Podcast Kickoff: Hosts and Setting
00:00:48
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, a D&D 5th edition actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I am your dungeon master, Eric.
00:00:55
Speaker
And I'm Philip. Randy. I'm Jeff. And welcome to another episode. Gentlemen, what happened last time? I feel like we just talked about this. So much. Yeah, a whole lot. And also not much. We. Yeah. Yeah.
Quest for Giant Weapons to Revive Dal Kor
00:01:16
Speaker
We learned that according to the flame, there are four giant weapons, weapons of giants required to resurrect the plane of Dal Kor. They're probably also giant weapons. Yeah. Yeah. I just, I, I like to think that maybe if there are weapons of giants, maybe they are scalable and we could use them if we need to. That would be nice. That was true of the sword. Exactly. And, and the something else, maybe I don't remember anyway.
00:01:47
Speaker
That's a week. That's that's the first thing that we learned. And then we learned. Well, then Jeff learned that the Orion House is in charge of teleportation. And we learned that Lady Omeran rides again. Yes, it appears again. Yeah, I did do that. And Beric feels that that is a trap.
00:02:16
Speaker
Eric feels that's highly suspicious. When we last left our heroes, they were about to teleport to Roet.
Chaos in Roet: Arrival and Protection of the King
00:02:24
Speaker
Indeed. That's true. And just so we're all on the same page, this is just the A-Team and Borrel going to Roet. Yes. Yes. Okay. And the others are going to beat us there eventually. Okay, so yeah, you all stepped through the teleportation circle.
00:02:44
Speaker
And you arrive on the other side, what seems to be instantaneously. And there's just chaos, just noise and a swarm of people shouting. I wonder why. In fact, it's kind of broken down into chaos, like the the House of Ryan stewards overseeing these teleportation circles have kind of lost control of the crowd and they're like you all are met with a rush of people trying to get to your circle.
00:03:18
Speaker
Like they're trying to teleport out or they're trying to get to us. They're trying to get to the circle you're in. It doesn't seem that anybody's trying to tackle you.
00:03:28
Speaker
So there's a rush of people running toward us. The king is obviously himself. Yes. Yeah. Does this have an effect on the rushing crowd? Yeah. How was their perception check? We're speaking the first half second of you all appearing. So I was just going to let you read, like, decide how you would react to that initial image and then we'll. Okay. Well, I think the way the barrack reacts to the initial image in his heightened emotional state is that he summons curse bringer into his hands and puts himself between the king and the crowd.
00:03:56
Speaker
Seeing that Dex flips out his ribbon weave and gets to the other side. Yeah, plainer justices in Booyah's hand. So everybody sees the weapons come flying out and kind of step back and you see people putting arms in front of loved ones and things like that. Berwick, you feel a strong hand on your shoulder as it kind of pushes you out of the way as Borenel steps in front of you all.
00:04:27
Speaker
Really citizens, I, I assure you that there is no reason for panic and there's a brief pause of everybody kind of staring. And then the crowd just erupts again. Like they're not rushing towards you, but now people are starting to run away from you. Uh, but yeah, people are still going nuts. Uh, Borneo's efforts to quell the crowd did not succeed, but at least they're going away. Now you have a clear path. Now we can move. Yeah.
00:04:57
Speaker
Well, we asked Vore to bring Rook in and three and any other.
Character Level-Ups and New Abilities
00:05:07
Speaker
VIPs here. Yes. So we should not wander. Um, thanks to, um, Oh yeah. We, before we get much further into the episode, um, we leveled up. So, um, the only reason I bring up that we should share our new abilities is because Jess is about to become very pertinent in pretty much everything in this campaign. So that's fair. Um, so why don't we save Jess for last? Philip, you want to go first? Uh, sure. Um, Barrick took another level of Kinsay.
00:05:38
Speaker
Uh, so he got another key point and a new Kinsay maneuver. Um, if he wants to blow all of his key points at once, he can now cast big B's hand at fifth level. I want to do it. I will. It's, you know, um, we've been playing pretty heavily into the Kinsay is a, is a Jedi thing. And so it seemed reasonable to obtain force push. Um,
00:06:05
Speaker
And then, uh, because of that, the other thing you get at fifth levels, you can say is extra attack. So my thirsting blade invocation became irrelevant. So I swapped that out. So I'm no longer getting extra attack from two sources. And then Drake here, uh, leveled up in his warlock, uh, and got his sixth level, uh, packed ability, which has undergone some adjustment as I
00:06:35
Speaker
Got some feedback on on it from from people who'd read it. And so now this isn't particularly relevant because Rick here could already already do this, but I didn't specifically build the pact to assume things about who was going to be using it. Drake here can now see through magical darkness. And then also when trick here is in darkness. He is invisible to creatures that rely on on sight to see him.
00:07:05
Speaker
So something can sense in with trimmer sense or blind sense or something like that. It's still it's still there, but. Yeah, so pattern that off of a. The number pack is on our DM spellbook, by the way, if you want access to that, it's from via our Patreon and that ability was patterned off of an ability from the gloom stalker ranger. So.
00:07:30
Speaker
Randy, what can Booyah do? Well, not nearly as cool as that. Booyah just took a bump to his wisdom, uh, make him a little bit better cleric. Hopefully a lot of that depends on Randy. Did you level up cleric or ranger? Cleric. Okay. Yeah. Leveled up cleric, took a bump to his wisdom and added blindness, deafness, and took
00:08:01
Speaker
You know, I don't know why I didn't already have this, but I took gentle repose. Okay. Yeah. Makes sense. Yeah. I kind of like to get him, you know, more clerical, more healing things to, or keeping things from rotting.
00:08:19
Speaker
You know, for next time, somebody dies. Jeff. Okay. So Dex is now a level 11, uh, to level 12. Pardon me. Wait 11.
00:08:33
Speaker
We are 12. Yeah. Right. We're total 12, but I've got one of barbarians. So yeah, he's a level 11 road. And at that level, you get what is called reliable talent. What reliable talent does for decks is anything I have proficiency in. So acrobatics, sleight of hand, stealth, investigation, perception, intimidation, and deception. I can, if I roll a nine or under, I just count it as a 10.
00:08:57
Speaker
So like, I see everything. And nothing sees you. My stealth still isn't that high. Because just for some reason, all the stuff I keep finding or taking gives me better perception and investigation. My investigation modifier, and perception modifier is 16. Oh, wow. Yeah. So I will never get below a 26. My passive perception is 21.
00:09:26
Speaker
I see that was ridiculous. Every that's I mean, I was going to say that's all I've got, which isn't true. But. And in regards to Booyah, easy there, plus 20 damage modifier. Oh, only if he hits with sniping and it's a favored enemy. Oh, and I do get another D6. OK, sneak attack, more sneak attack. OK, so having said all that, just just for fun, why don't you all give me a perception check?
Rookin and Vore: Front Desk Encounter
00:10:00
Speaker
26. You roll one. I rolled a Yay. Oh, my 23 for Barrick. And I guess structure does not need to make one. OK. Yeah, fair enough. So 23 for Barrick, 26 for decks. I fell on his butt.
00:10:23
Speaker
So you all, um, so you all pretty easily spot, um, Rookin and voor near the front door of, uh, of the house, orient enclave, uh, attempting to part the crowd so that they can get up to the front desk.
00:10:45
Speaker
I don't recognize anybody. Do I recognize three? Um, you do not see three. Okay. So I don't recognize them. Oh wait, no, I have met Rookin. Yeah. Of course. Okay. Way back in the early days. I believe I can't see because there's too many big people in front of him. That's true. Booyah's just ready to start shooting his crossbow. Weapons got drawn. So Booyah's ready to pop off. He's looking for a stray kid. Not really. Jeebs.
00:11:16
Speaker
Something his size. A small goat, you mean. Yeah, that's what I said. I actually, I did say, because you said they were rushing at us in a circle, right? Well, you're standing in a circle in one of the alcoves and they're all rushing in the same direction. Well, no, they're just trying to get to all the circles. So it's a big crowd. Well, I'm just saying, I said we surrounded Boranal, like whatever Barak was facing, I face another direction. So which one of us sees this? No, you're up against a wall. Okay. So we both see it.
00:11:45
Speaker
I don't think Dex says anything because Dex knows Barak knows better and Boranell is here. I was gonna say Barak is probably going to yield the floor to Boranell. Okay. So, um, Boranell, um,
00:12:03
Speaker
also spots Rookin and starts to part the crowd and make his way over, creating a sizable enough wake for you all to follow. Which I do. As well. Yes.
00:12:22
Speaker
Once you all get close enough, Vore sees Boranell and just turns sheet white and drops to one knee. And Rookin kind of regards him and you see a slight eye roll as he says, hello, my king. Hello, Rookin. From now on, I'm gonna let my companion speak for me so I'm not talking to myself the whole time.
00:12:55
Speaker
How many people are with them? Right now, you can just see Vore and Rookin. But it's pretty chaotic. There may be other members of their entourage that have been separated in the crowd or something. So can we go somewhere that's not here to speak? I mean. Sound good, Booyah.
00:13:25
Speaker
I mean, yeah, we're, let's, I've never been here. Let's go to my office.
False King Inquiry and Boranell's Journey
00:13:29
Speaker
Does the rest of the government know the King's back? Um, I've been, uh, sending the message, uh, around to my fellow parliament members and core has been made aware. And, um, yes, let's, let's go speak in my office. Three is off attending to other matters. What's that mean?
00:13:55
Speaker
Well, there are members of the Royal family that need to be investigated to see if they knew that the King was the false King. There is just a lot to deal with that three is uniquely equipped as a paladin to deal with. Let us go speak in not a large crowd of people. Come with me. And Rookan turns and begins walking. Beric looks to Bora now.
00:14:23
Speaker
because Rookin just told Borenell what to do. I was about to say, I was, I say, I say, why don't we speak in the king's office? You gonna let him talk to you like that? Oh, he does it all the time. So it's not that special. He's, considers, considers himself a very important man. Yeah, he's a real chump, isn't he? Well, he's good at what he does. Let's, let's go. So Borenell begins to follow.
00:14:53
Speaker
OK, Jeff, we've. So. While walking, Rookan begins to ask about Borneo's journey and how. How this has all been allowed to happen, essentially, the the false king, the. And Eric is quiet for a while, but eventually has enough and says. It.
00:15:24
Speaker
It would seem like the person who's not noticed an imposter on the throne would be the one to, to answer the, how has this been allowed to happen? Um, with that, Rookan stops and turns on his heel and looks to you, Berwick and says, let me ask you this, Berwick, put yourself in my position. I'm prime minister of the parliament in a.
00:15:52
Speaker
A country that still gives a great deal of power in regard to the monarch. The monarch begins acting strange. Some might even say out of character. What happens to somebody who claims that they are a false king? Especially when that king is acting erratically and rashly. You may not have much concern for your head staying on your shoulders, but I do. Are you insinuating that you assumed he might be a false king?
00:16:20
Speaker
I have never had much love for the monarchy, for exactly the reason of what's been happening for the past few months. But regardless of my inclinations and what I might have thought, I would not have ever spoken them to anybody, nor would anyone have spoken them to anybody, except in hushed rooms.
00:16:44
Speaker
which I am not afforded that luxury. Did I assume a false King? And he looks at Borenell Squarely and says, no, I did not, but I didn't know that the King was acting rashly. And then he turns on his heel and continues walking.
00:17:06
Speaker
Once again, kind of, um, Boranell is relaying his journey. Um, but it's, it's very clear, Boranell frequently looks to you all to fill in the gaps if you want of how, how he got from Stormreach to here. Um,
00:17:30
Speaker
And at one point, Rookin kind of regards the rest of you and says, and none of you ever thought to bring the King here under darkness, under secret. You report to you. Right. And also, uh, you report to your nation. I report to my King. You've been holding the true King and hiding. Well, listen, this isn't my nation and this isn't my King. This is my friend, I guess now, Borenel. And it didn't seem like that's how he wanted it to go down.
00:17:59
Speaker
We don't know who trust. We certainly don't trust the country that put a bounty on our heads. Well, once again, that was not the country that was the person that we thought was the king, right? But the country would have fulfilled the act. And had you all not sat on this information the way that you did, lives could have been saved. But yeah, you'd have believed us. Why would I not have if you brought me evidence? I read your statement in the paper, in your paper.
00:18:29
Speaker
I do not own a paper. Well, it may be in your brother's name, but I read your statement. You seem pretty happy to take it to take to gain political advantage from the situation. So no, didn't think to contact you. Also, I don't report to you. I obey my King. And you're really speaking down to me about trying to seize power away from a false King.
00:19:00
Speaker
I'm not speaking down to you. I'm, I'm speaking to appear to whom I don't report. Um, Rukin just kind of smirks as he throws open a door to the office of parliament. And, uh, after a few short steps enters his office and gestures for you all to enter.
00:19:33
Speaker
We wait to see if Borenel goes in. Borenel looks, uh, looks at Barrick and just kind of smirks and shrugs and walks into the office. As I before going in, okay. Before going in, Barrick reaches up, touches his sending stone on says crossed.
Communicating with Crast: Strategic Updates
00:19:54
Speaker
Yeah. We in the King or in the prime minister's office. If anyone needs him. Okay.
00:20:01
Speaker
You might tell three when you have the opportunity. Oh, I'm with three. So I'll let them know. Thank you. And as as we're walking in, Dex leans over to Berwick and says, not trying to be particularly quiet. This is an elected position. This guy won.
00:20:24
Speaker
So, Rookin goes and sits behind his desk and gestures for you all to sit. There's only four chairs. I'll stand. The deck stands. Booyah stands. I mean, is there anything laying around? Because he's going to go find something to fiddle with. I mean, there's paintings on the wall, small plants, tables. I mean, it's Rubik's Cube. It's a well-appointed office. OK. Well, he's got one of those putting greens.
00:20:58
Speaker
Boranell sits. Vore sits. The rest of you stand? Yeah, I was looking at stuff. Well, Rookan sits. Rookan sits in the chair behind his desk. There are four more chairs available. Oh, well, if Booyah is going to waddle around, then the rest of us can all sit then, yeah. Okay, Barak waits for Boranell to sit and then he sits. Right.
00:21:24
Speaker
So, um, I assume that the timing of your arrival is no coincidence that you all had something to do with the fall of the false King. No, but we were, we were made aware of it. Is it when it happened? Any of your associates involved? I've already expressed my view on a reporting to you and associate. I mean, fine. Then you can go. What a free new.
00:21:51
Speaker
If you all are not going to be helpful in rectifying the situation, then you can leave. We have rectified the situation. Situation is rectified. We brought the king. Feels helpful. Three already knew. Yeah, three was aware. Good. He's met with the king before. He'll corroborate what we have. He'll corroborate this if for some reason you still have doubts.
00:22:12
Speaker
I never claimed to have doubts. In fact, I told you quite the opposite. I have thought that there was something going on with the King. Now there's an explanation. Now it's time to pick up the pieces of what's left of Breeland. Try to negotiate a diplomatic peace in what has been going on and move forward as a nation. I don't understand why it's important for you to know who killed a random person who's not even a member of this country. Just some guy died today. That's all.
00:22:43
Speaker
Okay. Diplomatic negotiations with whom? Um, we have been, uh, well, we, um, there have been troops lining up along the on Darien border. Um, relations with Carnath are all but severed. Um, and we have officially invaded Drowam. And yeah, the King's relations with Carnath are severed, but the King's sister is still here.
00:23:11
Speaker
Yes. Now wait, uh, invaded Joanne under whose authority? The King. Okay. I just want to make sure fake King or you, because that's a dumb thing to do. Yes. All right. Cool. It's a damaging, dumb thing to do. Well, I'm just saying. And it was up in the air as to who we are set up to allow one person to make those decisions. Well, the King's here. He can order the army's back.
00:23:40
Speaker
Do you think honestly that will make a difference in terms of the relations, Berwick? I don't recall our relations withdrawal and being especially strong as to Onder and Karnath. I think Onder and Karnath would be very interested to know what's happened here and
00:23:58
Speaker
be warned. Yeah, it feels like maybe some sort of public relations blitzes in order. Uh, we can prevent this from happening in other countries and there would be some sort of maybe a gratefulness. In addition, the other monarchs will want to know that this is the, the same power that replaced our King is the power that has taken over storm reach. So something will need to be dealt with that will need to be dealt with soon. Boy, I really liked this painting.
00:24:29
Speaker
Oh yeah, have you met? Yeah, I met Booyah. It's Booyah. Hello, Booyah.
Diplomacy and Chaos: Post-False King Era
00:24:34
Speaker
Hello. It's a landscape of a small village outside of Roab, is what you're looking at. And it's a beautiful sunset, portrayed. It's actually a window. But they write, we need stop this from happening bad things.
00:24:55
Speaker
Well, we can inform our diplomats of the situation and see if they can inform the other monarchs of what's been going on. Uh, if there will hold an audience. I mean, can't hate it to tell her brother would need trust her. We could fix Karnath real quick. Like, I mean, her brother might trust her, but she's been living here for so long that loyalty has become questioned.
00:25:26
Speaker
But yeah, I think other country may find out pretty quick anyway. I mean, don't country always have spy everywhere. That's very true. Uh, the print's still incarnate. Yes.
00:25:39
Speaker
They refused to give up the prince as long as we held Hadith and I felt it odd, but now no longer do, that Bornell felt little need to negotiate with Carnath in the return of the prince. She choose to stay her or are we holding her? She has no desire to return to Carnath and she also has been spending less and less time in court.
00:26:05
Speaker
The other Boinelle did not seem that concerned about it, so she has been allowed to mostly run wild. So, Boinelle, what do you intend to do? And Boinelle kind of looks to you all in shrugs and a lie. I thought I would.
00:26:34
Speaker
go back to ruling, just pick up where I left off, explain the situation to everybody as my companions have told you and resume as before.
00:26:53
Speaker
And I mean, I humbly suggest fix what got broken, not maybe pick up where left off, but fix what got broken. And you know, we can help with that a bit.
00:27:09
Speaker
well that's well and good we are currently we have apprehended the individual involved with the murdering of the false king we are dealing with rioting in the city near where the execution took place the swords of liberty have risen up and
00:27:36
Speaker
it's it's chaos so if you all are willing to stick around to try and mitigate any further damage now when you say you apprehended the guy killed the false king is that like so you know where to find him to give him his medal and his reward money for killing a false king what's he doing in jail well we have a lot of questions as i assume you can understand
00:28:03
Speaker
about who he was, how he knew, what he knows. Booyah think he don't know much. Why is that Booyah? Booyah think he don't know much. Well, our inquisitors will find out exactly what he knows. What do you mean inquisitor? Are they going to hurt person? They're going to inquire. Well, they need to inquire nicely.
00:28:35
Speaker
Right, King? Is that really what we call them? Inquisitor, I know. It was a request of any gestures to Boranell, your predecessor. Like, Inquisitor does have a bad connotation, but so did Stormtrooper before Star Wars, so... We're taking it back. You all have been going... Did Star Wars really give it a good connotation?
00:29:04
Speaker
A fun connotation, I guess. I guarantee you, for most of the population, if you say Stormtrooper, that's the first one they think of. Oh, that's true. You all have been gone for some time. You have been out of breath, and there is a new branch. We're not really that long. Well, long enough to where there is a new branch of the Citadel that is formed called the King's Eye. That's... I'm sorry. King Bornell, did you start the King's Eye?
00:29:33
Speaker
No. All right. Doesn't seem like they're particularly official. Yes. Maybe in fact, they ought to be rounded up. Rounded up for what? Inquisiting. I mean, or frankly, just someone with the ability to cast true sight, taking a look at them. Yeah. Um, that's a solid. We know for example, that the,
00:30:03
Speaker
Rear-driven ambassador here was a changeling, and I would imagine that there are, if this is a new branch created, but let me ask this, do you know the members of this branch, mostly pulled from other branches or brought in new?
00:30:21
Speaker
Uh, some were pulled from other branches. Others were just young, um, young individuals up and coming through at ranks that. Yeah, I would take a hard look at those. Most of them were just young, androgynous, nonspecifically shaped humanoids. Yep. Actually, uh, I guess there were some keep track of who they were all the time. There is something I got to get out of the way. I feel like it's going to become relevant. And if we got true siders walking around, it's going to come out anyway.
00:30:51
Speaker
I am in fact also a changeling, but I am also with the good guys. I kind of said goodbye to the troubling aspects of my heritage, and specifically a thing called the inspired. We can talk about that another day. So don't go freaking out when you eventually find that out about old decks.
00:31:19
Speaker
Very well. All right. I mean, um, no, we can, we can invent. Wasn't your name Lyle? Oh, I don't even look like Lyle though. That's true. That's true. Um, so
00:31:37
Speaker
Um, yes, I, we can speak to core about the king's eye. Um, but as it stands right now, they are currently with the, uh, the suspect involved in killing the false king. And Barrett goes on the sending son again, uh, crass. Yeah. Uh, three needs to, if at all possible, get the arrested suspect out of the custody of whatever the king's eye is.
00:32:07
Speaker
Post taste. What's the king's eye? Ask three. He can probably explain it while you go. But I suspect someone. Do you know who's been arrested, Christ? Because I don't know somebody's been for the killing of the king. I have a really good guess as to who's been arrested. Yeah. Is it is it anyone who actually had anything to do with it? Not even a little bit. They were actually they were helpful, but unknowingly.
00:32:37
Speaker
That person's probably in a great deal of trouble, possibly in a great deal of pain. And they should really, they probably don't deserve that. They did directly administer the murder weapon to the King, but they weren't really involved. And if Krast can use True Sight, while he goes and picks this up, he might find some more agents of the inspired
00:33:05
Speaker
Who could be apprehended or killed at your discretion? Oh Okay, I will I will relay all of that to three. Yes. Hey three, what do you know about the King and then cuts off?
Parliamentary Vote of No Confidence: Tension Rises
00:33:31
Speaker
We will address the political implications of everything that's happened. In the morning, probably, we had a session of parliament that was going to be meeting tomorrow morning. People are traveling back to ROAT right now, so it would be impossible to get everyone together today. But this is awkward.
00:34:02
Speaker
There is a vote happening at Parliament tomorrow. Essentially a vote of no confidence in the monarchy.
00:34:16
Speaker
Well, I mean, and again, I'm not from here. I don't really know how these sorts of things work, but it feels like the prime minister could probably put a stop to that vote due to extenuating circumstances and new uncovered details. See, that's the wonderful thing about parliament, though, is that one person can't just step in and stop everything on a whim. Not the way that we do it here. This is a very different parliament than all parliaments.
00:34:43
Speaker
It's true. All parliaments everywhere. The prime minister gets to decide what votes are held. All right. Well. Well, they have parliament vote. They voted about Ron King anyway. True King now here. I mean, I assume it wasn't a vote, no confidence on King Borenel, but rather the monarchy. Ah.
00:35:11
Speaker
Like the concept of monarchy? Well, this is not just convenient for you. I don't know what's happened to you to make you such a cynic, but I assure you that what I'm doing is how long you got for the benefit of Breeland. I feel like that should be a
00:35:40
Speaker
a vote of the whole electorate. Oh, the electorate votes us to represent them. Right, but that should be a vote of the whole electorate. That should be a national ballot. How would you conduct that? That's crazy talk, right? That's crazy talk, Dex. We don't do national ballots here. What are you talking about? That's some sort of, that's some sort of re-adrin. National ballot anyway. What do you talk about? You have to take weeks to accomplish. All right, guys, sit down.
00:36:10
Speaker
I'm going to teach you about some of the unintended downsides of what they like to call representative democracy. I don't know about this ballot. We all said it's a ballot one time dancing very nice. I don't understand. Jeff just quit the podcast, everybody. This is the creakiest chair that's ever existed.
00:36:41
Speaker
Randy, that made me really happy. It was very good. Listen, well here, okay.
00:36:54
Speaker
I like the idea that ballet is an art form that was just generated solely by the goblins, performed by goblins in the jungle. Just beautiful goblin bellies.
00:37:12
Speaker
Like, like out there to heck made a kweech. The goblins created ballad. What does what do ballad have to do with king? I'm good. All right.
00:37:31
Speaker
So, um, boy and Ellie will obviously be welcome to attend and explain the situation. Um, I cannot. I mean, the fact that you would seriously go forward with a vote about the monarchy after you just found out that you've been living with a fake King for a while and he's dead and the real King just came back and you would still have that vote. That's ridiculous. What's to keep this from happening again?
00:37:57
Speaker
We live in a world with people who can assume the form of other people. So having a nation built around the idea of one person deciding everything. It's almost as though you would be- One person doesn't decide everything. There's a parliament. You vote on laws. Yes. And we are voting on a law to restrict the ability of the king to take us to war, to invade other countries. Because he said so.
00:38:28
Speaker
That's a very different thing from a vote of no confidence. Yeah. Like I'm, I'm for that one. That one sounds fine. Like there should be some sort of, maybe he has a hundred days of executive action, but then three fifths of congress parliament has to approve it. I don't know. I'm just spit balling, but, uh, that's way different than a vote of no confidence in the monarchy. Which one are you having tomorrow? We're having a vote of no confidence on the monarchy. Okay. So don't dress it up the way you did. Cause that one sounded fine.
00:39:00
Speaker
I mean, I'm not crazy, right? Those are very different things. That's my view. Bordeaux, you're with me, right? Well, I mean... Fightings. Okay. You're biased. I get it. Honestly, the droam thing I was just waiting to do anyway, so, you know. Thanks for making our case for us. They killed my wife. And he slams his fist down on Rekin's tape. I didn't know that. I knew she was dead. I didn't know how.
00:39:29
Speaker
I thought it was a car accident. It's very unsubstantiated whether or not they killed his wife. That's just what Bornell thinks. Gotcha. Okay.
King's Eye Intrusion and Intelligence Mission
00:39:38
Speaker
While Parliament gathers, it's probably best the King get out and reassure the people of his presence. You all hear a knock on the door. I should probably move on. But for a second, I guess we should see here. Barak stands up, turns to face the door with Chris Bringer in his hand.
00:39:57
Speaker
Booyah answers the door. You want Booyah open door? Yes, that's fine, Booyah. I love the idea of us just being like, yeah, come in. Rook is like, this is my office. We really don't care. Booyah opens the door. You see two individuals step in through the door wearing like it's
00:40:24
Speaker
It's very, very light leather, like almost from a white dragon, though not that like vibrant white, but very light posers leather armor with blue tabards and on the tabard is a white eye with a crown atop it. Do I recognize this either? Do I recognize either of these people? You do not. Do I notice anything about them that tips me off that we might want to
00:40:55
Speaker
learn more about them. Specifically, are there any changes? Perception and insight checks. Or perception or insight checks. But they're not allowed to step into the room because my sword point is there. Okay. Unless they have elected to impale themselves. Okay. They have not stepped into the room yet. 20. 27. What kind of roll am I making here? Perception or insight. What was your perception?
00:41:25
Speaker
perception perception yeah wait yeah perception that's the higher one so of course you got a natural 20 on the table though so nice 16 insight 16 okay so what would you like to do with your 20
00:41:52
Speaker
Well, I'm assuming that these guys are part of the Royal eye with the eye on their chest, um, that they're going to be amenable to whatever is said or told to them. I mean, you can't hijack control of my NPCs. We need more definition. They're not here to cause trouble.
00:42:19
Speaker
I mean, I don't know what else to use with the two guys walking in the door. I will let you go. They are not here to cause trouble. Well, that's no good. You all might cause trouble, but they are not here to cause trouble. I mean, any suggestions? What if one of them is a change that they do something to give it away to that? Because I did just roll a 26 perception too. So those working in concert might work out. Okay. If one of them is not.
00:42:48
Speaker
If one of them is like a changeling, then it will give it away. They'll give it away. Okay. Um, Dex will be able to figure it out. Okay. Um,
00:43:01
Speaker
Also, with your 20 perception, you see shadows from windows to where you can tell that there are other individuals in the hallway standing there. It's just that these two are the only ones that you can see.
00:43:20
Speaker
Like how many shadows can I tell? You're able to tell that there are three shadows that are it doesn't seem that they're hiding. They're just kind of it's it's a doorway like they're not going to crowd around. And I see this as well. I got a 26. Yeah. But he puts his hand behind his back and just shows a five.
00:43:43
Speaker
Okay. Um. Berwick with your insight check. Um you're able to tell that these individuals are not. They're not antagonistic, but they they're very much. On a mission like they're they're very focused and they're soldiers like they're they're here to get in get what they need and get out. Okay, and they're not really in the mood to talk so. Um.
00:44:14
Speaker
One of them goes, Oh, uh, can I help you? Can we help you? We're here on an official business and that business is. Okay. Uh, prime minister Rookin, may we speak to you? Nope. Okay. Um, root. Rookin is not the highest ranking person in this room right now.
00:44:44
Speaker
So you might address your questions to the King. Oh, we've, we've heard about what's going on. The eyes have seen it. Oh yeah. What, what did, what did you see? What did you, that's a creepy thing to see. Yeah. That was weird. I've seen it. That was weird.
00:45:02
Speaker
Is that like on your, is that like a solid? It's a solid motto. Um, we, we are actually here to speak to the King. So we are here to collect him. Well, that's not happening. Okay. And, um, well, um, my Lord, would you like to go with these gentlemen?
00:45:34
Speaker
I mean, you say not a moment, not a moment. They're going to continue to talk amongst themselves and say, oh, they can talk amongst themselves. That's fine. I'm asking boring question. It's it's what we thought. And we need initiative. OK. Barrick will be happy to do some self therapy on these guys. Oh, rolling initiative. It's been a while. Been a while. How do we do that?
00:46:05
Speaker
You pick up, you see the one with the most sides, Randy. You take the 20 and you roll it and then you add 14 to it. Oh, I need to change this on my paper. You know, it is kind of OK that we didn't get in a fight when we were on the side quest, because I don't know what I'd do if I didn't get to go first. Sit there and watching battle.
00:46:30
Speaker
How big is this room and how big is the hallway outside of it? The room is about, I would say, 20 by 20. The hallway is 10 feet across outside. Until Barak gets some professional help, I think this is how he's gonna deal with anyone that he perceives as being in the slightest bit condescending to him or his friends. That feels healthy. I think that's the manifestation of Barak's trauma right now.
00:47:03
Speaker
You know, it might be better to turn into the bottle. Yeah. Yeah. Although probably not less likely to cause fights.
00:47:32
Speaker
I don't use it, they just came with the set. It'd be too much of a stretch to say I've had my claw gloves in my belt the whole time for some close quarters combat, wouldn't it? They're probably still on the boat, probably. I haven't played with those in a while.
00:48:02
Speaker
Can we please get in a bar brawl after I tell you about my claw gloves? Whenever you want to tell Dex about your secret lycanthrope training. I didn't do training. I did one level and then we went like we haven't been to a town since then where we've had a chance to rest that I could go back and do it again. I met with him and he gave me some gloves that are pretty badass. That's the extent of my lycanthrope training.
00:48:28
Speaker
No, he trained you to a tune with nature, and... Oh yeah, if we're outside, I can... I get advantage on something. I don't even write it down. Perception! I don't need it! It's the most useless... Although, I guess... Because we made it a barbarian subclass, right? I think it's... No, we made it a fighter subclass. So, some stuff is... So am I fighter one? Rogue 11 fighter one? Or Rogue 11 barbarian one? Fighter one. Fighter one. You've been using fighter things. Okay. I have.
00:48:57
Speaker
You at least once used second wind. Yeah. Cause remember you changed that. No, you, you are, you're right. You've taken one level of barbarian and one level of fighter. I thought he replaced the level of fighter with. Cause I took a level of barbarian when I was a lycanthrope and you said, okay, since you switched it to a fighter subclass, I could switch it to a fighter level. So I need to change that cause I have a barbarian one. Dex, what's your initiative? 27. Eric. Uh, 21.
00:49:28
Speaker
Booyah, 21. What's your Dex modifier? Dex modifier is five. Eric, what's your Dex modifier? Uh, three. Okay.
00:50:05
Speaker
And apologies while I have a marker down, I need to run to the bathroom.
00:50:23
Speaker
Hey, Philip. Hey, Randy. Or Jeff, either one. Um, if I make, uh, since I, you know, I have two attacks, can one of those be a spell, a melee touch attack? Nope. That's what I was afraid of.
00:50:39
Speaker
Wait, you can't, if you have two full attacks? So the way extra attack works is when you take the attack action, you attack twice. So it's not that you have two, two actions with which to attack. It's one action. So a spell that also takes one action can't be done in conjunction with that. But you can.
00:51:04
Speaker
If you cast a spell as an action, you can cast another as a bonus as long as it's a cantrip. As long as it's a cantrip. Yeah. Or as long as long as one of them is a cantrip. Okay, sure. So if you have a bonus action cantrip, yes, you could attack and cast a cantrip or a bonus action spell of any kind for that matter. Okay. So the eyes go first.
00:51:34
Speaker
Dang. Just kidding. Dex, you're up. Dang. What I think I want to do is I think I'm going to keep the blade sheathed and use the ribbon weaves as a staff, and I would like to just come right over the top and crack one of them on the head. Okay. 22. That's a hit. Okay. So that's going to be...
00:52:11
Speaker
28 points of damage, and then I'm going to use my, let's see, can I use my bonus action to disengage with that guy and then use my movement to get out into the hallway? Or is that too much? Because if you go in between them. Yeah, yeah, you don't have a way to get through there. That's fine. Then in that case, I will use my- You said 28 points of damage? Yeah, 28 points of damage.
00:52:45
Speaker
I think that's it. Okay. Um, so now it is Booyah's turn. Uh, Booyah reaches out in an attempt to touch the guy in front of him. Okay. So that's not a one, is it? That's a seven. That's a seven. Okay. Um, 15. 15. That's a miss. So you reach out to touch him and he swatched your hand away.
00:53:09
Speaker
Okay. And then a bonus action to disengage and get behind a chair. Um, Barrick drawing planar justice as he gets behind there. Hmm.
00:53:47
Speaker
Uh, I would like this gentleman in front of me to make a wisdom saving throw, please. 12. Okay. Uh, so Barrett cast hold person, paralyzing him and says now, and loud enough for everyone to hear in the hall.
00:54:18
Speaker
Now I have the king in here, and if you all want to get violent or try to take him out of this room by force, that's fine. I promise you, nothing about any of you will give me and my companions trouble. But I don't have a lot of interest in you all being dead right now. Well, to be honest, I have a little bit of interest.
00:54:47
Speaker
Now, if you'd like to ask politely if the King would like to come with you, then that's an entirely different matter. But if you come in here to try to collect the King, as you see, fewer of you will go home than came. Yeah. Sounds pretty intimidating to me. Go ahead and give me an intimidation roll.
00:55:20
Speaker
Natural 20 total 29. Wow. I think it worked. Um, so what would you like to do with your 20? Hmm. Well, I'm presuming that what I just said worked. So making them all scared of me is not interesting.
00:55:51
Speaker
I'm open to suggestions here. Um, maybe they fully explain what their intent is other than just to take the King with them. They're so intimidated. They spill their guts. Well, this doesn't have to relate to what you're doing. Like, yeah, no, I know. I'm trying to think of other things that would have anything that would, it would give us a particularly beneficial thing here in a month. Um,
00:56:22
Speaker
I assume three out ranks them, right? I don't know if three has like a position in the hierarchy or if three is sort of outside of it. I'm not sure. Let me find out who sent them to collect the King. The commander of all of the King's eye. Okay. I have, I have a thing. Okay. Um, I would like, well, no, I don't want to use it for that.
00:56:55
Speaker
I always get these at weird moments. Yeah, I'll go with Randy here. These gentlemen are going to be very forthcoming to us. Okay.
00:57:10
Speaker
So the one that you have under the. I'm just I'm just leaning into the Jedi thing. This is Beric holds out his hand and this guy can't move. This is this is the Kylo Ren thing. Can somebody speak when they are under the. Yes, they can. It's kind of halting, but you can speak when you're near. Very. Well. We will stand down.
00:57:40
Speaker
And you see the other one look at him and just like seeing him in this brace state and just holds his hands up. That three more in hallway.
00:57:55
Speaker
they kind of shuffle, uh, interview. You see one that, uh, appears to be the, the commander, like just, yes, some, uh, designations on his tabard. Um, and you see one that, um, isn't wearing any leather armor. It's just cloth. Um, so let's have your commander step into the room. The rest of you wait here in the hallway.
00:58:26
Speaker
where we can see you. So, uh, the one that looks like a commander steps in, he is, uh, wearing the same armor and tabard that the other ones are wearing. Um, he has a, um, a fur cloak and a very nice hat on as well. Just a real good hat has his crossbow trained on the three in the hallway. All right. And perhaps you'd like to explain what's going on here.
00:58:57
Speaker
Well, we are the intelligence arm of the Citadel. Who's I? Did you just say the name out loud for me again? The King's Eye. And the King's Eye is part of who's Citadel? The King's Citadel. And the King is where? We believe he may be here, but we just found out that the person sitting on the throne for the past couple of months wasn't the actual King. So your thought was to arrest the King?
00:59:28
Speaker
Are you done? Okay. Let me know when you're done interrupting me and I'll speak. How long have you been a part of the Citadel? 10 years. All right. So you have worked under the real Borodil. I presume. I promise. Well, considering I've never met you, that doesn't mean much to me now. I've never met you. You don't mean much to me either, but that's not the point here.
00:59:57
Speaker
I regret to inform you that your new branch, well, were you, I'm assuming, were you, were you a dark lantern before you were in the eyes? Yes. Yeah. Um, I regret to inform you that your new branch was created by the fake board. So you guys don't really even exist.
01:00:20
Speaker
Anybody who joined up after the eye had been created doesn't really even have authority. Now I'll respect you as having been a dark lantern for so long. I have several people I've worked with that were dark lanterns, great guys, like them a lot. But we still can't let you just take the king right now. You speak of authority, who are you? You want Booyah shoot one right now so we not play around?
01:00:49
Speaker
Whoa. Booyah has joined Barrett. Booyah, I know. I don't, I don't think that's necessary. Booyah might talk smack, but you know, it's kind of a bluff. You know, I don't know. Hey, uh, uh, King Boredell. I know this is a weird time, but apparently we've gotten into the minutia of authority. Uh, can I get like a title or something? Just to, just to be able to say now you have to listen to me cause I'm tired of this crap. Uh, what do you got for me?
01:01:18
Speaker
This is, I mean. Go ahead, if Bork would not interrupt Bork, no. Or can you just look at this guy and say, listen to him? That'll be fine too. I mean, it sounds like he's not gonna listen to me, but you are hereby Lord of, hey, you're from Miss March, Miss March, you're Lord of Miss March. And you see Rookin's face just turning red. And I turned to look at Rookin
01:01:47
Speaker
And I just smiled real big. How about it? I mean, of course, that's not gonna stand because I'm not a real shit, is it? But for right now, it's fun.
01:02:04
Speaker
the commander of the eyes just kind of looks at the exchange and says, that's all well and good. But I still, I have a job to do. And the job I've been given is to debrief and cooperate the story of this version of the king. Listen, I apologize. But we're not against things getting sorted out. All right. But
01:02:33
Speaker
We can't, like right now, the only people I trust are the four people I walked in here with, and I know this is the real king, and I don't know you, and I don't trust you. You could be the guy that's been in the dark lanterns for 10 years. You could be another imposter.
01:02:55
Speaker
We're not, we can't just let you take the King. If he wants to go with you, we will go with him with you. And a big, big, happy, fun group of us can all go together while you debrief in question. Your name, sir. My name is Mert. Mert. And you were a dark lantern before this. What were you before that? I was a sword. Before that, I was a soldier. Where?
01:03:26
Speaker
I was stationed in Rowat during the war protecting the Capitol. All right. My Lord King, would it please you to grant this man an interview in your office?
01:03:44
Speaker
Listen, I, I appreciate where you all are coming from, but we have, uh, contingencies built in to our headquarters where we speak to people, interview people and seek the truth. So going to.
01:04:06
Speaker
King Boranell's office to sit with him is not going to do anything to put the minds at ease that I report to. And who do you report to? That is another interesting question. Well, ultimately, obviously, I report to the king, but in a much more practical everyday sense, I report to Kor and my commander, Zirda. Do I know that name? No.
01:04:37
Speaker
Lord King, do you know this person? Uh, no, I don't know Azirda. Could you tell us where she is right now? That sounded like a female name. I'm just going with it. Um, she's a with core trying to assess the situation and also put down a rebellion that's broken out in the city. Um, so there's, it's, it's a busy day. Mm-hmm.
01:05:07
Speaker
So that sounds like someone we might need to talk to and check on. Great. Anybody clued in that they might be a changeling? Yeah. For Randy's 20 at this point, since we've had some opportunity to, uh, to, uh, uh, observe none of them appear to be a changeling. Okay. Yep.
01:05:29
Speaker
Fine, you can go speak to Kor and Zirda while we speak to this cake. Now I don't like that. Wait, hang on. Okay, the fella there without the armor, he didn't look like he was here for a tussle. What's his job?
01:05:48
Speaker
Um, he just kind of looks at you and holds his hands up and they erupt in fire. Yeah. That's kind of what I figured. Uh, do you got any, uh, non punchy punchy spells on you? Can you cast a zone of truth? Can you cast a true side? Can you cast to something to maybe help speed this along? I mean, I, I do have some non punchy spells like this one. And he places his hand on the shoulder of the one that you hit and the wounds heal up.
01:06:18
Speaker
I was, that was right. Nice of you. Uh, but more to the point, the truth ones. No, man, that'd be the first guy I put on a team for this sort of fence for this sort of situation. But Eric looks over to the one that he's been holding and says, now you behave yourself and he lets it go. He kind of glowers at you and straightens his tunic or his tabard brother. Well, it seems to me.
01:06:51
Speaker
that there are some easy ways to solve this. Three is a paladin of some rank. I know he's capable. Uh, I'm speaking with some meta knowledge that high ranking paladins are capable of casting zone of truth. Um, we are currently, at least there's another team seeking out three as we speak.
Urgency and Escape: The King's Safety
01:07:20
Speaker
Yeah. What's going on? Probably a team of the, it's probably a team of these eyes coming to attempt to collect three kidding. Yeah. I know. Are they all dead around you right now? Uh, well, no, one of them is. Oh, that's too bad. Um, what's the situation? Yeah. And the others are one of them. There's, if you look out a window, where you are, you might see a big black cloud formed over part of the city.
01:07:46
Speaker
Uh, that's why there's a lot of wind background noise because one of them just created a storm. Um, there's can, can we, whatever we got to talk about, can you just tell me nine need not need not respond and you hear sword clashing and then you hear crass. Got it. Like, okay. That's the rib. My Lord three is under attack by other members of this entity.
01:08:16
Speaker
What? And Borenel, like he was already standing with his hammer in hand when things were popping off and he moves for the door. Eric looks to the officer and says, I'm being a veteran. You know exactly what the relationship between them is. We're going with him.
01:08:46
Speaker
to see to his friend, if you would like to follow at a respectful distance, I won't object to this. He, if you try to prevent us, he jumps out of his seat mid sentence while you're speaking and gestures to his men is like, no, listen, nobody is going anywhere right now because I'll cut my way clear if I must.
01:09:10
Speaker
That's fine, you can kill realish soldiers all you want. I don't care. Because as of this afternoon, I found out that the country that I have given my life to is not what I thought it was. And you're gonna forgive me if I'm not going to listen to a bunch of people that I don't know come into a room and tell me what's what when we just realized the king that we've been serving isn't the king, but oh, conveniently another one pops up to take his place as soon as he goes down. I don't know any of you,
01:09:38
Speaker
Look, I don't know what you want from me here, but I will gladly die for my country and defending it. So finishing his thought. So I don't know what you expect me to do right now, but I'm going to do my duty. And if your duty is killing me for trying to ensure that my nation is safe, that's fine. But that's what you're doing right now.
01:10:09
Speaker
I mean, you're an officer, you have to use your judgment in the field. And I know that you may not realize this, but if we want to walk out that door over your objection, you can't stop us. I'm advising you to not risk bodily harm to your men who I don't particularly wish ill.
01:10:42
Speaker
and to just see how things go. I'm advising you not to risk being wrong right now because the consequences of you being wrong right now. Do you really want to spend the rest of your days having possibly harmed the king? So your call, we're leaving. Fight to stop us, follow at a respectful distance.
01:11:13
Speaker
Those are the options. Yeah. There are other options, but fight to stop us or do otherwise, but we're leaving because King's friend is in danger. Um, he looking each of you square in the squarely in the eye, nods his head and walks through the doorway, looks at his man and places a hand on one of their shoulders and says, you all go.
01:11:44
Speaker
I'll handle it. No reason for you all to be here. And they kind of look at each other and all but one leaves the one not wearing any armor stays behind and kind of locks eyes and they turn and stand in the doorway and pull weapons. Lord King. Well, I don't
01:12:19
Speaker
Oh man, I've got this. Oh, I just realized I've got this. I don't want any harm to come to three. What's the current distance? Roughly. How far into the chamber of parliament are we? Just roughly.
01:12:39
Speaker
I would say Rookins office is really close to the entrance. So, uh, I would say it's about a 60 yard walk through the hallway to get the front door. Okay. 60 feet. I mean, Eric, Eric backs towards the King. He's currently speaking. Are you stopping him? I'm sorry. Go ahead. Um, yeah, no, but I'm, I'm still moving towards him though. Okay. And he turns and looks at all of you and says,
01:13:08
Speaker
protect him, and he turns back to Mert and says, if I go with you peaceably, can my companions not? Can they be allowed to go help three? And Mert kind of nods. I'm not. My Lord, I have every reason to believe. I'm sorry. Can you say the name of the commander of the eyes again? Mert. No, the, the, the overall commander. Zirda. Zirda. Yes. Yeah.
01:13:37
Speaker
In other words, we have every reason to believe Zirda is a changeling inspired agent. And this man knowingly or otherwise is leading you into danger. So if you'd like to go see three, I can get you there without this man having to be harmed.
01:14:04
Speaker
And he just nods and says very well. I look at Dex and say, please turn out to kill him. I take the king's hand and I cast Dimension Door. Yeah. We head to the street. Okay. And Dex, as soon as that happens, Dex goes, well, you better go get them. Just happens. Um. End of episode.
01:14:33
Speaker
Booyah, his arm's getting tired. That is a readied action, you know. Thank you all so much for listening. Speaker
I'm Philip. I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. We'll see you next time.
