Speaker
Good day. It's Poulsen Red. In this episode you learn how we pronounce the and name of our latest Dutch edition. So it's now Lucharell Galtrudor. Get used to it, alright?

Reflecting on a Hard-to-Watch Match

00:00:12
Speaker
And we look back at a match which was really tough to watch.

Richard's Formula: Runs vs. Wins

00:00:20
Speaker
Richard is wearing his smiley pants while he's looking at numbers. So the formula seems more runs equals more goals equals more wins, right? Yeah. Sounds like it. If you take it at face value.

Atletico Madrid: Strengths and Weaknesses

00:00:32
Speaker
yeah I'm afraid it's not that easy. And this is what I get when I ask Richard about any signs of weaknesses when talking about Atletico Madrid.
00:00:42
Speaker
No, we can stop here now.

Upcoming Episode Releases and Previews

00:00:46

00:00:56
Speaker
So welcome to Balls in Red.
00:01:13
Speaker
And welcome to Bulls in Red, your football podcast about RB Leipzig in English from Leipzig with your host Richard and Mario in each week. We just take you by the hand or we're inviting you to see the RBL world as we

Hosts' Personal Experiences

Speaker
see it. So hopefully you like coming along for the ride. Let's go. Mr. Richard, how are you tonight? Mr. Mario. I'm fine. Everything's okay. Good to see you again. Still alive. It's been a few hours since last time. I almost forgot how you look like. I aged. Sometimes I aged well, but I aged. It's late, you know. It's actually bedtime. Yeah, it's the high def. That's my hot cocoa.
00:02:00
Speaker
It's the high dev cam. The high dev cam. If you're switching to a 48p, yeah, 480, it's not that hard. Seeing all those, you know, scars. Scars of

Match-Day Atmosphere

00:02:17
Speaker
life. There you go. It's just the experience that I've got. Who knows? Well, Richard, welcome back and very nice having you here.
00:02:28
Speaker
Let's talk about this beautiful match versus the Eisenman as the FZ on your belly. And I gotta to tell you from our last episode, I was hyped. That was so optimistic, but I must tell you, I don't like international breaks. I don't know about you, but it always seems, you know, we're in fine form before the international break. And then the international break happens.
00:02:53
Speaker
And we come out of it and we seem to be stopped in our tracks.

RB Leipzig vs. Union Berlin: Performance Analysis

00:02:58
Speaker
But to be honest, we never suspected that because it was a fine day on Saturday. The weather conditions were perfect. It wasn't too hot. It wasn't too cold. that The sun was shining. Everybody was optimistic and we could look forward to a 15 minutes of silence from the UN YON supporters, because of course they're protesting, gets the RB Leipzig marketing vehicle construct, being a former construct themselves, but I don't want to go into this right now. Anyway, so the 15 minute silence, you know, that would be a beautiful time to get the go ahead goal, just like last year when this happened.
00:03:43
Speaker
oh a It was a gold panda, but this time, well, this wasn't supposed to happen. Anyways, the ah stadium was full. It was a record crowd because they extended their capacity. The RB Arena can now hold 47,800 spectators. That's not even half of what it used to be in the Zendrache Stadium, but it's a much more comfortable, as we all know.

RB Leipzig's Defensive Strategy

00:04:09
Speaker
We've got a roof over our heads.
00:04:11
Speaker
And it was actually sold out, but I don't know about you, Richard. I saw empty seats where people dressed up as seats. I don't know. if There were some empty seats around. That's what I wanted to say. I'm sure people were wearing somewhere red, somewhere white. Yeah.
00:04:29
Speaker
But even in my beloved sector D, I could see those three letters a little bit. RBL, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Maybe people are just upstairs at the indicating area, smoking, chatting, drinking. Maybe that's the best thing. Well, to be honest, don't say that was the best thing you could actually do. And, um you know, we came off a wonderful start to the season at two in Zonderell Belt. We're beating the champions that were beaten away in Leverkus, and so What should go wrong? And on top of that, remember the international breaks when always somebody came back and was injured? Usually it was the Spanish guy, Danny. But this time everybody came back and some of them on a high, you know, Shavi, he was great when he played against Germany. Did you see him? Beautiful performance. Shashko was on a high. Didn't he score a hat trick?
00:05:20
Speaker
For Slovenia, wonderful performances. David Allen was ah really good with the German team as well, and I think he has established himself to be in the ah starting 11. So I was really, really confident. I mean, on the other end, Pete had a tough night versus Germany. Okay, but then he got a rest, like you pointed out last time. And Golpenta missed a penalty. But hey, why should this affect us in that match, right? So everything was set up for a nice Saturday afternoon.
00:05:47
Speaker
And then that happened. The match

Missed Opportunities and Offensive Challenges

00:05:51
Speaker
wasn't as we expected, was it? Because in the first 15 minutes, although there were no UNYUN supporters chanting, they were still in their little section. They were quite which was good. And the RB Leipzig supporters, you know, they made some noise, so that was that was quite fine. But we didn't get a go. We did not get a go. We didn't even get close to it. There was no party going on like that. And the first thing a lot of people noticed when RB Leipzig started
00:06:21
Speaker
It was that they started with a ah back five, so very defensive. Very defensive versus a team, Union Berlin, which is known for their offensive skills. Not. It's more the defensive side. And they did place themselves. They're 50 meters behind the ah middle line. I mean, they didn't even move forward. They stood there in two lanes almost. It's a bit like Falvel-Bohon last season when we drew 0-0. Pretty much the same structure. It looked really, really similar.
00:06:51
Speaker
And I read somewhere that the reason for working with a five-man defense was to compensate for Willy Orban's absence and take the load off a little bit of the ah new defender, whose name is... village chartrada And you know how Tim actually pronounced it and us in the stadium.
00:07:18
Speaker
So it's now Lucharell, Galtrudor. Get used to it, alright? And while we're talking about pronunciation of our new players, listen to this. won yours ontonio

Pace and Set Piece Issues

00:07:35
Speaker
to So, we got Nussa and Vermearen. Vermearen means so you temporarily have lost something, haven't you? For Mount.
00:07:51
Speaker
So there you go. Well, you increased something. Oh, for me on your right. Oh, o Richard. Wonderful. You're right. So, um, yeah, Galtrudor, he started and he he had a solid performance in defense. So I'm not really sure if it really needed that back five just to take a little bit loads off him and.
00:08:11
Speaker
The defense wasn't a problem, you know, Closterman did a very good job as well. In the beginning, Castello had a few dodgy situations, but he did did did as usual during the match as well. So defensive, I didn't see any problems there, to be honest. And also, Pete pete performed well. What he had to do, he kept his clean sheet, so that was good. But with this bag five, the The play was really static, there was no fast movement, it was really slow, it was from right to left, no really deep passes, nothing surprising, and that was really that was really surprising. And it seemed as if everybody was trying to find Javi, but Javi was really taken out, to be honest. So I noticed that kampel.
00:08:58
Speaker
was a lot more noticeable during the match as well. He was very active in some situations. He you actually saved the ball, he got the ball, which is great, but he's not known for making a a ah play fast. So there was no real pace. That's what we usually have on the counter.
00:09:16
Speaker
And with tea with a team like Eun Yoon Berlin, who was parking the bus, they were parking the bus, we we didn't have any any options to be honest. We kind of switched off or we didn't find any good solutions. And as the game went on, after the first half, when you look at the X goals, where RBL had Eun had 0.00, so nothing, there were no chances were created. But as the game went on, Eun Yoon got a little bit more cheeky and I feel they created a lot more chances. But if we didn't create anything from Openplay, you could argue, OK, there's set pieces.
00:09:52
Speaker
Gosh, but this season,

Missed Penalty and Result Dissatisfaction

00:09:54
Speaker
yeah you know, we saw this versus Bohun at set pieces. Our team is really poor, very harmless. Nothing is happening. I filmed a couple of situations and I thought, oh my God, this is really, really not good at all. So didn't even change in the second half because Alexander Tickler was at the sidelines, as we all know, because Coach Rosa and he served his band for a red card, so he wasn't there. Well, he was in the stand somewhere. So he didn't make any subs until, well, the 66th minute, which is pretty much what Rosa does as well. But, you know, Nusa came in, Vermeerin came in, Baumgartner came in 10 minutes before the end, and then Posenen shot two minutes before the end, and there was no re virtually no impact from those people from the bench. Nusa a little bit, but
00:10:43
Speaker
You know, the 19-year-old young guy, he can't save the day every day. So maybe that's too much on his shoulders as well. So unfortunately, on Saturday, it was a really tough a piece to watch. And as I mentioned before, in yong more cocky as the game went on and it felt like they're creating the clearer chances up to a point where Pete had to make a really really good save to keep his clean sheet but also to save that little point that we've got in the end.
00:11:16
Speaker
And it felt really dissatisfying in the end, to be honest. It almost felt like like we lost the game. And it all accumulated as well and when, ah well, we got a penalty. That was like bohum. We got a penalty. And there was a little bit of discussion. And of course, the Union goalkeeper made a little bit of a meal of it. Union themselves on social media i claimed they were playing mind games. And at the end of the day, Golpenda didn't score. He took the penalty, but he didn't score.
00:11:45
Speaker
and Union claimed that they won the mind's game. But listen to this, we were really exasperated by that time.
00:11:56
Speaker
Gosh, we couldn't believe it. But that penalty was so poor. That was so poor. Hit to the left-hand side, easy for the goalkeeper to get and push it away, reflected to to the right-hand side, but not towards Soppenda. So he could do a Florian Wirz, like he did a Manch Day 1.

Running Stats and Football Strategy

00:12:16
Speaker
Now, now, just to the side and that was it.
00:12:19
Speaker
And from there on, we all had the feeling that nothing good would come out of it. So we didn't lose. I guess that's the good part. The match was really not very attractive at all. Onion Berlin got a little bit more cocky during the game and actually created the better chances that we thought. I mean, there was one chance where RB Leipzig hit the crossbar. But to be honest, nothing was really forceful where you would have thought, OK, now we we definitely, definitely need to score.
00:12:49
Speaker
And some people actually said, well, was Shavi also a bit overwhelmed by trying to fill Danny Olmo's boots? And i i don't I'm not sure I agree, because Harvey Leipzig has actually played quite a few times, long stretches without Danny Olmo in the previous season, and Shavi performed brilliantly, and we still managed to collect vital points. So I don't support that view at all. I think Shavi just has to be let loose. He will get back into into the rhythm as well and to regain his confidence and will do shabby things again. But at the moment it doesn't really come through all the way as we would love to. Also the guy who who went AWOL a little bit was Sheshko. Sheshko didn't really see him. Poor guy and nobody could really find him. One of the ah people next to me said this.
00:13:45
Speaker
um under school on my oath Where's that long guy, tall guy, Sheshko, when you need him? Well, he had he didn't have a good game at all. There was no danger when you're willing for him to to actually hit the ball and and score. So unfortunately, paul not so great. Or Penda wasn't very sharp either. Not as sharp as usual. So this game ended in a normal draw. At the end of the day, I think it's a fair result.
00:14:15
Speaker
And there is a lot of work still to be done and for the coach, the staff, the team. And i'm I'm sure everybody's aware of it. They're all professionals and highly paid. Plus um they know that there is no rest with Wicked until Christmas because there is a packed schedule until then. Good for us because we can put this game away.
00:14:34
Speaker
and move on to play at Lédico Madrid. We'll talk about that a little bit later. But as one more thing I would like to highlight, there is somebody who made some sort of correlation between with the willingness to run and the possession of the ball. um A gentleman called Edbolligayr, I'm going to put a link in in the description note, he put up some stats and form of match day metric four.
00:15:04
Speaker
and which showed a couple of teams that he selected with a high percentage of the ball, who had a high percentage of the ball during the match, plus the amount of the distance of kilo kilometers the whole team was running during the match. And a similar high percentage of ball possession had teams like Borussia Dortmund, Bayern München, Bayern Ulfje Leverkusen, they all were successful, victorious this weekend.
00:15:33
Speaker
And some of the teams in one of the teams had 12 kilometers more distance, ran 12 kilometers more accumulatively as a team compared to RB Leipzig. And even Union Berlin ran seven kilometers more than RB Leipzig at the weekend. So he just makes the, ah he just jumps to the conclusion that because RB Leipzig is kind of lazy and not running that much,
00:16:01
Speaker
The other teams, although that they have the ball a lot during the match, they are not likely to score and to win. So I'm not really sure if you can make this correlation, Richard. Is this something you would agree on? Interesting point here. um So the formula seems more runs equals more goals equals more wins, right? Yeah. Sounds like it. If you take it at face value. Yeah.
00:16:25
Speaker
I'm afraid it's not that easy. Is it a bit more complicated than that? ah Yeah, it seems like. so i i found yeah I had this post on my timeline as well and I found it really interesting and it triggered me. and so I sat down next to my computer and started doing a little research about what those numbers, what those figures were like last season.
00:16:48
Speaker
Okay. And I found out some interesting things. So last season, the team with least of all teams of the Bundesliga in terms of distance covered was Bayern Munich. Now Bayern Munich had the lowest number. Lazy, what's it? Distance cover. Lazy, yeah. Lazy botzies. Old Thomas Vula comes to mind. I'm not running. Forget it. Harry Kane, she's in one position. Give me the ball. Give me the ball. High score. Look, I'm standing right on the penalty box. It's my experience from the Premier League, mate.

Debunking Running Myths

00:17:26
Speaker
I've got a score. So yeah, Bayern only year only yeah they they ran for a total of 3,921.8 kilometers. Okay. Leverkusen was number four in that stat with 4020. And you see, it's about only 100 kilometers in difference between rank 18 and ranked number four, or in other words, it's about 2.5%.
00:17:52
Speaker
So we're often talking about it's important to put any time 100% in anything you're doing on the pitch because you know it's it's professional sports and these the slightest withdraw from from in terms of willingness of giving them all for the whole 90 minutes could be too much especially in games where often one goal is the decisive between winning or losing.
00:18:22
Speaker
So, but on the other hand side, it's not that much. and Another interesting stat I found was um that number five in that stat, a distance covered last season was Esther F.T. Kern. Cologne. Cologne. They're not there anymore. Yeah, they got relegated. How can that be?
00:18:44
Speaker
How, how can that be? Because if, if it were true, if it was true that more runs equals more goals, equals more wins, can, must have stayed in Italy, but it didn't. And it's not only the, it is not. Yep. They were number five.
00:19:03
Speaker
in that department. So with only three kilometers less, so almost equal to what Leverkusen did, but with a whole nother outcome. Okay, maybe it's ah that's said it's a fluky one, a fluky stat. So I started to look into another one. And similar findings can be found in the stats of intense runs. I'm not sure if this is the correct translation. So in Germany, we say an intensive leuf.
00:19:30
Speaker
And the number one here was Wolfsburg with 26,800 and something runs in the whole season as a team. Okay. Champion Leverkusen was ranked number nine, RBL 14 with 23,000. So more about 10% less than Wolfsburg. And Bayern Munich was number 16. So with slightly under 23,000 intense runs.
00:19:56
Speaker
And now looking where it's going here, code is number five again. Okay. So they run a lot and they run a lot fast. But does it mean they run after the ball because they haven't got it?
00:20:09
Speaker
Anyway, they put a lot of effort and that's what Yeah, what I was, was what I came into my mind and when I saw that post. So that, hey, look, Bayern, Diwakusen and Dortmund match week three in the Bundesliga ran about 12 kilometers more than RBL did. And this should be or could be the reason or had at least had a huge impact on the outcome. And i I tend to disagree with that conclusion.
00:20:37
Speaker
So let's take a last look at the last stat I have figured out here is sprints. Number one was Heidenheim, 8480. Leverkusen was number six, RBL number eight, 8000 sprints by a number 10, and Cologne number 11. So not in the upper Bundesliga tier in that's that stat, but still not bad. Okay, still not bad. So the question is, what's winning about?
00:21:07
Speaker
If it's not runs, so obviously it's not runs. It's not the distance you have to cover. So yeah remember, Bayern was last last season and and it's not the number of intense runs or sprints. It must have, it must be something else. So I don't want to go as far to this point. So I say, Hey, I.
00:21:28
Speaker
I encrypted football. No. I'm going to finish. I'm going to quit this podcast because I encrypted football. I'm going to be rich tomorrow. Thank you.
00:21:42
Speaker
I'm hired by a Sky Germany. Or Opter. Yeah, Opter. So why Kern got relegated when they were so decent and run sprints in distance card? I looked into the gold score, okay? It's sometimes- At the end of the day it's about gold, isn't it? It's about gold. Yeah, you're right. And 28 golds in 34 games is just not Bundesliga worthy.

Shot Quality vs. Quantity

00:22:06
Speaker
No, it's not. And we keep forgetting about it. With all these sorts of stats coming out, you can get lost into it. But at the end of the day, the score line is the most important one. And if it is, if Cologne only score, how many goals during? 28. I mean, how many matches do we have? 34 in a season. Wow. And it's just unworthy for a Bundesliga participant. Did we beat them 6-0 on Leipzig? I think we did. That was one of them. Okay. Yeah.
00:22:35
Speaker
So, but we're trying to figure out what's necessary to win games and score goals. And obviously running around all over the place, it's not. No, it's not enough.
00:22:46
Speaker
now it's it's it's ah buts bad It's just not the direction we have to, we have to look into, we have to look at if we're trying to figure out what's necessary. It's not running around. The Spence is building here. Come on, Richard.
00:22:58
Speaker
Yeah, it's more dramatically important in my mind. My opinion is goals per shot. So put yourself in or your teammates, maneuver yourself and your teammates into positions on the field from where it can shoot. So it's as simple as that. And if you have to sprints or run intensely, or just walk like Hurricane or Thomas Muller, most of the time do.
00:23:27
Speaker
It doesn't matter. Put yourself in positions and get the ball from where you can shoot. And obviously, that's what the lads of Astor FTK last season was not able, good enough to do to perform. So because the goals per shot they had um was 0.05, 0.05 goals per shot for Astor FTK means yeah they need to shoot 20 times the score once. What?
00:23:53
Speaker
Yeah. 20 shots for one goal. Okay. To put this into perspective, Bayern is number one in that stat with 0.14. So that means about every seventh shot leads to a goal and RBL is not or was not far away um with 0.13. So about every eighth, seventh to eighth shot scores.
00:24:14
Speaker
I mean, that makes sense that that I can picture. So that really contributes to a successful season because you have to score. You have to not concede many goals either. So that could be another stat. But that makes more sense to me. Would you happen to have the stats for Saturday or is that too far?
00:24:35
Speaker
You know, that would be interesting. I mean, yeah, we had a lot of shots. We didn't score any goals. So that was obvious. I think it's interesting because on Saturday, we, it wasn't that bad. I think we had, I think 15 shots, 14 shots. If you take, if if you look at the total number of shots we had last season, it's about 500 and something. Okay. I will tell you exactly a 534.
00:25:03
Speaker
And if you divide this 34 games, we have about 15.7-something shots per game. So now we have 14. And penalties are not included in that stat. So it's not that bad. right Obviously, the shots came from poorer positions than usual. Maybe it could be. So you attended the game. Maybe this is a fair conclusion um if you look into the stats, as I do.
00:25:30
Speaker
and um But on the other side, we were not that far away from our baseline, from our mediocre shot line per game. So remember, 15.7 last season, Saturday, 14.
00:25:43
Speaker
and um i So don't get me wrong, I appreciate that there are nowadays metrics beyond shots, assists and ball position and so on. But it seems that there's still room for improvement or development of metrics that are really suitable to measure values that are directly connected with success.
00:26:08
Speaker
And obviously, as I told you, um running around is not. And by the way, one last thing that comes into mind is um back to shots. After three games last season, we had 48 shots this season 35.
00:26:25
Speaker
Well this time we had two home games instead of one and to be honest we had this year the allegedly weaker opponents. Okay we had Leverkusen and Union as well as we had last season in match week one and three. In the match week two we had this home opener versus Stuttgart where we outshot them 5-1 out of 5-0 in the second half. so and How many times have you mentioned that match? Lovely.
00:26:51
Speaker
Can we come back to it later? yeah I tried to bring this up. It was so nice.
00:27:02
Speaker
um Okay, but this time it was this time we faced boom instead. Yeah. Yeah. So, and now we have in this three matches, 13 shots less than last season. And to be honest, that's a thing that concerns me more than not maybe putting enough on that pitch, putting up effort to run 12 kilometers more. We have to shoot more and we have to shoot out of better positions. And You know, we have to find ways to put ourselves into that, that we are able to fire on the opponent's goal. And we need to figure out, and Marco Jose needs to figure out what's necessary to do so.

Preview: Atletico Madrid Match

00:27:44
Speaker
Bessie versus teams who parked the bus. Bohm didn't park the bus. Bohm was pressing quite high, especially in the first half. But on Jorn Berlin, they were so defensive at the start. Only in the second half, they opened up a little bit.
00:27:58
Speaker
It'll be interesting to see how this progresses and continues. And I'm sure we'll pick this up during the course of the season as well. But to be honest, enough of this match versus Berlin and the yeah two points we didn't get, because I thought we get three points easily. And, you know, I went in for with a three nil. I think you were a bit more cautious with a two nil. And even Saturday I felt this is a typical three nil.
00:28:26
Speaker
Home match. Well, it wasn't. So that's football. Like you always say, football is a funny old game, isn't it? catch So let's move on to our first match in the Champions League.
00:28:41
Speaker
introducing our next opponent dare a k So Richard, what is going to be served to us on Thursday? um In the all new UCL, we have to think, I think, travel to one of the hardest, the hardest way matches possible. You know, with a, i I tend to say with a heavy metal style playing football squad at Lady Comandre, you know. Does that mean they're firing from all cylinders? Yeah.
00:29:16
Speaker
fire from every year possible angle. And nothing always 100%. You know, it's it's not like, okay, let's it's ah take a look what the others do. Now, come on, we have the ball. Let's go for it. Go, go, go fast, fast, fast, sprint, sprint, sprint in 10 runs. And then yeah, trying to put the back of the ball into the back of net as fast as possible.
00:29:38
Speaker
And it's going to be a heck of a job. I took a look um into identify a little bit how they started into their season in the La Liga. And, you know, they did it quite well. Three wins, two draws in the first five games. So still unbeaten after five games. um They scored nine times now. And most recently, a three nil home victory against Valencia.
00:30:06
Speaker
Valencia was, you know, eat more without any chance than Union was in in the first half, you know, literally nothing, nothing from what happened. We look forward to this. And and on the other hand side, Atletico had, you know, a 3-0 win, scored three goals and had 3.1 X goals. So you get a feeling of, yeah, how, how would the this have been they unleash their whole offensive power obviously versus a poor Valencia so Valencia has a poor start into season zero wins four losses and only one draw obviously days they struggle to get into the season properly and we should be stronger than than them okay to be fair
00:30:54
Speaker
but on the other hand side you know it's the Diego Simeone style the attacking department without any compromises and the defense too and you know what that's gonna that's gonna hurt it's gonna hurt in the in the sense of of how i say it you know our strikers are midfielders they will have to deal with some uh serious tacklings by this spanish guys let's take a look how they have in their roster. And it's, you know, in in parts, it's, it seems like this is a ah world selection, a selection of the world's best player. So it's yeah, in some parts, at least. So we have Jan Oblak, the e famous goalkeeper, one of one of the best keepers in the in in football, in my opinion, does not concede
00:31:45
Speaker
Often any he old defense Cesar as PC. Well, I thought I could pronounce it correctly in the first try Cesar a spin is to eta 35 year old veteran saw anything knows anything. It's so hard to get in everything Maybe it's not the fastest anymore. But you know, he's with that experience. It's not about runs compensate that you can compensate that ah Okay Midfield Rodrigo de Paul co
00:32:17
Speaker
yeah and one gris man Who's that guy, that French guy? yeah it's it's like an an up upcoming start uprising start maybe okay Maybe he's going to be good. upcoming ten years yeah yeah they I think he's any good. yeah and But even better is number 14, Marcos Lorento. Oh, I'm a big fan of him. okay He can play anything on the right side of the page. He can play defender on the right, he can play midfielder, he can play moving, and even the right outside striker position is okay for him.
00:32:48
Speaker
he is so fast with the ball fast without the ball so intelligent in in creating stuff creating proper attacks you know about the right side he if he hits his feet to the ball and he tries to make the game quick and then go for it goes sprint alongside the yeah the perimeter and then comes off in a way with the with the crosser or like he did I think twice in the first five games if There's no lane open to put a decent cross into the box. Okay, I should by myself and He is a hard shot and he can score from beyond the penalty box So we have to be aware of his skills anytime because he doesn't need much room much space and
00:33:38
Speaker
You know, this famous guy we had here for, I don't know, two seasons from Norway, never really, and never really arrived

Atletico Madrid's Key Players

00:33:49
Speaker
here. Never took off. Showed his strengths, Alex Serlot. Just remember that goal we talked about last time, you know, during Corona versus Moenchek Lapa, the decider.
00:34:01
Speaker
Yeah. And that was, I think this is fair without, um, prove myself. Uh, it's very likely that this was one of, uh, if not the least, no, excuse me, the lonely, um, decisive goal he ever scored for our colors. And then he did really well last last season, didn't he? Yeah. Yeah. It was a top scorer. Yeah. The top scorer of La Liga with 24 goals. My tip, my hat that to that. Beautiful. Seems like it was overachiever. Okay.
00:34:31
Speaker
So I i watched the the the conclusions, the game highlights, the match of the day from analytical, from the first five games. And of course, I tried to cover everything, every year player, but I kept my eye on Solod, even in scenes where he wasn't involved. And yeah, it's not like he's like the the box striker. you know You have to bring the ball to him. And then if he's in a nice position,
00:35:00
Speaker
He is yes a good, his his heading game is is okay. Really, it is. So you don't score 24 times by accident. You don't. It's not like it's not all luck. It would be not fair to say that. But on the other side, you know it's it's not the one that creates something. It's not the end responsible for the creative part of their offense. And there's one more guy I haven't even mentioned yet. it's um you know Sometimes I have a nightmare.
00:35:32
Speaker
his name. But he's still there. And we have to deal with it. It's Mr. Alvarez. Yeah, you know, he's really, I really like him as a player. And I like him more than this ah guy from Real Madrid number seven.
00:35:49
Speaker
because he's a very good player, but he's he's kind of modest. And the impressive thing is how he dealt with the fact that he always came off the bench at City just behind that Norwegian blonde guy. And I think the last time we've seen him here at Leipzig, he scored a decisive goal for yeah but the loud city loud neighbors of City.
00:36:13
Speaker
patient Noisy neighbors, not so noisy neighbors. Noisy, yeah, they were noisy. had Too much beer probably. Or it wasn't anything special to beat Aubrey Leipzig anyway. Could have used to it. of Of course. So he's there again. Oh no. It was a nice girl. It was a really nice girl. and he He scored. And yes now he is with Adetiko and doing other things.
00:36:38
Speaker
But tell me, has he made it into the starting 11 as a regular appearance, or is he coming off the bench as well? And if so, if he does, why why is he not in the starting 11? What do you think? You know, the EOSM unit has got such a ah star player pack roster, it's not necessary um to to show Julian Avelas always to the opponents from the very beginning of the game. and Okay. So yeah, he started three times in the first five games, um two times came from the bench.
00:37:07
Speaker
decent So I think it it it depends on on on what he figured out is the best suitable starting 11 in terms of how to crack their opponent's defense. And obviously sometimes and another player is so suits better. But it seems like he shares his duties with Antoine Griezmann for most of the time.
00:37:31
Speaker
Okay, okay, then that makes sense, but on the other hand I might like Alvarez better ah He's the world champion, come on Griezmann is the former world champion. Oh god, this has got to be great. So yeah did you spot any weakness? Anything that gives us a little bit of hope? No, we can stop here. No, really. No, excuse me. I tried to, and but now there's no really weakness. So because there are so...
00:38:02
Speaker
You know, I don't like Diego Señor's behavior, but obviously he's a great coach and knows what but to do.

Tactical Flexibility of Atletico Madrid

00:38:11
Speaker
And remember last season when they faced the Dortmund in the quarterfinals, they handed in the ball over. They had the lowest ball possession percentage of the whole season at home, okay only 37%. And obviously that was the plan. So Dortmund, here's the ball, and we're watching what you're going to do with it.
00:38:31
Speaker
And at the end of the day, at the end of the match, they won 2-1 and had the better chances. But do you think that's going to be a similar plan for Thursday? I don't know think so. and anything Anything is possible. I don't expect that, but I wouldn't be surprised either.
00:38:47
Speaker
Really? And we know we know what to do with the ball, don't we? Like we've seen on Saturday. Yeah, I know what we're not doing. Running around. No, we're not running around. OK, but it's gonna it's gonna be very hard to score.
00:39:04
Speaker
This kind of contradicts what you said in the beginning, you know, you called it heavy, heavy metal football firing for most. Usually they do. Yeah. Okay. They do. And that game I was, I was, I remember I watched it and I was like, Hey, what's going on here? And then, you know, in the preparation of this episode, I watched into the stats from that game in particular. And then I saw only 37% ball possession and I thought, yeah, it was like that. It's really interesting. That usually a playing style.
00:39:31
Speaker
Because when I was working home on Saturday and in a group of people and one of them actually said, well, Atletico Madrid might be playing the same style as Union Berlin, very defensive. And he claimed that they'll be doing this all the time. but I'm not really sure if that is that is really true. But on the other hand, they seem seem to be changing styles and you and you never know you know which team will appear. But it seems to me they have all the quality, then whatever they do, they can beat you left, right and center.

Match Predictions and Closing Thoughts

00:40:00
Speaker
Yeah. Great. And, you know, one last thing I would like to mention is none of the first five opponents in the season in La Liga was able to put at least one X goals on the board. One X goal, not one. Real Real was the best match week one with 0.8. And I think as I mentioned earlier, and since then it decreased from game to game.
00:40:26
Speaker
Okay, 0.7 g rona 0.6 espanol 0.3 and last and I think you'll be bow 0.3 and 0.1 from Valencia. Thank you. Well, it can only go upwards again When we come in true. Oh, yeah, two it's awesome. Oh, that's that's oh I like that approach i know yeah Would you have an idea who Marco Rose is gonna send on the pitch this time <unk> for
00:40:56
Speaker
I wouldn't be surprised either if Marco would, for three times in a row, put again a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2 position on the pitch. So not the usual 4-2-2-2 formation we are used to.
00:41:16
Speaker
And um I expect that Orban will do his comeback and replace either Kloostaman or Lukieba in the central back position.
00:41:32
Speaker
And what I would like to see is, I would like to see Gertrude on the right lane. Galtrude! Yeah, instead of Benny Hendrix. You know, you can, I think Benny Hendrix is also okay in the and on the right side and but if you're gonna up with three cinderbacks. Yeah, okay. So, Goulashie in goal, then. Raum, I expect Lukieba Orban. Henry's Gertrude? Mm-hmm.
00:41:59
Speaker
as of five bags or three real bags and two wingers defensive wingers and and the other uh five that are left are the same so campel and heidara good to see him back appreciate that and then of course shavi shashko and opender dude doesn't sound so bad does it no it is not even against the team star-strutted team that you just just talked about they do they have to play the game The only thing they got to do is start sprinting and start running more and goals will it come. Maybe some shots will help as well. You never know. Some goals would be great. Okay. Thank you. Now, what are you? Should we do a score prediction? Yeah. We're going to fight hard while we're going to lose 3-1.
00:42:49
Speaker
Yeah, similar over here. Two nil. I don't think we're going to score. I hope we're not conceding more than two and I hope we can keep it open for quite a long time and aggravating a little bit off and on, but I think that quality will probably prevail.
00:43:07
Speaker
