00:01:28
Speaker
Welcome everybody to the last Speedway Stories of 2025. I appreciate you guys for this year tuning in, being supportive the channel and the whole network and everything else.
00:01:40
Speaker
What better way? i Back in October, I celebrated the year um coming up. Glick took a chance on me and I took a chance on myself to doing this show and everything else along with Cold-Blooded Conversations. And here a year later, I'm still going at it and enjoying it.
00:01:58
Speaker
I'm bringing up a good buddy of mine, actually my first, the OG, what a better way to end the year, and my one-year celebration with the very first guest. um I got Justin Henning on here with me tonight, and of course with co-host Johnny.
00:02:12
Speaker
Let's get these guys up here and get show rocking and rolling.
Justin Henning on Racing and Personal Milestones
00:02:25
Speaker
Welcome Dustin. How's it going buddy? Thanks for coming back man to close out the year and stuff. um Like I was telling you backstage dude what better way to spend my first year to have the OG guest to come back on and good racing buddy of mine and everything else sucks. I don't get to see as much because of the local track issues I'm having where I'm at but I'm going to be too. So um Yeah, man. um Tonight, one like I said backstage, we're going talk a little bit of the motorsports, how your season turned out. And after that, get some opinions on some of the other, if you've been following some of the other drag racing stuff going on, see what's going on.
00:03:08
Speaker
And then we're just going to kick it. And we're going have a good time to close out Speedway Stories for 2025, guys. So the floor is yours, Dustin. floor is mine.
00:03:19
Speaker
Well, as you can see, I still have long hair. I see that, man. I remember the last time you were up, that was the deal you were going to do and do your donation for it, buddy. so Yeah, so I did win a race. I won a race on, um it was just before Father's Day over at Cooley Dragway.
00:03:41
Speaker
I won a D-Team event 7-0. and But then like two weeks later, my motor decided to go on vacation. So at that time when I won, i was all gung-ho going to donate the hair, you know, and it was too short.
00:04:00
Speaker
So I said, okay, you know, and then time just went on and it's still too short. yeah Yeah. They say 14 inches.
00:04:14
Speaker
Is the length that you got to have before you can donate? To the to the place that to the place that i want to donate it to. ah yeah they They want 14 inches. I don't have 14 inches.
00:04:28
Speaker
Hey, still, man. i mean You set a go out. and I think it's first like I told you the last time when you said told me about it. Johnny will donate you some hair for you, man. He's got it out there. I don't blame it,
00:04:39
Speaker
Yeah, dude. i mean That's misfortunate that's happened.
Challenges and Opportunities in Motorsports
00:04:43
Speaker
um So with everything going on since race season after that big win and shit, especially for D team, dude, that's a hell of an accomplishment because they usually bring out the hitters.
00:04:55
Speaker
Well, it was it was a smaller event. Really? um I think they had some weather. it was a two-day race, but they had some weather coming in, and i don't a lot of people didn't show up.
00:05:08
Speaker
But it was it was still a fun time. Nice. like Thanks, thanks. Yeah, but so with that happening, and question for you. I'm going to put you on the spot.
00:05:21
Speaker
Why is the OG card up for sale? Did it get you something bigger and better your eyeball? i I have my eyes on something. If it works out, it works out. If it doesn't, I i still got the OG Helen.
00:05:37
Speaker
Hell yeah, man. Awesome. yeah And we and we have we have plans for that with ah with the new engine. We have plans for that. And yeah.
00:05:49
Speaker
Hell yeah, dude. Yeah, when I first seen you make that damn post, I had a tear coming. My eyes started watering. like, seriously? And then then you were saying, then I was reading on and stuff, and I seen you were, you know, you had something lined up that was a good possibility to another, you know, help you.
00:06:06
Speaker
progressing your race program. I'm like, I can deal with that. But still, the OG was oh geez for a sale. I'm like, damn, man. Yeah, i I wish I could just afford to go get another race car and keep the OG.
00:06:21
Speaker
but I understand. Nope, I get it, buddy. Trust me. We all we all understand. We're three of the same. We got to do with what we got. yeahp source I keep seeing these drag and drive events and i I want to get involved.
00:06:36
Speaker
I'll tell you what. see what Corey's doing. That's what I was getting ready to say. Corey's saying. Yeah. That is fucking awesome. That's coming right through my neighborhood.
00:06:48
Speaker
Yeah. So, you know, i want ah I want to be a part of that. I'll tell you what, man. That stuff is it's amazing because I've done the the Hot Rod Tour when it used to come down the trails and stuff.
00:07:02
Speaker
A while back, I got to meet Tina Pierce, of course, meet Lutz and Both senior and junior fucking awesome people. Tina Pierce was the best though. um The highlight of that Dragon Drive though was meeting the ask the people from Australia and the New Zealanders.
00:07:20
Speaker
Okay. do Oh, those guys had their version of what we call, you know, like our Nissan Sentra, the small compact Nissans we have? Yeah.
00:07:31
Speaker
They have their version But they had a 532 with four kits of nitrous stuffed in this thing. Back hat. It was the Australian version of the Nissan Sentra.
00:07:43
Speaker
This thing was a monster big tire car. But yeah, the Dragon Drives, dude, are... Man, they're... out of the And they're people-friendly, really. I mean, it's it's nice. They've got everything for everybody. Oh, yeah. I would...
00:08:03
Speaker
I'm honestly, I thought about it, getting something to throw together besides having my rough, building a rough truck for the two older two ah race, grab a, find an old station wagon or something, throw together with a little bit of horsepower in it and start doing these things too. And take the family along, man, and have a good time.
Encouraging Young Racers
00:08:21
Speaker
Right. Just have a good time being around all the different types of cars and all the builds. Yeah. Cause it's, it's amazing. I mean, it it is, um,
00:08:34
Speaker
Another thing, now we're going to get on the motorsports side on that. um Do you think with the Dragon Drive that there is too many so far, or is it just start, in your opinion, do you think it's just now getting to where it's expanding out?
00:08:59
Speaker
Who knows what the ceilings what the ceiling is on that, you know every It seems like there's all different types of them in different parts of the country.
00:09:10
Speaker
So just keep going to to keep people involved into the sport, you know into motorsports, because who knows what this world is going to do. and you know motorsports may not be a thing one day, and we don't want that to happen.
00:09:30
Speaker
No, we definitely don't. Well, and it's neat with these Dragon Drives. Go ahead, Johnny. Sorry, you had something to say about All I was going to say is, dude, so far, I like your outlook on it. There's always room for possibilities, and there's always room for something new.
00:09:44
Speaker
I like that. It's refreshing to hear.
00:09:48
Speaker
But, yeah, the Dragon Drives, I like the schedules because they're not piled on like your normal racing events. They're spread out throughout the months and stuff instead of, oh, we're going to have a big money race this weekend and another one in this weekend within 100 miles of each other.
00:10:05
Speaker
So it's neat because, it like you said, it opens up the possibility for more people and the younger generation to get involved that, you know, got their license and want to be part of a hot rod scene. So, I mean, it helps out.
00:10:19
Speaker
Yeah. And the OG car It's just a bracket car with a five gallon fuel cell and on methadone. And that's not going to go far.
00:10:30
Speaker
No, no. But I mean, it I mean, that's the thing. with It's still, I mean, if you, you look at the big picture, if you, like you were saying, if you wanted to go that route with the OG car, it's a possibility. It's not like most of these other race cars that, you know, you got to change so much stuff around.
00:10:49
Speaker
You could still able to still be able to deal with that car. I I mean, it's it's tagged and titled. it's It's got turn signals and brake lights and all that shit. so There you go. Just put a bigger fuel cell in it and switch it over to like E85 or something or regular fuel.
00:11:06
Speaker
And it'll have you some fun if you have to, man. I mean, once you get it back together, i mean, it's cool. You technically got a multi-purpose car in my opinion, man. You could do right know your index racing or if you set it up, you can go drag and drive if you wanted to.
00:11:22
Speaker
But when I built it, Dragon Drive, to me, was it wasn't wasn't in my world at that time. So I had i had i had no... ah
00:11:37
Speaker
i didn't i didn't I didn't know anything about the Dragon Drive, so what you know I just looked past that. But now pretty cool.
Dustin's Racing Experiences and Photography
00:11:45
Speaker
Yeah. yeah tod it Well,
00:11:49
Speaker
well they got actually One year they did the power tour that Johnny had actually came through the parts of New York at one time. back Back in the day. The Hot Rod National Power Tour was like the big daddy thing.
00:12:04
Speaker
And then love Rick Bailey, man, doing Sick Week, man. He really opened up the drag and drive stuff, dude. I mean, it just, that that has expanded huge.
00:12:15
Speaker
Opened a lot of people up. um Myself included. So, I mean, there's there's all, like Dustin was saying, there's all kinds of options out there for you now in the racing world.
00:12:27
Speaker
It just depends on what you want to do. Nice. Well, it seems like it was the correct way to go about it, too. Yeah. there's There's things that advertise, let's say, those avenues, but then they don't really come through. This sounds like it advertised that and also came through.
00:12:43
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Okay? Yeah. Cool. the the Then, then, ah So with your off season, so what you get into, man, besides working all that overtime where I seen you were working and stuff, what did you get into since you couldn't race the rest of the summer and stuff, buddy?
00:13:01
Speaker
Well, I went to crew for my buddy Shane. He runs small tire. He's got the Fairmont with the big wing on the back of it. Oh, that's right. You did do that. I forgot about that. Yeah. Like power wheelie, pretty fast car, you know, so I, I helped him out to gain a little more knowledge into the no prep scene, maybe try to make a few connections, you know, get, get to know some people.
00:13:34
Speaker
And, you know, cause like I said, you know, I'm just a bracket racer index racer. So, um you know, trying to find new avenues, talk to new people and, have a good time with my summer.
00:13:48
Speaker
Heck yeah, man. So was real fun. we we went to ah We went to a lot of tracks, Milan backside, ah Quaker backside, 42 backside, and then he ran some.
00:14:01
Speaker
That Milan would have been sick. I've been wanting to go see it go up and support Detroit Man with their backside racing shit, so.
00:14:12
Speaker
I enjoyed it. It was, it was a lot of fun. It was totally different from what I'm used to. And that that's, that's me. I w I want to be different. You know, that's why I wanted to get involved in the dragon drive because you know, I can always bracket race.
00:14:29
Speaker
I can always index race, but I can't always just take your hot rod three, four, 500 miles on a cruise and checking stuff out. That's a lot. It sounds like a lot of fun.
00:14:41
Speaker
Well, and you get to see places that you and you know most people don't ever get to see in person and until you do something like that. So, I mean, it's cool. Right.
00:14:52
Speaker
And cory Corey doing that six Smokies, him and Amber, man, the pictures and videos that they got from doing that with her blazer. I would love to put something together and travel down there if I had to climb the dill and stuff.
00:15:05
Speaker
That looked like a blast. I'd just like to ride along for the scenery, you know, just for the experience. Yeah, that would be cool, too. you Maybe you need to hit Corey up. They're going up for for that sick ward up in Michigan that they're doing, that sick Michigan. That'd be kind of cool to go check out.
00:15:24
Speaker
Yeah, I've got to keep my weekends open for work right now.
00:15:31
Speaker
i understand that, buddy. I definitely understand that. keep them bills paid. Oh, hell yeah. keep Keep the bills paid and the funds to keep the the dreams alive of just our hobbies that we got, man. What little bit we can at a time. Do you get to do any deer hunting this year, bud?
00:15:51
Speaker
I've been out. I've been out a few times. ah Let some girls walk by. you You know? um Not real pressed for it yet.
00:16:05
Speaker
You know, still got January. Yeah. So we'll get one down. Hell yeah, man. There is one thing I have noticed on your on your Facebook page. I think you found another hobby that you don't realize you're actually pretty damn good at with your cell phone and stuff. you These pictures you've been taking when you've been taking your trips to Lake Erie and stuff, dude.
00:16:27
Speaker
Yeah. so You've got some badass pictures that you've done. I've never seen the parts of the lake like you took. I think that's another another thing you need to look into. Yeah. Oh, yeah. it's ah it's It's a little thing of mine. You know, I started out just, you know, checking it out. Then um it's like i'm I'm showing people something that they they don't get to experience.
00:16:51
Speaker
Unless you're on Lake Erie, you don't get to see the sun come up on the water. you know giving them so it given me Giving them your bird's eye view of what it's like, man. Yeah, those sunrises, dude, has been... ah And even a couple of the sunsets you've done, man, but the sunrises have been the freaking best, man.
00:17:12
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, I enjoy going out there, sitting early in the morning, peace and quiet. know, just take it all in and enjoy it.
00:17:26
Speaker
Yeah, they... um I've seen pictures of the day from that snowstorm and stuff where the rails and stuff on parts of Lake Erie are so iced over that came through, man. That is insane.
00:17:39
Speaker
it gets It gets wild up here. Now you can walk out oh roughly maybe roughly an eighth of a mile and all the water's gone.
00:17:51
Speaker
Really? Yeah, maybe not an eighth of a mile, but still no pretty close. be able to Pretty close, yeah. still the being Where there was once you know two, three feet of water, youre you can now stand there and just and there's no water.
00:18:06
Speaker
Wow. Crazy. been up to Lake Erie a few times and stuff. you know Caught in a couple nice thunderstorms that's gone and seeing the big waves up by the lighthouse and shit.
00:18:18
Speaker
But to see some of the pictures that people have been posting and videos of where the water's been out low tide everything else and uh and then this ice up here from all the snow you guys have been getting and shit in the cold weather it's it's a it's beautiful but at the same time it's like you guys are brave for being ah in the cold weather out on this lake taking these pictures am the it's still warm in the truck I get it. But these people are literally like
Dustin's Local Adventures and Culinary Interests
00:18:51
Speaker
walking. you You'll see who they're. Oh, yeah. and You'll see their significant other. They'll be like, yeah, my wife's down this way or my friend's down this way. And they're taking pictures of them and are doing the videos. And you see them like holding themselves up, trying not to get blown away when it's windy up there. And it's like.
00:19:12
Speaker
Yeah, I mean. Hold hold on to your babushka. Literally.
00:19:20
Speaker
And another thing I've noticed too, um I know because we're friends on Facebook, you're quite the little chef, man.
00:19:30
Speaker
Yeah. yeah i I don't have a woman, so I got to keep me myself fed. Right. I better learn how to cook. Yeah. But yeah, dude, I mean, some of the stuff that you've done and everything else.
00:19:44
Speaker
And I also like the little Ma and Pa restaurants, man, that you're supporting and everything else. So. Yeah. at home What's up, Brandy? Dustin, this is another member of the network that just recently joined us. This is Brandy. Brandy, this is my buddy, Dustin.
00:20:00

00:23:27
Speaker
Dip your toe in, bro. Dip it in. i feel i have a feeling about you, Dustin. ah I'll tell you what, Brittany. this is This is mild on here compared to any person. man he He can cut a rock. I keep it mild because I don't know what kind of ears are listening.
00:23:46
Speaker
It doesn't matter. Our channel is actually adult, usually adult only. yeah Okay. But every now and then we do have a couple of the kids pop in. Rick's son usually listens on on here and shit. We got some. But yeah.
00:24:00
Speaker
Other that, man, continue on as you want, buddy. It's your fault, like I said. Hell yeah. You can have the whole raw, unfiltered version in person.
00:24:11
Speaker
ye Yep. That side's actually the fun side, but especially when you're at a racetrack with them. It's a blast. It's a lot. so dust I have a lot of fun. yes Have you ever been on the Tale of the Dragon?
00:24:25
Speaker
No. Do you know what the Tale of the Dragon is?
00:24:31
Speaker
I believe it's it's it's a road, correct? No? yeah It's 316 curves and 11 miles. It's like between Georgia and Tennessee.
00:24:43
Speaker
i have never been. Sounds fun. When are we going? He's an adventurous kind of guy. If he can go tag along with something like that, man, he'll definitely do it. So.
00:24:57
Speaker
Go ahead, buddy. Whatever else you want to tell everybody, man. You know that this show is just as much as yours. Yeah. is it you just but Wally, I love you. Fuck you, dude. Fuck you. Now, Wally, what is your favorite vehicle to drive?
00:25:27
Speaker
favorite or that I would love to drive either it both my favorite vehicle that I've driven is my Mustang the 90 97 Mustang GT that I had that was a five speed five liter um so I blew the motor up and then and the sub well and the subframe was rotted out more than I thought it was um that But my dream car is a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a 2003 SVT Cobra drivetrain, six-speed, and a supercharged 32-valve motor on it. That is my dream car to build.
00:26:08
Speaker
This is why we're friends. That's the only reason. But I'm going to tell you right here and now in front of everybody, if somebody offered me a 68 or 69 Camaro or a Challenger or a Charger, I'm all for the old school muscle cars.
00:26:26
Speaker
ah Even though I'm a Ford guy, I'll take old school muscle all day long. Give me old school muscle over this new shit all day long. It don't matter to me.
00:26:36
Speaker
I agree with that.
00:26:40
Speaker
What's your favorite car? He already said it. <unk>s ah She's a mo she's your copycat. oh Okay. okay Molly, you're getting too comfortable.
Personal Growth and Community Interactions
00:26:53
Speaker
but I love being comfortable. I like the 67 Camaro SS's, man. There you Mustang, like he said.
00:27:06
Speaker
yeah i'm a sixty nine camaro black onm black Hell yeah. No, black on black is everything though. i know yeah especially and Especially in the muscle cars, man. i know That's the way goes.
00:27:24
Speaker
yeah Do you like the matte black? um Yeah. Matte black. i Yeah. yeah Where's the hot?
00:27:38
Speaker
another Another thing besides the racing, like I said, he's a he's got the hobby of taking kick-ass pictures, cooking. What's some of your favorite things? that Since we're talking, we'll throw the cooking out there, man. What's some of your favorite things that you like to cook, dude?
00:27:54
Speaker
Besides deer. Well, yeah I made it hard for you now. I know how you like to cook deer and stuff. but he's like kind Well, i am I am really trying to get my my pizza recipe down.
00:28:09
Speaker
So making my own crust, making my own sauce, making my own cheese. ice I'm trying to just be a little, ah maybe get a healthier version.
00:28:22
Speaker
You go to the store and you see it's got all them ingredients in it. It's like, I don't need all that. So I can, I can make it fresh with my own tomatoes
00:28:37
Speaker
I've worked at four different pizza places. I'll help you out, bro. I got you. Heck yeah. Heck yeah. yeah The pizza's trying to get my my pizza game going.
00:28:50
Speaker
do it That's awesome, dude. That's one of the easiest things to make, too, though. ah do ya here Go over on Facebook and follow him.
00:29:00
Speaker
Dude, some of the pizzas he's done, that crust he's got is fucking amazing. No slop, jalop.
00:29:09
Speaker
Hell yeah. hes Dustin's got many talents besides racing, so we're exposing him tonight on the show. Yeah, it's okay. It's okay. Hell yeah, dude. did Your hair is better than mine. I'm jealous.
00:29:29
Speaker
Hey, actually, the first time I met him, he actually had his hair cut short, Brittany. He's grown it out so... It was a deal he made for this race season. He wants to be able to donate it to a charity that he has for stuff.
00:29:42
Speaker
And we had he had a misfortune with his car and didn't get ah get a chance to. So he's letting it grow out more and come out next year swinging where he can can continue with his quest for what he set out to do. So that's why he's growing his car out and stuff. Dustin, you look good.
00:30:00
Speaker
And awesome for you for doing that. really Thank you. Thank you.
00:30:05
Speaker
Just something, you know, thought I'd, I mean, why just cut it off and throw it in the trash? Someone right might need it. And, you know, trying to do my my fair share.
00:30:22
Speaker
ah just grew this here ticket. Well, in a way, in a way yeah. i i drew it out just ah I grew it out just a little long And then people would ask me, are you going to grow your hair?
00:30:37
Speaker
you going to cut your hair? And then, you know, some people that are, don't have hair, bald, you know, they say, you know, oh, it must be nice to have hair. So I just left it go and just kind of got used to it. And, you know, then people says, oh, I love your hair. And I'm like, well, oh thank you. i mean rid of it soon. Yeah. Do you want it?
00:31:09
Speaker
Let's see Johnny Bong's hair for a second. Yeah, yeah he already did that. You're late. you're fucking fuck I a fucking mop, And then also with the cooking side, even though he hasn't done it yet, but you want somebody to stay consistent with the taco Tuesday postings.
00:31:26
Speaker
Dustin's your dude. He's found some killer in your inner corner, like mom, Paul taco places around him that he's been sharing. I found a place about 45 minutes from my house that on Tuesdays they have a $2 taco.
00:31:43
Speaker
It comes on a corn shell with cilantro and onion and they serve it with you can get up nine there's nine different meat variations and i like nine different meats I can't find a damn taco anywhere else around here so I've read like religiously keep going back and I've kind of you know whispered in their ear you know hey I
00:32:16
Speaker
I race and, you know, I do accept advertising. So maybe one day. you like Yes, ma'am. tre Yeah.
00:32:29
Speaker
That's the best thing. one That's the best thing. feel like cilantro tastes like a stink bug smells like.
00:32:39
Speaker
yeah I don't, I don't, I don't know. Do you know what stink bug smells like? Because some people can't smell it. That i don't I don't know what one of those smell like.
00:32:51
Speaker
Yeah, well cilantro tastes like a stink bug smells.
00:32:56
Speaker
Tacos are bomb though. Oh yeah. Make me a taco. he does He does a lot of his food porn on on his Facebook page. yeah Send me a link or drop it in the comments or whatever. Lazy Jedi.
00:33:16
Speaker
But yeah. Drop your link in there, Dustin. see if you can here Go ahead, buddy. Hell yeah. I want to see some of your tacos. How do I do that?
00:33:30
Speaker
Or just send it to maybe Wally and he can do it. I'll send it to you, Brittany, and everything else through text and stuff. I'll get you the links so we can get it. yeah yeah and The link for the show you tagged me in.
00:33:44
Speaker
Yeah. she would be able She would be able to access it through there, right? The link? Yep. go It's on Facebook. Yeah. Or the share. Share, I'm sorry. I'm on streamer.
00:33:59
Speaker
yeah We'll figure it out later. Yeah, but we'll get it. But yeah, he does ah does that. So what style, back to the pizza since you're making pizza, what style crust do you make for your pizza and everything?
00:34:12
Speaker
I guess they call it New York. Flat. Yep. Flat and burnt. Well done. yeah Well done. Nice. Yeah.
00:34:24
Speaker
Sometimes you can't even fold it. It'll break. Ooh. That's the best kind of pizza right there. It's crispy. It's crispy. Yeah. zip yes um yes say so did you get to do Did you get to do any fishing this summer? and just...
00:34:43
Speaker
no no i didn't i will your bucket that was one of your bucket list things to do i went i mean i went i went and did some catfishing and ah this I always catch them.
00:34:59
Speaker
But no, I didn't get to get didn't get a chance to go perch fishing or walleye fishing. So it's all right. All three of you have a great fun time. Sad part of it is I'd rather go catfishing, especially when you go at night and you only got a couple people by yourself. You don't have worry about the world.
00:35:18
Speaker
All you got is nature, man. Just out there with you man and go fishing. Well, yeah, you actually get to experience it then. Oh, yeah. It's a good time. That's why I go fishing is to escape the world. Like we ultimate release that, that, and like for me and him, him racing and me getting to watch races and everything else, that's another release for us and everything else is cur doing
Racing Community and Future Plans
00:35:43
Speaker
that stuff. So it could of the, uh, the past summer, the past summer was such a, don't want to say a relief, but like, well, you know, once, once ah it was determined, you know,
00:35:57
Speaker
hey, you're not going to race anymore this year. You need to come up with five grand for a motor. And I just said, well, I'm just going to have fun with my summer. And I got to go do things that I wouldn't normally be doing because I'd be at a racetrack or traveling to a racetrack.
00:36:16
Speaker
So it was it was a lot of fun, you know, going to do the no prep stuff. And my brother, he just retired from racing. He raced a circle track on dirt.
00:36:27
Speaker
So I got to go watch him a lot more aon go traveling. You got to live life a little bit.
00:36:38
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah. you know I got to sit sit at the pier and you know and fish on a Saturday night. Nice. where's your but Where's your brother race at? He raced at Fremont Speedway.
00:36:52
Speaker
Okay, okay. Nice. Have we ever been to Bunce Creek? Bud's Creek, Maryland? Yeah. I've heard of it. Never been there. ah you need ah You need to show up.
00:37:05
Speaker
If I get ah get a chance and I head that way, Dustin, when I go to watch the motocross over that's on my bucket list. I'm going give you a call. and you're gonna Hopefully you don't have to work. I'm going come grab you and we'll we'll head over and check out the Supercross race over there.
00:37:18
Speaker
That's one of my bucket list races within the next couple years to travel and go see. I'll come grab you. We'll make a rep we'll make a road trip of it and go go watch some Supercross racing. Hell yeah. hello very i hope yeah
00:37:33
Speaker
But yeah, man, that's cool that you got some supercross racing in Detroit. I believe a few years back went to some event up there at the Ford field.
00:37:47
Speaker
They're coming back. Well, this year they're in April using Cleveland Brown Stadium this year. I'm thinking. Oh, yeah. I'm taking the oldest two up for it this year for the first time to go see it. So it's going to be pretty badass.
00:38:06
Speaker
But yeah, but between Bud's Creek, Indianapolis, and Ford Field is my three top ah top bucket list to go watch Supercross racing at. And then my buddy down here in Zempheus actually works Lucas Oil Motor Speedway.
00:38:25
Speaker
Out in Missouri. He's big for the dirt track scene. around so am He threw the offer out to anybody that wants to come out the summertime if we get a chance all the time. i want to get out there too. Make out a ah trip road trip sometime to hang out with him out there, man.
00:38:43
Speaker
He's been a long time supporter of this channel and of me too for since I started this show. Oh, yeah. But, yeah, man, it's going to be interesting to see how your offseason plays out, um everything else for you.
00:39:01
Speaker
So far, so good. were We're on path. Oh, yeah, man. I guess I can break some i can break some news here. ah i i pick up my cylinder heads tomorrow.
00:39:16
Speaker
um Next is a short block, and then we're ready to go. Hell yeah, dude. I'm excited for it. Just been working, collecting them dollars.
00:39:27
Speaker
well you know i I don't have i i don't have ah a lot of financial backing, so it's it's all out of my pocket.
00:39:37
Speaker
so well you're god play the word you're the You're definitely the one of the true meanings of grassroots racing, man. It don't matter, drag racing, dirt track racing.
00:39:49
Speaker
Your brother, i I've seen where you posted about him. You guys are all all grassroot racers on the dirt track side and the drag racing side. That's why I like pulling for people like that because it relates more to us, our general public. So it makes it nice. it'd be nice to have some of those big big financial sponsor kind of deals to do and everything.
00:40:13
Speaker
But it's also cool to see the little guys succeed, especially you, man. Yeah. Yeah, it's nice to see the little guys shine every now and then. Yeah, especially when you're staying true to yourself and what your purpose, yeah goals, and mind are.
00:40:28
Speaker
right Amen. We're all weird here. There's Zempheus. Like he said, anytime any of us come out there, all we got to do is make the trip out. He's he's shoting he's got us hooked up. That's one of my other dudes, man. He's good guy, man.
00:40:44
Speaker
It's almost 9 o'clock. I need to wake up early to drive to Ohio for this comedy shit. Thank you for having me in here. I didn't expect you to bring me Hey, thanks for popping in. Thanks for hanging out with us, Britt.
00:40:58
Speaker
Be careful coming. We did get hit with some snow and stuff around here. so Yeah, it's going to be fun. Nice meeting you, Dustin.
00:41:10
Speaker
Nice meeting you. We'll see you, Britt. Have a good one. Be safe. Very good to see you. Happy New Year. yeah And of course, Jenny Bonds. Always. All right. Let's make sure I don't end the stream and I actually just leave. like my i accident I know. as I've seen that Saturday. We'll see you, Britt. Have a good New Year's.
00:41:35
Speaker
Happy New Year's. Oh, yeah, man.
00:41:40
Speaker
But yeah, dude. Some more on the Other stuff, I mean, yeah, you're getting to live a little, um especially on the dirt track side. Would that be something you'd want to get back into with doing something like that if you didn't have the car?
00:41:58
Speaker
it ah It takes a lot. it takes the good It takes a crew of people. it takes some funding. Because... you know i've I've been around racing most of my whole life.
00:42:11
Speaker
and it's It's easy to just go to the track and whatever happens, happens. but If you want to be competitive and you want to win, that's that's a whole different mentality.
00:42:23
Speaker
You've got to sacrifice groceries, um a bill, so you can have that to go racing. Yeah.
00:42:36
Speaker
Dirt track, you know, I, I, I can't do that on my own, uh, drag racing. i I, can do it with nobody.
00:42:47
Speaker
I don't need someone to, you know, unless I'm no prepping and I need someone to bring me to the line, know, like bracket racing. I don't have nobody to bring me the line. I don't have nobody to put me in the, you know, to do a burnout. I do it all on my own fuel, air in the tires,
00:43:05
Speaker
You know, I've developed my own routine and it works for me. And it's there's also a trust thing. You know, the guy that I say, hey, I want 19 pounds of air in my tire.
00:43:17
Speaker
You know, is is he putting 19 pounds in or is it ah I said 19 three. That'll be all right. You know, so there's a trust factor, too. I can be honest. I was fortunate a couple of times here at Pacemakers to actually give you a hand during some of your – when you were racing the points series that year you won it down here that Drew had on.
00:43:38
Speaker
I was fortunate to ah get to know you and actually give you a hand a few times. I mean – but, yeah, you definitely – I seen it firsthand. You are – all you guys that I'm buddies with at bracket racing especially – You all have a routine or if you've got somebody like a significant other or somebody that's there with you, like your right hand person, you guys have a routine that's you, you mind read each other and then you communicate or like you said, don't mostly by yourself.
00:44:07
Speaker
But yeah, man, it's one of those deals. You, you get into that and then you throw somebody in there and it's like, oh shit, what did I what did i miss or something like that. I mean, that's that possibility that can happen. Someone that doesn't know how technical you know tire pressure can be, you know um three you know let's call it 0.4 of a pound, you know that's that that's a lot.
00:44:32
Speaker
it's It doesn't seem like a lot. okay But if you if someone's doing your tire pressure whatever, you know. or what or whatever you know Right. Or anything like that, that you're, you know, that you're not on the same page with, like you were saying.
00:44:48
Speaker
Yeah. dirt track raton You've seen people, you see people that they run out of fuel because they forgot to put fuel in the car. How'd you forget to put fuel in the car? How many times did do we see that in one weekend there during the Halloween deal we had at Pacemakers that year? i think there was like five of them that did that.
00:45:07
Speaker
They got in such a damn hurry and they forgot to refuel up. and They didn't even, once they got back to the pits, they're like, yeah, we didn't put fuel in it. It's like, oh, shit. Just simple little things like that. I mean, that's, and that's like you said, your routine, you got your own Mental checklist the ghosts are before you stage that car and stuff up there at the starting line and everything That you know, it's there unless you got somebody like I said that is dead on with you that's been with you from the start other than that it can throw a monkey wrench and that 0.3 of a pound of air can cause either you're tired of spin or
00:45:49
Speaker
and everything else a lot less than what, or more than you what you really wanted to release on when you let go of the button. So,
00:45:59
Speaker
and then with dirt track racing, it's like you said, it, it takes a, it takes a a crew to be competitive. I know I grew up in that community. Um, the Morans and Penley's all got me introduced into dirt track racing, especially Devin Moran.
00:46:17
Speaker
Um, His dad. Big huge fan. Big huge fan of Donnie and all them. That's where I cut my teeth in the dirt track community. And I'll tell you what, that's a well-oiled machine that family's got going on in that in their race program. i mean But to say I had a small part when I was younger, it's pretty fucking cool that a nationally known team from Ohio um is out there winning championships and stuff. and i And I know the family personally, so it makes it Makes me feel pretty good.
00:46:49
Speaker
Learning opportunities, man. Of course. Oh, it was. It was definitely different, especially with those late models, bud. There's not much room to work on those murders. When they tell you to pull a cylinder head on a late model, you got all the safety bars and roll cage in your way, and you got to learn how to get it without damage and shit.
00:47:09
Speaker
For sure. Yeah, those are really, ah those are pretty cool cars. there's ah There's a couple YouTubers that I follow and ah get to really see what they're working on.
00:47:22
Speaker
you know It's pretty cool because I don't personally know a late model driver, so it's cool to you know be honest watch YouTube and you know they go through the whole car with you. It's fun to watch.
Dirt Track Racing Insights
00:47:40
Speaker
Actually, we're talking late models. Yes. what oh What's this, Cynthia? Which one do you want to talk to? Oh, yeah, I forgot. You got the connections for and the late model and outlaw scene, the sprint car scenes and stuff, buddy.
00:48:02
Speaker
But, yeah, they ah yeah i've even I've even thought about getting, if things didn't pan out, getting the family involved in the four-cylinder side of dirt track duration. Oh, yeah.
00:48:15
Speaker
Yes, well, I've heard of triple. Yep. I've heard of that performance racing.
00:48:24
Speaker
i ah I used to race front-wheel drive, but it was a six-cylinder. Nice. Very nice. Well, I guess this year, Hilltop Speedway there in Millersburg,
00:48:40
Speaker
they're yeah opening up They're opening up the compact class, allowing VTech motors and everything this year in the Point Series. So they're trying to bring in more people. The new owners of the track are actually bringing trying to bring in more people for the four-cylinder class. So that's going to be interesting. We'll see how that plays out. so That's cool to hear they're expanding their horizons a little bit.
00:49:08
Speaker
they've they've done amazing things with the revamp and just the year that they've had at that track. I'm playing on trying to make some Friday nights down there to do some video and, and hang out with some of my racing buddies that I know in dirt track race. And it's actually got back into it again because ah of the, the new owners of Hilltop and then Wayne County up in Oroville, dude, they got some big plans, I guess this year. So that's cool. I've only been there once and it rained out.
00:49:37
Speaker
So I, Technically, never watched a race there. If I get a chance to go up that way, man, maybe if you're not racing somewhere else on ah on a Saturday or something, I'll hit you up. If you're not working, maybe we can meet up and hopefully Mother Nature co-operates.
00:49:52
Speaker
I'll introduce you to some of the Sprint car guys that I know that race up there and stuff. You can check out those wing cars, man, ah up close and personal.
00:50:02
Speaker
Mansfield, I'm i'm excited to for Mansfield to open back up. Dude, I am pumped. I am i amm over ecstatic for that. but Mansfield, Pierre?
00:50:14
Speaker
Mansfield, Ohio. Oh, yeah. um Matt Tiff ended up, he's a former NASCAR owner, racer, bought this Speedway, and he's opening the track back up, revamped it, everything else, dude. He's got a whole race schedule for next year.
00:50:31
Speaker
I love what he's doing. He dumped a lot of money into it, and it's looking nice. Yeah. I like the options we're getting, though, for the motorsports side, man. We're getting a little bit of everything, not just dirt track racing from up there.
00:50:46
Speaker
Right, yeah. Got motocross, going to put in, revamp the drift track, going to have some drift Yeah, doing some drifting. I'd love to check that out in person. I've watched that on YouTube.
00:50:58
Speaker
That'd be cool to see in person. That's lot of what my family's got in motocross.
Track Updates and Merchandise
00:51:04
Speaker
A question that I haven't seen asked about Mansfield is, is anything going on with the, what was going to be a drag strip there?
00:51:16
Speaker
That's actually where the new drip drift track's going. that's who Okay, okay. He's actually putting the drift, no, sorry. That's where they built the motocross track. They tore that up and put the motocross track.
00:51:29
Speaker
He's bringing in sanctioning events for motocross racing too. Oh, wow. his um I messaged Robbie DeVore, the guy that it announces the stuff that used to announce up at Fremont and everything else.
00:51:43
Speaker
um He's big down there with them. He's saying by 2028, he's trying to get AMA to bring Monster Energy for an outdoor series, part of the outdoor series there at Mansfield within the next couple of years. That Robbie guy, the the announcer, I sent him one of my shirts.
00:52:03
Speaker
Did you really? much Yeah, see if he'd wear my shirt on one of his ah YouTube shows or something, you know? Oh, I'm sure he's got not only yours and a shit ton of other people, man. Right.
00:52:17
Speaker
You know, just trying to throw my name out there. Hey, ah any any little bit helps, man. Any little bit helps. Yep.
00:52:27
Speaker
and And like you said, like Corey said, and a lot of the local guys I know, And some of the big names even. um If you can't buy merch, the biggest free thing you can do for anybody if you're truly supporting a racer or that person is that share button.
00:52:47
Speaker
especially yeah That share button. That's all there is to it, man. That that right there... to me, in my eyes, is worth a million times more.
00:52:58
Speaker
Yes, it's cool to have the merch or you know shirts and shit, but just to say, hey, I shared this for you. This is my support, even though I can't financially do it. But here, I'm going to get the word out. This dude is a good guy. This program's great.
00:53:13
Speaker
And that's why I do this for a lot of lot of people, and cook especially you, man. Whenever I see new stuff coming up, As you notice, your feeds my feed gets filled with yours, your Corey's, or anybody I know that's local. man I'm always i'm sharing it out there.
00:53:28
Speaker
and I always appreciate you.
00:53:32
Speaker
Let's say like for me first finding and out about your your journey, brother, i but through this, I'm going to keeping up on it as well that's cool. Yeah. yeah yeah Hell yeah. i have a I have my own designated racing page.
00:53:47
Speaker
But due to um me not getting along with Facebook about a year ago, i don't have access to that page.
00:53:58
Speaker
I used to have about three or four Facebook pages. And Facebook said, now we're taking all them. You're a bad kid. I said, okay. What's that?
00:54:12
Speaker
What's the company? the Johnny, if you've got a pen and paper, write this down. What is it? Black Acid Designs, is it, that does your shirts? Black Acid Racing Apparel.
00:54:23
Speaker
Yes. Black Acid Racing Apparel. They actually have where they have his shirts and stuff. Dude, they do a killer job on his merch. Yes, I have a store or a storefront there.
00:54:36
Speaker
i offer T-shirts, short sleeve and long sleeve. Tank tops, men and women's hoodies, shirts. Let's see, hats fitted and trucker.
00:54:52
Speaker
Nice. Decals, and they come in black, red, or gray. um they're They're a good quality shirt.
00:55:04
Speaker
They're not cheap shirt. they're not a cheap shirt But they're a good shirt. And starting, here's some new here's some more new info I'm dropping.
00:55:15
Speaker
Starting in 2026, I will now be offering all my merch in pink for the ladies. Oh, yeah, dude.
Rough Truck Racing and Sponsorships
00:55:26
Speaker
Awesome. nice Yeah, man.
00:55:29
Speaker
Yeah, we're going to open it up. I'm going to get the pink involved. Everybody, you heard it here first. Right here. All new merch and all new stuff coming out for 2026. It's announced right here on Speedway Stories from from Dustin, man.
00:55:45
Speaker
Nice. Yeah, i'm pretty I'm pretty excited, man. Hopefully, the way things are looking, maybe this year get together. i know right now I'm building the oldest rough truck for next year, and I'm going to race a couple more times like I did this year. um and then Yeah, how do you like that?
00:56:06
Speaker
let's let's ah Let's turn the show onto you for a moment. How do you like the rough truck stuff? I love it if i only My thing is um it it it can it lives up to it, especially if you don't have something with a little bit of suspension under it. I was fortunate this year to get back into it.
00:56:28
Speaker
um After 16 years not running, a guy I know personally has a towing service, Couldn't find nobody to drive. And one of my close friends, that's like a brother to me, other brother besides Glick.
00:56:41
Speaker
Hey, you want to be a wheel man and get back into racing rough truck this year? I got you a Jeep. Okay. I was kind of nervous at first. I'm like, I'm driving somebody else's equipment. i I can't do the normal let it hang kind of deal like I did when I did it with my own shit.
00:56:59
Speaker
First thing out of his mouth, he goes, you break it, you break it. Go out and have fun, man. He goes, you were you were sought after. um Now his daughter's taking over the Jeep. She just she was 16. She ran her first year.
00:57:14
Speaker
So she's got the Jeep now for next year. It's going to be hers. They're going put a cage in it. I like it. It's actually not as bad as doing demolition derby.
00:57:25
Speaker
I mean, I was a little sore the next morning and shit, but with derby and the constant turn around, turn your neck. I hurt more from doing a derby than I do rough truck racing. I love it. Um, met a lot of awesome people like I did through drag racing.
00:57:42
Speaker
I got a tight-knit rough truck family, as you can see on Facebook and the Nonsensable Network post. A lot of those guys I've become close with over all these years.
00:57:56
Speaker
i could i I can literally just say for rough trucks in my area, I'm one of the OG fans that because Mount Vernon Fair is actually the ones that put it on on the map for the county fairs to do.
00:58:12
Speaker
So, I mean, not to brag or nothing, but, yeah, i we used to do it actually on our horse pulling track. So when you come off the final jump, you actually had, if you didn't stop in time, you were going down an incline the other side in an open field.
00:58:26
Speaker
so Oh, wow. Yeah. But it's come a long way. The trucks has come a long way. I'd eventually like one time to strap behind a modified that's basically ah set up for kind of like ball haul, but it's so for rough truck.
00:58:42
Speaker
I'd like to get behind with some horsepower one time just to see what it's like to do that. But I'll stick with my stock style Jeep with decent aftermarket shocks and a roll cage in it and everything else, or even a Ranger or something like that.
00:58:57
Speaker
But I love it. Oh, Ranger. Yeah. yeah i actually I had a good old Danger Ranger. um i forgot how much I actually missed it besides being a being a fan from the outside looking in how much it is How much fun it actually is to drive.
00:59:13
Speaker
For sure. Now what do you have for an engine in one of those? i asked that The stock engine? or Yep, stock motor. I got a 4 liter in the Jeep. It was a stock 4 liter, the one I ran. and The one I'm building now is a stock 4 liter. Yeah.
00:59:28
Speaker
um I was going to kind of go crazy if the budget would allowed it. i was going to make it a modified. i was actually going to put an LS five, three down in it. Um, kind of beef it up a little bit, but like, like everybody else, it, uh, budget friendly plus introducing my kids. This will be my boy's second year running.
00:59:52
Speaker
The oldest is mostly into it. Um, So it's kind of one of those deals I'll race a couple times, and then I'm gonna become the old man that turns the wrenches and fixes shit and just watch my watch the new generation take over.
01:00:06
Speaker
So yeah that and film and do my YouTube channel besides the network. So keep going. Keep that stuff going. But I love it. it's Some of the people I've watched when some of these stock vehicles, I don't know how they do it.
01:00:23
Speaker
Um, like the just a two wheel drive Ranger, just bone stock out there thrashing, getting thrown around. I'd recommend even with stock good neck brace.
01:00:34
Speaker
I do a four point or five point harness with a decent, uh, suspension race seat. If you can do it or get a Jeep seat or a Subaru seat, something that's got a little give in it because Most of these stock vehicles, you get the fucking beat you get the shit beat out of you pretty bad. I've seen guys break their backs from it and stuff.
01:00:54
Speaker
but you can wear and look You wear a five-point harness? Yep. I learned my lesson the first time wearing just a regular seatbelt. i had I had a gash across the side of my neck and everything else getting jarred around.
01:01:09
Speaker
and I looked like looked like a crash dummy getting thrown around inside doing that stuff. so I've been... I will not race or I will not let my kids race without at least a five-point harness, even if it's a stock vehicle and a bar and a race seat, like a suspension seat. so It takes away the blunt of the ah getting beat up so bad when you're when you're running. so
01:01:36
Speaker
But yeah, it's fun. It sounds fun, and it looks it looks fun too. oh yeah. It is. where where Now, where does... Where does one apply to drive one of those?
01:01:51
Speaker
If you want to get your first taste this year, dude, and you got a free time or something, um Hartford, Ohio would probably be the best because it's a Friday night deal.
01:02:03
Speaker
um ah When it gets closer in September, I'll hit you up. I'll bring you down, buddy, and I'll throw you in the Jeep. We'll let you have your first taste of racing a rough truck, man. I'll put you behind the wheel, man.
01:02:16
Speaker
so Hey, my birthday's in September. Both of my daughters is it in September, too. Nice. And my sisters, so. Oh, yeah. Heck, yeah. yeah But, yeah, dude, the only bad part with the rough truck scene around here for us, around this area, a lot of it's during the week.
01:02:37
Speaker
So it makes it kind of hard. You got to rush around after work or request a payoff to do. get off at 1.30. Okay, okay. okay okay Um, my first, first race actually, I'll be actually the first race will be in June, end of June. It's a Saturday.
01:02:54
Speaker
Um, it's, ah they usually put it on at the Hartford fairgrounds where Corey's starting his dragon drive from later in the year. okay Um, they have a summer race that opens up for rough truck racing.
01:03:07
Speaker
I plan on having it ready for that. If you're free, dude. i'll say I'll message you or whatever. and If you're free that day, come down. and I'll strap you in because we can multi-enter.
01:03:18
Speaker
We can have three drivers driving the same vehicle so until it breaks. Oh, wow. That sounds fun. I might not do any good because I'll be laughing. I'll be having so much fun, I'll be laughing.
01:03:31
Speaker
That's the whole point. of ah That's why I love doing it, man. haven't drove so i haven't i haven't drove like that in years. Back in back in my day, you know, little beater out in the field, you know, and... Thrash on that bitch. Go have some fun.
01:03:56
Speaker
won't say anywhere else I've been. i don't want to incriminate myself. I've had many a backroads back in the day. in the Yeah.
01:04:08
Speaker
But yeah, man, if you're sure if you're serious, dude, I'm serious as a heart attack, buddy. i will I will strap you in and and i'll let I'll turn you loose to have some fun so you can get your first taste of some off-road racing and doing the rough truck racing, man, if you want to do it.
01:04:25
Speaker
we'll keep that We'll keep that in mind. Oh, yeah. totallyly Hopefully it doesn't interfere with the race car schedule. We'll see. Right, when right. hope Yeah, main main priority Is having the race car going. yeah Yep, yep, yep.
01:04:40
Speaker
But if it doesn't, we're going to get dusting in a rough truck so you can go have some fun. yeah i've I've never done rough. I've done road course racing.
01:04:53
Speaker
I've done pavement, asphalt, and drag, and then I did a four-wheeler drag. Nice. But yeah, dude, well... That and Johnny's actually supposed to come down with one of our other buddies um in July, the week of actually the Knox County Fair to come hang out and everything else for that week on a vacation in July.
01:05:16
Speaker
So maybe in July during the fair week, that Wednesday night of the rough truck, maybe we can all get together and you can come down and hang out for the night or whatever if you don't want to drive back.
01:05:31
Speaker
I got plenty of room. You guys can crash at my place for the night and we'll get something squared away. guys can come watch the, the, what we call the super bowl rough trucks at Knox County fair.
01:05:42
Speaker
Since it's the OG ordeal, it's, it's everybody's bucket list race. The win is a modified racer. So and we got heck yeah. Yeah.
01:05:54
Speaker
Yep. That, and I got to get with some people here in the next couple of weeks. It, uh, I'm actually going to do my first time promoting an event at the end of October, second week of October. I'm actually trying to put a rough truck on event on myself to give back to the racing community. so Heck yeah. Excuse me for a minute. I'll be right back.
01:06:18
Speaker
You're fine, buddy. Oh, yeah.
01:06:25
Speaker
Zimpius, you're such an ass. I wouldn't have it in any other way, bud.
01:06:34
Speaker
But yeah, Johnny, that that'd be cool we can all get together when you guys come down if things work out for us. That'd be awesome. Hell yeah. i I told you guys, man, that they were this is the OG and you get to see the side of Dustin that I get to see at the racetrack.
01:06:58
Speaker
I'm going to go to company all day long. Oh yeah. But yeah, man, its i like I said, dude. um I had to plug my phone in. You might lose me.
01:07:09
Speaker
All righty. If you want. I'm um um plugged i'm plugged in, so we're I'm going to keep going until I die. Hell yeah. Okay, we can do that, man. Real quick, before we get any further in, you want to shout out your sponsors for 2025, dude, and the ones that you're hoping to have. that I see the main one.
01:07:29
Speaker
That shirt down there. Hell yeah. Hot shot secrets, baby. i yeah by kyle Kyle takes care of me and I am beyond thankful that me and him hooked up through through mutual friends and i can't i can't say it enough for what they do for me.
01:07:55
Speaker
Not only you, just the community all around the motorsports. Oh, geez. Yeah, they have their hands in a lot. Yes. It is amazing to see.
01:08:06
Speaker
See this little town, Morrow County business that started basically in somebody's garage to becoming a world-renowned phenomenon in the motorsports community, dude. It is amazing.
01:08:23
Speaker
You know, I walk into an auto parts store and i mean, I don't, this is cool for me. So I can walk into an auto parts store or a rural King and I'm walking in the automotive and I'm like, that company sponsors me.
01:08:41
Speaker
And, you know, and that feel good that's, it it does. It does. know, cause I'm, I'm not, I'm not big time. You know, I don't, I don't have,
01:08:53
Speaker
A lot of followers. you know I don't have a lot of sponsors. Financial sponsors, that's not my thing. I want your product or your service.
01:09:05
Speaker
if you If you offer a business that has that that does service, you know like maybe you can do something for me. If you have a product, I want to use your product.
01:09:18
Speaker
That's like a lot of my sponsors. So you want me give ah a shout out to them? Oh, yeah. Hit us with it, buddy. Well, for first and foremost, I got to give a shout out to Hot Shots.
01:09:34
Speaker
oh let's see. So we got Rocket Track Prep. um They've been with me ever since the Marion County days. They've always, Seth and Brian, have always, you know, hey, you need anything, get hold of us.
01:09:51
Speaker
And Great people. very Very knowledgeable. and They're doing good things too in the in the prep side. Oh, yeah. and yeah Then ah my my engine guy, um Level Performance.
01:10:10
Speaker
um we'll be back We'll be back with them with a with another bullet. Hell yeah, dude. And then ah Buffer Zone, Detailing. They They take care of my truck.
01:10:24
Speaker
Um, let's see who else do we have?
01:10:30
Speaker
Uh, a few of them are kind of, uh, don't know what they want to do yet. So i don't really have much set in stone per se,
01:10:48
Speaker
but, uh, we we'll find some We'll find some more to replace the ones that you know don't want to be a part of anymore.
01:11:02
Speaker
um i think my vinyl guy is going to come back. That would be SignArt. um i think I think Jerry wants to come back on.
01:11:14
Speaker
and I have a a guy. he ah He paints lures. And I tried to put his name out there. um Trying to think of the name real quick. You got me on the spot.
01:11:35
Speaker
Again, I'm getting good at this with you. Yeah. High-tech custom-painted baits out of Sandusky, Ohio. He does a lot of walleye baits.
01:11:47
Speaker
Yeah. So all all those businesses... give me a service or a product. And to me, that's more than, you know, someone giving me money, money, money's good.
01:12:03
Speaker
I accept money, but I would rather, i would, some people say, Oh, well i gave that guy money and, you know, and he's out doing this or that. Well, I, I rather have a service or a product and that can keep me going.
01:12:20
Speaker
I've seen that here lately. That's been actually the big talk since we're on the sponsorship stuff where it's getting harder and I see people are doing the bickering about sponsors and everything else and you hit it right on the head with a lot of the main sponsors. What they want is what you're doing.
01:12:42
Speaker
You're giving them – you are using their product. You are producing – um what their product does you're sharing their product out you're not all about what you can get you're it's ah it's a it's an actual mutual 50 50 you're giving you guys are give and take for each other instead of just like a lot of these people oh i want this big sponsor take their money shout them out one time the whole reeseason
01:13:15
Speaker
This man right here, every one of his sponsors, if it deals with racing with his car, they're always always announced. Or if they got something on their Facebook pages, Dustin's a prime example, man, of what takes he takes care of his sponsors like they take care of him. He is always sharing their stuff. so I try. i want to see everyone succeed. Okay.
01:13:42
Speaker
zius you zephus you are your own whorehouse man shut up you you are sponsored it's called the zempious whorehouse yeah he always livens the chat up man this i know yeah i love about him too but yeah it's good to see you well yeah man you're you're in my eyes after reading all this and taking information from that I'm trying to get sponsors to help with an event.
01:14:10
Speaker
You know, I'm trying to give them the product, what I want to do. This is my first time ever doing this shit. And you are a good lead example.
01:14:20
Speaker
Corey's a good lead example on what they, the product you want to outcome you want with the help from this sponsorship. That's what I love about it.
01:14:31
Speaker
And then there's a couple other ones. Another big hotshot secret sponsored racer. Fucking the man. Big big boost Bill Lutz, dude. Big boost, yeah.
01:14:42
Speaker
Dude, that guy right there is another prime example. Yes, he's well known in the race heads up games, but he's not afraid. Him and Dylan and all those guys, that whole group, his group, they're always sharing their sponsors, what they do for them, everything else. I mean, you you can't ask for better examples between you and him Yes, he may be up on the higher stage, but you guys to me are equals when it comes to sharing what sponsors do for you, how you how it helps your program.
01:15:18
Speaker
You guys are prime examples of what the racing community needs man when it comes to you guys getting the backing you do. You guys are on both levels. yeah He's the high end.
01:15:29
Speaker
You're the average show, guys. You're our average Joe guy. You're you there. And it's just amazing what you guys do.
01:15:41
Speaker
Also a prime example on why people even have sponsors, right? You like what they do. You like what they give you. So you use that to its fullest performance. Dude, that's that's that perfect symbiosis, if you will, between having that sponsorship.
01:15:55
Speaker
It's a perfect example of that.
01:15:59
Speaker
Anymore, I also like to call them partnerships. Yes. It actually is. Actually, that's what it is. And it's not a any anymore. It's not a sponsorship. You're right, Dustin.
01:16:12
Speaker
You are making a committed kind of relationship between the business and yourself. So, yes, I like that term better than sponsorship, man.
01:16:22
Speaker
You nailed that right on the head. Oh, for sure. But But there's people out there, dude, that they abuse that shit and it's a shame because it makes guys like me, like you.
01:16:33
Speaker
You want to actually do what you're doing, but yet, well, I'm not doing that because so-and-so big name burnt me. I'm not going to take the chance with some somebody that's not because is he going to do the same thing?
01:16:46
Speaker
Give me my a chance. Give me a chance to prove myself and you'll see the night and day difference. But they don't want to do that because they've been burnt so much. I've been saying about that, about my ability for a while now is, you know, all I need is the opportunity.
01:17:03
Speaker
Give me the opportunity to do some of these things or, you know, that I'm not, that I'm not doing a chance to go to some of these bigger bracket races. And I can, I know I can perform with the, with the best of them.
01:17:20
Speaker
And Zempheus just hit it at the head. The info that Average Joes gives is what makes the top as good as they are. Yes. where If it wasn't for us, us people on the bottom side, man, where the fuck actually would these businesses be or these big-time racers have if it wasn't for us taking our hard-earned money trying to make something for ourselves to give them these big-dames products or give you the opportunity like yourself because we use the stuff.
01:17:49
Speaker
i mean, that's the thing. You have have to start from somewhere. Right. So even those big time people had to start from some sort of similar level at one point in their career. Yeah.
01:18:00
Speaker
Mm hmm. Just just some of the others. How do we say falls in a pile shit comes smelling a rose just because they know just the right people. Yeah. And it, and it sucks because those people are given a golden opportunity. This man wants the opportunity to do and they squander it away.
01:18:21
Speaker
Yeah. But then there's people with talents like yours, brother, where you you're rising up through and the right people notice you and the right people help you take off. Right. And that's, and that's always been a goal mine. i know that's always been a goal with Dustin since I met him in, I mean, it,
01:18:37
Speaker
we we strive to be better the next day than what we were yesterday. And that's the way you got to look at things.
01:18:45
Speaker
And that's a line I'm stealing from you because you told me that at the racetrack. That's where that line came from. So that quote Dustin on that one, because he's the one that said that line to me when I first met him, be better than you were yesterday.
01:19:01
Speaker
yeah and he's And that's always something I'm stuck by. It does.
01:19:08
Speaker
I missed that 2023 season. Man, I'll tell you what. That was some of the best Saturdays I had at Pacemakers, dude. That was great time. I mean, by far, that was my best year of racing in my career. Dude, nobody could touch you out there.
01:19:28
Speaker
the The people that I met and came in contact with and partied with and hung out with, that was that was great. I loved it. Oh, yeah.
01:19:39
Speaker
Greatest thing of that season for me it was me and you becoming good friends, man. That was my highlight of that season. That was a great time. I miss it. Heck yeah, brother. hopefully Hopefully somebody gets their heads out of their asses, man, um and get our chat and this chat back up and going so you can come down more. We'll see what happens.
01:19:59
Speaker
But, dude... I'm going to have to take the time and make it to, if you're racing at 42 or going to Norwalk or come down to Darnia, which used to be national trails, man, and index racing and stuff, I'm definitely going get with you.
01:20:14
Speaker
But we're also have to get, when race car stuff's not involved, going to have to get together and hang out sometime just to hang out, man. Hell yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely.
01:20:27
Speaker
Yeah, I'll ah'll definitely come down to, uh, Durana Trails. Dude, that's I love... I'm always going to come back to Trails.
01:20:40
Speaker
Yeah, that's technically my other home trap for me besides Pacemakers, man, was Trails. That's where I cut my teeth. and is there Is there any news on Pacemakers?
01:20:53
Speaker
Still up in the air, buddy. Still up in the air. The last news I heard from the rumor mill... Kyle and company still trying to get Nelson to sell the place to him so we can keep the track alive.
01:21:07
Speaker
Thank God for the racers appreciation that hot shots held out at pacemakers. Kept the track a track for another year because if they wouldn't have held an event out there by the time the season ended in October,
01:21:22
Speaker
The track was permanently closed. Thank you, Kyle and Hot Shots. I know you guys may not see this, but you guys at least give us a hope and prayer for pacemakers to stay open.
01:21:33
Speaker
so Because you put on your racer fan racer and fan appreciation ah race and barbecue and everything out here at my home track.
01:21:44
Speaker
um Hopefully, 2026, somebody step is allowed to step up and either rent the track actually purchase the track from Mr. Nelson um yeah so we can keep the rich history going because 2026 is actually the 70th anniversary of Pacemaker's Dragway in Mount Vernon, Ohio, man.
01:22:07
Speaker
And I'd love to see it open for its 70th year. So do
01:22:15
Speaker
so if anybody's listening with a bunch of money... Once I own a racetrack. Hell yeah. Yeah, the only downfall about what pacemakers, man, what sucks is, is this is from the horse's mouth itself.
01:22:30
Speaker
Only reason he don't want to sell is because of a divorce agreement. So that's the only shitty part this track's suffering for. So that's that's the bad part. Us local racers and everything else are suffering over greed situation. So...
Racing Optimism and Industry Developments
01:22:47
Speaker
i mean But I'm going be optimistic. I mean, that's the only thing we can do. But I got plenty of plenty of drag ships around me within a half hour, 45 minutes away. Right. Still get to hang hang out and kick it with Dustin and all my other racing buddies if I travel to them and stuff. so But, yeah, that's on my bucket list to hit some more races this year.
01:23:09
Speaker
um Also, no more tracks close. Man, with what IHRA is doing, dude, I hope this isn't going to be a big letdown, but I don't think it is with the money they're putting in these tracks they're purchasing.
01:23:26
Speaker
It sure is sounding good. the best The best highlight of it all, even though it's not a track I've been to, is the purchase of, what was it, Attica or whatever, right underneath NHRA's nose before PRI.
01:23:42
Speaker
But the biggest highlight of 2025 was we are getting Memphis International Raceway open back up, which is the granddaddy of them all, grassroots racing in the Midwest.
01:23:57
Speaker
Plus the dirt tracks getting open back up too. At Memphis? Yes. They purchased Memphis. So... no it will it will be It is actually hosting the IHRA Bracket Racing Finals for 2026, man. It will be held at Memphis this year.
01:24:20
Speaker
Yes, it's all over Facebook. I was a part of that in 2019 when I won the my last, well, ah not my last championship.
01:24:33
Speaker
I was the 2019 Sportsman Champion. At Marion County. And I got to i got to go to Memphis. um Then 23, I got to go to Mississippi.
01:24:48
Speaker
Is that where they held it at for when you won the track championship at Pacemakers? Was it miss Mississippi? so Yeah, I went to Holly Springs, Mississippi.
01:24:59
Speaker
Nice. That was fun. That's another rich history racetrack in the country, too, is Holly Springs.
01:25:08
Speaker
Xanthius, I wish Dara would make it because technically the guy that rented the track, IHRA, was the sponsor track for Pacemakers. um My thing with that track is it's a smaller eighth-mile track.
01:25:27
Speaker
It needs upgraded. It would be awesome to for him to come in and actually do that. oh no But the but I don't see it happening.
01:25:39
Speaker
it'd be It'd be awesome because it's right in his own back, Daryl's backyard. um We'll see. maybe Maybe once he's done, the dust settles. Maybe he can convince and pull some strings and buy it. That'd be awesome.
01:25:54
Speaker
I volunteer to be a track manager since I helped run the track that one year with Drew. The year that Dustin won his bracket title, 2023, I was actually working at the track. So I know what it takes to...
01:26:06
Speaker
And a lot of hard work and dedication to run a track and put on races, but I'd give it a shot. Hell yeah. just to keep it Just to keep the track alive and keep the racers happy and stuff. and i would be willing I'd be willing to work with Dragway 42 and Trails, maybe do a...
01:26:28
Speaker
Would be cool to do a point series race between the battle of the tracks for IHRA. I think that'd be kind of cool. That'd be awesome. Sounds cool. That'd be something to be cool somebody could do.
01:26:41
Speaker
I know Drew was trying to do that, and things just didn't pan out. um Yeah. With trails being an NHRA track at the time still, so...
01:26:52
Speaker
But that would be kind of cool to do a battle that gets your top ten guys or top five guys and have a bracket battle in all the the divisions to see who's got the best racers at the track, you know?
01:27:06
Speaker
think it would be kind of cool to do.
01:27:11
Speaker
Sounds fun. I'm game. This sounds awesome, dude. Right? on al I'm down in a race, and I'll race anything. Hell yeah. oh yeah Johnny, you got any questions you want to ask Dustin? i Anything.
Racing Achievements and Competitive Spirit
01:27:31
Speaker
ah What's next on your agenda for the upcoming year, man?
01:27:38
Speaker
Well, when I get off this podcast, I'm to make me a pizza. but Fuck yeah. but ah now so thursday Thursday I'll be running the hangover race at driveway 42.
01:27:54
Speaker
And, uh, after that, I don't have anything until I, so I get some, I get my cylinder heads back tomorrow and then um save, save up some more money, get a short block together, put the motor back in the car and then I'm gonna, I'll be racing.
01:28:17
Speaker
Hopefully, you know, april you know when ah when the season starts around here. can all if i if i heard me get back out there If I can get out there sooner, you know, if anyone listening has some money they want to throw around or whatever.
01:28:39
Speaker
This guy would make a good partnership. He won't disappoint, man. Just shout out there now. I work hard. I work hard and That's what it's about, man.
01:28:50
Speaker
I like to win. like to be competitive.
01:28:55
Speaker
Motivated. I can appreciate that. For me, that's... Yeah, and that's the... It is fun. And i've I started racing losing all the time because I you know didn't know what I was doing.
01:29:12
Speaker
And then I stepped back a little bit and I started watching my friends at the time race. And got to know all, got to know everything. And just, you know, kept my mouth shut and my ears open.
01:29:29
Speaker
And then I just said, I can do this. And i started I started racing. I so i started winning. And I'm like, heck yeah, that's let's keep doing this. This is fun.
01:29:42
Speaker
And now at you know with with where I'm at now, I'm like, hell yeah. I love it. i'll race I'll race the the the best guys out there, and it's it's a lot of fun. Even you know win or lose, it's just it makes me race harder knowing that the guy that I'm paired up against could be a, well, NHRA Pro Stock champion.
01:30:11
Speaker
you know and And I just beat him in a bracket race. Like, hell yeah. Yeah. That right there, being able to challenge yourself and then rise to that challenge each time, that's that's something, bro.
01:30:23
Speaker
Yeah. Right. That's something, man. Yeah. So, like, one one of, you know, in NHRA Pro Stock, you know, one ah one of the guys that, you know, that I watched, and and I know, I raised slot cars with this guy's family, you know, a long time ago, back in the ninety s was ah Dave Conley.
01:30:49
Speaker
And you know he race you know he he was a pro stock racer. Well, back in 2022, yeah,
01:30:59
Speaker
yeah it was 22. don't think it was 23, but I won an entry to this SFG million-dollar race. But I wasn't entered in the million. I was entered in the 320,000 to win, or two a yeah So I, I, I trailered all the way to us one 31 in Michigan.
01:31:21
Speaker
And, um, you know, they, they call us up in the lanes, and you know, and there's, you know, all these heavy, everyone's a heavy hitter, you know, everyone that's pulling up. It's like, you know, they've been in magazines, they've won big checks. They've won a lot of money, you know and here I am.
01:31:38
Speaker
We went by what some would call, you know, piece of shit Malibu and I'm squared up against, NHRA pro stock champion, Dave Conley, you know, it's like, holy shit, you know? And yeah. And I, and I beat them and I'm like, hell yeah.
01:31:55
Speaker
You know? Well, it shows you got yourself there for a reason. Yeah. So, and I, and I knew at the time, you know, you can do this. You know, I put a lot of work in mentally and physically,
01:32:07
Speaker
to to put myself, you know, at at the level where I can say, yeah, can, I can compete against the best of them and win against the best. I just need the opportunity to be there.
01:32:20
Speaker
Respect that. Zempia Zempia asked, uh, Dustin, what kind of heads you got, bud that you're getting tomorrow? I'm just picking up some, uh, some worked on heads, uh,
01:32:39
Speaker
maybe they might be for some 317s, but I sent them out to get ported, and I pick them up tomorrow. Zempius, you can't hide money, bud, when you mention the word dart cylinder heads, dude.
01:32:58
Speaker
That's a good brand of cylinder heads, though. I mean, know they're a good brand. That company's a good company. They're not They're not dart they're they're gm heads. Well, his he's a he's a dart he's a dart head he put he's a dart fan, and i was like, yeah, you can't hide money when you're a dart fan. Ah, yeah. yeah those are good I wish I could afford some dart heads. Hell yeah, dude.
01:33:21
Speaker
That'd make that motor come alive. we i think I think if I had like maybe a bigger cam, yeah um I'm running flat top pistons.
01:33:35
Speaker
So maybe if I had a little bit more compression, but with ah with the, with the, with the time that I'm going, that that's all I want. Now I don't, I don't want something exotic that I'm going to have to maybe work on, you know, not, not saying that I won't work on it, but like with the motor that was in the Malibu that was built in 2017 and it just expired at 25. So to have,
01:34:02
Speaker
so to have Eight years? That's fucking good. you know it' very Now, let's let's say three of those years, the the rest of the car was being built.
01:34:14
Speaker
So it was just you know startup in the garage. But like my you know my first few years, you know that car repeated the number. And then when they had the seven flat index stuff going on, I just found formula that worked for me.
01:34:31
Speaker
a formula that worked for me or I don't know what to call it, but it it worked for me. And that car would go from a 698 to 703 any day, any track, any weather prep or no prep.
01:34:55
Speaker
And that I loved it. So with my new build, It's probably going to be a little faster, but I'm going to slow it down just I can run 7-0 again. Hell yeah, dude.
01:35:06
Speaker
Oh, and just so everybody knows, too, we actually have a celebrity in the house in Dustin. Uh-oh. This gentleman has also ran the MPK Street Outlaw Series in the 7-0 index.
01:35:20
Speaker
So technically, I got i got me a a celebrity on the show. so Nice. he has done... so he's he's he has done done the seeing the side of the MP when MPK was there and stuff.
01:35:34
Speaker
He has raced it. So technically I have a celebrity, even though it wasn't the big, you know, the bang show, but he was part of part of the program that they put on for it and everything else.
01:35:45
Speaker
So yeah, I've actually got a celebrity right here on speedway stories, everybody. So I've raced a NPK. I did that for three years. i did a Columbus,
01:35:58
Speaker
I've done Bowling Green, Kentucky. I've done Norwalk. um Did you go up to Michigan when they did that up there at Martin?
01:36:09
Speaker
No. No, I did not because I know what the weather is like in – I think it was at the beginning of October.
01:36:20
Speaker
Yeah. I know what the weather is like up there because I – I used to run or i used to race in the bracket finals for division five IHRA and it was always at us one 31.
01:36:32
Speaker
And i want to say right when it would start to get dark, the do sets in and they would call it. yeah they They ain't sending no cars down the track with, you know, with the do starting, you know, because shit just starts to wrecking. So I knew at the time, you know, when that race was scheduled, I'm like, uh, it's kind of iffy, you know, if it's,
01:36:53
Speaker
If it's 50 degrees, it's going to be cold up there. o Zipheus just shared that that him and his dad's got a dart block and heads. It's a small block, 434.
01:37:05
Speaker
And then he just commented, well, this is the thing. it's still hes His dad still won't do nothing with it, so it's just sitting there he said. that's a good That's a good little setup for a 434. I've seen some cars set up.
01:37:21
Speaker
Bracket cars with that setup in it, man. That do pretty damn good. Fuck yeah. Since we are talking the MPK, um what was it like?
01:37:33
Speaker
Let everybody know. I know we've talked about it in the past, but we can let everybody else have been tuned in before when you did race that when I had you up here afterwards. um What was it like doing?
01:37:44
Speaker
During that time frame with the production of them filming that and stuff, what was it like for you guys being what they called, you said, the filler class, I guess, when they did the index racing?
01:37:55
Speaker
Well, the cameras were around, but they were not around us.
01:38:02
Speaker
um We were background. i can I can say that there were times where we would get the text to report to the lanes, but And we might be sitting in the lanes for an hour because the show must go. Not the not the clowns in the 7-0 class.
01:38:27
Speaker
The show must go. So there was that. i wish it could have been, you know, a little better. But, you know, it is what it is. Wasn't my production. Wasn't my track.
01:38:42
Speaker
Wasn't my race. But i I wanted to run the 7.0 stuff because the people, oh my God, the people that I've met at NPK that would come down and, you know, and they would they would look at my car and think it was the world.
01:39:02
Speaker
And I'm sitting there thinking, I'm like, well, did you see, like, Kai Kelly's car? You know, that's a bad car. you know, when you're looking at my car, you know, admiring my car,
01:39:15
Speaker
and you know that was cool. you know i I did get to sell some merch. I met some people. and I can't really remember their name, but I know for the three years that I ran at Trails for the NPK stuff, they came and visited me every year. so that was That was awesome.
01:39:36
Speaker
that was yeah That was real good. but yeah Johnny, anything else? We're about ready to wrap up so Dustin can go make his homemade famous pizzas that he's been working on.
