00:01:28
Speaker

00:01:39
Speaker
um I got a returning guest tonight on the show that everybody was was on here before. Wes Daivari, I'm going to bring him up. do do do do Computer.
00:01:53
Speaker
What's up, Wes? Welcome back, man. Thanks for coming back up on the show. Hey, no problem, buddy. Anytime for you. I enjoy it. Oh, man, our last time you were up on here, dude, we had a great time.
00:02:05
Speaker
yeling them So tonight we're going to talk with Wes and everything else.
Wes Daivari on 2026 Race Season
00:02:10
Speaker
What's up, Daniel? Thank you for tuning in um about this upcoming race season and some of his goals and stuff going on for 2026. I'm going to turn the floor over to Wes.
00:02:22
Speaker
It is yours, sir. Go right ahead. Well, like said, thanks again for having me up here. 2026 is going to be interesting.
00:02:35
Speaker
We're getting, well, this weekend and we'll be in Fort Wayne, Indiana with full throttle monster trucks. At the call soon for a two-day event. um
00:02:46
Speaker
So, starting a little earlier this year for four of us guys. It's an avalanche ordeal that we're Trying to promote.
00:02:58
Speaker
The new Buckeye challenge. For full throttle monster trucks.
00:03:04
Speaker
Now. That being said.
00:03:10
Speaker
ah guess it's. About as good time. As any to let you guys know that. um I will be helping out. I will be helping tech the trucks.
00:03:21
Speaker
um Me and JR have been. and cahoots about this. I'm actually stepping up and promoting a show this year. um Possibly more next year. We're going see how this goes.
Introducing the Buckeye Challenge
00:03:37
Speaker
But as far as the Buckeye Challenge goes,
00:03:42
Speaker
this is something that
00:03:48
Speaker
we're not trying to take away from anybody else's like Tyler's point series is strictly monster truck shows with the, um, addition of my one rough truck coming up, um, in Claremont County.
00:04:09
Speaker
Um, but there will be a lot more information coming out and in the coming weeks, um, I know me and JR will be talking this weekend about more of the challenge stuff, from more dates, drops, because we've got a few more races. We will have a full schedule up.
00:04:37
Speaker
So, I mean, this is this is just another way for us as modified trucks. mean, stock trucks are allowed to come. but know what you're getting into, I guess, is about the simplest way I can boy put it.
Race Formats and Incentives
00:04:58
Speaker
Just keep in mind that anybody can show up, but we are going to be limited to how many trucks we can have for the show. So we'll probably run qualifying before the show, and however many trucks we decide that or max is going to be is the amount trucks that are going to come to the show if you don't make the cut.
00:05:24
Speaker
So pretty much do kind of like a jamboree bracket style, basically say, yeah it's get 16 trucks to show up, 16 trucks to show, says shows up to one of your shows.
00:05:36
Speaker
Depending on the track size, everything else, you may take eight. You could maybe take four it or five. It just depends on way you guys have. set up Is that how that's going to work? or Yeah, I mean, we're looking for every race, we're looking for between 8 to 10 trucks is what we really want.
00:05:59
Speaker
Now, not saying that we won't take more, it kind of depends on, ah you said, in the track, you what's going on. um
00:06:12
Speaker
But like I said, we're just trying to give the rough truck community, more events to come to and make some money. Oh yeah. dera yeah Because did fair races, plus you got, you know, the fair race.
00:06:28
Speaker
And now also during the week, you guys, besides the monster truck show, you can be part of it and get out on a, I look at it as a bigger platform when you're doing these monster truck shows, because it's really countrywide in a way. If you look at, you think about it.
00:06:45
Speaker
So, yeah, I mean, I've been running with him for two years now. Right right about two years. This coming in my third year.
00:06:54
Speaker
I did some... I traveled with him. And that's the big thing. You know... like I got two races right here I'm going to talk about real quick.
00:07:06
Speaker
They're out of the state. But they're going to be part of the Buckeye Challenge. there These are point races. And we're going to be at Florence Speedway on June 6th.
00:07:18
Speaker
This is $1,000 to win.
00:07:22
Speaker
bet. So, I don't know very many races that are paying $1,000 to win. There's not really. You think about it, man. Look at look at what all you guys at most of these fairs run for.
00:07:37
Speaker
That's kind of almost double and triple some of the fairs that you guys win. to win For when the classes are even split up or combined, that's still almost triple the money.
00:07:49
Speaker
Plus, with you, where you're going to be at, that opens the door, too, for those guys out west. of play there So, with that race, we're looking at a $2,500 first.
00:08:03
Speaker
So, there's an extra $1,500 there to pay out the rest of the guys. Like I said, we're looking, we're guaranteeing eight spots a race right now.
00:08:15
Speaker
Not saying I won't go up. We're guaranteeing people in eight spots are getting paid every race. Nice. this This is not like ah but of the previous years.
00:08:28
Speaker
are Are there a few invite-only races? Yes, where we're paid to show up. But no, we're racing for money now, boys. you know This is an actual race. This ain't paid to show up.
00:08:40
Speaker
yeah It's giving people the incentive to come to these monster truck shows to race during this point series and the payouts. and yeah And I'm looking forward to seeing what you know you guys bring to the table for everybody because from what I'm seeing, not only for us here in Ohio, but like the PA boys, the guys I've become friends with through social media out west in Missouri and everything else.
00:09:08
Speaker
They're looking forward to, you know, kind of where everybody can meet in the middle, you know what I mean? At these races, you guys can find out who's the best of the best without going to a jamboree.
00:09:20
Speaker
So like Florence, per se, I was talking JR just a little bit earlier. ah Yeah. He better win the lottery than some on that one, Corey.
00:09:33
Speaker
I was talking JR earlier, and he's like, You guys come down to Florence. You put on a show like you normally do. Look out because this guy will potentially, you know, we can show him that we're interested and we're willing to come down and race.
Promotion and Community Support
00:09:52
Speaker
He said this could be the new Super Bowl.
00:09:56
Speaker
You never know. me And in this is what it takes. It takes a getting out there. You know, I went to JR about the promotion side of it.
00:10:07
Speaker
I only got one fair this year, but wanted to stay small first. I didn't want to jump in with the big dogs. I've never done it before. Right. Yeah, it's it's something all new on that aspect of that side, man.
00:10:19
Speaker
What's up, Zempius? I just โ I've been putting in the footwork for this too. JR has put a lot more in.
00:10:31
Speaker
I mean, the Buckeye Challenge was his idea. Don't get me wrong. But I went through, I made the rules. Or, not made them. I tweaked them from what I got from him.
00:10:44
Speaker
Because most of these sh trucks were built for Jamboree. Right. And that's where he kind of based a lot of his rules off of. But, there's certain trucks out there that ain't built for Jamboree.
00:10:58
Speaker
So I had to go in tweak it. To make our trucks work. Make these other guys' trucks work. Um... Another race that I want to talk about is LaPorte County Fair in Indiana. 7-18-26. 7-BM race. It's another $1,000 to win race.
00:11:18
Speaker
Another $2,500 purse. that's
00:11:23
Speaker
that's just two of them. I mean, most the Buckeye Challenger races in Ohio are going to be $500 to win.
00:11:33
Speaker
Right now. I mean, that could change. Just be looking out. There's...
00:11:44
Speaker
i can tell you, because I was up at the... ah What they call it? The fair convention where they book all their entertainment. oh yeah I was talking to all these fairs.
00:11:55
Speaker
i I was right there with JR the whole time, to be honest with um The way they talk about him, he's... He's one of the best guys. I mean.
00:12:10
Speaker
And. This is coming from the Fairboards. And they are interested. In these tough trucks. Because of what we bring to the table. For their rough truck night.
Indoor Races and Priorities for Buckeye Challenge
00:12:22
Speaker
We're not trying to take that from them. This is Sideshow entertainment. For the monster trucks. So let them let the big dogs cool down. We'll also give us another place to race with a little bit more money than what the local fairs pay. you know give me Give the guys a chance to really... you know Most of these races are head-to-head.
00:12:49
Speaker
mean There ain't no timers. it yeah strict It's strictly like the Jamboree-style deal. it's You find out who the best truck is when it's all said and done. It's the best way out of the whole ordeal.
00:13:00
Speaker
we're We're not coming... Looking at times. Now, I mean, we buy for qualifying. Don't get me wrong. That's qualifying. But when it comes down to showtime, we're going out there.
00:13:15
Speaker
And this is, we want competitive racing. We're not you're not going to see a rough track. I mean, you're going to see you know a driver track or a speed track.
00:13:26
Speaker
We're not building stuff to break the trucks. And that's where JR is bringing me in. To help with the track builds. So he knows what to do. And what not to do. Because he's a monster truck guy.
00:13:41
Speaker
I mean let's face it. He's building stuff for monster trucks. yeah He don't know what we want. He don't know what we see. You know. That's where.
00:13:53
Speaker
That's why he's kind of. Me and him been really talking here lately. um Another big thing is. To keep in mind.
00:14:04
Speaker
You know, when I say we're going to be limited to these trucks, it's because we're on time crunch. You know, we're we're on hour and a half to two hour show tops.
00:14:15
Speaker
We got to keep that in mind. So not everybody can show up and race for the side show. Right. But with that being said,
00:14:28
Speaker
we are working on some events where it's going to be Buckeye Challenge only. That's going to be in the following year, 2027, if this takes off.
00:14:41
Speaker
So I want the drivers to give it a chance. That's all I'm asking, give it a chance. You show up to one, you don't like it. Hey, cool.
00:14:52
Speaker
But if you do like it, you like the money, let's go. you know um Another big thing is 2027, and twenty twenty seven We're going to have, believe, JR two to three indoor races.
00:15:09
Speaker
And the guys that are in the Buckeye Challenge are getting the first dibs on that. if you show up If you're showing up to Florence June 6th, you automatically take priority over guys that show up for the next race.
00:15:28
Speaker
So we're giving you a little benefit for showing up. Kind of
Benefits of Sponsorships and Exposure
00:15:33
Speaker
basically you show up. It's first come, first serve. If you show up to the race, to the next race, if you got random people show up, you can jump, basically jump, ah jump the line and everything.
00:15:44
Speaker
from what he's told me in just a little bit, we talked this week. Yes. um But like I said, that's really that about the Buckeye challenge. I just want to let everybody know now that I am helping out, but I'm still racing. I'm not going to be,
00:15:59
Speaker
The one call, I'll say I can't be on the track and race at the same time. So I'm not calling the races or anything. I'm just making sure the trucks are safe and trying to make sure we have a good track to race.
00:16:10
Speaker
That's what I'm doing with that. Well, that's the thing. The fair boards, I mean, we've had, I've had you on here. I've had Tyler and everybody else and Brad, a lot of these fairs, they don't fit. They're just there. I get it. It's an entertainment thing.
00:16:25
Speaker
They want to see shit break everything else. But you guys with these mod trucks has got money in these things. You can't be fixing them every fucking week you go out and touch a race because the track's so goddamn rough. You either you either got to baby foot your your guys' as trucks or take that chance and hope you don't break so something, you know, racing hard.
00:16:49
Speaker
But the way you're talking with this platform, this is going to give the guys again that jamboree feel. But it's during fair week in these monster truck shows that you're there to, was like said, besides the side entertainment, why the monster trucks are cool, you got a shot of putting some more money in your pockets on the side there, plus race for something at the end of the year, too, as part of the monster truck show, let alone like Tyler's Ohio series for
00:17:20
Speaker
You know, the fair local fair stuff. You could double, the guys could double dip and hell, we could have it at the end of the year a double champion. Fair champion and a monster truck champion. I mean, that'd be fucking cool.
00:17:32
Speaker
Very right. I don't know where he went. well I mean, um so right now I think we're talking about a thousand for the points.
00:17:45
Speaker
Champion, thousand extra dollars.
00:17:50
Speaker
But there's no entry fee to this, guys. You show up. You race. You pay no money. So basically, the only thing you're going to have... Well, basically, the only other thing you got to pay is your gate to get into the fair, and that's it. That's all you're paying out of your pocket.
00:18:05
Speaker
And that's another nice thing with Full Throttle. A lot of times, in previous years, we haven't had to pay gates. Well, that works out.
00:18:17
Speaker
So, i mean, you literally show up and you race. There ain't no paying. I mean, you want food or something, yeah, you pay for that. right You get to watch a monster truck show and get to race for fuel.
00:18:32
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, and that's better than any of our fairs. yeah Yeah, you're basically getting enough chunk chains to cover, if you're lucky, the fuel costs to drive to the fucking fairs.
00:18:45
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, so that's another thing keep in mind. I mean, like said,
00:18:53
Speaker
We build it. It's there.
00:18:59
Speaker
not going to beg anybody come. Just throw it out there. It's like, this is kind of like the fields of the dream field of dream movie, man. You build it. that They will come or they won't come. I mean, you the opportunities there, um I'm looking forward to seeing it because I know you and me have been talking about, you know, behind the scenes and shit. um I like the idea in a way that it's done because it gives, it gives everybody, you can go race your local rough truck and then say the night before couple of nights later, you got the monster truck show.
00:19:33
Speaker
You got, you got eight guys, maybe 10 guys can race again two nights later and put more money in your pocket than what you ran the previous night for running and stuff you get to double dip racing and keep yourself busy instead of worrying about the next race or whatever right and i mean that's one of the big points here is like like i said we're not building these tracks like the fairs because we don't want carnage we don't want wrecks we want keep the show moving and when we got to get equipment out there and pull the trucks over and drag them off the track, takes time.
00:20:13
Speaker
That cuts into the show. We don't want that. we're look Like I said, it's an hour and a half, two hours. Because we're there for the kids mainly. This is a kid's show. Tyler, from what me and Wes has talked and I've heard through Wes, it's pretty much going to be...
00:20:30
Speaker
I think it's basically a free-for-all on it other than qualifying, right? if With these races, if you show up, because Tyler was
Qualifying Methods and Weather Impact
00:20:37
Speaker
asking about that. so Yeah, so it anybody can show up, but like I said, we're going to have a certain number oops sorry yes a certain number of trucks per race. depending on Like I said, depending on track, depending on how many monster trucks are there,
00:20:59
Speaker
It could vary. I mean, we could have a night where it's eight trucks. We could have a night where it's 14, 16. Like um I said, we'll get the final details throughout the month. I know, like, up in Fort Wayne, me and Jay are going to sit down and have a recorded session that we're gonna post to the page.
00:21:22
Speaker
um I'm sure he'll touch on a lot of this on Thursday as well. um
00:21:30
Speaker
But yeah, qualifying is going to be... not sure if he's going time it or if it's going to be a head-to-head style. um But we're talking about doing that during the pit party, before the race, somewhere in there. Like I said, we're still working little details of that right now. I would honestly... For the qualifying, I would do the time. That way you can have your number one through eight seed where it goes. And then after that,
00:22:00
Speaker
straight in heads up whoever comes to the finish line first be done deal you because that'll settle that'll usually settle everything because trying to do seed everybody if you want to do qualifying and you just do first to the finish line you really can't do a seating bracket wise if you want to go that route right and like i said we're still working out the fine details on on this um He's been crazy getting ready for Fort Wayne because this is a big event.
00:22:30
Speaker
And we we got the tractor pulls. We got the more monsters and the rough trucks. So there's a lot go that he's doing with on that end. And then I've actually got to go up Friday night, um help a couple of the monster trucks out and help with the track.
00:22:47
Speaker
So like said, we we got a lot going on. We're going to really sit down and hash out the details. I think it's cool as hell what they're doing, having the NTPA come in with five classes and of two days of that and two days of monster trucks, man. That's one hell of a horsepower ah indoor show that they're going to have over there. I keep sharing it on Facebook and stuff.
00:23:11
Speaker
I wish I could make the trip, but things happen. They do. So, I mean, i believe next year, 2027, we're looking at doing I'm not quite sure if we're bringing tractors in what we're doing yet, but there will definitely be a full throttle indoor show in Ohio.
00:23:32
Speaker
So there's that. um I'm sure we'll be back at Fort Wayne. I think there's an indoor venue in Kentucky as well. um So he does he he tries to do stuff earlier on.
00:23:50
Speaker
Which helps all of us out. Now we got to play a test before the fair races where we really want to shine. um ye And it's not, we're like I said, it should be relatively easy on the truck other than, well, your loud pedal. How hard do you want to be on the gas pedal?
00:24:13
Speaker
Right. But yeah, it's pretty much whoever shows up, then we're going to qualify you and whatever that set number is for that race is going to be what happens. That's going be pretty badass.
00:24:29
Speaker
yeah Another thing I want to touch on real quick is that, yes, we're planning on most of it being head-to-head races, but depending on track conditions, like Knox County last year.
00:24:43
Speaker
Your mud fest you guys had? Yeah. Yeah. We're probably going to go back to times on that. Just keep everybody safe. Keep truck safe. We don't want anybody reckoning anybody like that. That's
00:24:57
Speaker
the thing. And such so in the summer races during fairs, how the weather is unpredictable. How it could be fine one day and then the day of the race fucking rain moves in like it did at Knox last year.
00:25:09
Speaker
And you guys are in a fucking mud bath. okay Yeah, so I mean, there's going be a little... play there um so i mean don't hold it to just head-to-head racing there could be some time events thrown in there depending on track size and stuff like that because a lot of times we could have this beautiful track planned out in our heads when we get there and we don't have the dirt or we don't have the size to do what we want to do
00:25:40
Speaker
And ultimately, we got to build the monster truck track and then build our track around the monster truck obstacles. So there's a little give and take there.
00:25:54
Speaker
But yeah, man, I mean, that's really in a nutshell, that side of it.
00:26:05
Speaker
um Got any questions? yeah know Anybody have any questions? Feel free to reach out. I will do what I can to get the answers. um Like I said, right now we're still hashing out some details.
00:26:20
Speaker
so So my thing I want to bring up, like he said earlier with this, it's kind of, they want to base it just strictly the modified trucks, but you guys with the stock trucks, I know there's plenty of guys out there that's not some shit that can hang dependent on the tracks and stuff with these guys.
00:26:39
Speaker
It's open to anybody, but like he said, it could be limited to anywhere from six to eight to even up to 14, just depending on time restraint. My thing is when this probably a question everybody's asked and I'm going to bring it up here.
00:26:56
Speaker
So is there on this ordeal just for comfortability for everybody, the way things need to work out, Is it going to be ah guaranteed every time what the guaranteed for first place is going to be at every race for this point series? right now, depending on right now, I know we have three races in the point series are a thousand to win.
00:27:22
Speaker
Um, the other one being Claremont County, which is going to be my first race. Um,
00:27:32
Speaker
The other ones are going to be $500. And they're paying back eight places.
00:27:40
Speaker
I'm not 100% sure what Florence and Laporte are paying back to. i know it's $2,500 purse for each of those. My race, because i'm running two classes up there, um it's going to a...
00:28:03
Speaker
thousand win ah modified five hundred to one to win stock and we're paying back three places as of now and less I get the fair board to throw in some more money But I went three places just for the simple fact is the winnings are For first place second place are a lot more than what we're used to seeing and Right. let said
00:28:33
Speaker
It's kind of hard that for me to โ
00:28:40
Speaker
don't want to put this.
Challenges in Race Promotion and Incentives
00:28:41
Speaker
Go in and I don't want to be like everybody else and pay back 20 places and, you know, you're walking away with 300 for first place and everybody else is getting pretty much shafted. Well, my thing is, Wes, I've been around the rough track game a long time. You know this.
00:28:59
Speaker
Not only as a competitor, but as a fan and spectator and turning wrenches with you guys and everything. The $500 to win kind of deal, so this is just me as myself. you know I think it's a good idea.
00:29:15
Speaker
But some of the people out there will probably still, it's a couple hundred bucks more than what you would get at a local fair. You know what I'm saying? Especially, but, but the perks to this ordeal is like you were saying, majority of these shows are going to be free entry to this. All you got to do is get your ass there and buy your food or whatever else.
00:29:39
Speaker
That kind of, kind of is a kind of a nice thing, but I'm just like, you know, trying to look outside of other people, given their show in a way.
00:29:50
Speaker
on the On the actual Buckeye Challenge, I ah really didn't have any input on pace.
00:30:06
Speaker
Right. scott i'm just saying yeah i'm just saying I'm just saying from a fan and a racer's aspect, and I know a lot of the guys too, including yourself, you know what it's like running these fairs for first place.
00:30:19
Speaker
But my thing is, I'm not trying to be an ass or anything. I love the idea, but at the same time, if it's going to be a monster truck show and you're going to only show up, say you drive three hours, four hours to a show, and you're only making $500, technically you get first place win $500, you damn near only break even on something like it. You know what i mean? For a points race.
00:30:44
Speaker
Yeah, i I get that aspect of it. But also at the same time, it's hard for... How long I want to put this?
00:30:57
Speaker
It's hard for them to pay a lot of money for the side act. Right, because the main attraction is the monster trucks. I get it. But I'm just saying that what you know i if I could afford to run at every local race with you guys, say on that circuit, I think it's awesome because besides...
00:31:17
Speaker
That, like I said earlier, you're getting exposure. if Just looking on his Facebook page, there's people from California, Europe, Japan. I've seen them. There's followers.
00:31:28
Speaker
You're getting worldwide exposure on social media platforms with this. So another thing. So um that's what I look at it as.
00:31:39
Speaker
Right, right. And I'll be honest with you. Since running with Full Throttle, from the exposure because nine times out of ten because of how my truck lands i'm on the poster form um it just i asked him why and he's like well it's kind of a cool photo you know you're up on your front two wheels and i can put a truck underneath of you but just that alone that very small picture of me in the bottom corner of that
00:32:14
Speaker
poster has made my sponsors um it's exposure recognize recognize that hey this is bigger than local fairs like hey he yeah he's on the cover with Bigfoot our sticker is right there with Bigfoot and everybody and it's helped the exposure side of me and my truck you know so like I went to Columbus Indiana last year With full throttle.
00:32:46
Speaker
I was the only modified there. Which they don't have modifieds up there. i I got family up there. So we made it work. with Me and JR made it work.
00:32:57
Speaker
That I could go up there. And man you would have thought. I was driving a monster truck up there. way than That crowd got up. And that's the thing. There's a lot of places you guys are doing. That he's doing shows that bring these trucks in.
00:33:12
Speaker
just the model, you know, the rough trucks, a lot of people don't get to see that shit at their local fairs oh until they experience these shows. But at the same time, like I said, I was just saying from a driver's aspect, fan's aspect, yes, the exposure's there.
00:33:28
Speaker
But if you're only in it for, I get, you got to make money to to while you're racing. But to me, for myself, like you just said too, the exposure, I mean, hell,
00:33:40
Speaker
Not only you, but there's been times where he's had you, Dale, Tyler's trucks, Brad's trucks. Jason's trucks on Fort Wayne. That's what I'm saying. You guys being on these advertisements for this stuff because you guys all race for this, it's going worldwide.
00:34:00
Speaker
Yes, I get know money's not the money's not like a Pro 4 championship, Pro 2 stuff, but you're getting the role with the big dogs of You're sharing the same track with the legends of monster truck racing besides Grave Digger. You're fucking Bigfoot. tell you in those Another thing a lot of these guys that have been on these posters don't realize is, hey, when we go to these fair conventions, so he goes to Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Kentucky,
00:34:37
Speaker
he's using our photos there too. So it's not just, that's what I'm saying. Yeah. And that's it. And last year on a lot of the monster truck shows that he had on there that you guys, he did, he had everybody, he even had Karen's Jeep on there too. Like I said, everybody's been, wherever he's held up with the tough trucks or the monster trucks, everybody's been exposed to different stakes, different, uh,
00:35:07
Speaker
era of people and everything else that are, you know, look forward to, I get some of these shows. It's hard for people to get time off to travel to and everything else.
00:35:18
Speaker
But also at the same time, they're getting the exposure, even if they don't show up, Hey, have they happened to say, come the Knox County fair. I seen that. I seen that Jeep or I seen your truck on, on full throttles advertisement on Facebook at the, you know, the fair here or there.
00:35:36
Speaker
So, I mean, that is, there's the there's there's a plus to this ordeal besides the money situation. It's it's a worldwide exposure. Right. And, you
00:35:52
Speaker
you know, his pit parties are one the best, too. I mean, with us, modified trucks, stock trucks don't matter.
00:36:06
Speaker
He tells us what the kids, you know, we're allowed to let the kids in the trucks. You know, I, I just went and got 1500 business cards with my picture on in the truck name. Nice. Hand out to the kids for Fort Wayne because that's what it's about.
00:36:25
Speaker
You know, we're not just for me and a lot of the other, competitors I'm um'm with. like I know Jason Daniels does it. Dale Dinal with Stonewall. He does it. um
00:36:41
Speaker
We're out here to get the kids involved or let them crawl around and something they're normally not allowed to crawl around in.
Camaraderie and Community in Racing
00:36:48
Speaker
yeah there are few they make us They make us feel like superstars.
00:36:53
Speaker
and yeah you know That's awesome. we I never had so many people wanting autograph And that goes for all the Rough Truck guys. um yeah We were all sharing one marker at one point because we didn't think even think that we were going to ask for our autographs.
00:37:12
Speaker
Between you and between the full throttle Monster Truck Show you guys racing at, the pit parties there, you have to admit Curtin's Monster Truck Show, I know it's a different competitor, but you guys were at these shows, you guys are center stage just like the fucking Monster Trucks, man.
00:37:31
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong, Tim Howard with Jane and Motorsports. But I'm just saying it's fucking awesome to see you guys getting the same recognition and treatment at these shows as the big boys.
00:37:50
Speaker
It's just not the monster trucks. and And I'll speak firsthand from seeing both. Knox and the Croton show. The fucking kids... Soon as they came over to all you guys and your modified trucks, in everybody in and out. Everybody throwing a marker across at each other because either one went dead or somebody didn't have one.
00:38:10
Speaker
But that it just โ and the smile on your guys' faces. It's just priceless when people come up to you. The one that surprised me the most, and out of all people, and you know how he is, is when Dale and Jared got asked their very first time I've ever seen them get asked for their autograph.
00:38:29
Speaker
they were They were more happier than the kids were but when they were signing shit for them. It was just oh it was like, holy shit. It's crazy because, know, when you get into this sport,
00:38:44
Speaker
you don't think that you're going to be sharing this stage with, I mean, Bigfoot. I mean, holy crap. Yeah, on that that or the band, you know, the...
00:38:57
Speaker
the ah Evolution, shit like that. Black Stallion. Just Bigfoot. and who I forget. There's quite a bit of the other. Monkey Business for Full Throttle. Those guys. Yeah. thomas port names yeah Those guys.
00:39:13
Speaker
And you're here right there with them sharing the exact same excitement like you were when you were kid watching them grow Now you're getting to share that with your modified rough trucks with the younger generation.
00:39:27
Speaker
Another thing that Taking in consideration is, you know, these monster truck guys are just like us. I mean, Thomas Borders, monkey business.
00:39:38
Speaker
Yeah, good dude. I like him. He raced modified rough trucks. I mean, they ain't what we have, but they were four-cylinder Rangers that they took and modified to race in this. he he race He raced the same thing we did.
00:39:55
Speaker
And it just so happens that his dad had monster drugs. So he fell into the footsteps. Now his daughter's into the footsteps. um It's nice to see the younger generation get involved.
00:40:07
Speaker
I love it. yeah You know, I would love to be yeah behind the wheel of a monster drug. Unfortunately, yeah. yeah You want to talk about some money?
00:40:18
Speaker
Yeah. We'll what we'll leave that for another day on the money. Yeah, yeah. But, you know,
00:40:27
Speaker
I can't express how much I enjoy running with the monster trucks just for the fact that the the exposure, the kids, the excitement.
00:40:40
Speaker
I mean, it's second to none to me. I mean, my boys, they love it just as much as the other kids. And that right there makes my day.
00:40:53
Speaker
My kids are that way. And like I said, my older two, they're this year they're getting turned loose. We're going to end up sharing what I'm doing. So, I mean, it's one of those deals. It just, it's there and it's great to be able to share that passion, you know, eat just not even rough track racing, just the motor sports passion alone.
00:41:13
Speaker
And with your, yeah with your kids, with your family that, you know, they enjoy it just as much as you do. Right. And, you know, another aspect to this is like,
00:41:24
Speaker
These monster truck guys are willing to help us out and we're willing to help them out. So, I mean, you're getting the wrench on these trucks with them. um And they're going to come over on your truck if you break something and help you too.
00:41:37
Speaker
So, I mean, there's, it's not just the rough truck family at these events. You're getting into the monster truck family too. And that's awesome. I mean, I've helped Bigfoot. I've helped Stomper, ah Invader.
00:41:54
Speaker
He's a lower right team, a country strong. He's going to be up there. I've helped him. yeah I mean, and these are โ But it's just โ like we've talked about previously before.
00:42:08
Speaker
Our community for the off-road, especially Rough Truck, let alone, like you're saying, the Monster Truck community, it's tight-knit, yeah. You have a few that are โ you know But still, at the end of the day, everybody helps everybody when they can. i mean, it's just one of those deals.
00:42:27
Speaker
And you don't get that and in most things. Yeah, and i'll be all I'd be lying if I say I'm not over the moon right now because I'm going to give them my first indoor race.
00:42:40
Speaker
This is first time I've ever been indoors at a race. It's going to be different because the dirt's going to be a hell of a lot softer than what you're used to outside. Right, right. I mean,
00:42:55
Speaker
it's definitely going to be a different experience, and I can't wait, man. ah And like said, there's five monster trucks down there. I got Dale, Jared, and Jason Daniels going down with me.
00:43:07
Speaker
um Now, kind I'm the only four down there, so. I gotta hang with them Chevy guys. We'll see how that happens.
Involvement of Younger Generations
00:43:18
Speaker
That's alright. Hey, the other thing only thing I ask, don't put it on its fucking side. That's all I ask.
00:43:26
Speaker
I won't try to, but head-to-head racing, man. You know me. i mean, I get a little crazy. not only Not only that, you never know what happened. And plus, trying to get the feel for something that's not... the It's a temporary surface compared to being...
00:43:43
Speaker
Being like what you're used to. So it's going to be little different to get to. I mean, it's it's never going to be different. I can't wait. and And J.R. told me there's going to be more. Indoors next year.
00:43:57
Speaker
It just gets me excited. It's awesome to hear this because I've been going back since I've been talking with you on this. Going back, finding old vintage TNT YouTube videos of the indoor monster truck shows that they have truck racing it.
00:44:15
Speaker
You've seen the old Toyota-sponsored Toyota trucks out there, the Broncos, you know doing these indoor races and shit, and now it's becoming popular again this in modern time now, and it's like, dude, this is fucking badass.
00:44:33
Speaker
Yeah. really right It's it sir coming full circle to me because when I first got into this sport, I thought, man, I'm just going run the local fairs around here Now, fast forward five, six years, however long I've been doing it, now now I'm going out of state. I'm going to Indiana twice, three times. Look what you guys some of you guys are doing.
00:44:58
Speaker
You're literally legit. Besides the guys that's done the jamborees, but to actually go and do continue to do the traveling and doing racing outside of the state of Ohio is pretty fucking amazing.
00:45:13
Speaker
I mean, going out of the state, I'm sure... Some of the other guys can attest to it. You got Ohio on your back. So you can't go out there and slack off. Even if you're the only trucker out there, you got to go out there and run it like you.
00:45:33
Speaker
All these years still, I still, to this day, Nick Anderson being our last Jamboree champion. Ohio has been the most dominant fucking racing force in modified rough truck racing for years.
00:45:44
Speaker
And you got to make that stick and prove it when you're out of state racing elsewhere. Because we've been known to whip ass. oh yeah And you know, me, I'm not sure how old most the other competitors are, but me and Logan were the two youngest at the time.
00:46:04
Speaker
Speaking of a good old Oklahoma rough truck racer, what's up, Pat? Yeah. Yeah. ah Hell yeah. me Me and Logan were the two young guys in the sport for a long time.
00:46:20
Speaker
In the modified sport. You guys were the babies in the group. And, you know, it yeah I think I'm still the baby in the sport. I mean, I don't know of anybody younger than me.
00:46:37
Speaker
Brock. But is Brock younger? Yep. bro's Brock's actually the baby in the modified group. How old's Brock?
00:46:48
Speaker
Fuck. You're what? 20... 20... Fuck, how old am I? 26. Going on 27. Go there, man.
00:46:59
Speaker
Hey, what's up, Beltloop? I think he's like 24th or not. Okay. okay Rock, if you're watching, chime in, bud, if I fucked up on your head. But yeah, i think Rock's actually the youngest modified guy right now. I mean, we're right there together. Right. So, I mean, we're the two young guns.
00:47:19
Speaker
I'm still the young gun, even though I've been doing it three years on i onfi truck and now.
Adapting to Changes in Racing
00:47:25
Speaker
I'm fine with that. Yeah. But the thing is, don't let Wes lie to you.
00:47:30
Speaker
He's like us third shift guys that used to work night shift and everything else. but we age We age more than what we actually are. Yeah. yeah But, I mean, also knowing that, it's it's crazy.
00:47:48
Speaker
Because, you know, when I first bought the modified, I never thought, like I said, never thought I'd be going out of state with a modified draft draft. For sure. Because it wasn't a thing other than the Jamborees. It really wasn't a thing you heard about.
00:48:05
Speaker
Yeah, that was the main. And that's the only other time you actually got to be in the same area as Monster Trucks was the fucking Jamborees. Unless you were out in Oklahoma, Texas, you know, out that way where they did do in California and stuff.
00:48:21
Speaker
So it's, you know what I mean? That they had the arena truck races indoors and shit out there during the winter. And now it's coming back all across the whole country. Not just out west, it's everywhere now.
00:48:33
Speaker
And that's awesome for me to see. Because there last year when I had the truck up for sale, i I thought the sport was dying off. Shit, it's actually getting bigger than what it was in the past. it's for now Now I see that yeah in You know, but you got admit, some of the fairs are trying to push us out.
00:48:57
Speaker
I've seen that firsthand. And I got worried. I got, I'm like, oh, ah sir Right. well We were all worried about that. i mean, like already this year, Guernsey County's already dropped their rough truck for the year.
00:49:13
Speaker
Right. I'll tell you, honestly, like me like me and Brad were talking last week, Noble needs to drop their race. That track is, I'm sorry, it was a piece of shit track. Well, I mean, yeah.
00:49:27
Speaker
They only want carnage. That's all that track is built for. us yeah yeah we lost We lost one, but the race I'm putting on in Claremont County never had a rough truck before.
00:49:40
Speaker
So we gained one too. Beltloop, to answer your question, we are talking off-road rough truck racing. Check it out on Peter's Outdoors, my personal channel, Pierce Motorsports and Reptiles. Actually, on here on the network, I have a live video and everything else of the races and stuff on here. You'll have to go through and look in the history.
00:50:05
Speaker
Hell yeah. But yeah, I mean, um but yeah like i said, a fire that's never had rough track is up around Cincinnati.
00:50:18
Speaker
Yeah. Never had a rough truck before, but hey, they couldn't afford the monster trucks, but they still wanted some entertainment. So they said, let's bring tough trucks in or rough trucks. Everybody calls them something different in Ohio.
00:50:35
Speaker
It means the same thing. Oh, for But, so, these fairs are starting to see, don't know if they're seeing it from full throttle, if they're talking to the other fairs, seeing what kind of crowds these races bring in.
00:50:52
Speaker
It's starting to grow to the areas of the state that's never had it before.
00:50:59
Speaker
Pat said he's already done three indoor. I just seen this past weekend that the all one of the famous drivers, he just totaled his truck in an indoor race out. out in was I think it was Missouri this past weekend for an indoor race they had.
00:51:14
Speaker
The yeah Midwest Tough Truck Series started. Yeah, I've seen that. I've seen that. Yeah. So who was the guy coming? That's Pat Pulley. He's the gentleman from Oklahoma that's been following along here.
00:51:29
Speaker
He said he's done three indoor races. Speaking of that, Pat, how did they end up going for you, buddy? If you don't mind sharing with everybody. yeah I've tried to get him to come up on the show and he he's not comfortable with doing it but he's going to support through the chat and I said that's cool I understand yeah I'm still trying to I'm learning to see a lot
Culture and Lifestyle in Racing
00:51:53
Speaker
lot from the other states in rough trucks so I'm still learning the out of staters yeah there's a the thing is besides it being big here for us even with the jambos was going on
00:52:07
Speaker
Out west, out in Missouri, Oklahoma, ever since i YouTube's come along and Facebook, I've been following those guys out that way. and out and Larry McCormick out in California. you are your big yeah Dude, he puts on some hellacious show monster truck and rough truck shows out there Cali.
00:52:28
Speaker
He does. I'm actually friends with him on Facebook. man I was going say, yeah dude, he's a good dude. I've talked to him a few times through Messenger. um I'm trying to get him to come up on the show and stuff. But he's oh yeah he's been he's been busy yeah out there don getting these shows ready. but His shows right there on the beach are awesome looking. like I wouldn't mind going out there right following him. That would be cool as fuck.
00:52:53
Speaker
But yeah, they are... To me, they're still carrying on what we do here and carrying on the lifestyle, the jamboree.
00:53:04
Speaker
But out that way, they've they've got more. It's like more opportunities, more. As much as I had said, there's sponsorship out there for off-road racing.
00:53:16
Speaker
It's notorious for that out there. Right. And around here, we're trying to. Limited to our space. Yeah. Hey, Pat, as long as you had fun and still keep enjoying doing it and getting behind the wheel, man, that's all that matters. Once you start here again having fun, quit having fun, it's not worth doing it anymore. And that's at anything. Oh yeah, for sure. I mean, um like with me, I got, well, when my truck was, so got, uh, frustrated because, you know, I, I,
00:53:50
Speaker
changed, changed, changed, and couldn't get the truck right, and finally got the truck right, and now I'm like, all right, let's go. It's done. like Right. oh yeah but and but and And the thing of it is, is any but any racer in anything, it don't matter, drag racing, rough truck, it's always you see, well, it's for I'm selling the motherfucker, and then the next day, let's go race it.
00:54:15
Speaker
But there is some that get out of it. There is some get out of it because, you know, it's not fun for them anymore. It's too costly. But you always see the outside, the joke, the bitch is going for sale.
00:54:27
Speaker
It's a piece of shit. And then the next day you see it. The problem's fixed and keep going. Damn. Right. There you go, Wes. Man's almost 70 years old and still racing. Hell yeah.
00:54:41
Speaker
Hell yeah. You're like our buddy. You're like our buddy Dwayne. That man, I think he's almost pushing it pushing there. And here in Ohio, and he he still has fun, don't Oh, yeah. I mean, so one it's like no other racing. And, you know, I've always wanted to do dirt track.
00:55:03
Speaker
Don't get me wrong. that That possibility is still there. Hell, yeah. But... This style racing, especially the head-to-head racing, it's the best. I mean, for me, i love the head-to-head racing over the single truck racing.
00:55:23
Speaker
I always have, always will. Oh, yeah yeah, and I'll vouch for you. lot you guys A lot of you guys drive and perform better when it's head-to-head than the time is.
00:55:38
Speaker
You really do. a lot of you. A lot of you do. You got that pressure right there beside you. You hear that guy coming up on you. You see him right there when you're coming around that last corner.
00:55:49
Speaker
So it's all in who has a bigger kahunas. Put that thing pedal to the floorboard and see who flies over that jump first. Oh, yeah.
00:56:00
Speaker
As somebody watching these type of races, there's always more of a thrill to actually see somebody head-to-head, like going down the track together. There's there's a lot more of a thrill to it, man. I love it. Oh, yeah. I mean, for me, I'd rather see a lot more head-to-head, but the fairs, I understand why we can't um and just too many people show up.
00:56:22
Speaker
Yeah. Hartford Fairgrounds, for example, what's happening with 200 entries on a Friday night? Yeah. Let's throw 200 trucks out there. Have 100 head-to-head races and let's drop that down to 50, then 25. Yeah. yeah but but They'd have to be i have to start Thursday night and then Saturday night. Yeah. yeah Yeah.
00:56:46
Speaker
I mean, would it be fun? Yeah, but that's not, that's we can't do that. I understand that. But also, like that's the beauty of like Claremont County.
00:56:58
Speaker
If I only got 50 trucks show up, we're going head to head, boys. yeah. oh yeah Yep. And seeing with being down in Claremont, too, you open the door up for the Midwest boys to come in Kentucky.
00:57:11
Speaker
You know, the guys could travel from Missouri and shit, too. You got the boys from West Virginia. It's all centralized right there in Claremont County. And on Ford. Hell yeah.
00:57:22
Speaker
good That's what I'm saying. that You the only can bring everybody there. The only crappy part about my race is, unfortunately, Knox County decided they wanted monster trucks.
00:57:34
Speaker
Friday night, which just happens to be the same time that Claremont Friday night rough trucks going on. So how or we're going to see how how many trucks I get up there.
00:57:48
Speaker
um I'm hoping for a good turnout. Not going to lie. oh yeah. Find some sponsors that for that race alone, find some sponsors to make the purse bigger to draw them down there.
00:58:01
Speaker
you more I know for a fact I'm already $500 more than what the purse is at the Monster Truck Show. Yeah, but I'm just saying, if you get a little more, that'd really be the... into Oh, I'm sorry.
00:58:12
Speaker
Two trucks show up at the Monster Truck Show and everybody else is not at your show for that. But here's also the big kicker. They're both point races. Oh, ouch. So you gotta to pick your poison on point races. No, it's it's a dropper. It's...
00:58:30
Speaker
oh Oh, so you can use either or. in Yeah, you can go to either or. So my thinking is the fast trucks are going to go Knox. Slow trucks come up me and try to better your points.
00:58:43
Speaker
and then we'll be Yeah. yeah that or or Like I said, you get the hope of ah you get to see some modifieds and shit show up at your show that come from out of state. know there's a couple Indiana trucks coming over.
00:58:58
Speaker
I need some Ohio trucks up there. Hell yeah. there Yeah, I know I got oh three stocks and one modified from Indiana coming.
00:59:11
Speaker
Nice. I'll put the word... Give me the info. I'll get the word out. I'll hit up some of the PA boys and my family yeah boys in West Virginia boys. I'll get them to come to try to get them to that show too.
00:59:30
Speaker
I'm taking my truck up there. Here's the deal, guys.
00:59:36
Speaker
I'm only racing for the points. I'm not racing for money. know. Let's just put this way. If I if i take first place, second place is getting first place money.
00:59:53
Speaker
I'm strictly racing for points. There you go. fire so I don't hurt myself in the point series. There guys money you guys go. You heard it here first.
01:00:05
Speaker
nobody can say here Nobody can say you're playing favoritism with yourself or anything else. You heard it here first. Yeah, yeah um I'm just being honest with everybody. and JR talked about it because I wasn't going to take the trip.
01:00:21
Speaker
I really wasn't because I didn't want any backlash.
Managing the Points Series
01:00:25
Speaker
He goes, you know, drop the If you win first, just drop the money down. or Wherever you land your payout, if you land in your payout, just drop the money down the next guy and go from there. god We'll do that. that way because If I didn't race both them races, that'd be both my drops. right so My question with this points race, is it the person that enters the race or is it the is it the vehicle?
01:00:59
Speaker
How you guys, do you know how you're going to do that yet? Is it going to be the person? say Say if your truck broke and you are in the points race and it's a tight race at the end of the season for first and you were able to borrow somebody else's truck, do you still get to keep your points or does it have to be your vehicle?
01:01:18
Speaker
um To be determined. I'll put it to you that way. The only thing that I perceive, like,
01:01:30
Speaker
Also, if you're running two trucks at that race, which is going be pretty tough to do since it's head-to-head. I don't think anybody will, but the only thing I'm going to say is... know somebody's going to oh yeah Yeah, we all do.
01:01:45
Speaker
The only thing I'm going to say about that is you grant if that's the case, you need to pick the truck you want your points go with that that race. here um Just to make it fair. I'm going to be right for you to get points for both trucks when you're one person. and i'm Right.
01:02:04
Speaker
Well, that's why that's why I was asking because cause I know some point series, you see them where it's the driver and not the vehicle, and then you got ones that it's the vehicle, and you can have 30 different drivers as long as the vehicle and it builds the points for that person that owns that vehicle. You know what I'm saying?
01:02:23
Speaker
I wonder if it's going to driver. Yeah. I'm going to try to push it for the driver. Hell yeah. and what But at the same point in time, like I said, if you bring two vehicles and you're able to race with vehicles, you're going to pick which vehicle you want your points to be in, which i think that is... That's fair. That's honestly fair across the board because you're technically double dipping if you're... Yeah, I think that's...
01:02:57
Speaker
about the best way I can do that. Which, yeah like I said, I don't think we're going run into that issue because no i cause if you're head-to-head and you draw yourself... Yeah.
01:03:11
Speaker
You're going to split yourself in half and drive both of them at the same time. I don't see that being an issue, but we'll we'll just say that for now. um that's Like I said, we're still hashing out the final details. I'm going to say, probably,
01:03:32
Speaker
ah I won't say give us two to three weeks, but in the end of March, we'll probably have a full rule breakdown and full schedule out. Like said, I know, I know I see i because he he I know JR wants to get this weekend over with before he makes any more announcements. I seen we're on full throttle's page said, stay tuned for after this upcoming weekend.
01:03:56
Speaker
And I'm hoping, like I told you, that it'd be awesome to get the opportunity if he decides to Thursday night. I'd love to have him up here before the weekend show. Hell yeah. Have you back up here. I'll find out tomorrow or if he hits me up later tonight or whatever.
01:04:13
Speaker
it'd be cool to have you guys both up here. so Right. well When I talked to him, e say he said he wanted โ he you wanted him to come on and he seemed interested in doing it
JR's Influence in Race Promotions
01:04:26
Speaker
just because most of our guys watch.
01:04:30
Speaker
andp please And that's a good platform. That's why I would love to have him up here. Cause I pretty much have everybody here in Ohio that I know that race, we know that races modified and stock guys.
01:04:44
Speaker
They're always on here. if When I have one of you guys on here, will be able to, He will be able to explain more, and if he wants to give some details first here or whatever, it's up to him. I'm going to leave the floor to him if he comes on the show. After we're done like chat after we're done you know later on tonight, I'm going watch his podcast, see what he's saying about Fort Wayne, just so yeah I can kind of get a little inside s scoop. i've Actually, that's what I've been sitting here kind of doing with it on subtitles right now. yeah Right, right. But, no, man, I mean, it's
01:05:24
Speaker
It's definitely big step for us in the Rough Truck community. went ahead, i guys like I said, I went ahead and took that leap, I guess, is the best way to put it, to try to give us more races that pay more.
01:05:40
Speaker
I'm going to work on getting more spots paid, but for my first race, I just want to keep it real simple, real easy. Well, the thing of it is, really, the thing you got to think about, it like me and you talked behind the scenes personally between you and me, this is the first year for this. So yes, you're going to have bumps in the road.
01:06:00
Speaker
You're going to have issues. but if But if you got somebody to... besides JR running, you know, the monster truck show and coming up with the idea, but having somebody on the inside like you and Jason and anybody else that, you know, wants to get their hands involved in this to give them pointers, it kind of takes the load off his shoulders.
01:06:21
Speaker
He can focus on the monster truck side of it. Why you got you and stuff, you know, here on the the rough truck side, but you're conjoined together, you know, it kind of just, it eases him, but at the same time, it's helping everybody else too because he's right and that's uh kind of where i stepped up to the plate uh exactly do that for him so we could get this rolling i mean getting full throttle tough trucks as you guys seen that's what i my show is going be ran under um in any
01:07:00
Speaker
other shows coming we're still booking fairs right now i mean it is absolutely crazy if you if you actually look up uh the top monster truck promoters jr's at number three yep nice so i mean you got monster jam number one this is not this is just not in like the state of ohio indiana this is in the country this the country Yeah, so you got Monster Jam and Hot Wheels are only two above me.
01:07:34
Speaker
Yeah, nice. I grew up with Monster Jam. That's fucking awesome. Right, and it's... It's amazing. Yeah, man.
01:07:45
Speaker
And I didn't quite realize he was that big until I seen that post. And actually, ah up at the Columbus Fair convention, i got to sit down with JR and Roger Gillespie From ah Bigfoot.
01:08:01
Speaker
Nice. And we had conversations about promotions and stuff like this. um And it's absolutely mind-blowing the amount knowledge JR has and what he wants to do to try to keep not only our trucks from breaking, but the monster trucks from breaking.
01:08:21
Speaker
He don't want to break trucks. And that's what keeps the show going. And that's the thing you got to do. I mean, I get it. I mean, there's and that there's a lot of imitations out there.
01:08:34
Speaker
um My thing is, is promoters getting into this stuff. And I've seen both sides of both sides of the ordeal. I got my first taste of helping put on one of these shows with, you know, J&M and Tim and all.
01:08:51
Speaker
Dude, that's a fucking headache. Yeah. Yeah. it really if People don't realize that what goes on behind the scenes before the show starts to make sure everything goes like it should go. It's fucking nuts.
01:09:07
Speaker
Even yeah before the day of the event. You've got to go to these conventions like and talk to these fairs. but They're going to ask you all these random questions that you don't know how to answer.
01:09:22
Speaker
the All the fair conventions, your sponsors that you're trying to get to help you know ease your wallet a little bit besides the fairs bringing you in.
01:09:33
Speaker
Bring in sponsors so you can give that little extra or something or even just giving something back, not just money. For sure. I'll throw it out there like Hot Shot Seeker.
01:09:46
Speaker
Hell, they may not give you money or something, but who says they don't give you a case of diesel motor oil or you know oil and transmission fluid and some shirts and stickers as one of the price packages? you know some People like that, or Riley's, or you know anybody that Trump's on board.
01:10:05
Speaker
Just makes the perks a little better. yeah like Up there in West Virginia, they have money. They get payout. But they also gave us hats, goodie bags, the all kinds of crap.
01:10:18
Speaker
That's what I'm saying. That makes it worth going to a race when you know besides getting the money, you're getting a little extra instead of like a thank you for showing up and supporting my race and here's what my sponsors are giving to you.
01:10:33
Speaker
Right. And like at West Virginia, everybody got something. Yeah. It may not have been money, but hey, here's a gift bag with coasters, pins, this, that, and the other.
01:10:45
Speaker
I've seen that. Dude, it was neat. The shit the guys were showing on the pictures. You wouldn't think that. No. I mean, it's just a little hole-in-the-wall fair up there. how yeah With a thrown-together race, basically. that It's not really thrown together, but it was put together by a you know couple people and everything, promoter, and it brought the Ohio guys down and you guys put on a show for them.
01:11:11
Speaker
And that's why they want to continue doing that shit. Yeah, I mean, and that's the thing. If we don't put on a show, they don't want us. So we got to go out there and we got to, you know, drive these trucks like we drive them out the fair race.
01:11:26
Speaker
Or drive them, you know, you got drive these trucks to make them want you back. You know, another thing is like, if, like at Knox County, prime example is,
01:11:39
Speaker
The monster trucks can't really do anything out there because how muddy it is. But the rough trucks came in. Saved the show. And we put show on. Yeah, saved the show. all be all because of the All because of track conditions. I mean, you guys, in a way, with that, depending on how muddy it is, you guys are capable of doing a little more than those big trucks are because fuck the weight of them and some of those tires, people don't realize, too, a lot of these monster truck guys,
01:12:09
Speaker
They're hand-me-down shit. People don't realize that to keep their operations going. just old tractor tires. Yeah. They don't. They cut down. they're They're not mud cleats. No. So it's harder for them to maneuver on mud, unlike you guys with the rough trucks has got, you know, the buckshot knobbies and shit like that and stuff yeah where it can throw mud.
01:12:32
Speaker
So, yes, you guys learned you guys were the show, like you said, at the monster truck this year last year at the Knox. If it wasn't for you guys, that could have been a flop.
01:12:45
Speaker
Yeah, and that's another thing I like point out there is it's not always, all the spot is not always going to be on the monster truck. 75% the time, 80, yes. But there's that 20% where, hey, boys,
01:12:59
Speaker
but there's got twenty per percent where a boys Yeah, we're the show tonight. let's Let's really show them what we can do. and And that's the thing. is and I've seen it in the past, even before you know you got with Full Throttle.
01:13:15
Speaker
I know I'm bringing it up again. Tim Howard, as much as I love the dude, you guys in the rough truck racing that he puts on out there, I've heard everybody. That was the best part of the show.
01:13:28
Speaker
Best part of the show. Best part of the show. Even last year. You guys, your buddies put on a hell of a show. I had people coming up to me and Renee. Hey, thank you guys. You know, it's like when, because they've seen us with them and stuff, you know, with Al and all those guys.
01:13:43
Speaker
Hey, tell your friends and stuff. you They did awesome. We love the monster truck show, but man, the rough truck racing was awesome. That right there myself makes me feel good because, but because I'm associated with you guys and I've got random strangers. Hey, tell your friends they did awesome.
01:14:02
Speaker
you know, because they didn't catch you guys or something like that. Right. And I mean, that's the thing of it. And, you know, yeah, I get it. We're to the sideshow.
01:14:15
Speaker
And that's, that's one of the big things here is we're not going to make what the monster trucks makes. We'll never make what the monster truck makes much as I want. Say it'll happen. They won't ah just because they got a,
01:14:32
Speaker
they' figure operation They're They got a pedestal they got live up to, is how i want to put it. and And it's the truth. It is. You're not wrong, man. There's no shame in the game.
01:14:43
Speaker
These guys are are the main eventers. You know, you guys are the co-main event. And once again, it does come back. Sometimes you guys end up actually being the main of event, depending on the track, the weather condition.
01:14:58
Speaker
But most of the time, it's weather condition that plays a key factor in what happens during that time. right Right. in like Like I said, man, when we are the show, it's awesome.
01:15:12
Speaker
I love it. Because you can you can look up in the crowd and see it. Oh, yeah. You can hear them. It's constant. and And the thing is, is i've and I've got to experience it firsthand last year, being on the sidelines.
01:15:27
Speaker
The rough trucks, everybody was loud and proud the whole time. Hell yeah. Monster trucks come out. Yeah, they were. The freestyle was like the loudest the night that they were.
01:15:39
Speaker
But the. Hell yeah. Mount Vernon last year. You guys, the crowd that stuck around because of the rain. the The rough trucks were the show again. All because of the weather and plus the way the track was set up.
01:15:53
Speaker
You guys handled it. Yes, it sucks. You're not that, like you said, that pedestal of being a main eventer like a lot of the guys are used to when the jamborees were on because technically the rough truck was you know the bread and butter of the jamborees as much people won't admit it.
01:16:15
Speaker
The fair now, bread and butter is the main event, but now you're throwing in the rough trucks with the monster truck shows? Fuck, people are getting double the dose of these modifieds And stock guys, even if they show up, getting a double dose of their thrill of fast-paced, high-flying, great time, and seeing the camaraderie out there with everybody.
01:16:42
Speaker
Now, one thing that JR does, and I really in enjoy, he brings us out for introduction. So we kind of get to be on that same level as the monster truck guys. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
01:16:56
Speaker
We get introduced. Our trucks get introduced right beside the monster trucks. Yeah. So it's... So with JR, I'm not saying bad about any other promotion out there. No, it's just every promotion does their thing different, but it's nice.
01:17:15
Speaker
You guys are, like you're saying, and I get what you're saying, and that people take this the wrong way. You guys are getting the same treatment as an introduction As the monster truck guys.
01:17:28
Speaker
They don't treat you no different. you're just You're the baby version of those monster trucks. That's all you love. There's a video out from my Holmes County race. Yeah, I've They call me the mini monster. Or little monster. I can't remember. The little but the little monster that could is one one of the titles that was on one of the videos. that Yeah. That right there. mean.
01:17:52
Speaker
andly yeah that right there i mean You watch that video and you hear the crowd. I heard the crowd through my truck and you've been beside my truck. It's a loud truck.
01:18:06
Speaker
Especially wide open. Yeah. That is an awesome sound to hear. thank You can hear all them people screaming over the roar of your engine while you're racing.
01:18:20
Speaker
Yeah. It's second to none. And then, like,
01:18:28
Speaker
We get entered or ah interviews too. Just like the monster trucks do. ah If you're the fastest qualifier. If you win. If you're second.
01:18:39
Speaker
You get. ah You know. You get interview. You get the treatment like you're a superstar man. But the best part of these.
01:18:50
Speaker
Monster truck shows. That include the rough trucks. Especially when it's a pit party. Included with everybody. JR does it.
01:19:00
Speaker
J&M does it. I think those are the two best things for you modified guys. any Actually, any rough truck racer is because you're included with the monster truck guys. You're not push clear over into the back 40. Oh, yeah, those are our rough truck racers.
01:19:18
Speaker
No, you're sitting right there lined up right there next to them or right straight across from them. And everybody gets to be in your truck, gets to get an autograph from you guys, get their pictures taken with your truck. we have Just like the monster truck.
01:19:33
Speaker
They're the only two promoters that I've ever been to a monster truck show that does this shit. The only two. And it's awesome. I don't know if I would still be running with monster trucks if it wasn't for that aspect of it.
01:19:49
Speaker
You're feeding, like you said earlier, and we've all agreed, you're doing this, you're feeding the younger generation yeah to keep our sport fucking going.
01:19:59
Speaker
Yeah. And that's what yeah we have to do. We have to do this or it's not going to be here. I don't know who started it when this sport started, but I remember when I was a kid going to Hartford Fair and watching this sport.
01:20:16
Speaker
And that's what made me get into it. Hmm. Toot my own horn, Knox County Fairboard, Johnny Curtis and Johnny Curtis Jr. and Ray Scholes and Adam Blankenhorn put this idea to fruitation and look what it's blown up to.
01:20:30
Speaker
It's gone statewide. yeah and now But the the mark the tough truck scene has been out west, out in the Midwest and everything out that way, California and stuff, for a long time.
01:20:46
Speaker
The Jamborees was there, but fair-wise, Like I said, not to hit the horn, but Knox County made it to where the state of Ohio exploded at local fairs for the rough trucks here in the state.
01:21:00
Speaker
And it's still growing. Like i said, we got a new fair this year that has never ran a rough truck. That right there tells me this sport is still going strong and growing in the state of Ohio.
01:21:13
Speaker
Look at what's coming up this year. These other mods that everybody thought that was gone are getting new drivers, younger generations getting in. Even the stock classes and the cheater stock are getting into this sport that we didn't think of.
01:21:27
Speaker
What mods are coming? that there was soon you There was well two last year was at Mount Gideon. The old Joker truck, the Explorer.
01:21:40
Speaker
God. ah One is Cecil's. It was Cecil's buddy ended up buying it. And then there's two more that are in the works right now getting restored to come back out. One of them is a buddy of mine that's ah putting one back together that's going to come out hopefully this summer. I've been helping him turn wrenches on it.
01:21:59
Speaker
I got you. So. But yeah, I mean, did this. It's crazy, dude. I mean. Hell yeah. It was.
01:22:11
Speaker
you know, fans don't see is behind the scenes of these trucks. Like I've been like me my dad, we've been in the shop.
01:22:22
Speaker
We're in the shop all weekend. Uh, getting this ready for, by the way, truck sounds good for the first official, uh, video on your actual Facebook page, man.
01:22:35
Speaker
Hell yeah. I appreciate it. So yeah, we, we, We got her going. She's ready. Just needs a bath. Weather didn't quite cooperate today with us.
01:22:46
Speaker
And the thing of it is, yeah, well you may not be I may not be at your guys' a shop to show the trucks or anything, or but I get to share. I'm sharing my videos, my view of your guys' stuff at the fairs that I do on my personal YouTube and on my Facebook.
01:23:02
Speaker
Plus, I'm giving you guys the platform. Look what you're doing. I'm giving you guys, besides... My sharing my love for motorsports, I get to share my friend's passion for this shit.
01:23:14
Speaker
You guys are getting exposure up here too, and we're enjoying talking about it, what you guys have done different to your truck or added something or you picked up some new sponsors or your new you know your goals for the new year of racing, and it's blowing up, and i' and I'm loving it.
01:23:34
Speaker
I'm excited i' was excited for this season to see what everybody's doing. I mean, I've got a bunch of guys. I mean, another, I guess we should get back to my goals. cause I never told you my goals this year.
01:23:48
Speaker
But, you I want one first place finish out of there. That's my goal. We're going to say it's not small, but we're not going to huge here. <unk> want one first place finish out of there. That's what I'm going for this year.
01:24:02
Speaker
Key goal, stay off your side.
01:24:08
Speaker
I'm just throwing it out there. Just stay off your damn side. man, I'll tell we'll try, but it's rough truck. It's rough truck.
01:24:21
Speaker
And, you know, that's my goal this year in all reality. I just want one first place. I'll tell you what would be sweet. in Your first place would be your hometown track. Yeah, i'll take I would take Croton or Knox County.
01:24:37
Speaker
But, you know, anywhere. but Anywhere first place would be awesome, but it'd be just like the cherry on the pie if you could get either one of those. i mean, that would all yeah be right there for you, dude. Oh, it has some sentiment to it, for sure.
01:24:51
Speaker
And, you know, we did the ah did some upgrades to the truck. We got some big plug wires, went to no Newer box style coil.
01:25:03
Speaker
um so you do A couple other things. Hell yeah, man. There could be more coming later on. ah I guess it's about good as time as any. I need shout out my sponsors.
01:25:17
Speaker
Go right ahead. We got Shacklefurt's Disposal. um Ohio Tire Sales. Complete Towing. Let me see here.
01:25:30
Speaker
high class grass. Yeah. High class grass and long hair. Um, uh, ah we got, there could be some new ones coming. They haven't for sure gave me the word yet. Uh, I've got to thank my family for putting up with it.
01:25:48
Speaker
Uh, my dad for being the brains behind the truck. Uh, you know, without him and stuff, we wouldn't, it wouldn't be where it is today.
01:25:59
Speaker
Uh, And of course, everybody that roots for me and trucks got a name on it called Grandpa's Wings. And that's for anybody that's ever lost grandfather out there. I mean, chuck truck name came to me when I bought the Jeep.
01:26:18
Speaker
And I lost both my grandfathers in a five-month span. i lost one previous to that, but lost two of them in a five-month span. And mom's...
01:26:30
Speaker
My mom's dad, he was a dirt tracker. He actually helped rank a shotgun speedway. Okay. So, there's meaning behind that name. and Like I said, that's for anybody ever lost a grandparent.
Sentimental Value and Family Influence
01:26:48
Speaker
I'll even go as far as grandparent or loved one.
01:26:52
Speaker
There's a reason that truck's named that and why it's got wings on it. I try to make them proud every time that truck leaves trailer. that's like i That's like I did with my when I was derbying. Everybody made fun of because I had the initials of BRB.
01:27:08
Speaker
It was for my grandfather and my two uncles, their names, and it just happened to work out their first letters of their names as the B-ranked back ordeal. But that's what that was for if when I derbyed and shit. that's I never ran a number. I always ran ran that because I was so close to those three, and it was My mom's dad and her two older brothers, the shitty part is my grandfather never got to see me do any motor sports stuff because he passed away like right before I turned 10 years old. So, I mean, but my other two uncles got to see me do shit before they died.
01:27:46
Speaker
my I actually grew up watching my ah my grandfather be a mechanic on trucks like this, man. ah Hell yeah. Well, he's passed now for a couple of years.
01:28:00
Speaker
So, I don't know if you ever really paid attention in my truck, Chris, but um if you look on the passenger side, there's a white 33W sitting right there beside me.
01:28:14
Speaker
yeahp that That was my granddad's number on his dirt car. Nice. and i was always i never i never asked. I've always wondered what that was for, but now that I know...
01:28:26
Speaker
I understand. now Now I understand why you pad it before you get into the truck too. Yeah. so That explains why you touch that side now. Another reason is couple weeks before he died, he actually laid that number on that panel.
01:28:45
Speaker
Really? So I got the sticker made and took the panel off the truck. I took it to him and I told him Sorry.
01:28:57
Speaker
Tear jerks me a little bit. but You're good, buddy. It's all good. I understand. oh I told him he always be riding shotgun. He's got the best seat in the house.
01:29:11
Speaker
so yeah Yeah. Yeah. you guys has been I'll be honest with you.
01:29:20
Speaker
He's been your guardian angel, man, in your rollovers. I'll be honest. the Oh, yeah yeah. I mean, Yeah, he's definitely watching over me, and you didn't really, you probably seen me, but you didn't really know me when he was still able come to races. It was when I was running, I ran that red Jeep, and then Spencer's modified, and then the Tyler Peters old Jeep, he was with me. I remember Tyler's old Jeep. That's actually when I first met it was Tyler's old Jeep.
01:29:50
Speaker
Yeah, so you've probably seen him once or twice out there. He was the one normally holding my truck there for me. He'd always jump up, give me advice there on the trailer before I pulled down or right there in the staging lanes.
01:30:06
Speaker
Oh, yeah. But, yeah, it... There's... Like I said, that that panel, if that truck... Anything ever happens that truck, that panel stays with me no matter what it'll go on, whatever the hell I decide to do next.
01:30:20
Speaker
um But, yeah, it... That truck right there I actually bought when he was getting through the final months of his life.
01:30:38
Speaker
He never got to see it race. eight In person. So, the first time I raced that truck, which you remember, of Morrow County.
01:30:53
Speaker
I should have never been racing that night. ah That's when we really found out that Grandpa was bad. and He looked at me and my mom and said, you're racing tonight.
01:31:07
Speaker
said, I don't care. You're not stopping because of me. Take that truck up there and go race. and mom Mom's like, alright, he'll go. well i'm staying.
01:31:18
Speaker
He's like, no. I need to be able to see it so you're going to videotape. Okay. So off we went. So I was in the right state of mind. And I went out there and did that. And then he kind told me what I did wrong.
01:31:36
Speaker
He's good at that. He's good that. But yeah, I mean, so yeah, there's there's definitely a reason the truck's named what is named. And like you said, and it it's been good to me. And I think there's a lot of reason behind that.
01:31:52
Speaker
It just so happens, his number and the name of the truck. Not only that, I'm going to tell you right here and now, you may not believe it or not, guarantee you, he's the reason you pulled that bitch down from being for sale last year and continued racing.
01:32:06
Speaker
you you You can either admit it or not. You know damn well he had a part in it playing in your head. Would Grandpa want me to do this? Well, oh yeah. i get you were going to go with it.
01:32:20
Speaker
So, let's let's talk about that for a minute. It's funny you say that because of the last things he said to me is want to see what you can do on the dirt.
01:32:33
Speaker
So, the plan was to sell that truck and get a dirt car. Gotcha. Okay. Nice. So,
01:32:43
Speaker
I was in the process and then I was like, then I talked to JR and It's like, man, right I really don't want to see you anywhere. You do too good for me and this that. I said, well, man, we started talking and this is how the whole promotion deal came up.
01:33:01
Speaker
So, after I final yeah that's after our finalized the promotion deal, said, alright, I want to keep this truck. Not saying that there ain't something in the works for the ground vit class coming up.
01:33:14
Speaker
Yeah, at the help top. Yeah, they're not saying there ain't something in the works there, but We're not going to get too far into that right now. But let's just say I got some good buddies that might make that happen.
01:33:31
Speaker
That'd be awesome. But yeah, man. So that's one thing I really like to point out. People ask me about the name all the time. I know you haven't yet, but yeah.
01:33:46

In the pit parties, that's one of the most frequently lee asked questions to me is Why is it called Grandpa's Wings? And the funny thing is, I got ble it i got i gotta to give props to of my grandmother's friends. my grandpa's friends was one of One of their friends actually came up with the name. cause We posted up to Facebook because we were struggling on the name.
01:34:14
Speaker
Nothing sounded right to us and she posted that name and we're like, that's it. Yeah. Need a little help on it. and we got It was the first comment too.
01:34:26
Speaker
So I was actually going to go with what my grandpa originally said. Oh crap. Can't think of it. Hillbilly Deluxe or yeah Hillbilly Deluxe.
01:34:41
Speaker
I think is what it was. Hell yeah. But she said that name A good friend of mine, Mary Wagle. And the rest is history on the name.
01:34:56
Speaker
And my grandpa rode bikes, so that's why it's got the Harley wings on it. Nice. So, yeah, it's... If you look in the picture on the for the thing, you'll see the Harley wings.
01:35:13
Speaker
But, yeah, I mean... He had a big part to do racing. actually started motor. I didn't really start racing motorsports. But a. A go-kart.
01:35:26
Speaker
Track. One the little go-kart tracks. Where you pay to race. oh He seen me all night. And he goes. You need to get on the dirt.
01:35:38
Speaker
So from that day on. I knew I was going to be racing something. Just didn't know what. Oh, yeah. Got somebody from Missouri. Man, that sucks, Kato, that the they're closing down a lot of your guys' dirt tracks out there in Missouri, man. That sucks.
Decline and Challenges of Dirt Tracks
01:35:56
Speaker
Yeah, here here in ohio here in Ohio, the only track I know of is... portsmouth raceway down there in portsmouth ohio there it's up for sale but a lot of the big other tracks around here man or they're got new owners or they're sinking money into them and it's going strong so that's for sure yeah i mean hell hilltop they just dumped a bunch of money just within a year of redoing the whole track it i can't wait to go this year and check out a friday night race uh
01:36:29
Speaker
To see in person what they've done. he yeah Oh, yeah. yeah My buddy Robin Dustin raced Hope and Will modified up there. Okay.
01:36:40
Speaker
I've heard the name. raced with Grandpa back in the day. ah so I still get around to dirt tracks. Hopefully, like I said, they should get to race.
01:36:50
Speaker
irickin I'll show my age here right now. I remember when Lakeville used to be a popular Friday night adventure. If you weren't racing Hilltop or you were racing Lakeville, depending on what race points races was going on or races at those tracks.
01:37:07
Speaker
And then Saturday night you went to Wayne County and Muskegon County for, for certain races. I mean, it was back in the day, it was huge around here. You had, you had your choices. or You still do, but it just depends on the points and everything else. So.
01:37:23
Speaker
Oh, yeah, that's โ especially with this Crown Vic class, I think Midway's even talking about bringing them on. Mansfield's actually got a strictly a points โ a big money race for it this year, I've seen on the schedule. I've seen that.
01:37:38
Speaker
And they're bringing Lucas Oil in there too. Yeah. Well, matt matts Matt's pulling his strings for โ that big first but invite race is going to have some heavy hitters for the late models in there.
01:37:52
Speaker
I used to pick dirt out of my ears for days. Now i repo cars from the houses they built on top of the raceway. Damn, man. Jeez. That's like a shock. I mean, they got closed down whenever. I don't know if it's still... Farmland. over and now or not It's all farmland.
01:38:13
Speaker
Farmland. Just like they did with Lakeville. The Amish has got Lakeville. And here, actually, in Mount Vernon... We still got remnants of the Mount Vernon dirt track up by our old radio station. that's still You can walk right down in the bowl of it still and everything.
01:38:30
Speaker
But yeah, that's funny there's a lot of history that people don't realize that for dirt tracks that was here in Ohio back in the day that I've looked up and I'm like, there's no way these certain towns had this shit. And sure enough, they did.
01:38:43
Speaker
so yeah. I mean... Ohio got big into it and then it kind of when when stuff began to get stupid is when it the smaller tracks died off. Now they're bringing the Crown Vic class back in which is supposed to be like a budget class.
01:39:03
Speaker
no ma' But yeah like when street stocks were actually street stocks and we ran them around here. Kato I do a show every Monday night where we talk anything racing buddy.
01:39:17
Speaker
This show is strictly all motorsports stuff. It's every Monday night at 8 o'clock. so Hell yeah. But, yeah, when the street stocks were actually street stocks, it seemed like that's when all the tracks were big around here from what I know old racers told me.
01:39:36
Speaker
And then when that began to become the street stocks we know today and everything got to be, you know, stupid. uh costly is when the smaller tracks start dying down from like I said racers passing the information down to me.
Significance of Small Tracks
01:40:00
Speaker
nice I don't know if you heard anything else about when these smaller tracks are dying or not Chris but that's kind of the information i got from older racers.
01:40:18
Speaker
Oh, yeah, there's some of them. I mean, I didn't know.
01:40:26
Speaker
But, yeah, there's there's a few that are still kind of doing and everything.
01:40:33
Speaker
I mean, Hilltop's probably one of the smaller ones. Milltop and Midway probably two smaller ones. Hilltop's actually the smallest track in Ohio.
01:40:44
Speaker
hope but it's one of the, it's fast though. I'll say that.
01:40:52
Speaker
Especially when they had the micros down there last year, the micros race. That was interesting. And then they always have a good mix in there.
01:41:09
Speaker
They had a couple heavy hitters down there for one of the late model races. It kind of got a little hairy there at the end of it. It's pretty funny.
01:41:35
Speaker
Just ignore the ones in the comments and everything else, man. But yeah, I'm looking forward to it and everything else, so.
01:41:46
Speaker
See what... Wes just dropped down.
01:41:53
Speaker
I'm sorry about that, Wally.

01:43:56
Speaker

01:44:08
Speaker
