D20 radio, your game is roll.
00:00:26
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, a D&D 5th edition actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I am your dungeon master, Eric. And I'm Philip. Hi, Randy. I'm Jeff. And welcome to another episode. Gentlemen, what happened last time?
Encounter with Giants
00:00:41
Speaker
Man, a lot. We fought a pair of giants.
00:00:47
Speaker
We definitely deftly ambushed and killed them very quietly. None were the wiser. Particularly our party got no wiser. We learned nothing.
00:01:03
Speaker
Yeah, we had a messy fight with some giants that we stumbled our way through and then we watched a Kangaroo court Basically of giant higher Giants one was executed and now we are oh we we did the trick with the door we got shackled and then Barry cut himself and
00:01:27
Speaker
We got got through a trapped magic door Yes And we discovered the name of the giant the current fire giant leader is Sinus threat shadow stalker everybody hates shadows around here
00:01:44
Speaker
I'm gonna say, maybe we need to ally with that dude. Well, maybe not so much you, Drakir. But yeah, so we just made, we left off with making the decision to follow the people that were carrying the body away.
Decision to Follow the Corpse
00:01:58
Speaker
Follow that corpse. For entombment. Yes. And I say, hey, Drakir, try not to steal this one. Okay, so. Don't think a fighter giant corpse could be useful. I can say that I genuinely do not know.
00:02:13
Speaker
If we hadn't tinted up those two dead giants, we might have cut off their hand and used them to get through the door. I mean, yeah, sure. If, if, if some butts were candy and nuts and we'd all have a good Christmas, but what's Christmas? I don't know. It sounds like a fun word to say. What's a center threat? The name of a giant. All right. Anyway, this has been fun. I was just looking at this conference.
00:02:42
Speaker
these two a-holes talking about nothing of consequence. Okay, so if you all are going to be sneaking through this giant hall.
Stealth in the Giant Hall
00:02:51
Speaker
Oh, as we begin, Dracure would like to place Hunter's Mark on Sinistret because it will give me advantage on roles to track him. What's the range on that? A whole lot, but let me give you a specific number here. Does it even have a range? I thought it was a time thing.
00:03:12
Speaker
It is timed, but it does have a range on it, but I think it's pretty long. Because this hall was 500 feet long. Range is 90 feet. Okay. So no. We're not close enough yet. Okay, so stealth checks to make it through the hall. Plus 10, right? Yes. Wait, I want to hear Phillips because I want to laugh too. Well, Dracarys is very stealthy.
00:03:43
Speaker
Barrick rolled a natural one. Oh wait remember when you were nice and if the party did well as a whole everybody made it through because I rolled a 36 and I'm happy to give like the five of those to Barrick. I guess Orgev should roll as well. How did Drakir do? Drakir passed he said. Wow Drakir got
00:04:09
Speaker
Twenty something. Twenty six. All
Choosing to Confront the Giant
00:04:17
Speaker
right. What did Eric trip over and what do we have to do now? OK. But but even then enough. Is that a fumble if if the numbers if the final number is relevant, it would be a 14. OK, I'm going to give you all a choice. Either.
00:04:39
Speaker
You can allow the failure to, I'm going to say you all begin kind of skirting the side of this hall, making your way to the far end. Oh, that's right. There just spares now. I forgot. But like I said, it's the far end about 500 feet away. So you're having to cross in front of doors and hallways and things like that and be mindful of the comings and goings of the Giants.
00:05:07
Speaker
Essentially, you all hear a giant about to re-enter this assembly hall area, and all of you duck out of the way except for Beric is just a little bit slow. So, you all can pull him into a room and close the door behind you, and you won't be noticed, but you will be in this room without any idea of what's in there, or you can allow the failure to occur and the giant to spot Beric.
00:05:38
Speaker
I mean, I'm just going to say if we duck into a room, we lose sight of our quarry. And also, that's, you know, that might be boring of us sitting just in a dark closet. It might be a dark closet, right? It might be could be could be six giants. The devil, you know, is better than the devil. You don't. Well. I was going for the exciting option, but. Sure, I guess if you want to bring reason into it.
00:06:06
Speaker
Would Dex or Drakir have any idea what was in this room based on what we watched? Were that forgetful? That's the cost. We didn't see it. We didn't see it into any of the other rooms. I know. It might be a hallway, it might be a broom closet, it might be the barracks. I don't want to lose sight of the corpse. You're right. I vote getting spotted. That's my vote.
00:06:32
Speaker
Let's do it. OK, what was your actual role, Barak 14, you said? 14. OK. So like I said, you're just a second too late ducking into the shadows need and this giant spots your movement.
Using Spells to Evade Giants
00:06:49
Speaker
Oh, OK, hold on, hold on. OK.
00:06:52
Speaker
Is the narrative here that everyone else ducked into this room, but Barak is slow? No, you all ducked into the shadows because you still have the pass without a trace thing, so they're not going to spot your tracks. So there was like an alcove or something, but there's a door nearby. So, OK, that's the that's the give and take. OK, I was just trying to get a picture of what the situation was.
00:07:17
Speaker
He saw something move and is approaching the area that you all are hiding in trying to investigate. So you do have an opportunity to do something before he spots the group. Okay. Drakir will cast... What's the giant wearing? Plate armor. Plate armor. Okay. Drakir will cast Darkness on his left pauldron.
00:07:47
Speaker
OK, so that it engulfs his head. So he should essentially just lose, lose his ability to see, lose vision. OK, so this giant begins to scream. Screaming tickly and batting about. I can't. I can't see. I can't see how this blinded me. No one. And something's going on. Ideally, this is going to work OK, because he's blind.
00:08:17
Speaker
But it's only a 15-foot sphere, so you guys should still be able to see his body because of how tall he is. Can Barak attack the giant? Yeah, you can attack the giant. I mean, okay. Did we just run away? You could also do that. I was thinking that. Can we not head down the hall in the direction we want to go while he's stumbling about? That's also an option.
00:08:40
Speaker
What are we doing then? I vote run. I vote, I'm gonna grab Barrick as he's pulling his sword out of his, oh he didn't pull his sword out of his anything. I pull my sword out of, out of nothing. Yeah, I know. From nothing. Well he's screaming, he's not gonna hear a little guy way down on the floor go, guys let's break for it. You all begin to hear the thumping of more giant footfalls getting closer. So, run and I begin to. Okay.
00:09:10
Speaker
As we get some distance away, Drakir turns around and lets the others get a little more distance, and then I will use my Dancing Lights cantrip to form a shimmering humanoid form at the feet of this giant and cause it to run through that room that we were looking at.
00:09:40
Speaker
And this will also dismiss the darkness on the giant. Okay. So as you all are running away, you hear the giant going, I come back and you hear the door swing open as he runs into it. And then I run. Okay. Um, everyone give me perception checks as you're running towards this hallway. That's any threat took in 20, uh, trick here, fittingly is distracted. It gets a 13.
00:10:09
Speaker
Eric has a 22. OK. Those of you that got above a 20, including a 20. Yes. OK. As you approach the math this hallway, you can hear a single giant walking down the hallway towards you from this hallway.
Sinus Threat and the Missing Gem
00:10:29
Speaker
Um, and you can actually see his hair and beard glowing, um, from around a corner as he rounds it and he gets to approach the hall. Is that all fire giants or was that, is that unusual? Um, this is a special one. Okay. It was Sinus Rhett's hair and beard glowing. Yes. Okay.
00:10:50
Speaker
seen something coming around the corner and assuming that our modus operandi is still avoid things, Barak will just melt into the first shadow that he runs by under a table or something. Okay. Is there? Yeah. I mean, what is there for me to try to hide behind? There are still some like, like all the torches and everything are kind of set into the wall. So you could duck in there underneath a torch or something like that. Gonna hide. Yeah. Making myself small again. And while I'm running to hide in a shadow. Okay.
00:11:19
Speaker
So stealth checks all around. With a plus 10 still, right? Yes. Yeah. 20-30. Do you want one from Barracks and so I literally am invisible? If Barracks invisible, then no. That's fine. Okay. For Drakir and we still have the plus 10, right?
00:11:45
Speaker
Yes. Okay. Then for Drakir, that's 25. 25. Okay. So you all managed to slink into the alcoves and the shadows of this hallway as Senu's threat walks past you and loudly exclaims, what's happening here? And the rest of the giants that are still in this hall kind of look at him and shrug and shake their heads like, we don't know. We heard shouting.
00:12:13
Speaker
and he angrily slams his Greatsword on the ground and flames shoot out of it and kind of scorched the stone underneath where it hit. Cool. While he's close I put Hunter's Mark on him. Okay, psycho. Everyone give me perception checks real quick in this moment.
00:12:37
Speaker
would say, or investigation, but nobody has great investigation here. Barrick has very good investigation. Barrick can do investigation. I've got plus six to investigation. Oh, well, nevermind. You could do investigation instead of perception. I have plus seven perception. Well, okay. I get 23 or 24. 16. 17 for Barrick with investigation, 21 perception for trickier.
00:13:01
Speaker
Okay. Um, Dex, yo, as he slams the sword on the ground, you notice something about the hilt of his sword. There's an inlay in the hilt. Similar to what houses the gem of your ribbon weave, but there's the gym has been taken out of his sword.
00:13:27
Speaker
but it's extremely similar in design and construction and everything. You think that this sword has a gem or at least had one that is a giant artifact that contains something similar to your urban weave? What you've been looking for. Right. But the gem is no longer in it? Yes, that's correct.
00:13:50
Speaker
I said, Hey, what happened to your sword? All right. I'm sorry. That was a joke, right? Or. Yeah, that's a joke. I didn't yell at the fire haired giant. With the giant fiery sword. OK, yet.
00:14:11
Speaker
So what do y'all do? He exasperatedly turns on a heel and begins walking back down the hallway the way that he came. I wait for him to pass. Yeah.
00:14:24
Speaker
Um, so he turns right down the hallway at the end. You all can see based on just where you're at. Um, the hallway bends to the right. Like, well, it doesn't meant 90 degree turn to the right. Um, but where that turn is, there's also a set of double doors on the left hand side of the hall. Dumble doors. No.
00:14:49
Speaker
OK, so it's so it's a it's a bend to the right, double doors to the left. OK. Do the Giants clear out? Yeah, after a bit, not really figuring out what's going on. They they're still investigating, they're still on alert trying to figure out who was screaming, but they they're no longer in the hall. All right, let's
00:15:20
Speaker
Let's follow the let's follow the chief. Yeah, I agree. OK, so if you follow him, he rounds a corner and as you all bend around a corner, you see the two other giants that were dragging the body waiting for him with the body still held. But they've been joined by two. The only description that comes to your head is fire dogs. Why do you keep making me fight dogs?
00:15:50
Speaker
But giant size, like if a dog had a giant, that's the size of this dog. So like a big horse. How much of their hair is on fire? All of it. They are fire dogs. They're engulfed in flame. Yeah. Neat. Kendrick here making nature checks. See if he knows what these are. If he's encountered anything like this in Kendrick.
00:16:15
Speaker
It would need to be an arcana check to know what these things are. Okay. Well, I'll roll it just, you know. I have a 16. 16? You... They're fire dogs. Okay. Are they elementals? If they're elementals, I have advantage on that roll. You do have advantage on that roll. But it's not higher than a 16. Okay. Booyah, your knowledge of the planes, you could probably make a roll to see. Using... Arcana.
00:16:48
Speaker
12. OK. You're a goblin that studies the planes and you have a one arcana? Buddy. OK, so yeah, fire dogs is the best that you can do. So.
00:17:04
Speaker
Not the best intelligence.
Strategizing Against Fire Dogs
00:17:06
Speaker
OK, so they begin walking away from you again after a few steps. Once Senator rejoins them, they hang a left. You can see the two dragging the body step ahead and open some double doors that Senator walks through and then they go and grab the body and walk through them. The hounds are still in tow. We stay, you know, stay well back, but continue following. OK.
00:17:35
Speaker
Yeah, like I'm perfectly happy to stay at the very far limits of what we think is... Everyone go ahead and give me stealth checks since we've been going for a bit and there's some new elements added to what could detect you. Twenty-two. Twenty-seven. Wait, we're still plus 10, right? For a little while longer? Yeah. Twenty-seven. Twenty-five, Drakir. What would that be? Twenty... Twenty-two, Barak.
00:18:05
Speaker
Okay, as you all take some steps to follow once they pass through the double doors, you see the hounds stop and their noses perk up in the air and they begin sniffing and looking down the hallway towards you. Crap. One of them lets out a low growl. You hear Senu Sret say, hmm, there was a commotion in the Great Hall. Go check it out.
00:18:35
Speaker
and the two hounds kind of turn and begin walking down the hallway. Are there any passages off this hallway between us and them? There is a door to your left and then about 25 feet further down there's a door to your right. 25 feet toward the dogs? Yes. Okay. You need to check the range on something real quick. Sorry. Okay. Are we going to make a dog friend?
00:19:04
Speaker
No, no, I can't do that. They're elementals. They would be beasts for me to do that. OK. Sorry. That would be awesome. Yeah. Cool. I'm going to try the same thing since I assume the dogs are not smarter than the Giants. I create a little dancing light man and he runs down the hallway away from the hounds. OK.
00:19:26
Speaker
Here's the thing trying to figure out because they smelled you and this thing does not smell like I'm guessing. No, but it does have it has shape and image. Yeah. Yeah. But when my dog smells me cooking and I squeak something, it gets distracted and goes to the squeak toy and it doesn't smell like pot roast either. Your dog is less persistent than mine.
00:19:51
Speaker
Yeah, my dog's lazy is what I do. Oh, what was I doing? No, lays deck down. One of the dogs sees the dancing lights and growls and can the dancing lights open doors? It could probably run through the door. It's incorporeal. It can't. No, it can't open the door. OK, it's it's an illusion. So it like runs to the door and kind of slams into and begins pawing at it and growling.
00:20:21
Speaker
but then still smells something once the interest of the light figure dissipates. Well, I feel like I would have, while that, at least that one dog was distracted and everything, I would have pointed towards the door right next to us or nearest us and been like, let's go. And hoped that people would follow me.
00:20:42
Speaker
I mean, is opening a giant sized door and closing it again going to be a stealthy operation for us? What what is is there nowhere? There's nowhere to hide in the hallway. I mean, the same alcoves and things like that you can hide in, but those are visual. Yeah, we are being sent hounded, though. We need a barrier between us and the thing that smells us, don't we? I mean, if we go into a broom closet and the dogs are pawing at the edge of the door, then we're still boned.
00:21:12
Speaker
But I guess I don't know we will let him in one at a time Are we gonna fight these dogs is that what's coming down to the well? I I don't think we can afford to get into a fight in the middle of the hallway We'll just call them. We don't have time to have this conversation. What are we doing somebody act?
00:21:31
Speaker
I've already pointed... I've already... I've already... I've already pointed to the door saying, let's get in there. So... That's also true. Yeezus.
00:21:46
Speaker
I guess I grow big again and I open that door. Okay. Um, the door begins to creak open. Um, the hounds perk up, but there's enough to where you all can make it through the door. Yeah. You see a hallway beyond the door. Yeah. I go in and I shut the door behind me. Bye guys. I say, I say you look safe. All right. Okay. There wasn't, there wasn't a lot of option there. Like, no, I mean, we're, we're, it's just,
00:22:16
Speaker
Now we're just kind of going to stand behind this door and then open it again and find the Hirehounds outside. Well, there's a whole hallway now. Yeah, but not where we want to go. I get that. Well, here's the thing. We've already seen that there are connections with other places, parts of the building, because we went the opposite direction of the Green Hand people and then later on saw the doorway they entered from.
00:22:39
Speaker
I get that, but having no concept of the layout of this place, I don't think it's wise for us to blindly wander down hallways hoping that they'll lead us back around to where we were trying to go in the first place. I agree with that. And yeah, here we are.
00:22:54
Speaker
Um, as you close the door behind you, you hear quite a bit of bustle coming from a doorway, um, a little bit ahead of you and to your left, um, some clanging and like metal on metal, things like that. And you hear a single giant voice shouting, just, there's a lot of chaos. So you can't make out exactly what he's saying. That's, that's what you hear. Uh, the door that you can hear it from is closed though.
00:23:23
Speaker
Do we hear the dogs pawing at the door? You hear them at the door sniffing, so they're still trying to follow the scent, but it doesn't seem like they've put together that they need to get through that door. They're still following the scent, getting closer.
00:23:45
Speaker
Is it like Jacob Marley's chains? I mean, you don't have a whole lot. You just hear metal on metal sounds. You don't really have context for what it would be. Theradak would know if it was pots and pans. Probably. But then again, probably any metal on metal would be, oh, pots and pans.
00:24:04
Speaker
I'm not against the idea of waiting for a moment to see if the dogs move on. I think we should get further away from that door. Right. To kind of cut break some of that stuff. Okay, so how many doors and how many doors and options do we see in this hallway? Not out goes, doors and always that lead to something. You see those doors that you hear the clanging behind a little bit further down the hall. There's a set of doors to your left. Then the hallway splits in a T shape down a little bit further after that.
00:24:35
Speaker
Can I? Maybe. Produce, which kind of care, produce from his traveling bag some form of dried meat. Um. Sure, I'd say that's OK. I have five days rations in my pack. I'm sure it would be in there, too. Yeah.
00:25:02
Speaker
So what I'd like to do. So these are giant doors. Therefore, presumably the crack at the bottom of the door is also of giant proportion. Yeah. I want to wrap this around a. I know a little a tent stake or something, a little wooden tent stake. OK. And flick it under the crack so that it slides across the hallway. OK.
00:25:34
Speaker
Um, yeah, you hear cling, cling, cling, and then you hear the two dogs growl and you begin to hear a tussle and snapping and, um, the consumption of, of beef jerky. So they probably ate the steak too. Let's be, they're fire dogs. So at the very least they can, they consumed it one way or the other. Right. Um, yeah. And then I wait and listen.
Artifact Sword Clue Discovery
00:26:03
Speaker
Um, yeah, you, you can hear, um, go and give me perception checks because there is some, another noise source that is could potentially interfere with your ability to hear in the hall. I got a 23 16.
00:26:24
Speaker
Tell me what I hear. You can hear some footpads of footpads fading away from you. Can I sense the direction? The way that you were trying to go. Well, crap. Maybe they're going back to their masters. Yeah, that's what I assume they're doing.
00:26:49
Speaker
The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that that metal clanging is sparring. The dogs seem to have moved on. I think we should attempt to follow. Yeah, all right, let's go. And I'm still tall, so... Okay, you open the door, let's go. It's been opened. And I stick my head out just to check a boot.
00:27:10
Speaker
OK, yeah, the hallway has cleared out. You you see the doors down that center start went through are open. So, yeah, that's creep down there. OK, stealth checks. Twenty four. Twenty nine. Thirty four for here.
00:27:41
Speaker
21 for Barrick. OK, yeah, you all are able to round the corner and you see the hounds walking down the hallway. It's a fairly long hallway, probably about as long as that assembly hall. And they eventually reach a tee at the end of it and turn right. Now, does does your hunter's mark let you know if that's the direction?
00:28:08
Speaker
Have advantage to try and track him so I can I can use when we get down there I can I can make an attempt to see if I can Yeah, make sure that he didn't go that way. I say we keep going we go down to the T, but we don't yeah I agree. We don't commit to it. Hey fellas. Let's uh Let's just keep going. Let's not let's not commit right or left right now. Let's get down there and see what's what agreed Okay
00:28:34
Speaker
Okay, so you all make your way down the hallway. Once you get closer to the end, you see a set of double doors on your left that are notably sized for your stature. But other than that, nothing notable about the doors. Well, if that's what goes left, then he has to have gone right. Yeah. Well, no, no, no, sorry. Before you reach the T shape. Oh, I see. Yeah. Just as part of the hall.
00:29:06
Speaker
What else is notable is once you reach the end of the hall, you see a statue in an alcove right where the tea is, if you were to just walk straight down the tea of what appears to be a giant king sitting on a throne. There are two torches lit on either side of him.
00:29:32
Speaker
And he is holding the, what appears to be the same great sword that Cinesret was wielding, but the statue no longer has a head. Okay. Uh, this is a full statue. Yes. This isn't like a ball relief like the other one. Okay. Um, I think don't touch its hands. All right. Uh, Jerkir would like to make a attempt to track and see which way Cinesret went. Okay. So a survival check.
00:30:04
Speaker
20 20 You can tell that he went right down. Okay, and Eric would like to investigate this very interesting historical marker Dex would like to do you guys not at all interested in what so be beyond this up a size door Maybe Prince friend in there. I Mean, it's I would it's either with the Giants have taken someone in there, right? It's either servants quarters throw him in there or something. Just I
00:30:42
Speaker
You notice that there are the the notable thing that jumps out at you initially is there are Along the up the arms of the throne that he's sitting on there are 13 gemstones There appears to or sorry. There are 12 gemstones sitting in the throne. They look to be valuable. They're not red with silvery light But yeah
00:31:01
Speaker
I want to see what's going on back there.
00:31:07
Speaker
Is there an empty space for a 13th? The so the way the formation of the gemstones and how they would be in relation to the rest of the statue, it seems like there is a missing one in the hilt of the king's sword that would have been kind of in the middle of the two rows as he has it like pointed down in front of him. OK. Berwick says quietly,
00:31:34
Speaker
The number of gemstones corresponds to the moons. Through tears because stones make him think of their deck. Dex says, I'm sorry, what significance? I don't know, but it does. There's even a missing one.
00:31:56
Speaker
And now that that's said to him, does Dex notice the spot in the hilt that could also... I say, well, isn't that curious? The same place that... Did you guys notice that all the center set sword was also missing a stone in that same spot?
00:32:14
Speaker
I didn't notice that. Real quick, he had a spot in the hill to his sword that looked just like where my stone sits in my ribbon weave, except obviously larger. Interesting.
00:32:29
Speaker
Yeah, I want to stick my head in the people-sized doors. Just poke my head in stealthily and see what's inside there. Barak has, by the way, a 26 arcana to see if I can interpret anything on the statue. That's what I'm doing while he's poking his head into things.
00:32:48
Speaker
So, Dex, you slide the door open and poke your head in and you find what appears to have at some time been slaves quarters. Yeah. I mean, that's that's really all that needs to be said about it. You just look in here and you see barred doors, bunks and things like that and disrepair. Yeah. Looks to have been unused recently. All right. Take a rest.
00:33:15
Speaker
That's fair. They couldn't get in there to you. So. So, yeah. Are you all following sinister? Oh, right. Arcana. Arcana. You sent some residual magic in on the the sword that is there, but that's about it. You can't even really tell what kind of magic. It's very faint. Yeah.
00:33:46
Speaker
Then I think we should follow us in a strip That works for me. Okay? How are we on time for Booyah's spell? Probably about 10 minutes left. Okay Everyone give me quick perception checks as you all begin to follow us in a stretch 16 23 26 for Dequeer with a natural 20.
Supernatural Observation by Fire Giant
00:34:14
Speaker
As you all turn, Drakir, you out of the corner of your eye see where the missing head of the statue resides. You see a ghostly visage of a fire giant stare at you and then disappear after a moment once it realizes you see it. Something was there. Well, yeah, obviously there used to be a face. There was a face just now. What?
00:34:40
Speaker
What are you talking about? There was a face just now where the head should be. Like a... Something is using it to watch us. Okay, now we're on the same page. I don't like that. It could be a ghost, but I think something is using it to watch us. Did it look like the big hour following? It was a fire giant.
00:35:05
Speaker
And that's about as far as you go with the characteristics of things. This was as far as I could see it. It disappeared when it saw me look. All right. One more round of perception real quick. Heck yeah. Except for Drakir. Drakir does not need to make it. 24.
00:35:23
Speaker
23 16 Okay Booyah and Dex you and Rick here Drake here you hear it very clearly you two hear it almost as if it's a whisper on the wind Voice say you look like the usurper. Are you his ally? Oh Oh
00:35:49
Speaker
Does Drake here say that so that I can say was it was that was I mean? Yes, I think Drake here says that. All right. Well, I don't know what that means. You know, they're talking about I think the giant we just saw a giant to be headed right by arrival for power. This is a statue of the other giant is the slain one. Perhaps that hagbenga. Yes. And
00:36:20
Speaker
We are not allies of Sinus threat. Alright, so yeah. Declan somewhere else with this. Good. Are you allies of the walking corpse? We have not seen a walking corpse. We're literally standing next to a walking corpse. By saying... Deberic!
00:36:47
Speaker
Do you think barracks a corpse to someone to something less enlightened? It could be worded that way Anyway, that's still what trickier says. Yeah, let's go with your thing And then whatever kind of presence you were feeling during this speaking dissipates Now I think it is a ghost
00:37:16
Speaker
think you might be right. Hey, at least no one's watching us. Oh, oh, Eric hearing that uses his new ability. Okay. I have divine sense. Okay. So let me sense, uh, undead, which is the relevant thing and other stuff, but undead is in 60 feet of me.
00:37:40
Speaker
OK, yeah, you you sent a ghost within 60 feet of you. It is a ghost. There's there's it's still there. Spooky. Booyano like ghost. I mean, he didn't he didn't seem hostile. Seems not to like Sinus threat, so it might be an ally. Yeah, I mean, that's that makes part of us.
00:38:11
Speaker
I Text it listen. We can't do anything about it. Can we got to keep moving right? Maybe he help us great He might but I don't have any way of communicating with him so right I mean there's literally one way to find out if he's gonna help us not get into a situation where we require his help I think Ouija board is on your bags list. Oh, yeah I'll take a shot at oh I have an idea
00:38:38
Speaker
Beric summons the sword and closes his eyes and concentrates on it and says, can you feel him? Very faintly. Can you speak with him? Can she speak with him? She may be able to, but I can't.
00:39:10
Speaker
I don't know how to draw her here. Neither do I. Well, there's one way, but. Not. Not that I have available right now. All right.
Confrontation with Sinus Threat
00:39:41
Speaker
OK, we go. Can we please go now? We don't like ghosts. So you're saying continue to follow or leave away from ghost? Yeah, I'm sure. Rick here looks at it, looks over to Dex and says. What is he doing? Oh. Wait, what? What is Beric doing?
00:40:06
Speaker
Oh, right. Um, okay. So, you know that, you know, that sword that you wanted. I know the sword. No, no. I'm just going to make sure you remember the sword, Rick here. Yeah. Uh, he likes to, he, it talks to him.
00:40:23
Speaker
And he talks back in, and I thought he was crazy, but now, you know, I'm pretty much giving leeway to any weird thing, so... Yeah, he and the sword talk, sometimes he tells us what it says, sometimes he just gets really angry for a while afterwards. He said it sounds better lately, though. And who is she?
00:40:47
Speaker
Um, you know, that one I'm not super super, uh, up on either, actually. All right. That one is a new one. Uh, but, but he's not, he was doing this before he died. Yes. No, this isn't, this isn't new. He chats with his sword and it's sword chats back. And we don't know what it says. Sometimes he tells us, but we have to take his word for it. But you know, I've never had a problem doing that.
00:41:15
Speaker
Trickier turns and begins to follow the path again. Okay, so this hallway ends after about 30 feet and to the right of the dead end is a set of double doors that are most of the way closed but cracked open. I want to just try to do a quick survival check to see if this is the way they went.
00:41:38
Speaker
I assume there's probably like boiling bloodstains or something. It just occurs to me they've been dragging a corpse this entire distance. Uh, 16. Yes. They went through there. Um, Drakir, well, is the door cracked sufficiently that Drakir could put his head through?
00:42:06
Speaker
You could probably try to look through it's not big enough to where you could stick your head all the way through Can we get down on hands and knees and look under the big crack that we've established is at the bottom of the door. Sure Okay, you're here. We'll try to kind of just peek half his face I have to realize doing that put my hand over the mic He kept his face around the door edge while Jax looks under the bottom. Yep gets down on my belly Okay, are you looking or letting them scout? Oh
00:42:35
Speaker
Yeah, but yeah, I'll get down there too. He's little, he can see probably better maybe. You see darkness. Even with dark vision? Mm hmm. Which I do not possess. So how about superior dark vision? Drakir, you see. A UC center threat and the two hellhounds facing the door.
00:43:04
Speaker
Dua. Are they in a posture of ambush? They're in a posture of anticipation. Okay. Dracure leans back around and kind of makes the back up, back up, back up gesture. Okay. Dex can't see him Dua because he's level with him and below him. Dracure reaches down and grabs Dex by the collar and pulls him back from the door. All right. Now that I understand.
00:43:34
Speaker
Okay, so Booyah gets up also. Yeah, I appreciate it. And Dex grabs Booyah. Something's happening. And I mean, I immediately... You know, trick your retreats. Head back 20 feet. I don't know. Yeah, about 20 feet from the door. What'd you see? They are just on the other side of the door. That is a darkness spell. It's just the other side of the door. I do not know. Could I tell how far the darkness extended when I looked?
00:44:03
Speaker
I don't know if that's something I could determine. No. Okay. I'm not sure if it expands all the way into the room. Well, here's the thing. It would have passed. How big was the room? The room was probably about 50 feet long and Sinus Rhett and the Hounds were at the far end. Okay. Drakir knows how magical darkness usually works. So I'm going to put this in, try not to put this in exactly meta terms, but
00:44:32
Speaker
When I have cast darkness, I do not know what a giant can do. When I draw on the shadows, I cannot extend it very far. You saw when I blinded the giant only a small area. It is possible that the darkness does not extend very far, but I cannot say for sure.
00:44:53
Speaker
All right. Well, but also, I mean, I remember that you cast it on me once. And so it didn't matter. It was wherever I went. Yes, but he may have cast it on. He probably has casted on the door or on something near the door. All right. Question. If he had casted on the door, wouldn't it have gone to the other side of the door, too? Presumably.
00:45:16
Speaker
Perhaps. I honestly don't remember if it spreads. I mean, it's magic. Can it not go through it? I don't think it spreads through objects. Oh, okay. All right. Well, then there's that. Yeah, it wouldn't spread through objects because you can you can put something over the object and it will lock the dark. Like a candle. Yeah. Okay. It could be dispelled. I can try to dispel it. It could also be counteracted by
00:45:46
Speaker
by a daylight spell. Can you close your eyes? Yes, I am capable of closing my eyes. What I mean is I don't know how daylight affects you. Does it affect your skin? I know it hurts. Is it when you see it or when you are in daylight? Yes, it is my eyes. All right. Because that'd be, I mean,
00:46:11
Speaker
can't really I can't really do a lot with daylight right because you can you turn it back off oh yeah immediately okay yeah that's my might do it but he's ready for us he's waiting facing the door we're gonna we're gonna fight dying boy I get ready
00:46:32
Speaker
Gets his hand crossbow out his rapiers in his hand ready in action to shoot the bolt if that door opens I thought you were gonna reach into your bag Okay worked out well last I just I so I look at I look at the three of you I say All right, I can kick this on are we doing this? Well If he's at bay
00:46:57
Speaker
Did you see anyone else in the room just to threaten the two pounds? Yep. It's just him and the hounds that's probably as good as we're going to get. I don't see a better opportunity. So here's what Dex lines out.
00:47:15
Speaker
Now, do we know, can he see perfectly well in the dark? Do we know about fire giants having superior dark vision as well? I don't, I mean I could roll a nature check, could you care to roll a nature check to know that?
00:47:28
Speaker
Or I guess another question is, if you cast the spell, it still affects you as well, right? Yes. Unless you have some kind of vision that lets you see through magical darkness. So it would have to be a giant thing. And it might be because Drakir has rolled only a 10 on nature, so I have no idea. I have a meta question. How's everyone doing on hit points?
00:47:56
Speaker
I'm almost full. I've got 53 out of 54. I'm full. Okay. Trick here and Barak both took a hit. So I may... I can cast some healing from my... Barak can cast some healing from his amulet, but then we won't have it in the fight. Or we could attempt to take a...
00:48:22
Speaker
You have a what? I have one potion that I'd be happy to give one of you that way because yeah, that takes a full action during a fight, right? Yeah, what's what kind of potion do we have? It's a it literally just says one healing potion. That's okay. It's the one that we got from God whoever it forever ago. From Booyah? Is that just standard healing, Eric? Yeah.
00:48:49
Speaker
Okay, Barrick will take that and then Barrick will cast Cure Winds on Dracure because Dracure is at much worse. So, Barrick... Okay, Barrick is pretty good off now. Okay. And I will cast that on Dracure. I'm gonna go ahead and use my Hunter's Mark on the Giant.
00:49:19
Speaker
All right. Dracure is back to full. Okay. Before we go in, Dracure and Barak can both see through darkness. So I want to- Booyah, you can't see him, so you can't place your hunter's mark on him. No, no. I want to lay down and look under the doorframe. Well, Dracure is. Booyah said that he did it as well, but Booyah can't see him. Oh, I'm sorry.
00:49:41
Speaker
We thought we had something to get rid of that darkness. We don't once the door kicks open. Yeah, but we'll be we're gonna be initiative by that point. I'm prepping basically so barracks gonna put his Curse on him can barracks see him Beric. Yeah, I have I have devil sight as a invocation so I can see through magical darkness now, okay That's what I replaced since they got rid of the curse bringer invocation. That's what I replaced it with I
00:50:12
Speaker
So Beric will... We'll place his curse on him and Drakir will place Hunter's Mark and Slayer's Eye on him. Alright, everyone before we kick the door up and go and roll initiative for me. 24. I also got a 24. What the heck, Dex? Beric.
00:50:40
Speaker
Eric has a lofty nine, but Dracure has rolled a natural 20 and also has a 24. OK, so. What's what's your index modifier? Yeah, four, four, five. Your index modifier is a five. Yes.
00:51:10
Speaker
Okay, so Booyah's up first. Just you two give me a natural d20 roll and whoever rolls higher goes first. 11. No way.
00:51:29
Speaker
it again yep hey you know Dex turns to Drakir and says hey buddy you know nothing really kicks off until I dispel that darkness right you want to go and let me go in front of you shouldn't I do that first guys right well but he can see in darkness Drakir can if you I can let me make a suggestion if if the giant can't see in the darkness my going through first might gain some
00:51:55
Speaker
some advantage I might be able to attack him from the darkness first. My intention was to let you all do the kick the door down, cast daylight. Before we got into initiative order, I just wanted to get this clerical stuff out of the way first so we didn't break up that moment. In that case, I rolled a five that time. I rolled an eight, so. Okay, fine. Drakir turns to Booyah and says, Godland, you are proficient in dealing with extra planar things.
00:52:26
Speaker
I am not mistaken. You're right. The hounds are elementals. They do not belong on this plane. Okay. So, describe the breach for me. Wait, does the door open in? Because I'm not going to kick the door if it opens out. It opens it. For here, we'll pull his hood up.
00:52:52
Speaker
And then pull it far down so that it shields his eyes from the coming daylight. Well, I was thinking, honestly, I can, I can stick my, if we can barely crack that door, I can kick one door open.
00:53:11
Speaker
and flash it, you stand around the outside of the other door, you might be able to avoid the blast altogether, because that door would block a lot of it. Possibly. Let me try it. I mean, go ahead and pull your hood up. Let's put a hat on a hat. Let's throw on a belt with these suspenders and make sure everything's okay. I have to make myself big again, so I can actually forcibly kick this door open.
00:53:35
Speaker
Kick the door open. Cast daylight. The darkness repels. Booyah goes first. Yeah, Booyah doesn't really have anything to deal with planar creatures. He just has knowledge of planes. Well, your crossbow has lots of stuff to deal with planar creatures. I'm shooting at the giant. You're shooting at the giant? Okay. Vanish the hounds.
00:54:02
Speaker
It's your call, Randy. You see the giant? Okay. Yeah, I can't banish both hounds. One hound is better than two. Yeah, but I might be able to banish him. He's from here. Doesn't matter, I don't think. With my bow, does it matter? Banishing him doesn't necessarily get us anything because we might want his body to be here. Good point. He's got stuff and maybe knowledge in his head that we want.
00:54:30
Speaker
If he's from this plane, he gets a save after one minute, I think, to return, whereas the hellhounds wouldn't get that. Okay, that's good to know. All right. Going for a hound. Okay, go ahead and give me an attack roll. So the door flies open, and Booyah has planar justice aimed at one of the hounds, and he's trying to hit it in the head.
00:55:00
Speaker
Okay. That's 18. 18? During, during Booyah's move, Dex says. Uh, just shout. The Drakir is gone. Come around. That's a hit. Okay. Don't mean to do the, go ahead and do the damage or make it do its charisma save. Go ahead and do the damage first. Okay.
00:55:33
Speaker
Going to be... eight damage. Eight damage? Yes. Then a charisma save. What's the DC? You told me it was I think ten for all of them. Oh, right, right, right.
00:55:56
Speaker
Well, because it's a dog, and dogs have a dog-like charisma score, he fails at his check, and so you just, the bolt buries itself into the height of the cell hound, and it kind of snarls and growls at you before you hear a popping sound as it disappears from existence.
00:56:22
Speaker
Okay, good. How do you like that, Drakir? You say, go away, he go away. Drakir, it is your turn. Drakir comes, so wait, has Dex had the opportunity to turn off his daylight? That's what I, when I said it's gone. Yeah, he just basically popped it. It was like a flashbulb.
00:56:43
Speaker
Drake comes around and says, very good. There is still another. And rushes towards the giant. How far is the giant from the door? About 50 feet. OK, so I move 30 feet towards him and then I will throw shadow blades at him. So I'm going to do the attacks and then I'll do the damage together.
00:57:13
Speaker
One attack is definitely missing. The other one is a twenty four. I'm sorry, twenty three. That's a miss. Well, twenty three. Yeah. That's a that's a miss on the giant. Mm hmm. Well, this is so bad. We're out of our league. OK, I had to roll a 16 to get that.
00:57:45
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. I mean, Drakir throws his... Drakir throws his shadow blades and they just dissipate on the giant's armor. Yeah. And he just levels his sword at you. You know not. With which you meddle.
00:58:10
Speaker
end of episode. So yeah. This is so very bad. We're going to leave you all in a cliffhanger there. So yeah. Thank you all so much for listening. Please go check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at the Geek Pantheon. Thank you, Kevin McLeod, for the use of all of your music. You can find it over in Competech.com. And yeah, once again, I am your dungeon master, Eric. I'm Philip going to roll up another character.
00:58:40
Speaker
I'm Randy. I used to be Dex. We'll see you next time.
