Speaker: So the goal is just to make sports accessible for people who are interested in it, but maybe in a less traditional way.
Speaker: You don't give a shit about the stats and the deep cuts, but you can appreciate that there is a lot of fun things in sports for everyone to enjoy.
Speaker: It's got some of the hottest and fittest people in the world,
Speaker: There's celebrity partners, there's fashion, there's drama on and off the field.
Speaker: So that's what we're interested in bringing to you.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: So Joni is much more well-versed in sports.
Speaker: I am coming to this purely from the pop culture angle of it all.
Speaker: So I am mostly here just to, A, learn about sports, but also I'm here for the drama, honestly, as I am always.
Speaker: Absolutely.
Speaker: Absolutely.
Speaker: And that's how it should be.
Speaker: I like this idea of anti-gatekeeping.
Speaker: Sports can be for anyone and you can enjoy it in whatever way you want to.
Speaker: Also, I am only versed in sports because I grew up with a divorced dad and a brother and it was very much like the default to just put things on the TV.
Speaker: But do I really know the difference between a running back and a wide receiver or zone defense?
Speaker: Like,
Speaker: not really.
Speaker: And that's not what this is going to be about.
Speaker: So if you're into, if you want your sports news, want to keep up with sports with the side of vocal fry, you have come to the right place.
Speaker: This is for you.

Speaker: And we were talking about this.
Speaker: This kind of came to fruition in part because of this Swifty wave of Swifty sports fans getting into football because of Travis Kelsey and the Chiefs.
Speaker: And we were talking about how there needs to be a more casual way to enjoy football.
Speaker: sports as, again, like people who've been traditionally left out as women, queer people.
Speaker: Yeah, just not white, cis, hetero men.
Speaker: Right.
Speaker: Like I am Eastern European and like the only sport that like I have ever actively participated in is probably like chopping logs at my like- Lumberjacking.
Speaker: Lumberjacking.
Speaker: Love it.
Speaker: So yeah, this is like, I'm honestly hoping to learn as much as like other people, but like I'm coming from it from like the same perspective as I guess-
Speaker: the rest of the world who just discovered who Travis Kelsey is.
Speaker: Yeah, exactly.
Speaker: I am a Chiefs fan.
Speaker: My husband is from Kansas City and they're probably the team I know the best.
Speaker: And I, you know, I know baseball.
Speaker: I grew up watching basketball.
Speaker: That was my dad's sport.
Speaker: But again, like I have more of a love for what are these guys wearing?
Speaker: What are their game day fits?
Speaker: I think that's really interesting.
Speaker: fun part of sports, men in sports in particular, are really taking fashion risks and like wearing colors and just leading the fashion world.
Speaker: So again, like whatever floats your boat, there's probably something sports related to get into.
Speaker: I mean, honestly, talking about outfits, I feel like
Speaker: Travis Kelsey has been opening my eyes into the world of sports fashion because I am definitely, I dress for like color.
Speaker: Like I forget what it's called, but it's like mood dressing.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I mean, not right now.
Speaker: I'm wearing all black.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: We're both like in very basic colors.
Speaker: This is like a very bad example, but Sarah's dressing is my favorite thing.
Speaker: And I love seeing it on people.

Speaker: like doing it myself.
Speaker: And so I feel like a lot of athletes are into serotonin dressing.
Speaker: Like it's kind of cute.
Speaker: Like I love to take risks.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And like they, yes, like they're so secure in their masculinity that they're like, yeah, I can wear this like hot pink outfit or like Travis Kelsey with his like dyed denim look.
Speaker: It was amazing.
Speaker: I mean, I will say the last outfit he had this weekend was a huge disappointment.
Speaker: Like that was giving Lifetime movie dad.
Speaker: That was giving like secondary character in like in a really bad mom.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Like I was not feeling it.
Speaker: Somebody on Reddit described it as like small town police mandates like nurse.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Yes, we're going to pivot back to that specific outfit in a little bit.
Speaker: But I do, I like that what you said about their secure and their masculinity, because one of the first things we're going to talk about today on our stats free sports news is Travis and Taylor, like America's obsession right now.
Speaker: My entire For You page is just Travis and Taylor.
Speaker: And the reason I think that this works is because, and why people are so fascinated by it is
Speaker: Travis is very secure in who he is.
Speaker: And because of that, he also is just a goofy personality and doesn't mind being in the spotlight a little bit.
Speaker: And we're getting to see what it's like her dating someone who is passionate about telling people that they're dating Taylor Swift, that they're into that aspect of it, the public aspect.
Speaker: And I do think a lot of that has to do with his confidence in himself.
Speaker: It definitely is like kind of refreshing to see Taylor Swift be so public.
Speaker: Like I feel like she loves the pageantry and like that's not a dig.
Speaker: Like I think that is a part of what makes her really talented.
Speaker: But it's like it really is giving like what I think she wanted to do with that Kennedy boy she was dating where she was like, we're going to be the new Camelot.
Speaker: It's a very embarrassing era for her.
Speaker: I think.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But I feel like it's giving sort of like Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince.
Speaker: It's very all-American.
Speaker: It's like I see rows of corn when I look at them.

Speaker: And from what I've heard, it's like a quasi lengthy process to buy a home.

Speaker: And again, he may have like already been in the process of buying the house, but I think that they've been dating since at least the summer.
Speaker: There's like a video from the Chiefs training camp where they're asking the athletes about their childhood crushes.
Speaker: And Marquez Valdez-Scantling is joshing with Travis and he says, oh, yours was Taylor Swift.
Speaker: And it's very pointed and he looks at him like, they know.
Speaker: So I think probably back in July, August, they started dating.
Speaker: So it's longer than we've realized.
Speaker: Wow, I did not realize that.
Speaker: That's kind of crazy.
Speaker: Yeah, I think, I mean, when did we, I think like June is when, beginning of the summer is when it came out that she was no longer with Joe.
Speaker: And I think they've, and then that little thing with Maddie Healy and now Trav.
Speaker: And I love that Andy Reid, Coach Andy supports it.
Speaker: He says, Taylor is always welcome at Arrowhead because Travis is playing lights out when she's there.

Speaker: It is someday we're going to get you there for a game and we're going to tailgate and eat delicious barbecue.

Speaker: And where better to do it than America's heartland and again, like the capital, or at least in my opinion, America's barbecue capital.

Speaker: It's a completely different vibe than what she's, you know, used to.
Speaker: And obviously she's still, they're doing dinners in New York and she's still going to LA and having, but it's a little bit of both.

Speaker: The only local cuisine I have seen her eat at the Arrowhead stadium is the chicken with a little bit of ranch.

Speaker: It's just about, but I do think it is about having a relationship that's a little bit more

Speaker: Yeah, but I also have this feeling that he, like, I don't know.

Speaker: If you've watched Quarterback, the documentary on Netflix, like it becomes clear, like she just, she truly loves watching him and is passionate about it beyond just like a wife and partner.
Speaker: And I just, if there was a man out there being that supportive of like his female athlete partner, people would be like,
Speaker: praise.
Speaker: They would not be coming for him.
Speaker: No.
Speaker: And I think a large part of that is also just like they've been together for so long and like, I don't know, maybe I feel like people always get like
Speaker: like shady about like oh like he can do better it's like no I think they're very happy and they actually love each other and have a foundation that was built on something other than his fame and money I think it's I have I really don't have any problem with Britney I like her and I think that this is a it's
Speaker: Hopefully more people will come around to that since Taylor is so beloved.

Speaker: But like, no, I think that, you know, I've always been kind of aware of him and like him and Kelsey, even before I like started watching it more regularly, but I never really knew that much about Britney.
Speaker: So it kind of is nice to like,
Speaker: see Taylor having like I don't know making it a bit like a fun like female friendship and like elevating Britney to the limelight in a positive way because like you know those Swifties are fucking crazy so like don't come for me don't come for me I love Taylor please um but like no I just mean like it can be a double-edged sword I think with her fame and I think it's kind of nice to see like Britney sharing the spotlight a little bit with her husband because like

Speaker: kind of want other people to start watching because it is genuinely so like lulls and dramatic and like there is so much pop culture in there that I don't even realize like yes that like that is what people are missing they're missing the drama angle of the NFL which is huge it's beautiful well that's why it pisses me off when people online on Instagram but also famous people like Kelly Clarkson and
Speaker: said something about like, oh, I just want to watch football when I tune in to watch football.
Speaker: And I'm like, no, we should all feel grateful that Taylor has gotten herself involved and is allowing herself to be associated with this platform.

Speaker: But like speaking of fashion, by the way, I want to shout out the fact that like,
Speaker: You know, you can say what you want about Taylor.
Speaker: She is like definitely a really smart businesswoman.
Speaker: And one thing that I really appreciate is that she has been wearing Aaron Andrews's line, like, I guess, like cute sports fan, like, like basically like sports attire, but like cute.
Speaker: So it's like for female fans who are like, I love watching football, but I don't want to wear like a ill-fitting jersey.
Speaker: Like, I mean, yeah.
Speaker: And it's like, she's been wearing her stuff and apparently her sales have gone like up so much.
Speaker: And I'm like, yes, like, this is what I want to see, like supporting other women.

Speaker: I am a little peeved though.
Speaker: She wore a sweatshirt that I wanted for Christmas to the last game.
Speaker: So that's definitely going to be sold out now.

Speaker: Like I, you know, and it's like, well, I think that you can, to quote Barbie, you can hold both in the palm of your hand and one does not diminish the other.

Speaker: And you don't have to be, I am an example that you do not have to be athletic to, uh, to enjoy sports.
Speaker: I am about the least coordinated person in the world.
Speaker: And I get just as excited about seeing Travis and Taylor holding hands and like kissing.

Speaker: I get just as excited about that as Travis having like 200 yards in the game.

Speaker: Again, I do want to say that these pictures of them like kissing were marred by the fact that Travis's fit really did not deliver this week.
