Speaker
I'm
00:00:55
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Ever On Our New Actual Play Podcasts at the Ever On Campaign Setting. I'm your game master, Eric. I'm typing, sorry. I'm Philip. I'm Randy.
00:01:07
Speaker
I'm Jeff. Did you just almost say just the word intellect? Is that what I did? I was I was updating. I was updating my character sheet and I cannot talk and write at the same time. I'm not capable of it. So just started writing. So I was saying the word I was typing. Yeah, that's funny. Yeah. This happens frequently while teaching.
00:01:31
Speaker
If I'm riding on the board, I am. Well, I am intellect.

Recap of Previous Episode

00:01:38
Speaker
Welcome to another episode. Gentlemen, what happened last? Bad stuff. Everything mission accomplished. Everything go boom. But mission accomplished. Yeah, I like Randy's take mission accomplished.
00:01:50
Speaker
This is about to die. Hob is about to die. Hob can't move. Eris doesn't have her Fletcher. Reynard has disappeared. Not in canon, but out here. Scheduling's hard, everyone. Milo's head is about to explode. Oh, that's right. I forgot. He's only got one wound left to give.
00:02:14
Speaker
I regret that I have but one wound left again. I don't even know where we are. I haven't listened to the last episode because I didn't realize it. So I'm not even sure. Like all I remember is we were all bummed about the Fletcher being gone and I just looked at my character sheet and I've got two wounds left. I almost gave a disclaimer in case anybody was experiencing the same problem that you were and then I realized they wouldn't hear this episode if they were experiencing the same problem that you were. My feed didn't update for a couple of weeks listener and I didn't realize it. So I don't know what's going on anymore.
00:02:41
Speaker
it into the skiff and then that was it. You're in Tasha and you're just got in Tasha, aboard Tasha and we are on the lamb.

Complications and Character Challenges

00:02:48
Speaker
Yeah, there's a big hole in the side of the building. There is a middling portal to Zoryat forming on the wall. There are some warforged bodies left behind. There are some terrorists that are running out of the building, also warforged. And Slaughter is nowhere in sight. Slaughter took off into the city concerned about the voices in their head.
00:03:10
Speaker
Maybe they'll go be friends with the mind flayer. The number of ways in which we've made sharn worse today. You can't think of that. I feel like if this building had been blown up, which was our only real goal is to keep the other group from blowing up this building.
00:03:26
Speaker
It would be better than what we have done instead. The portal's getting smaller if that makes you feel any better. It doesn't. I don't know what the minimum sized horrible creature from Zorat is. Yeah, that's fair. A dulgrim is about the size of Milo. So, you know, that's the smallest you've seen. But how big of a hole does some sort of weird gibbering ooze creature have to need to slither out into the world? If there's one small enough, Eric's about to give it to us.
00:03:55
Speaker
Picking up right where we left off, Eris is under the effect of a failed fear check, so Eris is trying to get away as quickly as her mind and body will allow her to. Obviously the person you want behind the stick here. Yeah, so I presume that means that Eris is telling Tasha to get gone quick. Eris has jumped behind the controls and the skiff is accelerating as fast as it can through the skies of Shorn.
00:04:24
Speaker
hob, the adrenaline finally wears off of your initial push to get Milo out. And so you collapse, allowing the temporary disabled critical injury to take full hold where you are immobilized until this is healed. And Milo has one wound left to give. So I'm glad you did not collapse on Milo. I guess technically too, because it's when you exceed your wound threshold, not when you meet your wound threshold. So all right.
00:04:52
Speaker
Technically you got two. If that makes you feel any better, Milo. Yeah, I think technically probably all of us have maybe two. And Raynard, I don't think got hit in that fight once. So Raynard's just hanging out. Is he still invisible? Yes. I think so, yeah. I think Raynard is still invisible. We just assume he got in the boat. Very quiet also, yeah. Raynard. Raynard, are you here?
00:05:20
Speaker
Please don't talk to the absent player character, Randy. I don't want to role play for Trevor's character. Oh, I will. I'll have. Yes. And your coat looks terrible. I think that would win. I have some fashion tips. I'm fine. That was real good. OK, gang, you have the core.

Mission Regrets and Discoveries

00:05:36
Speaker
You were able to teleport that out of the Eldritch machine. And Aeris got some information and was able to disable the Ghoulra border. Didn't really get any insights on how
00:05:51
Speaker
didn't really get any insights on if it's possible or how to accomplish bringing a warforged back after they have been overtaken by the Eldritch machine. But that was a tertiary objective on the mission. So yeah, we have a
00:06:09
Speaker
core too we stole the core stable core because it was removed from the sheet before the bad stuff happened so right good job everyone yeah hob is laying down in the boat because it's what he can do and he says eris
00:06:27
Speaker
I'm afraid in the confusion I've left your Fletcher behind and then just accepts the whatever happens first nearly causes a terrible sky accident Tasha like jerks sideways and drifts through the air and Eris just whips her head back towards the smoking breach in the wall of a tower that we escaped through
00:06:50
Speaker
than just, ach, and just lets loose this long stream of Dargul profanity as she pounds on the controls with her gauntlet. What Hob notably doesn't do, just to say, is give any hope of potentially getting it back or telling her we'll try because Hob doesn't.
00:07:15
Speaker
Perhaps I could turn invisible and retrieve it. Possibly. You can't go back in there. You're practically dead. These wait, these gloves, they're just jams on the controls and the ship just lurches forward again at high speed in no particular direction.
00:07:38
Speaker
Milo starts fiddling with the gloves on his hands and he's just starts to concentrate on them staring at them and all of a sudden on the side between forefinger and thumb he feels like a little almost like a button and pushes it and the gloves begin to glow faintly and then all of a sudden just this adrenaline rush
00:08:08
Speaker
just hits him and he just immediately begins to feel so much better. And these gloves are amazing. I feel okay. I think I'm fine now. Harris, I've got to give these to you to do your recharging.
00:08:32
Speaker
These are magnificent. And Milo sits up in the skiff. What are you talking about? I've got these gloves. I don't care about your freaking gloves, Milo. But I feel fine now. Congratulations. I'm not hurt. No one else does.
00:08:48
Speaker
But I could perhaps go retrieve... I feel quite nice, actually. Perhaps I could slip in and get the pleasure. Open some portal to some terrible place again. I don't... I did not do anything to cause that. The machine that attacked me is what I believe. Right. And whatever goes on in your head is more terrible than whatever that machine was.
00:09:18
Speaker
Well, that's rather hurtful, Aerys. Just willing to try to help us all. But fine, let's do whatever it is we're going to do. My lord, there's no going back in there tonight.

Seeking Medical Assistance and Clan Politics

00:09:29
Speaker
Period. It's... We will die. He says, I'm glad that you're...
00:09:35
Speaker
feeling better and then he just closes his eyes. Perhaps I could try some medicine, perhaps, check and see if I can help you. Yeah, I have a hard critical on me that keeps me from doing anything.
00:10:00
Speaker
What's yours, Aris? What's your, what's your critical? Uh, I'm compromised. Uh, so the difficulty of all skill checks is increased by one right now. And then I, well, I had one that doesn't have a lingering effect. I was overpowered, which allowed someone to hit me twice. Right. Three purple. Three purple. I did it. One failure, two advantage. Okay. Well, that seems to be beyond my ability. Yeah. It just remains on the floor. I don't know.
00:10:30
Speaker
Where are we heading? I don't fucking know. Where should we? There's the cauldron and there's four sails. It really comes down to if you want to set your place right now, Iris. Those are the places to go. Well, you can't even walk right now. What can we do about that? Jeff threw his hands in the air. I don't know what that does. However, in spite of that, in spite of that gesture, we may presume that Jeff does in fact care. Oh, Jeff cares. But perhaps we could go see the clan's doctor? Creep.
00:11:02
Speaker
He has been quite helpful though. He is definitely an odd character, but it's worth a try. A hob can be nothing. Can we go to him? He's the clan doctor. Won't the clan doctor just murder a hob at this point? Don't know, because he was a dear friend of my father's. I believe that should be a story point. Yeah.
00:11:32
Speaker
Flip it, ready? Does that mean he won't report us? I think that just based on what he knows of my family and I, and how, I mean, he knows Sadin was, Sadin's relationship to our family. I think, I just don't believe he would believe anything of such. I think he would be helpful. But obviously I cannot guarantee that, but I don't think he would.
00:12:02
Speaker
Harm, Hob. I've never seen him or heard of him personally harming anyone. If he were to try to harm me though, I'm in the exact position where I could do nothing to stop it. And that's a bummer. But also if it's all we've got. I don't know. I don't know what to do. I don't know. Just... Here's the thing. Out of everything, Randy puts a story point saying his dad knows the guy. We need to go see the dog. He knows the family, but he was really good friends with dad. I can't move.
00:12:31
Speaker
Which means I can't help you, any of you. Milo can't help me move. But if he says that he has a familial history with Marist, then...
00:12:45
Speaker
We ought to at least give it a shot. That's very well, Dr. Pebblefist. I can still punch him if he gets close enough to hurt me. Okay. So y'all head to, oh yeah, go ahead. Aeris jerks the controls and swings the ship around very fast. Yeah. Speeds towards Dr. Pebblefist.
00:13:06
Speaker
Hey, he worked hard for those two letters. Get off all the right people. I don't believe that at all. Yeah. You all head to lower Memphis, where Dr. Pebblefist's office is. And yeah, you're able to knock on the door and the little view window slides open. You just see two stark pair of eyes staring back at you. Hey. Funny seeing you all around you.
00:13:32
Speaker
Yes, hello, Dr. Pervifist. We need your assistance, please. Dangerous. Come to me.
00:13:41
Speaker
Yes, I realize, but I was hoping... You see the eyes shifting back and forth, like it's looking down the alleyway, even though it's impossible that he could be. No one has followed us, and we just... Our friend, Harb, is in a very bad way, and we could really use your help. We got an invisible fellow following you, right?
00:14:03
Speaker
Yes, he's a friend. Just making sure. Trevor was not here to be given the opportunity to say he drops a visibility. Trevor can't. Only Milo can. No, no, it's a deck. Trevor's fell. Technically, it's until the end of the encounter, but let's just play with the bit. So the viewfinder windows slam shut and the door opens like just enough for you all to enter. Oh, really? Cobb rolls it. What can I do for you?
00:14:31
Speaker
My friend here is unable to move. He's suffered a very serious injury. Oh, you want some new legs? No, no. I believe for this disablement to be temporary based on the title of my injury. So I think new legs are unnecessary. Perhaps just put a fresh shine on the old ones.
00:14:52
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. I can give it a go. Just get, I need a hand getting him up on the table. He's a big fella. What can I do out of combat? Can I walk myself? Like I understand the incompatibility of his story, but for right now. Drag himself up while we help. Yeah. Just move incredibly slowly. Hob like you're hobbled to the point where in combat maneuvers are not available to you, but you can. Yeah.
00:15:20
Speaker
You can stand on your own strength and move very slowly. All right, this might hurt a little. Try not to scream too loud. I hate to draw attention. And he grabs a bag of tools and comes over to the table and he is going to
00:15:38
Speaker
Make a check to heal it. Because he is a medical professional in a confined space, though, this is not going to be determined whether or not he does it, but simply how long it takes for him to do it. And if there's any complications as a result of him attempting to do it. But before you start, Dr. Pebblefist. Here you go. And Milo hands him five pieces of gold to inspire him. How generous, Milo.
00:16:06
Speaker
I do really appreciate this is not the first time you've helped us doctor and we certainly appreciate it indeed okay he'll get a boost from Milo's generosity we are currently looking at do you all have any sense of urgency are you trying to get him to take care of this quickish or is it a sit and wait take your time dot kind of thing what's the vibe
00:16:32
Speaker
Maya's vibe is he wants it done right, but what's Hobb's vibe? That's the question. Hobb just says, stick me with the cornerstone, get me back in the game. Let's talk for a second though. I mean, I'm at the chance as we try to go back for the Fletcher tonight, back to that building to get to Fletcher. I think none. Okay. That's what I think too. Yeah. That's the biggest part of me. I don't want to put errors back in there.
00:16:58
Speaker
And the only reason Milo said it was because Milo's not really thinking a hundred percent clear most of the time anyway right now. Of course. So I think that, yes. Of course, the actually invisible person who's a skilled thief didn't offer to go back and get it. Poor Trevor. In Trevor's defense, he's the one that tried to sneak a story point to make it back with us at the end of the last session.
00:17:20
Speaker
OK. That's because the person who has access to the meta resource is a nice guy. The character would never offer. That's a good point. OK. Pebblefish isn't feeling like you all are rushing him at all. So the difficulty, the check is three yellow, one green, one blue, three purple. Yep. OK. How many story points do we have? Two. Hey, wait, I had I had two advantage. Can I use that for pebble fist? Yeah. Pass on to the next check.
00:17:51
Speaker
I don't think I, Hob has nothing intrinsically that helps this sort of role. Okay. Yeah, I don't think I have anything I can do here. To success, to threat. Okay. So, yeah, relatively quickly, Hob, you feel like a tingling sensation coming back into your legs. You're getting full motor use of them once again.
00:18:10
Speaker
as pebble fist. Yeah, it hurts though. It's some big thick needles and some very hot fluids getting injected into the muscles and doesn't feel good. The two threat. Let's do two points of strain. Keep it simple. You got it. Anybody else need anything? I so rarely have company. Imagine why. Is the way I talk.
00:18:36
Speaker
I guess I've got a little bit of gold in my pocket. I'll buy, I buy a couple of healing potions for the table. Like we're all in a bad way and he's a doctor. What can I get? How much do I have? I think I have 25 gold that I've kept track of. So I currently don't need one. My health's full again.
00:18:57
Speaker
I know if an Eris and I both do. So if I can get like two, one for me and one for Eris with 25 gold, I think I should be able to get pretty decent ones,

Alira's Schemes and Doctor's Persona

00:19:06
Speaker
right? Yeah. How much gold? Sorry. I have to, I know for a fact I have 25. I'm sure I have more, but who knows where it's gone. 25 gold. Yeah. You can get a few. You could get four painkillers for a gold. Four painkillers for a gold. Yep. They're 25 silver each.
00:19:25
Speaker
Oh, okay. I didn't realize it was that. Okay. Wait, I got the conversion wrong. Sorry. Four painkillers for 10 gold. It's okay. That makes more sense. I, you know what? I'll just get four then. I'll just take four of them, give the guy 10 gold and I immediately hand two of them to Eris to take if she would like. His wounds are not bad. She's just, she's critically injured. Yeah. Oh shoot. Okay. Anyway, we got four. We got four things now. Is she going to let the doctor have a go at it? No circumstances.
00:19:55
Speaker
under no circumstances will Eris let this doctor lay hands on her. Pebble Fisk looks at Milo as Hob is Hob. He encourages you not to hop up off the table. Give it a second. So Milo, what in the hell is going on? Been hearing things. Yes. Well, you've heard is highly inaccurate, I'm sure. I heard Satan's dead. Is that inaccurate?
00:20:21
Speaker
Yeah, no, that is accurate. Yes. Sounds like you're wrong. That in that particular case, you're absolutely correct. Get a Maris. The inaccuracy would be that we had anything to do with it. I see. I heard. That y'all. This is the story anyway, killed Vigo or killed Satan, kidnapped Vigo.
00:20:48
Speaker
tortured him into confessing for killing his uncle and then dropped him off with the city watch. You know my relationship with Satan and Satan's relationship with our family and your relationship with us. And I would hope that you would trust and believe me when I tell you that we had absolutely nothing to do with it.
00:21:14
Speaker
My and our main goal was to bring Sadon's killer to justice, and Viggo planned it all out in an order to attempt to try to frame us. And yes, we did procure a confession from him. And if you were able to hear that confession, he confesses to so many things that he need not have even said, but he did.
00:21:44
Speaker
And yes, we did turn him over to the watch. So it sounded like one thing I've heard your dispute, but everything else is true. Oh, what we're disputing the big part though. The, we didn't kill him. Like the main part, which kind of makes the rest of it a bit moot. If you ask me the parts that we corroborate, I didn't kill him as a big bit.
00:22:09
Speaker
No, I'm just... Milo, you and I go way back and... Illira... has seized power in the clan and is... spreading the story I just told you far and wide. Yes, I'm sure she has. Everything is in such disarray right now. Hopefully there will be a way to... set things right. Milo, Illira wants your head on a stake.
00:22:37
Speaker
I don't see how you set things right with her. That's possibly not with her, but I don't know that there has to be some way to to set things right with the clan and for everything. Milo, she is the clan. Yes, this is very true. She's. No, but she shouldn't be. She's a bit mad. She's grieving.
00:23:06
Speaker
Her dad died a couple of days ago. Sure. And yeah, I get that, but she's going to start a gang war and it's going to be chaos and then nobody benefits. Yes, she's not really in my eyes and several eyes, I believe, really capable of doing this job. As you all are talking, Pebble Fisk goes to one of the stools in his office and
00:23:32
Speaker
grabs a screwdriver off of a table next to him and pops one of his legs off and begins tightening one of the screws in the knee joint as he chats with you all. There's an easy way to prevent all that doom and gloom, but I don't think it's a path that you all want to go down. We've always listened to your advice before and I'm always curious to hear what you have to say.
00:23:55
Speaker
Oh my lord, I am being, I'm being facetious to a certain extent because the solution to preventing her from starting a gang war is to turn yourselves into her and forfeit your lives for the betterment of the city, which I don't think you all will want to do. But no, if she's in charge, whether we're alive or not, she's still going to go to war.
00:24:23
Speaker
I quibble with the premise that my death would be better for the city. Right? Oh, based on, once again, this is all trickling down from the top, what I humbly hear as people come in to get patched up.
00:24:37
Speaker
Her timeline is moving fast, because according to the documents within the clan, you all were working with Dask, working with Tyrants, working with other gangs in the city. And so that's remarkable. It's like all the gangs in the city have suddenly put aside all of their grievances and worked with some no-name low-level Boromar cronies.
00:25:00
Speaker
What a believable story that is. Did you believe it because we're so exceptional that all of the tasks that were given and we performed them all so cleanly with very little issue that everyone would work with us? Is that the impression that you've been getting? Have I given you the impression that I'm an idiot because that's how you're talking to me right now? Mine was more of a joke, but no, you haven't given us the impression that you're an idiot, but it does sound like you're
00:25:24
Speaker
I'm putting aside what you know about this city right now to, if you believe, and I apologize, you haven't stated that you believe these things are not, but I assume you don't because, as you said, you're not an idiot. And you're here right now, and I have not sent out the call to come apprehend you and receive the very generous reward that Alira has put out on your head.
00:25:50
Speaker
Is your voice just less creepy when you're being serious? Because it's become steadily less creepy over the time that we've been talking. Do you answer the door like that in order to put people off? They tend to hang around less if I'm creepy and I don't know. Yeah. That's been my view of the whole situation. Yeah. Yes. No. But you presume that like it wasn't a goal earlier and now it seems like maybe it is.
00:26:17
Speaker
Nobody wants to spend time with someone when they are lonely. A lonely person drives people away. So if I convey myself as lonely, people leave me alone. That is dark. Did you want to spend time with me when I said nobody spends time with me? I didn't want to spend time with you a long time before that. Eris stop! Oh my gosh.
00:26:43
Speaker
He fits the leg that he was tightening up back on and takes the other one off and begins tightening it up. I can honestly say that your personal loneliness had very little bearing on whether or not I wanted to come here. I wanted to come here because I could not move my legs and I trusted that you could probably fix it. And I'm stuck around because it sounded like you were disabusing Milo of the fact that we are going to ever be in the good graces of the clan again. And I like when he hears that.
00:27:11
Speaker
Yeah, no, we agree about that. And I do appreciate that you seem to believe that we probably didn't kill Zaden Boromar, given the fact that you did not just kill me while I was laying emotionless on your table. Or orchestrate the grand alliance of all the other criminal gangs. Does anyone believe that? Does anyone believe that? There are plenty of people that believe that the other gangs would form a temporary alliance to take down the largest gang and form space at the top. That seems like a very believable action to take.
00:27:42
Speaker
Especially when they're vulnerable. Seems like it hasn't happened a long time ago. Seems like it would have. Everybody hates each other too much for that. Everybody hates each other, but they all hate whoever has power. And that can bring people together. So say you met anyone from Dask. We met someone from Dask. I don't think anyone's working with Dask. Pretty awful. I'll tell you this much. We're not working with Dask.
00:28:13
Speaker
So you didn't? When the Boromar Clan tells us to.
00:28:16
Speaker
Yo, they hate us. Like, we've done some things on their behalf, or on the Boromar's behalf with them, yeah. Nothing freelance. That's true. Yeah. Yeah, we haven't freelance with the Dask. Yeah. No. No, you were cleaning up Viggo's mess, in fact, with Dask by saying it's solid. Listen, I'm just saying that Alira is going after the other gangs right now because she thinks that they have a hand in the death of her father. But does she? Because there's like absolutely no evidence of that.
00:28:44
Speaker
Like, it's a real big stretch. So, doesn't it make more sense that she's making that crap up in order to support whatever it is that she has as an ambition? Because, look, I was there when we were framed, and I know what the evidence was, and there's nothing to do with the other gangs. I think maybe what Merist is getting at is everything to do with this talk, carrying a really distinctive dagger around.

Gang War Intentions and Treatment Warnings

00:29:09
Speaker
In bringing sense into this is where we reach the problem.
00:29:13
Speaker
A grieving person who is extremely powerful is telling all the people that she has the extreme power over a thing. Logic is not a part of this. They're going to believe it because it's in their best interests too. The other thing that you have to ask is why? If we assume the premise that you all killed Satan Boomer, why?
00:29:50
Speaker
Or, and forgive me, you all received considerable, some resources, what have you, from the other client, other gangs in the city to perform two actions that would irrevocably destabilize the Boerma clan. Kill Satan Boerma and frame Vigo as the killer and turn him over to the city watch. Look, I can think of five people who might've paid us to do that and none of them work for any other gang.
00:30:01
Speaker
I struggle to think of a reason it makes sense outside of a fit of passion that would ruin us ultimately.
00:30:21
Speaker
It'd be like this one's taught father or salmon Callaway or I don't know mill hatch or something like that. I think lots of people who would who might have offered us money to kill Satan but.
00:30:38
Speaker
None of them work for another gang. Just saying, if you're gonna make a lie, make it, you know, easy, man. All I'm saying is that what the books say is that you all recently have worked with the other gangs in some capacity. And that's the thread they're pulling on. Not saying it's true. It's never worked for the tyrants. Side question. Time out.
00:30:57
Speaker
Okay. I thought we had been given the information that Illira was unstable and wanted to start a gang war. And that's why she needed to not be the leader of the Boromar. Not Illira wants to start a gang war because we supposedly killed Satan.
00:31:15
Speaker
It's probably true, but that's just what he's heard. That's what Marist has heard, though. Right? Sure. Yeah. We have the meta knowledge. It's not even meta knowledge. We start down with the Dark Lanterns. We have the separate knowledge that Marist doesn't have. Okay. Cool. Puts his leg back on, takes one of his arms off, begins tightening up the screws in that. Do you want me to hold that for you? Nah, I can be all one-handed. I'm used to being alone.
00:31:42
Speaker
We're going to take off. I don't know. I suddenly feel like I need to. This place is a bummer. Be careful. I wouldn't. If you need me, obviously, feel free to come around, but you never know when you're going to knock on my door and there's going to be some people in here you don't want to see. Speaking of, Aris, leads in a bit to whisper, hoping that...
00:32:03
Speaker
Now that he's proven he's considerably more canny than you thought, would you like to let him give a shot at your injury? I got a little gold in my pocket still, after he's reattached his arf. Fine, since I guess apparently he was pretending to be a quack every other time we've talked to him. I'm not sure he was pretending to be a quack. He was pretending to be a quack and a weirdo. He might still very much be a quack. It's not the weirdo part that Aerys thinks Aerys unwilling to seek medical attention from him. Job's getting done though.
00:32:30
Speaker
Milo wouldn't have brought you here otherwise. Yeah, Milo absolutely would have. Yup. Yup. Harris has immense comfort. It takes immense comfort from Milo's judgment.
00:32:40
Speaker
Wait a second, you think Milo would have faith in somebody who doesn't necessarily deserve it? No! Right? But... never. I mean, obviously, Eris and Hob both have faith in people that don't deserve it. It's just a less consequential person. Yeah, that's fine. I have two medium... I have two average difficulty. Okay. We can give. Uh, wounds.
00:33:03
Speaker
Alright, Aris, go ahead and sit on the table. See, why'd you put the creepy voice back on? You had this perfectly normal accent. This is working voice. And then you started mouth breathing again. This is working voice. It's muscle memory. He's gotta go back into it. It's associative. I'm doing doctor things, so I have to talk like the doctor. Doctor things! Okay, three yellow, one green, two purple. Any story point action or anything? No, I'm fine.
00:33:27
Speaker
One success, two advantage. So we said it. So the wound in your hand, he patches up to where you feel the full mobility of your fingers return. Once again, very big needle, very hot liquid injected into the wound. Oh, I should have told you that would hurt. It's better though. I don't blame him at all. I need to fix your voice too. Is something happening?
00:33:54
Speaker
know her voice is fine. He's simply choosing not to use it right now. I get that. And he goes back over to his stool and sits down. You all need anything else from me? I don't think so. Oh, yes. I just, I want, I hope you trust that we are not gunning for the annihilation of any one or anything necessarily. We don't hate the idea of a large sadistic criminal organization getting a little less large and a little less sadistic.
00:34:24
Speaker
But I hope that you have come to realize what I like to think you already believed, that we are not here for the destruction of the city. We are not interested in watching Sharn crumble for our own personal gain or the gain of another clan or anything like that. So I hope that boy, yeah, okay, really would like for somebody else to ask this so I could loom, but I've already started. Simply, if you hear anything that I'm not even asking you to protect us,
00:34:52
Speaker
but some sorts of things that give you pause of the future of the city, of the future of innocent people coming into the crossfire of all of this, simply because Illira is zealous. If you could find a way to let us know those things that we might be able to mitigate or get out in front of, if that makes sense.
00:35:16
Speaker
Sure. Got any means of communicating with you all I can use? I don't tend to leave here. Is Arthur around? Arthur is not nearby, tragically. Can you send missus if you give me an address? Are we still going to the for sales? Guys, we talked about this. We are, right? Yeah, we've been to the for sales. Yeah. Let's know about the for sales, because if nothing else, we can get a message from Ulfin. Yeah. We'll go hang at the for sales. All right.
00:35:46
Speaker
Be careful hanging around that district, though. Still clan territory. Sure. Doctor, thank you once again. Sure thing, Milo. As always. I appreciate your help. Be careful out there. Don't do anything stupid. And if you do, I'll be here. Very well. Milo, head's out. Goodbye. You hear a disembodied voice say, Okay, Hop can walk again.
00:36:16
Speaker
And that's good. Back aboard, Tasha. Back on the boat. Where are we going to the four cells? Are we going to the cauldron? What's Eris feeling? You all still have the core in Tasha as well. Wherever we go, we need to be wary. For sure. Who knows the cauldron? Just us. Relatively small number of people. Cauldron is relatively, yeah.
00:36:45
Speaker
Yes, there is that. Do we want to keep driving around with this thing or do we need to take it back? I think we need to take it back. Yes, I would say let's get it to- All right, everybody in. Good. Drive. No, no. All right. Down into the cowugs.
00:37:04
Speaker
Okay. You all are able to find your way back to the hangout spot for sigil's cool chill club. And yes, you do spot ash standing on a crate, proselytizing to some more forage that have gathered around groups leading up to this, leading up to this grand crescendo where he pushes the button.
00:37:29
Speaker
No, no, he he's actually if you listen to what he is saying, he's actually talking about interlopers and how those that are not like us are not to be trusted. And putting the pieces together, you get a sense that maybe he got a report on how his group did and is trying to turn their failure into some kind of
00:37:53
Speaker
rallying cry we walked by carrying the core real casual oh yeah rainard waves the detonator oh are you missing this sorry we interrupted your bomb party yeah you're able to get to sigil's hang out and yeah you walk in through the doors and half a dozen warforged standing about near the entryway that stop and look at you all and two of them
00:38:30
Speaker
One of them starts like, oh, wow, sigils back there and gestures towards the back part of the warehouse. You all have to zigzag around some crates that

Core Delivery and Battle Aftermath

00:38:40
Speaker
are stacked up high and you see the table with sigil spruce twig and leather neck around it discussing something and they stop as they'll stop. Oh, the next slide slides a map off the table back and so quickly. Excellent.
00:38:40
Speaker
that were obviously here before, gestured to the other four. Okay, they're cool and they pay you no money.
00:39:00
Speaker
Yeah, it went real efficient. No, Eris sets it. I would like, you know, the attitude is for Eris to drop it on the table, but Eris is extremely worried about this thing. Eris sets the thing carefully down on the table. But with the body language of someone who really wishes she was dropping it, you see the greenish glow reflected in Sigil's copper face as they get close to it and staring. That's obvious. Amazing.
00:39:29
Speaker
What anything of note happened? Sigil pokes her head past it and looks at you three. See those other wall forage showed up and tried to blow the place up, but we stopped them except that the bombs are still there. Oh. This can't be detonated. Great. But there are just still bombs there. That's bad.
00:39:54
Speaker
We took down the barrier, keeping you from going in. Great. Right. And that's what allowed them to come in and set the bombs down. Right there. Yeah. The rainbows and clouds. Right. There was a war forged that you told us about slaughter. Something weird happened to him, but I'm not exactly sure what it was at this point because.
00:40:15
Speaker
That was about the same time that Portal to Zorat started to open and blacked out. Was that the machine? Did that have what? Like the core or what? No, I had to take the core out by that point. Yes, the machine somehow got into my head. It raises their hand timidly. What? You might have said somehow, but the fact is he's left a large access point in his head.
00:40:45
Speaker
And in this case, the machine grabbed it as opposed to the evils of Zoriat. I would like it to be known that Eris did not throw Milo under the bus. Milo jumped under it all on his own. All by himself. Right. Yeah.
00:41:00
Speaker
So is your brain like a portal to Zoriat then? Spruce asks. I don't believe so. OK, I thought you were about to say I don't know. It's going to be a worse answer. The fact that we can't answer that question confidently really just really explains a lot about things.
00:41:19
Speaker
Yes. And Spruce kind of leans in like to my. So are you like crazy or. Oh, I'm not crazy. Sigil kind of puts a hand on their shoulder and that's enough kind of gesture.
00:41:32
Speaker
and pulls it back. Apologies, Milo. No, he's not crazy. He's one of the smartest people I know. Just- Oh, I get it. Spruce is war for- is Sigil's group's heiress. Thank you. Did you learn anything about how we could possibly reverse if a warforged is taken over by the machine or how the barrier works by any chance?
00:41:53
Speaker
No, things got real bad, real fast, right about the time that I would have been able to study the machine. So there wasn't really any studying. It was more something happened where the machine was definitely going to explode. So it was a grab and go job. Fair enough. How did you disable the barrier? Look, she smashed it with a hammer. Did I do that from the security panel?
00:42:21
Speaker
No, you disrupted the runes on the wall. Like you were. Yeah. Yeah. Slightly carefully with great precision, uh, through manipulating the security systems, runes. Yeah. It was twig. Are you writing this down? Good. And twig with a notepad and a piece of charcoal scribbling notes.
00:42:45
Speaker
Uh, there were a lot of warforged in there, but they weren't like warforged. They, like they could change themselves. Like their shape, like they, they had them. It's like the metal of their body could go fluid and reform itself. To what application did you see? She holds up the hand, which has a nice big vertical scar running down the palm and then flips it over to the backside.
00:43:15
Speaker
The slaughter seemed to apply it to brutality, mostly. We didn't see what they kind of used it for in a scientific circumstance, but... But it really didn't seem like they were in control of themselves? Is that correct? I would say so. Also concerning is that the mutations didn't stop at the Warforged, so whatever. It doesn't feel like it's a Kenneth thing, because that affected me as well.
00:43:43
Speaker
I will say just so you're like the other warforged seemed very much in control because they were able to like bring it up as a shield. They were able to turn him into spikes. Like they were in total control of the malleability of the metal of the mutations, not necessarily of themselves, though. Correct. Yeah. Yes. Like the machine started just throwing green light, magical energy, I guess, around and it was able to affect Hob when it struck him.

Machine Transformations and Abilities

00:44:13
Speaker
And something weird happened to slaughter where something took over his body and erased his ghoul bra. What? But it didn't kill him. Honestly, I don't know why. But just growing up, I always assumed that if something did that, it would
00:44:37
Speaker
kill you, but it changed him, it changed his shape, and when he changed he didn't have a ghoulra anymore. He was all sorts of strangely weirdly shaped and seemed to have gone crazy and fled at that point instead of staying and fighting us. He was definitely scarier shaped. Yes. He's losing his city now. Also that, yeah.
00:45:05
Speaker
So the implication would, and Sigil seems nonplussed by that last piece of information. Sigil's already got the gears turning in their head. The implication then would be that somehow this, is this machine fueled by transmutation magic as opposed to, but how could you change a warforged free will with transmutation?
00:45:29
Speaker
That would be a good school of magic, unless there's some physical aspect internally within the warforged that causes to act the way that we act. And then if you change it, you change us, but we'd have to dissect a warforged and that seems gruesome. Yeah. I guess if we called it an autopsy, it would be less gruesome rather than dissection. Sure. I don't I don't know. I don't know really anything about
00:46:01
Speaker
our warforged were made. So I don't know. I mean, yeah, I really didn't have any opportunity to study. I didn't have any real opportunity to study. So yeah, it's just strange that it would change. So the magic hit slaughter. And then they were altered and didn't seem in control. But you said she entered your head, Milo. What happened to you when that happened?
00:46:29
Speaker
Did you change? Oh, it just yet. Hopefully not ever.
00:46:37
Speaker
So it only affects Warforged. No, I changed. I thought I said that already, didn't I? You implied it wasn't exclusive to Warforged, but you didn't say, hey, Hob got weird stuff happening to him. Oh, I fully intended to, if I didn't. I may have missed it. No, so there was a point where I would just say I was visually adaptable, and then currently I can't show it, and I'm certainly not interested in proving it to you, but I think I might be poisonous.
00:47:05
Speaker
When I hit someone, and again, not listening to the episode, did I hit someone? Is there proof of this or is this just a way out? No, that was at the end of combat. Plus you would have only been hitting warforged and poison is probably not very effective. So I need to take some samples of that.
00:47:22
Speaker
Wait, so when you hit something, no, okay. So this is totally forgivable. Just semantically, you would then be venomous because offensively, if you disable something, it's venom. Whereas if something were to like try to eat you, then you would be poisonous. It's just there's a distinction there. Words matter.
00:47:42
Speaker
See, last night, Eric and I were watching WrestleMania together and we turned to each other at the same time to correct some semantic crap one of them said on TV. And I just realized what that's like for people. Also knowing full well the difference between poison and venomous and not thinking about it for a half second before I said it out loud. I didn't like it. Now, fine. What's important is over the course of what was at most a few minutes, I fundamentally changed my physiology several times.
00:48:09
Speaker
But you're, I don't know what that's going to do to the old wear and tear on hob first off, but you're not changing now to my knowledge. No. Do you feel the same? Do you feel different? That's a great question, Eric. How do I feel mentally and emotionally? You feel the same when I, okay. How about this? Do I feel like I still have this thing going on or do I feel like I did before the fight? Is there an external manifestation of this?
00:48:36
Speaker
I also implied that there were like small spines on Hobb's fists that had the venom on it. Sounds great. I don't remember that, but that sounds good. No, I did at the top of this episode. I think maybe before we started recording, I jokingly said that to you and it sounded good. So I was like, yeah, that's it. If I just have slightly more angular knuckles now.
00:48:53
Speaker
So, Jeff, this is a question for you rather because we said we were going to talk about Between Coordinating and We Didn't. Do you want Hob to have this continue? Because it could either be basically the two options are no, you're outside of the presence of the magic and the venom thing will wear off eventually. Or yes, in which case every morning when you wake up will do the rolling thing.
00:49:15
Speaker
And then in combat, because Hob is under stress, his metabolism runs faster, sciency jargon. It happens at the top of every round.
00:49:25
Speaker
I can't imagine what will prepare me more for playing some sort of wild magic analog. I'll be honest, I wish you hadn't given me all the parameters so I could make a blind choice in that, because now it just sounds too cool, and I'm taking it because it sounds cool, but I think I was going to keep it anyway. Especially, I understand Warforged physiology being different than a whatever I am, or Goliath.
00:49:46
Speaker
that it could wear off of me and not of him, but let's just keep it consistent. That sounds great. Okay. Okay, pardon me. So yeah, you feel, Hob, like the lingering magic that's flowing through you right now isn't dissipating and isn't wearing down. So you get a sense that this will linger and continue. I am still, I guess I'm still gonna go with afflicted until I'm guaranteed this is not a bad thing that's happened to me. Yeah, I still got it. And I pulled my hands up and I show that my hands are different and a bit more rough.
00:50:17
Speaker
Interesting. Okay. You also have note that you all spotted in terms of the security of the machine or anything like that. The only bit of information you all have not conveyed, you are more than welcome to not convey this. If you've been intentionally withholding it, slaughter was able to pass through the barrier because their goal was incorporated into the incantation that created the. Oh yeah. Eris would report that. Oh, also it suddenly occurs to Eris as she's explaining the thing with the runes on the wall.
00:50:43
Speaker
There's flicks or goggles down and just tries to swap to the security feed of the building. Smattering of city watch in the building along with a couple of works. You can tell our Kenneth Kenneth Kenneth employees have shown up. They got a call like, hey, facility got broken into. So they are there. There's also people there now.
00:51:07
Speaker
Does she, does Eric see her Fletcher being moved out of the building? It is still on the ground. It is an active crime scene. So they are not moving anything right now, but there are a couple of city watch, like squatting near it, like looking at it confusedly. And radar says, maybe you shouldn't leave your signature weapon behind it. A crime scene. There is, there's punches at the voice, but yeah, that's what, so yeah, Iris would explain the Bruins. Interesting. So if we could somehow.
00:51:34
Speaker
get our ghoulra in the barriers we could pass through, not let ashes people pass through them. That's interesting. But- Sorry, yes. It's possible that your- No, please. No, go ahead. It's possible that your ghoulra being in the line of accepted ghoulras might also put you in a- How do I say this? I don't know how spells interact with each other.
00:51:55
Speaker
But if you're accepted there, is it possible you're more susceptible to the machine as well at that point? Is that something you're... Hmm. Potentially. I suppose Slaughter did not have a good time once the machine went haywire.
00:52:06
Speaker
but we'll need to do some testing and investigation to see if there's any correlation between those two events. Anyway, thank you all so much. You have been an immeasurable help towards our goals and ambitions.

Sigil's Mission and Support

00:52:21
Speaker
So thank you. We literally could not have done this without you. Which are what?
00:52:26
Speaker
Two, to stop what Kaneth is trying to do. Stop them from controlling the Warforged, trying to seize total control of the Warforged. And then more broad strokes just make life better for Warforged in Sharn. Just, yeah, some of the systems that are in place that designed not to really benefit us, just trying to change those, make things better.
00:52:49
Speaker
in a not destructive manner like Ash's people. So yeah, but if you all need me or my people for anything, feel free to call. You're always welcome to come down here if you need a place to lay low.
00:53:08
Speaker
I have heard some things that you have not brought up, and so I felt awkward about being the first one to breach the subject, but I hope you're okay. Well, didn't kill Satan. Great. I didn't think you did, but I'd heard things. Yeah. We didn't even kill Viggo. Come on. That took remarkable restraint. I know that I haven't been around with you all, so I'm probably not too- I punched him a few times after I left you guys, just in full.
00:53:36
Speaker
I haven't been like, I guess there was a time where I was associated with you all in the clan and everything, but I've been so far removed for so long that I'm not too worried about any retribution coming my way. How are Kath and Sana in the act? Two different questions. Look, it's been a, it's been a day. Yeah. Oh, okay.
00:53:54
Speaker
They're still dealing with a lot. They were happily not involved in the scene where we got blamed for Satan's death. So in that sense, they're at least clear of our mess. Obviously, they got other things that are problems, but I think that we didn't get any of this on them.
00:54:21
Speaker
Okay, good. Like I said, you always have a home down here, so if you need a place to lay low, you're more than welcome to. How many times can we swing by here before trying to get past Ash's friends to prove it's dangerous for us?
00:54:37
Speaker
It seems as though he's expanding his radicalizing to include us specifically, in fact, it sounds. Yeah, I mean, they I had heard that they crossed paths with you on it didn't go well, but. Considering they would have happily blown us up as well as the building, then yes, I'm glad it didn't go well for them.
00:55:01
Speaker
Well, and I think that you all did the smart thing and that you didn't engage them violently because if you would have killed one of them, then it would have been much more of a martyrdom. Like we were killed by outsiders, that kind of thing, but they all made it back safe and without any kind of wounds or anything. So they are angered at your interference in their efforts, but you all weren't violent against them. And so they can't take things too far. Good job.
00:55:29
Speaker
to answer your question. You're welcome to answer your question. Hobb, I don't know how long before things become untenable for non warforged in this district of the cogs. Ash would love for that to be quicker, but we're fighting against that. We're doing our own means to try and counter his messaging. So for now, totally fine. If that changes, I'll let you know. I have the address for
00:55:57
Speaker
cauldron, and so I can send a message there. Okay, great. Great. Great. Great. Spruce says, Great? Are we great? Sigil, I just, I truly hope that this was helpful. I don't know what we've set off here, though, doing it for you. I'm happy to have done it, because I understand the consequences of not having done it, but this could get real. Yeah, the slaughter situation is regrettable.
00:56:25
Speaker
hopefully they can be contained and hopefully nobody will come to harm due to their transformation.
00:56:34
Speaker
But there's not a whole lot that any of us can do to remedy that situation right now. I feel like none of us are in a position to go traipsing about the city hunting for a single warforged that can alter their shape, it sounds like. And I would be fearful to inform the city watch that there's a dangerous warforged roaming about because that would probably not be good for a lot of warforged that are not dangerous and roaming about. Yeah. Right. What are you going to do with that thing?
00:57:03
Speaker
He points to the core. Study it, figure out what magic is fueling it and how it is able to allow a Eldritch machine to seize control of a Warforged Ghoulra and how those changes manifest within a Warforged and ultimately, ideally, how to undo it. And that will be where my research stops. And I don't mean to insult you. I know you've thought of this, but
00:57:32
Speaker
You have a very secure place to keep it. Yes, of course. Was that thing in the install of the machine when it started to interact with the smoke from my head? Or had it been- No, luckily it was not contaminated by your head. I guess that's good then. Very good. Feel Leatherneck speaks up. I feel like it was not contaminated with your head as a good insult. I just can't figure out the application for it. It's got a good difference.
00:58:02
Speaker
Yes, I try to ignore things sometimes. Eris has been very hurtful lately. Whether that's true, the three of you. I don't know about any of that, but I. Yeah, sorry. There's there's no denying that Eris has been hurtful lately. Just looks at the three. Everything OK? We're going to go. OK, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
00:58:31
Speaker
Yeah, it looks real good. It's great. It's real good. Yup. Yup. It is real good. She doesn't mean it. I don't know if we... Call it a fracking mean it. Aeros walks out of the room. I was whispering. Listen, we're gonna... Your voice is too resonant to whisper successfully. No kidding. That has been a thorn in my side for 40 years. I think Hobb says to Sigil like, look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.
00:58:57
Speaker
everything we are doing is more dangerous than the last thing and it's starting to wear on us a bit. We're gonna go. Very much. I'm just happy we were able to get out of that last situation.
00:59:09
Speaker
Now we're off to the next. Like I said, if either of you or Eris or Raynard, wherever he is, needs anything. Hello. You're behind me. That's not unsettling. Well, it's unsettling because we don't know where he's been this whole time. If you all need anything, we owe you a huge debt of gratitude for the work that you did and the hardship that it's brought upon you. We can't repay, but at least we can do is offer to help if we can. Yeah.
00:59:38
Speaker
All right, we appreciate that. We'll be seeing you, Sigil. Bye, friends. Yeah. Back to Tasha.

House Deneth's Final Task for Hob

00:59:48
Speaker
As you all are heading out of the cogs towards the nearest Skydock at the mouth of the cogs, hob Narn at a booth near the edge of the cogs, and Narn kind of spots you and like waves at you and like beckons you over.
01:00:02
Speaker
oh gosh absolutely would keep walking but you can keep walking if you want no no he wouldn't actually he wants to but speaking of alliances with other enterprises he goes over to Narn to see what's up hey hob been in a second how you been not great Narn what's up man oh that's
01:00:27
Speaker
I've got some good news for ya, if hopefully it's good news anyway. I got word from on high that you're almost free and clear with Dennis. I'm almost free and clear. Almost with Dennis.
01:00:45
Speaker
Yep, they got one more recruitment gig they want you for, and then you're freaking clear. Mind me, why am I indebted? Oh, because I arrested his son once and his... You didn't arrest his son. You threw his son out. Humiliated his son. Yes, yeah. Mildly. Light humiliation. Some people pay a lot of money for that. Hey, the richer you are, the more the smallest cuts hurt. Okay, that's right. All right.
01:01:12
Speaker
Listen, Narn, I will be blunt. I am in the middle of seven things. All of them are potentially deadly to me and also potentially disastrous for the city. What do they want me to do and how easily can I get out of it? To answer your second question, probably not. General is real keen on this game. I don't know. I bet we can take him.
01:01:41
Speaker
I'm certain I could take him. Harris didn't say that and Hobb didn't say that. No, that was Phillip. I just get caught up with the voice. No, the General has brokered a potential deal with a Dargul Warband to join up with House Deneth, but they got one big ask. They got an old warlord that's got a hair for some vengeance on him that they need taken care of before they're willing to sign up. The General
01:02:09
Speaker
thought that you could deal with that. Just potential negotiation, telling this warlord to back off, or using your assets to deal with the situation if it doesn't go that way. What's this warlord's name? Oh, I have no idea. You're going to have to go talk with the war band. You're so well informed, Darn.
01:02:30
Speaker
Listen, I got a, hey, next time you see Hobb, tell him this. All Narn seems to know for sure is this is Hobb's responsibility. It has entered into the queue of my priority list and made me only because it sounds like a good time, but. Comparatively speaking. Listen. 100% Williams.

I get it. 100%. You got other stuff going on. We haven't worked together in a while, so life moves on. I get that. The general has, I'm going to say it the way that he would want me to just knowing that, know that this isn't my sentiment, but this is the way he talks to me about you. I get it. He has afforded you

the opportunity to go live your life because he has not had strong need for you, and now he has strong need for you, so he's calling you in to action. If you ignore that call, he's gonna get pissy, so. He's gonna send his paint twins after us again. Only one of them paints. I don't think that's right. And that's a cool way to cast magic. You back off. As I've said, Nord, I've heard the job. It's in the list.

If the general decides to get pissy, then he can come and ask me why I've not done it and he and I can have a talk. I'll explain to him exactly what I've been doing. That's absolutely a lie. But with my fists. Oh, yeah, maybe. So rest assured, Narnar, that your job's been done and your above reproach on all of this warlord and his warband and whose edits will be dealt with.

when I'm able to. I'm not trying to big time you hear Narn. I'm just saying the truth. You're a good dude. You and I got along great. I understand you had to get the message to me. If Boom Rush asks ya, let him know you let me know. All right, Hob. Yeah, just careful with him. Yeah. Got that nickname for a reason. I get it. I imagine either way, this is it for us. So Narn extends a handout to you.

It's honestly been a pleasure. It's not often that you find a decent person in this town and you seem like one. So best of luck to you and maybe look for another organization to get involved with. Houses don't let their own go lightly. So don't think that'll happen. But that's right. I forgot he's yeah.

I don't know, there's no linear top hat over there. Seems pretty spanky. Believe me, there's a thorn in my side since the day I came down here. You're right. He's got the charisma. He's got the bazazz. I've just got the benefits, but nobody wants that. And so, Narned Hob, Predator Handshake, and... Yep. Alright, Hob. Have a good one. Alright, you too, Narned. And Hob goes back and looks at his three compatriots and says,

Look, I got a thing that's probably going to be a good time down the road, frankly, but I think we should heal up first and look, I'm going to be blunt. We got to find something for heiress to shoot. I don't know. Eric, remind me, we called for a meeting with Koldor a while ago. Did that get scheduled or are we waiting to be called back? I think you were waiting to be called back. OK, that's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure. Yeah.

In game time, it's been like seven hours since you made that call. I realize, yeah. To the lanterns call back, I don't know that we can make any more progress on our most pressing issues. You're not wrong. So I think we should go back to high walls and find somewhere to drink. Yes, let's go. I'll join you while you

If you want to rep the show as part of your, I want to say fashion repertoire and I know there's a bit wardrobe. That's the word I was looking for, but yeah, we also have a collection, uh, YouTube channel, youtube.com slash the pantheon, where I do all kinds of tabletop RPG videos, advice, reviews, and we have another actual play Kyber shards or in the laughing tree.
