Intro
Introduction and Background
00:00:47
Nate
So Adi, thank you for joining the podcast. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and ah about your career?
00:00:53
Adhiyen
Hey, thanks Nate. It was happy meeting you. So a bit about myself. So I'm from India. And so basically I'm a coach, I'm a life coach. So I help professionals in clarity ah about their career and relationships. And I'm also HR executive. So I'm just trying to build my business and coaching as well as, you know, for bread and butter, I'm trying my work in HR executive.
00:01:21
Adhiyen
Yeah, so this is an intro about my profession, I would say.
Discovering Life Coaching
00:01:25
Nate
Fantastic. A lot of overlap. I, I'm a coach myself and HR background, so I can relate a lot to your background.
00:01:32
Nate
Tell me, tell me, tell me though about your, your, your, uh, inspiration. What was it? What that got, what got you inspired to pursue this career?
00:01:42
Adhiyen
ah The coaching one.
00:01:46
Adhiyen
okay so basically uh so it all started in the lockdown right like so you know the lockdown you know shifted many things you know in many lives so even i was i was working as a teacher and then i had to resign in the lockdown then i was trying to find different alternatives you know so and i was totally frustrated and confused about what i should do now
00:02:11
Adhiyen
You know, so that's when I came across coaching.
Balancing Roles: Life Coach and HR Executive
00:02:15
Adhiyen
And, you know, so it was just ah for my personal coaching. And from there I got opportunity to become a life coach for myself, like, you know, for others but and take it up as a profession. And when I was doing that, I felt like, okay, this is what something that I have to do.
00:02:35
Adhiyen
like you know maybe this is what my thing is and I felt that call and then immediately case I signed up their program and you know for the certification and you know that's how the journey started um of my coaching and meanwhile ah know then it's a business right so it takes some time to build itself so so for the bread and butter so i was trying to see any other opportunity so that's how i got a hr opportunity so i'm taking this both parallely enough maybe one day i'll try to i'll become a full-time coach yeah
00:03:18
Nate
Fantastic. So what is the difference then? So you're talking about
Life Coaching vs. Counseling
00:03:22
Nate
life coaching. So what is the difference, I ah suppose, between having a life coach and having a counselor?
00:03:28
Nate
Is there a difference between the two?
00:03:32
Adhiyen
Yes, actually, so ah ah life coach is more like a future oriented like you know it it is more things about the future like uh what do you want where do you want to get and what you have to do to improve that okay and counselor is way something he suggests you certain things like you know you can do this or you know you can do this way in in this way but he life coaches also does that but thing is that they are more of a listening
00:04:05
Adhiyen
And they believe that you have the solution. You know what is right. And I'll help you to bring out that solution from you. and up That's a simple difference, I i would say. Yeah.
00:04:19
Nate
And do you coach do do you find most of your clients are face to face in person or are you doing coaching online? What sort of mix do you
Becoming a Life Coach
00:04:27
Adhiyen
So for now, I'm doing it in online, completely online. I haven't done face to face. Yeah.
00:04:36
Nate
So what training did you need? what what what What training have you done to be a life coach? And I suppose for the HR as well. Is there any training that you that you would ah you've done and that you would recommend?
00:04:48
Adhiyen
Okay so basically this is something you know um I would say ah depends on person like few people will say you no need training to become a life coach some will say that you know you have to get a certified training and all but I would say it is both of the things like your life experiences matters more in coaching.
00:05:12
Adhiyen
Like the more you get experienced about life, the more better you will be able to help others. And at the same time, doing a certification helps you to bring certain tools, you know, the technique, the tools that are developed, you know, you'll get aware of those tools and certain techniques, you know, those kinds of things you will get aware. So combination of both, like, you know, your life experiences,
00:05:41
Adhiyen
without any certification without anything and as well as the tools and you know the techniques that you can use while talking with a person or you know while coaching a person both of them combined together brings a perfect coach I would say yeah
The Learning Journey in Coaching
00:05:59
Nate
does that take? So if you're going you're doing some certification in in life coaching, roughly how long does certification take?
00:06:07
Adhiyen
Certification depends upon the person who gives that. like um um It depends on five weeks, 10 weeks, two months, three months, the person who is doing that. But I would say that you know once you become a coach, you are forever learning. like it's There is no stop for learning. You have to learn it continuously again and again. The more you work on yourself and you know the more you start observing your things, the more it starts reflecting on the outside. So I would say there is they may there may be end for certification.
00:06:42
Adhiyen
within a week or within five weeks but there is no end for learning it just continues yeah
Personal Growth and Client Impact
00:06:50
Nate
agree completely. And like I, as I mentioned, I'm working as a coach as well. My my focus is more working with the english English language and working with career development. But every new client I'm learning, every time you have a new client, you're gaining that knowledge and that experience from them as well. Like it's full-time learner, always learning.
00:07:11
Adhiyen
yes definitely it is yeah okay so uh the best part is the i would say there are so many like there's so many best parts but i would say like you know one is that it continuously challenges you like
00:07:14
Nate
So what's the best part? whats What's the best part about being a life coach? What have you experienced? but What's the standout?
00:07:36
Adhiyen
every person is different and every problem is different and every person has a different mindset right so you know you have to work carefully with every person because as i said every person is different and also life coach demands more of your inner work so once you become a life coach you know you will be you should work on yourself each and every day right in ah one or the other way and This is one of the best part that I have seen so far. Like after becoming a coach, dad and certification after becoming a coach, I started to work on more on myself, the habits, you know the thoughts, the emotions, everything, the goals. The more I started working on myself, the more I was feeling better and the more confident that I can help others. And the next best part I would say that you know if someone congratulates you for the work, you know
00:08:31
Adhiyen
that we have done to them like you know they call me and say that you know how it helped them you know how it uh give a break too and it feels so good like you know okay like we are helping someone you know we it's uh in this big world we are making that small minute of impact you know that is really awesome to hear that yeah
Client Feedback and Self-Doubt
00:08:55
Nate
find it ah find interesting. like Some of my clients, they're so casual with the with the feedback. I thought I'd just quickly let you know that I was only aiming for a 6.5 in my oral exam, but I got a 7.
00:09:07
Nate
So thank you for your help. like This is huge news.
00:09:09
Adhiyen
oh yes yes i do experience that you know they do they do they say that you know uh it'll work this way it worked that way in a simple way then i freak out like you know oh that's so good you should celebrate it like yes definitely definitely yeah
00:09:09
Nate
like you should be You should be shouting this news. You should be so proud. But they're so casual with the wins.
00:09:30
Nate
Celebrate the small win. Even if it's a small win, it should always be celebrated.
00:09:37
Nate
So what's the hardest part? What's what what the most difficult part of being a life coach?
00:09:43
Adhiyen
uh is about you know it again come back to our inner work that we do that sometimes we doubt ourselves like you know whether I'm capable you know whether I can help them or not you know you know ah we doubt ourselves too like why I'm not following this habit why I'm behaving this way and you know these creates doubt on ourselves and Also, as I said, the continuous learning, you know, it it takes our energies, you know, time, we have to invest our time and energy into it. So which is often ah difficult, I would say. Yeah.
00:10:29
Nate
What about somebody who's listening to you now? They might be five steps behind you.
Becoming a Coach: Focus on Experience
00:10:35
Nate
They've thought they've thought about being a life coach, but they're not quite sure if it's for them and they don't know how to start. How would you give them advice? Would you be able to make it quicker for them or is there anything in particular you recommend they do um before they start their certification?
00:10:52
Adhiyen
okay so thing is that they may be five steps behind from me but they are where they are at their life like they are in their correct place in their life that's what i believe and they will be carrying certain experiences life experiences about themselves which could help others so when we help when we identify that there is no point if someone is staying back or ahead anyone can become a coach based on their life experiences and they can guide the people you know who they want to reach their stage.
00:11:29
Adhiyen
That is how I believe because I've seen 13 years guy becoming a life coach, you know, 15, 50 years old person becoming a life coach. So, you know, it's all about experience. 13 years will have a different experience, maybe able to help their age people. And 50 years, you know, have different experiences, may not be able to coach, you know, someone who's 15, 16, but may be able to coach 40, 50s. You know, that's how it works, I guess. Yeah.
Finding Clients: Networking and Social Media
00:12:01
Nate
And where do you find your clients? like Obviously being a new coach and and building your your brand and your business, how how do you find your clients? Do you have a website or do you how do you how do you advertise?
00:12:14
Adhiyen
Okay, so basically I don't have any website and I personally feel it's not for now necessary to have a website for me. um and So thing is that ah oh First, when you when you are working on life coaching things and certification and all, you can work with the people that your friends, you know you can work with your you know not so close family members, but you know someone who knows you, you know your networking group.
00:12:43
Adhiyen
you can start with them with the free sessions or you know pro bono sessions you know on your skills and then as you grow you can build yourself in social media just like I my my clients come from LinkedIn like I know I connect with the people in LinkedIn and you know speak with them and you know try to find out if they need my help in any way then if ah if we are in the same page then Of course, we get onto the board and work together. That's how I do it. And as you grow, like ah know you can have website and then you can have those ads and all those things. And then then you reach one one once after a few years, maybe you reach a stage where you don't need anything because your name speaks itself. like People come with this with your name. That's how it that's how the different stages. Yeah.
00:13:37
Nate
So build up to that word of mouth.
Recommended Resources for Coaches
00:13:43
Nate
So we've talked about certifications, but is there any other tools and resources? Is there any blogs or podcasts or any anything that you any books you've read that might be helpful for someone looking at his career?
00:13:55
Adhiyen
Okay. So the book that helped me most was Tony Robbins, Awaken the Giant. Like that is just right in front of me. So Awaken the Giant book was so good.
00:14:05
Adhiyen
Like, you know, it can be like someone who wants to coach people, you know, it can be a good start for them. It's a very big book, but contains a good things that we can work on ourselves and we can also help others to no oh help them.
00:14:26
Nate
Fantastic. And I always like to to end the pond podcast with wanting to know about any mantras or quotes or any any inspiration that keeps you going and motivated.
Motivation and Philosophy: One Step at a Time
00:14:37
Nate
Do you have any favorite quotes you could share with us?
00:14:40
Adhiyen
so the one code that i always remember is when i was in 12th class 12th grade so my ah economics sir has written on the board and i i don't know it just always sticks to me that you know um one day in retrospective years of struggle will come as a most beautiful like you know that is something that always inspires me that you know just put your work do what needs to be done and one day it will come to you like you're putting the work and you know you're you're giving that energy and if not today if not tomorrow maybe one day definitely that will come back to you that is uh my favorite quote and one thing that i always follow is one step at a time like
00:15:33
Adhiyen
always like one step just now right now i have to do this i'll just do that that's it yeah okay
00:15:40
Nate
Yes. I love it. That's perfect. Yeah. yeah my ah my My philosophy is one step at a time, but I actually say one baby step at a time, because some like some days it's just really hard.
00:15:53
Nate
It's hard to get moving. It's hard to get motivated. And sometimes all it takes, though, is just a baby step. It doesn't need to be a big step. It doesn't need to be a leap. It just needs to do this much today, just this much.
00:16:04
Adhiyen
yes definitely definitely I agree with you yeah sometimes it's just one sometimes it's just quarter sometimes it's just half you know sometimes it's just waking up and then sleeping back again that's it yeah yes yeah
00:16:20
Nate
Well, that's it. Some days just getting out of bed counts. Some days you just got to get out of bed. Absolutely. Fantastic. Thank you very much, Adi. It's been great getting to know you and hearing more about life coaching. And yeah, keep in touch. Send through your contact details so I can add them to the podcast notes. So if anyone wants to reach out, they can get in touch with you.
00:16:44
Adhiyen
Sure, definitely, definitely. Thank you. Thank you so much for ah bringing me here, Nate. And it was a pleasure connecting with you. Yeah.
