Introduction to the Daily Arsenal Podcast

00:00:01
Speaker
Every club. Every day. The Global Sports Podcast Network. a Hello and welcome to the Daily Arsenal Podcast. Brought to you as part of the Global Sports Podcast Network. I'm Josh Vince. We've got Josh Duncan and Craig Matthews. My god, boys. My god.

Disappointing Player Performance Discussion

00:00:23
Speaker
This is the most negative I've ever started a podcast. ah Josh, what the hell happened?
00:00:30
Speaker
oh but I mean, I think I've been saying it all season. yeah And I think everyone's starting to clock on night. This guy, um you know, I don't even say any names. I don't even want to say anything more. You know, I don't even want to say anything more. I've said it, I've been saying it since the start of the season. I said it last week. I probably say it this morning as well, right? Parrots. Jesus. I don't know where to start with them. I don't know where to start. but I have no words anymore. I've just completely got Craig. Are you the same? Are you just done with this man?
00:01:01
Speaker
on the whole team.
00:01:07
Speaker
Not the one in, on a serious note though, we've got one player like, we can't finish. We can't finish. We can't open play. We can't finish like an easy one, two, take a short goal. A lot of

FA Cup Defeat Analysis

00:01:19
Speaker
happened through the rest of the season.
00:01:21
Speaker
No, you're right. Well, hello and welcome to the Daily Arsenal Podcast. That's the, ah I think the most, probably the loudest start that we've ever had to a podcast in the Daily Arsenal Podcast. Today is our Monday review episode and as you may have guessed by now, we are reviewing our FA Cup but defeat to Manchester United at home, ah the title of this episode, FA Cup and 60 million down the drain. um We're going to be talking about the game itself, the disaster that it was, the disaster of a player that we have currently,
00:01:56
Speaker
ah disaster of the form that we're in, as Craig alluded to, and is there a solution? Where do we go from here? So starting off, the game itself, I mean, we were at the Emirates, we had a rough game against Newcastle. um Josh, did you watch the Newcastle game? And sort of like, did you see similarities in this one?
00:02:16
Speaker
I think in the Newcastle game, I think, well, a bit unlucky. I think we should have, again, we didn't put our way of chances. And, you know, Newcastle, I think they had like two clear-cut chances and then, you know, that's what happens when you have a number nine, you know. I mean, that can clean the school goals, you know, he gets like half a chance or give him a chance. He gets back to the net. So I think the Newcastle game wasn't too angry about what today it was you know 10 men united you know at home 10 men as well i forgot about that 10 men 10 men 20 united um craig the game started off horribly
00:02:54
Speaker
with the man who has finally come into some form and could have been that right-hand side replacement for Saka getting stretchered off. Gabrielle

Gabrielle J Zeus Injury Concerns

00:03:04
Speaker
J Zeus was stretchered off for Arsenal with a knee injury. How much of a hit is that for us? Massive, because I don't know where the goal is going to come from now. Honestly, because he was scoring goals for five years and these goals were four out of games, I think it was. It's got three in the cup, one end gets published in the league, two get published in the league, wasn't it?
00:03:24
Speaker
Yeah. So five, six, and it's going against Brentford and G-Tech. I don't know where the girls are going to come from now. I'm very worried. I feel like they are long-term. So I was a long-term injury because the way I went down, he didn't get back up, so. Yeah. I mean, Arteta said, big worry. That's my feeling. He had to come off on a stretcher with a lot of pain touching his knee. It's not looking good.
00:03:47
Speaker
The worry factor is the feeling that he had when he had to come off and the pain that he was in. So obviously he was then replaced by ah Josh's other favourite, Raheem Sterling, ah who wasn't awful, but wasn't brilliant Josh, would you say?
00:04:04
Speaker
I think that's his best gaming asshole shirt to be fair. I think he did all right on the right hand side. I think he tried to have a finger. A couple of times he got through, I don't know if you saw that volley where you hit it and it went near the quarterback. That was completely funny. That was so hilarious. I was just like, what are you doing?

Impact of VAR Absence on Referee Decisions

00:04:23
Speaker
But um now I think he was one of our best players, to be fair. I don't think he was that bad. Yeah. I mean, we did actually have the ball in the back of the net first. Martinelli did have a goal rolled off. It was for offside. ah Craig, would you agree that it was it was pretty much it was offside? It was tight, but it was off. was side um Yeah. the fail let me change that it'll find Yeah, ah because of course that is one of the big things that happened this weekend as well with the FA Cup. There was no VAR in this round. So all the referees decisions stood, which if you ask me in the tan meer game for Spurs was lucky for Spurs because they were awful today. I'm not sure if you saw that game. They won three nil, but it was against a team who are five leagues below them. And it took until the hundredth minute for them to score.
00:05:08
Speaker
So, you know what, I think we could have done worse. um Now, Craig, the opener for Man United, Gabrielle makes a mistake and allows Gunacher to drive forward. He then feeds Bruno who, to be fair to Bruno, I cannot stand him, but first time finished, tucked it away past David Ryer with some real plumb. What

Bruno's Goal Analysis

00:05:27
Speaker
did you make of the goal? Top-class goal, wild-class goal, because the movement Gabra made a mistake, Ganaxo had to make a good run, made a quality run, had to make the right pass, made a decision because he couldn't have gone for God himself. He made a good little pass. Bruno was off with like on, off of it on Timbers side in this place, and got an open opportunity to get out of this work. Karlie in the top corner. Good finish. Great finish. It was a great finish. It was a really tiny one. And then, speaking of finishes or attempted finishes, Josh, the first of, um,
00:06:02
Speaker
King Kai's opportunities fell to him. The ball fell to him. He was probably about, let's say, seven yards out. It bobbled up slightly. He swings it with less foot, pretty much in the center of goal he was standing. Skews it off wide.
00:06:21
Speaker
Missed an absolute sitter. I've actually got what I've described it on as my as for my notes for this is effing Kai F Josh taught me through that opportunity You know, it's so funny. I was literally at my cousin's house and my uncle was there. And he's like you. He loves Kai Habits. I don't know what it is, but he likes it. And he was like, when he saw the chance, he got off and says, yeah, yes, I told you. He's like, he didn't score. How did he miss?
00:06:56
Speaker
I can't believe it. I can't be sure. And I was like, we see this every week. I see it every week with him. yeah you make He does it every week, but he gets bailed out with SACO. Well, mainly SACO, really. Well, you know, when you haven't got a clinical strike or anyone else that's clinical,
00:07:14
Speaker
You know, things are going to get found out like it was today. And I don't know. I don't know how you miss it. Like what you got to do. Just get on target. Like literally just get on target with a bit of pace. Don't need to smash it. Let's just get on target. ah Just making a decent connection with it in that position. There was a few bodies in front of him. If he placed it, go. Yeah. But I'm honestly, Josh, ah my patience is gone. My patience is absolutely gone. We'll be addressing it properly in section two. But um ah don't worry, I'll come back to you in a bit as well because there's something else we need to talk about.

Arsenal's Discipline and Referee Decisions

00:07:46
Speaker
But um then there was the Dallow red card just after that ah kind attempt. Craig, obviously, it was a second yellow for Dallow. I don't know about you. I thought that could have been a straight red, that challenge.
00:07:58
Speaker
It was horrible, Red, because that could have been a serious injury to our player. It was horrible. It was just a dash. I don't want to insult that. We ran into the back of it. I think it's a killing as well. It's very dangerous. I thought it was really nice, Red. They're not going to say secondly on the card. But they're very fortunate as well. I think the melee for the penalty, I think it's going to be seven off. I'm not going to say seven off. It's going to be head by one of our players, but then we've got a score on the first one of our players on the ground.
00:08:26
Speaker
It was a big melee and then the rest didn't bulk him. so Yeah, it got a bit nasty before the penalty. I mean, United had or committed 25,000 that game. Yeah.
00:08:39
Speaker
25 is a lot, 2 out of 10 as well. Like Amorim clearly had them set up to play dirty in this one, but yeah not hugely dissimilar to how they played against livertool Liverpool, like putting themselves out there. Then, and well actually you bring it on very nicely, just after that is the penalty incident where Havarts was brought down in the box. Now, I think it was a soft penalty. It was definitely United players who kicked off after it though, and
00:09:07
Speaker
It was saved. It was saved by their goalkeeper, Bayinder. I think that's how you pronounce his yeah has name. yeah Josh. I think it was a well struck penalty. I think it was a very good save. what What did you make of it? Do you think it was as good the quality that Erdogan hit it with?
00:09:26
Speaker
Yeah, I think it's in the corner. The only thing you could probably ask, you could have put a bit more pace on it. But it was a good save, you know, it was a good, I think he was decent, it was a good save. But come back to the red card, I thought it was the yellow. I thought it was the yellow. Yeah, I think, what I think is he's lost the ball and he's trying, and we're meant to be trying to get back. And I can see, I don't know if you've seen the replay, but he tries to leave his, he tries to not take take his leg out of it. So okay yeah, though I don't think it's definitely a yellow. It's definitely a foul. Do you think you're a quarantine of a second jello? 100%, 100%. You've got the man, you know, even though he tried to get the ball and he tried to take take the leg out of the tackle, he still got the man. So it's definitely yellow. I don't know why you're now kicking off about that. Yeah. because
00:10:11
Speaker
Sometimes when it comes to a second jello, referees put a slightly higher threshold on what it should be for a second. But you reckon it was fair to be a second jello for it? Yeah, I think that's fair. A second yellow turned off. Yeah, I think that's fair. I don't think that's ever permanent. I think that's soft as hell. He literally just put his hand on his chest and have it goes down. We really think how it's had a chance there and he should have put it. I don't know why he didn't put it in the left side of the bottom corner. He actually did well to dribble through. He was doing relatively well with his feet and then just sort of went, ah, you know, sod it, I'll hit the deck. I don't think he did well. I've been hit with heavy touch and he brought my wife to get in the tackle. Well, before Josh explodes, Craig Rice had an opportunity to score as well. It wasn't just Kai, it was Declan Rice as well, who had an opportunity to get his name on the sheet. A header, clear, no one near him, sent it straight to the goalkeeper. A player of his calibre has got to be doing better there, surely.
00:11:16
Speaker
a hundred million partner is spent on him. Yes, I agree. They should have put an advance back of the net. If he had it across the keyboard, it's good. I think there's no way he could have found his favorite. He'd have it right next to him and he could have made, no, then the TV says, I mean, the TV says make it look good, but they should have scored that head off. And there wasn't anyone around him, was there? He was free. No, it was free. It was free. It was free. Yeah.

Havertz Criticism

00:11:37
Speaker
Another instance of an Arsenal player not able to put it away. And speaking of which, my next note says, effing Kai,
00:11:44
Speaker
a because this is when Calaverts chested the ball down three yards out from goal and sent it over the bar I mean the circle has come back to you Josh you know it is yeah I see him do this every week every every week he does the he he doesn't okay We don't create that much chances. That's another problem we have, right? yeah But the thing is, the thing is, the thing is, right, people are getting onto Martini today, right? Well, my family were getting onto Martini today saying, ah, you know, he doesn't put the ball in the box. ah he doesn't I think I saw him make about six, seven good crosses, but you haven't got a number nine there to go attack it and have it should be there, go to attack it. And he's not. And when he does go there, attack it, he does something stupid, like take it extra touch or hear over.
00:12:33
Speaker
Or, you know, I'm not even shocked. I'm not shocked by it. I just, I'm happy that people are starting to see what I've been seeing since the start of the season. It's taken 97 episodes, but finally, finally,
00:12:48
Speaker
I'm really agreeing with Josh. I really am, because it is getting to that point where it is hard to defend him. it It really is, because the opportunities that he's had, I mean, for crying out loud, the one against Newcastle as well. Oh, that's embarrassing. Yeah, that's embarrassing. Came off his shoulder, and he it was an open header.
00:13:12
Speaker
like just shambolic quite frankly. Like apparently his XG for this season is still 7.8 and he scored seven. I think that's very, very generous.
00:13:24
Speaker
You know what's funny about Israel, you know, like when they were about to go to extra time, they didn't want to mention, have at his chances. I don't know if you're watching on um on BBC, didn't want to mention anything. I was just like, this guy gets away with murder. Like he gets away with so much stuff. It wasn't anybody else. Like if it was, if it was, if Saka had those, missed those chances. If it was Martinelli. Martinelli gets it all the time.
00:13:48
Speaker
Everyone would be saying a lot of these things, but have it. I don't know what it is, but he gets a he gets a pass on these things. I don't know and't know about you, but what Scout has looked at habits and thought, you know what, yeah, that's a good football player that idea, you know? That's someone I watch. Especially as a number nine. Especially as a number nine.
00:14:05
Speaker
Can you say what you've got? What is that level of coziness? Numbers are very good at level of coziness. We had good numbers at level of coziness. But if you have a strike at level of coziness, I feel like a force, like a 10. It was a 10 there, wasn't it? Yeah, it was a 10. Yeah, or wide right. It wasn't our number nine. But when you head for Germany, school for Germany, all the times you can, like, what kind of players, you can do it for the country when it comes to Arsenal, when you need them, but what if it doesn't do it? so I don't know if it's a confidence thing. I'm not defending him. I don't know if it's a confidence thing or what, but he needs to go work on his finishing. He's rubbish. He's rubbish. Chelsea are smart. They saw this guy and they're like, you know what, this guy can't cut the mustard, you know. 60 million. We'll cut our losses here. We get some money back. you know At the moment, it's looking like the deal of the century for them, isn't it? It's looking incredible for them.
00:14:56
Speaker
ah percent um Moving on from that opportunity, in extra time, ah the main chance that sort we could probably talk about is the one that fell to Trossard. He was a bit late getting across the face of Gull, sliding in. I think Dalit got there just ahead of him. um So that was another opportunity. But then it came to the penalties. And Craig, who would miss the penalty for Arsenal? Who would have their penalty saved? None of them like I haven't!
00:15:23
Speaker
He's getting rich today, boy. He's had a... Let's be honest, Craig. I know you weren't defending him there, but he's had a mare, hasn't he, today? He's had a mare for the last couple of years. Since Psycho's been into it, he's not been into it. He's had a mare ever since. I think Psycho creates a lot of chances for him to go when he's at the end of the war. And this is a chance that he's here to get the gold, but Psycho plays.
00:15:48
Speaker
A lot of it is going to come in the Champions League and the Monaco, when the ball comes out of the hat-trip and they came to him and he said it's the right place, right time in his squad. I'm not defending them, I'm not happy with them, but it's still my, it's a lot of play, I really got a threat, I got a backhand in it, it's a lot of team in it, it can't really, you know what I mean? I'm not happy with the performances recently, I'm not very happy with that at all.
00:16:11
Speaker
My dad sent me a message after the game, and as I'm sure I've mentioned before, he's a Liverpool fan, he said, has Havertz been taking shooting lessons from Nunes?
00:16:24
Speaker
Which I think, personally, is very, very harsh on Darwin Nunes. But it's very harsh. And they're both finishing.
00:16:35
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, to to to finish off the game, it came to penalties Manchester United one at five three. Xerxes scored the winning penalty and If any player was going to score it, the winner, the winning penalty, I'm kind of glad it was Xerxes, because he's out a he's had a really rough time at United. I think slightly unwarranted, you know, slightly unwarranted. um But that was that was the game.

Arsenal's Recent Losses and Solutions

00:16:59
Speaker
That was part one, guys. It's nearly been 20 minutes. That was part one. When we come back in part two, we're going to talk about the issues. There's one big one, which we've kind of already addressed, but we will come back in just a minute after this message from Zencaster.
00:17:14

Speaker
If you're ready to tell your story, check out the link in the show description to learn more about Zancaster. Welcome back to the Daily Arsenal podcast. I'm not going to moan down the microphone for this introduction to a part. Let's just get straight in. I think the big massive issue that we've seen in the last two in the last week, let's say it, last week, Tuesday we lost 2-0 at home against Newcastle. Let's be honest, we're very, very unlikely to go to St James's Park and win 3-0. We're probably out of the EFL Cup.
00:18:10
Speaker
Now we've been knocked out of the f FA Cup, which is the Arsenal Cup. It's the cup that, you know, it's ours historically. We're at Premier League, six points behind Liverpool. They have a game in hand. We're only six points ahead of City who are in sixth place. Champions League is a long, long road. Josh, we're not going to get our hands on any silverware this season, are we?
00:18:35
Speaker
You know, I said it to everyone. It would be awesome to be out of two club competitions in a week. That's all I'm used to. That's what I'm used to. It does kind of feel like it's more like an old friend, doesn't it? I mean, I mean, going to St. James Park, we have to go there and win 3-0 and not concede a goal. And I don't know about you, but we couldn't even score against 10 men United. So I don't know how you're going to do that at St. James Park. You know, with a rigid Newcastle team, I'm pretty solid, you know, all around the park.
00:19:05
Speaker
um Again, with our FA Cup Premier League.

Financial Constraints and Squad Improvements

00:19:09
Speaker
I mean, you know Liverpool running away with it. I don't see them dropping points. And if they do drop points, and I don't see us catching the points. Champions League, maybe if the draw is lucky for us. um But we've got we've got too many injuries. you know The injury list is just piling, piling on. And ah I think it's hard to even make a squad now. you know i I wouldn't want to inherit that mess that Arteta has right now because they they really need to to spend in in January. like There's no excuses. they They have to. You've got to find somebody.
00:19:36
Speaker
Yeah, we do. And ah apparently we're out of money, you know, so we can't buy anybody in. So it kind of stuck with what we have. I think you might have a point. I could see Vieira being recalled at this point. I could even see Reese Nelson being recalled at this point, just to try and shore up the squad a little bit. um Craig, we were talking about it before we started. Arsenal in this game against Manchester United had 26 shots, seven of which were on target, one of which went in.
00:20:05
Speaker
Jay Zeus is now out and it could be for a long time. When you stretch it off with a knee injury, it's not going and it's not good. It looks very, very bad. Saka is out till March, but as you were saying beforehand,
00:20:21
Speaker
likely not going to be fit again all season properly fit properly playing it is best martinelli is trying god the man is trying but isn't getting any luck trussard has been off the boil urdu guard looks sharp in this game haverts has been all over the place where the hell are our goals going to come from Like, where do we score from at the moment? Because it seems to be the big problem. For a team who was second chasing a title, how the hell do we score? This eliminated just two seasons ago. When, or three seasons ago, I went above there and left the club. I like to sit left the club. I thought that we need a centre forward, a proper centre forward, not this Mickey Mouse centre forward. We need a proper number nine equal score goals.
00:21:08
Speaker
Arsenal always been blessed with great number nines if you remember from past history, always have great number nines or number 10s, number 9, number 10s, the score goals from anywhere. We've lacked a lot of players over the years since our business has come in. We haven't really bought policies for quality that players who are available to get, we never got them. For Mario's at Newcastle, we could have got him in that win. Johnny Winder. It's like we could have got available with the Johnny Winder conversations ago. We have included, we could have got two summers ago before we went to a West Ham. That's a few players I've named off my head that we could have got and who are available for quite cheap. For now, for us to go and buy them if we wanted to get them with off their rival clubs,
00:21:47
Speaker
It's going to cost us over 100 million for each one of them, maybe 150. So we had the opportunity to get these type of players that we didn't go for them. So looking back now, I think the board made a mistake on going for them, I would say. Do you agree with that, Josh? Do you think that we've left it just too long that this is something that should have been addressed long ago?
00:22:09
Speaker
Yeah, it should have been a just long go, but I think what the problem was, and I at the time when Isaac was at a real source that he was a bit of a,

Arsenal's Striker Needs and Team Impact

00:22:18
Speaker
so they are, I think they asked about 70 million, and also didn't really, sure they wanted to pay it. You know, he hadn't really done it anywhere else, you know, which you can, on paper, you can kind of understand. But if you look at it now, I mean, apart from the injury record, the guy's amazing, and you know.
00:22:32
Speaker
kudos. I mean, that's a sign that they could have done as well. and I think they just dilly-dallyed on the deal. And then I think, I think Artetto just wanted to strength up the defense, really. And I think he who reminds of of of kind of like a, the way he's thinking of a good old Sam Anadise, you know, David Moyes, make sure your back forwards all set up straight, and then the rest kind of fix itself. But, you know, that we're arsenal, you know, I name, I don't know a team,
00:22:57
Speaker
That's when the Premier League or competing champion league without a number nine or without someone like a mo seller, you know, you and you need those sort of guys. You you can't like we've got a decent team on paper when everyone's fit. We've got a very good team. But we haven't got a team to kind of challenge for the title without a solid number by nine. doesn't Doesn't make any sense. No. All the pundits were saying it before the season even began as well. That is what we needed to do. We needed a number nine. Do you think This is kind of for both of you. We'll start with Craig. Do you think Arteta, with his focus on the defence, do you think he's become a bit complacent as a manager recently? I agree. Often the the danmp there's the summer transfer winner says that all that, the ball in Calleforie has been injured so many times this season. and and of Our previous squad was injured a lot as well. The ball in Nicole Moreno, who when he was Premier League previously didn't really
00:23:54
Speaker
lit up, we should have gone for more, I feel like in more powerful dynamic disorders, disorder, I would say, something like a positive, powerful, strong disorder, like the Libra of Brighton, for example, something like it's a strong and powerful, like kind of like the Casadeo of Chelsea, someone like that is just, you can kind of give other garden rights more freedom to go forward and do their thing.
00:24:19
Speaker
um There are good quality players out there that we should be targeting, but I don't know who's the recruitment at the club, and who's recruiting the player, who's scouting the players. I thought that's a bit of a fundamental problem as well, and I thought that anything that is mind you, he makes the choices of signing the players, and I think that he sends the scouts to get the players he wants, and I honestly feel that it's not really, and a lot of people are winning, but it's not been very cool to come to signing players, obviously. I'm not really happy with the sign, it's like the era, for example, coming in.

Hasn't really lit up in the Premier League, so yeah. I have to admit, when Vieira came in, I had quite a lot of hope about him. I thought he looked he looked quite encouraging. There's Josh laughing away.
00:25:04
Speaker
um Josh, kind of along the same lines. Our text has been at the club for five years now. Two years we challenged for the title. This year, you could argue we've not really. We've won one FA Cup, which was in his first season in charge when Aubameyang broke the cup, obviously.
00:25:23
Speaker
is, ah because there's been a lot of talk, especially online today, is Arteta running out of time at Arsenal? Because that I feel as though, even though we're second, I feel as though the pressure is really growing on him at the moment.
00:25:39
Speaker
Um, no, I think, I think you have to remember where he taught the club. We, we were in challenge for top four, I think. And that was what couple of seasons ago. That wasn't that long ago. Um, it's a, it's going to take time. And i ask me I know it's been a long time since we've been one, one time properly, you know, and I'm impatient at the next, ba but it it doesn't, you know, really not built in a day. Um,
00:26:03
Speaker
but come back to the transfers as well. and I had a rumor that with Sesco we literally, well we were all going to bid for him and we made an awful forum but we couldn't promise him that he's going to be in the first team week in week out because habits might be in the first team. So that's why he just said well I don't want to go to the team I'm not going to be playing each week and um you know especially doing habits No! Don't say it's true! Yeah, I don't know how true it is. that that sort As a source I've heard. I think we've all checked.
00:26:37
Speaker
I think some of these signings, even when Eddie was there, there were some of these signings that weren't really great as well. I don't know if you remember Pablo Marri, if that sent him back. Oh yeah. He's useless. There's a lot of them. I saw a list and I'm like, there's a lot of guys who didn't really do well.
00:26:55
Speaker
i think the summer, I think today, surely, ah usually I, you know, when Arthur proves me wrong with Rhea, you know, I put my hands up, he proved me right with that one, I could be wrong with that one, sorry. I mean, with Ram style, certain plays that we bought, I think, yeah, nah, that's not the guy, you know, they proved me wrong. But surely, no, they have to guard there. I mean, I don't think it'll be done in January, but in the summer, you have to guard there and get number nine. nine it's it' it's it's skin It's getting ridiculous now, you know, you have to guard there.
00:27:22
Speaker
So here are, I literally just searched this, here are the attacking players that Arteta has signed since he's been manager. Raheem Sterling, Willian, Martin Erdegard, I reckon we could class Martin Erdegard, Marquinhos, who's now at Sao Paoli, I've got to look quite closely, Leandro Trossard,
00:27:50
Speaker
The fact that it's taken me a little while to find it says it my point entirely. Fabio Vieira, Gabrielle J. Zoos' kind of habits. Wow. Yeah. I... No rules. Honestly, the most of the most sort of like, the best forward players that we probably still have in Saka and Martinelli were here before him. He's not improved that front line.
00:28:18
Speaker
Yeah, that's something that has to be addressed. And the last point I wanted to make on in this section is the problem with Martinelli. I think he is a brilliant player, but I think he's being constrained. And Craig, we were talking a bit about this. I want you to expand on your point. Is Martinelli being overcoached in this Arsenal side? I was saying to him before we started, yes.
00:28:45
Speaker
They kind of managed to feel woke up back in the day with Phil because the Arsenal, when he was the only one game he scored against, he set up for the sister get Liverpool in the Champions League when he ran, probably like three or four players, went past them, crossed the world in the box, and anybody who had it happen. After that game, I saw changes in his game and it kind of stopped, it kind of affected him with the same player after that. Yes, it was still scoring goals, but it was not the same.
00:29:06
Speaker
dynamic player that I love to run. The ball is more made of more technical kind of player like. They kind of left the athlete kind of spot out of the same model and the model is supposed to be at the Arsenal. It was very raw to run that play. I'm the only ball that was put in Chelsea when Kante slipped and he ran straight through all of the defense I want to score. I haven't seen that for a long, long time. I don't know what's happened to them. I'm sitting with them out of coach. They've coached it out of this game to be more side with a backwards pass in the wall and not not really attacking that how he used to attack when he first came onto the seed. Yeah, I was saying in the little review I did of the Newcastle game, Josh, because our tester seems to prefer this horseshoe formation. So when we

Is Martinelli Overcoached?

00:29:48
Speaker
get into an attacking position, basically get a semicircle around the players and around their box, it means that Martinelli is constantly recycling possession into the midfield.
00:29:59
Speaker
it's not what he's good at is it realistically is he being wasted with us does he because i want to see him do well i want to see him do well for us but i i feel like at the moment if our tattooing system playing this way this isn't the right team for him I have to agree and and disagree and because I think what he's been asked from, because today I saw him when he got the ball, he tried to put the ball in the box and he's done that couple. he done he done that that That's what he looks like he's been told. When you get the ball, pick up a pass, cross it in.
00:30:30
Speaker
you know For me, we haven't got no one to aim at. There's so many balls that went in there. They went into the danger part there, and there's no one to attack it. Well, i'm just like what's the point? you know What is the point of thrusting in the ball and not having no one there? And and for me, the blame goes to have it. I think, Martin, that don't get me wrong. you know eat right Maybe he is being coached a bit too much. you know um He hasn't got that freedom to kind of you know do what he wants or drive at players or Or, you know, I don't know whether it's because he's been injured a couple of times. I don't know if that's the fact or maybe you can't do it. I don't know. But I think definitely today, I think the stick that he gets, I think he's done it. I think he did it. or I think he did all right. I think he did his job. He put balls. I thought at least seven or eight balls. I thought, yeah, just go in there and Yeah, it's going to get ahead on it. I love him. I want him to do well for us. I just feel as though the way it's set up at the moment might not be best for him. um We're going to take a very, very quick break. When we come back, we'll very briefly talk about potential solutions and the game that's coming up on Wednesday. I know it's a big one. We'll be back just after this message.

Upcoming Match Against Tottenham Concerns

00:32:12
Speaker
Welcome back to the Daily Arsenal Podcast. um It's been a long episode so far, so we're gonna keep this section relatively short. Looking at potential solutions. um Josh, you were just mentioning there that balls into the box have been a big thing for us. We've talked a lot about ah number nines. Craig, do we need a big number nine who's going to win the ball in the air? Because it seems as the amount of aerial balls going in is just mental.
00:32:35
Speaker
often I think we had I've had it in a long time. It's only running behind. Maybe it's physical as well, but it's only running behind. and Score the chances that we create that. We create a lot of chances and matches, but we can't finish them. So, yeah. Fair enough. And um Josh, Wednesday. So we've we lost to Newcastle on Tuesday. We lost to Manchester United today. Well, yesterday but for the listeners on Sunday.
00:33:04
Speaker
We come up against our Derby rivals on Wednesday at home. How are you feeling about this one? Because I was feeling a lot more confident before this game. I don't know why I feel confident. I know it's taught them, but we have injury crisis here. You know, we've got a team where nobody is fit.
00:33:23
Speaker
and you know And not after that, we've got and got Villa afterwards. Yeah. ah I mean, that that could be the end of the tower. is still did Those two losses there, two draws could be about 10 points behind. yeah And then we've got a game in hand. It's not looking good, is it? It's also mad to think that that was the second of our five games at home. And we're in such a position where we're saying,
00:33:48
Speaker
Yeah, this could be the end of the title race this run, even at home, because it feels as though, obviously, I've not been there in a long time. And this is actually what we're going to talk about in tomorrow's podcast, the state of football and trying to get into the grounds and things like that. But it feels like the Emirates has become a bit of a nastier place recently. It looks a bit more hostile, would you say, Craig? I agree. A lot of times we're not happy at all. They're very vocal in there. They're not happy with the performances, not happy with the start of the play.
00:34:17
Speaker
I feel sometimes at the end of the day, if we're not scoring or we're not doing something, we don't find it quiet. When you go to other stadiums, that you see the fans are all looking for, food e for example, and the fans are just like, roaring the team wants to go forward. I feel like if we don't do anything in the first half, the fans are very quiet and and my it's not very, if things are go going against us, it's not very like,
00:34:42
Speaker
encouraging kind of thing to play. I could always do that. I would have always done this to the fans, to like, come on kind of thing, to get a fans to shout in. like okay Well, I mean, we're going to need the fans onside on Wednesday. And

Fan Frustrations and Support Urge

00:34:55
Speaker
if you are listening and you are going to the game, scream, scream your heart out and scream to Arteta, get Havertz off the pitch. Wherever it takes, throw a paper airplane with a message on it, put a banner up, get Havertz off, hire a plane to fly over the stadium with it on there. Just pass the message on.
00:35:16
Speaker
I mean, this has been a rough one, boys. This has been a rough podcast. I don't know if you guys feel the same, but and yeah today was a today was it was ah draining result, Josh. And it actually feels like it feels like it could be a really big turning point in the season, but not for a good reason.
00:35:34
Speaker
Yeah, you know, like I was saying when it got to extra time, before extra time, I was like, if we don't score a goal and it goes to penalties, we're losing, right? And I hate when I'm right, you know? think I don't, I don't win anything. with i I just see my team lose and, you know, I'm just upset.
00:35:51
Speaker
I hate it, but I saw it. And I knew, I knew Kai Havertz was going to miss. I knew he was going to miss up that penny because you see, you see, older God, right? He's got a mentality there. That's why, you know, he missed his penalty there. And I give him a hat off to him, you know, missed his first penny, went out there, took the first one, and he put him back in the net. Easy. Havertz mentality, you know, he gets away, you know, that shows he's just a loser. All right. And I'm, and I'm tired of him. I want him out of me. I want him out. I don't want to see him anymore.
00:36:20
Speaker
but Well, you heard it here for the 97th time, everybody. Josh Duncan wants Kai Habertz out. um With that, we're we're coming towards the end of the podcast now. We want to thank you all for listening very much. I've been your host, Josh Vince. They were Joshua Duncan and Craig Matthews. Tomorrow, we'll be doing a podcast looking at the state of the game, ah talking about ticket prices, trying to get into games these days, the way refereeing is going and the schedule. And then on Wednesday,
00:36:47
Speaker
you will have a crossover with our colleagues in heavy air quotation marks at the Daily Tottenham Podcast all on the GSPN Network. But until then, have a wonderful day. We'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye. Every club, every day. The Global Sports Podcast Network.
