Game Setup: Role-playing with 'Kids on Bikes'

00:00:54
Speaker
Hello, everybody, and welcome to Eberron Renewed, an actual play RPG podcast. Today we are continuing our one shot of the kids on bikes game system. I will repeat having no idea now that it's almost two weeks later what's going on in the world, I will repeat just because I genuinely hope that everybody's safe and healthy and happy. So. What happened last time? Oh, wait, hey, I'm Jeff.
00:01:23
Speaker
I'm Philip. I'm Trevor. I'm here. We're remote again. That's that's Eric and Randy, guys. So what happened in our last episode?

Remote Recording and Host Introductions

00:01:37
Speaker
We tried. Well, Stephanie saw brick getting lured into the woods by a glowing, high, high drew. What? Who drew? Ultra.
00:01:49
Speaker
You could also say Holdurr. Holdurr is just the feminine version. I found out there is a male version. Oh, we'll bring it on. We attempted to go rescue him. Or that was our goal. We attempted to attempt to rescue him. We got stopped by the fuzz. You had the thought of rescuing him. We were trying to gather together to concoct a plan. But adults got in the way. They did.
00:02:16
Speaker
Some big mouth little kid. No need to argue. Parents just don't understand. But it turns out there's a. There's a whole thing in this town, huh? There's a secret. Yes, the Youth League.

Magical History and Youth League

00:02:30
Speaker
When you graduate out of it, you learn about magic stuff. You be. Well, when you go through the Youth League, I guess I can tell you guys this now. This would have been explained to you, I think. When you go through the Youth League,
00:02:44
Speaker
towards the end of it as you get older basically you're introduced to all of this stuff this this magic history of the town and whether you are like a
00:02:58
Speaker
Leslie and granddad and really kind of embrace it, or if you're just like Stephanie's dad and just are open to it down the road. Or there's a third path for those who saw a certain adeptness or proclivity.

Franklin's Magical Abilities

00:03:14
Speaker
And that third path is what happened to the guy who spoke at the very end of the last episode. A student you guys know, a kid named Franklin,
00:03:27
Speaker
Franklin said, we need somebody who can do magic. Franklin looked at you all and said, you should have stayed in Youthly. It's gonna be a fun voice to do long term. Well, I'm gonna soften it up. It was an introductory thing.

Plan to Trap the Huldra

00:03:43
Speaker
I want each one of you to tell me your what your character knows or thinks about about Franklin. He's probably a couple years older than you guys. He's probably a senior. So Alex, if it is possible that you only know him by sight, you don't know anything about him. But each of you tell me let's go just since we're not all here together. Let's go.
00:04:05
Speaker
In the same order you introduced, let's go Phillip, Trevor, Randy, Eric. What is something you know about Franklin or how does your character relate to Franklin? Keeping in mind, he's a handful of years older than. Franklin taught Rick how to play D&D. Oh, great. That's me. Sorry. Stephanie thinks that Franklin is Rick's science tutor.
00:04:36
Speaker
OK. And that's really all she does. OK. Alex just thinks he's a weird older kid. Alex is not totally wrong. Yeah, I think I think Duncan started out like started on the path of Youth League. I think mom encouraged it just to give him something to do and maybe encountered Franklin and Franklin was just. So.
00:05:07
Speaker
odd like not not that he had like started learning about this stuff obviously because he wouldn't have been old enough but like um just was super into it like and it was like okay man that's cool and like maybe Franklin was Franklin's like attitude and personality is part of what uh pushed Duncan away from youth league like if this is how all of them are then
00:05:32
Speaker
No, thank you. So yeah, sure, sure. OK. All right, great. So just to get us back into it, the the woman Leslie had explained that she also has, which is in the game called the Willys, obviously, also is sensitive to that sort of stuff. Wish I'd put together it was a Jedi thing before I gave it to you. I'll be perfectly honest. But you're right, it sure is.

Historical Context and Magical Preparation

00:06:00
Speaker
And then Clarence, the older man, who's British for some reason, also introduced the idea of there being people who can do magic. And that's when Franklin says to you guys, let's get back into it, into the scene, Franklin says, you know, Duncan, you quit too soon and you didn't get to do any of the fun stuff.
00:06:31
Speaker
Yeah, Franklin, you know, real bummer, but don't know if you heard, but my free time kind of got eaten up with some other stuff. Franklin's not a jerk. He's just oblivious. Yeah, I think to that like he is. I think it's safe to say that once a teenager does their first real bit of magic, everything else kind of doesn't seem as important to them anymore, including anything happening around them. Two people they know and.
00:07:01
Speaker
He says, well, I guess I'm going to be traveling with you on this. And he speaks as a D&D party character because he is a dungeon master, taught you how to play Dungeons and Dragons. Says, says, well, think of it this way. If you're going to win. You need me.
00:07:29
Speaker
But if we're gonna win, we need to know more. I think Clarence is gonna fill us in on some more stuff. And uh, Clarence says, and I promise I'm shutting up after this. Clarence says, it sounds like you've learned quite a bit about the Holdra, or the Holder as it were, we have a female version that sounds like
00:08:01
Speaker
We believe the Holderer have been here before. Are you familiar with the Runestone? Yes. Of course you are, I don't know where I am. The Runestone marks a powerful place where such entities can be captured. The stories of the Great King buried beneath the Runestone are not entirely false.
00:08:30
Speaker
It was not a great King of Norway or a great Viking warrior. It was merely what is known as the Huldrakari. The Huldrakari is the male version of the Huldra. And we believe that he is trapped down there. And I believe we can send his new counterpart there with him, you see.
00:08:59
Speaker
Entrenched with the Hozra are a group called, an organization called The Tusser. The Tusser, T-U-S-S-E-R. The Tusser is an underground creature. We can pair them and trap them underground again. How, though, I am unsure. How would we find out how to do that?
00:09:31
Speaker
Granddad says, well, I think we just need to figure out what resources we have at our disposal. What we know for sure, right? The Huldra are protectors of the forest. The Huldra kidnap young men and are apparently vulnerable to magic.
00:10:01
Speaker
And what we have is a forest several young men, one of whom evidently has the ability to perform magic.

Using Iron as a Repellent

00:10:11
Speaker
It sounds as though perhaps this is a lure situation. Okay, so we gotta lure it to the runestone. It's all that makes sense to me.
00:10:30
Speaker
That was a mixture of the two of them. Hang on. Grandpa and Clarence say it once. Yeah, they're buds. Clarence says, yes, I'm afraid we do need to make sure she is here, if not actually in contact with the roomstone. Yes. Okay. This is when
00:10:56
Speaker
I'm gonna give each of you an opportunity to choose a power for Franklin, but I think one of them that Franklin knows for himself is, I know some entrapment incantations that I think might do the trick, but we're gonna have to get her there. And I don't think, there's any reason we should think she's dumb.
00:11:30
Speaker
OK. So she she lures. But is she what? What would she be attracted? Yeah, how do we learn when she chase after somebody that she wanted to lure? Have you seen brick?
00:11:54
Speaker
Well, I mean, Rick, think about think about the first time you saw her. What were you doing that caught her attention? I mean, I was just looking at the Runestone. I was reading it. Oh, you were reading it. I guess we didn't clarify an explanation. Rick has never seen. That's true. I've seen kind of a fuzzy thing. I saw her through the viewfinder of the camera. But I.
00:12:24
Speaker
And Leslie speaks up and says, yes, I understand you never saw her, but I think we have the evidence that you knew she was there, yes? Well, yeah, I mean, she made me hurl. And I saw her through my window. Yes, she saw her without a camera. But I'm a girl. Well, I think, yes, but was she interacting with you?
00:12:54
Speaker
No. No. The Hodra... Hmm, Leslie might not know this. Clarence. The Hodra have the ability to shapeshift. Primarily, it is simply to hide their more supernatural features for when they're seducing, as it were. But typically they cannot hide their tail.
00:13:23
Speaker
but they can shapeshift. So it is possible that they can choose to whom they're visible. And perhaps the reason you saw her, Stephanie, was it? Yes. Perhaps the reason you saw her is because she was choosing to make herself visible to the young man that she was trying to lure.
00:13:47
Speaker
And perhaps the reason that the rest of you could not see her when she was right there in front of you is because she chose not to be seen. The viewfinder can over- So you're saying the camera can see her regardless of whether or not she wants to be seen? I'm afraid there's just simply not enough literature written on ancient mythological beings and their interaction with technology for me to really make her
00:14:12
Speaker
a judgment call on that. We might just have to chalk that up to, I don't know, perhaps an over ambitious GM who didn't know what he was getting into. Does that make sense? I think it might make sense to Franklin and Rick, but I get it. I get it. I get it. So we got to get her to reveal herself. I mean,
00:14:42
Speaker
She was ticked off that I was messing with the Runestone, so maybe I should go mess with the Runestone. Well, Granddad says, well, let's not just go jump with the first plan. But it sounds like we need bait. Yeah, I mean, I'll know when she's nearby. Unless he says, yes, that is that is part of the reason that. But if you get lured away, like if if for some reason she gets the drop on you,
00:15:12
Speaker
and you're gone, then you're gone and we have like. Your ability to sense when she's nearby, I think would be more valuable in a utility sense as opposed to being the bait. So are you suggesting you're the bait? I'm suggesting Alex. Yes. I could be the bait. No, Alex, you're not going to be the bait.
00:15:41
Speaker
I got my slingshot. You're just not old enough. I mean, this all sounds cool, but first I got to draw the circle anyway. Okay, so. And I'll need to fix my bike. So, Franklin, maybe you're the bait. I need to do the spells.
00:16:10
Speaker
Let's let's go out there and draw the circle. We can figure out who's going to be the bait once we get there. Let's do it in the morning. Well, what about Brick? Stephanie, let me try to be clear to you. I know it seems scary. Brick is already dead. No, no, no, no, no. Brick is fine. At the very most, what will happen to
00:16:40
Speaker
Rick is he'll be in a thrall. You're going to have to use layman's terms. Kind of like he's hypnotized. OK. I don't think he's in any immediate danger. And we have to. Prepare. We do have to prepare. Here's what I'll say. Good job, Stephanie.
00:17:12
Speaker
Clarence and Leslie and I will go and make the preparations we can.
00:17:25
Speaker
I don't think I'm surprising anybody when I say that Clarence definitely was who was teaching. Franklin. Right. Yeah. Yeah. So I think Clarence can Clarence can draw the the the entrapment circle and the runes. Honestly, there's not really any reason to think that Clarence would even be on her radar being a very old man like myself. So I think
00:17:54
Speaker
He can draw the circle and why don't the five of you stay here and you guys can devise how best to get the Huldra inside of it. Okay.
00:18:12
Speaker
Okay, so the three adults, the other woman who I had there and never said any, forgot she was there, she leaves too. She's just, she's the secretary and had to be there to take the minutes, I guess. I don't know. Tina. Sure, and her name's Tina and she rules. And maybe she'll join us in the next arc. Okay. So I think they leave. And so now it's just the four of you and Franklin hanging out in founder's cabin.

Finalizing the Strategy

00:18:43
Speaker
This is suicide. There are definitely books available every time that they have a meeting. They bring kind of their little personal libraries, things they've found interesting, things they want to share. And in this case, with having had some of them see the lights and things, there are resources to look at if you would like to or you can just talk it out. I'm going to be forthright with you guys and saying there's not a right answer if you guys figure out a way without just straight up bait.
00:19:13
Speaker
to get her in the circle, you have gotten her in the circle. OK, I didn't want to have a right answer. I wanted for you guys to think laterally and figure something out. Yeah. All right. So. In myths. Creatures like this. Almost always have some kind of. Material they hate. That's that's. Repellent to them.
00:19:45
Speaker
If we could figure out what that is for a Holdra. Then maybe. We can heard her in that direction or keep her like if we can lure her there, we can trap her there. I don't know. I
00:20:10
Speaker
I mean, that's possible, but how would we find out that kind of information other than? Looks I don't know. Um. I don't know what he got. Well, I don't know. Can you guys read the runes on the stone? I can. I know. I know runes, but the runes I use in my spells are of a dark and vengeful God.
00:20:41
Speaker
I don't know what he's like. Franklin's a warlock. The runes of Azazel? I'm on board. No. Genuinely, Franklin doesn't read Norse runes. The stuff that he knows is from, you know, the general arcane, I guess. So what are the runes? You tell me what the runes say.
00:21:10
Speaker
We know that it says it commemorated a defeat of a great evil, right? Right. So... Huh. Um...
00:21:33
Speaker
I mean, standard northern European fairy tale stuff. Spirits don't like iron, like nature spirits hate iron. Like that's that's like. The. The standard with fairies and stuff. I mean, that would be my like straightforward go to. OK.
00:22:04
Speaker
Uh, so you would suggest, well, but here's the thing. If we use something that repels it and we try to like heard it in a certain direction, it can, we know it can go invisible. So at that point,
00:22:24
Speaker
we would lose track of it, right? Unless we can use the camera. I know that people like are uncertain if that's a consistent and repeatable thing. But if we can have the camera charged up and looking through the viewfinder, we might be able to keep a beat on her. But doesn't Franklin, don't you have magic? Can't you see it anyway? Even if it goes where we can't. I mean, I've never met one.
00:22:52
Speaker
So I don't really know for sure. I mean, I'll feel her. Okay. I think it's time now to explain the way the powered character works in Kids on Bikes. Yes. The way the powered character works in Kids on Bikes, Franklin being our powered character, is each one of you gets to control one power
00:23:17
Speaker
that this powered character has. There are multiple ways to decide what the powers are. I've seen in the book, basically one of the options is the GM chooses which powers they have and introduces them. Another option is the player when they need something magical to happen says, oh, and also Franklin has.
00:23:37
Speaker
telekinesis and flips the lock or whatever. And then the third way is I've got a deck of made by Renegade Games. I've got a deck of powered character cards. If you can't think of something, I can pull a card and we can figure out how it works in the situation. So when you ask Franklin, can't you see her because you're magical? The answer is maybe that's up to you. Well, that was kind of my ploy to make that a reality. OK, great. In that case, yeah, Franklin has TruSight.
00:24:07
Speaker
You have to use a D and E term. I would love to find the pseudoscientific term for that, like, you know, pyrokinesis or whatever it would be for true sight. But he has he has that. So Franklin says, Oh, yeah, yeah, I should be able to keep an eye on her. Get out there in the woods. Get out, get out there in the woods as a boy. Keep an eye on.
00:24:34
Speaker
The boy hatin' monster. That should be fine. Yeah, you can do that. Okay, okay. Are you just gonna like, I don't know what, flush her out? No, I think regardless of what our plan is after
00:24:59
Speaker
She takes the bait. We still need to, like Franklin saying, lure her out somehow. Yeah. Is there something special that Stephanie can do being a girl or is she useless? Oh, no. No, no, sorry. No, she's certainly not useless. I mean, I think. You there's a there's a bead to follow with she's holding a big piece of iron.
00:25:29
Speaker
This is the protector of trees who dislikes iron. We're gonna go with that. And you're trying, and this is the girl who the holder is not interested in seducing, at least, or thralling, at least. You have to figure out how she's gonna be useful in that.
00:25:52
Speaker
All I can think of is to start hitting trees with the iron poker. That would probably tick it off. Yeah. Could we go to the.
00:26:15
Speaker
would wrapping her in like iron chains do anything? Would we be able to like, like if we went to the old sawmill, like I bet they have some like iron chains or something there that we could like try to trip her up in and then it might be easier to get her there potentially. You know, I don't want to wrap her up in anything. I don't want to get that close to her, but we can maybe like do a perimeter. Yeah.
00:26:46
Speaker
If we flush her out, all of a sudden we're surrounding her hurting kind of thing. He said these nature creatures don't like iron. I have an iron poker. She's not going to be looking to seduce or entrap me because I'm a girl.
00:27:13
Speaker
So maybe we can catch her off guard by, I don't know, me being the bait by trying to destroy something she wants to protect. So you go around destroying or hitting the trees and you can have a perimeter ready to entrap her. Well, if you want to step in the order, if you hit the rune stone, maybe that would make her mad. Isn't the rune stone trapping one of these things?
00:27:42
Speaker
I don't know if we want to damage the Runestone, Alex. That's a good idea. What if we could get I mean, if we could get a bunch of iron things and we could sort of lay them in a big. Circle around the Runestone, but open on one side, we could try and lure her through the opening. And then close it. She couldn't go.
00:28:04
Speaker
and then when she's inside it, Franklin does this, you know, uses the force. Franklin, the circle that they're out there making right now, is that an entrantment? Like once she gets in that circle, can she get out or what's- Oh no, if she gets in the circle and I say the right incantation, she's gonna end up where the other one is. So how long is that incantation? Oh, it's about 10 seconds. Okay.
00:28:34
Speaker
I think I want to remind all of you to look at your skills and see if there are certain things you might be able to do that could help, I don't know, maybe conceal somebody who's holding a chain or. I am unassuming, though I do not have two adversary tokens, so.
00:28:54
Speaker
Others can, others can share tokens. You know, and that's, and that's my fault. I've not been making you guys roll much this session, uh, to earn tokens. So that's on me actually. Did you get one for failing to, uh, to convince the sheriff? Um, I, I did fail that and assumed it. So I used that to have the flashlight. Okay. I've got one from failing to get a sandwich. So.
00:29:20
Speaker
I didn't charm Dan. The failures in this game. Have you failed to get a sandwich? Did you take it as rich or you took it?
00:29:29
Speaker
Remember when you didn't get to choose the radio station? Did you take an adversity token? How many adversity tokens do you have? I have two. I have one. So we have four total right now. So I'm unassuming, so I can be unseen with some iron chains or whatever. I'm unassuming too, but I feel like I need to beat the bait. Yeah.
00:29:58
Speaker
If we're going to surprise her in some way, we can't do an obvious male bait. Hey, um, not for nothing. You know who might be great bait. You think we could distract her long enough to get brick out to the stone. We'd have to find him. Yeah. Which we were interrupted and I guess she would want him. Yeah, we could try to steal brick.
00:30:28
Speaker
Where would, I mean, the forest is big though, right? Like, it's not like, I mean, Rick, you can detect when she's near, but it's not like a compass, like. No. We can't just wander. A real lazy GM would have to give you a power that would allow you to just find the MacGuffin at any given point. Here's something I'll say that you guys would know. Brick, there's no reason you guys can think of that brick would have been at that part.
00:30:56
Speaker
of the woods unless that's where he was being lured to ultimately. His house is nowhere near Stephanie's. If he was just going to go into the woods, it would have been way farther downstream. Well, and even if she's not, he's going to leave a trail. Yeah, that's fair. Mm hmm. Mm hmm. So we can track him.
00:31:17
Speaker
If we can find Brick, we can steal Brick. And Stephanie. And Stephanie can steal Brick back. Knows what he smells like. Really kick her off. So she can follow the trail. Yes, exactly, Stephanie. Thanks. What was that, Stephanie? Stephanie knows what he smells like so she can follow the trail.
00:31:34
Speaker
OK, I'm glad I asked. It's about to say Axe body spray, but we're. Yeah, we're too early. I don't know what the equivalent was. I don't know. This would have been like our car. Thank you. Thank you. Or Stetson. I was going to say you could be the one to rescue Brick because she can't catch you to any of us try to go in there and she'll probably be really mad if you take him from her. Mm hmm. Definitely would be.
00:32:03
Speaker
And then I run to the circle with brick. Yeah. Are we close to the stone? We don't know. We're not where brick is yet. But is my house close to the stone?
00:32:16
Speaker
I mean, it's upriver. It's not a big town. It's just what I said was you can't see you can't see the stone from your window was all I told you. OK, but just and that was just to make it clear that you were by the river, you were by the tree line, but not so close to the stone that you could just look over and see if something weird was happening when the whole road was doing it. Does that make sense? Yes, yes, yes.
00:32:37
Speaker
OK, so I like this plan. So I think we combine that plan with Rick's plan of we get iron to do a semicircle or like three, four circle around the stone where they're doing the enchantment circle.

Confronting the Huldra: The Rescue Plan

00:32:53
Speaker
I will be hidden near where the opening is. Stephanie, you and Brick run through the opening and just run straight past the rune stone. As soon as she gets in the circle, I'll jump out and close the circle and then she can't get out.
00:33:06
Speaker
Oh, thank God I run cross country. Rick, Rick immediately starts to look around. This is an old cabin, right? Does the old cabin have an old kitchen? The old cabin has an old kitchen. Is it full of cast iron pots and pans? Man, it probably is. Rick is ransacking the historical artifacts. It's very much staged.
00:33:28
Speaker
Yeah, they're probably not even historical. It's probably like whatever lodge cast irons in the 80s, whoever made that. Like it's probably but it is definitely a staged. It's like a.
00:33:39
Speaker
You probably won't know Harren Homestead, would ya? There's gotta be something equivalent where you grew up. I know what you're talking about though, yeah. It's where you take elementary school field trips to see how kids did it back then. So yes, I think that it is staged. I think there's definitely cast iron cookware. There's gonna be all kinds of iron things around here if this is like an old homestead. Yeah, I think the reason I didn't push back on iron change is because I got a feeling if you were to go out into the
00:34:04
Speaker
uh, outside, there might even just be some hanging on the wall just for atmosphere for flare. Yeah. There's probably horseshoes, horse rings, things like that. Okay. So, so yeah, I think you have no problem with iron. Uh, Franklin says, okay, I'm a little fuzzy on the plan. One of you is going to find brick.
00:34:26
Speaker
Then we're going to, I guess, make noise with irons. And then I and then the hope is that we will go to the circle first and we will put the iron in a circle. Like basically line the circle that they're drawing right now with iron, except for one pathway leading into the circle.
00:34:53
Speaker
I will have iron chains and I'll be hidden in some underbrush nearby so that when we go with Stephanie, Stephanie's not going by herself, we'll go, follow Brick's trail, Stephanie will go in and get Brick. And is Stephanie being there gonna snap Brick out of it or is he gonna resist? Like we don't know. We don't know. What this. Yeah, we don't know. I'll say this.
00:35:23
Speaker
He's not gonna look at Stephanie and then be like, oh, of course, and the light returns to his eyes. I've looked you all along. So I gotta seduce him too? Oh God, no, no, no, no, no, because I have headphones in and I'll hear it. Hopefully, he'll just be kind of a shell and Stephanie will be able to lead him. And maybe Rick can help with that.
00:35:51
Speaker
Duncan, you could hit him real hard with something. That's true. I could do that. Anyway.
00:36:00
Speaker
He's not even a real jock. He plays water polo. Leave him alone. That's so much worse. Have you seen a water polo player? Doesn't that just mean he's a rich jock? He's got skinny legs. No, the opposite. He has unbelievable stamina. I played baseball through high school because it's the one I could do because I stood there most of the time.
00:36:24
Speaker
Water polo, they're constantly treading water. What are you talking about? Anyway, the hope is that once Stephanie has brick and is running away, she will give chase.
00:36:42
Speaker
Stephanie and Britt can run through the enchantment circle leading her through it. And once she's in the circle, we'll close the circle trapping her in there. You do your 10 second incantation and we're good. Um, okay. This is a Franklin gets what you're saying. So I'm just going to say the one piece of this that we don't have yet is
00:37:09
Speaker
We need a contingency because we're making a big assumption that just by pulling her thrall to the circle, she's going to want to come and get him back. We may have to flush her out and make her see he's in the circle. We don't know that she's got a beat on him all the time.
00:37:22
Speaker
I figured she'd be chasing me. So if she's if she's there and I'm going to roll to find out if she's there when you get brick, she'll probably come after you. But if she's not and she's elsewhere in the forest, I guarantee you there are axes here in this staged homestead. Like we start chopping the trees. Yep. Heck yeah. She is the Lorax who speaks for the trees.
00:37:49
Speaker
I don't know if that reference is timely or not at the in the 80s. I don't know when that one. I mean, it's probably it predates the 80s for sure. Surely. Right. What's Alex doing during all of this? Because that's the missing piece from like a meta standpoint that I got sugar with my slingshot and make her mad. I don't know if we want to make her mad.
00:38:13
Speaker
Well, I think we're going to make her mad. It seems like she'll be sufficiently mad to make her mad enough. Alex. Why? Alex, you want to help me see the incantation? What's that? It's the spell. I'll teach you a spell. That'd be cool. I can say a spell. Yeah. Okay. I can say the spell.
00:38:41
Speaker
Now mom also has the iron at home if we need some more iron. I think there's a lot here buddy, but that's a good thought. I appreciate it. Okay. So Franklin is going to be with you guys. No, Franklin's going to be at the footbridge while you guys start chopping down trees. And with his true sight, we'll let you know when the whole dress shows up. Okay. So whether she comes in visibly or whether she comes out with a vengeance,
00:39:10
Speaker
Franklin's gonna be able to see her and let you guys know at least that much. Awesome. Stephanie, I think you hold on to that fire poker when you go get brick just in case. Yeah. You need to kill brick. All right, so we gather up a bunch of cast iron, just junk. And we're going to scatter it and it's sort of two thirds ring.
00:39:39
Speaker
Yeah, around the rune stone and a big ring. And then we're going to go get brick, right? That's the plan. That is the plan. Cool. And we'll leave axes near the circle as well in case we need to make it so.

Conclusion and Teasers for Next Episode

00:39:56
Speaker
Okay, so let's say you guys take some time, you gather up a bunch, all of the cast iron stuff that you can carry. I think you probably throw it in the back of the Bronco. Stephanie's car, yeah. Because it's cast iron, and they're for quite heavy. We're going to ruin that car's suspension.
00:40:17
Speaker
And so I think you guys get it there. I think, you know what, as you're throwing like the last, I don't, I don't know shoe horn into the back, into the back of this vehicle. I think that that's when Clarence and Clarence, Leslie, Tina and granddad show back up and guys goes, what you doing? They don't like iron. We got a plan.
00:40:48
Speaker
OK, could you please share it with us? We're going to steal brick back. And then we're going to trapper at the Runestone. So Franklin. And Alex and Alex. Can you Alex.
00:41:12
Speaker
We're going to say it at the same time with no rehearsal. That's right. And I'm going to help. OK, you're going to. You're getting a break like. Yeah. If you fail, this plan falls apart.
00:41:24
Speaker
I think Clarence says, uh, that's supposed to be like a ego boost, not a, like lots of pressure. This is a lot of pressure. I think, I think Clarence says, Oh, yes, it's quite good. I was going to suggest we just chop down a bunch of trees until she shows up. That's a backup plan. Sorry. Oh, good.
00:41:47
Speaker
All right. Brick is there to make sure she gets into the circle as bait. No, that's wonderful. Yes. Like a worm. Like bricks of worm. Yes. Sure. Yes. Sure. So I think Clarence
00:42:15
Speaker
is going to go and just kind of be at the circle to provide backup for Franklin if he needs to. You guys are going to... Granddad Leslie, Tina, not going to the... You guys are going to find Brick on your own. That was your idea. They like it. Go for it. I think they're all going to be at the circle to do what needs doing, provided you're able to flush her out.
00:42:40
Speaker
not because they are concerned for themselves because they have full trust in you guys and particularly in Franklin. And then of course granddad within Rick.
00:42:54
Speaker
I want to remind you from this point on that if something happens that you think the easiest way to take care of it would be through something magical, you can burn your opportunity to say what Franklin's ability is. Because of that, I think he is going to go on every step of this adventure with you, just so he's there if you need him.
00:43:13
Speaker
But what he will do is he will diverge as Stephanie takes brick to the circle and you two fellas go back to start chopping down trees. He'll go with the boys. And it really, it can be anything. So Randy's already used his with TruSight and that's great. And then there's rest of them. So I think we go to the circle.
00:43:41
Speaker
Clarence has done a wonderful job of making the actual runic circle around the stone that will trap her metaphysically and transport her underground to be trapped forever with the Tusser and with the... Hold your... I'm gonna say it wrong again.
00:44:03
Speaker
with the Huldrykari. Huldrykari, yeah. Huldrykarl, I said it wrong the first time, Huldrykarl, that's an L. Whatever. But he's done a very good job to make it look unassuming, and in support of his efforts to hide it as well as possible, you guys are gonna spread it into trash around on the ground. Yeah.
00:44:28
Speaker
Let's check this old nails and that kind of thing. Yeah, let's set this stage. It's going to be in a nightmare. Whoever keeps the grounds around here. Uh-huh. I just want to point out, Stephanie is in a true 80s fashion and the full cheerleader get up with the Letterman jacket and the ponytail ready to go into the woods and maybe die.
00:44:50
Speaker
Okay. We all assume our 80s trophy garb. But she made you go home so she could change. Leather jacket. Patro cloak. Just the greasiest hair. You said set up the scene, Jeff. We're doing it. I'm listening. I'm not walking away. Alex has like a backwards baseball cap, horizontal striped shirt.
00:45:17
Speaker
Yep, that's it. OK. Gene shorts and a sandwich and a sandwich sandwich. I think the circle is set now. It is strewn with. Iron, I think that the last bit of it.
00:45:33
Speaker
is the actual, you did find a length of chain about eight feet long and it's open so that as soon as she's in the circle, somebody can whip that into that chain around and close it off. And we are heavily operating under the assumption that she's bound by iron and not just repulsed by iron, but the circle is gonna get. If Claire's drew it right and Franklin's right about his magic, the circle's gonna at least hold her once the incantation is set.
00:46:08
Speaker
Let's go. OK, I think that we are ready. We stop. We change clothes. Everybody looks how they want to look. Which I guess makes sense. Stephanie, you guys go to Stephanie's house because that's where the trail starts anyway. Yeah.
00:46:26
Speaker
I think this is one of those space. I think I think Stephanie's dad at some point probably built a bridge over that portion of the river. It's pretty narrow there, too. And, you know, I think he's a hunter. Hmm. Almost certainly he's a hunter. He had a gun. I said that earlier. It's Canaan. It did. He had a gun. He definitely he definitely had some things to say about your bow and arrow, but didn't. So I think you guys go. You guys go to Stephanie's house. Franklin.
00:47:01
Speaker
Think... Alex? Okay, here's what it is. When you guys get there, while Stephanie's changing, Duncan immediately walks into the kitchen, doesn't ask anybody, doesn't do anything, and makes Alex a sandwich and sets him on the couch and says, we'll let you know when we have happily- Hey, that doesn't mean Alex is gonna stay there.
00:47:20
Speaker
OK. No, no. OK. No, you got me there. Rick has made sure that everyone. I mean, I know that Stephanie already has one, but Rick has made sure that he and Duncan also have some some sort of iron tool on our person. There was a shovel and a broom at the fireplace left. I think Rick went around and drug out of the the farm shed a couple of
00:47:50
Speaker
Bill Hooks, which is like a tree pruning knife. And that's what he has armed him and Duncan with. What's the tool called? I don't know what it's called. That may be the same thing that I think of, but it's got a
00:48:09
Speaker
a handle that goes across this wise in your palm and you grip it and it's got the the hay bailing hook. Yeah, a hay hook. It's a hay hook. Yeah. Yeah. I think one of you just got two hay hooks like a little Wolverine. Is that I know what you did last summer? Is that the weapon he had? I think you're right. Yeah, I think so. I'm trying to think of.
00:48:31
Speaker
So there was also in this frontier cabin being fully staged. There was also like just showing like what it was like for children on the frontier and stuff. There was like a toy thing set up with like little mini like war figures like little soldiers. Duncan snatched those up and like when he's like giving Alex the sandwich and all that he says now
00:48:56
Speaker
When it's time to go to the circle and for you to say the incantation with Franklin, if she gets anywhere near you and like he like. Ask Alex, can I see your slingshot? Yeah, yes. OK, so instead of what you normally put in there, these things, if you load these up in here and you hit her with them, they should she should take off. She'll hate being hit with these. OK, yeah, that's cool. Awesome.
00:49:28
Speaker
Okay. The weapons have been chosen. Mm hmm. The costumes have been chosen. The sandwich has been made. Franklin. Well, Franklin has some sort of 80s pop song plays in the background. Sure, sure. And every once in a while you see Franklin, he's just seeing it extending his fingers. You know, ready to make whatever movements he might make.
00:49:52
Speaker
Clearing his throat. Just looks like voguing. But Madonna was a magician. None of us knew. And so I think, I think this is going to be a bit of a shorter episode now, but I think here's what happens. I think all of this stuff happens and then we just have a shot on Stephanie's front door. First out is Stephanie. Just looking fly as hell. But slow motion. Slow motion and absolutely determined.
00:50:22
Speaker
with her with her fireplace poker. Yes. Rick's out next. Doug comes out next. Franklin comes out the door, trips a little bit over the threshold. I was just going to say that. And he looks so pumped because he has never gotten to do this in a situation where it wasn't like
00:50:50
Speaker
Can you move, you know, can you fly that mug into your hand? Clarence being like, all right, now I'm into this piece of paper. You know, stuff like that. So he's jazzed. And then it stays on the door for about 20 more seconds. You guys get about 20 feet down the driveway. And then Alex pops in the doorway and he says, hey, hold up, wait for me. I don't want to stay here. I'm coming.
00:51:18
Speaker

But yeah, it's a great show covering the Genesis RPG as well as all of the awesome products that come up on the foundry and interviews with the creators. And so you get some insight on how to create stuff for your table as well as how to play the game. So yeah, back to HQ. Jeff, take it away.
00:52:51
Speaker
All right, guys, again, thank you so much for listening. We got one more episode of this. It sounds like we did say we were going to do if there's interest, if we get questions, we're going to do an Eberron reviewed for Kids on Bikes that either Eric or Phillip will host because I mean, I like me, but not that much. No one likes me that much. The team doesn't get to host his own reviewed. Right. So if you do have questions, start getting them in. Obviously, you may have the most questions after the next episode.
