Introduction and Guest Introduction
00:00:03
Speaker
Hello, this is Arliss Walker, frontman for the Southern Outlaws Band, and I'm here in my own words that Michael definitely did not write. To present to you a true generational talent.
00:00:16
Speaker
No, I'm sorry, that doesn't cover it. The man you're about to behold is a true juggernaut of entertainment and comedic force of nature. and all-around humanitarian and the kind of entertainer I hope to be someday. I am not overselling it when I say it is most definitely your privilege to be here to watch Movie Night with Michael and Friends. So, buckle up, folks. And prepare for the most fun you'll have with your clothes on. And it is my honor to present to you my hero, my mentor, and most importantly, my dear friend, Michael Copenhaver, because he is good for the soul.
Welcome to Movie Night
00:01:07
Speaker
Big thanks to Arliss Walker for that awesome intro. oh Appreciate you, brother. Welcome to Movie Night with Michael and Friends. It's Friday night. Finally, after much, much length, I get to do something I've wanted to do for a long time with my co-host tonight, the Godfather of the Nonsense Network, Nick! What up, brother?
00:01:29
Speaker
What man? And you guys tell me I have an ego. That intro, man, that's something else. Gotta love it.
00:01:41
Speaker
Good to have friends in medium places.
00:01:46
Speaker
Let's do. Man, just living life. Busy as all get out, tis the season. So, that it is ah literally, I've been running since, and I had to stay like an ah about an hour, hour-ish late at work today. So, I've literally been running since like 6.30 this morning.
00:02:10
Speaker
And I sit down and I got to sit down with you, which is great. I'm excited. I know. It's such work to be hanging out with me. I know. I know. It's terrible. Worst, worst thing ever. This is the part of the day we're supposed to be looking forward to, jerk. I have been. That's what going to talking about.
00:02:25
Speaker
I have been. right. Since we talked about doing this night, I've been like, hell yeah, I'm excited.
Current State of the MCU
00:02:32
Speaker
And I've been looking forward to it too. I couldn't do it before. So here we are. If you couldn't tell by our shirts,
00:02:38
Speaker
We're going to talk about the MCU tonight. Where is the MCU in your opinion right now? Is it in the dumpsters, in the gutter? Stop checking scores.
00:02:50
Speaker
Where is it right now? What do you mean, like, with with the most recent movies?
00:02:56
Speaker
Like, ah okay, the Infinity Saga was phenomenal. Oh, yeah. It was spot on. Great meat. Everything in the middle was tight. A bunch of solid flicks going into the big finale.
00:03:10
Speaker
And then it just kind of petered out a little bit, it seemed. It wasn't as exciting. But i but they went in my opinion, they went for way too big way too early. They shouldn't have done Infinity Gauntlet right off the rip.
00:03:21
Speaker
It was awesome. Don't get me wrong. But that's tough. What up Wally? What are you doing, Glick? I'm not doing anything. I didn't do that. I don't know. um i Well, I like the buildup. I thought what Marvel did, and they're starting to do it all over again.
Rebuilding the MCU with New Characters
00:03:38
Speaker
they just They basically hit the re the the the recycle button. You had all the individual movies that build up to Avengers, and then you got a couple Avengers movies, and then you went into the Infinity Saga.
00:03:52
Speaker
So you had like Iron Man and Thor and Captain America, and then you had a couple of raw servers. And I think they're starting to do that now. And I think thanks to Deadpool and and Ryan Reynolds, we're going to get to see some characters in the MCU that we've never got to see because they were part of the Sony Fox universe. I'm talking about the X-Men and Fantastic Four.
00:04:14
Speaker
Right, right. Which I haven't seen the new Fantastic Four movie yet. And i I don't know, man. I don't know if I want to watch it.
00:04:24
Speaker
I didn't care for it. I didn't hate it, but I sure didn't love it either. I'm torn. That's a really cool moment. I like some of the things they did. I thought the yeah stupid Ben Grimm beard was really lame.
00:04:39
Speaker
You're rock, dude. What are you doing growing a beard of rock? I just thought it was idiotic. It suggests it needs to shave. And I think that's just stupid. I don't know. I thought thought it was idiotic.
00:04:50
Speaker
In the will of a personality, let's give him a beard. i mean... Kyle... Kyle... I feel like there's a joke in there about me, but... well Kind of like you. Yeah.
00:05:06
Speaker
What's going on, Jack? What's going on, Wally? What's going on, Britt? Good to see you, Jack. um But no, i think i think so I think they're in that recycle mode where they're dipping their toes into this next phase of Marvel, and much like with You know, when they first introduced Iron Man and Captain America, everybody was kind of like, really? Are we going to Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man? Really? Seriously?
Casting Decisions in the MCU
00:05:34
Speaker
And then within the first five minutes, you're like, nobody else could ever be Iron Man again. He's nailed it. I was super disappointed in the cast. really was. And I've never been more wrong and never more less afraid to admit it.
00:05:46
Speaker
i yeah I was like, nah, i'm not Robert Downey Jr., man. No way. He's going to get strung out again. Then there goes to a potential good franchise. But I was never an Iron Man fan.
00:05:58
Speaker
I was i was um i was in on the fence with it. I mean, I like some of the Iron Man. i like a lot of the crossover stuff. I loved War Machine. like War Machine was always my favorite.
00:06:12
Speaker
And, and then, you know, when you get the Avengers and stuff like that, but, um, I didn't really, Iron Man was cool. I guess he's kind of, you know, he's a, he's a billionaire with some fun toys. We all know, and we all know a guy like that with dead mom and dad issues.
00:06:29
Speaker
We've seen that guy before, yeah but, um, RDJ was RDJ. Absolutely. Uh, absolutely killed it as, as, uh, Iron Man.
00:06:40
Speaker
And, uh, i'm glad that they did speaking of war machine and iron man 2 they fixed the casting nothing against terence howard i just wasn't buying it i liked um cheetle as as war machine better
00:06:58
Speaker
who who didn't you like terence howard oh small oh okay okay okay i got it yeah um Yeah, i didn't I didn't care for that casting either.
00:07:09
Speaker
I thought it was a bad idea. just I'm still here. ah yeah I didn't care for the casting. I don't care for him as an actor, really. I've seen him in some decent stuff, but it's just, i don't know.
00:07:22
Speaker
I felt that a bunch of big-named actors could potentially ruin something great.
00:07:31
Speaker
I'm more of a fan of bringing people that aren't as well-known, stave money on that cast, and spend it in story and spend it in you know effects.
00:07:44
Speaker
There's better ways to spend your budget than on actors, I think. Yeah, and I think they did that with with the Marvel movies. I mean, Jeremy Renner, yeah, you you knew him from some stuff.
00:07:55
Speaker
Who was an A-list, I'll give you that right now. Yeah, like Tom Hiddleston. I never knew that guy until he started playing Loki. um You know, Tom Holland as Spider-Man.
00:08:08
Speaker
You know, the a lot of these a lot of these people that were in these movies, what's his name that played Bucky? Yeah, I mean, they they had careers. i'm not saying
Impact of MCU Roles on Actors' Careers
00:08:17
Speaker
they were nobody with the show or anything like that.
00:08:21
Speaker
But these are... But not A-listers. Yeah, I agree. yeah um ah oh, what's his name that plays Anthony Mackie plays Falcon. You know, he'd been in, you look at some of the, but you forget some of the movies that he was in, like 8 Mile.
00:08:38
Speaker
Like, oh yeah, that was Anthony Mackie in 8 Mile. But yeah, so I mean, you know, the the Avengers movies were like those once in a lifetime or MCU movies in general, like once in a lifetime roles that completely changed your career and in some ways set you up for life
00:09:01
Speaker
um because they're still doing it I like the the new Captain America movie with the Red Hulk I thought that was great I thought it was solid i didn't love it again didn't love it it just i don't know it seems short on story but that might just be me. I'm a little bit a harsh critic when it comes to Captain America.
00:09:26
Speaker
And I personally thought for sure that Bucky would get the shield. That made better sense to me because Bucky had the shield in the original, you know, he got it. Yeah. And the, and, and, and the comics Falcon did become the new, the new, um, yeah. But yeah.
00:09:51
Speaker
Um, ah Yeah, like I said, and that's the other thing that I've really kind of liked about um the MCU movies is for the most part, I mean, yeah, they go a little off.
00:10:03
Speaker
ah you know ah You know, I call it Hollywood and up movie. They'll Hollywood it up, you know, for the story. for the But for the most part, they do a pretty good job of sticking pretty close to the comics.
00:10:20
Speaker
And I think that was cool because we got to see so many solo movies, even after they did. Started bringing in the Avengers. You still got some solo movies outside of that.
00:10:33
Speaker
I felt that, like, with the story, right? Early on, the story was way better. The characters were better fleshed out. The stories were tighter.
00:10:46
Speaker
ah They just kind of, I don't know, man, they just fell off the rails, it seemed. Like, i I liked what they were going to do with Kang, but they kind of ruined Kang by being so easily thwarted by Ant-Man and the
Critique of Kang's Portrayal
00:11:00
Speaker
Ant-Man fam, you know?
00:11:01
Speaker
yeah I felt like the team set up as the big bad, and they were able to, you know, thwart him so easily with just Ant-Man. Yeah. I don't know.
00:11:13
Speaker
I felt like they set him up, but they neutered him. But I was still hoping to see better and seeing what was to come. But at the same time, I don't know. i just It didn't make sense to me. how do you How do you go from Thanos to a weakened, neutered Kang?
00:11:29
Speaker
Like they totally nerfed him. They nerfed him. yeah Well, I mean, the great thing about this new this new phase in Marvel is with Doctor Strange, they started playing with the multiverse.
00:11:46
Speaker
And they even did it with with Spider-Man. So who's to say Kang is necessarily gone and written out completely?
00:11:56
Speaker
Well, for now, we'll see what they do. It's like ah it's like a character on Supernatural. They're never really dead.
00:12:07
Speaker
A character on Supernatural. They're never really dead. All right. right and up the comics They find a way to bring people back. It always happens.
00:12:19
Speaker
Who has been your favorite casting choice thus far? as you That's tough. That's tough because I've loved it.
00:12:31
Speaker
I haven't really been mad at casting. You know what? I'm going to go out on a limb and I'm probably going to stand on this island alone. But again, reading the comics and stuff like that. And I love this guy.
00:12:41
Speaker
Fucking Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. nailed it. It was every... When they announced him as Ant-Man, I was like, oh, this is going to be good. This is going to be real good.
00:12:55
Speaker
And it was. It didn't disappoint. The movies, i am maybe not the greatest movies, but him as Ant-Man probably won a They're fun to watch. they're Yeah, they're all fun to watch.
00:13:07
Speaker
But yeah, him as Ant-Man...
00:13:12
Speaker
yeah I thought I was a really good casting myself. I thought Ant-Man was a great casting too. so Scott Lang with Rudd. I think that ah they really hit the mark. I mean, know I couldn't be more impressed with Robert Downey Jr. But again, i mean, he has such a great over like 10 year fucking story arc.
00:13:32
Speaker
Yeah. They touched on a lot of his you know original comic things and I said probably my least, man maybe my least, I'll think of another one, I'm sure. Maybe my least favorite moment in the MCU was the absolute fucking butchering of the Mandarin.
00:13:47
Speaker
i mean, that's a classic Iron Man villain, and they just tossed all the way up. Yeah, that was such a weird, like, almost Iron Man 3. I feel like it was like, we just got to get it out there.
00:14:01
Speaker
We just got to throw it out there. Probably my least favorite of the of the Iron Man series. But it it really did felt like, what's the quote was saying, it really felt like that to me. I i just watched just last weekend, I think it was, they had on FX.
00:14:20
Speaker
Yeah, during the holiday weekend. they they were FX or what is doing every Friday, they're doing Marvel movies for the rest of the year or some shit like that. It's Marvel Friday night. But to kick it off, they started with the Iron Man series leading into Avengers.
00:14:36
Speaker
And I watched all three of them. And I was like, man, I really kind of struggled to watch all the way through the third one. Even though like the action scenes were really good, I liked them and stuff like that.
00:14:47
Speaker
It was really hard to watch through it. But it felt rushed. but It was almost like, yeah, we got to get it out.
00:14:56
Speaker
i I didn't love the second one as much either. The first one was just so damn good. second one was great, man. They had Mickey Rourke.
00:15:07
Speaker
the The best part of the second one I felt was out just the party boy arc. you know what I mean? That starting of the doing too much and caring too little.
00:15:18
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Uh, Sheetal stepped up, War Machine, had to lay the smack down on his birthday party.
00:15:28
Speaker
Props to the Iron Man suit scratching. what what but Look at DJ in the Iron Man suit. Uh, but i don't know, man. Mickey Rourke, as the villain, didn't care for it, didn't care for him much.
00:15:42
Speaker
Uh, I wish they would have done something more with Hammer. Hammer Tech. Yeah. He was more interesting. i I thought he was more interesting. He was interesting.
00:15:55
Speaker
For me, because I remember when i first when I first watched the movie, A, love Mickey Rourke. I'm a huge Mickey Rourke fan. I'll damn near watch any movie with him in it, even though it's hard to look at that man these days. The Wrestler.
00:16:11
Speaker
The Wrestler was great. Harley Davidson, the Marble Man, was great when he was in Expendables. Fuck right, man. yeah ah That's a movie not a lot of people know. That's a great flick, dude.
00:16:24
Speaker
Harley Davidson Marvel Man is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love that movie. worst bald one could ruin in that movie. They tried. They did try. I love that flick.
00:16:41
Speaker
I'm glad you brought that up. along yeah It was an out-of-nowhere villain, Whiplash. I didn't expect to see him in the MCU. And I was like, hell yeah, I dig it. I like it.
00:16:53
Speaker
no I thought they were setting up with the Russian accent and shit. I thought they were setting up for... Help me out. What's the Russian guy? Dynamo? Crimson Dynamo? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, I know who you're talking about.
00:17:09
Speaker
that That's what I thought they were setting up for. And then when it was not, i was like, uh... Well, would have been kind of a replay of the first movie, right? Iron Monger versus Iron Man.
00:17:26
Speaker
Jeff Bridges in the first one. What do you think? As the bad guy. He's great in everything. I mean, he really is. Jeff Bridges cannot do wrong. He can't do wrong.
00:17:38
Speaker
I mean, I thought his character was weak, but he did it what he could with it. Yeah, a little bit. so one-dimensional, that's all I'm saying. it was just one-dimensional bad guy. Yeah, you could tell real quick like he was going to be the bad guy.
00:17:52
Speaker
There was no like... No, they needed an enemy. Twisted plot, you know, but yeah, it wasn't really. But I don't know. I like Jeff Bridges, and that was kind of a different role to see him in as ah as a villain, quote-unquote villain.
00:18:06
Speaker
Right. Yeah. But um has there been a character?
00:18:15
Speaker
Go ahead. Finish your thought. What were you going to say? I was just and like just adding words for no reason. okay Well, let's not do that. take count um but um has there been a character Has there been a character through the MCU that you've discovered that you didn't really know about much?
00:18:37
Speaker
Yeah, you know what? An entire group of them Thunderbolts.
00:18:42
Speaker
I've heard of them. I've seen them.
00:18:46
Speaker
Is there a Thunderbolts movie?
00:18:52
Speaker
With... Why do i not know what you're talking about? Thunderbolts. It had Black Widow's sister in it. The fake Captain America Sam.
00:19:03
Speaker
Or whatever his name is. who The new Avengers. Yeah, the the yeah the the new Avengers. I've seen the Thunderbolts. heard of them. Didn't really know a whole lot about them.
Discovery of Thunderbolts
00:19:15
Speaker
But fun movie to watch. I enjoyed it. I kind of want to see them do more or show up more or see them somewhere along the line a little bit more. I enjoyed them. They were fun.
00:19:29
Speaker
Yeah, a bunch of mystery heroes. Yeah, that and and I would probably say as far as the biggest one for me because Outside of Nova, I never really got big into Guardians of the Galaxy.
00:19:44
Speaker
So when they introduced Guardians, i was a lot of them were new to me. um I was more new of Nova Corps from Spider-Man's boy, Nova.
00:19:55
Speaker
um And he was affiliated with Nova Corps and stuff like that. And there was you know the Guardians would be mentioned here and there. and throughout different comics, but never really got big into the comic book. So got to learn a lot about each individual character, which is a great series in the MCU and a great tie-in to the Avengers Infinity Saga.
00:20:22
Speaker
I remember when they announced the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I was like, who the fuck of the Guardians of the Galaxy? Why are they doing this? Bring out heroes we know. another Hulk movie. What the fuck?
00:20:35
Speaker
But I got to admit, I love those movies. I like what James Gunn does. I really do. i know I know this isn't tonight, but I'm i'm curious. Speaking of James Gunn, just want to take a real quick detour.
00:20:47
Speaker
James Gunn is now over the or not the mcdc
00:20:57
Speaker
I'm curious. Zack Snyder did a great job with Justice League, and then there the Snyder Cut, I loved that. I'll watch that 17-hour movie any day of the week.
00:21:08
Speaker
What was it called? Justice League Black, I think? Yeah, yes, some Black or Gray or something like that. I don't know. was it was wrong I like that one, too. It was a solid play. But I'm excited to see what โ because โ Marvel's been killing it for years, and James Gunn has had a lot to do with Marvel's success, so I'm hoping that he can swing some of that success towards the DCU because, let's be honest, they've kind of been dropping the ball for years. Yeah, a lot of what's going on.
00:21:39
Speaker
Like, trying to shove Captain Marvel down his throats. Captain Marvel, as a comic, was canceled multiple times. Never a popular character. i And I'm not knocking female heroes out of ah know i I love in and and and the the last one when Stark died, when they gave all the female and you got to see Pepper and and the Iron Man suit or the in in her suit and everything. It was like that Mama Bear moment where all the women, main women characters just like,
00:22:13
Speaker
let's go. And then, you know, like we got to protect Spider-Man and let's go kick some ass. That was, that was really cool. I thought that was awesome. Plus getting to see Pepper finally in her suit was amazing.
00:22:25
Speaker
So was that I am a guardian, I think. Yeah. Something like that. You when she, when she, when she was rocking that suit, I was like, finally, well, he waited 20 years for this. Yeah.
00:22:38
Speaker
There were some good payoffs from a lot of the movies. There were some ah things that never did get paid out. Some of the series were a complete waste. like Did you watch the extended series and stuff on Disney Plus? Did you watch all the series at all?
00:22:56
Speaker
watch Moon Knight, and I really liked it. I wish I would have done more with it. we watched I was a Moon Knight reader. I liked Moon Knight. Yeah, I liked it.
00:23:07
Speaker
um and We watched Miss Marvel. think was in it with a little with the
00:23:15
Speaker
The Indian shit. Yeah. Kamala Khan. Yeah. um Kamala Khan, yeah.
00:23:22
Speaker
It was okay. I mean, i feel like a lot of the Disney series and and were kind of rushed. Again, I say this, I use this term, rushed.
00:23:33
Speaker
They were just thrown out there. I like the the Falcon and Bucky show. That was really good. I can't remember the name of it. Falcon and Winter Soldier. Yeah. mr but Yeah. I like that, but again... Falcon and Bucky show. Woo! Yeah, it's just a lot of them are just like you said. They're just dead-end, and then we're left with, like, I want more. Why are you not giving us more?
00:24:00
Speaker
You know? You can't get us all into it and then just pull the plug. and leave us hanging. what was this With Ms. Marvel, I'll just be honest, I quit after I think the third episode, maybe into the fourth a little bit. I just couldn't get into it.
00:24:17
Speaker
It was too too teenage girl for me. Does that make sense? Yeah, yeah. no it No, I agree. It really was. ah What I'm getting tonight, and what I'm hearing tonight, is you hate women.
00:24:32
Speaker
Ha ha ha ha Not all women. My mom's all right. And I love my wife. No, ah yeah it was a tough watch. It was, it was a tough watch even for cash.
00:24:43
Speaker
Cause cash and I watch a lot of these shows together and it was a tough watch even for him. Like it was, but we, fought we, we, we got through it, you know, there was supposed to, you know, be the connection with the doctor strange movies and, and everything like that. So we kind of,
00:25:03
Speaker
pushed through and did what we could and just took it for what it was at the end of the day it wasn't a great series but kind of feel the same way with the most recent zombies like it just left me feeling empty i expected i don't maybe i went in with too high of expectations because i read the graphic novels and i enjoyed them so much And that the the the Marvel series, What If, which I really enjoyed that What If series across the board, they they kind of touched on it a little bit, and that's kind of more what ah what I was expecting, and it was just a complete out of left field, not what I expected Marvel Zombies to be.
00:25:48
Speaker
So... You wanted to go touching the cancer verse and everything else? Is that what you were hoping for? Like i on touching into the cancer verse and everything else? Yeah, I wanted, you know, like a multi-seasonal thing where you kind of started the, you know, you don't have to start at the very beginning, but pretty close to the beginning and kind of work your way through it. And I wanted to see each, the characters get, not not every single character, but you know, your big ones, your main ones get turned and stuff like that. And it's like, here's three characters that we're trying to force down your throat and and and and and we're going to force them down your throat some more. Like,
00:26:25
Speaker
I never watched Ironheart, but I heard it was an absolute piece of trash.
00:26:31
Speaker
I didn't hate Ironheart. I didn't love Ironheart. It was okay. But again, it was just the writing wasn't up to snuff. ah Calling any main character Riri bothers the hell out of me.
00:26:50
Speaker
Well, it's quote-unquote now. You know how Riri is. They hate women. They're right here. It was Riri and Riri. Come on.
00:27:03
Speaker
I like the title, Wakanda and stuff like that. ah It was neat. It was a neat series. I didn't hate it. But again, it was just, like you say, felt rushed. Kind of a generic enemy.
00:27:14
Speaker
Sort of a generic story. Yeah. just that's That's kind of where a lot of these, and like I said, you know I love Moon Knight. I thought Moon Knight was great.
00:27:25
Speaker
Winter Soldier and Falcon was great. And Moon Knight came out of nowhere. i mean, it it it really did. It was one, and that was a character, i know it's a TV series, but that's a character that I didn't know a whole lot about going into it.
00:27:39
Speaker
and And I had to do a little well behind the scenes research and pretend like I was smarter than what I really was because Cash was asking me questions. And I'm like, get to today yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, he does. Yeah.
00:27:55
Speaker
so yeah I read some Moon Knight books. I didn't follow a long story or anything with it, but I didn't do that with any of the comics until I got much older. I can't explain. I loved to read as a kid, and I loved comic books for sure, but it was like, I don't know, that 60 cents was going to break my mom or dad.
00:28:13
Speaker
like I had to do something, have a dollar, go into the fucking store and get a comic. I was a Sasquatch in the hood. I didn't go outside a whole lot, so I read comics when I was a kid growing up.
00:28:26
Speaker
yeah yeah i read a ton of them but i mean there's so many stories i know now pretty well but just because of other channels and things like that i like to watch like uh comics explain if you love mcu and you love marvel and dc they cover dc a lot too check out comics explained on uh youtube it's a really great channel rob is awesome does a really great job doing some deep dives uh anybody listening check that out it's a great channel rob's a great guy I really enjoy it. And he does some really, really good in-depth story, like the Batman Metal. Holy shit.
00:29:02
Speaker
I wish I'd read that. But he covered it so well, I feel like I did read it. You don't have to go read it now. I mean, it doesn't really does a great job. But like with the MCU now, it's like they started this thing with with Kang, and then they wholly switched gears.
00:29:19
Speaker
And it's just, I don't know.
00:29:23
Speaker
ah went into the the fantastic four movie expecting to actually finally enjoy it and i'm sad to say i didn't i mean it was okay it was an all right watch i highly doubt i'll ever watch it again um i have some serious uh oh who's the guy playing uh reed richards uh oh what the hell is his name tell me out
00:29:50
Speaker
He's being poor. I'm totally fatigued. Yeah, es go ah this Pedro Pascal. He's did everything. And i'm just I've got Pascal fatigue. I'm tired of seeing him.
00:30:01
Speaker
I'm tired of having a listen to him in his red carpet bullshit. mag just Again, i i would have preferd i would have preferred they came out and brought in some maybe BC actors instead of a high-profile guy.
00:30:15
Speaker
kind of what they did with with with with some other casting in the MCU. I guess some of that some of the casting you could you could throw in BC. yeah You didn't know a lot of these names. you know Like I said, when you knew if if you were a fan of like Parks and Rec, you knew who Chris Pratt was.
00:30:38
Speaker
If you weren't, I think it was what it was You really didn't know who he was. um You know, if you were a fan of wrestling, you knew who Batista was. But you really didn't know him outside of wrestling.
00:30:52
Speaker
He had done a few movies before that. But um
00:31:00
Speaker
um what's his name that played?
00:31:05
Speaker
God, why can I not think of his name? The captain of the ship. Josh Rollins. What was it?
00:31:13
Speaker
Are you talking about Thanos? No, no, the captain of the show. Oh, no, You're talking about Rowdy Burns. Yeah, he was the blue-faced guy. Yeah, Rowdy Burns. That's Michael.
00:31:26
Speaker
It's Michael something. Yeah, he he's one of those that-guy actors. You know, he's in everything. Like Walton Goggins or, you know, he's he's like, he's in everything. He's that guy. But to see him in and that kind of role and and in It was a big role, and it turned out to be a massive fucking role because โ You know what? Real quick, because we're going conversation anyways.
00:31:52
Speaker
The MCU, you know one of the best things that they do as ah as a franchise? Shut up, Jedi. Baby, will you grab me a beer, please? The emotional roller coaster that they send you on.
00:32:09
Speaker
Highs, lows, you're happy, you're excited, you're pumped, you're sad, you're crying. Like, MCU does that better than any movie. And I'm going to encompass the entire MCU as a franchise, as a whole here. Any movie franchise out there, they do it better than anybody.
00:32:25
Speaker
You feel all the emotions of every character in every movie.
00:32:32
Speaker
Well, that's the thing. Like with the infinity Infinity War, they raised the stakes. At the end and people getting dusted, Spider-Man pleading.
00:32:44
Speaker
I don't want to go. i don't want to go. i don't want to go. Oh, my God. If that doesn't rip your soul out of your goddamn body. I mean, dude, that was fucking. ah Just thinking about it. I'm kind of fucking tearing Dude, Tom Holland was a great goddamn Spider-Man.
00:33:02
Speaker
I don't care what anybody says. Tom Holland. I love Tom Holland. Go ahead.
00:33:08
Speaker
go ahead But I've liked all three of the Spider-Mans. Toby, what's his name? It was literally right on the tip of my tongue. i just lost Yeah, Garfield.
00:33:20
Speaker
Andrew Garfield, and I've loved all three of them. I thought they were all great in that particular version of Spider-Man.
00:33:29
Speaker
So here's my thing. I felt that Tobey Maguire was a great Peter Parker. He wasn't a great Spider-Man. I felt Andrew Garfield was a great Spider-Man.
00:33:41
Speaker
Not even a good Peter Parker. He was too cool be Peter Parker. You know what I mean? Peter Parker, the edgy skateboarder, yay. That's just... I know. i know ri my heart on yeah no and that That was
00:34:01
Speaker
that was one of those first moments where watching you know avengers and just as a grownass man just absolutely losing my shit. just I couldn't even hold it back. I was ugly crying.
00:34:14
Speaker
And I still do. And I know it's going to happen. I've seen it a hundred times. And I still ugly cry. I ugly cry when Tony dies. You know, I cried through the entire Guardians of the Galaxy 3 movie. Judge me if you will.
00:34:27
Speaker
Man, that movie was emotional. Guardians of the Galaxy 3. I don't care. Yeah. i' I'm not gonna lie to you dude when I first saw Guardians the Galaxy I thought rocket raccoon that's fucking dumb but again I was never into the whole thing i didn't know about the whole planet with the ah but not the maker what was his name the high evolutionary I wasn't hip to him at all really it was more X-Men Avengers Captain America Thor like the single books and like I never read a single Iron Man comic ever yeah never
00:35:09
Speaker
DC stands for disconnected. No comment, Jed. Great comment. And yeah, that's what we were quite talking about. The way Phase 1 was as as close to perfect as an entire overarching multi-movie.
Hopes for MCU's Future
00:35:25
Speaker
I mean, dude, that was an amazing story told over a span of 10, 12 years. yeah It was unrivaled. Unrivaled. You never saw anything like it before.
00:35:37
Speaker
And I don't think, as sad as I am to say it, I don't think we're ever going to catch that magic again. It was too damn good in the beginning. I don't even think that The MCU is going to catch what they what they had again. I think it's still going to carry on and be...
00:35:56
Speaker
Man, don't know. i don't i'm i'm curious i like I'm excited for Secret Wars. Again, reading the comics, I'm excited for Secret Wars. I'm ready for it.
00:36:09
Speaker
There's a lot of things that I'm excited for that's coming up, but at the same time, are they going to continue to have this magic formula and this magic potion to keep putting out these phenomenal movies that they've been doing, or are we all desensitized to it?
00:36:24
Speaker
And it's like, yeah, it was a great movie, but we expected that. And if it's not as good, if it doesn't live up to the expectations of what Captain America and Iron Man and Thor Hulk movies built leading into the Avengers series, then are we just going to shit all over them?
00:36:48
Speaker
as fans, because it doesn't have that same that same buildup. Now we have our expectations set so high and we expect so much that we're just like, man whatever.
00:37:00
Speaker
Love you Jedi. I'm leery.
00:37:10
Speaker
um but i'm i'm leery The only thing I'm looking forward to as far as ah Secret Wars and Doomsday, Doomsday and Secret Wars, they're Russo brothers.
00:37:27
Speaker
Dude, amazing. Captain America First Avenger was top-notch fucking movie. Forget about superheroes and shit. A top-notch movie. Excellent pacing, excellent acting. I mean, they get the most out of everything. And what a great story.
00:37:42
Speaker
I mean, it gripped me all the way through. it was just a good goddamn story. I felt like they they didn't do the Red Skull right, in my opinion. I felt that it wasn't. It was just there was no chance to build it up. You know what i mean?
00:37:59
Speaker
I'm disappointed that they didn't. It's like that Cleveland Browns-Pittsburgh rivalry. You know what i mean? Yeah, I'm disappointed that we haven't gotten more Red Skull throughout the years because that was like he was like a major character, a major villain. he He was Captain America's Joker at the end of the day. like He was like his ultimate villain. We just got a little bit of him in like one movie and maybe some other mentions.
00:38:29
Speaker
you know and That's all you get. or Just mentions. Maybe a picture. Maybe a brief video. ah Just seem like a real waste of Hugo Weaving. you know what i mean yeah Bulldog in the house. What's happening? Jeffrey, what up, dope?
00:38:42
Speaker
je Mandy Mandy what up oh we resemble that remark hey and that was somewhat disappointing in and of itself just that lack of lack of ah execution on the Redskins and yeah but you said I mean he's everywhere and I don't know the whole hydra thing just kind of petering out and then they brought it back when they needed it
00:39:12
Speaker
You got to see more of Hydra and stuff like that. i don't know if you ever watched the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. true I wanted to see some of that get incorporated into the movies.
00:39:25
Speaker
Yeah. Like Quake. I kind of wanted to see Quake make it into the film somehow. and What a great character. I need to get back it. She was a great little actress. and I never heard of her before. was outstanding.
00:39:37
Speaker
Yeah, I need to get back into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because I think I fell off around season two, maybe three. And I'm mad at myself because of all the characters that were introduced on that show, like Ghost Rider, for instance. um You know, and it's like, again, another character that's not a part of the MCU because but the the rights belong to a different company. I don't think that was a Sony Fox movie.
00:40:05
Speaker
But you disney Disney is buying up all these companies and you're getting the rights to all these companies.
00:40:15
Speaker
Why are we not doing anything with some of these characters? like Say what you will, I love Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider. The first one was good. second one was a little weird. You don't have to bring Nicolas Cage back as Ghost Rider.
00:40:28
Speaker
Why can't we get an MCU version of Ghost Rider?
00:40:33
Speaker
Or an MCU version of Blade, which apparently... All sorts of movies. So... But ah that's something that I have seen with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. You get to see a lot of characters that you don't get to see in the movies.
00:40:49
Speaker
And I'm like, I really got to get back on that show. And I got to finish that series. ah Yeah, liked it. I thought it was solid. I watched it all the way through.
00:41:01
Speaker
Ghost Rider minus the cage. Do you leave Nicolas Cage? That man is a national treasure.
00:41:09
Speaker
Ah, I see what you did there. I can't think of his name. i was glance It was like Robbie Ramirez or something like that. But yeah, the yeah the um Ghost Rider that they used for the series was tight.
00:41:24
Speaker
Nice. It's not a bad joke. Who's the other one? Hell,
00:41:33
Speaker
Who was the other one? Hellfire or something like that? ah What was his name? Oh, shit. The bad guy?
00:41:42
Speaker
No, no, no. he He was one of the good guys. He would like just ripped flame from everywhere. it was like
00:41:49
Speaker
Diablo. I think Diablo might have his name. Oh, from the ghost? up duty play ball I'm thinking of not not the human torch, the guy from the X-Men. And I can't even think of his goddamn name now. ah That manipulated fire. He joined Magneto. and Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was... My name is Pyro.
00:42:15
Speaker
Solid dad joke glicks from Mandy. Thank you, Mandy. Appreciate that. don't do dad jokes. Brittany Cox. Brittany Cox is the new gatekeeper of comedy. Not funny!
00:42:27
Speaker
Yeah, apparently. She's done like no stand-up, but apparently she's the greatest comedian ever. She's done stand-up. She's done stand-up. Give her a break equal break. Looking forward to New Year's Eve with her. It's going to be a lot of fun.
00:42:42
Speaker
Oh. Oh, ah what? Nice. For an additional $50. I got it. Tickets. the only you Go.
00:42:56
Speaker
And VIP meet and greets. So those are up and ready for sale. All you got to at the end of the night. Yeah, that's right.
00:43:08
Speaker
Oh, ah remind me in the yeah after show, give me a couple of minutes of your time. I have a great idea for a merch item. It's too late in the year to do it for this year, but for next year, it's something we can work on.
00:43:20
Speaker
we have plenty of time to work on it. Yeah, dude, a great merch item idea. It's going to be really something special. I think a lot of people are going to love it. Yeah, my my goal in the new year is learn how to use my equipment. that I know I've been saying I'm going to, but my goal for the new year is to learn how to finally.
00:43:40
Speaker
So we can do all kinds of work. Is this third year in a row that going on? it's only been the last few months. have Lots of it going on in the last few months. No, um before we get too sidetracked like we do,
00:43:55
Speaker
um I know it's not technically a part of the MCU yet, ah but I know Disney has gotten the rights and everything like that. We kind of touched on some of the series.
00:44:10
Speaker
Several years back, Netflix fucking killed it. with The only one i didn't care for the Punisher. Was which one?
00:44:24
Speaker
Punisher. Didn't really care for it. Well, i like the Punisher. I want to see Tom Baranthal get... Now, here's the only thing that bothered me about Tom Baranthal as Punisher. I don't mind the casting. That's not it. Go ahead.
00:44:35
Speaker
Yeah, this is the only thing that bothered me. I love the Punisher series. This is the one thing that bothered me. Barenthal is short.
00:44:48
Speaker
He's not a tall guy. The Punisher was a big dude.
00:44:53
Speaker
he was He was a big monster. So how did you feel about them how did you feel about them hiring Hugh Jackman then? Because Wolverine is not tall.
00:45:05
Speaker
Depending upon which comic you... but i don't Hugh Jackman... Doesn't come across as a tall guy, but I think he's surprisingly like six foot tall or something like that. i i sixty two i didn into large again I did enjoy comic accurate Wolverine and Deadpool and Wolverine.
00:45:27
Speaker
Me too. And I like how they yeah they made a comment about the thing. ah nice Nice costumes. as well What did you expect? Black leather? Yeah.
00:45:39
Speaker
Because Brian's hair refused to use the comic-accurate costumes.
00:45:46
Speaker
Jackman is great. yeah Jackman's great. i agree. Jackman's... I and don't... The MCU... I was right. Six foot two. Okay, yeah. He doesn't come across like a tall guy, though.
00:46:01
Speaker
You know, nobody would actually... like he When you see him in movies and stuff, I don't know. It's kind of like Tom Cruise. And I know it's angles and how they shoot him and stuff like that. Tom Cruise is four and a half feet tall.
00:46:15
Speaker
But in movies, he looks bigger than what he actually is. Sorry if you're watching Tom Cruise. I'm a huge fan. I love your movies. Been a fan forever. You're crazy, but.
00:46:28
Speaker
That actor is. a and is on That is Cotton Weary from Scream. What the hell is his name? Yes, that's Alcuret. But what's his real name? He's got a strange name. He's got all those weird names.
00:46:43
Speaker
Yeah. He's cotton-weary to me. He'll always be cotton-weary. It'll come to me.
00:46:55
Speaker
But he's a great actor. And yeah...
00:46:59
Speaker
I loved him. i thought he was a great saber tooth. um I really liked the Wolverine movie. Wolverine Origins. I loved it. out there i I loved it up until the end. What they did with with Wade Wilson. That was the only part I didn't like.
00:47:19
Speaker
Not even so. Absolute travesty. absolute travescy Yeah, it doesn't matter. I like the guy. I'm a huge Gambit fan. I love Gambit. I was so excited in Deadpool and Wolverine when I finally got to see, judge me if you will, I love Channing Tatum. I think he's a great actor. I think he's fucking hilarious.
00:47:35
Speaker
And yeah, he's a good looking guy. But I think he's fucking hilarious. Hey, have you screwed him and hold on have you seen him in those movies? Hold on a second. Have you seen him in those movies with Sandra Bullock?
00:47:46
Speaker
the one though The one where she's like a writer and stuff? She's like a writer? Yes! yes Yeah, yeah. He's fucking amazing in those. He's hilarious. Yeah. Let's try. Thank you. thank you johny Yes. Liv Schreiber played. forward so of his Britney's got the Google box.
00:48:06
Speaker
That's right. But you're in the middle of saying something. I totally said. that No, you're happy to see a the guy who played. Gambit in the and the Wolverine Origins movie, I liked him. But, man, Deadpool Wolverine, I was so excited to finally see Channing Tatum not only not only play Gambit, but rock the OG Gambit will costume. him And nail.
00:48:35
Speaker
Because, I'm sorry, reading the comic books growing up, I was a big X-Men fan. I love the X-Men. That's how I envisioned his Cajun accent was exactly how Channing Tatum did it.
00:48:49
Speaker
And when he came on screen, first of all, I freaked out because he's in the suit. He's in the X-Men suit. And then I heard him start talking and I went, that's everything I thought it would be growing up.
00:49:08
Speaker
It was amazing. Yeah, Tyler catched I believe that's who played Sabretooth later on. No, it didn't. It was amazing. it was Taylor Kitsch was the second one.
00:49:21
Speaker
Yeah, he was in one of the X-Men. The first one. The first one that wasn't good. But I was never a fan of Gambit. he was my Him and Jubilee probably my two least favorite X-Men. Jubilee was about the most worthless fucking X-Men ever to exist.
00:49:35
Speaker
I said it. you stand by It comes out later. She's apparently one of the absolute most powerful of all movies somehow. Right? It's crazy. Here's Sparkly. I don't know.
00:49:49
Speaker
That's what I think of now when I see her. Exactly. She's the one that turned Batman into a sparkly vampire. Robert, what's his name? Robert Pattinson. Robert Pattinson.
00:50:04
Speaker
yeah and Gambit was... We were talking about the series. There was one series you haven't talked about yet. Did you watch the the series... um ah God damn it.
00:50:19
Speaker
Hawkeye. Kate Bishop? I liked it. with Yeah, I really liked it. With like his protege, with the with the girl. I liked it. I liked it lot. Yeah, that Kate Bishop version Hawkeye. I loved it.
00:50:32
Speaker
And dude, anything that's got the kingpin in it, Fucking amazing. Well, um Vincent D'Onofrio will forever be kingpin to me.
00:50:45
Speaker
Hats off. Forever. Right. Excellent job. Excellent job. He is an excellent kingpin. What a great cast. I love that they brought him back. And and they're going to keep him out forever.
00:51:00
Speaker
He was kingpin in the Netflix series.
00:51:04
Speaker
um with Daredevil and all that. He was Kingman. I'm like, I love Vincent D'Onofrio, first of all. I think he's a great actor in everything he does. He will forever be Kingpin to me.
00:51:17
Speaker
Nobody else can ever be Kingpin again. I'm sorry. it just does Well,
00:51:26
Speaker
The next kingpin, they'll us we but switch it up somehow. It'll either be Ellen DeGeneres maybe or perhaps ah Idris Elba.
00:51:38
Speaker
Could you imagine if Idris Elba put on about 150 pounds? I'm a fan of Idris Elba. Me too, man. He was outstanding. dude I love him. I love him in everything he does. i've never I've never not liked him in anything. What was it? Michael Clark Duncan.
00:51:55
Speaker
played Kingpin in one of the movies. Wasn't it Michael du Clark Duncan?
00:52:03
Speaker
I think it was. Who's the other big black bald guy that's not Michael Clark Duncan? In a movie? In a movie. Yeah.
00:52:18
Speaker
Let me hit the old Google box here. Yeah, you'll have to figure that one out.
00:52:30
Speaker
If I can spell, that would be amazing.
00:52:36
Speaker
There's so much untapped resources with like mainstream characters. Yeah. Nova. nova What's that? Like Nova.
00:52:49
Speaker
And Marvel Mainstay. historicalical Nova. Nova's awesome. Nova's a badass motherfucking dude. That's a bad man right there. Yeah. and And that was a popular character.
00:53:03
Speaker
He did play Kingpin in what? In Ben Affleck's Daredevil.
00:53:11
Speaker
oh Oh, okay. Which I enjoyed that but That's why i forgot it. I enjoyed that movie. judge me I also like Batflick, so i I might be a closeted Ben Affleck fan. I guess I'm out the closet.
00:53:23
Speaker
I'm a Ben Affleck fan.
00:53:26
Speaker
I like his directing better than his acting in most cases. I didn't hate him. I thought he was an okay Batman. i thought he was up I thought he was a really good Daredevil until the Netflix Daredevil show came out. I'm like, yep, that's my Daredevil.
00:53:42
Speaker
I don't even know who that dude is, but he was a great Daredevil and a great Matt Murdock. Well, Charlie Cox, the new guy.
00:53:53
Speaker
Is that his name, Charlie Cox? Yep. I have no idea what his name is. He was from a, ah ah I think he was in a um series called Six Feet Under or something like that.
00:54:06
Speaker
The family that ran the mortuary. Oh, I know what you're talking about. That's a throwback. I thought that was an, I think that was an HBO show. That's a throwback. That's an old ass show. He was a kid in that one.
00:54:19
Speaker
Unless he's really old. and Yeah. That's where Dexter came from too. Michael, Michael C. Hall. Oh, really? They both came out of that. Huh.
00:54:31
Speaker
No, I, man, I'm curious to see if Disney, because Disney now owns the rights to those.
00:54:46
Speaker
Agreed, Mandy. Agreed. um I'm curious to see if Disney decides to do anything with some of these Netflix shows. um these ah these Marvel and Netflix shows, if they're just going to run the reruns or if they may try to... Because they did they did just do the... Yeah.
00:55:09
Speaker
Yeah, Daredevil Born Again. I don't love the new costume with the gold tips and stuff. At first, I was like, yeah but then you had to go back and look at the comics and go, you know, it's comic accurate.
00:55:24
Speaker
it's It's comic book accurate.
00:55:28
Speaker
My Daredevil is in Crimson.
00:55:32
Speaker
This is what it is. I don't know. That's the Daredevil I grew up with. I read Daredevil for quite a while, too. My Daredevil is Ben Affleck.
00:55:47
Speaker
Nah. Cox is better. All the way around. Speaking of the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie. It was it was cool to see Jennifer Gardner back as Elektra. Yeah, that was cool. you know And bringing Wesley Snipes back as as as Blade.
Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool's Success
00:56:06
Speaker
It was cool to see some of those older characters that kind of got forgotten, kind of to the wayside.
00:56:13
Speaker
know I've been hearing a lot of unfortunate things about Ryan Reynolds lately these days. that He's apparently a piece of shit, but you know what? Shout out to to him for... for taking care of the the Sony Fox Marvel movies and and and the actors and giving them a little screen time and letting them have their moment, so to say.
00:56:36
Speaker
The first billion-dollar box office R-rated film ever.
00:56:42
Speaker
Since we're talking about Marvel, can we talk about Deadpool? Absolutely. Is it too far of a stretch outside of the MCU? I know, it's a basis. i was debating do i do one mar but i I was debating do I do my full-on Marvel shirt or do i go through my many Deadpool shirts that I have and pick one of those for tonight.
00:57:07
Speaker
I have a Deadpool present. Chimichangos for everyone. I think I have one of them. I think I have that shirt, too. I've got a football jersey and a baseball jersey, Deadpool. Pretty cool.
00:57:19
Speaker
I like them. yes as you said what was it the first billion dollar rated r superhero movie the first billion dollar r-rated box office ever period superhero movie or not no r-rated movie ever before that one brought in a billion dollars we're in a worldwide box office we heard about that movie for years everybody knew ryan reynolds boys talking about clothes
00:57:51
Speaker
You're just jealous. Hey, girl. hag Hey. We heard about that movie for years and years. ryan reyn You do. Ryan Reynolds was fighting his ass off to get that movie. kind of And it's it's funny because it's it's along the so it's along the same lines as Channing Tatum trying to get this Gambit movie up and going. And it's one roadblock after another. And Ryan Reynolds...
00:58:17
Speaker
had all these roadblocks that were thrown up. You're never going to be able to do a rated R superhero movie. It's not going to fly. It's not going to happen.
00:58:28
Speaker
They've done three of them. And in the last one, and we'll get back we'll circle back around to to the beginning, but in the last one, he made several jokes to Hugh Jackman about the next 97 years of playing Wolverine.
00:58:43
Speaker
Well, Ryan Reynolds, you can't leave us hanging. We want more Deadpool movies. Don't be. Don't get them. Unless he ends up getting his ass canceled.
00:58:55
Speaker
Which he might be on the road of getting canceled because him and I ain't never been a fan of Blake Lively. Hashtag fuck Blake Lively. We'll bring that back from four years ago. Yeah.
00:59:08
Speaker
um Yeah, they're they're kind of under the bus right now. They're getting a lot of not pleasant press because apparently they're assholes. But nonetheless, you can be an asshole. I don't care.
00:59:19
Speaker
As long as you keep giving us Deadpool movies.
00:59:24
Speaker
I'll give you that. don't be a hurtful asshole. Yeah, but ah
00:59:32
Speaker
characters in those Deadpool movies that you don't hear a lot about. And my man in the first two was a big role. I was a huge, as I said earlier, loved X-Men.
00:59:44
Speaker
Always been a fan of X-Men. Wolverine's my guy, but, you know, it was like Wolverine's everybody's guy. I was a big Gambit fan, but Nightcrawler was another one I was a fan of.
00:59:55
Speaker
but Probably one of the most underrated X-Men, probably doesn't get a lot of love as far as movies and stuff goes, who was one of my favorites, was Colossus. and We got a lot of Colossus.
01:00:06
Speaker
Yeah. in the first couple of Deadpool movies. Classic number.
01:00:13
Speaker
Classic number of X-Men. A real juggernaut. wa the Not that bullshit juggernaut. Vinnie Jones juggernaut. yeah Nothing against Vinnie Jones. I'm a Vinnie Jones fan. I like him, you know.
01:00:28
Speaker
Not his juggernaut. That was some bullshit. It was a comic accurate costume, sure. But the juggernaut doesn't stand next to the other heroes and villains looking like them.
01:00:40
Speaker
i mean, he is an absolute fucking behemoth. He's an avatar of a goddamn god. I'm a juggernaut, bitch. Love that movie.
01:00:53
Speaker
I'm going to shove that guy up that guy. Yeah.
01:00:58
Speaker
I'm going to root you in half now. one That was the best goddamn thing we'll ever get, ever. And i don't care about the music that played. What's that? No, me either. yeah And the music that played when it came out.
01:01:14
Speaker
fucking shit, Paul, children, all children, all the fucking shit. That goddamn chorus. Fucking hilarious, man. Those movies are absolute fucking gold. Every one of them was as good as fuck.
01:01:26
Speaker
Every one I was a little disappointed in Deadpool and Wolverine, but I'm not. ah You know, going to be honest with you. i went into Deadpool and Wolverine expecting to be disappointed.
01:01:41
Speaker
I'm like, because I'm like, well we're three deep. We're milking the cash cow at this point. But and wasn't disappointed at all in any way, shape, or form.
01:01:55
Speaker
I didn't I love the multiverse spin. and And, you know, the music, of course, is always amazing in Deadpool.
01:02:05
Speaker
But all the fourth wall jokes, the fourth wall breaks that he was able to do in that movie regarding Sony, regarding Fox, regarding the X-Men, regarding Wolverine. Fucking...
01:02:25
Speaker
i can Chris Evans as as a human torch, and everybody thought that he was going to be fighting Captain America. That was an outstanding little bonus. He's going to say it.
01:02:40
Speaker
fa about What the shit? But... whoa
01:02:46
Speaker
but You know, that was a movie that has some surprises. And that's another thing. Like when as they get close, I don't watch a lot of the, ah like the spoiler shows and stuff like that. i don't want to be spoiled.
01:02:59
Speaker
I had no idea Juggernaut was going to be in Deadpool two. And I'm happy as hell. I didn't because it was an awesome surprise. Awesome surprise. Yeah. I, I don't watch any, I try to avoid spoilers. I try to avoid critics because here's my thing. As far as like,
01:03:15
Speaker
Movies in general, but especially superhero movies, because I am such a big comic book nerd. I don't go into any movie. I try not to listen to what critics say, because critics, um they will trash anything just just because at the end of the day, drama sells.
01:03:35
Speaker
And that's what they kind of create. And that's, you know, they're getting clicks and they're getting likes and they're getting views by shitting on a really good fucking movie. So I try not to listen to anything anybody says. And I just go into the movie with my own mindset of, all right, i'm I'm excited to see this. I'm going to come up with a conclusion for me if it's good or bad.
01:03:55
Speaker
Because there's some movies out there that I know a lot of people don't like. Green Lantern, for instance. The CGI was bad, but it was a decent movie at the end of the day. um Again, I know a DC movie, but you know if you're talking...
01:04:15
Speaker
mediocre to okay movies in the superhero world, DC has not done a good job. I mean, they've had they've done some good movies, but they're not they not what me as a fan expected or wanted.
01:04:31
Speaker
so Well, the new Superman movie, I went in expecting to hate it. I won't say loved it, but it was a solid movie. It was a fun watch. It was enjoyable.
01:04:45
Speaker
yeah I liked it. I liked Earth whatever. um you know You got to see a goddamn haircut of Green Lantern.
01:04:56
Speaker
I could not with that fucking haircut, but I know it's comic book accurate. and i've bought all the out galls gardener That was a comic accurate guy, Gardner. and Nathan Fillion is fucking great. He's another dude. I just love what he does.
01:05:11
Speaker
yeah he's great I miss Firefly.
01:05:15
Speaker
That should have never been canceled. I don't know if I ever really, I think I've watched a few episodes that. i don't know if I ever really got got and got into it, got into it, but. um Adam Baldwin is great in that.
01:05:26
Speaker
Everybody, at that that's where that Bacheron girl came from. Deadpool's woman. Who is it? Marina Bacheron. Who's she? Marina Bacheron. She started off in that series Firefly.
01:05:39
Speaker
What is she from that I would know her? I don't recognize the name.
01:05:43
Speaker
She is Deadpool's woman. oh Oh, okay. I knew her from Gotham. before she rain a ba him Yeah, I knew her from Gotham. before She went from Firefly and then she was cast as like the yeah the main evil bitch in the V reboot, which was not great.
01:06:05
Speaker
But I did want to see more of it.
01:06:15
Speaker
Brittany, you're lesbian showin.
01:06:22
Speaker
um But... Go ahead. You wanted to talk more about more series, too, in the MCU. And then I shut you down and switched over. to I wanted to hear what you thought about Hawkeye. Love that.
01:06:36
Speaker
You were going to mention a different series, I think. I don't remember if I was going to... I was just... The the the the entirety... because we the What Netflix did with... ah Luke Cage and Iron Fist, Daredevil, Punisher. I enjoyed the Punisher series. Like I said, the only thing that drove me crazy was, and I don't even know how i don't even know how big Barenthal is.
01:07:02
Speaker
What the hell is his first name? Tom. John. J-O-N. The worst way to spell it.
01:07:13
Speaker
Tom, John, whatever. It's all the same.
01:07:20
Speaker
yeah he's i mean Here's what I didn't like about... He's 5'11". 5'1"? He's 5'11". Taller
01:07:30
Speaker
taller than average.
01:07:37
Speaker
Thomas Jane is also I love Thomas Jane as as Punisher.
01:07:45
Speaker
So did I. That was an outstanding movie. Even John Revolting couldn't ruin that movie.
01:07:54
Speaker
Hold on a second. Hold on a second.
01:07:59
Speaker
Yes, I said John Revolting. What did that man do to you? He's great. ah ah
01:08:09
Speaker
and His villains are so similar. They're just not fun. John Travolta, to me, and now I was shocked to see him play a villain in that Punisher movie. yeah That was kind of a twist I didn't expect. Like, oh, damn.
01:08:28
Speaker
You're a villain. um Even though you've kind of seen it in Face Off and whatnot. But this is John Travolta, to me, is kind of like Sylvester Stallone.
01:08:40
Speaker
He's the same in every movie. Just sometimes he's angry and other times he's happy. Other than that, he's the same.
01:08:53
Speaker
The hype talk is about comic accuracy. That's all.
01:08:57
Speaker
That's all. we're talking about comic accuracy. That's all. Comic comparisons. Because Ray Stevenson in Punisher Warzone, Ray Stevenson, another great actor, kind of low-key, kind of underrated,
01:09:12
Speaker
Ray Stevenson's more where you picture the and ah picture the Punisher. He's like 6'3", 6'4". He's a big dude. In the comics, the Punisher was a big guy.
01:09:23
Speaker
Thomas Jane Thomas Jane, even like Jon Barenthal, is kind of a Thomas Jane puts off this persona of, yeah, I believe it.
01:09:38
Speaker
I believe that you could be an unsuspecting absolute badass. Even though you're not 6'4", jacked you know to the limit.
01:09:52
Speaker
yeah That's exactly what she said.
01:09:58
Speaker
But let's be honest. Kevin Nash, knowing the facts behind that and fight as the Russian, Kevin Nash kind of stole that movie, dude, in one scene.
01:10:10
Speaker
yeah Did you know that Thomas Jane really stabbed Kevin Nash in that movie? That's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about. So the prop knife, if you don't know out in then they the real world, the prop knife failed and he stabs Kevin Nash's character in the shoulder.
01:10:26
Speaker
But instead of you know breaking away or whatever, you know you du it went in all the way to the hilt. And if you really watch, you see Thomas Jane's face.
01:10:40
Speaker
I mean, he had no fucking idea that was about to happen. And fucking Kevin Nash didn't break character at all. He smiled at him and just proceeded to go on with the scene. I mean, what the fuck?
01:10:54
Speaker
Kevin Nash, warrior, warrior. What a movie mishap. what a movie mishap wow yeah they just carried on wasn't with vi i mean he didn't give a shit he didn't thomas jane felt super super bad about it but it wasn't his fault you know it was an accident but the fact that they just kept but he just kept on going and yeah i'm sure like they they had to edit something where you know if you accidentally stabbed somebody in a fight scene in a movie like
01:11:25
Speaker
if we're if we're doing a fight scene for a movie and the prop knife fails and I stab you in the in the shoulder, I'm going to be like, oh, shit, I just stabbed Michael. But to just keep filming and go with it, like you know Nash had to be like, no, it's cool. I'm good.
01:11:42
Speaker
It's just a flesh wound. Giant mountain of a man. and As a wrestling fan, I'm a huge Kevin Nash fan. Diesel, Kevin Nash, the Outsiders, NWO, Wolfpack, you know,
01:11:54
Speaker
Kevin Nash can do no wrong. I was a huge Scott Hall fan too. Unfortunately, RIP bad guy
01:12:03
Speaker
guy. But yeah, Kevin Nash was great, and he did. he That was one of those characters that 100% in one scene stole an entire movie.
01:12:15
Speaker
but Again, if you know the backstory. If you don't, it's just another scene, no big deal. yeah Like I said, just watch it. yeah Even if you don't know the backstory, that whole scene with the fight and and the neighbors and and and everything like that, that was a great scene in that movie.
01:12:35
Speaker
It is That came from the comics, sort of. Those neighbors were in the comics, and the dude who polished him off is the same way he ended up dying in the comics, just in a little different way.
01:12:48
Speaker
And I think they do stuff like that just because, I mean, If it happens exactly the way you expect it to happen, you might be satisfied with it. But changing it up a little bit, just as a little surprise, doesn't necessarily ruin anything.
01:13:00
Speaker
As long as it's done well. It's one of those things, like I said, you know, grow it yeah like I'll go back to the Channing Tatum gambit thing. Growing up reading the comic books,
01:13:11
Speaker
And you heard Gambit in the X-Men cartoon series and stuff like that. But growing up, even when you read books, you you when you're reading a book and they introduce a character or a character in a book, you envision them in your head, sounding a certain way, you know coming across a certain way.
01:13:29
Speaker
So when they do that in the movies and and they they kind of go you know frame by frame to to an exact... It's like, this is exactly how...
01:13:41
Speaker
you know As I'm reading it, I envisioned it. you know So to add that, just that little twist, like you said, I agree with you. Just just a little, just nothing nothing major, just a little little twist.
01:13:53
Speaker
it's it's It's fulfilling as as a fan to see it in live action. I think that's one thing that the MCU has done very well. It has been very fulfilling as a fan of the comics growing up. As comic book readers across the world,
01:14:11
Speaker
MCU is very fulfilling. They have given us everything we hope for and expected and hopefully they'll continue to do so.
01:14:24
Speaker
I don't know. I know a lot of people are skeptical, hesitant with the new phase as we're dipping our toes into and and getting glimpses of.
01:14:38
Speaker
So we'll have to kind of Well, again, I went into Fantastic Four with a lot of high hopes. Just because it was so well-received in test screenings and things, that I kind of kept up with. I was like, okay, maybe I won't hate it.
01:14:51
Speaker
I liked the trailer with iconic, accurate Galactus, finally. Yeah. Dude, Smoke Monster Galactus. Lame! Lame!
01:15:03
Speaker
Wait, didn't they do that in Lost? Oh, spoiler alert. Sorry, Lost fans. If you haven't seen it, it's been like 15 years. I won't go so far as to say it was trash. I just i didn't love it.
01:15:15
Speaker
I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. i think I think this is the downfall for Fantastic Four, and it was kind of a little bit the downfall for the Incredible Hulk movies until we got Eric Bannon. Now, I loved...
01:15:29
Speaker
Ed Norton as the Hulk. Unfortunately, Ed Norton had his head shoved up his ass and you know and and he will never be Hulk again. Maybe.
01:15:40
Speaker
I don't know. I won't say never because it's multiverse time. never yeah i mean We've seen Nicolas Cage as Superman in DC. so yeah Never thought we'd see that.
01:15:52
Speaker
but um I think the Fantastic Four has done three different versions three different variations of the fantastic four and i haven't seen the newest one yet but they haven't really lived up to their hype or their potential i like the the the second one with wyatt teller and um when they were younger like high school i i like that one um a little bit more than i like the original two
01:16:24
Speaker
I thought what the original two did was cool, introducing in the second one, introducing Silver Surfer. But much like the Red Skull, you just were like, here you go, baby birdies. It's just a sample because we're not going to give you any more.
01:16:39
Speaker
Just a taste. Silver Surfer wasn't in the Wyatt Teller. No, he was in the first two. That's what I'm saying. like in the first two i The Wyatt Teller one, I like that one a little bit better than the first two. But the first two just kind of like the Red Skull. They just, here you go.
01:16:57
Speaker
We know you want it. So we're going you just a little bit. Well, the D-Rail for me in the first Fantastic Four with Ian Graffoud played him. And who was the who was the chick? ah Shit, I can't think of her name now.
01:17:14
Speaker
What is her damn name?
01:17:17
Speaker
Great looking. And Chris Evans. Chris Evans is outstanding. And I thought that well Ben Grimm was a good cast. I just wish they didn't do the suit because, again, Ben Grimm's another one.
01:17:28
Speaker
He's like Juggernaut size. He's like Hulk size. He's so gigantic. Yeah. I mean, he's like in the comics, he's one of the few characters, Juggernaut being one of them, that can stand literally face-to-face, nose-to-nose with the Hulk.
01:17:46
Speaker
You know what mean? in size ways I mean it's like You made Ben Graham and it was basically like you put rocks on me i here yes one everywhere Not choosing to go CGI was okay with me I guess but just don't know this the suit just didn't Didn't give him enough larger-than-life presence like it was supposed to be like you and Blake exactly human blade but let's go Let's go to the Sony Spider-Verse now.
01:18:19
Speaker
And some my complaints about that, like Venom. Venom is three times Spider-Man's size. I hated the casting of ah Eric Foreman.
01:18:33
Speaker
Topher Grace. Topher Grace. I hated that casting as Venom. He's not Eddie Brock, dude. I hated everything about that casting of Topher Grace as because Eddie Brock...
01:18:46
Speaker
Was, as Brittany likes to say, she calls me a meathead. He was a jock. He was your stereotypical jock. Big old meathead. Big old dude.
01:18:58
Speaker
And then little scrawny, nerdy-ass fucking Eric Foreman from that 70s show. you're supposed to I'm supposed to believe that he's Eddie Brock? Get the hell out of here.
01:19:11
Speaker
And the way they played him Weasley. He wasn't weaselly. I mean, yeah, he did shady shit, but he wasn't weaselly about it. Yeah. like That's been his big screen performance thus far, right?
01:19:23
Speaker
I can only think of him in two movies on the big screen. That's Spider-Man that he fucked up with Venom. And that was ah ah pret Predators? The Predator. No.
01:19:34
Speaker
yep The one with... ah Wait. but They all landed there and had to get He was in a Predator movie, dude. With Adrian and Paul? The one whether is more when where they wake up, they wake up, three fallen, and then they land, and then they
Discussion on 'Predators' Movie
01:19:52
Speaker
all get together. There was a Russian Spetsnaz dude.
01:19:54
Speaker
There was Topher Grace. He was like a serial killer.
01:19:59
Speaker
and The original the original ah girl for mom from the Predator movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger was there. Yeah, I didn't know Topher Grace was in that movie.
01:20:12
Speaker
Did he die quick? That's the one where that's one where like toward the end they find Lawrence Fishburne. He'd been alive there for a couple of years or whatever. Yeah, and the girl... Spoiler alert if you haven't seen it. Not that based off of what we're talking about, you know which Predator movie. It's the one where the girl is the only survivor at the end, right? And she forms an alliance. Are you talking about Aliens vs.
01:20:37
Speaker
No. That was Alien vs. Predator Requiem. The movie I'm talking about was called Predators with ah with an S at the end. Predators. They all wake up. They're falling.
01:20:49
Speaker
Being dropped onto this planet. And then they get hunted.
01:20:58
Speaker
can't think of the dude's name who stars in that. so He was the one. AJ Brody, Walton Goggins. Asian Brody, that's it. Yeah, and Water Goggins, yeah, he was an asshole criminal. Getting Traders in it, Lawrence Fishburne.
01:21:13
Speaker
Yeah, yeah don true that's right. Oh, wow, Derek
Topher Grace Name Rant
01:21:17
Speaker
Mears is in that. But yeah, Topher Grace was in that, and that's the only other movie I can think I've ever seen him in, in a movie movie that I can recall, and he's a weasel in that too.
01:21:32
Speaker
First and foremost, I'm just pissed off that his parents named him Topher Grace. Motherfucker, just finish it. Just just complete it It's Christopher. It's not Topher, you douche. You pompous prick.
01:21:47
Speaker
A buddy of mine from university, his name was Christopher, he went by Topher, and we loved him. Toffee was the best. Fucking... I mean, according to his filmology here. He's been in a ton of stuff, but... What else has he been in? I can't think any the movies.
01:22:07
Speaker
He's been in like... He was in... ah He was in Traffic, apparently. American Ultra.
01:22:20
Speaker
don't remember that. well Tonight was a good one. He was this he was the he was the lead role in Take Me Home Tonight. That was a good movie. That had Anna Faris in it and Dan Fulger and Chris Pratt was in it.
01:22:34
Speaker
And Michelle Trachtenberg.
01:22:40
Speaker
That was a good movie. It was like an 80s fun party movie. um
Spider-Man Villains and Venom Discussion
01:22:54
Speaker
Again, I like Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. I liked Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man.
01:23:06
Speaker
ah Oh, man. What's his name that played Green Goblin? um nothing Willem Dafoe. Oh, yeah.
01:23:17
Speaker
Oh, okay. Great Green Goblin. Doc Ock was great.
01:23:24
Speaker
Oh, yeah, man. Yeah, and the villain, like, Sandman was just meh. I like the actor who played Sandman, but it was meh. Comic book accurate. ah But then they had, like, Jamie Foxx was good as Electro, I guess, at the end of the day. Andrew Garfield.
01:23:45
Speaker
But I feel like so much potential with villains, and you start with the Tobey Maguire. And you have... and you have
01:23:59
Speaker
Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin. And he killed it. He kills it in everything he's in at the end of the day. But I feel like the villains kind of started to go downhill. Like you said, Topher Grace is fucking Venom.
01:24:16
Speaker
Are you serious right now? And
01:24:20
Speaker
and Now, however, I did like black suit Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire seeing him. kind of yeah I don't know why. It just made me laugh. And it made me made me laugh way too hard when he when he when when he was infected with the symbiote and dancing and just like, to yeah, yeah you're not you're not cool guy. You're Tobey Maguire, bro. You're not cool guy. You're not cool guy. You'll never be cool guy. You look like a fucking nerd.
01:24:51
Speaker
the way he switched up his hair and stuff but see that wasn't that was another part i kind of didn't care for it it's like peter parker himself didn't change like that he just realized that
Venom's Character Analysis
01:25:02
Speaker
he was starting to lose control and become a little more you know aggressive and shit and he realized it was the uh symbiote doing it and he was like going out doing Spider-Man shit in his sleep, the suit was just glomming on and taking him for a ride, you know?
01:25:18
Speaker
That stuff was kind of wild. And they soared attached on that, but it was such a small part of it. It was a small part of it, but you see in the Venom movies that with Tom Hardy, and I'm only bringing this up and we can talk about those if you'd like to, but
01:25:40
Speaker
You see that Venom and and and and Tom Hardy's Brock are two different individuals. And when Venom wants to take over, Venom's going to take over, and there's not a whole lot Eddie can do about it.
01:25:54
Speaker
And that that's what happened, like you said, with Spider-Man. When Venom wanted to take over and do whatever the fuck Venom wanted to do, unfortunately, Peter Parker was the host, and he was his puppet, so to say. And he did whatever he wanted.
01:26:09
Speaker
And I wanted more of that. I agree with you. I wanted more of that. I wanted to see more of Venom taking control and doing what they do. Because there is a there is there is a point where Venom, Spider-Man, Peter Parker, they they do work together.
01:26:27
Speaker
you know as as a whole in the comics and stuff like that. But yeah, you't you just got to see a very small snippet of of of the symbiote taking control of Tobey Maguire's. I don't know. I've heard some rumblings and I've heard some rumors that supposedly the MCU Spider-Man and the Tom Hardy Venoms are crossing over somehow, some way, and we might get to see a Tom Holland black suit, and I'm down for it
01:26:58
Speaker
I want to see it. I just want to see it done the way it's supposed to be done. That was a Secret Wars thing. Yeah, and I think they will, and I think we're going to love it.
01:27:09
Speaker
Mainly because Tom Holland's been my favorite Spider-Man, and we've got to see all... You've got to see Spider-Man. You've got to see the Iron Spider-Man. like You get to see all the cool Spider-Man suits.
01:27:23
Speaker
And you still get to... it and And you still got that initial Spider-Man movie. you know um The thing I like about the Tom Holland Spider-Man is it's a really good
Character and Alter Ego Distinction in Marvel
01:27:36
Speaker
blend. He's he's excellent as Peter Parker and as Spider-Man.
01:27:42
Speaker
Well, and I think that's what I think that's what Marvel has done so great in their movies is that you now, I mean, with the exception of of Tony Stark. Tony Stark and Iron Man are essentially one.
01:28:00
Speaker
There's not a whole lot of separation between the two of them because of Tony Stark's personality. But like Steve Rogers is Steve Rogers and Captain America is Captain America.
01:28:12
Speaker
Scott Lang is Scott Lang. Ant-Man is Ant-Man. You know, you you you see their two personalities separately. Kind of like the way and and and this is for me, why he will always be the best Batman. Keaton.
01:28:29
Speaker
Because Keaton played Bruce Wayne and he played Batman. He separated. And Christian Bale will always be the worst Batman because he was just some drunk buffoon yelling at the director and the cast and and the crew because Christian Bale's a piece of shit.
01:28:46
Speaker
Christian Bale is my mom, thanks for this. yeah The MCU has done a real good job of separating the the person and the superhero.
01:29:00
Speaker
And two different characters. Because you get to see both sides. You get to see, you know, like like Tom Holland. You get to see Peter Parker be Peter Parker. Doing the high school stuff.
01:29:11
Speaker
Going to dances. But also at the same time, well, I also have to be Spider-Man. And I have to save my friends. But my friends can't know that I'm saving them. you know Or I'm going to go to the dance with this girl. And her dad is also Vulture. and Now I got to go kick with, again, Keaton. Shout out to Keaton, who played Vulture.
01:29:31
Speaker
MCU, whoever the power is to be, if you're listening, give us a Sinister Six. Please, for the love of God, give us a decent. Give it to us.
01:29:42
Speaker
white Right, right, right.
01:29:47
Speaker
I think now that they're in the MCU, unless for some reason... See, I don't understand. With Sony being owned now by Disney, what does the rights have anything to do with it?
01:29:59
Speaker
I don't understand that. It i doesn't. i think it's now I think now it's a matter of... And they did a great job with the what the the the the Spider-Man movie where they had Garfield, Maguire, and Holland all in one movie.
01:30:16
Speaker
It's a matter of introducing characters so that you can merge them into, because I'm sorry, i want Willem Dafoe to come back as Green Goblin.
01:30:27
Speaker
And I want the guy, and I can't think of his name, who played Doc Ock to come back as Doc Ock. And I want Keaton to come back as as Vulture, you know, if you're going to do a Sinister Six.
01:30:40
Speaker
So you you now you have to reintroduce these characters into bmc the quote-unquote MCU because were they all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before? Yes.
01:30:55
Speaker
But Sony and Fox did these movies. Disney did these movies. Now we're, and I think it's the cool thing with the multiverse and this new phase, we're going to get to see the X-Men introduced into the MCU. u What is the MCU going to do with the X-Men? That's what they're calling the soft reboot.
01:31:17
Speaker
Yeah. What are they going to do? Are we going to get to see a more comic? we've seen it with Wolverine. Everybody's wanted it for years. We've wanted it for a million years. We want the blue and yellow suit.
01:31:31
Speaker
And Ryan Reynolds gave it to us in Deadpool and Wolverine. And it didn't disappoint at the end of the day. It did not disappoint. It was cool. um It was a fun watch.
01:31:47
Speaker
Sometimes you want you know just the simplest things, like comic comic book accurate um costumes. and and and marvel and And Disney and Marvel have done a really good job with that in the Avengers. yeah you you You get to see the originals and then they tweak them to make them more modern. Because obviously we all know what the old school Iron Man looked like. It was garbage. like Really? This guy? It looks like a
01:32:18
Speaker
It looks like a Timu version of Bender from Futurama. yes yeah yeah The Mark 1 suit was pretty lame.
01:32:30
Speaker
Yeah, the Mark 1 was fucking lame. But they're like, yeah, but we're also going show y you all, we're going to give you all the goodies and we're going to dress them up and make them nice, but you're still going to get your, you know, what what you comic book nerds and what and I'll lump myself into that as a comic book nerd, I want to see,
01:32:52
Speaker
ah you know, the authentic looks. You know, I grew up reading these comics and seeing these superheroes a certain type of way. just Just give me something. Give me a little bit.
01:33:05
Speaker
You know, and I think that Iron Man's done it. Captain America's done it. Thor's done it. We've got to see different versions in every new movie of their suits. I mean, Iron Man did it with...
01:33:17
Speaker
Mark 775. I mean, you had gotten glimpses of a fucking massive chunk of of the Iron Man suits in Iron Man 3 when they all kind of showed up at the port and for backup, and you got to see all the different suits, and it was cool.
01:33:40
Speaker
Yeah. The yeah but Iron Legion or whatever. Yeah. That's like comic book fan's wet dream. When you get to see authenticity and like
01:33:53
Speaker
the comic book accurate suits. And I say that as as a comic book fan, it is. would don't judge Don't judge me. Yes, I'm a nerd. Don't judge me. when i get she's I'm getting a look. I think it's the first time I've seen her smile since we got got got back down here.
01:34:11
Speaker
I'm a nerd. and yeah It's like who Wolverine's in the blue and yellow. you know oh my god, that's a that's a Captain America from the fucking 1940s comic book. and Whatever. why I know you're judging me. I don't care. Judge away. Let your free flag fly.
01:34:32
Speaker
I think we even got to see a glimpse of fucking Hawkeye, stupid ass. I'm sorry.
01:34:39
Speaker
We said it earlier about Jubilee, and I'm not just going to just i'm not just goingnna leave Jubilee on this island all to herself. Did Jeremy Renner make Hawkeye cool? Yes. Was Hawkeye cool in the comics? No.
01:34:53
Speaker
I'm shooting arrows. You got a stupid mask on, you got a stupid outfit, and you're shooting arrows. Shout out to Jeremy Renner for making Hawkeye cool. Because he made Hawkeye a badass. I like him in the movies. I like Jeremy Renner. I thought Jeremy Renner was great. I think he's great in everything he does. I mean, even like there's a movie out there called called Tag. Have you ever seen that?
01:35:17
Speaker
It's like a group of buddies have been playing this game of tag since elementary school. oh And they've never been able to tag Jeremy Renner's character. So it's like that's their whole goal throughout the movie. And he's such a badass in the movie. Yeah.
01:35:32
Speaker
um But I like Jeremy Renner. I think Oldboy's been a snowmobile and basically got his body cut in half and now he's fine and still doing Marvel movies. so
01:35:44
Speaker
Yeah, last year I think it was. Yeah, that was my freak accident. The year before, I think. Right at the of 23. Was it 23? I thought it was the end of last year.
01:35:56
Speaker
I think so, right at the end. It wintertime. It was wintertime, I know that. It was wintertime. But no, yeah, Jeremy Renner made Hawkeye badass, but I think we've gotten one of the movies. We've gotten just a, just, well like, they might have showed it in passing, the stupid Hawkeye mask.
01:36:12
Speaker
I don't think he ever wore it, but we got to see it somewhere. don't see it. don't really see it. think it might have been, like, a S.H.I.E.L.D. file. Maybe it was, like, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or something. But we got to see just a sample. what That's all we needed, of that costume, because that was a terrible costume.
01:36:27
Speaker
Sexually. Right, right, right. Agreed.
01:36:33
Speaker
Fucking terrible. And he was about fucking worthless.
01:36:39
Speaker
So let me ask you this. What's been your biggest disappointment in the MCU so far?
01:36:47
Speaker
Are we talking the entire MCU or just the Disney MCU? but The MCU in its entirety. What's your personal biggest disappointment? I'm
01:37:03
Speaker
going to say probably the first Incredible Hulk movie. It's just trash. Before Edward Norris. Eric Bana.
01:37:16
Speaker
Yeah, Eric Bana. Eric Bana. Just, I was excited again being, you know, always being like the big guy, the big guy,
01:37:27
Speaker
big guy in real life and just being like that guy. I've always been a fan of Hulk and and I was so excited for that movie and it was just a huge fucking letdown. It was so bad.
01:37:40
Speaker
i can't I can't think of anything.
01:37:44
Speaker
Ang Lee directed it and that's what happens when the guy who does Brokeback Mountain does a Hulk movie. Yeah.
01:37:55
Speaker
That's a great movie, by the way. Brokeback Mountain is one of my favorites.
01:38:00
Speaker
you know So I've heard. I've never seen it. I don't really count that one in the MCU. I don't count that one in the MCU. Was it supposed to be part it?
01:38:13
Speaker
I mean, it's ah it's a Marvel movie. it's not But Ed Norton's Incredible Hulk is not a part of the technically a part of the MCU. Yeah. Deadpool. That one had Stanley Kornier win at those, so I'm counting that one.
01:38:28
Speaker
But i I really like that one. i get i you know so i Man, I'm going to go MCU. I'm going to go Disney MCU. you
01:38:40
Speaker
One that disappointed me.
01:38:47
Speaker
I'm going to say only because i i and i have any I don't think I'll ever finish this movie. ah Captain Marvel.
01:38:57
Speaker
I started it. I got about a half hour into it. and Aside from her personal beliefs and her complete feminazi mentality and everything like that, it was just not good movie. and i and I tried. Like I said, I got about 30 minutes into it. I'm like, I am not sitting here for the next two hours finishing this movie.
01:39:20
Speaker
It's just not good. I watched the whole thing. i watched the whole thing but i wasn't disappointed in it because i wasn't expecting anything out of it again apart from the games like uh marvel uh uh now can't of what it was called marvel ultimate marvel ultimate
01:39:45
Speaker
uh ultimate champions anyway maybe there was two there was two of them there was part one and part two you could have a four-man team love those games and that kind of got me into captain marvel just because she was such a badass she was great to have in pretty much any four-person group she was outstanding to have but it's like I don't know anything about that character really at all.
01:40:12
Speaker
don't know the backstory. I never got into the story, but I had no, no preconceived notions. I didn't expect to love it because I didn't know the character anyway. the character For me, and probably the biggest. is the proposal Go ahead. going to say the character, Ms. Marvel in general, they really dumbed down for the MCU because she is one of the few,
01:40:35
Speaker
um Marvel characters that are out there that could single-handedly like take down Thanos or Galactus or These big bad guys that it takes an entire multiple teams to to defeat in the comics She's one of the few characters that could single-handedly take him down And they really kind of dumbed her down for the movies Because she was so strong and
01:41:03
Speaker
Well, same thing with the dude they brought in in Thunderbolts yeah century The void and... Sentry, yeah. He went toe-to-toe with the fucking Hulk.
01:41:15
Speaker
Sentry is the only... Sentry is the only Hulk fears. Because he saw the void and like the void fucked him up.
01:41:27
Speaker
Yeah, it did. Yeah, it did. Yeah, it did.
01:41:33
Speaker
um you know Now that we're talking... I've got to go with that. Now that wrote well what were what what what what What movie disappointed you the most?
01:41:45
Speaker
Thor Dark... Thor, which one? The second Thor. Ragnarok? was the second one, Dark World. Oh, yeah. Dark World. forgot about that. Oh, yeah, that was... I forgot about that one. Not a good movie. Why?
01:42:06
Speaker
It wasn't a good movie. and that I don't know. the it's just ah The story was weak. The acting wasn't great. It was Chris Hemsworth's worst appearance as Thor, in my opinion. He just wasn't the same kind of a Thor.
01:42:20
Speaker
like People can say what they want. Ragnarok was fucking awesome. I love that movie. Love and Thunder was awesome. and I wouldn't say awesome, but I didn't hate it.
01:42:32
Speaker
Some people hated it. My favorite part of Love and Thunder, my favorite part was the ghost. yeah I love the ghost. Somebody told me, and I don't know if it's true. I need to fact check it.
01:42:47
Speaker
But somebody said the little girl, Thunder, or Love, that's his actual daughter. That is true. That's his daughter. Yeah, that's his daughter. Yes, it's true. I found that out and I was like, this is my daughter. Yeah.
01:43:01
Speaker
Yeah, made me like that much more. Yeah. Okay, so I'm going to throw these two movies up against each other, and I'm going ask you, this is more of a Tuesday night question, but I'm going to throw these two franchises up against each other.
01:43:15
Speaker
Guardians of the Galaxy or Thor? Who had the better soundtrack?
01:43:22
Speaker
Well, soundtrack, Guardians of Galaxy, by far.
01:43:27
Speaker
The only reason I would give Thor franchise a slight edge was because up until Love and Thunder, when you heard Zeppelin kick in even in the Avengers movies, if you heard Zeppelin kick in you knew Thor was about to fuck some shit up with no questions asked. Like, he was just gonna, ah like like back in the day, Stone Cold, arrive, kick ass, leave.
01:44:00
Speaker
That's what he was like. Homeboy was going to any Zeppelin song kicked on all shit. Thor's about to fucking beat somebody. Everybody's ass. It don't matter if you're a good guy, bad guy. If you get in Thor's way, he's fucking you.
01:44:13
Speaker
I would give it that slight edge because you knew that excitement was going like, it was kind of like top gun. When you heard danger zone, you knew something good was going to happen. It was just like, you're like, hell yeah. is umed But as far as overall,
01:44:27
Speaker
Yeah, Guardians the Galaxy, much better soundtrack throughout all three movies, even their Christmas movie that they did, which was super cute and really fun to watch. I didn't watch it.
01:44:40
Speaker
it's it's ah's It's a fun Christmas movie with with the main characters. I never would have thought that they could have bring up could have brought them together and do this hour, hour and a half, a little short, whatever.
01:44:53
Speaker
and And it was fun. And in characters like Mantis and Drax learn about Christmas. a And they're both so goddamn dumb and lovable. And they're like, you know, it was good. But yeah, across the board, you know, music wise, definitely Guardians. But, you know, i like I said, Thor, you knew when Zeppelin kicked in or in Love and Thunder, they did a lot of Guns n and Roses that all hell was about to break loose.
01:45:22
Speaker
Where'd get pizza from? Yeah, just a total fucking banger after banger after banger, though, with those mixtapes in Guardians, man.
01:45:35
Speaker
We were talking earlier, and i and and it just dawned on me. I think one of my most surprising and turned out to be one of my most favorite characters as this character progressed was and you got to see more of was Scarlet Witch.
01:46:02
Speaker
I think it was great casting. Definitely the hotter of the Olsen sisters.
Scarlet Witch's Character Development
01:46:09
Speaker
And I think she absolutely killed that character from from the introduction all the way to the last time.
01:46:17
Speaker
i don't think it's the last time we've seen her. But the last time we've seen her. I hope not because she's still got more of an arc. I sure hope that's not the last time we've seen her. Yeah, her arc is outstanding.
01:46:30
Speaker
Yeah, I knew a little bit about kind of knew who she was, what she was about, and how powerful she was. But the MCU did a really good job of developing her and just turning her into kind of a a side character into a main character.
01:46:51
Speaker
I just don't like how, because of the licensing and everything, they couldn't give her like the Magneto thing and all that. you know and and we might And we might get to see that, because you did get to see Homeboy from X-Men in WandaVision.
01:47:11
Speaker
you and ah And they even played on that. and they even And they even played on that and did a little fourth wall break. With him coming in and and and and and being her brother in WandaVision. As opposed to the yeah the kid from Kick-Ass. Who is now... That dude went from Kick-Ass to Quicksilver to now he's Kraven.
01:47:36
Speaker
What did you think of the Kraven movie? I haven't seen it. Is it worth watching?
01:47:43
Speaker
It's worth watching. did not love it. i i I think it's going one of those movies where like if I'm ever... It might be something I put on this week before you come back home.
01:47:56
Speaker
and Just because I'll put it on and I'm the only one home and I'm not doing anything. It's kind of like the second Aquaman movie. I want to watch it. I haven't watched it yet. But it's like, I can throw it on and if it's terrible, I can do other shit around the house while it's on in the background.
01:48:13
Speaker
Not as good as the first one. Oh, you watched it? Yeah, I watched it. Of course it agrees. yeah Jason Momoa is in it. as good as the first one. I agree totally.
01:48:25
Speaker
Yeah. I figured as much. I mean, the movie is in it. But it's also one of those Catch-22s because I like Patrick Wilson. And he he plays Aquaman's brother. yeah Like him. I like Jason Momoa, too.
01:48:42
Speaker
Again, not not Marvel. Can we get Jason Momoa as Lobo for the love of God? wolves Tell me about that shit. That would be grand.
01:48:54
Speaker
He would be better. It would be fuck Aquaman. Fuck Aquaman. Give me Jason Momoa as Lobo. That would be Lobo is is like is like DC's version of Deadpool but like a million times more badass.
01:49:14
Speaker
Oh yeah. um he's he's he's cocky, he's arrogant, but he's... one of more red poolol me Deadpool meets fucking ah Punisher Mora, I would say.
01:49:28
Speaker
Yeah, but like he like Lobo is one of those characters. Yeah, his strength rivals Superman. His regeneration would make Deadpool and Wolverine look like they can't regenerate. I mean, like Lobo is like one of the most off the wall characters that has all the best features of every superhero and no, no real weakness.
01:49:58
Speaker
I mean, it's hard to defeat this cat. I think only a couple of people have, I don't think they've actually defeated him as much as they've just slowed them down just a little bit.
01:50:09
Speaker
Yeah. loaded them yeah What's that? The intergalactic bounty hunter. And just like you thought, the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo is just a terrific character. i'd love to see him in live action. That'd be great.
01:50:23
Speaker
But like you said about, um,
01:50:28
Speaker
uh, you said, uh, fuck who, who made somebody, you said somebody made somebody cool. Uh, help me out. Huh? ma hawk i Jeremy Renner made Hawkeye cool. Jeremy Renner made Hawkeye cool.
01:50:44
Speaker
Jason Momoa made Aquaman cool. Oh, yeah. Because Aquaman, bleach blonde hair, red and green jumpsuit with gills.
01:50:55
Speaker
Oh, you can talk to fish. Orange and green. Exactly. the names The lamest Justice League character ever. but in the comic But in the comics, man, like, yeah, he still looked like a fucking douche canoe.
01:51:11
Speaker
But he wasn't as lame as they made him in, like, Super Friends in the cartoons and shit like that, because he is like he has super strength. He is very strong.
01:51:23
Speaker
Yes, he swims very bad. Yes, he talks to fish, whatever. Which could be cool. I mean, could you imagine being able to control an army of fucking sharks? Like, That'd be dope. As long as your person you were trying to fight was in the water. It's not going to do you much good if they're on land. but wont win But still, but he was super strong. um you know He had other powers, which the Aquaman movies did show us. And Jason Momoa did 100% make Aquaman pretty fucking cool.
01:51:56
Speaker
I mean. Yeah. However, in the same sense, They also made The Flash really fucking lame. I'm talking to you, Ezra, or whatever your fucking name is.
01:52:08
Speaker
Wow. Can we do another movie night? The kid that plays The Flash on the series? That kid that plays The Flash in the series is way better.
01:52:21
Speaker
Garrett Wilson. Or not Garrett Wilson. What the hell is his name? But yes, I agree. and the five year We need to do a DC night.
Disappointment in Some DC and MCU Films
01:52:34
Speaker
I'm in. I'm in. i don't think we're done with this conversation. i mean We know you can do this two, maybe three more times. I'm down. don't read this Don't be busy next Friday and we'll do it again because Monday is my birthday.
01:52:49
Speaker
I'd love to do that. Next Friday we are busy. We're bringing the kids to the next weekend. Right? Next Friday we are. Yeah.
01:53:01
Speaker
Yeah. We're going to bring the kids and introduce them to the fam. Things are getting serious. ah source of source But yeah we'll see what's going on. But yeah, I'm down to i'm down to talk more MCU.
01:53:21
Speaker
I'm down to ah well what would love to talk DC because I grew up more of a DC fan. And I'm very I've enjoyed the DC movies, but I'm also really disappointed in the DC movies.
01:53:35
Speaker
DC has a much better animated universe. Like Marvel's animated stuff, I don't think is anywhere near as good as DC's. DC has a much better animated.
01:53:47
Speaker
Yes, because they get very dark in the animations.
01:53:52
Speaker
DC also has a really good um television series reputation. with Arrow, Flash, even Smallville. Up until the last season, Smallville was phenomenal.
01:54:07
Speaker
um Supergirl was, eh. But like Peacemaker and Gotham and Birds of Prey, Teen Titans, um like they've done some live action TV series for DC that are, and I'm like, dude, he's great.
01:54:27
Speaker
fucking television series. And then you give us what everybody wants. Batman versus Superman. And again, not MCU and I'm on a tent and and Batman's getting ready to kill Superman.
01:54:39
Speaker
And he says, tell Martha I love her. And Batman goes, what? What did you say? I'm like, are you serious right now? And then fucking Judgment Day shows up out of fucking nowhere. Wonder Woman shows up out of nowhere where and I'm like,
01:54:57
Speaker
Oh, my God. He even Judgment Day right because he fucking killed Superman and doesn't even kill Superman. Oh, my God. yeah That's a whole other tangent. It's not Judgment Day. Dude's name is ah not Judgment Day.
01:55:14
Speaker
It's um something different. yes It's Judgment Day. used to know, and I should have. Yeah, I don't know. I have the the book at home. So they introduced all the comics and parts, but I have the actual book that starts from beginning to end where Superman is resurrected. Spoiler alert, Superman doesn't stay dead, obviously. But DC is a whole other tangent I can go on because I i was more ah DC comic. Doomsday.
01:55:49
Speaker
Yeah, Doomsday. Yeah, there it is. Yeah, either way, it's just, wow. Speaking of Doomsday, bringing it back full circle, are you excited for Doomsday?
01:56:09
Speaker
Doomsday, the movie, Avengers Doomsday. I haven't heard anything about it. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah ah Yes. i mean yeah no no no No, no, no, no, no. Yes, yes, yes.
01:56:22
Speaker
I am excited to see Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. and
01:56:28
Speaker
Well, we grab more favor again, Russo Brothers, I'm super hopeful, but they have fucked up Doctor Doom every time they touch him in the movies.
01:56:40
Speaker
Yes. So, apprehensive. But the Fantastic Four, as we said earlier, not the greatest track record. Four movies deep, and each one of them We could pick apart. We could do an entire show just on those four movies and pick them apart and not say anything good about them. My only real complaint with the original phase-out before was the way they did Doom. It was just not Doom at all.
01:57:09
Speaker
The Nick Tuck guy is not the Doom I grew up with. a Yeah, exactly. Go back to banging whores and doing plastics here.
01:57:26
Speaker
But um umm go to put a I'm going to put a pin in this conversation. We've we've hit a lot of topics. we we stayed i think this might be the show I've stayed on topic more than any other show.
01:57:36
Speaker
And with you on board, it kind of freaks me out. I think we've done a fantastic job. even My little little detours, we still we still bring it we still bring it right back yes It was a great time talking with him, man. I love talking comics and comic book movies all day, every day.
01:57:56
Speaker
That is one of my favorite things to talk about. And there's so much more still to discuss. Yeah, and we definitely... But again, I said we still have a similar show. We definitely need to to do some more MCU talk. We definitely need to slide into the DCU.
01:58:12
Speaker
And like I said, we don't get to do it very often, man. But i you and I have great conversations when we when we do shows together. Whether it be music, whether it be movies, whether it be Saturday nights. You know, you and I usually have a lot of fun together. Thanks, buddy.
01:58:29
Speaker
Yeah. So far, every time it's been fun. So far. So Real quick, talking about doing shows together. New Year's Eve, y'all. New Year's Eve, y'all.
01:58:42
Speaker
Come on out. It's going to be a banger. I'm hosting. got Brittany coming in as a special guest. I got Tyler Snodgrass coming in a feature. I got the World Series of Comedy winner, the champion of the World Series of Comedy, coming out to headline our show New Year's Eve.
Promotion of New Year's Eve Comedy Show
01:59:01
Speaker
Tickets are on sale right now. cashak ah Cash App. Dollar sign. Mike. M-I-K-E. Copenhaver. not spelling it. You'll figure it out.
01:59:17
Speaker
ah Why don't you put that in the banners? Like put New Year's Eve tickets in your cash apps. That's a great idea. i will do that. I will make a banner. Good call.
01:59:30
Speaker
Yeah. Didn't think of that. Not very bright. I got you. Not only only that. Thanks to Tony. Anything? What's that? I was going to say, not only do we have four From what I've heard, I'm not going to vouch for them yet, but what for what I heard, pretty mediocre-ish comedians. But Michael and Brittany, and I don't know anybody else is going to partake of this, but we will be broadcasting live after their comedy set for an official.
02:00:07
Speaker
We've tried to do this a few times on the network. I'm like i'm very excited for this. and Everybody thinks I'm scared of it and I'm not scared of it. I've asked for it for years, but it's going happen. i don't think so. broadcast it live on the network uh there's gonna be a roast of of glick myself michael britney and i don't know if snotty and uh the other gentlemen are gonna partake in the roast um probably not but rob will um i will probably not get out of my eye i might grab a microphone for a little bit uh at the end of the night um but i don't need to roast these guys because
02:00:41
Speaker
I want to be roasted because I get the pleasure of roasting these guys and everybody else, all of our friends, every Saturday night.
02:00:49
Speaker
I want to be on the flip side. I've got a distinction between you. I've got the distinction, though. I'm the only one that clapped you so hard on a show you had to walk away and gather your thoughts and come back.
02:01:00
Speaker
You did get me. so i'm excited to I'm excited to be roasted. So, yes, I will be there. Kayla will be there. Not only are tickets on sale, but as Michael said earlier, there are meet and greets. Obviously, you guys can, most importantly, you can meet me. You can hang out with me. I would have probably have already hung out with most of you guys throughout the night for free.
02:01:22
Speaker
But now you can back yeah ill also go ahead and add a caveat. If you want to take your picture with me, it will be a hundred dollars cash per picture. So don't think you're gonna pay a hundred dollars and get multiple pictures. No, it's per picture. I'm a big deal. I hate to break it to you.
02:01:37
Speaker
But ah no, I'm excited for New Year's Eve, man. i' I'm really excited. I think it's going to be a fun night. I think Kayla's excited. She's going to be looking hot as hell.
02:01:48
Speaker
um And I'm going to be Jeans and boots and button-up T-shirt. I might wear a cowboy hat. But I am going to bring out my... It doesn't get to make a lot of appearances, but I figure this is the night that I got to have the belt all night.
02:02:08
Speaker
So I'm going to bring my belt with me. It doesn't make a lot of appearances. i My studio at home, but I got to have it New Year's Eve. So I think it's going to be a really fun night.
02:02:22

But I don't have a hand, and I don't have a ship. So I can't build you a house, but you can't take the strength.

I will never have a poet's name. Never will I have your fingers ring. I will not write your verse, nor will I moralize your face.
02:04:42
Speaker
And also, you almost certainly may.
