Introduction to Speedway Stories
00:01:28
Speaker
Welcome everybody to another edition of Speedway Stories. It's your host Wally and Johnny Bongs. We've got another special guest tonight and everything else for you folks. It's one of my good buddies Cecil Frazier.
00:01:40
Speaker
Let's bring Cecil up here for you guys. What's up Cecil? How you doing tonight buddy? Pretty good. How are all you guys? ah We're doing good for a Monday man. Yeah glad it warmed up.
00:01:53
Speaker
The way it's looking, up it's not going to stay long enough. We've got to get through this weekend coming up, and then it's back again. Yeah. All righty, guys. This is Cecil Frazier. He's into rough truck racing um and off-road adventures and shit like that.
00:02:09
Speaker
I originally met Cecil at last year at the Hartford Fair Summer Race. He actually parked next to me and my cousin and everything else. Yeah. Cecil, you want to go ahead and introduce yourself, kind of explain a little bit of why you're into the hobby and everything else, and we'll go from there, buddy.
Cecil Frazier's Racing Journey
00:02:28
Speaker
I'm Cecil Wendell Frazier I'm 39 years old. Last year was my first year racing modified tough trucks. I bought Preston Springston's old truck. um I've been in the off-road hobby most of my life, and That's what led up to it. I've always wanted to do it, but never could afford it. I had help getting a truck, and I'm the driver now, so this is where we're at.
00:02:51
Speaker
Yeah, man. yeah You come a wet long way from your chopped up che talk convertible Cherokee ah that we first i when I first met you, man. Yeah. I'll tell you what.
00:03:03
Speaker
From coming from that into that modified that you bought, dude, I'll tell you what. You're going to be a scary guy this coming season, man, because – You were up there. You were top five when you got that truck. But now with your little updates and everything else you're doing, that I look for you to really, really push Brad and Tyler for that first and second spot in the Point Series this year.
00:03:27
Speaker
I really struggled with the truck last year. I drove all last year with no power steering. Are you serious? Yeah. I didn't have power steering the whole time. Oh, my goodness, dude. And then that didn't.
00:03:40
Speaker
the rear suspension on the truck. When we was at, do you remember the monster truck show when I overshot the tabletop? i think Yeah. I seen stars on that one. My head back in my seat.
00:03:54
Speaker
Ooh. Do you guys, did you, you're going to end up putting you a suspension seat or something in that or a containment seat? ah The big problem was the rear suspension wasn't set up right. And it was just like bucking me real hard and it was whiplashing me and making my head hit the seat.
00:04:09
Speaker
I've got all that figured out now. Gotcha. Well, you got to remember that truck was put together after, back together after getting a dumbass at Norwalk the previous year. yeah That's why I named it Twisted Metal.
00:04:22
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, I mean, it and it's fitting for it. And I mean, it is. um yeah What was it like um going from basically what I call, I mean, you the Jeep was kind of stock other than, you know, the suspension shit under going from that to a modified. What is like, what, how big of a difference does that make you feel when you get into something with little more horsepower?
00:04:47
Speaker
and It was like no feeling I've ever felt in my life. i would I would compare it to probably going to outer space. That's what it felt like in a rocket ship. I'll be honest with you. You made that thing look like a rocket ship
Racing Challenges and Experiences
00:05:00
Speaker
quite a few times. The first time I really got to drive it was probably Knox because we went to Perry and it was a mud hole.
00:05:10
Speaker
Was that Perry, the first one? That's Perry County, right? Marion County was the very first one. Okay, not that one. The next one. Yeah, that was Perry afterwards. Yeah, where freaking it looked like a you might as well went down to Florida and played in the afterglades the way it was. That's the one, Dwayne one.
00:05:29
Speaker
Yeah, I sucked it full of water there, and the throttle stuck when I started it in reverse. That scared me pretty bad, so I really didn't get to drive it there. It was so muddy. Then we went to, ah what was the one where my shock broke?
00:05:45
Speaker
What was the next race after that? It's Shokton. Let's see. It was Shokton, right? Yeah. Shokton summer race. Yeah, that's right. Because Knox was Knox was two weeks after that.
00:06:00
Speaker
Yeah. I broke my shock there, so I didn't get a full run there. So the first time I really got to drive it was Knox. And that limit that finish line jump. Yeah, the finish line jump had my nerves racked.
00:06:13
Speaker
Oh, I bet. Well, and the way that, the way Knox has got that big jump, man, I love it to an extent, but at the same time, it ah lot of people get hurt off that fucking thing.
00:06:27
Speaker
Well, when my shock broke, out man it was shocked and it pinched my brake line and I didn't know it. And I drove at Knox with a pinched front brake line. So my turning brake wasn't working. And when I went off the finish line jump, I hit the brakes and it started spinning the truck sideways. And I almost didn't get stopped before the barrier.
00:06:43
Speaker
Yeah, I seen that. I was i seen that because you ran ran after I did and everything else. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it this year again to getting with everybody. um hey If you haven't heard lately on my personal channel and stuff, I got a collab going with a buddy of mine. It's called We Broke Garage.
00:07:02
Speaker
We're building that Cherokee that I got and everything. um He's sponsoring me for six to eight races this summer. so That'll be fun. Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to it So that and my older two Will probably get seat time a couple times Depending on if they want to drive or not But right other than that It's going to be pretty cool I think everybody's going to be gunning hard this year I'm looking forward to it it's Dude, everybody's going through a revamp mode I mean, I just talked to Dale the other day And fuck, he's already been toying around with both of them again And it's like, jeez cow, dude Can't you leave nothing alone
00:07:40
Speaker
It seems like there's a lot of races this year too. but Yeah. what Well, when you got the monster truck shows coming up, um the thing of it with the monster truck shows, they're spread out so far and in between the fair races and stuff.
00:07:58
Speaker
Some of them is like right on top of other races too. I don't know how how the points is going to work this year. I haven't had chance to talk to Tyler or anything since he was on the show at the end of the season.
00:08:11
Speaker
Um, but I seen full throttle. Um, and Wes hit me up and let me know about it. They're doing a point series this year just for the monster truck shows.
00:08:21
Speaker
That'll be cool. It'll be different. Oh yeah. they And it's cool because from what I was reading, they're giving out more details and March and stuff about how it all works. Um, will that be bracket raising?
00:08:34
Speaker
That's what they're talking, doing the heads up bracket style stuff. So, um, basically we're, run it until, till the end. And I think Wes said they're talking, doing top five.
00:08:45
Speaker
And that'd be cool. Yeah. And it's open and they're willing to open. They want at least from what I understand, a minimum of eight.
00:08:55
Speaker
There's probably some new guys coming on this year too, isn't there?
00:09:00
Speaker
What's that guy Mount Gideon Anthony? Yeah. Is he coming back this year? i I have no clue as far as I know. i mean, he might be. I know Coakley's redoing his truck again.
00:09:13
Speaker
He just got a new body for it, trying to sell his old one. He readjusted some stuff. Dale's working on both of them. um Brock's got his back together and fixed, which is awesome to see.
00:09:27
Speaker
bra separate Brad's is pretty much ready to rock and roll. Both of them, the Bronco and Mod.
00:09:36
Speaker
I got something coming together, even though it's pretty much a stock Jeep, but it's going to have decent shocks and shit done around on it. um Jared's got his.
00:09:47
Speaker
He's working on getting that one a little more set up and stuff. There's quite a few guys still there tinkering around. Dale's trying to get stuff done because he wants to go here. our First weekend in March is the first for full throttle show.
00:10:01
Speaker
It's over in Indiana. He's trying to get side shit done, he said, to go over. So we'll see. Him, I think Jason's going. I know Wes said he's going. Jason Daniels?
00:10:13
Speaker
Yeah. We'll see what happens. um I think Brad was talking possibly. It just depends on what all he's got going on family-wise, he said.
00:10:23
Speaker
But, I mean, i'll be it's going to be nice because they're including Indiana, Kentucky. I think they got West Virginia and Pennsylvania as part of it. But majority of the full-throttle tough truck races,
00:10:37
Speaker
for the points are going to be held here in Ohio. That's cool. Yeah. yeah Well, it's going to be, it's going to be different, especially doing two points races. If you really get into it, you think about it.
00:10:49
Speaker
Right. These trucks are a second job. Oh yeah. dinner Then you got just, then keeping reptiles is a second, is a third job for me. Then you got family time on top of that. Yeah. Which is yeah which is technically the number one priority and everything else falls in, but still it's,
00:11:08
Speaker
It can be a handful, especially with with your guys' style so trucks and stuff, man. You guys have got a lot of upkeep, a lot of adjusting. then you got line you go through You got a life to take care of outside of that.
00:11:22
Speaker
yeah no It's a lot. Oh, yeah. yeah Oh, yeah. That's
Commitment to Racing Season
00:11:26
Speaker
definitely. well and Then you commit to a point series, and it's like if you if something comes up, you can't make them, and you feel like you know it's That's the worst thing ever.
00:11:37
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, yeah. If you can't make them, that don't feel good. Yeah. Well, and that's kind of the reason that I wouldn't, me personally, I wouldn't get into the points unless I was going to 110% committed because you never know what life's going to throw you.
00:11:53
Speaker
Oh, it's going to throw stuff your way. You can guarantee that. Oh, yeah. Well, and then the thing of it is, not only life, like like your incident down in West Virginia, we'll bring that up.
00:12:04
Speaker
You had that small rollover. Right. oh Say if there was something like that and there was more damage done to your truck or somebody else's truck, you're in the points and you're like in the top five and shit.
00:12:16
Speaker
Hey, Kayla, how's it going? ah Good. You got something. You're going to miss the next three races. Right there, you know, that right there in itself is you're kind of hoping some as much as you hate to say it.
00:12:32
Speaker
please don't finish, you know, better than what you need to. when i wrote When I rolled there, it busted the transfer case where it jarred the motor. Really? Yeah. would it break the Did it break the mount when it fell over and caused it to crack the case on that? i think just I think just the motor and tranny shifted and the trent transfer case is solid mounted and it busted the housing. Gotcha.
00:12:59
Speaker
Gotcha. So I got another question for you. Was that your buddy that bought the Joker Explorer? Yeah, that was my brother-in-law. Oh, your brother-in-law. Okay, okay.
00:13:11
Speaker
you guys get a front axle in the front of that thing yet? So he got four-wheel drive? Yeah, it was actually four-wheel drive last year. Really? Yeah. I was going to say when Nicene Shorty had it posted, it needed the front axle to make it four-wheel drive. Yeah, we fixed it when he got it. We built axles for the front of it.
00:13:30
Speaker
He looked good at Gilead in that thing. Yeah, it runs good. That'll be i don't be in i don'll be another one everybody's going to have to watch out for. the first thing The first time he test drove it, he rolled it at my house.
00:13:44
Speaker
Oh, did he really? Yeah. Well, at least he's got that out of his way. don't have got about You to get that out of the way. Oh, yeah. Well, that's been one of my... When I first started into this a long time ago, well, actually...
00:14:00
Speaker
16 years ago, my goal was actually to roll. And now it's like, after taking a break away, I'm like, dude, I kind of like finishing these races. This is kind of nice. When I rolled at West Virginia, it didn't feel very good. Like it, I felt it.
00:14:14
Speaker
Did you? Well, I was going say being strapped in the way you're strapped in with that harness and the seat and everything else, you feel everything. Yeah. Then the gas was pouring out the carburetor. It's a little bit scary when you're upside down.
00:14:30
Speaker
i seen I seen just parts of the videos afterwards that they posted after the event was over. i'm like, holy shit, he stuck the nut in that front tire. That tire stuck hard on you when you went over.
00:14:41
Speaker
It bent the door bars on the passenger side where when it hit the mud. yeah it was a lot if It didn't feel good. It don't look that bad on video, but it smacked the side pretty hard.
00:14:55
Speaker
Yeah, that the like they say, videos don't do it in justice when you're not there in person. So what's your plans for this summer? you're gonna you gonna enter and Tyler does the points again. You going to give it a shot for the points this year? Oh, yeah, for sure.
00:15:09
Speaker
I'm going it all in this summer. Oh, yeah. Everybody that's watching, Brock, Tyler, Wes, you heard it first right here, guys. He's committed. Hell, yeah. 100%. Oh, dude.
00:15:22
Speaker
ah then So did you do any any different changes to the truck more to your liking this offseason? or Yeah, we're we're putting different gearing in the truck. I didn't like how high geared it was.
00:15:34
Speaker
had basically road gears in it, and I'm dropping them down quite a bit. We put new shot we got new shocks for the back. I'm putting wider rims and tires on it, get a little bit more stable, and then we're going to have power steering and redoing the motor. <unk> anne That's the plan.
00:15:54
Speaker
Don't mind me asking, what size cubic inch motor are you running in that? Preston said it was a 429 Chevy.
00:16:06
Speaker
It's actually, it's, a
00:16:11
Speaker
who owned Logan's truck? What was his name?
00:16:16
Speaker
Adam. Yeah. Yep. Blank and horns. From my, from what I know, that's Adam's old motor. It's one of his old motors. Yeah. Yeah, it's one of his old motors.
00:16:30
Speaker
Like the heads and all of that stuff because they let the block freeze and had to put an iron block on it because it had aluminum block, but all the rest of the stuff was out of Adam's truck. Nice. Or Logan's truck.
00:16:41
Speaker
Yeah, you know that's got some – that had some money done to it and everything else with that top end shit. Adam never spared a dime on when he had that truck. Either did Levi's, though. And Levi's truck is the one Dale got off shorty. So that truck used to have, was that a yellow Ford at one or a black Ford at one time?
00:17:02
Speaker
It was yellow. Then it was black. Yes. That's a nice truck. Yep. Yep. Used to be a Levi late was sponsored by his um uncle. It was legend sports bar. It was called the legends truck.
00:17:15
Speaker
But yeah, that was Levi's old truck. I miss the guys from back in the day. I mean, I get why they got out of
Safety Concerns in Racing
00:17:21
Speaker
it. um that's That's one that stuck out to me when I was a kid. Like he would come to Morrow County and um that that one stuck out to me big time.
00:17:31
Speaker
Well, basically after the Jamborees died, that's when when Levi, Adam, ah John yodert john got out of Yoder got out of it. A couple other ones because that was their purpose was just basically the besides the fairs, they were hitting up the Jamborees, the do those shows and stuff. And they, I mean, they did Adam five years in a row, kept Ohio on the map, man, as national champs for the Jamboree.
00:18:00
Speaker
So yeah, I always enjoyed watching Travis too. He put on a show. Travis was awesome. I have no idea where that chassis is at anymore though. That's the problem. I never knew, never knew where that went. i mean I mean, he sold it as a complete roller.
00:18:18
Speaker
Nobody. I think it was just the chassis. That was a heck of a truck. we all Yeah. He had that thing set up. um I think after the Knox incident and everything else. yeah
00:18:35
Speaker
What's that, Jamie? He's not taking mud too. Maybe Bronco. Oh, for that. I gotcha. Talking about Brad. That's Brad's cousin, Jamie.
00:18:47
Speaker
But yeah, he had He had that truck. I mean, that was that Jason Daniels helped build that truck. That was a nasty fucking truck, man. But yeah, I think the Knox accident kind of kind of opened his eyes up and stuff. Now, now he's doing the pulling truck thing with good buddies of his and family and stuff of his. So
00:19:14
Speaker
I'm interested to see what Logan's truck does this year, too. I heard about the Delaware incident. What the hell happened? Fill me in on that. Were you there for that? Yeah, I was staging, getting ready to go out, and I looked up, and he did remember what Dustin did there? Yeah.
00:19:29
Speaker
He was probably two mile an hour from doing the same thing. When he landed, he was on the gas wide open, and it broke the driveshaft, caught the wiring and the fuel line, and sparked, and the whole thing caught on fire. Man, oh, man.
00:19:46
Speaker
He was flying through the air like that. Oh, so he was getting it he was getting ready to play a Dustin and a Brad deal at Delaware going end over end. Yeah, and he floored it in the air. When he hit, it broke the drive chain, and then it ripped the fuel lines and wires out, and that's what caught it on fire.
00:20:01
Speaker
i think that truck's on 116 octane or something like that, so it really went up. Yeah, yeah it was yeah i think they i think it yeah i think it was or I can't remember, but yeah.
00:20:13
Speaker
and the bad part is You don't put somebody behind the wheel that don't have the experience with that. That's a scary... That was scary. I was in... I was on the starting line and the flames. I seen the flames. It was like an explosion went up.
00:20:28
Speaker
i had to sit there. I got a text message saying Logan's old truck went up in flames. I'm like, dude, what? I was like, what? but man That's a serious truck.
00:20:40
Speaker
That... the The bad part is going back through that truck. I know they got to fire out in time and everything else. They're going to have to go back through, reset everything.
00:20:51
Speaker
and thats They're going to have to relearn that truck now. because they There's to be bugs in it after that. Oh, yeah. That truck is the prime example of just change the oil in it, keep the light maintenance up on it, and get in it and go.
00:21:10
Speaker
But it was not meant for somebody just to jump in and that's never done anything like that with that kind of kind of truck that was to be doing that shit.
00:21:21
Speaker
Right. Then you got Brock. He drove all last year and first year. Yeah, he was telling me about that on my way to Kachokton. I'm like, you did what? He goes, yeah, I never left first. I'm like, you're nuts, dude.
00:21:35
Speaker
I didn't know blow out his whole system there. That was at Kishokton, wasn't it? When he wrecked? Yeah. Last race.
00:21:46
Speaker
Last race of the year, man. And I'll tell you what, if he would have cleared that, you guys were in trouble. He was moving. Well, and the bad part is, is he was rage driving because the truck died great before he got started.
00:22:02
Speaker
I'm like, yep, he's driving pissed. And then the next thing you know, that's when that happened. I'm like, oh, fuck, man. And he just, you look in the video. he was maybe not even a half a foot from clearing that.
00:22:15
Speaker
Yeah. And it it just caught just enough. You put on a hell of a run at Coshocton, dude. I mean, I messed up bad there. i did. I thought I filled my truck. but You don't have that fuel tank full in that truck. It'll fuel surge.
00:22:28
Speaker
And the truck quit on me like two or three times out there. It ran out of fuel and shut off. Then kicked back on. Yeah. I didn't even realize that. I mean, I was just excited watching you guys run and stuff. It,
00:22:39
Speaker
That was the funnest track I've been on. I love the layout of that track. That was actually a nice layout. Yeah. How we jumped out of that turn in front of the crowd, that was awesome.
00:22:50
Speaker
Yeah. Hopefully, I'll do something like that again. That was the coolest one I would drove on. um This year, Knox's track was basically a speed track. I mean, there was really nothing to it. And I kind of like that.
00:23:06
Speaker
But some of these other fairs, Like Mount Gay, man. I don't know how you guys kept your teeth in your mouth. That hurt. I'm not going to lie. I was sore after that. Brock said he got a little sore after that. Brad said he was sore. Tyler even said he was sore.
00:23:21
Speaker
I was like, holy shit, dude. Yeah, I got whiplash on that one.
00:23:30
Speaker
They had them jumps built. I don't know why they did it like that. That guy that was running that was pretty rude at night, too. Oh yeah. My buddy Glick actually who has put this network, he asked how scary is it in a situation like that when you're just completely out of control and just have to hope for the best? yeah you You kind of experienced that with your role with West Virginia. Basically, what would you what you what's it like in that situation? What'd you do? Just basically hold on and say, here we go?
00:23:59
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, you're strapped in there pretty good. The the most nerve wracking part for me is in staging. getting those butterflies late in the go. I still get them after, after I, my fucking gut started turning and everything there at Knox after not doing it for 16 years. And it's like, you know, everybody else go and then see Jared, his Jeep not come out, come out of gear. And the cheater brake got locked up on him.
00:24:27
Speaker
And he was like two trucks in front of me. I'm like, man, what's going to happen with me when I get out here? I'm like, right yeah drop a drive shaft or this or something else is gonna happen but yeah ah but once i got out there and got staged and got going man it it all went away and that adrenaline just takes over right forgot how i forgot how much fun it is it's a blast it's the funnest thing i've ever done i've met the coolest people i've ever met doing this too really good well welcome i'm gonna officially announce it here welcome to the family man this has been i'm one of the
00:25:01
Speaker
original OGs from the time it started to now and going to be until the day I die. So yeah, I don't plan on going nowhere. Hell yeah, man. I'm looking forward to this season.
00:25:11
Speaker
Um, outside of running rough truck and stuff, is there anything else you, you do with like your family and stuff you guys do any,
00:25:23
Speaker
we ride full wheelers and we have Jeeps and stuff like that. Oh, nice. Oh yeah, man. Go do the good, good old, Four wheeling and Jeep adventures, huh?
00:25:34
Speaker
Yeah, my boys are into it big time. Well, they're just one's your wallet. <unk> yeah I'm glad i I'm not the only one that has to deal with that. my Like I said, with my two, it's it's like, shit, here we go.
00:25:51
Speaker
Yeah. um But yeah, man, it on your truck, With the way it's set up, are you running the nitrogen shocks on it, or are you running like the – how's the other ones?
00:26:06
Speaker
I got coilovers with nitrogen in them. You got the coilovers? Nice. Yeah, they take nitrogen. Hell yeah. Don't forget, Shorty can fill those for you.
00:26:17
Speaker
Yeah. Thank God for him until till he decides not to do it no more. Yeah. Then we're all kind of screwed. There's a lot of people that look up to him, isn't there?
00:26:29
Speaker
Well, he he's he's a good dude and everything else. He's been kind of a big supporter from the get-go of all this and everything. and if you go rap truck If you go rough truck racing, you hear his name a lot.
00:26:42
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Well, and and the thing of it is is say you still hear to Adam's name because pretty much he's he's been the guy to go to for filling the nitro shocks nitrogen shocks.
00:26:55
Speaker
get And he's able to get a lot of the shit most of the guys can't get real quick. And he's usually pretty good about it. so yeah i learned Tyler and his girlfriend put a lot of work into it too.
00:27:09
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Yeah, they they do a lot, man. um Tyler's dad, kind of they kind of slacked this year on on film and rough trucks this year. It was kind of odd.
00:27:21
Speaker
They didn't get very many videos out over there on his dad's channel this year. I've watched every one of them, I think, 10 times. and I've lost count. I've lost count since they've started the channel. I've been going back re-watching. and It's like I've lost count how many times i've watched every one of them.
00:27:38
Speaker
but I think the one where Preston front-flipped my truck's got the most views, don't it? Second most. Yep. Then I see where he drove up the fence at Hartford.
00:27:52
Speaker
He's up. but Yep, I still remember when Joe Maglott first built that truck and everything. And now now good old Joe's out doing lawnmower racing. Man, he's built some pretty wicked fucking lawnmower racers. Yeah, on your on that with... Plus, too, the other thing i was going to ask you about going for modified, the way you have your the Cherokee setup that I first met you in, now compared to...
00:28:24
Speaker
the suspension and everything else, what's the, how's it feel the difference between the modified and what you had set up on the Cherokee? Um, the Cherokee feels like a log wagon compared to that.
00:28:40
Speaker
It'll hurt you. Yeah. Kind of, kind of one of those deals that there was no give. Yeah. Gotcha. It, ah it landed so hard that one time it broke the motor mounts off the motor.
00:28:56
Speaker
Oh, during that summer race? yeah one side That one side of that track, man, that was rough for everybody. Yeah. Morrow County was real rough. Oh, yeah. I forgot you ran that up there, too. I forgot about that. getting so I won't be doing that again.
00:29:15
Speaker
I don't know how anybody in a stock vehicle walked away from Morrow County the way that track was done. I don't know how they don't break their back or neck. Some of them then younger guys hit them finish line jumps and stuff. man it That's got to hurt.
00:29:31
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Well, and that's the thing with Knox. That's the bad part. That's where a majority of the guys were getting hurt in the stock because they were bottoming out or when that nose hit from going down, getting jarred so hard.
00:29:45
Speaker
That's why i when I do it anymore, I will not do it without a five-point harness. I did the seat belt thing. I've had cuts down across my neck from that seat belt walk-in. and catching and everything and hitting my face on the steering wheel through my helmet i'm like no not again one word whiplash that one race we went to um that dale won and i got second they before we raced i think there was like three or four people that left in the ambulance because that one jump and they were hurt bad like
00:30:20
Speaker
Oh, yeah, the that was yeah where Karen ended up fucking up. Yeah, Karen did it. Yeah. That was... I don't know how many anybody ran down there.
00:30:34
Speaker
No. it like Those people were breaking their backs. Well, hell, when you're putting a motocross jump for the first jump off of there, and then then you're going right into the other ones.
00:30:48
Speaker
Yeah, i don't understand. What's up, Tyler? Tyler Mead is in the chat. o Said I removed my stock sneak the day I brought brought the Jeep home and sold a racing seat with extra padding and a five-point harness.
00:31:03
Speaker
I got a suspension seat for mine with a five-point harness this year. or so My goal in the future is to get a full containment like a monster truck. i'll do those be Those would be fucking perfect.
00:31:15
Speaker
But you see the press on those things? Yeah. then by like By the way, anybody watching Monster Trucks that's out here that sponsors Monster Trucks, my buddies, not only Cecil, but some of the other guys that run these mods and stuff, they're looking for seat sponsors for contaminant seats.
00:31:33
Speaker
Hook them up. yeah I'm going to shout them out. Hook them up. we That's what we should all have, honestly.
00:31:44
Speaker
Well, and in a way... Because when it first originally started, even the mo with the mods, they fucking had those plastic dirt track racing seats in them. A lot of the guys did. Or they had the aluminum racing seats.
00:31:58
Speaker
And it's com it's come a long way. um But yeah, there's still people that... They still run those hard plastic seats. And then they wonder wonder why their back and tailbone hurts all the time after night after running them.
00:32:15
Speaker
The big... I think when I get it done, I'm going to try to find a professional to fit it to me and get it done. But that's not going to be anytime soon. Somebody get us the winning lottery numbers. Then we can get it done. You might look at a couple grand for one.
00:32:31
Speaker
Oh, easy. um Tim Warner said his was $3,500 for the Megatruck that he had done. Yeah, then they they have you sit in it and inject the foam so it fits you perfect.
00:32:43
Speaker
Yeah, he tried a different one. he said last year when he came out to the summer race, ended up going back to his original custom seat that he had done because he couldn't get comfortable behind the wheel. so I took my boys to monster truck show couple weekends ago, and I seen they had like a harness that went around their midsection, and it hooked to the roll cage, and it would keep their spine from compressing.
00:33:08
Speaker
and It's like the Hans device. It's ah it's another edition of the Hans device. Yeah, i thought that was a pretty good idea. Mark Talbert in the chat. Marketplace is a way to go. Just got a brand new RaceQuip for full containment for $300. He said he had to drive two hours from home.
00:33:25
Speaker
Hell, that ain't bad, man, for a full containment seat for $300. You definitely can't, especially RaceQuip. That's an expensive brand right there in itself.
Future Racing Plans
00:33:35
Speaker
Been getting balance.
00:33:36
Speaker
Getting them mounted right is a whole different story too. Yeah, and that's where you basically, you need three people. you sitting in the seat and two sitting there helping get it where you're comfortable in mounting it and having it where it's mounted and it's not going to break on you.
00:33:57
Speaker
Johnny, you got any questions you want to ask before I keep asking? Yeah. i Shit, dude. I'm interested about this. It seems like an interesting ah area of racing.
00:34:09
Speaker
Something heard too much about. I'm just glad to hear more about it. Well, New York's actually got some famous rough truck racers, too. so Yeah, we need to have a look around.
00:34:21
Speaker
We need to do a Ohio versus Pennsylvania. That'd be interesting. Well, just to let you know, if things will go, I'm still working on it, but I'm Keeping my fingers crossed. I got until the end of March.
00:34:35
Speaker
That show I'm wanting to put on in October. I've got some of the Pennsylvania boys that want to come over and play. so Yeah. That sounds like a good time to me. get Get the whole Foy Toy crew. They're talking if they don't have nothing going on and their trucks are together coming over. Hell yeah.
00:34:52
Speaker
I've actually got a couple guys even interested coming out from Oklahoma and Missouri possibly. It just depends on how I got it set up purse-wise and stuff. I'm working on trying to get that taken care of and, um, should have something here by the third week of March, hopefully in place. And we'll be ready to rock and roll.
00:35:12
Speaker
Make it official. We'll see what happens. I'm working on some stuff behind the scenes for that. I want it to happen. So that'll be cool. If I can help you out, I will. Oh, definitely, man. You're not the only one. Everybody else is on board too.
00:35:24
Speaker
Um, My main thing besides getting biggest problem is getting the insurance, but I've got that working out right now. That's my only holdup really. Is it quite a bit?
00:35:36
Speaker
A minimum of a minimum of $50,000 liability just because of the style of that that I want to put on. It's it's not cheap. so Right. good but That and then trying to get working on trying to get a sponsor for some couple pieces of equipment so I can make the have the track built and everything. But other than that, I could probably help you out there.
00:36:00
Speaker
If you need help. Yeah, I know a guy. OK, I'll be in touch. That's for sure. Yeah, there's I've got god I've been working, working on some stuff trying to get it done.
00:36:13
Speaker
I know there's a few other things that going on behind the scenes with that. I got a couple other sponsors I'm waiting to hear back from and not going to jinx it now, but a couple of them are well known in the racing community for everything, not just off-road racing. So I've got that in the works.
00:36:31
Speaker
They're supposed to get back with me here soon. So I think this is going to be a good year for it. Oh, I think everything. And I mean, it's, a it's bringing me back to the early 2000s, late nineties when mods were, the rough truck was still hot and heavy.
00:36:48
Speaker
It's coming back hot and heavy. It's making yeah making a full return again. a lot of people are promoting it. Oh, yeah. Well, not only that, it's just the mods ain't dying off, man. it's They're coming back, or there's new rides coming out that people are getting back into it again, and it's fucking awesome.
00:37:09
Speaker
Got some new blood in it. Oh, yeah. Well, now if we can get the fare boards to kind of work with everything, Yeah, I get you want destruction and everything else, but at the same time, at what cost is it to for people, you know, the back injuries, the squads and stuff, that wins enough?
00:37:31
Speaker
We drawed some big crowds last year. was surprised. <unk>xusnox Knox and Croton are the two largest fairs that brings in sellout crowds.
00:37:43
Speaker
We made them fairs a lot of money those nights. Oh, yeah. Always do. Always do. And that's like the draw. Rough Truck is now the new demolition derby because derbying is getting so far out there. And I've done derbying for a long time, too.
00:38:04
Speaker
It's more of a money pit for that now because cars are getting harder to find. They're. They're basically tanks. They don't fucking bend anymore. There's guys getting eight shows out of one car.
00:38:20
Speaker
helm Some of the guys have got drivetrains that are worth more than your mod truck that you have. Just you motor. yeah it's like for for that i I love Derby's, don't get wrong, but that's just ridiculous.
00:38:33
Speaker
right You're going to go out there and tear it up in 10 minutes. Yep. But yeah, Yeah, this season is going to be a blast.
Racing Scene and Prize Money Discussion
00:38:43
Speaker
It's a lot of heavy hitters coming back.
00:38:46
Speaker
You're right there in the mix with everybody. I plan on putting everything I got into it this year. Well, we're looking forward to that, man. It's going to be exciting. Are
00:39:00
Speaker
you leaving a truck the truck? Did you put you get the body fixed on that yet? um Yeah, I ordered some body parts. We're just keeping the same body, just replacing the broke stuff on it.
00:39:10
Speaker
Barber glasses a little bit. I'm not getting too carried away with the body because I'm probably going to do it again. Hell yeah.
00:39:22
Speaker
Yeah, Ryan, you are right, man. I agree. Ryan Smith is exactly right. Knox and Hartford need to up their payoffs. Dude, especially with the with the entries that they have and the crowds that they have, especially Hartford.
00:39:36
Speaker
Ryan, you're well-known at Hartford Fair during the summer race and during that. um eti Over 200 vehicles entered in on a Friday night at Croton, but yet they don't want to really pay nothing for either class.
00:39:52
Speaker
Right. i don't And the thing of it is is they've got sponsors that stepped up with this prize money for the just that night alone. men act Throw a little extra in on top of Yeah, give us some trophies too.
00:40:07
Speaker
Yeah. You got that really ripped in your neck for I like what Knox does though. I like the the wood carved door deal, burnt wood trophies. Those are pretty cool.
00:40:18
Speaker
You need something to take home. Yeah. But I mean, it's still, but yeah, how even Morrow County paid more than what Knox did this year. That was sad.
00:40:29
Speaker
When we went to that Portage race, I got second and got the long jump, walked away with 750 that day. They paid that much for long jump and second place. Yeah. Dale got first. I don't know what he got, but the long jump and second place, I had 750. I was happy with that.
00:40:46
Speaker
That's not bad. I mean, even though it costs more than that, you know, for your guys' stuff. Right. but It helps a lot. It'd be nice to see some of these, see these persons. Well, that's like Knox used to pay the top 40 entries and they cut it off at 25 this year.
00:41:03
Speaker
Right. That paid for my race fuel for the year. Did it? yeah I mean, I guess there's a plus out of the ordeal then. I mean, you got something to cover one of the most expensive things besides motor repair and shit like that. But yeah. Right.
00:41:20
Speaker
Yeah. I was actually three spots out of the money at Knox for my first time being back. I would have been in the money if they would have paid paid back the top 40 like they were going to. What's that long jump feel like in a Cherokee?
00:41:32
Speaker
Yeah. Sucks. know that And it didn't help my ass in, got squirrely because of the the mud from Derek when he first went off and from that trash can running down in it.
00:41:44
Speaker
I had the back tires on that Cherokee was a little, little wishy-washy in the middle, kind of bald in the middle. And it kind of started sliding on me. And when I went to gun it to make it where it didn't nosedive, I'm like, fuck it. This is going to hurt a minute.
00:41:58
Speaker
It charred me a little bit. My back hurt for about a day, but after that, I was all right. I had my five-point harness, so. That trash can deal almost went all bad.
00:42:10
Speaker
it It did. it it It was, I mean, it was a cool idea. It was a cool idea, but yeah, he he about barrel rolled that motherfucker. He would have got hurt in that one.
00:42:24
Speaker
Yeah. It would have smashed the Jeep. He would have been hurt bad. Because he has no roll cage or nothing in that Jeep, which I highly recommend even just a damn roll bar. Put a fucking U-shape or something at least in the center of that Jeep. So if you do roll it, it's not going to fully come down on you.
00:42:42
Speaker
Yeah. But, yeah. Yeah, it's cool. So what do you do for – don't mind me asking? I don't mind. see C3 Home Imprison. Is that your construction company that you do there, buddy?
00:42:57
Speaker
Yeah, that's me and my dad. We build a boat docks and then I do basically all construction work. We work outside. We don't do much inside work. We build pole barns, roofing, siding, but our main thing is boat docks.
00:43:10
Speaker
No kidding. Yeah, this winter has been rough with work because of how cold it is. bet. You guys usually want a mild winter, more busier in the wintertime than you are in the summer on boat docks?
00:43:24
Speaker
Yeah, because we can work on the ice. We'll drill through the ice and build them like that. That'd be interesting. This winter's just going to be cold. Oh, yeah.
00:43:35
Speaker
This has been one of the coldest winters in a long time. Hopefully, we don't have to deal with the damn mosquitoes as at the fairs as bad as we've been dealing with. Yeah, I'm a lot.
00:43:48
Speaker
So your main goals for the year is you're going to enter that. month When the NFL comes out for that monster truck deal, you're going to earn the points for that too. um I'm going to try to. Yeah.
00:44:00
Speaker
You're going have a real busy summer, man. Yeah. you don't have one i be I've had some big life changes just happen. working on a new shop. So that just moved into a different house. So I might have more time to do it too.
00:44:14
Speaker
Well, congratulations, man. That's awesome to hear, dude. I'm excited
