Sports News and Knicks Discussion
00:01:22
Speaker
Hey, what's going on? What's going on? Nothing. Not too much. Nothing at all. Not much. We are starting the week off with a Teach Ray Sports.
00:01:38
Speaker
This is the theme to teach race sports. We need a theme for teach race sports. I couldn't think of anything that would be original. I stole this instrumental from the Gary Shanley Show.
00:01:49
Speaker
This is the theme to teach race sports.
00:01:57
Speaker
This is the theme to teach race sports.
00:02:01
Speaker
Big sports news this week in the NBA. The New York Knicks are going into the NBA Finals. I know nothing about that, but I know all about this.
00:02:13
Speaker
Fucking Dan Housen is being called the savior for New York right now. Can you explain can you explain how this started, what's going on? And we'll get into Dan Housen. This started...
00:02:26
Speaker
the week of WrestleMania, he was all over yeah ESPN doing promotion. And um Stephen A. Smith is a huge Knicks fan and he cursed the Knicks because Stephen A. Smith like talked back to him on the segment.
00:02:38
Speaker
um And then he uncursed them. And since he's uncursed them, they have won 10 games in a row um and 11 overall, which is an NBA playoff record. I believe 11 game win streak is an NBA playoff record.
00:02:54
Speaker
Wow. and all i And I heard that they were not favorited in this round, too. In these rounds. No, I believe they were... Yeah, the Cavs were favored um over the Knicks. And the Cavs, I mean, the big thing is, analytically, they won the series, but they lost all four games.
00:03:14
Speaker
Um, but the Cavs apparently played better or whatever, but I mean, the casual out and got a James Harden during the NBA trade deadline. And that is a guy that just always falters in the playoffs, even though he's a great player.
00:03:27
Speaker
So, um, I never really believed the casual win. Um, And good for New York. I mean, typically I'm not a huge fan of New York sports. Seems to be being from Boston allll or being a boston sports fan.
00:03:39
Speaker
um But good for them. Apparently Donald Trump is a huge New York Knicks sports fan. And somebody on, I don't know if it was ESPN or maybe it was Fox Sports one said, I'm going to ask him to name five players from the 1993 New York Knicks championship team. And people on Twitter were freaking out because they didn't win in 1993. And that was the fucking joke. Just like when somebody tweeted at him to ask him about the trade relations with Wakanda.
Dan Housen's Wrestling Journey
00:04:10
Speaker
Well, this all revolves around Dan Howes. Dan Howes debuted back in December in WWE. He's been in the independent... Was it February? Was it February? Was it right before WrestleMania? Yeah, think it was for Mania.
00:04:25
Speaker
Yeah, it was whatever fucking February pay-per-view, I believe. First time he shows up, he's booed out of the building. I don't think i think it was Chicago. Terrible chicagogo whole debut. yeah Terrible debut. Fucking awful debut.
00:04:37
Speaker
Since then, he's been the he's been backstage. And those backstage vignettes have been amazing. um His merch is outselling everyone right now. yep And he is over...
00:04:48
Speaker
everywhere. I've seen him in articles on Hollywood Reporter, Sports Illustrated, every sports-related thing ever since this happened this week with with the Knicks. He's all over yeah ESPN because they, of course, have the deal with them. They have the deal. They're all in the same umbrella.
00:05:02
Speaker
He's all over that. He did their top three plays a couple times, I believe. yeah Plays of the Week, which is pretty hilarious. and He's asking for courtside tickets to sit between Timmy Shalala and Kylie Jenner. He's Yep.
00:05:17
Speaker
So the finals, when they start next week? I think, yeah. Wednesday, I believe. Wednesday. are Who are they? Any idea who they're playing yet? I don't know anything. Game seven between the Spurs and Oklahoma, and I really want the Spurs to win. Okay.
Basketball Game Analysis
00:05:32
Speaker
because I hate Oklahoma City. like There's a guy, SGA, in Oklahoma City ah that is Saturday Unfortunately, I'll be working for the first half. um But SGA is kind of like the new LeBron, just not as good, but he gets like... He's like Patrick Mahomes where he gets all the calls from the refs, and it's getting to the point now where if you breathe on him, you can get a foul, and it's fucking awful. It's ruining the sport. I hate that shit. Plus, the ah Spurs have a 7-foot three player named when when by Anna who can shoot three points like it's fucking he's so much fun to watch. So I really want the Spurs to win that game.
00:06:11
Speaker
So keeping an eye on this keeping an eye on Dan house and that's all I care about. I really hope that they go. I mean it's a phenomenon. A lot of people are saying it.
00:06:23
Speaker
A lot of people are saying it. That his merch, between his merch sales and being him being everywhere, and not including any sports stuff everywhere because of this this miraculous thing that happened.
00:06:35
Speaker
that he's bigger than austin in 2000 i'm not sure about that he uh he's the most over person in the company his gimmick is basically like a 1950s making fun of horror movies essentially yeah so but there's him and austin i believe this year's wrestlemania or the hall of fame one of the two um
Series Highlights: 'Widow's Bay'
00:06:56
Speaker
He's awesome. He's just a great character. The old school WWE character that just works. He's not really known for wrestling. We saw him. The first time we saw him was Limitless Wrestling. 2019 or 18.
00:07:07
Speaker
Westbrook Maine. Was that when we saw Teddy Hart? Teddy Hart was at all three of those shows yes that we went to. That's why we went. ah We also saw MGF. Everybody in AEW right now pretty much was there. Half the roster.
00:07:26
Speaker
Brian Cage was there. looks monstrous. He looks like ninja turtle. he he looks monstrous but yes so he looks like a ninja turtle We'll keep an eye on Dan Housen, the Knicks Housen, everything Housen on this podcast, Geep Blurk Housen.
00:07:44
Speaker
um What we watched this week. Kevin didn't watch a lot, but we'll get into that. And I did not watch Bad Thoughts Season 2. It came out on Netflix. I am going to watch it. um I like the first season. I will watch that. But I did watch...
00:07:59
Speaker
Widow's Bay had two great episodes, episode six and episode seven. I'm going to keep bringing this up to the finale. i think the middle of June, 10 episodes. The show is fantastic. It's horror. It's comedy.
00:08:11
Speaker
Great cast all around. This week's episode was a two-parter. The first one was all set in the 1700s, directed by Ty West, which I know you love.
00:08:22
Speaker
um Episode 7, fast forward, connected to that. It's connected to a guy that we meet in the 6th episode, and it's in modern time. They dig him up out of a coffin, and he's alive in the coffin over 300 years later. Don't want to get into too much that show. It's great.
Exploring 'Spider Noir' Series
00:08:42
Speaker
Great surprises, in that show um it's on apple tv and it's awesome watch that um the big debut this week though um you also haven't had time to watch but we're not gonna get into too many spoilers because there's not yeah i only saw three episodes yep there's there's not too many but spider noir great show are you watching any black and white as well
00:09:04
Speaker
Oh, yeah. I decided to do that. I didn't have time to watch the color. um it's hard it I will say, without an OLED, I'm sure an OLED, it looks amazing. The shadows in this, I had the same problem with Game of Thrones. Everything that's in that's in black and white that's in a shadow in a dark area hard to see so on on a regular LCD TV. Get that right out of the way.
00:09:27
Speaker
um So I didn't watch it in color. watched it black and white. Not taking anything off of that, but the show is fantastic. It's just great to see something new, original. I watched the first episode twice because I did watch it in color to see what that's like. It's super easy to switch back and forth from color and and white. It Yeah.
00:09:43
Speaker
And the color looks awesome. Like it looks like it's not like regular color. It's it's like kind of a little bit better than like technical colors. It's cool. It's interesting. um But yeah, black and white iss the way to go.
00:09:56
Speaker
and they try They call it a like true Hue Color. Cool name. um But no no idea if there's going to be... He's having a lot of fun. Chewing the scenery. It's fantastic.
00:10:09
Speaker
yeah He does a fantastic job at yeah chewing the scenery. He's done that since the 90s. Everything he's doing later in life. um ah yeahp The other movie that he had with Pedro, i camera't I can never remember the name off the top of my head, but he's fantastic in that where he plays himself.
00:10:24
Speaker
um villains in this show these are the villains that show up and they're they're the comic book counterparts um got me into the comic book we'll get into that in a minute but um silvermane a character in the comic books a mobster character who ends up getting killed and turned into a cyborg in the comics did not happen in the series um Sandman, also a part of Spider-Man Noir, the comic book series, but that's him in the comic series. Tombstone, who has been in this, he's reportedly going to be in to be in yeah brand new day Brand New Day. Also is in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the new animated series, so he's everywhere right now. yeah The guy with electricity, not Electro.
00:11:08
Speaker
Electro has natural electric powers. It doesn't have to come from anywhere. Megawatt. is a character that has to absorb power out of electricity and the power can run out and he has to keep absorbing. it So if there's a place that has no electricity, he runs out of power.
00:11:22
Speaker
That's kind of what his power is in this show as well. Cat Hardy, who is Felicia Hardy, kind of a connection to Black Cat in the comic books.
Nicolas Cage and Role Choices
00:11:32
Speaker
She's in this as well. She plays a lounge singer slash assistant to Silvermane.
00:11:37
Speaker
You got Molten Man. We've seen Molten Man in the MCU before. He was in Far From Home. um It was a Mysterio hologram, I think, when they were in Paris or somewhere overseas. This time, it says yeah you see him the very first episode. Molten Man, he turns into fire, just burns alive, and and he dies right away. Spoiler.
00:11:58
Speaker
And we also see what could be considered a man spider. And that's where his origins for the, for his, for his bite and everything come from. It's a man.
00:12:09
Speaker
um And I don't want to get into too much about it cause i don't think you've seen that episode yet, but ah it's all set in world war one. That's kind of where it all goes, goes the origin of his character. And there's, there there's an episode where they flashback and show everything. So it's really cool. um Nice. Nice.
00:12:26
Speaker
In this, this comic book series came, I believe, in like 2008. And eight and then of course, we know it was part of the it was part of the Spider-Verse comic book series, which ended up becoming the Spider-Verse movies. He was in the first one. Nicolas Cage voiced him in that. That's why they asked him to come back in live action.
00:12:43
Speaker
Nicolas Cage was hesitant to come in this show because and because he's never done television before. He's been a movie star. um And his son showed him Breaking Bad. And ever ever since he watched a couple episodes of Breaking Bad, he's yeah, i gotta to do this show. Just because he realized what TV can be for for an actor. um And in the comic books, he has a different variety of comic book rogues gallery compared to what we used to see in the ne in the original Spider-Man run. For example...
00:13:16
Speaker
Top left, that's the goblin. um In the middle, that's Dr. Octavius. He's in a wheelchair. um On the far right top, that is Vulture. he's more Vulture is more like a i would say vampire character, a noir vampire in the shadows. um Kraven, bottom left, he's got a monkey on his shoulder. Kraven is more like a sideshow ringleader. And everybody in this show, a lot of them, a lot of the villains are connected to the sideshow, connected to Carnies, which is, of course, huge in noir, huge back then circuses and so forth. Chameleon, they even mentioned he's Craven's half-brother there. He's part of the sideshow. And Mysterio, part of a magic show in the circus. That's him on the on the bottom left being clapped during a magic show in the middle of the circus. So all kind of noir, cool, weird, different characters. um It's a cool way of retelling the Spider-Man story in a whole new era, using that kind of that template for for history and everything, um and just telling a different story. I mean, they're doing that with Batman and the and Justice League in DC right now, the Absolute Universe.
00:14:28
Speaker
whole complete different story, different universe and everything. It's kind of cool. I like that. I like stories like that. and Yeah, Batman's broke. I can relate finally. Right. um And future seasons of this, I could see, as I was watching, and I think I told you on text, I could see so many possibilities of villains that could be part of this show that we haven't seen yet. Like these ones here and are not part are not are not part of the show. um Another one that I found out about, which would be a great character arc in one of the seasons, especially with Nicolas Cage, if they brought the symbiote into this series...
00:15:03
Speaker
He would chew the scenery. and He would chew everything. He would shootw the he would chew the symbiote-like fucking gum. And there is precedent for that. There is a one-shot that came out called Father Eddie Brock where a priest named Eddie Brock in the noir universe...
00:15:18
Speaker
becomes venom which looks fucking awesome it's a priest with the symbiote all over him and he's venom right there with a cross and everything it looks fucking amazing i would love to see that in this show i would just love to see a symbiote anything right now um it's funny i think i was gonna get it to the end but we'll talk about it a little bit now um a couple of years ago we talked a lot about 80s nostalgia was huge but very big right now eighty s nostalgia is going out nobody gives a shit about 80s nostalgia it's nostalgia um and we're getting a lot of 90s nostalgia not only in marvel which we already know spider-man very heavily influenced and even x-men 97 all of that stuff very heavily influenced from the 90s animated series and everything but dc is going that way as well um but we'll talk about that at the end is that a little thing i want to talk about at the very very end but um Spider Noir, great. It's on Amazon Prime. All eight episodes. It's the only thing I had a problem with. They should have done one episode a week. That's how great the show is, and it would have it would have landed fine. um I don't know why they dropped it all once. It have helped me. Yeah. It's hard to binge. dropped on the same Bond. There are so many great shows right now. It's hard to binge big shows like this. Back when streaming first started, it wasn't like that. When Stranger Things came out first came out, there wasn't 10,000 different shows to watch. You could binge Stranger Things in one in one day or a couple of days. But now, there's so much shows that that I'm currently watching right now. This is more than I've ever watched in my life that I'm in the middle of.
00:16:51
Speaker
um that are there are current shows so great show on Amazon Prime and hopefully we'll get more information on season 2 or continuing this with Nick nick Cage who he's great just a great great character for him to play um and he does a noir he it's definitely a throwback to every noir thing like cast I was thinking Casablanca watching this I was thinking Maltese Falcon I was thinking a whole bunch of stuff like those type of black and white movies back in the day great show watch that Kevin has a movie review. He is going to review a movie i I'm very interested in. back you saw Backrooms.
00:17:29
Speaker
Yeah, I did. um Very interesting, very intriguing. There's a lot of room for sequels. Right. I don't know there's my cup of tea. um The entire last act is like an acid trip.
00:17:42
Speaker
Okay. I gave it like a three and a half out of five. Um, it's so well-made and well shot though, that I couldn't give it below that.
Review of 'Backrooms' and Similar Shows
00:17:51
Speaker
Um, i'll probably never watch it again. And, um, obsession is way better. Um, that's the comparisons everyone's making now, but it's not even close to me. Um, it was very interesting, very new concept. Um, it kind reminded me of the old nineties horror movie, the cube a little bit. Um, um,
00:18:10
Speaker
But I think a lot of people will like it a lot more than I did, um which seems to be the consensus because it's getting absolutely rave reviews. um I had no idea what it was going into it, but um I did see my boy Mark Duplass in it, and I love it any time he shows up in a random horror movie.
00:18:25
Speaker
um So yeah, three and a half out of five, it was interesting. um Like I said, the whole last act is kind of an acid trip. um And like, it's kind of a mystery up until that point. And then you would kind of like learn what's going on. You're like, ah we'll see. It's kind of like how you feel about that last act. It will depend on how you like the movie, in my opinion. But it was good. Definitely very solidly well-made film. And it's absolutely crushing at the box office after just whatever the Thursday previews or whatever they call it. Right.
00:18:55
Speaker
But yeah, if you're looking, I mean, there there seems to be, people love horror movies. And it's great because they can be made for cheap, as we're seeing with Obsession has made a hundred times its budget right now, which is fucking amazing. I love it. um But yeah, it's it's it's a good it's a good movie, um especially if you're looking for like a little horror fix and haven't seen Obsession yet.
00:19:19
Speaker
Yeah, I'm excited for to see both, but definitely Obsession. The hype that that movie got, it beats it beats Star Wars on Wednesday or Tuesday. yeah yeah it's going to beat Star Wars this week, which is insane.
00:19:33
Speaker
Yeah, it never heard it hasn't been heard of in a long time where a movie just keeps coming up up and up every week. as The hype is definitely... ah high for that movie and for me as well.
First Impressions of 007 First Light Game
00:19:43
Speaker
Yes. um And the reason why, number one, you're working, but the reason why you haven't watched much this week is you played a fucking game that I'm excited to play, especially after the reviews came out.
00:19:51
Speaker
um You started playing 007 First Light, which I have extremely excited for. I want your reactions to the first couple of days playing and it came out on PS5, Xbox if you have a console. Well, it's not just that. Also, a kid at work just got his Switch fixed. So we've been playing Fortnite a lot also. So I'll get home from work, play Fortnite with him for like an hour um and then go on to 007. And then I'm getting real tired like late at night. Like last year I was able to stay to like 2 a.m. m like no problem. But nowadays it's like it's midnight. I'm old man. I'm like, oh, time to go to bed.
00:20:22
Speaker
um It's becoming a real issue with my my watching and my playing of things. I'm going to bed at 9 every night, so I feel the same. Yeah, it's insane. It's insane. We're getting old, man. um But yeah, it's ah it's everything I've ever wanted in a Bond game. um It's very much like Hitman meets Uncharted, like which is everyone saying. People, for some reason, using that against it. It's like, yes, let's take these two fucking amazing games and complain that another game has combined them two. I don't understand that as a criticism. To me, that's more of a positive thing. um Yeah, ultra positive. And the best thing about this game...
00:20:56
Speaker
The best thing about this game is in most situations, like in Hitman, if you get busted, you cannot fight your way out of a situation. You you basically get fucked in Hitman, which is part of the part of how difficult it is, but also part of the fun.
00:21:13
Speaker
In this, if you get busted, you can just... In most situations, fight your way out of it and be okay. And then hide again. um The mechanics are incredible.
00:21:23
Speaker
Yeah, your bond. The mechanics are incredible. Like, the fact that you can just, like, say you're fighting a guy and you can push him back and then grab, like, a random object, like a coffee mug off the desk and just throw it at his head.
00:21:34
Speaker
That's Shit like that is awesome. um The training mission went on a little bit too long, but I get it. They're trying to get you into the game. Like, that probably took about an hour whatever. Um...
00:21:45
Speaker
but it just felt like a little bit repetitive if you're used to these kinds of games. Um, so I guess they were setting people up for people that aren't used that type of game and whatnot. Um, probably transitioned from between hit man to bond.
00:21:56
Speaker
Um, but I'm having a lot of fun. I'm also taking my time with it. I play about an hour, hour and a half max a night. Um, But so far, it's great. You are literally Bond. Like, it's made for James Bond purists who know the backstory. yeah He came from the military. And, like, the game starts off. Your first mission is you're...
00:22:16
Speaker
in the military and your plane goes down and you end up in this village and you basically have to save people within that village. And MI6 takes over during that. They intercept the comms. They give you instructions the entire time.
00:22:28
Speaker
And that's how you work your way into MI6. Then you go through your training. And I'm assuming that some of the people you're with are going to die or even turn to the bad side. Lonnie Kravitz plays the bad guy who I believe is a former MI...
00:22:41
Speaker
agent which is awesome um so far just a lot of fun it is it is very much james bond um homeboy from dexter original sin um patrick gibbs i don't want to say yeah i don't want to say i hope they cast him as bond but so he's i was gonna ask you that that he's a he's fucking fantastic as bond um i would have no problem if they cast him as bond Um, and I mean, IO now has this property. And so I'm assuming they're going to do another one, which I mean, the bond franchise and license has been like back and forth, like just getting passed around. Like it's Bonnie blue at this point, but hopefully IO keeps it intact for a while because they did an outstanding job, um, with at least the first game. And like I said, I'm only a few hours into it. Um, it came out Wednesday,
00:23:31
Speaker
I haven't played any today outside of going into the early m morning hours. um But I can't wait to get off this podcast and play some more. Awesome. Yeah, i was going ask you about Patrick Gibson if if he could be cast as live action. He's fantastic. I would love it, um but i don think they will.
00:23:48
Speaker
but I don't think so. would not seems like because i don't think I don't think the movie's going to be like... They already kind of did that with Daniel Craig. like right First mission, earn the 007 type stuff. um But he's doing a really really good job so far.
00:24:04
Speaker
Yeah, I am very intrigued. I may pull the trigger one of these days and get this game. I mean, I'm sure in a month or two, it's going to be like $50, $60. Because that's what happens with video games is once the Steam rolls off, then they let it sit for a little bit and then they drop the price. So I'm sure that by August, you'll be able to get it for $40 $50.
00:24:24
Speaker
um okay but it is worth at least from what i played the 70 price tag i've heard people complain that's only like 12 hours but i've also heard people say it can take up to like 18 to 20 hours depending how you play it because like i said you don't have to do the cell stuff most of the time you can just go through and fuck people up and i'm sure that's the quickest way to get through it um especially when playing on the easiest difficulty but uh i'm having a lot of fun with it so far Awesome.
00:24:48
Speaker
Yeah, well, ah we'll talk about that later on, I'm sure, once you get further through the game. If there's anything you want to talk about, we can. But um until then, let's get into the news.
Trailer Discussions: X-Men 97 and More
00:25:06
Speaker
And it's not a news segment, we're about to trailer roundup.
00:25:11
Speaker
We got the first first full trailer of X-Men 97 Season 2. I love the first season, and this one looks just as good. good It looks very good. So I cannot wait to see Wolverine on the front of the poster there, reminiscent of, I believe, Wolverine number one from the 70s. Awesome.
00:25:29
Speaker
um Primetime. This intrigues me. came mad I saw the trailer last night. um de Robert Pattinson. I didn't even know this was going to happen. yeah Came out of nowhere, I believe, on Wednesday. Just leaked online. Robert Pattinson. Yep. um Playing, what's his name from Nightline? To Catch a Predator.
00:25:51
Speaker
To Catch a Predator, yeah, yeah. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but um The Voice, Down Pat. Crazy. Down Pattinson.
00:26:02
Speaker
Down Pattinson. Crazy. Um, and it's all about to catch a predator and the serious. And I believe the guy who's, who hosted that had a lot of legal trouble outside of the show as well.
00:26:13
Speaker
Um, I don't know if he was, I don't know if he was caught being a predator, but he got caught doing something weird. Right. Um, I don't know if it was prostitution. I can't remember what it was. Um, but that show is incredibly addictive. I think they were all on YouTube at one point and I just just like binge that shit all the time.
00:26:30
Speaker
Yeah, every every time an episode aired, everybody, it was always one of those water cooler moments after at work the next day. People were talking about the guys that were getting arrested. So crazy crazy show to begin with.
00:26:42
Speaker
yeah Remember when that happened to Rob Feinstein? Yes. By the local news, he never got in trouble. That was the weekend, hu you know, to bring it full circle. That was the weekend Teddy Hart was staying at his house for a shoot interview.
00:26:54
Speaker
Yeah, ROH, who was the ROH owner at the time? President and founder. Yep, founder and president. Yep. Crazy. Good old Robbie Fulstein. So keep an eye on that A24 movie.
00:27:06
Speaker
um Another trailer came out for a movie called The Get Out. Starring Russell Crowe, Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, and Nino Dubrov, who is in Vampire Diaries. And Aaron Paul. um ah Russell Crowe plays this retired, I believe he's kind of like a just a, kind of on the on the heels of maybe being a mobster, but not really. He was a strip club, nightclub, um and he wants to get out of it.
00:27:35
Speaker
um he's he's has He has heart issues. He's older. um And he gets robbed in the middle of the day by Nina Dabrov and Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad, of course. And the story kind of continues from there of trying to get his money back.
00:27:49
Speaker
um Aaron Paul, doing Aaron Paul things looks great in this. um I'm kind of worried about it because movies like this also could be very much a straight direct video. And by the looks of it, I think it's coming out three days after it debuts in theaters. So that may be an issue. But Russell Crowe, it's got a great pedigree. So Russell Crowe's in that as well. Luke Evans is great. So keep an eye on that.
00:28:11
Speaker
um And today, not a lot of trailers this week, not a lot of news either, but we'll get into it. The final trailer for House of Dragon came out today. i don't know if you had a chance to see it or not, but it looked as sorry it looks great. I can't wait. It's going to start off with the battle that last season should have ended with, but because of the sale of Warner Brothers at the time...
00:28:29
Speaker
They cut the budget budget is short. um It's going to start off with a lot of people dying. Like I told you off pod, I've been rewatching season two because it's been so long. I don't remember. um and i forgot I even forgot that Craig and Stark, who's one of my favorite Starks, was in season two. He's in the very first scene of the show. um He'll have a huge role.
00:28:50
Speaker
in the last season, at least in the finale, but he's got the the Wolves of Winter are going to be featured, which is one of my favorite actors from Sons of Anarchy is going to be the leader of that group, which are basically like...
00:29:03
Speaker
the Winterfell soldiers that are just kind of older. They're called the Wolves of Winter. um They're going a huge role in this season, I believe, in at least one or two episodes. um I can't wait. Like I said, i'm rewatching the second season because it literally seems like it was fucking ten years ago that it came out. Right, yeah. um So, yeah.
00:29:24
Speaker
Comes out just about three weeks. I think three weeks from Sunday is the day comes out. So cannot wait. yeah um Box office last week.
Star Wars Box Office Analysis
00:29:32
Speaker
Mandalorian Grogu. It was a holiday weekend. Mandalorian Grogu went the box office for the four day total. Over $100 million. $102 million. um Lowest for a Star Wars movie ever. um Yeah. But yeah, it's a weird climate right now. It's not. It's been watered down with television film. yeah not been film um Kathleen Kennedy fucked the brand over with the whole sequel trilogy. yeah um
00:29:59
Speaker
I literally don't blame one right i don't blame JJ. I blame Kathleen for that whole mess. Um, cause they didn't go into the plan. Um, and now they're talking about Simon Ginsburg fucking trilogy. And I saw that. I mean, if you look at his fucking credits, not great.
00:30:17
Speaker
His credits are not great. His writing credits. Um, so, Yeah, I mean, I enjoyed the movie more than i thought would. I said it was better the Rogue One, or the review is not. I was just fucking around with you, because I know how much you love Rogue One. But, I mean, it was it was what it was. It was an extended episode of television that, if that's the serious finale of Mandalorian, I'm happy with that as the finale. Didn't learn fuck off in Grogu, but we talked about that day. Filoni's not going touch that, even though they decided to fuck up Chiari Monday in a fucking Disney show for no reason and fuck up the entire lore of that shit.
00:30:50
Speaker
Yeah. But, I mean, it is what it is. It's not an event film. Hopefully, Starfighter does better. At least Ryan Gosling's attached to that, and it won't feel like an extended television episode.
00:31:03
Speaker
So, we'll see. I mean, Star Wars, I think, for the general audience, the word DC was four years ago, kind of dead. ah Yeah, you're right. You're right. it's ah It definitely needs a boost. It needs a defibrillator right now to the whole series. um I
90s Nostalgia in Current TV Shows
00:31:21
Speaker
don't think Andor... I liked Andor, but I don't think it helped the series. Andor was a great show on its own, but i don't think it helped Star Wars.
00:31:28
Speaker
I don't think it helped Star Wars at all. um It helped Disney Plus. It helped Disney Plus. i think I think it's the best thing Disney has produced as far as overall quality and storytelling. Yeah.
00:31:41
Speaker
because there's a through line throughout that entire thing. But when you fuck up Luke, Han, and Leia, there's really no coming back from that. It's like fucking up Jesus. It's like fucking up Jesus. You can't do that. Right. Except Luke, Han, and Leia are real.
00:31:59
Speaker
Number two last week in the box office, Obsession for the second week, $28 million in the four-day week. I'm in Michael, back in the top three, week five, $25 million.
00:32:10
Speaker
So three movies in the top three. Two of them I've seen. One of them I really want to see. i I'm sure it'll be in digital soon. But that movie is crazy. We'll talk about it in a minute. i think I have it in the notes a little bit. Mandalorian Grogu, $160 million worldwide. So it's big, huge money maker. budget was $165 million. So you add $100 million for marketing. um They have to make another $100 million just to break even. So we'll have wait and see. um Obsession.
00:32:39
Speaker
One of the only films in the 21st century to earn 30% more on its second weekend than its opening weekend. And earned $22 million last weekend. It's going to earn another, problem I don't know if they're what they're and projected for this weekend. i'm miss I'm assuming you will be reviewing that Friday because it comes out Tuesday on digital. Oh, it does. Great. Okay. I will be. Is that June 2nd? Yeah. June 2nd. It comes out digitally. The extended cut.
00:33:05
Speaker
um So I'm also going to be re-reviewing it. And who knows if the extended cut will make me give it a five out of five. I do i do know i'm gonna I like it more than you will, but I think you'll enjoy it. um I really enjoyed this movie a lot. Like, it's just, it's everything I wanted. sell Cool. Yeah.
00:33:22
Speaker
um Not a lot of news this week, but we'll get into it. TV news. Ben Stiller and Mike Judge are teaming on a new ah TV series for Apple TV. called Protective Custody. Stiller is going to star in that. Stiller already connected to Apple TV, does Severance. So now he's going to a starring role done by Mike Judge. Mike Judge, of course, Office Space, Beavis and Butthead, um the movie where everybody's saying that Donald Trump is running his presidency right now. Like it, Idiocracy, especially if you look at the White House one. um
00:33:57
Speaker
Yes. But... ah Yeah, great pedigree for Mike Judge. ah Ben Stiller, it depends on if it's a comedy or a lot or a drama because his comedies are great dramas I'm not a huge fan of with Ben Stiller. Also, I don't think I ever reviewed it. I tried Ben Stiller's Soda as well. The Stiller Soda. Yeah.
00:34:20
Speaker
it's uh it's basically it's basically water it's it's just flavored water it's not really soda i hate i hate when that happens i expected okay um i expected a root beer and it tasted like fucking water okay um real quick then i'll review the new um caramel popcorn fucking supergirl ice cream oh from uh cold stone yeah you got that It's pretty good. It's really good. um It does not look anything like the picture. In fact, when I went in and ordered it, the guy was like, this is new menu item. And he had to go outside and look at the sign to see what was in the ice cream.
00:34:54
Speaker
That's great. But um it's it's good. it's ah It's basically like a sweeter vanilla with caramel sauce, sprinkles, and kettle corn and kettle corn flavored ice cream. um It was actually pretty good. I was wondering how the kettle corn itself would would work into that in an ice cream, but it like softens up because it's in the ice cream. and um It was quite delicious, but it was fucking $9. I don't like ice cream that much, but it was $9. was...
00:35:20
Speaker
i was But it was good. It was good. I've got a review, a food review. Also, we're going to talk about Supergirl food in ah in a little bit. um yeah I tried a drink. It may be the worst thing I ever tried. It was at KFC.
00:35:33
Speaker
It was a prickly pear Sprite, I think. or Sierra Master. I can't remember where it was. It tasted like grass. Like, literally, somebody missed grass. pear margarita? Prickly pear margarita was good. But prickly pear Sprite, I would not try.
00:35:47
Speaker
Yeah, it was gross. What was the other thing I tried this week? Oh, I tried the groro Grogu Burger or the Mandalorian Burger at Burger King. What fuck is that, Burger King? Okay. Yeah, and I also got the cup, the little cup I showed you. You're getting little souvenir cups with that. but That was okay. It had Swiss cheese on it. I'm not a huge fan of Swiss cheese. but um That was okay.
00:36:08
Speaker
Burger King, again, the fake fucking flame broil shit they flavoring they put in that, it's fucking disgusting. Compared to other burger fast food places, it's gross. I had someone tell me, they're like, well, they do it over flame. That's why it tastes like that. i'm like, no, it's clearly like alternate alternated by or altered by
Fast Food Opinions: A Quick Take
00:36:26
Speaker
chemicals. like it doesn't That's not how flame broiled burgers taste. It tastes like liquid smoke, for sure. yeah um The other thing I tried, which is amazing, I think I've had it three times. I haven't brought it up.
00:36:38
Speaker
McDonald's, their Dirty Sodas, they have Blue Raspberry Sprite. Oh, yes. Fucking incredible. Yeah, I've had them three times. Blue Raspberry is the greatest flavor. It's not an actual thing. It's not an actual thing. It's chemically altered. But Blue Raspberry anything is peak as fuck.
00:36:57
Speaker
And we'll talk about that because there is a KFC item yeah related to Supergirl coming out. We'll talk about that later on the news. And that drink I got before Mandalorian at Buffalo Wild Wings watermelon cooler, it literally tastes like a blue...
00:37:09
Speaker
Blue Raz, Jolly Rancher. It's so good. That's cool. um Nicholas Cage. No more food talk. Nicholas Cage, speaking of Spider Noir, Nicholas Cage, says he's in talks to star in True Detective Season 5.
Nicholas Cage in True Detective Season 5?
00:37:22
Speaker
And he says they're just talking right at the moment, but he's more open to television series after his time with Noir, so that's good to hear. um Speaking of TV, Shrinking. We love Shrinking.
00:37:33
Speaker
Shrinking Season 4 is adding Karen Gillan. Nebula from, of course, Guardians. Speaking of shrinking, the girl from shrinking is in Backrooms. I did not know that because I have not seen a preview.
00:37:45
Speaker
Yep. Sorry. Cool. Shrinking is a great Friday Night Lights. Know you're a huge fan of that. 20th anniversary. Goddamn right. Coming out this fall. 20th anniversary. Actually, didn't that show come out in 2004?
00:38:01
Speaker
No, maybe it was 06. Was it 06? I thought it was... It might have been 06. That makes sense if it's 20th. This article says, yeah, 20th anniversary, but they're they're i believe they're going to a Comic-Con. Yeah, because the writer's break was season two, and that was in 2007 or 2008. Okay, so it is 2006. I was thinking earlier than that. but I'm thinking of the movie, too. was thinking 2004. Movie might have been 2004 or 2003 or 2002. That's what I'm thinking. But they're going together for a Comic-Con, the whole entire cast. And while they're there, they're gonna film a documentary, a new special documentary, the whole entire cast retrospective of everything, 20th anniversary of Friday Night Lights. I know you're a huge fan of that show. I watched a couple episodes of it. It was good. It's good.
00:38:47
Speaker
It's a good teenage drama. Stan Lee. We talk about AI all the time. um And they there's a company called Eleven Labs who deal with AI for audiobooks and reading. They signed a license with his likeness, his is ah his voice and and likeness for commercial use ah to be used in audiobooks. And I believe you can use him right now.
00:39:12
Speaker
I don't know what app it is or what it is, but there's an app you can use them on to have them read books for you. I don't know if it's comic books. I don't really know anything about it other than that. But AI, they got the deal from his family. guess his daughter. I think his daughter's alive. Or he has a daughter. They get the signed deal from the family to use it. I had no problem when they did that with Val Kilmer in the movie, as long as there's some sort of a family agreement to it.
00:39:41
Speaker
um we'll keep Maybe if I hear more about that, we'll see. Speaking of horror movies, have you heard about this? I saw this pop up on my feed this week. A movie called Blowing.
00:39:52
Speaker
OnlyFans content creator or stalked by a blow-up doll-faced killer. It's a slasher movie, available for rent and purchase, it came out this week, but that's the that's the monster right there. Some guy, instead of a scream mask, he has a blow-up doll mask with a big, huge open mouth for blowjobs or whatever the hell goes on with a blow-up with a blowup doll, but called blowy um i'm not sure if you want me to try to find this if you want to watch it for the podcast oh we're watching this no we're not watching this probably and i will see um but um this uh this is um next topic please well i will say the tagline while filming at a mansion in the middle of nowhere a tragic accident leads to a group of adult content creators being stalked by a doll-faced killer
00:40:41
Speaker
right, you know what? Hit the memes, you son of a bitch, I'm in. yeah Okay, keep an eye on that. like Chucky with a blow-up doll. That's awesome. um Rambo, prequel movie, coming out on an official date June 4th of next year. um And, of course, James Franco, David Harbour, part of that cast. And, yeah, we'll keep an eye on that as well. I got the brand new title of the day, and we got the dog tags for that. um Valve, the Steam Deck, you got it last year.
00:41:12
Speaker
Rising the prices. Thank God I did. Good thing you did, because ah for the for for the whole console, um up $300 for the 1 terabyte. Is that what you have, the OLED 1 terabyte? Or did you get the 512? I paid Yeah, I paid $649. I paid $750 overall because I got the dock so I can play on my TV. but i got the one terabyte OLED. um And, um... don't think when I got it, I don't think the 512 wasn't OLED at the time. I think it was just 512 with the regular screen. okay That's why I got the OLED. They've upgraded it. For one terabyte for $649.
00:41:49
Speaker
But, yeah. Great device. I love it. um I sit in bed and use it all the time. Is it worth a thousand bucks? But Jesus Christ. Now, which means the console is probably going to be $1,500 when they drop the console.
00:42:02
Speaker
The console will probably be worth a thousand dollars, but, um... $1,000 for literally, don't know, an advanced Switch, I guess you could say. i mean, it's a great console. I fucking love it. For $649, I would tell you to buy it all day, every day.
00:42:18
Speaker
For one terabyte OLED, I would tell you that's the deal. But enough for not for $949? Not for $1,000. Because you're going to have to upgrade your memory stuff like that some point. um Right.
00:42:29
Speaker
So, yeah, I mean, my cousin just bought ah the newest PlayStation um Pro.
Impact of Rising Tech Prices
00:42:35
Speaker
She had to upgrade because her PlayStation would like just turn off after an hour. And that was like 900 bucks. um As we know, our friend Adam, ah your friend, my acquaintance, he's a good guy. He works in this.
00:42:48
Speaker
um The shortage is just fucking wrecking his business or whatever he does. Like it's really taking this toll. Um, speaking of that, trying to build a network network storage right now, I'm running out of space.
00:43:01
Speaker
Um, and also hard drives right now are ridiculously priced. a 16 terabyte hard drive two years ago was around 300 350 you can't get a 16 terabyte hard drive for under 450 right now somewhere up to 500 um and you can get refurbished ones you can get refurbished ones but you are taking a risk with that um because they're obviously were returned at one point and um try and they fucked with it to try to fix it. but um
00:43:33
Speaker
Hard drives, every that's why consoles are all going up in price. every All around computers, everything is going up. so um We'll jump into some popcorn buckets. First one is for Disclosure Day. comes out next week, I believe. um The popcorn bucket for that. Yes. I really can't believe i can't believe they showed the fucking alien already. Thank you. Marketing for this movie That's one thing I really thought.
00:43:59
Speaker
Yeah. Should not have done that. That would have been a great surprise, but i do want to see the movie still. mean... From the guy that did Jaws, and I mean, also we saw the movie Up, was it Up or whatever the fuck it was, Jordan Peele, a few years ago? Nope, sorry, Nope. Nope, yeah. Nope. um they didn't They didn't reveal any of that. In fact, going into Nope, you didn't even know was about technically like an aliens type deal.
00:44:22
Speaker
um Yeah, the marketing for this has been... Not great, but I mean, people aren't going to the theaters. They're trying to get people in, and I guess that's one way to do it. Spielberg's name isn't enough, I guess.
00:44:33
Speaker
That's very strange. Nope. Which, I mean the last four movies he's made was bombed, so... Right, yeah, that could be. um Popcorn buckets for Toy Story coming out next month, Toy Story 5. We got a brand new Buzz Lightyear popcorn bucket collectors drink container thingy. we got it We got a whole bunch of stuff connected to that series. so And let's get into some swag.
Supergirl Movie Promotion Strategies
00:44:58
Speaker
Swag. Stuff we all get. Come on, Samson.
00:45:05
Speaker
Not pot figures, but I love Superbad. One of my favorite movies. Picks. I don't even know what the hell these are. But Superbad figures from that movie. I love that movie. I would probably hunt these down. i don't know anything about what they are. But I do love that movie a lot. so Also...
00:45:26
Speaker
Hot Toys with some fantastic figures this week. Yes. Lobo and Supergirl. The Lobo figure, tons of extras. Of course, Hot Toys is known for that in likeness of um mo ready Momoa. Jason Momoa, I really got figure out what Hot Toy I'm going to buy eventually. Well... Because I need one, but I don't... This one. Maybe if they do another Crow one. That one's really good, but...
00:45:54
Speaker
I don't know. It's got to be something special. Maybe the Batman 2 I'll wait for. Maybe. Get the Pattinson one because those ones were really good too for the first Batman movie. But this one looks absolutely outstanding. It's one of the best hot toys I've seen in recent memory. Oh, by far.
00:46:09
Speaker
Supergirl. It's up there with the Black Panther one. The Black Panther one was awesome. Great too. yes Yeah. But yeah, Supergirl and Crypto with a whole bunch of stuff from the movie. The trench coat, of course. The slurpee that she's drinking, the headphones, the tape deck. um And Crypto, a huge part of that that movie, of course. So, God, I cannot wait. um And the thing that we're going to talk about with KFC, coming out with a Crypto crypto um Chicken Bucket.
00:46:38
Speaker
With Crypto ripping out of the bucket. um We also are getting a Blue Raspberry Boba. I believe Sierra Mist coming out. And three new sauces. The tie-ins for this movie are much better than superman Superman had like fucking Dairy Queen and like Carl's Jr. doing their shit. Right. Like at least Supergirl's got like Cold Stone, KFC and a few others.
00:46:59
Speaker
I will say the Dairy Queen one lasted a very long time. It was not only all summer, it went into the winter too, the Dairy Queen one. And I never even got it, which sucks because I wanted to try it. But their Chicken Fingers is going to have a Chicken chicken Finger basket. ah They're gonna have three unique flavors to Supergirl-related characters. Lobos Wild Ranch. um I believe it's Supergirl Solar or Honey Mustard or something. And ah Ruthie's Sweet Chili Revenge.
00:47:29
Speaker
So, of course, if you know that story, that's a great name for that. There are also going to toys with a Happy Meal um with all these keychains with all the characters from the movie. It looks awesome. Supergirl and Ruthie and Lobo and Krypto. And there's a poster that they came out earlier this week dropping on June 8th.
00:47:48
Speaker
Supergirl coming out of a KFC flying out of there. So it looks awesome. And we also got a brand new poster for Supergirl with all the characters there and Lobo on the bike and everything.
00:48:00
Speaker
um Also, a brand new trailer dropped with a Superman pulling Kara out of the spaceship when it lands on Earth. Also, in that trailer, he hands her her Supergirl outfit, saying that he wants to fit in more to the humans on Earth, so he gives her the costume to look more like him. um Great. Movie comes out, what, in three weeks as well? Right around the same weekend as Game of Thrones. Yep.
00:48:25
Speaker
game of thrones so Sebastian Stan speaking. You mentioned the Batman 2. You mentioned the Batman 2. Sebastian Stan reveals he plays many roles, quote, in the Batman Part 2, of course.
00:48:40
Speaker
Right, they're saying he's not Harvey Dent at this point due to the shaved head. Okay, we'll see about that. Many roles obviously means Harvey Dent. If anybody says it's not, they're just denying it. I mean, um I see the shaved head and I say they probably just throw a wig on him or whatever, however they want Harvey to look. right Prosthetics or whatever.
00:48:58
Speaker
yeah That's how I thought of it. That's going to be an interesting role if he plays a dual role for that, but we'll see. um And Nicolas Cage revealed that he um that he was asked to play Green Goblin.
00:49:11
Speaker
in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man in the early 2000s, and passed on it because i I don't know why. Oh, he said he wanted to do the movie Adaptation, which I believe I've seen that I liked it, but I haven't seen it a long time. So,
Speculating New Spider-Man Movie Plotlines
00:49:23
Speaker
yeah. um On the Marvel side, they're currently filming Born Again Season 3, and there's Mike Coulter and Finn Jones as Luke Cage and what's his name? Iron Fist. That's us for Iron Fist. Let's go.
00:49:40
Speaker
And we also got a comic accurate look at Bullseye currently filming on New York City right now. It's basically the Daredevil suit. I mean, which Bullseye is anyways. Yeah, it is. Yeah, yeah. And ending the week with Spider-Man, a Spider-Man brand new day coming out in a little less than two months. And we got Empire covers this week that came out. of spider-man versus the hand they look great also if you look closely at spider-man's web shooter in the one where he's when the man is chasing him um you see little green ls leds in there too which is an interesting weird touch i know he probably builds them himself and everything so interesting um it might do something different than what i used to so we'll see yeah
00:50:22
Speaker
um And we got some brand new photos from the Empire article. And there's some information that they were talking about. Amy Pascal says Spider-Man Brand New Day is a more internal movie. ah The bigness of it is emotional, not worlds exploding like ah far like No Home.
00:50:38
Speaker
Kevin Feige also says it's the first MCU film focused on the classical elements of Spider-Man. He's doing the Spidey thing on living in a rather sad movie. small apartment and listening to the police scanner, going out and using his great power responsibility.
00:50:54
Speaker
Tom Holland is saying that he's ready to enter a new era of Spider-Man. Whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting in that next chapter up. If if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset. He's already talking about leaving the character behind.
00:51:13
Speaker
um Which sucks because he's doing such a great job. But um I really hope his final thing is the symbiote finale. i was fucking I love the symbiote. I've said that multiple times. um If that's the final thing he does, I would love that.
00:51:28
Speaker
um And finally, the reason why I'm bringing that up, I saw this rumor popping up a few times and I wanted to bring it up. um that the symbiote could show up at the end of that, at the end of this movie. We already know the symbiote's in the MCU world. It was dropped off by Tom Hardy's Venom at the end of fart on No Way Home in an after-credits scene. So we know it's in the MCU. According to rumors... Peter is presumed dead after the final battle. Not sure about that.
00:51:57
Speaker
With the movie recreating the iconic shot of Punisher carrying Spider-Man's body. If you know the Kraven's Last Hunt comic book, um he he buries Spider-Man. And then the Spider-Man comes out of the grave. There's an iconic cover of that, of him coming out of the grave in the symbiote suit. um That's kind of where they they're getting to this twist. The symbiote keeps him alive is what they're saying the twist could be.
00:52:19
Speaker
Michael Mando already teased Venom Scorpion imagery in his... I think i was on Instagram. One of the Instagram stories or something. once he returned and Once he announced that he was returning. um and Fans think that Marvel is secretly setting up the Black Suit Saga, especially for Doomsday and especially Secret Wars. That's where I could see it happening.
00:52:39
Speaker
i was Of course, that's where the C-Bit debuted in the comics. and we're talking We've been talking a lot about... 80s 90s um of showing nostalgia for that 80s was more um we're getting that with spider-man 70s 80s comic books we're also going to get into the 90s and 80s with secret wars as well and doomsday so um But yeah, Spider, if he if he has a simian, that's a whole other acting prowess. We saw it with Tobey Maguire a little bit where he turns into an evil version of Spider-Man. Say what you will about that movie and Venom. The Venom of it all sucked.
00:53:15
Speaker
But the even the dance sequence with Tobey Maguire wasn't a huge fan. But there was lot of imagery in that in that Sam Raimi Venom movie, Spider-Man 3. Yeah. That was right directly out of not only the animated series, but Spider-Man animated Spider-Man 300. And that's because it was Sam Raimi. That movie, of course, as we know, that's probably one of the first.
00:53:36
Speaker
Well, obviously Superman 78, Superman 2 were the first victims of studio interference comic book movies. yeah big you shit But that was the first one in our lifetime um that got fucked over by the studio. yeah Sam Raimi did not get to tell the story he wanted to which is dumb considering what he did with Spider-Man 1 and then of course Spider-Man 2 which was The Dark Knight 2 is still an all-timer right, 2 is still an all-timer
00:54:01
Speaker
um And I think i think Tom Holland could pull off. He's a really good actor. I think he could pull it off. A dual role. Even though nothing he's done outside of Spider-Man has done well, um he's been really good in movies like Cherry and whatnot. um So I think he could pull it off. It's almost like an anti-villain. do hope that, yes.
00:54:21
Speaker
I do hope eventually, like we were talking about him moving on from the character, that He is the one that introduces Miles Morales to this universe and then just kind of fucks off somewhere, of retires or whatever. Then you can always bring him back at some point if you wanted to, which would also be awesome.
00:54:35
Speaker
But ah yeah, I would love to see the symbiote in with with Tom Holland, Spider-Man. and There's a lot of comparisons to, of course, this but the PS5 game, PS4 game. Yes. um Especially what they did with the second game. um And it'd be an interesting way. They already have a unique way of bringing the symbiote into this universe through multiverse fuckery.
00:54:57
