This week on Eberron Renewed the gang continues their journey away from the drow, but first they must make through some elementals that do not seem happy to meet them.  Come join us as the heroes take stock of what’s happened over the past couple days, what may have caused it, and what they can do to prevent something similar from happening.

Introduction to Eberron Renewed

00:00:09
Speaker
D20 radio, your game is roll.
00:00:27
Speaker
Welcome to Eberron Renewed, a D&D 5th edition actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I am your dungeon master, Eric. And I'm Philip. I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. And welcome to another episode of Eberron Renewed.

Recap: Previous Adventure

00:00:39
Speaker
Gentlemen, what happened last time? Beric lives. Da-da-da-da. Yet, Drakir is still here. Well, you're the DM.
00:00:49
Speaker
had options. Ultimately we made a decision to run away from the drow to seek our adventures elsewhere and we brought along our new friend.
00:01:03
Speaker
Booyah. I don't know if you were. So long for the ride. I don't know if you were saying his name or shouting enjoy like Stu Scott, but either

Encounter: Ring of Storms

00:01:15
Speaker
way. OK, well, where we last left off, you all were still in the ring of storms being confronted by a water elemental and an air elemental. So it would behoove you to roll initiative. Nine.
00:01:33
Speaker
24 for Drakir, 22 for Beric. All right, Dex, you are up first, unsurprisingly. Yeah, okay, so there are two elementals, correct? Yes. Air and water? Yes. And I don't know what either one of them do, but I don't think I wanna rush up on them and try to attack them with my hands or mouth. So I'm just gonna, I am going to,
00:02:00
Speaker
Just attack with my ribbon weave at the water one. Okay. And that is a 13.

Battle Strategies and Elemental Combat

00:02:10
Speaker
13? That is a miss. Okay. Okay. It is now Drakir's turn. Drakir uses a bonus action to do his slayer's eye on the air element.
00:02:25
Speaker
Okay. Which would allow him to know any vulnerabilities or immunities or resistances, that stuff. It is resistant to lightning, thunder, bludgeoning, piercing, slashing from non-magical weapons. And it is immune to poison. Um, and it is also immune to exhaustion, grappled, paralyzed, petrified, poisoned, prone, restrained, and unconscious.
00:02:54
Speaker
And it's vulnerable. Nope, no effects from any kinds of attacks. Nope. Can't burn it, evaporate it, freeze it. Nope. Okay.
00:03:05
Speaker
What do they look like? What am I looking at? I don't know this. The air elemental looks like a tornado, almost like a cloud in a vortex, but you can see a face. It has a vaguely humanoid shape, arms, face, not really a leg. And then the water just looks like a floating pool of water not bound by gravity, but it also has a face and arms. OK, marry a leg among the group.
00:03:33
Speaker
In that case, with my actual action, I shall attack it with my Shadow Blade.

Hexblade's Curse and Elemental Attacks

00:03:40
Speaker
Okay. That will be 20. Hit! That is 14 damage from my Shadow Blade. Okay. Would Drakir take a moment to explain what he learned to his fighting partners? I mean, I totally get it, if not, it's Drakir. Probably not, like he's just like...
00:04:02
Speaker
He's just done the first really friendly thing he's done since we met him in getting you out of here. And I don't think team player is yet in the adjutant. He's just Goodwill exhausted right now. Okay. And now it is Barak's turn. Excellent. That's precisely how... Barak seeing Drakir go after the air elemental, go after the water elemental. I'll place my Hexblade's curse on it. Okay. That has a bonus action.
00:04:32
Speaker
And then this is something fun. I will cast a new cantrip that I have. I will cast Ray of Frost, a frigid blue-white light streaks towards the creature. And missus almost certainly. Maybe 14. That's a hit. OK. I have a larger spell attack bonus than I remember. In addition to the damage, it's about to take its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of my next turn.
00:05:04
Speaker
It's gonna take 13 cold damage. 13 cold damage? Yep. Alright.

Elemental Counterattacks

00:05:10
Speaker
And it freezes! How close to it did you get?
00:05:13
Speaker
Oh, I only had to be within 60 feet. So probably I didn't. I would assume they were close. They were that close or closer when we began. So I probably didn't move. Actually, a property of the water elemental overrides the ray of frost movement condition and its speed is actually reduced by 20 feet because of the cold. Sweet. And you see part of it freeze as it tries to free itself. Dig that.
00:05:37
Speaker
Okay, so the water elemental is next up. So you see it move through the air dragging this block of ice, but it's not able to go very far, but it gets close enough to where you see the water. This it becomes much more amorphous and then it rushes at you, Beric, and the water surrounds you. I need you to make a strength saving throw. 19.
00:06:07
Speaker
Okay, so you are able to brace yourself and break the water away, and it goes back and reforms itself. The air elemental moves up and occupies. You attacked which one? Water. Water? Drakir attacked the air. The air elemental moves up and begins swirling around Drakir. And I need Drakir to make a strength saving throw. I'm gonna say this just to irritate air. I'm gonna pay for this later.
00:06:35
Speaker
I rolled a natural 20, so the total is going to be 23. 23, okay. So, yeah, Drakir is able to stay planted in spite of the rushing winds around him. Booyah. Well, considering his accent, you would think that Russian winds wouldn't really trouble him.
00:06:50
Speaker
Waka Waka! Ah, you're so proud of yourself!

Booyah's Impact in Battle

00:06:58
Speaker
I mean, it was good. Zoya is going to draw on the energy of the planes and fire his hand crossbow at the water elemental. Okay. Sixteen. Hit! He will take an extra
00:07:20
Speaker
1d6 that was a bonus action to do that by the way in case anybody was wondering okay go for a boobie huh he takes 12 damage two points of that was force if it matters okay and second attack he's going to fire again 16 again that is 9 damage okay and although the attack ignores all resistances too by the way
00:07:50
Speaker
Ooh. Planar Warrior. Okay, it is now back around to Dex. Okay, Ribbon Weave. Water Elemental again. Again? Again. Yeah, that one hits. That's a 25. 25? Yeah. Okay, that's a hit. Yeah. Yeah. And it's gonna be, can I borrow a d6?

Teamwork and Elemental Defeat

00:08:20
Speaker
Four, nine... Eighteen points of damage. And it is a magical weapon, so... I know. Dex doesn't know that, but Jeff does. Okay, trick here.
00:08:35
Speaker
Okay, I'm going to place my Hunter's Mark on the... on the air elemental. And then I will attack with my Shadow Blades. And I should have attacked twice last time, but I only attacked once because I just wasn't thinking about it.
00:08:54
Speaker
I'm gonna miss I think with one because I don't think 13 will hit him. On the air? Air. That actually hits the air elemental. Oh, okay. Oh, nope, sorry. It does not. Okay. So it hits the water element. Everyone got that? No, it actually does not. But the other is a 23. So I guess that will be fine. Okay, so
00:09:18
Speaker
That will be 18 damage. And I guess I'll stay put. I'll just stay stay with him. There's not much to move to do. This is a weird experience. I think elementals is probably. Something they deal with in the underdark, but not frequently enough to be not air elementals, probably. Yeah, OK, Eric. I had a brought both character sheets. So the water elemental is is on me at this point.
00:09:44
Speaker
Yes, OK, let's see what see what fire does. A cast has a bonus action searing smite, and I will attack the water elemental first attack. That be gosh, twenty five.
00:10:07
Speaker
It all right. I'm assuming I probably need to distinguish elemental types of damage with this so the slashing damage from the sword is going to be Will be 15. Okay in addition it takes 13 fire damage and is possible set on fire. Oh
00:10:30
Speaker
It it doesn't have an immunity be saying on fire, but I'm going to make a call here and say that's ridiculous. I mean, being doused with water puts fire out, puts you out of when you're on fire. So that seems reasonable. See some steam. Yes. Yeah. So that's the first attack and I will make my other attack, which will not be fancy flaming. I have my first on them. I crit on a 19 or 20 and I build an 18.
00:11:01
Speaker
That will be another 15 points of slashing damage. As it rushes in on Beric.
00:11:09
Speaker
He just clasps the blade, which he hasn't decided on a new name for, in both hands and flames, just silver fire just runs down the blade and he just swings straight into the water elemental as it surges towards him, just splitting it. I'm using that to explain the miss. Nice.
00:11:33
Speaker
Okay, well, the water elemental is going to real and to make a quick roll to see if it can have a recharge. Okay, it is going to try and overwhelm you again with its form. So strength saving throw. No, a four. Okay.
00:11:56
Speaker
So the water rushes over you and you take 16 bludgeoning damage. Good. And you are now grappled. What you all see being on the outsiders is this water elemental crashes down over Barrick and then reforms and you see Barrick inside the water elemental trying to swim out and drowning. So you are restrained and cannot breathe. Okay.

Battle Aftermath and Escape

00:12:22
Speaker
unless Barrick can breathe water. I cannot. There is actually an Eldritch Invocation I could have taken. Okay. But I thought, why, what's the point of that? Swing speed, breathe water breathing. That's just, you know, that's so circumstantial. When will we ever, and just so you know, um, either of you can make a strength saving throw to try and pull Barrick out of the water elemental if you get within five feet of it. So as an action, yes. I would say a saving throw.
00:12:52
Speaker
A strength check. Just check. Okay, it is now the arrow elementals turn. It is going to... See if it gets its recharge. How long are we talking? It'll take a bit to drown. Okay. Drakir, strength saving throw. Ten. Okay, so Drakir takes...
00:13:22
Speaker
17 bludgeoning damage. And you are flung 20 feet away from the fight and are prone on the ground. How much bludgeoning damage? 17? Yes. Oh, and you were thrown 20 feet, which means taking additional three damage.
00:13:46
Speaker
Okay, it is now Booyah. So Beric is drowning. Drakir just got flung to the wind. Yes. The storm is still raging around you. Oh, I'm sorry. Go and take your turn, Booyah, and then we'll resolve something because you're still in the ring of storms. Oh god.
00:14:05
Speaker
Once again, Booyah remains at a distance, aims planar justice at the water elemental. Okay. And uses his class ability again to ignore resistances, which it's a magic weapon. Yeah. It's that extra damage. That's going to be 18. Yeah. That modifiers. You're shooting the water elemental. Yes. Okay.
00:14:32
Speaker
Not trying to hit my friend inside the water. You don't know this guy from Adam. Sure. Which guy? Ooh, our barrack. Still wasn't trying to shoot him. It's going to be 12 damage and 1 force damage. Second attack. 18 again. That's going to be 8 damage.
00:15:02
Speaker
Okay, as your last bolt from planar justice fires, it sinks into the water of the water elemental and floats just in front of Barrack's face as he's thrashing. And it goes slower because it's in the water. And as it exits the backside of the water elemental, the wind and just the storm raging around you rips the water elemental into the rain as Barrack falls onto the ground gasping for air.
00:15:31
Speaker
And if you were to look over at Booyah, he's got thumbs up. Now, survival check. Twenty! Twenty-six. Twenty-five for Drakir. Well, for Barret. Okay. So, Barret, give me a dexterity saving throw.
00:16:02
Speaker
15. 15? Okay, so you managed to, you're gasping for air and then you see your hair, the hair on your arm starts to stand up on it and you roll out of the way of the lightning bolt as it crashes to the ground. Dex, we got the air elemental left. Okay, having been mildly buoy by the fact that he's seeing damage done to these things, he decides just to go full force and he's gonna double claw.
00:16:28
Speaker
Mmm, so the first claw misses second claw, huh? It's 11 right? Yeah second claw 13 misses you thrash at the wind life literally Yeah Okay, so drake here you are prone on the ground 20 feet away from the air elemental I will bounce the winds been knocked out of you and
00:16:57
Speaker
Shut up. I'm glad that the listeners enjoy my story. The players do not. There's no proof the listeners do. Yeah. I'll bounce up and throw my shadow blades at it so I can do that from 20 feet away. Okay. All right. First one is 23. Hit. Second one is 20. Hit.
00:17:27
Speaker
Then I form a second another shadow blade and throw it. I don't get on 19. It's a trickier. Twenty six. It's sweet. OK, so, yeah, first one is 12 damage. OK. Second one is 15 damage. Third one is 18 damage. Bye. Right.
00:17:56
Speaker
No. 40. 45. 45 points. Good stuff. Dracarys good at stuff. Yeah, no kidding. Just not making friends. Okay, Barrick, you're on the ground. Wet. Yes. Well, I see that the air elemental is still there. I will launch a ray of frost at it. Okay. Straight.
00:18:25
Speaker
25. Hit. Uh, 11 cold damage. And then I will stand up. All right. The air elemental is going to use its fists of wind to slam at Dex. 18. That's a hit. That's, that's, yeah.
00:18:58
Speaker
15 damage on the first hit. Okay. 18. On the second hit? Mm-hmm. All right, I'm going to... Hang on. My Uncanny Dodge reaction will only be able to have one of these, right? Let's not have the total at the end. All right, I don't see... I'm gonna... I'm gonna use it on the 18 one there. Just use my reaction.
00:19:19
Speaker
To it. There's nothing It's not like I dodged out of the way. You're dodging the second one. Yeah, did you just oh, I'm sorry I was eating damage. No. No. Yeah, that's a hit as well. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna dodge the first one there the 15 I just Only take all that. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Now it's it's half and round up on yes. Okay. All right And the second attack lanes for 13 damage All right. Good call. Yeah
00:19:49
Speaker
Okay. I mean, that's still, I got hit real good. Booyah. Planar justice. Planar justice. Can you keep a track of how many crossbow bolts you got? 100. I got some in the bag. Bag's just chock full of quivers. 16. Hit. It's gonna be eight and four.
00:20:19
Speaker
force second attack crit yup okay so we're doing something different with crits now because that critical hit table was bonkers yeah um so we are going to maybe try out a couple different things what i want to try out this session is borrowing a mechanic from fantasy flight games star wars rpg
00:20:42
Speaker
They have things called triumphs, where, and despairs. So critical hit will be a triumph, critical fumble will be a despair. In a critical, or on a critical hit, you get to narratively introduce an element that changes the situation. Just come up with something, anything that you like, and in a despair, I will take the lead on that one. So. And this is wind.
00:21:10
Speaker
Yeah, it doesn't have to directly affect that thing. It can be just something in the environment. Something, yeah. I will say on if there's like a dream thing within reason that you'd like to just be able to pull out of the bag on a whim, you can use a critical hit for that.

Journey to the Giant Ruins

00:21:28
Speaker
A tree is ripped from the forest and flies into the, flies into the elemental's face.
00:21:34
Speaker
What is that? Okay. So as you hit with your crossbow bolt, the Air Elemental kind of rages almost and screams in an incomprehensible language at you all as the storm begins to rage. And you all see from behind the Air Elemental an old dead tree that's just been beaten by the storm for who knows how many years finally give way.
00:21:59
Speaker
and just come flying as the air elemental dissipates, and the tree goes flying between all of you out of the Ring of Storms. I mean, we didn't see you do that. We just saw a tree. Thank you, Ring of Storms. Okay. Survival check. Twenty-four survival. Nineteen Dracure. Twenty Barric.
00:22:28
Speaker
Quick question. Yes. Critical fumble on a check. Is that a thing? Rules as written. That's not a thing. So you just fail. But if we're having fun. Yeah, so I just failed. Another air elemental comes out. No. OK, give me a dexterity saving throw. This one I am good at.
00:22:54
Speaker
Yeah, that's a twenty four. You dive out of the way. And it's probably time to beat feet out of the ring of storms. Yes, sure. You all were right on the edge, so you were able to make it out. So, yeah, you all are outside of the ring of storms. You're here successfully. Led you out like he does. What now, everybody? You're still in the aberration infested part of the Zendrick jungle. Oh, yeah. Yeah, sure.
00:23:25
Speaker
Um, Hey, uh, hey, uh, trick here. Remember that time that you told us exactly what was around us, uh, before we fought that tentacle guy? Yes. You want to throw another one of those our way? It's cantrip, right? I'm not.
00:23:42
Speaker
Oh, no, it's just it's just an innate ability of Rangers. OK, if well, if he had if he had ever if he has operations as his favorite enemy, he can do the same thing, actually. But yes, I will do that. Randy gives a thumbs up as he eats his milkshake. Yeah, I will take a minute and activate my primeval awareness. So I now know within five miles.
00:24:11
Speaker
I can sense aberrations or elementals actually. Uh, and I know which, um, I know how many groups or the closest one is that kind of thing.
00:24:26
Speaker
I mean, like I said, this is an aberration infested part of the jungle. So you sense quite a bit enough to where you could reasonably avoid them if you wanted to stick with them and guide them further. Or you could just say, walk on this path, path of least resistance.
00:24:45
Speaker
Where will you go? Uh, guys, where are we going to go? Back to storm reach or do you want to try to reach these giant ruins? I mean, we're out here. I, uh, you know what? I turned to Booyah and I say, uh, you know, where, where we were, um,
00:25:08
Speaker
No, that's not true. Nevermind. I take it back. That was hop goblins. The giants weren't involved in, in Ms. Marsh. It was hop goblins and goblins. So nevermind. Um, so I say, yeah, I mean, we're, we're, we're already out here. We, I can't think of a good reason to go back to storm reach. I guess Sam probably had the map, huh? Yeah. Oh yeah. There's that. Um, does Drake here know where the giant ruins we were trying to reach are?
00:25:37
Speaker
or some giant ruins that aren't the ones that we were in the other night. I wonder if there's a check trick here could make to see if he knows. Maybe. Maybe. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. No. Yeah. What's the check? Survival or history. Really miss knowledge geography. That was a helpful skill in situations like this. Let's do survival navigation. So.
00:26:11
Speaker
It sort of hovered on this one for a second and then rolled over to the 19. That will be a 20. 25, 25. OK, yeah, you have a pretty good idea of some giant ruins to the south because you're you're pretty well in the near the center of the Zendric, the jungle part of Zendric.
00:26:34
Speaker
So, yeah, you know, some fair, probably the furthest you've ever traveled out was to a particular set of giant ruins. The main reason that you know about these, they're probably the largest giant regions you've ever come across, but they are occupied by the fire drow or by the angry kill drow.
00:27:02
Speaker
not by drone and go to giants, giants. Oh, angry kill giants or that friendly giant that we met in Stormreach or just outside of Stormreach. What do I know about the giants that occupy it? You didn't get the sense to get real close. Their type of giants, their hair glowed in the night. OK.
00:27:26
Speaker
I know of, well, I do not know if they are the giant ruins you were seeking, but I know of giant ruins to the south. They are not empty. There are fire giants.
00:27:45
Speaker
I mean, that doesn't mean much to Dex, but I'm sure it probably means something to somebody else. I mean, they're like. They're like the giant 10 or 12 foot tall giants with fire hair. Yeah, like the giant that you met, but on fire. OK. OK. Like I kind of charcoal colored skin. So. So it's not they're not named after their temper. I mean, I got chicken in the egg kind of situation there.
00:28:15
Speaker
Traditionally in D&D, fire giants are the more militant of the giants. I honestly haven't read enough about giants to recall whether that holds in Eberron. Or in this Eberron in any case. Why do you want to go to ruins?
00:28:33
Speaker
All right. Quick rundown. And I give him a quick rundown. So, uh, dragon shards, silvery light, silver flame dragons. Okay. Yeah. A bar planer stuff. My stick needs rocks.
00:28:53
Speaker
Okay, uh, well then I leave it to Beric and Booyah to decide if we want to. Well, it fills up. I mean, I, I.
00:29:08
Speaker
I assume if there are giants in this inhabitant in these ruins, they're not going to let us just go in and look around and take things that we decide we need. So while I'm not against seeing if we can make a diplomatic, you know, agreement with them, I would be OK if you guys want to go back to Storm Ranger. Booyah, hi this. Booyah, hi the shadows. How far? Four hour journey. It is a short walk.
00:29:38
Speaker
Huh, huh. Well, we gotta make shadow. Uh, what do you think, Burke? That's why we came out here. All right. Uh, sounds like we're heading south. Um, I understand you have responsibilities to your people, but you're welcome to travel with us.
00:30:06
Speaker
Drake here gives an expression that is, uh, well, Rufal, I guess I have time. You have time. I have time. Great. I mean, uh, great. Okay. I think Phillip made an expression that is Rufal cause he just decided to continue playing two characters for a little while longer. No. Drake here it is. Okay.
00:30:35
Speaker
OK, so you all begin the he's on. So as we as we go, you notice something about Beric. That as he's now started to actually make access, take access of the magic that he's obtained and has sort of taken ownership of

Beric's Transformation Reflection

00:30:58
Speaker
the pact in a way that he did not before, his appearance has altered a little bit.
00:31:04
Speaker
rather than sort of a
00:31:08
Speaker
almost sickly kind of ashen tone to his skin has darkened to genuine gray and very faint silver lines, not entirely unlike the tribal tattoos that a lot of the drow had crisscrossed his skin. His hair, which was just black, has is now sort of streaked with
00:31:37
Speaker
Uh, with gray and silver. All right. I mean, okay. So Dex would have to, um, bear. Do you, do you want to, uh, elucidate for me while you are shape shifting? You're not shape shifting while you're changing. Eric summons the sword and looks at his reflection in it. Yeah. You can just look down at your hands and see that. Huh.
00:32:05
Speaker
Well, I I don't know, but. Less than a day ago, I was dead and this morning I'm not so. A fair point. Well made, I. I'm trying not to be surprised by anything at the moment. You're so much more chill now that you've been dead resigned. That's a good point. All right, so this is the point since we're walking, it's a four hour walk. This is the point where Dex would hate fellas.
00:32:35
Speaker
I've been doing a lot of thinking. I don't wanna put you guys in the position that I put you in, in the jungle that night.
00:32:47
Speaker
I, I take full responsibility. All right. Booyah wasn't there. Sorry. Uh, Oh, uh, yeah, he probably ought to know. Here's the thing. So yeah, now that he's pretty firmly tied himself to us. Yeah. I mean, I assume it's still better than the alternative, but you are currently walking through the jungle with a, uh, a man who cannot sometimes control turning into, uh, let's say a bear. He's a werebear.
00:33:16
Speaker
Yeah, that's what it is. I mean, you're just going to rip the bandaid off. But no, I bet no good. Get cure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I'm getting to that.
00:33:28
Speaker
Fellas, for all the good that I feel like it has done, you have this power. I can't go through that again. I can't put you through that again. I can't be a liability every time the moon comes out. So we'll work towards a cure. I'm willing to do that. Just qualifying, one of the 13 moons of Eberron come out. Balls, really?
00:33:55
Speaker
How did any given time five moons are usually in the sky? How did we manage to spend a lot of time like the the Eldine reaches like the cover is kind of like the jungle where it's pretty dense. Okay. We're good there, but it's been a lot of time inside. We're an indoor sort of venturing party. So there you go. So, so Eric says it and he says, uh, I don't want to let's, let's, let's just keep moving. Um, but we'll, we'll, we'll seek things. All right.
00:34:24
Speaker
This is where Barak tells me. Well, I actually need to need to know what the requirements for that would be in terms of time and possibly components. One I have nuked. Maybe. Like I might have it in my bag.
00:34:46
Speaker
Oh, I didn't, three times, uh, per long rest, you can reach into the back unless it's a critical hit. Then that's a freebie. Uh, no, that would be one action with instantaneous effect and it's words and gestures. There's no material component for no material component to remove curse. That is very surprising to me as well. Um, as we're walking along, uh,

Curing Dex's Lycanthropy

00:35:13
Speaker
Eric, Eric is quiet for a little bit as we continue to walk in and says, I can actually do that. And Dex says, Oh crap. Um, like, like right now. Yes. Here's a thought. Bear with me. I think, uh, uh, I think, I think you'll find that, uh, this, this makes sense.
00:35:45
Speaker
Let's use it when we have to. Here's what I'm saying. You were on a sled. We fought these things that are in this jungle, uh, and being able to claw them and to bat them was helpful.
00:36:02
Speaker
When, when I lose control again, you drop that, you drop that spell on me. No hard feelings until that point. This is something that can help us just putting that out there. And if you lose control again, and I go to cast a spell on you and you bite me, I mean, here's the thing, then what, and where are we?
00:36:30
Speaker
Uh, if it's, I explained to me how the spell works. I'll cast a spell on you and you won't be like a throw up anymore. I mean, it sounds like I would forget about your lying curse. Also, you're being awfully truthful throughout all these conversations. I'm just saying, you know, I got another curse because I don't know. He says, um, you said you want cure. He have cure.
00:37:00
Speaker
Right. I do. Uh, I need, I recognize the need for the cure. Um, but I mean, I think that there would be time to see that I'm turning. Right. I mean, here's the thing. I, uh, we knew we, when I, when I, I, here's promise. We knew once you tried to bite Farid. What was that? That's what we knew.
00:37:25
Speaker
That's when you knew. I was pretty sure. That's when you weren't able to tell us. Yeah, there's that. And then you were gone. Yeah, there's that. And then I was dead. Yeah, there's that. Boy, when you put it that way. Well, it's not your fault what happened. But that fight went wrong hard when you turned.
00:37:48
Speaker
Right. Right. Right. Yeah. Well, see, the thing with that was that the DM forgot that there would be one less, uh, PC seems to me that you had to roll some dice or something. And also it seems to me like the, we had the opportunity to seek Kirk here a while ago and you'd be like, no, no, no, like, and for peace. Oh, right. There's no downside. And I have seen the error of those ways. And here I am able to remove your curse.
00:38:16
Speaker
Yeah. So let's do it when we need to. Um, I mean, this is, this is, this is what Dex would do. Let's, let's not pretend, uh, like he has a noble gesture and then it's like, Oh, we can go right now. And he's like, Oh, I was thinking like several weeks of adventuring for things. Um,
00:38:40
Speaker
I will maintain my promise that I will not turn into a bear without first telling you that I'm doing it on my own free will. So if you see me start to turn into a bear, cast a spell and it's over. Well, that's not exactly true. I'll have to get to you. I have to lay me hands on you and then I have to cast a spell and you got 30 feet. What if he heard then can cast a spell?
00:39:08
Speaker
What if we're in a fight? What if you attack me? What if you're behind me when you turn and you eat Booyah here? No, eat Booyah. Booyah, Ranger. What if Booyah's whole head would fit in your mouth when you're a bear? What if, what if, what if, fine. That's the entire point, isn't it? This is all what if. I hate this so much.
00:39:34
Speaker
All right. Well, you know, this sucks. Um, I think Dex is, uh, I think, I think Dex is probably steadfast in this. We can do when we need to thing for right now. Uh, you know what, you know what Dex says? Dex says, I, I don't want.
00:40:03
Speaker
to hurt you guys again. If you really don't think that we can take care of it at the 11th hour, I will not be resentful if you handle it sometime while we're walking. Just pull the band-aid off and let me know. I think that's the only thing you do. He's not gonna willingly say, yeah, do it right now because he genuinely sees the benefit of having it until
00:40:33
Speaker
It needs to be gotten rid of. And I think that he's not gonna waver on that. Booyah say that's crazy. One cure, no one cure. Only one cure when about to eat Booyah. Well, yeah, but about to eat. Not post-eat. Pre-eat. I feel like... When you make eye contact with Booyah, Barak sticks out his hand and grabs your arm. Knew it. Knew it. Do I sense that he has two curses on him when I do this?
00:41:03
Speaker
um and do we do we roll to see which one at your touch all curses oh affecting one creature or objects or object and
00:41:14
Speaker
So all of a sudden your impulse to lie is gone. Well, let's be fair for a while. Yeah. So at his touch, his hands just sort of flare with silver light and this really intense heat just rushes through you like courses through your, you can feel it in your veins and probably hurts a little. Yeah. So I scream in pain and then it's gone.
00:41:40
Speaker
And you're not a werebear anymore. I need you to change your character sheet. Yeah, I know. Why do I drop my strength down? What was it before? I genuinely don't. It wasn't terrible. I think it was 13 or 14 even. Because I know I only had 112. Let's do 13. 13 for now and then. You can look at an old character sheet. Yeah, I've still got them saved. Which drops my modifier to a plus one, right? Yeah.
00:42:11
Speaker
No, twelve thirteen is one. Yeah, so one. Yeah. You're using your dexterity anyway. You told. You brought it up. I know. I'm just not willing to play bear roulette. See, I should have just gone with Russian roulette. Russia and bears, they kind of go together. Yeah, real cute. I am I am so not as
00:42:41
Speaker
I'm not as good as I was. I'm not. I'm no fun anymore. I can't take you to parties anymore now. It's just just like the rest of us. I swing my big sword again. I swing my big sword again. Yeah. I didn't skills. You're a rogue. Jeff did not want to do that at all. Even a little bit. Perception checks, everybody.
00:43:09
Speaker
Does it smell bad? Oh, wait, no, never mind. Don't yell at me. Why are you trickier has been sort of standing behind behind decks looking at Booyah with whom he figures he can kind of communicate and has been kind of pointing it at decks and gesturing like he could bash him over the head and knocking out. Question.

Tiger Ambush in the Jungle

00:43:33
Speaker
It was a perception. Yes. Seventeen.
00:43:40
Speaker
Uh, Drake here's got a good one, but Barrick, not so much. Uh, barracks distracted. Drake here has a 22. I believe I was distracted. He's kind of looking around at the trees. Am I still on the ground in pain? You didn't fall on the ground unless narratively you want to say that you didn't. Barrick's not going to feel bad. That's accurate. Yeah.
00:44:05
Speaker
Barrick is not going to feel bad. Yeah. Oh, yeah, is relieved. At maximum, Barrick feels even. You ate that stuff. Yes, but I got tusked. That was going to happen anyway. The one that actually got me didn't happen until after you turn. It's going to happen anyway.
00:44:33
Speaker
After I turned, sorry. Perceptions. 22 for Drakir. Barak's not worth, well, I guess Barak's passive is 15. 16. 17. Okay. Just in the nick of time, Drakir, because you're not embroiled in this conversation, you notice the tiger that's about to leap onto you.
00:44:58
Speaker
And so we're able to ready yourself. The rest of you ever do not see the tigers about to leap onto each of you. Do I get an action? Come on. Drakir does. Okay. Nobody else. I can't be surprised though. Okay. So he didn't get an attack on me, but that's a swashbuckler, not a bear. Well, he might get an attack on you. Just won't be at advantage. Oh, that's right. It all depends on initiative order.
00:45:29
Speaker
Bye. Bye. Amazing thing. I would like the tiger to make a wisdom saving throw. Five. It's my friend trick here. Seeing it just says down and the tiger is immediately struck by animal friendship.
00:45:58
Speaker
Okay, but this also saw that this also functions as a warning. Probably inadvertently. All right, I need a shift from everybody.
00:46:11
Speaker
Man, if I turned into a bear, Drakir could have just handled things until you had a chance to lay your hands on it. I don't think you know, because you have an intelligence above four. If it has an intelligence above four, it just fails. Gotcha. What do you have to do?

Charming the Tigers and Battle Resolution

00:46:24
Speaker
Addition initiative. Eight. Oh, I rolled so very badly. I guess not for Drakir. Eight. Eighteen. Drakir 20.
00:46:39
Speaker
Barrick, four. Barrick is focused. The bees go first, the bees go last. Drakir, you are first. Okay. Thought. What are we fighting? Tigers. There are multiple tigers. Yes, there was four tigers total. How did I miss that? I don't know. I said one jumps on each of you.
00:47:02
Speaker
Oh, OK. Would one for each of them. I'm sorry. I would like one more of the Tigers to actually make that wisdom saving throw. I didn't realize that it now affects 21. Damn, he rolled a 20. OK, he's fine. He is not your friend. That is that is fair. Sonically pleasing for you. I will I will use another spell slot.
00:47:31
Speaker
OK. And I would like two more of the Tigers to make business saving tricks. Twelve. Fail. Twenty one. All right. Because all my 20s. Two of the Tigers are now our friends. Which one? Barracks, Drakirs or Booyahs? Well, uh. Drakir was already got the one dealing. Barrack, Dexes or Booyahs.
00:47:59
Speaker
Probably barracks. OK. So those tigers are now on our side. Yeah, they're charmed by me. OK, it is now Dex's job. Bonus action. I'll place my slayers eye on one of the on the one attacking Dex. OK.
00:48:22
Speaker
All right, Dex is calling to use his ribbon on you. Do you mean that awesome weapon that you begged me? Can we go back to episode three when you got that thing? No, I love this weapon. It's going to be fun. Actually, honestly, I just need to remember how to play with it in a fun way and make it fun again. Rekindle the spark. I do. I've lost that fight and feeling. Whoa, that fight.
00:48:48
Speaker
uh 21 no 23 yes that hits the tiger good uh 1d8 that's 10 11 15 17 points of damage on the tiger okay it is now the tiger's turn unless you have something else you're going to do how long are those two tigers 24 hours yeah balls um
00:49:17
Speaker
No, I don't have anything else to do. I mean, I don't need to disengage from it or anything. So that tiger is going to attack you back. Fine. It's going to bite you. Twenty four. I remember biting. Yeah. Yeah. Twenty four hits.
00:49:38
Speaker
Like a constitution saving throw, they're weretigers. F*** yeah. No, you do not want to be a weretiger. Nine damage as the tiger jumps up and sinks its flesh into your fangs. Gross. Why? You use some gross body build with a tiger. And Booyaz is going to attack Booyaz with advantage because Booyaz is still surprised he has not acted yet.
00:50:07
Speaker
10. Yeah. Okay. The other tigers get to go. The other tigers attack their former pack mates. Okay. I just don't have packs. What do you call it? Tiger?
00:50:20
Speaker
pride. That's lions. Yeah. Oh, tigers don't group. They're solo hunters. I'm Googling this. Yeah, I don't know. It's probably just a den because they're only together when you're family. I hope it's something good, like a constitution of tigers. So I would like a streak, a streak of tigers. Okay. Or an ambush, an ambush of tigers. That's even better. This was literally an ambush tiger. So I would like them both to attack the tiger that attacked decks. Okay.
00:50:46
Speaker
And you can roll and I'll do they have like, they don't have pack tactics or anything like that. So there's no reason. OK. I rolled an 18 and a 14. OK, so 23. Nice. What is the damage that I roll? Oh, D10. Do they both hit? Yes. I rolled a five and a one.
00:51:14
Speaker
12 damage total. They have a multi attack? No. Okay. These are CR1. Booyah. Booyah. Gracefully sidesteps the one that was about to hit him and pulls his rapier, spins his hand crossbow on his hand, swings his rapier to pierce like a jab at it, I guess. Thrust. I'm going to thrust.
00:51:42
Speaker
And that's going to be 18. 18. Yes. That is a hit. That's going to be six damage. Just going to do it again. Poke it again. That's 17. Hit. That is seven damage. And then he's going to fire a crossbow bolt. Okay.
00:52:12
Speaker
It is 10 damage. It's still standing, but this tiger is looking haggard. Um, okay. It is barracks turn. I will go after the tiger attacking Booyah. Okay. Okay. What do you want to do with it?
00:52:39
Speaker
I would like the I would like to frighten away the other tiger. OK, yeah. Since I presume him looking haggard means my crit is probably going to end him and you still get double damage on that. Yeah, I was thinking that would have made a cool mount. We got two of them. Oh, I roll the dice twice, huh? Yeah. Do I roll the extra six that he does now twice? Yes, because that's also a weapon. OK, that's 13.
00:53:09
Speaker
21 yes, I didn't do my slayers. I was six 27 damage
00:53:16
Speaker
How would you like to describe the tiger step? I think Barak just comes over and very simply methodically steps up alongside and just brings the sword up and down and just down into the tiger's neck. OK, so that just finishes it quickly. So that tiger goes limp and you see the tiger in front of decks begin to kind of back away with the hair raised on its neck as it snarls at the two tigers that have turned on it and it turns and disappears into the jungle.
00:53:46
Speaker
After a bit more travel, um, it goes uneventfully. You begin to see tiger scouts now. Yes. Um, they have a plus six to stealth and a plus three to perception. Sweet. Um, they're like advantage on perception from sniffings.
00:54:03
Speaker
or Katniss. Yes, I can. I can. Can I can I read one of those tigers tiger? Probably not a tiger tiger. It's just a tiger. I could probably ride Booyah could. Well, it was a size two. I don't know if you guys remember this about decks, but he can get very small and get the size of a dwarf.
00:54:22
Speaker
Not if they are going to scout for us. I don't re- I just wanted it for just the story. I guess that was grandchildren. I just wanted to say I rode a tiger, you know. Never mind. There's a saying among my people that those who sought to ride the tiger often ended up in its mouth.
00:54:42
Speaker
Oh man, your people are such bubbers. I did explain to you the history. Oh no. I get it. End of episode. Seems like a good place to end the episode. A dumb joke.
00:55:00
Speaker
