a few minutes go by of this receptionist that you would know the name of his, his name is Clive. And he's one of the regular clerical workers here at
00:40:42
Speaker
the Memphis Plateau City Watch HQ. You see Clive kind of reach and touch something. He's like, yes, Detective Mordane, you have a Mr. Raynard Turnvale here to see you. And he like brings a finger up to his ear and like, oh, okay. She'll see you back in her office through that door on the right.
00:41:13
Speaker
And thank you, Clive. You're just as helpful as ever. I try. So, um, yeah, if you don't, uh, if you don't come back out through the lobby, I won't be surprised. Mr. Turn veil.
00:41:30
Speaker
Yes. And he laughs as you go through the door. So yeah, you're able to easily spot painted on one of the doors, the door's windows, Detective Mordane, Sharn, City Watch, and so...
00:41:46
Speaker
and it's cracked open so you're able to walk in and you see Verla behind a desk with a stack of papers and her feet up on the desk window behind her is cracked it's clear that she's has an inner monologue going and she looks and there's something about and then he walked into my office and that little did I know his name might as well have been trouble so you know how to whistle
00:42:12
Speaker
So no, she is behind stacks of paperwork. Most instances that you've seen her in out in the field or at the fancy dress party that you saw her at. She was fairly well put together, but it's clear that she's kind of in the weeds in this moment and she sees you walking like, I'm sorry, what? Why are you here?
00:42:35
Speaker
Verla, I can't come to say hello. No, you can't. You cannot. I'm a detective for the Sharn City Watch and we have an extensive file on you and your dealings with the clan. And having a very rough day I can tell. Thank you. That's exactly what I need to hear right now. I'm going to reiterate my first question. What?
00:42:59
Speaker
Well, since you're just going to shove my pleasantries to the side, I'll get right to the point. I have a friend who was wrongfully abducted by some city watch? No, Sentinel Marshals. Oh, Sentinel Marshals. And we're just wondering how we can handle that.
00:43:26
Speaker
One of your friends had a bounty on them by House Denethan. We're taken in by Sentinel Marshals. Witness the level of shock and awe on my face at that statement. And she just looks at you deadpan. At this point, Hobb outside says to the other four, it's been 15 minutes. I thought he was gonna go in there and find out where she was.
00:43:55
Speaker
I think he's in there alone with her. I think we need to do something. Perhaps she was busy. Are you all making a move to go in? Because at that statement, Sana seems kind of itchy to do something. Sana, you know how busy they can be.
00:44:18
Speaker
Be patient, give him some time. My sister is the custody of the Sentinel Marshal. I understand, I'm just as worried as I could be. Since you have a lot of patience right now, apparently. Well, we just have to rely on Raynard to do his best. Great, that made me feel so much better. I understand that too.
00:44:45
Speaker
Milo. Eris is crouched behind the pilot. He does have a bit of chom. A stranger walking by just goes... You must know some other radar.
00:45:09
Speaker
Genuinely, Jeff thought Trevor was gonna go in and find out. I mean, detectives rarely are in their offices, like during the day. So I think Hobson would say, sonna, do you want us to go in there and see what's going on?
00:45:31
Speaker
If she's in there and she could do something for us, she's way more likely to do it for the sister of the person wrongfully arrested. Let's give Reynard another minute and then we'll go in there. Certainly. But if he's about to walk out the front door with her, I don't want to make it awkward by meeting them in the lobby.
00:45:53
Speaker
Uh, Hobb is, Hobb is absolutely flabbergasted that everybody has this much, uh, faith in Reynard right now. Because Milo's just trying to make it as sound as good as he can. Where are you going to say Jeff? And that's it. I mean, Reynard's drunk talking to a cop that doesn't like him and he's a criminal. That's that's all. And I would suggest that we do not all go in there. Um,
00:46:21
Speaker
Okay, so let's cut back to Verla's office. Okay, so one of your friends allegedly has been wrongfully detained by the Sentinel Marshals. What's your ask here, Reynard? I guess is my question to you. What would you like me to do? Where was she taken?
00:46:54
Speaker
Okay, now that question makes me more concerned about what your intentions are. Just so I know where to address the letters I'm going to send. Dissertation rights. Okay, Raynard, you're kind of asking her to do a bit of work for your benefit on good faith. So go ahead and make me a charm check.
00:47:24
Speaker
with a one red, one purple difficulty. Yay! Oh, wow. Okay. I did it. You did do it. One success, one advantage. Just barely did it. Okay. Told you he had some charm. So, Verla kind of looks at you with
00:47:49
Speaker
her look very familiar to you, Reynard, from Verla of a smirk and just baffled. She's baffled by how
00:48:05
Speaker
braggadocious you are, like, and she finds that somewhat charming for some reason. So she says, okay, let me contact our liaison with House Denneth in the city. And what's your friend's name? Kath. Okay.
00:48:34
Speaker
I don't know the last name, I'm sorry. I honestly don't know if I've given them surnames. You have not given them a last name. Well, you may have given them a last name, but you haven't given it to us. Okay, so Kath's full name, she doesn't have like a surname proper, but it's, her full name is spelled K-A-T-H, apostrophe O-O-L-T-A, so Kath Ulta.
00:49:05
Speaker
Which would be her her clan name her her father's name would be drawther Ulta basically, so Anyway, that's that's the name that you can give Renard. Yes. Her name is Kath Ulta. Oh half work, okay Okay, let me let me could be full work you don't know I
00:49:30
Speaker
Fair. Could be double orc. What's your problem? Could just be human from the Martian. No, I imagine that she, uh, Verla in her file has, uh, at least a rough description of known associates of race. Oh, it's the half-orc that you hang around with. Um, so, okay. Um, so she kind of tells you take, sit down, sit down. And she pulls out a small stone and pops it in her ear. Um,
00:49:58
Speaker
and says, yeah, contact me with, uh, with Reggie. Yeah. At, at the enclave. Reggie. Hey, Reggie. Um, yeah. So I have somebody in here inquiring about a, uh, a person that was taken in by the central marshals, uh, this morning, uh, Kath Ulta. Mm-hmm.
00:50:28
Speaker
and her eyebrows kind of pop up for a second.

Kath's Situation at the Enclave

00:50:30
Speaker
Oh, okay. Okay, all right, bye. And she takes it out of here. Okay, so here's the situation. So your friend Kath Ulta was taken in for, essentially in layman's terms, obstruction of justice with the sentinel marshals in the field. Apparently two sentinel marshals were attempting to
00:50:57
Speaker
To collect a bounty, Laelia and Tastra are the two marshals in question, and your friend did something to obstruct them.
00:51:11
Speaker
bounties out on, um, they don't have names for everybody, but, um, there is, uh, a hob that Reggie told me about and then a young human woman with blue hair and a half lean with a distinctive scar on the side of his face. And wouldn't you know it, an elf with short gray hair. So, um, I don't know them.
00:51:44
Speaker
But here's the situation. But here's the message communicated to me from the Enclave through our liaison. Apparently there is a message amongst the contacts within the Enclave that
00:52:10
Speaker
if anybody comes asking that they are requested to come to the Enclave to collect her. So I don't know if you want me to follow up with that or if you're good with that messaging and you know, but she is at the Enclave. Well, I think I have the information I need.
00:52:40
Speaker
Okay. Thank you for your time. Smokeball. Raynard. Be careful. I would hate for somebody to finally lock you up for good. That isn't me. Yes. And Raynard crosses the threshold of the door, pokes his head back through and says, Verla,
00:53:05
Speaker
A little mascara wouldn't hurt. And walks out. You monster! That's... Man. I feel like that's the worst thing Renard has done, his entire campaign. Okay, I think it's important to make sure everyone knows that Trevor's not like that.
00:53:33
Speaker
He's playing a jerk very well. Yes, I would not do that. But I think she knows Raynard means it in a way that's meant to help her. It'll make you feel better. Just put a little mascara on. Okay, so probably around the time that Sana is hopping out of the boat to make her way across the
00:53:59
Speaker
The path up to the front door, Raynard comes sauntering out, and Sana kind of rushes up to you, does not wait for you to get to the boat. I was like, what's going on? What did you find out? Well, we're headed to the Enclave. Oh. We're what now? Cath is at the Enclave. It's worse. I should also mention there's a bounty out for all of us.
00:54:30
Speaker
Except Sona. Well, I wasn't there. Or Sigil. I have a packed bag in Tasha. How does everyone feel about that? About leaving my sister to rot in a Denethan enclave? Not great. I mean, if we can get her back, that'd be great. But then maybe we all just run because it seems like it's the list of people who
00:54:59
Speaker
know who we are and want to do harm to us seems to be growing at an alarming rate. No? No, I've lived here all my life. There's no going anywhere for me. Where did you get food, Milo?
00:55:24
Speaker
Can you hear me? There's a street vendor. That cart over there. Can you hear me outside? You were in there forever. We got hungry. It was in his robe, is that it? It was in the tubes. He's eating the cordon dog. Yeah, Hobb says, I mean, it's pretty clear that she's in there because of me. So I'm not going anywhere till she's out of there.
00:55:53
Speaker
I mean, if there's a bounty out for Alden. Go ahead. After she's out of there, then? I don't want to point fingers, but Harburs was the only name she actually had. Right. I have already pointed that finger. It was right there in the thing that I said. It was a big finger pointing at me. Yes.
00:56:25
Speaker
Well, here's another. It's all your fault. Do you know? Was there any? Did she say anything else? She told me to be careful, I believe. I was leaving when she was talking. Did she say anything else? Like maybe before that. Right. This is cold. She said something else, Trevor, if you could.
00:56:55
Speaker
Ask your character to remind you of props. Yep. That there was a specific message that anybody that came calling for Cath come to the Enclave to collect her. Okay. Well, that's why I said we have to go there. Okay. Well, she said that there was a specific message that anyone who went calling for Cath would need to go to the Enclave. To collect her.
00:57:24
Speaker
to collector that's what we're doing and that that absolutely hearing that the fact that these two
00:57:34
Speaker
Police officers are taking his friend to use as bait because he threw their brother out of a bar. He's going to go and he's going to do one of two things. Reason with them with those facts or beat them into submission. And to be fair Jeff, privatized bounty hunters. Now. Worse than cops maybe.
00:57:58
Speaker
I think absolutely. The cops around here aren't good. But I'm saying that's absolutely a worse thing than cops. If it's a trap, it's a trap for us. So you gotta ask, what happens if someone who's not us comes to collector?
00:58:25
Speaker
Like, Sona, or her parents, or, you know, she's got friends who aren't wanted by the Marshals. I'm not saying that if that, I'm just saying, why is us walking in a trap plan one? Well, I believe that the collection is disingenuous. Right, now I understand, but I think so too.
00:58:50
Speaker
Can we have this conversation on the way, please? And who's to say they won't just keep collecting people for us to come collect? Well, they don't have bounties out. Surely it can't possibly be legal that they just grab people off the street. I don't think they work completely within the law. That's literally what these bounties are. Quick question. But they have to have a bounty of this paperwork involved. While this conversation is going on, I'm going to let you continue it. Who here has the highest perception?
00:59:22
Speaker
Could be. Probably not me. It might be me. I've got. No, no, I would do some scrolling. I have no ranks in it. I've got three green. Two green. I've got three green. What? Two green, three green. Philip and Trevor both have three green. I have two green. We've yet to hear from you. I have a yellow and two green. Okay, so it's mine. There it is. Milo. Okay. Actually, probably sauna, if I'm just gonna guess.
00:59:49
Speaker
Okay, so on Sana's role, Milo, you spot as this conversation's going on, Sana has like tried to slip out of the back of the boat and is headed for like a sky cab dock to go hail somebody. We need to move, Sana is heading toward a dock.
01:00:12
Speaker
I mean, she's not far enough to wait. She's not so far that you can't call after her. She's not like down the block or anything, but. That's what I just did. Oh, sorry. Yeah, so. Can we go faster? Can we go instead? We're going, we're going. Don't do this on your own. And so, I don't blame Rodney Piss, too, for relitigating this. We're going to get, I'm going and with, with Sauna.
01:00:39
Speaker
Yeah. Let's be off. I think it's a very bad idea for all of us to walk into John Clay. I'm... Okay, so I'm saying, surely we know. In the world, there's international law that governs the marshals.
01:00:55
Speaker
They're abusing it to try to get at Hobb, but it can't possibly be true that they can just literally grab anyone who walks into the enclave and arrest them. Yes, correct. But you all also know that specifically in Hobb's case, those international protections would not apply. Right, but I'm saying if Sana walks in, they don't have a bounty for Sana. They cannot just arrest Sana because they're jerks. That's not an option.
01:01:25
Speaker
illegal. We can have this conversation on the way there to decide who's going to go in first. And I agree, Sana should be the first one in. You know what? We should probably do it in character. I agree. They're not going to give it a Sana, but they've offered a bluff. We might as well at least call it. Right. So we send Sana in.
01:01:51
Speaker
And you're... Maybe they have terms. Maybe they say, okay, if you want a collector, you got to do this. And then at least we have something we know. Because I assume they also don't initiate combat in the middle of the, you know, we walk

Deneth Enclave Visit

01:02:03
Speaker
in, they shoot us. I assume is not the theory either. I could be wrong, but I mean, there are laws. Well, sure. And they're demonstrably breaking several of them already. I mean,
01:02:20
Speaker
We are criminals, and they do have bounties out on us, so we might not like it, but I think right now they're actually inside the law. Well, right, whatever we do, I think that I will not go in if things go in incredibly wrong, and if I must, I could approach Satan and explain the situation.
01:02:50
Speaker
if things go incredibly wrong. Well, let's find out what happens when Sona goes in. Exactly, that's what I mean. Okay, so that's the plan. Sona, how much time do you want in there before we need to come and make sure you're all right? I, um...
01:03:16
Speaker
I don't know. I don't know what they're going to ask me. I don't know if there's somebody I have to go back and meet with in an office like like Raynard did. I don't know if they're going to tell me something at reception. I mean, I. I don't know. I they according to Raynard don't have a bounty out on me and I. What?
01:03:45
Speaker
I mean, if I'm not out in an hour, then probably something's gone wrong. And, um, yeah, I mean, that's, that, that would be kind of the marker that I would think I would surely be out of there in an hour, hopefully with my sister, but, um, son, I want to, I'm sorry. I need to disabuse you of the notion.
01:04:14
Speaker
that they're going to let her leave with you. They won't let her go without her being taken or me going in exchange if that's what they're willing to do. Okay. They have taken out bounties and essentially kidnapped your sister as bait to get to me. But why?
01:04:42
Speaker
literally because I made fun of their little brother and I think I kicked him in the butt. Wait, you did what? Oh yeah, it came to me the next week after that fight. I was doing a bit of security, it's obvious. Some young punk came in, harassing the employees, harassing the girls, harassing the other patrons, and I kicked him out.
01:05:11
Speaker
And he didn't take kindly to it, because he's one of those little turds who is unfamiliar with not getting what he wants. I was like, Vigo. Right, like that. Except for, I didn't know at the time, you know, Vigo's not gonna get a kick in the butt for me, because I know who his family is. I did not know who this fella's was. Turns out, it's a couple of, a couple of artistic bounty hunters.
01:05:39
Speaker
And so all that stuff they did, nearly killing Milo, bringing the old ram over to give me the what for, nearly screwing up our train job, was all because their brother was upset that I embarrassed him in front of some of the women at Savius. I'm sorry, was our train job not screwed up? Did they nearly screw up our train job? We literally could have gotten in and out of that place in 45 seconds if they weren't there.
01:06:07
Speaker
Right, that's what I'm saying. It wasn't nearly, it was all kinds of screwed up. Nearly kept us from completing the train job. Nearly killed some of us. I do not have fond memories. As I said, nearly kept us from completing the job. I'm gonna go in now. Oh, we're there. Hey guys, we're there. Yes, you all pulled up and docked.
01:06:33
Speaker
Natasha does all the piloting. I hate this, but I'm gonna go with it for, I mean, Sigil pipes up, you all specifically requested that I come for a reason that has yet to be made apparent, but do you want me to go in,
01:07:00
Speaker
With her, I also don't have a bounty. Absolutely. Did Milo pointing out regarding Sigils' Ghoulra by chance? Because like, you know, someone with a workforce with a mark of making carved into his face, walking into a house enclave.
01:07:21
Speaker
He started to and then got the door busted open and. OK, doesn't seem quite as important right now. OK, so based on that, Sana also climbs out Sana and Sigil climb out of the boat and walk across. There's a little courtyard with like a fountain and all that kind of stuff with like various buildings. There's the the house Kundarak building that you all are familiar with. And then there's also the Deneth Enclave. And so

Episode Conclusion

01:07:50
