The Israelites are waiting to enter the promise land, and Moses is reminding them of who they are. He says- you are the Lord's children. Something we all need to take in! This lead me to go over other verses about how God is our Father, and what kind of a father He is. He is compassionate, tender, forgiving. Our rebellious hearts just need to return to Him. Then our faith grows, and we know who we are. Just like it says in Galatians 3:26- we are children of God through our faith. I pray our faith grows and we know deeply how loved we are.

Filling You Up With Hope
Hi, it's Abby from Filling You Up with Hope. I'm so glad that you're here. Every week, every most of the time, Mondays, we go through God's Word. We started in Genesis. We are in Deuteronomy. We find so much hope. We talk about mental health things and parenting things and all sorts of things. but But the heart of it is the hope there is in the good news.

The Secure Base: Attachment and Identity

00:00:31
Filling You Up With Hope
of um Jesus, so I'm thankful you're here. Today, the verse in Deuteronomy that we're going through, it really made me think about that we are God's children. We're God's loved children, and we we go through so many so many wonderful things, and we go through challenging things,
00:01:00
Filling You Up With Hope
And I think that deeply and taking in the verses that we're going through, they it gives us more confidence. it it It makes us feel like we have more of a secure base. um This week I did this training that was so good on attachment theory.
00:01:29
Filling You Up With Hope
and the different types of attachment. And really the healthiest kind is having a secure base, being like secure in your relationships because you know that you're loved, you know that you're okay, right? Sometimes we're anxiously attached or avoidantly attached. and But this secure base, I feel like really knowing and taking in these verses and that you are God's child. He made you. He loves you. And really taking that in is going to give you more of a secure base.

Moses and the Identity of God's Chosen People

00:02:12
Filling You Up With Hope
It's going to make you feel more confident in who you are, not because of anything you've done, but because you were made by God and because God is mighty. He's amazing. And
00:02:27
Filling You Up With Hope
So you can face those things that you're going through and that we're all going through. So let, so just a refresher that Israelites are, are waiting to enter the promised land and Moses is going through many things. Like we talked about, he was like chronicling what they went through with Israelites have been through and he was encouraging them.
00:02:54
Filling You Up With Hope
And he's also going through like laws and regulations. He's getting them ready. And um so that leads us up to Deuteronomy 14, one through two. That's the verse in Deuteronomy for this week. There's other verses we're gonna go through, but this is the Deuteronomy one. You, you are the Lord's children. Don't cut yourselves, shave your foreheads for the dead.
00:03:24
Filling You Up With Hope
because you are a people holy to the Lord your God. You are the ones whom the Lord selected to be his own, to be a treasured people out of all of the people on earth. Wow. To be a treasure treasured people out of all the people on earth. Like Moses is telling the people this inspired by God like they're going into this land but like we've talked about they they aren't going to be alone they are surrounded very close by by people who live in ways that aren't good for them in ways that God doesn't want them to live they're worshiping other gods they're doing all these things cutting yourself like it says in this verse
00:04:22
Filling You Up With Hope
And Moses is encouraging building up the people, giving them this secure base. um And how, what does he start with with that secure base? You are the Lord's children. Like that is something that we should be telling ourselves when we're talking about positive thoughts and the way God wants us to think.
00:04:49
Filling You Up With Hope
We, this is building ourself up. You were made by God. You were knit together in your mother's womb. You were fearfully and wonderfully made. It's, it's such a reminder of our identity. Um, cause it's easy to forget who we are and God knew that that was going to happen to the Israelites.
00:05:18
Filling You Up With Hope
So many of them, when you go through kings, right? um So many of these of these different kings and different people, different Israelites, they started worshipping other gods. Even King Solomon, who was so wise, so wise, wrote wrote books in the Bible and had was known for his wisdom. He married someone from, to worship to other gods and it influenced him. And he made that choice to worship other gods. So if, I mean, it can happen to him, it can happen to any of us.

Verses Reinforcing Identity and Hope

00:06:06
Filling You Up With Hope
And so we have to take it in so deeply our identity.
00:06:11
Filling You Up With Hope
and who we are. So that's why we're going through these verses today about God, our Father, because our identity, like the first verse, like we said, is you are the Lord's children. So these are our verses to remind us of that. Because man, it makes me sit taller, it makes me feel um so much more confident
00:06:39
Filling You Up With Hope
that I can't do these things that I'm facing, but I'm God's child. So with him, if it's something that he wants me to do, then I can do it. And it's not because of me, it's because of him working through me. And that's the same with all of us. So the first, so now we're gonna go through seven different verses that I think are just gonna Just give you so much hope. And just reminding yourself of these verses throughout the week, throughout the day,
00:07:14
Filling You Up With Hope
um throughout the month. Just to remind yourself. The first one is Matthew 6. And Matthew 6 is the Lord's Prayer, right? And many of us have said the Lord's Prayer so many times and that we just maybe say the words and we don't and we forget the meaning and this is just our Father who art in heaven. Now Jesus is telling it's telling people how to pray right this is how to pray our Father who art in heaven. He could have said my Father like because Jesus is
00:08:03
Filling You Up With Hope
because God is his father, right? But he says our father. And that that wording is we need to to take in. he If Jesus is saying it, it is true. He is your father. God is your father. So that the next time we're saying the Lord's Prayer, like remembering that,
00:08:32
Filling You Up With Hope
that God is our father. And then um we have Psalm 68, five through six. Father of orphans and defender of widows is God in his holy dwelling. He's a father father of orphans.
00:08:55
Filling You Up With Hope
we So many of us um feel deep, deep loneliness. with different things that we've been through in life. um I know for me, like when my mom died, I felt, i was I was very young, but I felt so close to her that I definitely did feel like an orphan, even though my dad was still alive, but um there was just this deep loneliness that that we feel sometimes. But we need to know that God
00:09:33
Filling You Up With Hope
is the cure for that. He is the father of orphans.

God's Compassion and Forgiveness

00:09:39
Filling You Up With Hope
He's your father. No matter what you have been through, God is your father. And he is a forgiving father. This is Jeremiah 3.14. Return rebellious children declares the Lord. Jeremiah 3.14. Like the Israelites, right?
00:10:02
Filling You Up With Hope
fallen short, worshiped other gods, haven't turned to God the way that he wants them to, right? At all. Haven't turned to their father, yet still, still return rebellious children. He still wants them to return. And it reminds me of the prodigal son that This son wasted his father's wealth, made all of these choices that were not healthy at all, but his father's arms are wide open. Return rebellious children, declares the Lord. He just wants us to return to him. So no matter how far away you feel,
00:10:58
Filling You Up With Hope
We, he wants us to, he just wants us to return to him and to cry out to him. And that that there's nothing too far. So this Jeremiah three 14 is a reminder that none of us are too far. And that is the cure to the loneliness that we feel. Um, Mmm.
00:11:28
Filling You Up With Hope
This is Psalm 103, one through three. God is like a father to his children, compassionate and tender to those who fit to it to those who fear him, compassionate and tender. Like there's many of us who haven't been treated that way. Like we can't take in, um it's hard for us to take in his goodness, his compassion, his love. And it's,
00:11:58
Filling You Up With Hope
It's just a reminder that even if we haven't experienced it, we can experience it. It is. We just need to cry out.
00:12:18
Filling You Up With Hope
So how do we have this compassion, this tenderness? We need faith. And Galatians 3 26 is so good. It's a reminder of what we need. Okay. So in Christ Jesus, you are all children of God through faith. Our faith in Jesus Christ in jesus christ confirms our identity as a child of God. So our faith in Jesus.
00:12:52
Filling You Up With Hope
it and it's Our faith is so many things. um On TikTok and Instagram, I'm going through the armor of God in Ephesians 6 in October. And the shield is our faith, right? That's what protects us. And our faith in our faith is so important. And I i think Taking in that, that we're, that we're his child, that he made us, that he knit us together. He made you for a reason, for a purpose that will see make our, like what we're talking about, make our base more secure and make our faith grow. Our roots be deepened because that faith is what confirms our identity.
00:13:49
Filling You Up With Hope
And we really need our identity confirmed as we face all these different things, or we could just melt into the the things around us and not have the confidence to live the way that God wants us to live. It's so easy to to fall into peer pressure and just um to fall into the ways around us.

Joy and Identity as God's Children

00:14:14
Filling You Up With Hope
And so this secure base.
00:14:18
Filling You Up With Hope
um such an important thing. oh
00:14:25
Filling You Up With Hope
These are all so good. These last two. 1 John 3, 1. How great is the love, how great is the love of the the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God and that is what we are. and Like it should make us so joyful.
00:14:49
Filling You Up With Hope
that the love that God has given us and that we are called children of God and that that's our identity. That that brings that brings us all great joy and we need that joy, that deep, deep, deep joy as as we face the things in life. Then we can praise God. Paul was praising God when he was in shackles, in prison, um because he knew it so deeply who he was. That's how deep his faith was.
00:15:32
Filling You Up With Hope
and and this is going Taking this in deeply is really going to help our mental health. And in Luke 12 is, you know, Jesus is, is, is telling, telling people to not to worry. Um, and this is Luke 12 32. Don't be afraid little flock because your father delights in giving you the kingdom. What? How amazing.
00:16:11
Filling You Up With Hope
the eternal life we have with Jesus. If we have given our if we have given our heart to him and repented, right? Like not we don't need to be afraid of the things that we face.
00:16:30
Filling You Up With Hope
And your father delights in giving you the kingdom. Your father, like the deep, deep joy that reading these verses gives us, right? and um what it So Moses was instilling this, um trying to instill in the Israelites who they were, right? And God knew that they were going to fall short, right?
00:17:07
Filling You Up With Hope
And they had, while they were wandering in the desert, they had complained and they wanted to go back to Egypt. And and even so, he, and even though God knew, um and he knew their rebellious hearts, just like our rebellious hearts, he just wants us to to run to him. And what what a gift that that we can do that.

Conclusion: Embrace God's Love

00:17:39
Filling You Up With Hope
so I just hope that these verses just reminded you of the loved child of God that you are and that they helped you with that secureness in your identity.
00:17:59
Filling You Up With Hope
