Recording Schedule Insights

00:00:39
Speaker
I'm Tom here with Trevor. How's it going, Trevor?
00:00:41
Speaker
Hey, pretty good. How's your weekend going so far? You know, it's going. I'm actually so we're recording this a little bit earlier than we usually do. um be Saturday. It's not a Sunday for those who want to behind the scenes.
00:00:54
Speaker
Yeah, i many of you may be surprised to learn that we typically record on Sunday and then I turn the podcast episode around within an hour or two and then it gets posted for Mondays.
00:01:05
Speaker
So it's, you know, we we are pretty quick where a lot most podcasts are not that quick. mean, given most podcasts probably have higher quality standards than we do. But, you know, as far as removing that.
00:01:17
Speaker
Some people get into like removing certain things. and Yeah, yeah. I guess, yeah, we don't do a lot of editing, but you know I feel like we have a good ah good process down is why we can do it quickly. Yeah, absolutely.

Theme Park Experiences and Strategies

00:01:28
Speaker
Absolutely. But we're doing it Saturday, and I hate to i hate to talk about what I'm going to talk about again, but...
00:01:34
Speaker
ah yeah ah The weather's finally going to be nice it has been like ah it' been It has been 90 degrees plus here for weeks now, right? So we have not been utilizing our ah season passes at Carowinds, but it's going to be like...
00:01:51
Speaker
77 78 tomorrow which she let's see let's do a quick ah of Fahrenheit to Celsius for you here Trevor that's 25 degrees Celsius that's that's about the temperature it's been here for the last week so which is just excellent yeah Right.
00:02:05
Speaker
Just beautiful weather. Right. Especially when the weather's been 95 degrees. So we're going to carowinds tomorrow and we're going to be, you know, using up our regular podcast time. um There's a chance of rain and maybe that'll hopefully that'll keep some people away. I we the last time, you know, when we went to Disney, actually, when we saw you there and you noticed this, too, I'm sure it was overcast like that whole day at Magic Kingdom, but it didn't rain until like five o'clock. But they yeah, it was like dead, though, I think because it was so overcast.
00:02:35
Speaker
Oh, it was it was wonderful. like like, yeah. So, so that Sunday was great. And, you know, we, yeah it the ah exhibit A of that was the picture of me and my brother on pirates that we, we posted. Exactly. Exactly. Like that's, that's how dead it was. And then the, the Monday at Epcot, it was raining as well and there was nobody there. So yeah, you know, you know, translating that to, you know, Carowinds, which is a local theme park for you. Hopefully it's the same kind of thing, right? That, you people. Yeah.
00:03:05
Speaker
Yeah. that That's honestly like the best case scenario I feel. Cause you know, even if like, I know, i know looking at the rides at Carol wins, a lot of them are outside. So, you know, if it does rain, that just shuts things down yeah altogether.
00:03:18
Speaker
But, um, you know, if, as long as it's like scattered showers though, that usually means that you can, you know, you wait it out and you can, uh, you know, you can get on when everybody else is leaving the park.
00:03:30
Speaker
Yeah. That's exactly what we used to do when I was a kid. And I talked about this before when was a kid, we were by six flags, great adventure, which is um probably, I mean, it's one of the best six flags that's out there. They have, they're very well known for their roller coasters. And I mean, at one point, you know, they had King to car, which was the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world.
00:03:51
Speaker
ah They recently demolished that, but we used to get an annual passes. There are season passes. And every time, like in the summertime, if it rained in the morning, we would go in the afternoon because it would like, you know, sometimes it would clear up and it would just be dead.
00:04:05
Speaker
There'd be nobody there. So, and that's, I'm kind of hoping, cause that's the thing. If it doesn't rain, if it's not overcast, it's probably going to be busy tomorrow. Right. Because it it's like the first day of good weather that we've had quite long time. People will be chomping at the bit to get out and do something like how you are Exactly. So I guess it's a 50, 50 shot, whether yeah it's busy or not busy for you. Yeah.
00:04:28
Speaker
And we don't, it's not like we do like the, their version of fast pass there because a, it's super expensive and you know, B usually don't need it, you know? Yeah. um I mean, we usually don't wait more than 15 minutes for anything, but it is funny how, ah you know, and, and I don't know if this change came. i don't want to,
00:04:46
Speaker
claim that Disney made this happen across

Dynamic Pricing and Merchandise

00:04:49
Speaker
the industry. Cause I, I don't know if, if six flags and Cedar fair and and the, all the, you know, those independent ones were doing this beforehand, but I noticed the last time was like heroines that if you go in their app, they are doing pretty much the exact same thing that Disney's doing now, where they have the pass that you can buy that, you know, gets you in all the rides or you can buy individual rides. Um,
00:05:13
Speaker
to skip the line. so And and it it seems like the price varies by day. It just feels too close to what Disney's doing for me to think that it wasn't influenced by them. but I mean, it that model was not exclusive to Disney before Disney started. People have been figuring out dynamic pricing for years.
00:05:31
Speaker
And yeah, but the the thing is, is, yeah, the smaller places won't do it until they see like, yeah, exactly that. You know, someone like Disney is doing it and they're making they're making bank doing it. So, you know, it's it's easier to get other people to get on board with it when they they have a comparison point. Right. Yeah, yeah exactly. so By the way, i I just posted this in the Discord, and I will, you know, maybe I'll post this in the Facebook page or or something maybe in the on the show or something.
00:05:59
Speaker
um But my wife got me an anniversary gift. trevor I did see this. Did you see this? yeah Yeah. So, you know, kudos to my wife for picking a really excellent anniversary gift for me, which is...
00:06:12
Speaker
I've talked about a lot of on this show about the one shirt that I have that's my favorite Disney shirt, which is, I will call it Muppets Haunted Mansion, which is it's the stretch room paintings from the Haunted Mansion, but with Muppets characters.
00:06:24
Speaker
My wife found me one on the internet that is the same concept, is the but it's the stretch room paintings, but with figment. All figments. Which is ah it's a weird intersection of those two rides that you'd like...
00:06:39
Speaker
where when it's like that's cool but then we also think about it it's like it is odd but it's awesome though yeah i do love that the third one ah the tombstone yeah yeah calls out dream finder you friends yeah yeah because the third one with the tombstone it says dream finder and it has the beginning and end date for dream finder yeah which is sad but you know yeah but maybe maybe someday dream finder will come back from the grave you know what it's it's always possible right i mean they seem to be re-epcotting epcot right so but i mean that's what it feels like right it feels like they've been you know with the new test track and and uh
00:07:20
Speaker
but I mean, man, i' ive I've actually reduced to like the the main like future used to be future world. I can't remember what they call it now. It's community. or Yeah. yeah Communicore.
00:07:34
Speaker
yeah i I always forget. that They call them like communities. or or they They change the name. Neighborhoods? neighborhood neighborhoods yeah yeah Yeah. That's the one thing that bugs me. is that it's like They change them? When you change the names, i can't like adopt the new name.
00:07:49
Speaker
which it's, it's the same problem as like, like Hollywood studios. It took me a long time to stop calling Hollywood yeah studios MGM. Yeah. I think I, I think I've, I mean, I've joked about on the show before that I still call it MGM, but I really don't. I mean, it's, that's, it's been a long time. I mean, what was that? 15 years ago, maybe at least.
00:08:08
Speaker
Yeah. I said it, but, but it's something like the, the Epcot area is still sticking your head the same way though. Right. Like it's, Like, oh, that's Future World. Well, no, it's it's Celebration Neighborhood or something.
00:08:22
Speaker
don't remember. Yeah. Yeah, no. i Wow. Okay, so let's see. The park's current name took effect in 2008. That was close. 17 years. So that was close.
00:08:33
Speaker
was That was right around that. So we have a good 20 years before we have to actually stop calling... Places in Epcot, whatever we used to call them. Whatever we used to call them, yeah. yeah um Yeah, what was I going to just talk about? Yeah, so that was that was ah that was a pretty cool shirt, I have to say. it was Yeah, Figment Haunted Mansion.
00:08:50
Speaker
You know what this is leading into, right? it's a problem i'm buying all the shirts that are all sorts of different versions of this shirt yeah i mean that that's exactly it is that yeah now what other variations of haunted mansion stretching room shirt can you get i'm gonna i'm gonna start looking now i feel like this is becoming a thing for me you you have to start a collection now if you have to that's the start of a collection That was my wife's idea was to start a collection to make this like a thing. And I mean, like, listen, i I would be interested to see if I got more cast member comments from the Muppet one or from the figment one, because i feel like the figment one is going to get a lot of, a lot of attention. Not that the Muppet one wouldn't, right? Because the Muppet one, I get, I mean, I have so many cast members comment on it, but man, the figment one, i don't know.
00:09:43
Speaker
That one probably get a lot too, I feel like. i Again, I feel that, I mean, the thing about Figma is that you there's two parks you can easily wear that in and get reactions to.
00:09:53
Speaker
oh yeah. I mean, that that's not to say the cast members don't pay attention to what's in either park, but you you can wear it in both Epcot and Magic Kingdom, and I think you will get equally like yeah good reactions to it.
00:10:08
Speaker
Yeah, I would agree with that. I would agree. Oh, what I was going to say was that we were talking about the new, you know, like all the new stuff at Epcot. And i I've been reading ah Disney blog reviews of the new Test Track, even some of the super negative

Unconventional Sports at Disney

00:10:20
Speaker
ones. And I've seen at least two say that it's actually their favorite version of Test Track, which I was pretty shocked by because so many people are so nostalgic for the original, you know?
00:10:29
Speaker
So i would I was surprised that anybody would say that the newest one was their favorite. I feel like... you know The interesting thing is is that the so the original version yeah definitely for me too lives in like you know that was that was an amazing iteration of the ride.
00:10:47
Speaker
The second version of the ride just didn't didn't click at all. like it It felt very just whatever, right? But everything I've seen about the new version of the ride, it feels like an upgraded version of the original, meaning that, you know, it's following the same thing of like, hey, teaching you about like, you know, cars and technology within cars and stuff like that, which is kind of what the first one was doing. Right.
00:11:11
Speaker
Yeah. So it's yeah so it it only makes sense that people look and go, oh, you know, this is like the original one. But, you know, ah you know, talking about it in more current terms. Yeah. Why would that ever be worse?
00:11:22
Speaker
Like.
00:11:25
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. I totally agree. i i I'm just glad that they nailed it. you know That's that's yeah always exciting, right? um this first topic i'm not even sure why i put this on here maybe it just made me laugh to myself and i just needed to we just need to talk about it so so what is okay what what is this that okay so let's start with the title okay so so all the title says is espn 8 which uh you'll have to refresh me on what espn 8 is i don't keep it's not a real thing it's a fake thing they do once a year okay
00:11:58
Speaker
It says the Ocho to bring dodgeball, pillow fighting, and more to Walt Disney World. Like this. Okay. So you i do you not remember the movie Dodgeball where they made they were broadcasting the dodgeball game on ESPN 8, the Ocho, right? So that was a joke on dodgeball that ESPN made into a real thing.
00:12:18
Speaker
And like once a year, they make a fake channel called ESPN 8, the Ocho, and they make they start showing weird sports. And okay it interestingly enough, they do this most years. And these events usually actually take place down the road for me in South Carolina.
00:12:34
Speaker
But it looks like Disney has now just been like, hey, how about you do all this stuff at Wide World of Sports? um So I guess says i so. OK, I was going to say.
00:12:45
Speaker
So, first of all, admittedly, I don't remember in detail the movie Dodgeball. So I wasn't thinking about it. I know. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I mean, I Back then, basketball was more my speech than dodgeball. So dodgeball, yeah, that's fine. But yeah, I think this does speak to the fact that there's clearly not a lot going on at the ESPN wide world of sports. No, this is actually cool, though, because this has become a thing. It is.
00:13:16
Speaker
I mean, I will admit this is this is the kind of sports that I would watch. That's why I put it on there because I was like, Trevor doesn't like sports, but he would watch all this ridiculousness because yes it's insane.
00:13:27
Speaker
i The thing that got me was I want to understand what a combination of archery and dodgeball means. Like, what is that? Oh, I think that...
00:13:40
Speaker
I've seen something like this where... Called extreme archery. Yeah, so you so you have bows, but the ends are like like foam ball tips. so So you're having to pick up... like so you can't just throw a dodgeball. You have to pick up and like knock an arrow and shoot it.
00:13:56
Speaker
which just That just seems nuts. Who came up with that ridiculous? like Some people are very good at that. so Okay. yeah Well, there's also the slippery stairs, which if you've never watched the slippery stairs, slippery stairs are hilarious.
00:14:07
Speaker
right. ah so So Slippery Stairs originated in Japan, believe it or not. okay And so I've seen the Japanese versions of that, which, again, is just hilarious. Because, yeah. it's Yeah, like I said, they used to do this guy like maybe a half hour from where I live. like That's where the event used to take place. I don't know why they were doing it in Rock Hill, South Carolina, which is...
00:14:30
Speaker
Like I said, it's like a half hour from here. and i But now, obviously, they moved it to ESPN. But yeah, so they have kickball. They have electronic darts, which I'm not 100% sure I understand what electronic darts are. How is that different than regular darts? I don't know.
00:14:43
Speaker
Don't know. um Paintball is fun. Wiffle ball is interesting as well. yeah um I've watched bits and pieces of wiffle ball. It's amazing.
00:14:55
Speaker
that The way they curve a wiffle ball is insane. Like, yeah, again, fun to watch. I don't know what a mega ball is though. It's, it's soccer, but with three teams and three goals, I actually ah was at a sports bar like a couple of weeks ago. um and, and saw one of these games on, on television. And I was like, what is happening?
00:15:17
Speaker
Cause it's, it's absurd. Three, uh, three sided that. Okay. That, that piques my interest. Yeah. It's nuts. Dude, it's nuts. I don't even know how it works. I watched it and i was like, I don't know what's happening here, but this is nuts.
00:15:32
Speaker
um So it's funny, though. We're actually kind of late to this news because this already happened. Like they these events already. So, OK. So I assume this is recorded somewhere that you can watch it. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So you should go watch it.
00:15:44
Speaker
But I guess if you were at Disney World, you could go and do this. Oh, they also have pillow fighting, too. yeah Yeah, yeah. You miss pillow fighting. like I don't know how I miss pillow fighting. How could you miss watching pillow fighting on TV?
00:15:56
Speaker
You know what I'm surprised is not on here is tag, because tag has become like an actual sport. Yeah, I've watched tag is serious business. like Yes, yeah. But how do they not have that on here?
00:16:08
Speaker
That's shocking to me. That feels like it should be. its Maybe it's too high up in the echelon of. It's too real now. It's too real of a sport. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, I mean, I mean, yeah, yeah yeah you know, the I was initially skeptical when you put this on here. i was like, why why? are we talking about this? But I see the logic now. You get it now. You get it now, right?
00:16:31
Speaker
And yeah. Yeah. And yeah, you know, you know, it's like you said, it you know, it's a good use of while wide roll of the sports, I guess. I guess they probably knew that, yeah, there wasn't, you know, a lot going on in I guess in the summer. And now that I think about it, there is this a dead sports time. That's the dead. flight So, so I guess that is a good way to fill the time. And, and yeah, you know, these are, these are just entertaining to watch on TV kind of things that, uh, um,
00:16:57
Speaker
Yeah, that's that's actually i would have missed that if you didn't bring this up. Now you can maybe find a replay somewhere. the the one i would I'll check this weekend because we have we have time now since we're not recording the podcast tomorrow. Maybe I'll spend some time big go looking up looking up ah extreme archery. I want to know how pillow fighting is is is scored. Like, is there, like, how does that work? like fencing, maybe? Is it? I don't know.
00:17:26
Speaker
Because fencing like you count, like, solid hits, right? like Yeah. Yeah. I guess is there. so So here's the other question, too, is, you know, in official rules, are headshots okay? Because, like, don't know about you, but when I used to have, like, pillow fights when I was a kid, like,
00:17:42
Speaker
there hit a point where everyone had to agree that like headshots were off limits because, You could take somebody out with a good headshot. Dude, I just pulled up a video of this and it's hilarious. I have to say i have to send you this because this is but it's more ridiculous than I thought it could be.
00:18:04
Speaker
And i I don't even... i Yeah. but okay We're going to watch this on the side while we continue on the show. So if I start laughing...
00:18:15
Speaker
randomly know why i it's just it's i i don't even know how to describe oh wow okay they're they're like full-on in a boxing ring they're in a boxing ring and they have these like almost they're like pillows that have like hand straps on them yeah and they're just beating the heck out of each other It reminds me of when I was a kid, and i don't I don't know if this was your time or not, Trevor, with the soccer, what was it, soccer bopums or whatever? or that yeah so Yeah. Yeah, but yeah. Remember, they were like they were like, yeah. They knocked each other out. Okay, headshots are on the table.
00:18:54
Speaker
Oh, my God. Oh, that double KO is amazing. ah he just if you Just Google this. if you i mean Wow. Okay, that that that was great for a laugh. 100% worth it, right? Yeah. I know this isn't really strictly Disney news, but it was happening at Disney World. No, no. no Listen. It's happening on Disney property. So i think it's fair to talk.
00:19:18
Speaker
It's still Disney news. We we don't always talk about ESPN stuff, but that's because like you said, you know, I'm not, I'm not a sports guy. I don't, you know, yeah I fully admit it. I'm just not into sports, but this is meeting that intersection of,
00:19:31
Speaker
Weird enough. yeah we were Weird and and silly enough that I'll watch it. Dude, I, they were just, they were, I mean, the best part is there was it like you said, it was a, it was a dual KO at the same time.
00:19:43
Speaker
They yeah both hit each other in the head simultaneously. That almost seemed planned. Like it did. Right. It did. It filled, it filled rigged. It filled rig. It felt rig. don't know. I don't know why I can't speak right, but um yeah. ah Amazing.
00:19:58
Speaker
Yeah, it's just amazing. Excellent. I would have gone to see this live. It's funny because all the times I've been at Disney World, I've never gone to Wild World of Sports. Now, given there was no reason for me to, right? Like I'm not going to cheer competitions or anything, you know, so there's no reason for me to be there.
00:20:17
Speaker
But, ah you know, I don't know. It seems like a cool area of the of you know of the property. i I would like to check it out one time, but i I guess I just need a thing to go and see there. Maybe they'll do more of this kind of stuff if there's enough reception. Yeah, right yeah absolutely. yeah Let's do that.
00:20:33
Speaker
I want to go. want to go. So, okay. right Anyway. um So, you have some Disney Cruise Line stuff on here. i do have some Disney Cruise Line stuff.
00:20:44
Speaker
I will talk about it just because like I know... i get it. like you know This is something you and your family do. It's just not... like you can' thing though I do cruises. I know you're not doing about it. yeah But you'll still find this stuff cool, though. I wouldn't put it on here if I didn't think you'd find it interesting.
00:21:01
Speaker
Right? Okay. I appreciate that. That is fair. So, this the the reason why we're talking about this is because Disney provided an update on the Hercules show. Right? That they're doing.
00:21:12
Speaker
Right? And, first of all, Hercules is an excellent show to be have to have on the ship. First of all, because of how great the music is. Right. And the character, like it's a perfect show. for It's a Broadway show. It's, it's, it is, it is just a Broadway show. like Yeah. Yeah. But dude, I look at this, the second link I sent you, which is showing,
00:21:32
Speaker
the puppets that they're using. up But we've seen, we saw a preview of the, uh, what was the Hydra puppet, right? Yeah. Now we're getting one of the Titans, yeah one of the Titans of the underworld.
00:21:43
Speaker
And listen, that I have been skeptical that the concept art of this show is going to live up to real life. Right. Right. But based on this look, man, this is... These are serious.
00:21:55
Speaker
Dude. Yeah. Like, this puppet is huge. These have to stand, like, 12 or 15 feet tall, at least. They do. Yeah. And there's a performer inside them. And and so what they're with this article is saying, that it's that exoskeleton technology that they...
00:22:12
Speaker
that Disney has, that that Imagineering has talked about before that they they use for the Hulk at a California Adventure. So there's one person standing in it, but and but they're standing like 10 feet tall. They're on like stilts and they have like arm extensions and stuff. But they have mobility and stuff too, you know?
00:22:30
Speaker
i mean, dude, i if if this show looks... if this show looks halfway as cool as the kind and the concept art is, it's goingnna be it's going to be awesome. Right? Like... Yeah, I mean, it's... Yeah, like you said, you know, it's it's something that I hope... yeah You know, the cruise lines get, like, their own things, and that's fine, but there's nothing saying that they can't...
00:22:57
Speaker
like the They do stage shows like this, right? At Hollywood Studios in California, they they do stuff like this at the Hyperion. Or not or like they have a show at the Hyperion. But yeah, like i I hope that if these things are received well enough on the cruise ships, that you know maybe I will get to see them off the cruise ships. Exactly. That's yeah, exactly. Exactly.
00:23:21
Speaker
i mean, listen, I, the, the Hercules, whatever you think about Hercules as a movie, the music in that, the songs in that, in that movie are fantastic, right? Like great songs. So that that's why it's so great for, you know, for a show.
00:23:36
Speaker
i mean, listen, I've, I've joked about this before, but it's true that Disney is completely and totally incapable of creating a nighttime show that doesn't involve go the distance.

Disney Cruise Line and Special Events

00:23:43
Speaker
Yeah. Like literally every nighttime show has go the distance. Yeah. Every single one.
00:23:47
Speaker
and And it hits every time. It does. Like, that's the thing is that it, yeah like even, even in halfway ever after, like where they put it, it's like, it just hits you. Right. And it's like, yeah.
00:24:00
Speaker
So, so yeah, so yeah that I mean, that does speak to like Hercules as a show. Like you said, it has, it has just fantastically scored music. And so why would you not do a stage show of it?
00:24:12
Speaker
exactly Exactly. Exactly. And then again, it gives them further chance to show off. Like this is, um this is like next level puppeteering and like, like nobody's doing this. This is, this is like, like the you know, Disney is definitely, they're pushing it with shows like this.
00:24:29
Speaker
Yeah. They're doing this. ah By the way, the rehearsals are in Canada. Look at that. So. Hmm. wonder why. I don't know, but I'm pretty sure they do all of the rehearsals in Toronto. rehearsals in toronto I don't know why, because i oh but I seem to remember when I watched the one for the Treasure that they did them in Toronto as well.
00:24:47
Speaker
that That actually makes sense because there is a very big performing arts area in Toronto. Oh, okay. Well, it makes sense. yeah they're They're probably leveraging the fact that there's a lot of talent and a lot of people and like facilities and stuff in Toronto that they can make use of.
00:25:04
Speaker
Yeah, okay. That makes sense. All right. Well, let's so let's go ahead and do our ad. The sponsor of this episode is DVC Resale Market. 00:25:54
Speaker
So more Halloween stuff, Trevor. I don't know how good you are. I know we're still far out here, we got more Halloween. So we talked about Christmas last week. Let's talk about Halloween. Now we're to Halloween. Yeah. You know, it's August. And I know that, like, not so scary Halloween party is starting up in two weeks.
00:26:10
Speaker
Yeah. like like we're We're two weeks out on it starting. So... fair you know I guess it is it is it is coming up it still feels weird to talk about Halloween stuff in August because I'm not I enjoy Halloween like like don't get me wrong I enjoy Halloween but I enjoy Halloween starting from October 1st.
00:26:29
Speaker
So this feels a lot. The parties start August 15th. So a couple more weeks here. It's funny because my sister-in-law had decided that they were going to take a trip ah without us, which is cool.
00:26:41
Speaker
Like, that's fine with me. its I was like, what? You guys don't want to get free rooms? Like, and, you know, have it your have the DVC rooms? But, you know. You don't want to have the advantage? That's fine. It's it's cool. No, it's cool. can stand in line with everybody else.
00:26:53
Speaker
Yeah. um But anyway, they had asked us, you know, they had texted Karen and, you know, Karen yelled to me from the other room, um you know, do she's asking if you think what they should do the Halloween party. And I was like, you know, her kids are, i want to say five and three.
00:27:13
Speaker
and I was like, I don't think so. that' Yeah. yeah I was like, what time do they go to bed? And she was like, you know, pretty early. And I was like, you know, the party doesn't start to like seven. So if they're not going to stay up long past seven, then it's not worth Right. Yeah. You're you're missing like you you want them to stay up for the parade. You want them to be able to go around and do stuff, which, yeah, if if they're going to bed really early, that's.
00:27:37
Speaker
I mean, you're you're just going to have a meltdown partway through if you're trying to keep them up late. So, yeah. Yeah. And and that's, you know, kind of what I said. I was like, i would wait because I mean, listen, we waited to do the Christmas party and, you know, it's it's hopeful. And I still don't know how that's even going to go. So we're going to we're going find out.
00:27:53
Speaker
oh my but You know, the first time we did the Halloween party with my son, he was nine. Okay. And again, my our experience with that was so he was old enough that you know he was he was down for it because it was it was a lot. you know you know he would you know One, he got to stay up later because he was hitting that point where you know you know kids want to do that.
00:28:15
Speaker
And so we were letting them stay up later. But then also... um He he understood he was better able to take in everything that was happening. Like it wasn't all quite so overwhelming. because And I think it also helped, too, that um we didn't make it our first trip.
00:28:32
Speaker
Right. Like, I think this is something people need to think about. It's like, oh, I'm going to go to Disney. And, know, I haven't been to Disney with my kids, but we're going to do, know, we're going to the parks we're going to do the Halloween party. It's like that's a lot. That's a lot.
00:28:43
Speaker
Like like you're you're asking your kids to absorb that. a lot of different things. And, and you you know, not to say the kids won't, but it it can be overwhelming. well And that's why, you know, like even for the, you know, for us doing the the Christmas party, we are not going to go to the parks that day, right? Like we're going to, we're just going to show up for the party. We're going to show up at four o'clock, you know, when you can get in, but we're not going to do the parks for the rest of the day because I feel like my daughter would be exhausted.
00:29:12
Speaker
So, and I'm going to like encourage all of us to take a nap, you know what I mean? Or like make it a pool day, right? Like just, you know, hang out at the pool, relax. And then, you know, Well, we're not even staying, though. we're not Because we're going to be my mom's, and she's an hour and a half away. So, so yeah yeah, you're just going to drive in in the afternoon kind of thing. yeah Yeah.
00:29:29
Speaker
Yeah. Trevor, can I suggest something? Can I make a suggestion? All right. How about a mini food time episode? Mini. Just to talk about Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween food food party.
00:29:41
Speaker
I mean, party food. Okay. We can do a mini one. Yeah? Okay. Look, I'll just play the theme song for two seconds. Ready?
00:29:51
Speaker
Okay, there you go. All right. It's mini. You just you just get the just the beginning of the theme song. That's all you get. We need to get somebody who does like a good Minnie Mouse voice. if de For a mini... Mini food time. yeah yeah Yeah. Since there's not a lot of news today, let's i mean and we don't have time to do a food time, and we're talking about the Halloween party. Let's talk about this Halloween food. Okay, Halloween parties, too, don't have a ton on the menu anyway. They don't. That's true.
00:30:20
Speaker
That is true. right. You want to do merch first? You want to do food? ah Let's do the food first. Okay. Let's do food first because we like talking food. So yeah this is for the foodie guide for the mickey nott so scar Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Halloween Foods at Disney

00:30:34
Speaker
um you know There's a lot of new stuff, actually. ton of new stuff. So um we'll go down first to the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor for the Pumpkin Sundae, which is a new item.
00:30:45
Speaker
Pumpkin Gelato with Pumpkin Spice Caramel Sauce, Pumpkin Brittle, and Halloween Sprinkles. There's too much pumpkin there ah for my You said pumpkin an awful lot. I said pumpkin several times. And you know how I feel about pumpkin, Trevor. I'm not a fan.
00:31:01
Speaker
Yeah. i like I like pumpkin spice. I don't like pumpkin. Is there even a picture of this on here? I don't is. don't think there... Unless it's the one... No, it's not the one with the ghosts in it. It's not the the ghosts in it. Is it this one up top here, maybe? Yeah.
00:31:14
Speaker
No, that's Main Street. but No, never mind. No, there's no picture of this one. There's no picture. I don't know why. ah But yeah, because all these are from the Plaza. So yeah, we don't get that one. But we do get the Plaza restaurant, which has a pumpkin spice coffee barbecue pork sandwich.
00:31:31
Speaker
Coffee rubbed pork. Good. Sorry. So this is not pumpkin. No. Pumpkin spice. I would be down for this. Although... You also run into a coffee problem. I don't like the taste of coffee.
00:31:43
Speaker
ah and although if they Even eat in that like a pork rub? Really? yeah See, that's the thing. On pork, I think I'd be okay. But is you know but this is Joffrey's pumpkin cream creme brulee coffee seasonal blend.
00:31:56
Speaker
Cold brew barbecue sauce. It sounds like you'd be wired, man. Instead of a Red Bull, you'd just have this. Yeah, I've never thought of cold brew being used to make a barbecue sauce before. That's crazy. but Yeah. And slaw with a pumpkin spiced aioli on a purple sweet potato bun.
00:32:13
Speaker
which that is That is very Halloween looking, I will say. Okay, so I was originally going to jump on the bun for like, you know, okay, they're doing the dyed stuff again, but it's it's a purple sweet potato.
00:32:26
Speaker
Meaning that that's actually the color that it is. So this one actually gets a pass because because they're not like, they're not doing the like horrendous like blue or black dye that they do. Not like the mozzarella stick over at Disneyland.
00:32:41
Speaker
Yeah, I will say that, um like you said, you know, it's a lot of it's a lot of pumpkin spice. It is, yeah. Which, like, don't get me wrong, I like pumpkin spice, but I feel like if the slaw and the pork and like everything is just like hitting you with pumpkin spice, that might be too much.
00:33:01
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I agree. Yeah. By the way, all of these items at ah the Plaza are available during regular park hours and the Halloween party. So not everything is available during both, but we we'll, we'll tell you which are are, which are, yeah, are available and are not ah during regular times. Right.
00:33:18
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. So let's talk about the skull meatloaf. Skull meatloaf. Okay. Hey, you know what? Okay. I love this. you? Okay. You love it? Like full stop.
00:33:29
Speaker
This is awesome. Just based on the presentation. Yeah. The presentation is pretty great. meat I mean, I don't, meatloaf is good for starters. And this is a Caribbean style glazed meatloaf, which I don't know what that means, but I'm assuming it means lots of good spice in it.
00:33:42
Speaker
I would think so. um With loaded mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, they're this is reminding me of the food I had at Doss Steakhouse, which like had that, like, it it gives that impression. And, and it, yeah like it, it, it, so, so the thing is, is that that, you know, the impression of the food when it comes out matters as much as when you're eating it because, because it is part of the whole experience, right? Like this, this comes out and this, the fact that the meatloaf is shaped like a skull and they've like, they've, uh,
00:34:12
Speaker
put like a sauce on it. They made it look like yeah bloody kind of. Yeah. yeah and And it's kind of like, it's like, uh, it's like slightly charred and everything. yeah yeah Like it's, it's cool. Like, like that's a Halloween, um dish.
00:34:25
Speaker
Like that's, that is great. And more of that, please. Then there's the ghostly delight sundae, chocolate ice cream topped with chocolate cookie crumbs, marshmallow cream, almond sugar cookies, and sprinkles. The sugar cookies look like ghosts.
00:34:39
Speaker
Listen, basic sundae, but, you know, Halloween. Yeah. yeah and And I mean, yeah, the sugar cookies are not, like again, you you know, they're not cheaping out with the little, like, printed, you know, rice paper whatever. These are legit.
00:34:53
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, again, looks good. Gets a pass. i How are you on this, Trevor? I'm not a hard cookie fan. I like a soft cookie. So I don't love. Yeah, I don't love a good hard cookie. And that looks like a hard cookie. That looks like I'm going to make a sound when I bite it.
00:35:09
Speaker
Yeah, the thing is, is that it I think for me, it really depends. Like these have icing on them. It really depends on if the icing is just like straight sugar or if it has a little bit of something to it. Like it if yeah if it has, I'm you're like you. Yeah, I don't necessarily. I tend to or my favorite cookie is a um ah ginger molasses cookies because they're those are so like they they're probably hard, right?
00:35:35
Speaker
No, no, they're soft. it's Oh, they are. Ginger molasses cookies are soft. And like, you know, they've got the the spicy ginger flavor and all that. The thing is, is that if this is just like dough with sugar, um yeah, that's that's a no for me.
00:35:51
Speaker
get it. But again, presentation wise, though, I would, you know, I would still be okay with it because you get you get a Sunday. And, you know, if the if the cookies are eh, like it's still a Sunday, right? Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah.
00:36:06
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. i There is ah so this is... This is interesting. um So then we're going to go down to to Casey's, right? there's There's only one new thing at Casey's.
00:36:19
Speaker
yeah These are all repeats. These are all repeats. However... I don't remember talking about these last year because I want to eat all these. They basically just did ah barbecue pork, Chipotle barbecue core ah pork and street corn.
00:36:31
Speaker
And they did it on fries. They did it on hot dog and they did it on mini corn dogs. All of them look delicious to me, which I love street corn. that That is the smartest way to do it is, you know, yeah you don't you don't have to or you know, you can get it any way you want. You know, if like I would probably go for the fries over the the hot dog. It's maybe a hot mess to eat it, right? Like the fries, at least you're expecting it to be a hot mess.
00:36:54
Speaker
Yeah. Like I know I'm getting a fork and I'm just like yeah plowing through that. But we need to talk about the candy corn vereen. but yeah So I don't know if I've ever had a varine before.
00:37:06
Speaker
I feel like I have probably at Disney, actually, because I don't know where I would usually get varines. Right. I mean, so so here's the weird intersection of this. OK, so first of all, the candy corn varine is layers of salted caramel ganache, marshmallow panna cotta and whipped cream topped with caramel corn and candy corn.
00:37:23
Speaker
So it looks like candy corn. It's the colors of the candy corn. So salted caramel, you know, you know so that. Yeah. Candy corn or sorry, candy ah caramel corn, like salted flavors with whipped cream and all that good so far.
00:37:38
Speaker
But then you bring the candy corn into it. so was it There are people that love candy corn. My wife loves candy corn. What's your opinion on candy corn, Tom? My opinion on candy corn is neutral.
00:37:51
Speaker
If it's in front of me and I want something sweet, I'll throw some of my mouth. I'm not like it's not my favorite candy. It's not my go-to, but I will eat it. I don't dislike it. I actually do like the taste of it. It's just not my favorite Halloween candy.
00:38:05
Speaker
Okay. So as far as sugar delivery systems go, um candy corn is one of my least favorites. Would you eat it though?
00:38:17
Speaker
No, I don't. i i've Every time I've tried candy corn, it's a combination of like the texture of it and whatever they're using to... flavor it, it just doesn't, I don't know. it It like, it never sits well with me. Like I always feel like after I mean it does eat it.
00:38:35
Speaker
So it does have the mouthfeel of eating a candle. I mean, it does. Yeah. feel yeah Yeah. It's, it's that waxy kind of, kind of yeah thing to it. And so I'm looking at this, like, you know, they've got this nice cup of like, you know, Oh, it's like a, it's beautiful. You know, really you know, like a creme brulee kind of thing, but then the candy corn colors and the candy corn on top make me go,
00:38:54
Speaker
Ew, I don't want you like that. You just flick those off. and then you yeah but But then the rest of it, I'm i'm like imagining it being like a giant candy corn. I'm not there for it, man. now i You know what? I don't blame you. i feel like I understand.
00:39:09
Speaker
and i mean i just I just don't hate it. I just think it's fine. just it's just Yeah. it's And I get that it's like a Halloween staple. I just wish that... like Find other things to make Halloween treats out of. Yeah, I get it. I get it.
00:39:25
Speaker
What about this? and This is not a new item, but at least Aloha Isle over here during the the Halloween party. We're getting the mango dole whip back, which I love. But with with the chili lime seasoning and what is that? How do you say that? Chamoy?
00:39:39
Speaker
Chamoy, yeah. Yeah. and Okay. It looks kind of gross to me. I'm not going lie. but Yeah, that the chamoy is very dark yeah and like kind of... Yeah, it I mean, it again, it fits Halloween. You know, it's got that like orange and black thing going on with it. But I mean, I love mango is like one of my favorites. So I can't wait for us to get to the next item, Trevor.
00:40:01
Speaker
all right we We're at Golden Oak now. yeah cajun crawfish and sausage boutine instead of poutine it's it's not well ok it's not poutine yeah it's poutine it's poutine yeah it's poutine it's not poutine and it's also what good you want to read it since yeah so so okay so so so you know let let's talk about horror yeah I would eat this if it wasn't for the crawfish. The the rest of it looks good to me. Let's talk about poutine horror here because you're defiling poutine. but You start with waffle fries of all things.
00:40:33
Speaker
That sounds awesome for poutine, man. No, no, you no you need to straight cut fries. You don't need waffle fries. So waffle fries with Cajun inspired crawfish and Dooley sausage gravy and cheese curds. So, okay. So they have cheese curds.
00:40:48
Speaker
They got cheese curds. So this is the thing is that, that they did actually tick all the boxes for basic poutine because it is fries It is gravy and it is cheese curds. um The crawfish on the side, you know, putting crawfish in with your poutine, fair game. like Like people do add stuff to the poutine, but yeah they're at least starting with the basics.
00:41:08
Speaker
um Okay. As far as andouille sausage gravy goes, i mean, I don't know. Like I usually like like a good dumb like chicken gravy. on my poutine so i'm sure this will work and i'm sure like this will be good i give this a closer pass to poutine than a lot of other things and they wow okay so yeah yeah i've always heard that there's a there's like a chain restaurant up by you guys that's like just a bunch of different varieties of poutine and it just sounds like heaven to me like i just want to go there oh where i mean i forget i forget what it's called i just i i've just heard of it i don't know where though
00:41:43
Speaker
I mean, there's there's a bunch of places that do poutines. I don't know which one you're talking about. I have to look it up because I don't remember. i just Someone sent it to me one time and i'm like and and sent me the menu and I was like, I want to go there and eat all of that.
00:41:57
Speaker
Oh, I think I know the one you're talking about and it's actually not near me. There's there's one in Ontario. Is it Smokes? Yeah. Poutinerie? Is that what it is? Okay. Yeah, which I think is in Ontario, if that's the one I'm thinking of.
00:42:11
Speaker
Dude, I just i love poutines, though. We're getting off topic here. but Yeah, I know. I know. Sorry. But yeah, listen, if the craw if the crawfish wasn't in there, I'd be all about this. so ah But yeah, so then we have beignets from beyond, which are light, sweet, fluffy beignets with powdered sugar, chocolate cookie crumbs served with cookies and cream cheese dipping sauce. So these are just basically cookies and cream beignets. Cookies...
00:42:35
Speaker
ah Okay, it's bugging me how they combine cookies and cream and cream cheese together. Why? Oh, because can't eat it then. No, no, no. no no i but like that yeah There's that. But also, like, cookies and cream is one thing.
00:42:49
Speaker
And cream cheese is something else. Yeah, yeah. Right? and But they're going like cookies and cream cheese. Like, it's... yeah That's breaking my brain a little bit. well Yeah. hopingpping yeah and By the way, these are all of these items are only available during the party. so And then we usually don't talk drinks, by the way, but there's a non-alcoholic. There's a hot honey lemonade, which I've never heard of adding hot honey to lemonade. but Yeah. so So hot honey has been the the latest thing. Yeah. Right. Yeah.
00:43:16
Speaker
right Does it need to go in lemonade? I mean, it's adding it's adding spice to it, which is not like... you know Adding a little bit of spice to your lemonade is... Yeah. yeah because I can see this being tasty.
00:43:30
Speaker
Yeah. This is one of these things that like when you initially read it, you're like, ooh, why would I want that? But then you think about it for a minute and it's like, okay, yeah, maybe. it yeah And the chili lime rim as well. like like Again, that that speaks to... like um Like that's, that's usually on alcoholic drinks. Yeah, it is. Yeah.
00:43:50
Speaker
So it's going to be like, like, yeah, it has that like spicy, spicy little bit of salty added to your lemonade. I think that you're right. That'll actually make it better. Yeah.
00:44:01
Speaker
So, yeah. Well, let's hop on over to Pecos Bill for some exclusive ones for the party. We got buzzard wings, which are whole chicken wings tossed with grilled onions, jalapenos, and lime. These are a new item. The presentation on these is pretty good. i They look very large, like very large wings, but yeah so I don't know. You're yeah getting the full...
00:44:20
Speaker
Yeah. Chicken wing. You're getting the full thing. and They also have pumpkin pie mini churros, which, okay. I mean, they're rolled in orange sugar and served with pumpkin pie dipping sauce.
00:44:32
Speaker
You know, I'm out on that, but, you know, more power to you. Yeah. that They seem, you know, mini churros. I like mini churros, though. I like mini churros.
00:44:44
Speaker
Yeah, i I don't like them as much as much as I like full-size churros, though. oh yeah yeah that's true That's true. I feel like therere and feel like the sugar to dough ratio is too high. Okay, that's fair. You get what I'm saying, right? Yeah, I do. I do. Yeah.
00:44:59
Speaker
I do. I get it. yeah it's i mean but and yeah Pumpkin sauce. hot yeah i mean like you or Unlike you, i don't I wouldn't care if it's pumpkin pie dipping sauce. I don't know if this is one that I would yeah go for. It seems a little eh.
00:45:14
Speaker
yeah They do have a chocolate caramel tart too, which is not new, but it is very cool looking. It's got a cool little tombstone in it and looks delicious. let's ah Let's go to a Sleepy Hollow next. which Again, these are exclusive.
00:45:27
Speaker
Yeah, this is exclusive. So we have a creepy kimchi corn dog, which I'm betting you're not eating. Nope, but you're going to eat. But listen to this, everyone.
00:45:37
Speaker
Hand-dipped corn dog. So, you know, we're good so far. Rolled in malt vinegar. I love malt vinegar. So I'm still on board. yeah Scallions with Hades relish and kimchi mayonnaise dipping sauce.
00:45:50
Speaker
So this thing is spicy. It's pretty cool looking. It's good. Spicy. Yeah, it's it's cool looking. Yeah. Yeah. it's that it's that Hades relish on there. That's giving it that. that doing a Yeah. But very interesting.
00:46:03
Speaker
but Like I was I actually did not have kimchi on the list of things that I was expecting to see at ah Disney Park. So they've done kimchi before. No.
00:46:15
Speaker
i If they have, it hasn't been obvious to me because I like kimchi is usually like I i like kimchi. My wife can vouch for this. I buy kimchi from the from the grocery store and just eat it because I like kimchi.
00:46:29
Speaker
yeah And so, yeah, like this would be like, oh, yeah, you know, kimchi and a corn dog. Sure. Let's go. And the malt vinegar. but My wife hates the fact that I like malt vinegar as well.
00:46:40
Speaker
Oh, really? she She doesn't like the smell of it. It's, fair you know, mulvinger. Yeah, it's it's it's strong. It's a strong smell. That's an acquired taste, mulvinger. It is, but but it goes very well on on un well and fried fish and chips.
00:46:53
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, fried things. So, like, in in the the corn dog batter, yeah, like, that's that's obvious to me. The only other new thing they have over Sleepy Hollow is a pumpkin spiced funnel cake sundae. This is pumpkin funnel cake topped with pumpkin gelato, whipped cream, pumpkin spice caramel, marshmallow pumpkins, and sprinkles. I will say, Trevor, the pumpkin variety of candy corn, I do like i do prefer to eat regular candy corn. Because doesn't actually taste like cant or it doesn't taste like pumpkin. It's just sugar. Yes. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I do prefer that.
00:47:26
Speaker
I'm out on that, though, as we know. Because it's very very pumpkin-y. Yeah. Yeah. over at the spring roll cart they're gonna have the spring roll cart cardt open and they're gonna spicy pork spring roll that one is not new but it is available only during the party um which I love the spring roll cart I think that's become like a thing I know but like I i will stop there anytime I see it you know okay um So now we're over at Liberty Square.
00:47:52
Speaker
the only new thing here is the Magic Potion Sundae, which... Slushy. slushy Slushy. Yeah, they sorry. I don't know why i said sundae. Magic Potion Slushy.
00:48:03
Speaker
Fanta Blue Raspberry Slush with Yuzu changes color to from blue to green when you stir it. Well, that's fun. It looks very magical. It looks very magical.
00:48:14
Speaker
we We've had... When we went to... um ah where was it? The sit-down in Wilderness Lodge. where it's like Oh yeah, Whispering Canyon.
00:48:25
Speaker
No, not Whispering Canyon. um the other The other one. Artist Point? Yeah, Artist Point. um When we went there, they had a magic potion drink that it was the same kind of thing. was like they brought out like it was like a purple drink.
00:48:36
Speaker
Or no, it was yeah was blue, and you you poured um you poured something into it, and changed from blue to like a deep purple color. Stuff like that's cool. like like this This is a cool... like yeah you buy it, mix it around, and... yeah also looks like it's filled with that edible glitter, though, too, which I hate.
00:48:54
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, yeah, thatll i'll I'll deal with it for the sake of something entertaining.
00:49:02
Speaker
um Over Columbia Harbor House. and these these are This is actually not available during its this says regular park hours only, which is odd because they're talking about Halloween food. ah not Mickey's not so scary food, but whatever.
00:49:14
Speaker
They have a s'mores cup, which, listen, anytime you say the word s'mores to me, I'm in. I love s'mores. I love s'mores anything. i just S'mores is one of my favorite flavor combinations. I just love s'mores. So this is layers of graham cracker crumbs, chocolate ganache, chocolate popping candies. That's fun.
00:49:30
Speaker
Milk chocolate panna cotta and marshmallow cream. What you would expect, I think, ever out of a s'mores cup, right? Mm-hmm. But let's go down to Pinocchio Village House, which is these are going to be available during the party only because they do have a couple new items here. They have a there's a lot. that They've got three new items here. They do. Phantasmal fried pumpkin ravioli served with black garlic aioli.
00:49:55
Speaker
Ravioli served with aioli. but ah But they don't say what's in it. They just say they say pumpkin. It's got pumpkin in there. Okay. But yeah. Yeah. All right. Then they have undead garlic Parmesan chicken strips with their fried chicken strips tossed in a garlic Parmesan sauce, Parmesan and parsley. I would tear this up. These look delicious. They look absolutely delicious. I love garlic Parmesan. I love garlic Parmesan with chicken. yeah.
00:50:20
Speaker
yeah Give me that all day. That looks fantastic. and and And then here's here's the black item.
00:50:29
Speaker
the The Captain Hook treasure whoopie pie. So chocolate whoopie pie with caramel filling and fruit flavored cereal treasure. Also known as Pretty Pebbles. Let's just be honest with that is. But they've done something like it's black black. It dark black. Yeah. The whoopie pie is dark black.
00:50:46
Speaker
Yeah. But yeah I do like that they've got the little sugar skull on there, too. Like it it very much again, you know, the the presentation of it is fitting with the Halloween party. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
00:50:58
Speaker
This this would be something actually I shouldn't kid myself as an adult. I would eat this, but my 12 year old self would be like I would be begging my parents to stop here and get me one of these. Oh, yeah. absolutely Oh, yeah, absolutely. Yeah. 100 percent. 100 percent.
00:51:11
Speaker
hundred uh it looks like be our guest doesn't really have anything have like some new drinks but outside of that it's all the same menu yeah we we can skip on that cinderella's royal table has this supernatural shrimp which reminds me of the scene in beetlejuice i was gonna say exactly yeah i knew where you were going yeah it's it looks like the shrimp cocktail from beetlejuice Yeah, it looks exactly like that. They had made it like a hand coming out. That's pretty cool, actually. I i dig that. That's neat. I like that they're doing this thing where like this this other thing here, what is it beef and crout? Is that how you say that? On crout, yeah.
00:51:50
Speaker
Yeah, it's braised beef short rib cooked in blood red wine demi-gloss ah served with roasted seasonal vegetables. They basically made this plate look like a crime scene.
00:52:01
Speaker
Yeah, like like this is, again, back to what I was talking about at Doss Steakhouse is that I like this is similar to what my plate looks like at Doss Steakhouse. Yeah. And yeah like there's a weird like you said, it looks like a crime scene and it feels weird when you start eating it but yeah I can assure you this is probably really really good because yeah like ah you know red red wine demiglace is just like delicious with beef and yeah it's yeah again i like it's so weird because like
00:52:37
Speaker
Disney, like, ah you know, Disney is, they're starting to hit that like themed food. Again, it feels like, like these are definitely leaning into like, oh, this is themed to the Halloween party and it looks fun. It, you know, you know, it's not just like, you know, the, the same thing done five times, but with like, you know, they just changed the, the sugar thing on top or whatever. Like this is, this is, this is very cool.
00:53:04
Speaker
Like, Yeah, they also have a... What is this next one? A chicken roulade, which is... A chicken stuffed with, what is it, mousseline? Yeah. And black truffles over fregola pasta with agi, amarillo, and red pepper sauces. So that you get this red and yellow sauce.
00:53:25
Speaker
Splatter. Yeah. like play yeah It's very artistic. It is. It's very artistic. This looks like a Festival of the Arts dish. like done Yeah. Yeah, wait. Why are they like... It looks like dye almost.
00:53:40
Speaker
Why is this not at al Epcot? I don't know. It could be. could be can we I want to talk about the creepy cheesecake though, man. Let's talk about that one. So they basically made a cheesecake that looks like a hunk of cheese like you would see in a cartoon. Yeah, yeah like it's um it's so cartoonish though. and that But they made it so... They also put like some like green stuff around it so it looks like the cheese is rotting.
00:54:03
Speaker
And it's it's called the creepy cheesecake. It's pumpkin cheesecake, spiced oranges, orange curd, and chocolate crumble. But it looks awesome. You know, that this is, again, one of these things that, like...
00:54:16
Speaker
feels uncomfortable when you start eating it. yes Yeah. Like your brain is telling you one thing. yeah Your brain is like, should you eat this? This looks like it's rotting. But then you're like, oh, wait, but it's not real. But but it's delicious and I should keep eating it.
00:54:28
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. See, that's fun. I love that. I love that that this is the kind of stuff that they're doing. Let's pop over to Friars Nook. Sorry, go ahead.
00:54:40
Speaker
I was going to say, this is these are ones that are going to be hard because um they're only available after 4 p.m. and yeah at Cinderella's Royal Table. yeah so You're going have to score a resume for that one.
00:54:52
Speaker
yeah if if you're not If you don't have a reservation, you're not getting it. ah get Much like the lounge when I was there, like the person told the, the if you heard from my my recap of my vacation of how a lady, DVC member yelled at me, if you don't have a reservation, you're not getting it.
00:55:12
Speaker
Anyway, sorry. go That was a callback. But over to Fryer's Nook, which always has good little snacks here. They have ah a haunting jalapeno ranch tots. which are tots topped with black bean chili, cheddar cheese sauce, and jalapeno ranch.
00:55:26
Speaker
I was in on this outside of the chill the black bean chili. I'm not a big bean person. not But, yeah, I mean, it looks it looks pretty good. Yeah, it looks okay. I mean, it's yeah not nearly as fun as some of the other stuff we've looked at so far. But, I mean, hey, it's tots with jalapeno ranch. Like, that's fine.
00:55:45
Speaker
I do want to mention the not-so-poisoned apple donuts, which are apple cider donuts, which I love. Rolled in apple cider sugar and drizzled with caramel sauce, but they look... They're like red. They love us they look like mini apples, basically. Fire engine red.
00:56:00
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Very cool. They're very, very cool. Yeah, I like those those. Those are a good one. Over at Storybook Treats, you want to talk about the Ursula cone, which looks very cool.
00:56:12
Speaker
yeah So this is a Wildberry soft serve, which I don't think we've seen a lot of Wildberry. don't feel like we have, no. Wildberry soft serve with candy coral and citrus cotton candy in a black vanilla cone.
00:56:25
Speaker
That's pretty cool looking. I mean, it looks like Ursula. It does, yeah. Yeah. It's very well themed. Cool. And and again, the the the flavor profile of it, you know, citrus cotton candy with a wild berry ice cream. Like, huh.
00:56:43
Speaker
i wouldn't I wouldn't have expected that. And that's a good thing. Yeah. as Yeah. Yeah. in Like, this is what they should be doing for the ah for these Halloween parties is giving you stuff that you wouldn't expect.
00:56:56
Speaker
Absolutely. And they they have a ton of new stuff here. Like a ton. Yeah. Wait, i I didn't think there would be this much. I'll be honest. there's There's a lot. There really is. You do have to go further down here, Trevor, though. This is the next thing for antigravities.
00:57:09
Speaker
Oh, no. Cosmic Rays has the not-so-poisoned slushy. It has apple slushy. Yeah. I mean, it's it didn't feel like anything special. all okay fair Neither does this candy bowl sundae, which basically looks like they took all of the sponsored things that they have and threw it onto a top of a salted caramel soft serve.
00:57:25
Speaker
Yeah. This looks like somebody stopped at one of the trick-or-treat trails and just emptied a couple of bags of... like you said whatever's at the trick-or-treat this looks like we have uh we have a chain around here of like frozen yorker places where know you do your own topping called sweet frog and we my daughter loves it and this is this looks like what she makes when we go there she just dumps a bunch of candy on top of it and you know that's basically more in there is ice cream Yeah, somewhere in there is ice cream. But that's besides the point. you don't care who No one cares about the ice cream part.
00:57:57
Speaker
this Yeah, this just looks like a bowl of candy. I guess yeah it is fair play for Halloween. Yeah. like which I can't be mad about it. It's just not as inspiring.
00:58:08
Speaker
It didn't need to be anything crazy, right? It's just a Sunday. yeah ah But down at the lunching pad, they have a skull cake, Trevor, that is a banana cake filled with dolce de leche.
00:58:20
Speaker
It looks like a skull, and it also looks like it's like bleeding out of its eyes. yeah Oh, yeah. On board, 100%. that is very cool that is what we need that yeah like you know that we've been getting that seems somebody found a skull mold and they're making various things with a skull mold we have a surplus of skull modes make everything but molds make everything in the skulls yeah and and that's fine like i'm i'm i'm down with that it's it it works right yeah yeah i agree i agree yeah uh uh boy but let's skip over the popcorn bucket
00:58:54
Speaker
Because they're the same as last year. they did look They're not new. Okay, so ok so that's it for that's it for food, though. That's it. They're boring. A lot of fun food, but a boring popcorn

Halloween Merchandise and Authentic Reactions

00:59:04
Speaker
bucket. Yeah, well, what are you going to do? We can talk really briefly here about some merch. There are some cool ah spirit jerseys.
00:59:12
Speaker
um Yeah, you know, listen, if you're into spirit jerseys, you know, these are pretty cool. They got them. they I will say the yeah the Not So Scary Halloween Party shirt with the gray diggers on it.
00:59:24
Speaker
It's very cool. I like that. I agree. I agree with that. I agree. I like the pin that they have. I do like the glow. Yeah, the glow in the dark gray bear shirt is cool. Are you talking the Sanderson sisters one?
00:59:36
Speaker
Where's that one? No, I was talking about the Hocus Pocus villain spectacular. Oh, yeah. I have no idea where you're looking. I'm looking on the merch. Yes. I'm sorry. The pin. Yes. That one is that one is cool. I like it.
00:59:48
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. It's it's neat. I mean, it's nothing special, but it's, you know, it's cool. I was also looking, though, at ah at the other page here, too, with, ah you know, some of the some of these other things like the, what does this say? A zipper that's it's shaped like a bat.
01:00:07
Speaker
I like that. It's pretty cool. Yeah. um the Yeah, I guess that there's the... It's kind of weird. they're They're kind of bouncing back and forth between like the the Mickey and Minnie stuff and the Sanderson sisters. Yeah.
01:00:21
Speaker
Which I guess is fair. Like, like you know, it's probably, you know, it gives you some choices. But. I agree. Yeah. Yeah. It's I mean, it's it's OK. um Like i said, not nothing like amazing there. And that there's like ah there's an ornament with the the ballroom ghosts, which, again, looks looks nice. I feel it looks.
01:00:42
Speaker
Do you feel it's a little too um cartoony this year? You know what I mean? and don't think so. I mean, I feel like it's usually cartoony. No.
01:00:53
Speaker
um Yeah, I guess I don't know what there's something about it. I don't know what it is like. It it feels very um like yeah what's it's cartoony, but like there's not a lot of detail to anything I'm looking at here. It's very it's very flat, I guess, is like, OK, like it just feels like like these were like sketch drawings that made it to somehow made a past green light.
01:01:20
Speaker
I mean, they don't look like I mean, I think they look cool. I don't know. i don't I don't have a problem with any of these. Yeah. it I don't know. It's not like... You know, every year they they do change up the style of stuff they do at the Halloween party. And ah yeah, this year is just not working for me, I guess is all it is. It's fair.
01:01:37
Speaker
It's fair. All right. Well, why don't we go wrap up, Trevor? I think that was a pretty comprehensive. Here, let's I'll just do a little... That's all you get for the end of food time. um It's going to annoy lots of people. That's fine. Okay, just so everyone knows, when we started this episode, we were not... That was not on the list. I pulled an audible. Yeah, that was an audible by me. Yeah.
01:02:02
Speaker
So, yeah, we were not ready for that, and that's fine. And i actually, I'm glad we weren't ready for it. because No, it's more fun that way. Yeah. It's funny because, you know Trevor, we talked about this outside of the show. We'll pull back the curtain a little bit, you know break down the fourth wall here.
01:02:16
Speaker
ah you know we we got that we We read that one review a couple weeks ago, and and it was talking about you know us not knowing stuff all the time. We kind of purposely don't prepare ahead of time.
01:02:27
Speaker
Like that's, it's not like a laziness thing or that we don't want to do the work. It's we, we like reacting to things in real time because we feel like that is what sparks conversation and sparks ideas and, and, and, you know, sparks our creativity is when we don't look at things ahead of time.
01:02:45
Speaker
and I want to be genuine in my reactions because we we, you know, we are genuine on this show. So, yeah, it's, but it is fair. You know, I do see the point of if we don't do research, we you know, it looks like we're, we're unprepared, which is fair. and But I think that we have enough knowledge around Disney in general that we're, we're prepared to talk about it in the context of the larger Disney, but individual things like, you know, food time or reacting to merch and stuff like that.
01:03:16
Speaker
Like you said, yeah, I feel like if if I spent if i spend time, like, days ahead of time reading about it, I'm not going to give as good of a response to it, I feel.
01:03:30
Speaker
if or i feel like my response will be more, like, cold and not not cold, but, like, it's it's you know, just, out like, prepared. Yeah, it's stale. Exactly. And it's not so, yeah. Yeah.
01:03:42
Speaker
Yeah. And so I, and, and it kind of goes back to like you know, we've talked about before of how, um, you know, I, I don't like spoilers for myself either. Right. This is the same kind of thing is that, you know, you know, I, I don't spoil myself on Disney things, but also like stuff on the show. I, I will read into certain things and, you know, I throw it and don't get me wrong. like throughout the week, you know Tom and I are both like, we but we are reading up on stuff. We, we message stuff. We talk back and forth about, you know, topics on the show and just Disney stuff in general. There's a lot of stuff we talk about that doesn't,
01:04:11
Speaker
get to the show even. Yeah. Because we are talking about Disney, but, um, but yeah, you know, I do like to keep it. Um, I like to keep, you know, whatever we see is, you know, like even the food time stuff is if I'd seen that stuff ahead of time, I would not, or,
01:04:30
Speaker
I wouldn't have reacted to it the way that we did as we were going through. Exactly. Right. Like, because I was, I was seriously shocked by some of the things that I saw in there. So. Well, and how many times have we been, you know, cause we talked before the show and we talk after the show and how many times we've been talking before the show and we start talking about something and it's like, let's save it saveor for the show. Yes. i Exactly. Yeah. yeah Because we don't want to, like, say it again, you know, like we it's like, oh, no, no, let's stop having this conversation. We could do this conversation on the show.
01:04:55
Speaker
You know, like and we did that because we don't want to repeat it like five minutes later either. Because, again, that doesn't feel that doesn't feel good, I guess. doesn't feel real Because especially because of Tom and I just had the conversation, then we're like, oh, we're we're not we didn't have this conversation five minutes ago. Wings like.
01:05:10
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. It doesn't feel real to us. We, we, we want to have real conversations on the show and that's what's important to us. And we're not, listen, we're not professionals at this. We're never going to be right. Like we've done this a long time, but that doesn't make us professionals and we don't want to be.
01:05:24
Speaker
That is not our, that is not our show. We'd like to have fun. We like, so I, I, I feel like I should revise what you're saying. There's that we're not professionals in that we're like Disney employees, but I feel like we are,
01:05:36
Speaker
we're professional at what we do because we haven't been doing it well long enough that we're yeah comfortable with it. Um, but that, but being a professional doesn't mean that you have to have in-depth expertise of every facet of what you're doing.
01:05:50
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. I agree. Yeah, I agree. Well, i just wanted to put that out there because yeah it was something we talked about and listen, we don't really keep a lot of secrets on the show. We put it all out there. So, you know, and, and we talk, you know, we talk about a lot of things, so might as well, but all right, let's wrap it up. Trevor.
01:06:05
Speaker
All right.

It's just tough in general, man, with life. it's ah We're all busy. it's It's hard to even get this show done, let alone do other stuff. yeah we we We make sure the show comes first, that you know sending out the merch and everything. 01:09:42
Speaker
If you don't. maybe Yeah. yeah agree if If you don't, if you don't, it's it makes a sad Tom. It does. It makes sad. Yeah. the <unk> there's There's an entire multiverse of sad Toms every time somebody it doesn't leave us a five-star review. Different versions of me. The multiverse splits off and there there's another sad Tom that's created. Don't create a sad Tom. ah Conversely, though, if you do five-star review, you make happy Toms and then that makes that makes you know a whole bunch of different happy Toms.
01:10:13
Speaker
And the happier Tom is, the happier the show is. so Exactly. Why am I talking about myself in the third person? All right. That was very funny. Outside of the reviews, don't forget to subscribe to Welcome Home Podcast so you can be reminded every time we release an episode.
