Dave Margolis: Um, Famous people who were born in various days kind of concentrating on comedians and comics and comic actors. who were born in August, August 24th, Dave Chappelle. One of our great comics, I think. A little controversial.
Dave Margolis: But certainly a very funny guy. 822, that's August 22nd. Kristen Wiig. one of our finest. uh comedians these days and she's done look so talented if you go on any social media and you say best of christian Christian Wake Clips. There's going to be a lot of great stuff there.
Dave Margolis: What else do we have here? We have Steve Martin was born on August 14th. All right. special day there. I remember seeing Simeon Martin many years ago. He was just coming on the scene. I lived in Northern California. and went
Dave Margolis: The boarding house. and saw Steve Martin, one of the funniest nights of my life. were one of the nights where I witnessed. The funniest comedy. uh there it was very it was very early on i saw steve martin on the johnny carson show the tonight show he was still doing the arrow through the head thing at that time
Dave Margolis: And I saw in the newspaper he was coming to San Francisco. I had to go out there and see him, and it was terrific. I'm yeah very i'm very proud I saw Steve Martin early in his career. Sometimes he would end his show at the boarding house.
Dave Margolis: which was a great venue it was just basically i think full of like picnic tables inside Great stage. uh and uh after the show uh he would walk through the audience he would walk out And then you start riffing off cars going by and you sometimes walk people down the street to McDonald's and order, you know, cheeseburgers for everybody or or milk and cookies or something like that. And it's great seeing Steve Martin in early days. and
Dave Margolis: I remember going to see The Jerk with a friend of mine at the time, and he wasn't that familiar with Steve Martin. And afterwards he goes, he goes, yeah, he's funny, he says, but, you know, he's not going to last too long because he only does that one thing.
Dave Margolis: and of course Steve Martin has gone on to do many, many, many things. and is ah one of the great comics of all time. Okay. waiting for Al Pacino to show up here. We had him several times visiting us on our local tour.
Dave Margolis: show is this on and was always a welcome guest and he's going to be preparing something as far as cooking goes we'll have a little chat with him too one of the great great actors in american history movie history Al Pacino is coming up. I also want to point out, excuse me.

Dave Margolis: And. And that's it. Okay, we'll have another one soon. For health reasons, probably. now I'm seeing something on the right -hand side here. And coming into... i Mr. Pacino, is that you?

Phil Gordon: Welcome everybody to my apartment. in the Manhattan, New York City.
Dave Margolis: And I understand you're going to do a little cooking segment for us today. What have you got in mind?
Phil Gordon: i am I love to cook, Dave. do what We're going to get right into it right now. I, let me just say. These days, I feel great, but I am at a somewhat advanced stage.
Phil Gordon: And I do not like to leave my apartment very often.
Dave Margolis: Yep, I understand that.
Phil Gordon: So I do a lot of cooking, a lot of cooking. I think when I was out with you and Phil, we did Mama Pacino's Big Zitty.
Dave Margolis: That was great. Yes, that was great.
Phil Gordon: Wah!
Dave Margolis: Yeah.
Phil Gordon: I have that at least once a week. I have a lasagna, chicken cacciatore.
Dave Margolis: What?
Phil Gordon: But you know, being s stuck inside the apartment here... I miss certain things. about going outside in general, but... I love the cat, Dave.
Dave Margolis: Oh, you do?
Phil Gordon: I love camping and I love to cook when I camp.
Dave Margolis: Wow.
Phil Gordon: I have one of those beautiful camp stoves, you know, runs on gas.
Dave Margolis: Sir? Yeah. yeah i
Phil Gordon: And i got a quote I can make the city out in ah and the a campground as well. but I've come to take into certain things, and I cook here right here in the apartment, Dave.
Dave Margolis: Well, Mr. Pacino, I'm a little surprised, actually, because I always think you were a very... urban guy, a New Yorker. You say you don't like to leave your apartment. Surprised to hear you like to go camping. Are there any favorite ah camping areas you like to go to?
Dave Margolis: Where do you like to go?
Phil Gordon: o oh you're at
Dave Margolis: in
Phil Gordon: You're right out of Arizona, right?
Dave Margolis: Yeah.
Phil Gordon: I love the Grand Canyon, Dave.
Dave Margolis: Yeah.
Dave Margolis: Mm hmm.
Phil Gordon: Love the Grand Canyon. Love to cook out in the Grand Canyon. Love to hike in the Grand Canyon.
Dave Margolis: Really? Mm -hmm.
Phil Gordon: But it's been a while. I can't do it, but it doesn't mean I can't enjoy camping.
Dave Margolis: Yeah.
Dave Margolis: Sure.
Phil Gordon: So I fixed up my room here, my bedroom. Uh, a new campground. And I got the camp stove down.
Dave Margolis: So you've got like a... You got it. A little campsite there in your own apartment, huh?
Phil Gordon: Yes.
Dave Margolis: uh
Phil Gordon: Yeah, I went over... I went over to the Dollar Tree. And I bought a couple of trees for a dollar. And I put them up here to make it seem more festive day, more outdoorsy.
Phil Gordon: And I'll, you know, at night I'll... Crank up! the air conditioning so it's cool you know and i like that in the tent
Dave Margolis: So you you went...
Phil Gordon: <unk> You can't see the tent.
Dave Margolis: I didn't miss anything. He went to the Dollar Tree.
Phil Gordon: Yes.
Dave Margolis: And you bought some trees for a dollar? Is that what you're telling me?
Phil Gordon: Will I? I was mistaken, Dave, when I saw the name of the store, Dollar Tree. I figured there were trees were available for a dollop.
Dave Margolis: ah That's pretty sure.
Phil Gordon: i have My pockets were full of singles, but I came back with no trees. So I chopped one down in the park. Right over where, same place where Kennedy ate that tiger or whatever.
Phil Gordon: I took one of those trees. I think it still had some type of blood on it. Uh, anyway... I prepared for you and Phil. One of my favorites, Dave, because it's festive when I talk to you guys.
Phil Gordon: And I want to invite you to join me. We're going to. Teach! folks a little bit, but... We're going to enjoy me, Dave and Phil.
Phil Gordon: and maybe the most festive of all campground cooking. S'mores!
Dave Margolis: Oh, smock!
Phil Gordon: You like a cigar, Dave? Alright, hang on here.
Dave Margolis: help
Phil Gordon: Let me get the, uh...
Dave Margolis: Now, s'mores is something that probably everybody has made and they have a way of making it. but I'm interested in seeing what you're taking on the classic s'more.
Phil Gordon: Oh, yes. Right.
Phil Gordon: I love a smile, Dave. yeah I picked up the... the key element of graham crackers
Dave Margolis: Honey Graham crackers. Okay.
Phil Gordon: 100 grams. 100 grams.
Dave Margolis: I understand that was Senator Lindsey Graham's nickname. And so forth.
Phil Gordon: ah Among other nicknames, you bet.
Phil Gordon: I think... You know, they got a lot of weird products, Dave, at the dollar store.
Dave Margolis: We gotta speak nicely of the dead so I won't even mention Mitch McConnell.
Phil Gordon: There you go. ah Did he die then?
Dave Margolis: up
Phil Gordon: We don't know. we don't know well anyway Here's a here's it open the package and here's the small we'll be using
Dave Margolis: Classic.
Phil Gordon: Yeah, I'm gonna make one for you as a film
Dave Margolis: Mmm.
Phil Gordon: And then Dave, our old friend the Marshmallow.
Dave Margolis: man
Phil Gordon: Here we go. How about that? Whoop!
Dave Margolis: That way. All right.
Phil Gordon: I'll drop one down now. I think that'll do it.
Dave Margolis: I noticed that you I noticed you've got generic. ground crackers and marshmallows. So it doesn't you don't have to get fancy stuff for s'mores. You can get very...
Phil Gordon: You know, that's what I had in mind, Dave, for the low -income folks watching. I picked everything up at Dollar Tree. This is some version of a marshmallow.
Phil Gordon: Delicious. let me Let me just make sure they're okay.
Dave Margolis: Okay. Let's go.
Phil Gordon: Delicious Dave.
Dave Margolis: That's good. Yeah, because I understand that even though gas prices have been going up, that marshmallows have remained steady. So.
Phil Gordon: well
Dave Margolis: people who are making
Phil Gordon: Bat knife.
Dave Margolis: there's
Phil Gordon: I haven't made a movie in about five years. there so I've got to economize somewhere.
Dave Margolis: Save some money. yeah
Phil Gordon: And then, of course. so The creme de la creme.
Dave Margolis: right
Phil Gordon: of ingredients. What did I do with that? Yeah. oh here we go All right. I couldn't wait.
Dave Margolis: It's time to...
Phil Gordon: if All right.
Dave Margolis: It's an important ingredient.
Phil Gordon: I have the clock open. I had to crack open my favorite. No skipping here. These are your Hershey chocolate bars.
Dave Margolis: you you've You spent money on that. Hershey's, that's the best.
Phil Gordon: Oh, I could not skimp that. So I got the Hershey bars for for you and Phil, too. And up.
Dave Margolis: Now, what are you doing there?
Phil Gordon: I just want to go ahead.
Dave Margolis: and
Phil Gordon: Yeah.
Dave Margolis: I don't imagine you have a campfire going. What are you using in lieu of a campfire to create your s'mores there?
Phil Gordon: No, I have a campfire going, Dave.
Dave Margolis: No problem. We do. We do.
Phil Gordon: Yeah, how I do?
Dave Margolis: Okay.
Phil Gordon: i Hey, at hell, I pay a fortune for this apartment. I'll do what the hell I want to do.
Dave Margolis: I just hope you're properly vented that's all.
Phil Gordon: Well... I don't know about that. We're going to find out.
Dave Margolis: I will. Okay.
Phil Gordon: Dave, I took the liberty of preparing.
Dave Margolis: Going for a double.
Phil Gordon: Because I know you're limiting our time here on the...
Dave Margolis: Yeah.
Phil Gordon: yeah I know you. Podcast.
Dave Margolis: great So you've got to have...
Phil Gordon: So here is.
Dave Margolis: I had a time prepared by putting two marshmallows on a stick. so we didn't we could save crime
Phil Gordon: That's right. That's right while I was waiting. So here we go. I'm going to go ahead and the fire's going good.
Dave Margolis: Okay.
Phil Gordon: Get a little smoky in here, Dave.
Dave Margolis: okay
Phil Gordon: Oh. Look out.
Dave Margolis: Can we go?
Phil Gordon: ah
Dave Margolis: Is there any way we can get a shot of the campfire? Can you tilt down or anything? are we
Phil Gordon: I'm not able to at the moment. Let me just hold on. Let me try.
Phil Gordon: Uh, no. I don't think I i can, Dave. I'm sorry.
Dave Margolis: Okay, that's all right.
Phil Gordon: ah That fire's a little down too low. Not the flames, but the fire. It's getting a little little smoky now. Let's go and let me let me move it in.
Phil Gordon: Let me cook up these. marshmallows right now.
Dave Margolis: So for any of you on it
Phil Gordon: Okay.
Dave Margolis: um The uninitiated, if you somehow don't know what a s'more is, it's a classic, long -time...

Dave Margolis: yeah
Phil Gordon: from the wrapping.
Dave Margolis: okay
Phil Gordon: And I will place that.
Dave Margolis: Over and out. Hold it a little higher. You're out of frame there. Hold it up a little higher so we can see it. Okay. Mmm!
Phil Gordon: I'm going to. Place the chocolate now on the Graham cracker.
Dave Margolis: Okay.
Phil Gordon: And now, Dave, is the critical, the very critical part. Where the marshmallows are cooking.
Dave Margolis: a
Phil Gordon: On the flame. Then for you novices out there, I will take the cooked marshmallow. I will place them on the graham cracker. I will. Can you still see okay yet?
Dave Margolis: Yeah, yeah
Phil Gordon: I will crack the, do you see the crack under the grain cracker there?
Dave Margolis: Yep.

Dave Margolis: Go to town.
Phil Gordon: Welcome. Welcome to Mama Pacino Smalls Kitchen. All right, hold on. Let me see how that flame's doing. That flame's getting very high, Dave.

Phil Gordon: Not too well done.
Dave Margolis: Yeah.
Phil Gordon: Now I'm going to put that, take that off the stick, another teapot. Let me hold that up so you see what's happening.
Dave Margolis: Okay, that's good. hu

Dave Margolis: Yeah, you want you don't want the crackers to break.
Phil Gordon: You squish it down.
Dave Margolis: you've got to make sure Stay together.
Phil Gordon: Go! Oh, whoa, very careful about that there. Not a flame. My half flame is getting a little out of control.
