Podcast and Campaign Introduction

00:01:17
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, an actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I am your game master, Eric. And I am Randy. And welcome to another cold open, this time featuring everybody's favorite halfling sorcerer who used to own a bar, Milo.

Milo's Past and Unity Dinner

00:01:36
Speaker
Welcome back, Randy, to the hot seat. That's right.
00:01:40
Speaker
Good spot. Yeah, so we are going to be looking into one of the further back times in Milo's life as it relates to this campaign and maybe the furthest back cold open outside of Sigils cold open that happened.
00:01:59
Speaker
So we're going to go all the way back to six months before the start of the campaign. So we were about like a month and a half. I think if you tallied up all the time that's passed in the various arcs, but this is six months prior to the start of the campaign is when the incident happened involving Kylie and the bar.
00:02:20
Speaker
And we're obviously not going to be role playing that. But what we are going to do is it's been two and a half weeks after the incident, Milo. And you know that Sana has a unity dinner. Tonight. OK. Two and a half weeks, I would.
00:02:44
Speaker
Milo knows how much these mean to Sana. So even though he's probably not quite in the mood to go, knowing what it means to her, he he would go. Yeah. And I know we we got some insight in the last reduced the downtime episode of Milo's dynamic with like Catherine
00:03:10
Speaker
and and Sana and Kath in regards to these things. Has that developed over time since Milo's been going by himself? Are the dynamics different? Was was Katherine just as warm to Milo back then or was Katherine and Kylie more of a buddy situation? I think it was it was more of them, but I think that we Katherine and I still had a good relationship, but
00:03:39
Speaker
But, you know, her and Kylie were, you know, they were buddies. And, you know, and us being halflings, we like a good dinner party, you know. Of course. I mean, did.

Milo's Relationships

00:03:51
Speaker
Does Milo have a good relationship with Jrother or Malin, Kath's dad or Sana's dad at this stage? I would think so. OK, I would. I would think he gets on well with all of them and likes all of them and.
00:04:08
Speaker
Hope he likes them too. They like them as well. Okay. Okay. So yeah, we will not spend as much time in the preparation for the dinner party as we did last time. We did something focused on that. But what, as is customary, is Milo bringing anything? And just to be clear,
00:04:32
Speaker
Milo, you haven't received an invitation. Like, nobody has reached out to say, please come. But you would wager that is not due to them not wanting you there, more of them just giving you space. Right. All of these people presumably would have been at Kylie's funeral if you were going to a monthly dinner party with all of them. So certainly, Catherine, Maelin, Drawther, Kath, and Sana were all there.
00:04:59
Speaker
Uh, to, but, but it, it seems like now they're in that phase of giving you your space and trying not to impose on you. They've already dropped off the casseroles and all that stuff. So, right. Right. Okay. I think, uh, I think Milo instead of.
00:05:20
Speaker
buying something and knowing he can't really cook very well, that Kylie was the, you know, had the art of the cuisine.

Cooking Adventure and Reflection

00:05:30
Speaker
I think he would. Maybe in some try to honor her in some way by making maybe one of her favorite things to make and take. OK. Do you have an idea of what that would be?
00:05:45
Speaker
Well, since you had a frog in your throat earlier before we started, how about a pickled frog leg stew? That sounds awful. You put some, you know, maybe a little beef in there also, maybe some fish. How about fish? That sounds better.
00:06:08
Speaker
We can do pickled frog's legs if you want. I'm not trying to talk you out of it. That was just my own palate speaking. Pickled frog leg and fish stew. OK. Think hot and sour soup.
00:06:21
Speaker
Yeah, totally. OK, well, you you said that Milo does not have much culinary skill. And as somebody who over the course of the past six months or so has attempted to elevate their own culinary skill, I can tell you that things like doing a quick pickle on protein for a stew is not novice culinary technique. So I imagine that this is way over Milo's head.
00:06:50
Speaker
Yeah, probably. So we're not going to do any rolls or checks or anything, because that's a not really in the spirit of these cold opens. We're just going to say that Milo. Pretty decisively botches the attempt. But wouldn't he taste it first and go, oh, no, I can't take this. Yeah, probably. But at the same time, given the description you've given of Milo,
00:07:18
Speaker
Prior to Kylie's death, and I imagine we're still kind of in that phase. Milo probably wouldn't have had the forethought to plan, like to do it. Five hours in advance, so he had a reliable backup plan. It's probably like, oh, crap, I have to leave in 20 minutes and the soup is bad. Yeah, that that's that's it. Yeah, nailed it. I've been there personally, so yeah. So yeah, Miley, you have this this rather large bowl of
00:07:48
Speaker
what you acknowledge is pretty bad, Stu. Give us some insight into Milo right now, I guess, without being too much of a bummer.
00:08:03
Speaker
I mean, Kylie was his lady though, man. So, I mean, I mean, you know, it's what six months, six and a half months later, however much, and you know, he's still down about it, but you know, this is only two and a half weeks. So I'm sure that he would, you know, he's going to keep up appearances and maybe a little more somber than usual.
00:08:28
Speaker
but you know, he's still feeling pretty low and he's still still wondering how that fire happened. Yeah. You know, that's still on his mind, but you know, he's probably barely somber. I mean, there, there will be a, they would definitely notice that he's not the same Milo. Yeah. Gotcha.

Party Stories and Mood Shift

00:08:51
Speaker
And, and he's also, I would say at this point, I'm going to say that
00:08:58
Speaker
Two and a half weeks. He's he's kind of wondering, is is he just saying things that she would say in his head every now and then? OK, or what? Yeah, I got you. OK, so you take a sky cab up to the upper parts of the city. To the home of Catherine, Malin and Drawther.
00:09:28
Speaker
And yeah, you see the front door wide open as is customary for unity dinner and you see quite a few people are in there. It looks like this is a particularly joyous unity dinner month where there's lots of traveling Corovar in Charn coming to enjoy the company of people.
00:09:53
Speaker
But you do see Catherine buzzing about saying hi to people and arranging dishes. As you approach, you see Sona and Kath helping and. You you see at this stage, this far back.
00:10:12
Speaker
Sana is is as joyish, joyish and bursting at the seams as she still is regarding unity dinner. It's clear that she loves this. But at this stage, you also and Milo, this this isn't like anything shocking because you're living in a linear timeline, whereas us as the audience are looking back in time.
00:10:36
Speaker
Kath also seems to be having a lot of fun at unity dinner and enjoying it and lacks a lot of the cynicism towards it that we saw in the recent downtime episode. So both of them are kind of walking around. Is that something I've seen in Kath before?
00:10:54
Speaker
Yeah, like basically the shift happened gradually over time to where now she is much more cynical about it. But back in the Kylie days and at this point, Kath seemed to enjoy unity dinners just as much as Sana. Okay. So yeah, you can kind of see them buzzing around as you're approaching the door. You haven't entered yet. So are you going to do anything shortly before you enter or are you just
00:11:23
Speaker
Walking on in, um, Milo's gonna just take a big sigh, put a smile on his face and walk through the door.
00:11:38
Speaker
OK, and I guess go up to Kath, because I mean, to Catherine, because he has he has the dish. So you see as you walk in and become more visible to everybody in the party.
00:11:56
Speaker
The first person that you note reacts as your eyes are kind of darting all over the room is Malen, who Malen, Sana's dad, was caught in the middle of telling a story to a Korovar that had sat down with him. And he stops and just looks at you mouth slightly agape, not like he's like his monocles popping out and he's gasping just kind of a
00:12:22
Speaker
A stunned silence that that you're here. And you hear various conversations get a little bit quieter until Catherine finally stops and turns and looks to the door and sees you. And. Her mouth or her her hand.
00:12:44
Speaker
reflexively jumps up to her mouth as she stifles a gasp and walks quickly up to you, meeting you halfway. And she just. Milo, you. I'm. I'm sorry, I'm glad that you're here. Oh, I'm.
00:13:08
Speaker
I'm glad to be here. I wouldn't miss these dinners. I loved these get-togethers. You know how Kylie loved them. I thought I should come.
00:13:26
Speaker
As Catherine takes the bowl out of your hand, you, seemingly out of nowhere, feel a force impact to you as Sana rounds her mom and gives you a big hug and says, Milo, thank you for coming. I wanted to come see you, but I didn't know how.
00:13:51
Speaker
Oh, well, you know, you're seeing me now. So that's that's all that matters. And Catherine. That stew may not be the best this time around. And as he says that he's he's given he's hugging her back also.
00:14:13
Speaker
Um, Catherine kind of stops with the bull and looks into it and gives it a sniff and you see her nose twitch, but she is far too polite to give more of a reaction than that and says, I'm sure it will be lovely, Milo. Thank you for, for making it. You're way too kind, my lady. And she.
00:14:34
Speaker
She gives a laugh that almost has the feeling of a sigh of relief of you injecting some humor into the moment and just feeling like it's a normal interaction with good old Milo kind of thing that whatever kind of guard she had put up to walk on eggshells around you may have come down somewhat.
00:14:55
Speaker
and Kath also comes up to you and just all smiles and pay Milo. Dad was wondering if you wanted a drink and you see Drawther over in the corner pouring a glass out of a big gnarly looking bottle.
00:15:16
Speaker
You know, I'd never turn down a drink with Drother. Sounds like a wonderful idea. And we can have as many drinks as he would like. And Cath laughs as she walks over to Drother with you and the three of you kick back a couple of glasses as a sense of normalcy starts to wash over you, obviously.
00:15:42
Speaker
Kylie not being here, it will never be normal. But as the people that you've come to know through these parties begin to treat you like they've always treated you, not treating you softly or in a state of mourning begins to help with the healing process a little bit. You know, Milo's
00:16:13
Speaker
Say Milo keeps drinking a little bit, a few more drinks. I'm just trying to hear what Milo get drunk enough to start sharing stories about Kylie. I don't know that he would do that. I mean, you tell me nobody's going to begrudge Milo much of anything at this particular party. I think that, yeah, Milo drinks just until his tongue becomes maybe a little looser than usual and
00:16:44
Speaker
Maybe he just recounts. A couple of times past dinner parties where I don't know something interesting happened. I don't know that I want to go into any details and make something up, but no. Yeah, we will just say that that Milo had just enough drinks to begin sharing, sharing stories or remember that time.
00:17:09
Speaker
including the traveling Corovar that Milo doesn't know, but they seem to enjoy stories of Kylie all the same. And maybe for the first time in two and a half weeks, Milo has a night where things seem like they might be okay. Yeah, as normal as they can be. And that's that.
00:17:36
Speaker
Thank you all for listening. Hope you enjoyed it. Randy, I hope you enjoyed getting to briefly explore Milo's past a bit more. Yeah, it's good. But once again, we must cut this dinner party short as his customary on this show. So thank you all. We hope that you enjoy the final episode of the Goliath at Large arc with Milo hanging off the edge of a train and Milo unconscious. What's going to happen? Well, we have
00:18:06
Speaker
An hour and a half worth of content to tell you. I think that was Hob hanging off the edge of the train. What did I say? I think you said Milo hanging off the edge of a train and Milo lying unconscious. Fair enough. Yes, I may have done that. So yeah, Hob hanging off the side of a train and Milo laying unconscious.
00:18:24
Speaker
Well, we hope you enjoy the episode. We hope you've enjoyed this arc and be sure to drop any questions that you have about it in our discord so they can potentially be on the Eberron Review that will be coming up in a couple of weeks. Anyway, thank you all so much for listening. Once again, I am your game master, Eric and I'm Randy and enjoy the episode. Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, an actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I'm your game master, Eric. I'm Philip. I'm Trevor.
00:18:53
Speaker
I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. Welcome to another episode.

Train Fight and Challenges

00:18:57
Speaker
Gentlemen, what happened last time? Train fight. Train fight. Milo's taking a nap.
00:19:04
Speaker
Yes. And I got burned. Yes. Yes. Yeah. A lot of critical hits in in an hour. So true. A lot of advantages being rolled. I finally successfully used my explosive ammunition. But most importantly, we were we left off. Hobb had just made an attack roll.
00:19:28
Speaker
and rolled a despair on an attempt to fling Ram off of the side of the train and so Ram was able to counter the attack and where we left Hob, Hob was flying backwards off of the train. Here's how I would like to play this Hob and you let me know if you have any objections to this.
00:19:45
Speaker
I would like to go ahead and have you make a coordination check to see if you can catch yourself from falling off the train. Because if you fail that check, I would like you to still have the three advantage to use as a safety net, as it were, and maybe literally. So you want a coordination check to see if I won't fall off the train.
00:20:08
Speaker
if you're able to. You can grab the edge. You should catch yourself, essentially. So let me set the difficulty real quick. OK. Go ahead and flip story point, because like I need it. This isn't greed. This is necessity. Cross your toes, fellas. One failure. Oh, no.
00:20:29
Speaker
Okay, so with those three advantage Hobb, what we could do is say that rather than Hobb just being flung off the train and just out of the adventure, Hobb basically there's rope and rigging stuff on the side of the train that my thinking is because you still failed to check there needs to be some level of negative consequences. May I?
00:20:55
Speaker
my harness catches on a rivet but i'm stuck there for a turn at minimum like just like i'm i'm hamstrung i can't wriggle my way off of it
00:21:05
Speaker
Yeah, so he's like you're like dangling by your heart. Yeah, you're going to have to make a check to to get get right and get back up there. So yeah, a turn at minimum. I feel like that's appropriately despair. Yes. Yeah. So so yeah, Eris, Reynard and Kath see Hob go flying off the side of the train and just disappear.
00:21:27
Speaker
and Ram kind of, yes, and then turns and looks to the three of you. And you hear Ram say to the woman who has yielded, do we need Bobby or is that good enough? And she says, I told you to yield, we yielded. It's like, nevermind. I do job, I get money.
00:21:53
Speaker
And he starts, he's going to like, it's an NPC turn, so he's going to take his turn. He's gonna start walking away. He has accomplished what he wanted to in this. So he's going to take a maneuver and travel to the edge of the train and use another maneuver to, he's gonna downgrade his action and he's gonna hop down and out of sight. So he leaves, because he has done what he came here to do.
00:22:22
Speaker
So someone else is now responsible for taking care of Milo. It's Eris's turn. Eris just screams and races after the warforged. OK. So you're able to get up to the edge of the car with one maneuver and you see him in between the cars. I will take a strain to aim and I'm going to shoot him to strain, I mean.
00:22:51
Speaker
You knew what I meant, Eric. Yes, I did know. Would you like to use a story point? What's our pool at right now? Two and three. Yes, I will spend a story point to upgrade. I'll spend a story point to upgrade. I want him so dead. OK. All right. Oh, my gosh, I mean, yes, OK, so I've rolled a despair and I've succeeded, but
00:23:17
Speaker
The number of advantage. Two success, six advantage, and a despair. Seven advantage. Seven advantage. That's why this is why this game is fun and interesting. Okay, so for starters. You deal 11 damage. I deal 11 damage. Next, I would like to crit him three times.
00:23:39
Speaker
Okay, so that's, wait, so two more? So you roll them in order, yeah. No, so you add 20 to your crit roll is the way it works. If you're doing multiple crits on one attack, you basically get vicious two property on your roll. So 107, which is going to translate to
00:24:01
Speaker
Isn't that blinded? Didn't we see that earlier? Oh, man, this is great. This is great, especially if he makes it out of this fight and becomes reoccurring. Horrific injury. So Eris slides up to the end, like slides on a knee, brings the Fletcher up and his back is to me. I mean, you're you're you're just shooting straight down at him like. Oh, yeah.
00:24:27
Speaker
Um, so I would like to imagine that he looks up at the sound. So, uh, an Eris puts a flechette through one of his eyes. Okay.
00:24:37
Speaker
Okay, need to roll a D10 to finish out this crit real quick. And then, so that's a three. Okay, perfect. So yeah, you put the flechette goes through his eye and out the back of his head and then down through his shoulder as well. And so basically, you have affected his bronze score. So he just has this gnarly like metallic like hole.
00:25:00
Speaker
through the side of his head, but because Warforged don't have typical brains. And I really didn't kill him. Yeah. And just like incredible, like the flechette just tears up the upper part of his arm to where until this is healed and the the the scarring will remain. But until this is healed, his brawn is considered one lower for everything, including wound threshold. So.
00:25:28
Speaker
And, of course, 11 damage. And so, so, yeah. OK, now despair. I will heal one strain with my extra advantage. OK. Despair here is interesting. I'm sorry. No, I'm not going to heal a strain. I'm going to throw a boost die to whoever goes next, because there's so much going on that needs boost dice. What to do with that despair? I don't know. I mean, my moves back up on the train and starts fighting again.
00:25:57
Speaker
Oh, that is interesting, Randy. Why, Randy? Why? I was going to offer damage to the Fletcher. Why did you do that? I was trying to prevent him from thinking of that. You get interested, right? And lands on top of Hobb.
00:26:29
Speaker
If a point came where he set off the roof I was gonna say what sort of story point I need to flip the
00:26:35
Speaker
slides off my side and I get a chance to catch him. I absolutely know what this despair does. The flechette continues through his body and hits the connector to where in around this car is going to disconnect from the rest of the train. So that's absolutely what happens here. That is a great use of it. I'm so angry about it.
00:26:55
Speaker
Um, we have an NPC turn, which is, well, she, she yielded. So she is no longer in combat. So we will remove that slot. What is she doing? Is she just, she, she is yielded. She is no longer in the combat. She, she has met her wound threshold, but she like isn't dead. She's like, Hey, right. I'm good. Okay. And I mean, she, she, I'm sorry, looking down, can I see her sister? Yeah. Her sister is down there just splayed out. Okay. She's been knocked out.
00:27:24
Speaker
So what in fact is I'm going to regret asking this, but I need to. What is the danger as far as the her sister's position sprawled between the cars and the imminent disconnect? I mean, if the cars disconnect, she's going to fall through the gap like crap. OK, cool. And now I know the full horror of our situation.
00:27:44
Speaker
So the woman who dropped her sword, and it's probably disingenuous, she sheathed her sword. She presented in such a way to be no longer threatening. But she is going to try now that Ram has left and not really aware of what's going on back there. She's going to attempt to leave.
00:28:02
Speaker
which at this point, Reynard, you're the only one, and Cass, you two are the only ones with the potential to stop her. So it is now a PC slot. One of these, so Hob went, Eris is gone, Milo accounts for one of these, but Milo is slowly sliding towards the edge of the train. Reynard,
00:28:21
Speaker
You can either secure Milo and attack this woman that's just trying to get away. You can go investigate where Hobb went flying off the edge of the train. What would you like to do? Because it's easy enough for you to notice that you saw Hobb go flying off. You have not seen Hobb's body on the ground as the train goes away. So. So are we are we on
00:28:50
Speaker
the train car we were trying to get in or are we on the one behind it? You're, you're way at the back of the train. You're not even close to where you were trying to get to yet. Okay. Well, I gotta do the job. So I'm going to run and jump to the next car. Okay.
00:29:10
Speaker
Okay, so go ahead and since Eris is up there at the connection and you're gonna have to do some maneuvering, go ahead and give me a coordination check to make that jump. And I'm gonna use a story point to upgrade the difficulty one. And I'm gonna use a story point to justify that we all had an agreement if we fell, we're fallen. Okay.
00:29:37
Speaker
to establish in the fiction that you all made the agreement that if one of us goes flying off this train just leave us you can use a story point to upgrade your check though if you like yeah that's fine we are still trying to do a job
00:30:01
Speaker
Kath is there, Kath will take care of my Lord. We're gonna miss Raynard after Eris kills him. Milo's having this dream where he thought, where he thought Raynard and he were friends. It's not that I don't love you all, it's that we do still have a job to do. It's not that I don't love you, it's that I don't care about you. It's that I love money more. Go ahead. Money before people, that's the crest of the turn veil. Okay, well before I start running I say, Kath, you got this? Cool, bye.
00:30:33
Speaker
to be fair that is exactly what Eris did also like somebody else has to deal with this bye Eris is avenging someone okay go ahead okay fingers crossed one success two threat the threat is everyone hates me
00:30:59
Speaker
So yeah, let's just go ahead and rub salt in this wound of everybody being angry at Reynard and get it into the meta of everybody being angry at Trevor. With those two setback, you as you run and go to jump, you accidentally kind of shoulder Aeris to where you impose a setback die on her next check. Because you've gotten her off balance by jumping the way that you did.
00:31:23
Speaker
So, but you do succeed. So yeah, you're able to use your maneuver and then downgrade your action to another maneuver to get onto the next train car. Do you say anything to Eris as you land on the next train car? Do you look back or are you just going? Let's go.
00:31:43
Speaker
Kath has got this. I already told her she's in charge of the people. Kath is going to take her turn to use a maneuver to secure Milo.
00:31:57
Speaker
and then use her action to administer a pain kill, or not a painkiller, a healing potion. So Milo, you, you wake back up and you reduce, you heal five wounds. So she pours a healing potion and she is going to suffer two strain because it is all on her. Thanks, Reynard. To go to the side of the train where Hob fell and Hob, you're hanging upside down and you see Cat's head
00:32:26
Speaker
uh emerged from the side of the trains like hob uh how's it going how am i hanging upside down from the strap of my my cross my shoulders
00:32:39
Speaker
I mean, you went down that way, so that's just what I was visualizing, was you hanging there. Okay. You're trapped down by your ankles now. You don't have to be upside down, it's fine. I just don't see how physical possibility. How much I weigh, I'm gonna spin around that rippet or that bolt. So yeah, you look up and you see Kath, it's like, hub, how's it going? Not great, what? Help me up.
00:33:08
Speaker
Somewhere on the wind is carried back to you, the shrill rage scream.

Chaos and Disorientation

00:33:15
Speaker
I don't know how to word this in fiction, but I can't yet until next time. And now we have a PC turn. Milo, you are awake and now able to act. Okay, so Milo sits up and looks around.
00:33:35
Speaker
Oh, yeah. OK, so you see the woman who had the sword limping away. Her sword is sheathed, but she is she is walking away. You see Kath over at the edge of the train car. She's just shouted at Hobb and asked, how's it going? You see Eris with her gun and Eris looks not great. And you don't see the paintbrush lady or the warforged and you see Raynard on the other car shouting back, let's go.
00:34:05
Speaker
What in the devil is going on here? Nobody is there to talk to you, Milo, I'm sorry. Nobody's there? No, Kat left to go talk to Hobb. Radar took off. I know, but aren't we all in the same car? The train car is like 60 to 80 feet long.
00:34:26
Speaker
Yeah, Cass is over on the edge of the car leaning over. OK, so you guys are like spread far enough apart. So even if Milo yells out, nobody's going to hear him. OK, if you if you yell, Kath would be able to hear you yelling. But you're on top of a train, so it'd be hard to like understand. Well, Milo would still yell that. What is going on around? Yeah. And he's I guess is a maneuver to stand up. Yep. So he stands up and.
00:34:55
Speaker
I guess he's just trying to figure out what's going on. I don't know what much else he could do. He would probably start making his way over to Kath. OK, because just to see why he's looking over the edge, because his other two friends look OK and he doesn't see Hobb. So he makes an assumption that maybe Hobbs over there. So yeah, you you walk over and you see Hobb hanging off the side of the train.
00:35:24
Speaker
his harness caught on some ropes and stuff. Let's give him up, Kath. So you could make a athletics check, Milo, to basically get upgrade Hobbs check to climb up. Yeah, let's let's do the hat such that it is. Yeah, I mean, Hobbs Hobbs heavy, so it's not going to be easy. Would you like to spend a story point to upgrade?
00:35:55
Speaker
That's probably a good idea. I mean, you're reaching over the side of the train and trying to pull up a really heavy person, so I have to use the story point to upgrade this check because if you roll a despair, then something interesting is going to happen. Well, I can't see Milo not trying. No, that makes sense. Are you ready? I am ready. Question is, are you to failure?
00:36:19
Speaker
All right. You can't reach him like that, like Hobbs hanging there and trying to reach up and you just can't you can't get enough of a grip on him to pull him up. We're back around to the top of the round. So whoever would like to go can go, but it is a PC slot. I'm still in combat.
00:36:37
Speaker
I mean, we're still an initiative. We are still an initiative. And also we would have been out of combat, but then Eris went and horribly mutilated the last active opponent. So Eris would be thrilled to continue to horribly mutilate the last active opponent unless someone is going to take this take the slot.
00:36:57
Speaker
Maybe maybe the save grace still operating under the horrifying. Raynard will will point his bow down to the the. Warforged warforged and if you take this kill from Eris, if you take this kill from Eris. That's no Raynard, that's great. No, but nobody has made any indication that they are going to follow you. So it's clear that you need to deal with this. So OK, well, then I'm going to shoot him.
00:37:24
Speaker
Alright. Or if Eris wants to go first, that's fine too. I don't care. Eris badly wants to kill this person. I'll have to make you guys alike again somehow. If Trevor feels... Oh, that's very too late.
00:37:40
Speaker
Um, I mean, here's the reality. I highly doubt that a single, I know that a single bow shot is not going, unless Trevor rolls, all the success is going to get this guy up to his wind threshold. So the likelihood of stealing the kill is next to nothing. So what are my options to try and, uh, keep the train cars connected for a few more rounds?
00:38:03
Speaker
Ooh, you could hop down and do a mechanics check in between this warforged legs to reconnect them, which you could certainly do. It would probably be- No, go ahead. Do your thing, Trevor. Do your thing, Trevor. It's fine. Well, I don't think I have anything to do. It doesn't sound like it either could be successful. So you go on ahead, girl.
00:38:32
Speaker
OK, you don't you don't want to shoot him. OK, go. You do it. I can't make you love me. OK. Yeah, I mean, Eris is just lost in rage, and so she will. She's going to shoot. OK, are you going to aim? Yes, I'll spin this spin a maneuver to aim. I've spent a story point to upgrade. I see that. All right.
00:39:01
Speaker
Oh, my God. One failure, three advantage and despair. Oh, I hate this. I feel like it's going to be up to me. OK, so, yeah, you miss your shot. Your rage gets the best of you. Three advantage. So can I spend three advantage to?
00:39:32
Speaker
I mean, he's going to get away. Like at this point, he's going to get away because he's going to have a turn. So that's that's that. Can I spend three advantage to have the cars not fully disconnect this round so that there is the possibility that Eris can get down there and reconnect and repair what damage is done?
00:39:58
Speaker
since you will presumably become aware of that damage when he leaves. I don't know if that's enough, and maybe I'm tromping on what you intended for your despair. No, no, no, absolutely not. Just to be clear, though, just so Eris is aware, because I feel like body language and just general
00:40:15
Speaker
and he, we can even say that he said something. After that initial shot where you shot through his face and horribly mutilated his arm, he has no interest in leaving now, Aris. He wanted to take out Hob because of personal grievances and now he has a personal grievance with you. So... I'm comfortable with that too. So him leaving is not...
00:40:41
Speaker
You're not in risk of that anymore. Well, I would still like the train cars to not disconnect right now while all of my party are at the back of the train. Sure. We can say that the train cars are not going to disconnect this round. OK.
00:40:57
Speaker
But the connection is starting to get shaky. And with that that additional shot, let's say your shot clipped part of the the magical connection that connects the the lightning method at the front of the train to the back to where basically you've jolted the car.
00:41:19
Speaker
And so I know what happened. It went it missed entirely, but it hit one of the guide stones. Yeah. So the back part of the car, like for a minute, the the magnetic lift was disrupted and it's like thumped. Yeah. And so Hobb is going to have an upgrade on the difficulty of his check to get out of the predicament that that he is in because he is. Yeah, he's being jostled about.
00:41:47
Speaker
OK, it is an NPC slot, so Ram like sees your second shot and touches his face and just puts his fingers into his face and like feels the the wood fibers that were underneath the metal plating and just one motion leaps up on to the car and just goes to like. Decimate Eris. I have a melee defensive one, so he gets a sec.
00:42:17
Speaker
Good to know. Would you like to use a story point to upgrade the difficulty of his check? I really would. I really, really would like to use a story point to upgrade the difficulty of his check. He will suffer too strained to aim. Okay, one success, three advantage.
00:42:38
Speaker
So that is going to be a total of eight damage. Ouch. And because he's a warforged, his melees have a crit rating of three. So he will go ahead and crit on you, Eris. Mm hmm. Ninety nine is the roll. You, sir, have rolled very high on all your crits.
00:43:02
Speaker
Oh, it's the same one that Raynard got before. So one of your limbs is impaired until this critical injury is healed, increase the difficulty of all checks that require the use of that limb by one. So we'll roll a D4. Left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg. Right leg. So rather than like punching you, he just brings his foot up. You must describe, yeah. He just brings his foot up and like kicks into Aeris's right knee and you just feel
00:43:30
Speaker
something tear. I mean, the bone has to break, right? It's crippled. I was going to say like you've blown your knee out, essentially. So because because it's not like you can't walk like you're you're just incredibly, it's incredibly difficult. So you feel it feels like your knee explodes from the inside out and just searing pain begins pulsing through it. I mean, it just yeah, it hurts immeasurably. Yes. And Eris screams.
00:44:00
Speaker
A PC slot. Me? Me, I go now. I want up. I want up. I want off of this thing. Tell me what to roll. Okay, so this is gonna be a athletics roll. It's gonna be hard, and you're gonna have an upgrade because of the jostling of the car from the despair. Would you like to use a story point to upgrade your check? Yeah, it's not fair if I can't also do that.
00:44:27
Speaker
You said it's athletics? Yes. OK. Go ahead and roll. OK. OK, so to success, one threat is your is your pool, your result. So take a point of strain because, of course. So, yeah, how do you get up? You have Kath and Milo there. So if you want to narratively have them help you, they can. But
00:44:51
Speaker
However you want to do it. Oh my gosh. How does Hobb do it? Hobb gets up there. You know, you know, he just, he like, he gets up there, man. Okay. Back to the top. And then I want to use my maneuver to run to Aeris, who is now on the ground. Yeah. So you're able to close the distance with Ram and Aeris. And that's it. Your, your action was getting back up on the train. Raynard, would you like to finally take your shot? I would. Or what do you want to do? So there's still a thread of the train car disconnecting.
00:45:18
Speaker
Yes. Okay. Well, I would like to notice that no one's coming with me. So, uh,

Train Reconnections and Tensions

00:45:26
Speaker
go do the job, man. It's the job, you know, go do the job. It's cool. Raynard's going to say, um, he's going to drop down and try and fix it.
00:45:35
Speaker
OK, doing this, it's not intrinsically a super difficult thing, but given the circumstances, there is going to be an upgrade on the check and a setback die because the train is moving and you're on a precarious ledge in between two trains that are threatening to come apart. And that would be so it's going to be one red, one purple and one black is your check.
00:45:55
Speaker
So if you want to roll mechanics, if you'd like to spend a story point to upgrade that, you can. I thought you said it wasn't going to be very difficult and I get one of each. Good Lord. I mean, that that's an average check. Never mind. I'm running. I'm kidding. Yeah, I'll use the story point. I guess this is kind of important. Just a little. OK. Go ahead and roll. Wait, that woman's still down there.
00:46:24
Speaker
Yes, but she is incapacitated currently. OK, I didn't know if I'd have to move her. She's laying next to the connector, so. Here we go. Oh, OK. Hey, nice job. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. So you mechanics. So, yeah, you somehow, Rainard, you just you you have the moment where you're like, OK, it's like lock picking backwards. It's like lock picking backwards. Just so.
00:46:53
Speaker
So yeah, you put it you put it back together. The three threat, I feel like I should do something more with that than just, you know, you're you're stressed about it. She does not. She does not wake up. No, no, that would be a bit too much for for her to wake back up. Oh, man. I mean, my hand is still burned.
00:47:16
Speaker
Three is just enough to where. OK, because you have the thought that it's like lock picking in reverse, you're using your your normal gear that you would use to unlock mundane locks and stuff to like pry stuff together and lock it into place and you drop them. So when you attempt to unlock something, you're going to have to upgrade it in the difficulty because you don't have your tools. Cool. So, yeah, you just you get it into place, you're like, yeah,
00:47:46
Speaker
Oh, no. So. And because it's really hard, you probably don't tell anybody. OK, we have Milo and Kath left. Milo, what would you like to do? Milo's going to. What? You've seen this war for just blow out Aeris's knee. Yeah, so. I think that.
00:48:16
Speaker
Milo is going to do something. Okay, Milo's going to move up, but not like, not become engaged, but just move closer, say halfway back. Yep. And once again, his
00:48:39
Speaker
wand. He gets his wand. Actually, he goes back and picks his wand up. Would that work? And then he does a little flick with it. And as he does a little flick, these dark black daggers appear and they spin around Milo's head and then shoot towards his target. Okay. Difficulty of two. Okay. Um, I'm going to spend a story point to upgrade it.
00:49:11
Speaker
and you are good three success one advantage all right so the daggers fly toward and just I don't say how many there are so
00:49:32
Speaker
whatever the dagger one hits him in the heads others take him in the chest and it's plus one to each success and it has a critical rating of two and a vicious rating equal to two
00:49:49
Speaker
But you didn't roll enough advantage to activate the crit. So what's the base damage, though? Seven equal to my spell skill, base characteristics, plus one for each success, plus my wand, I guess. Yep. So that would be 10 total. These daggers just hit and stick and then slowly dissipate. OK, so yeah, he
00:50:17
Speaker
Takes those and there's like little like holes punched in the metal on his chest. Cass turn. So, Cass is going to run up and try to slide, like baseball slide, but then elevate her leg to like kick Ram in the back of the knee to try and bring him down a level. Eris, you cannot be mad at me. I did not kill him.
00:50:49
Speaker
At this point, blinding pain has replaced rage in Eris's head. To advantage, so she's going to she's going to recover a point of strain that she suffered before and pass a boost to the next person to act. And we are now at the top of the round. So, hey, can I have done something with my advantage? Oh, yeah, you're one advantage. Would you like to recover a point of strain? Yeah, let's go ahead and do that. Yeah.
00:51:17
Speaker
And did you remember to suffer your two straight recasting a spell? I did not that time, but I will put it at five instead of six. OK. Eris will go unless somebody wants to. I'm perfectly fine with someone else going at this point because Eris is on her back screaming. I mean, if you have something to do. I mean, I'm going to try and kill the warforged, but imagine it's the same thing you're going to try to do is indeed.
00:51:45
Speaker
So I'm totally fine with Hob running to the rescue if that's that seems narratively pleasing. Hob has three things that he three, three big reasons to want to hurt this guy now. So. Yeah, go for it. OK, OK. I run over to Eris, I I see her clutching her knee. I see what she did to him in his face area.
00:52:17
Speaker
And I'm just like, all right, this, it's over. And just go here, I'll roll first. And I want to use a maneuver to aim. I'm going to use a story point to upgrade the difficulty. I am not. Okay. Because if I don't get him, he can, that's fine too. I had scrolled up in the chat. I want to be able to see this when it hits. Oh my.
00:52:48
Speaker
That's six advantage and a despair. Reader, that is six advantage and a despair. Okay. Okay. Okay. Six despair. Six despair. Six despair. Game over. We lose. You've lost Genesis. Join us next week for campaign three. Six advantage, Hob. Let's talk.
00:53:17
Speaker
What do you think? I want to use my six advantage to convince my a-hole GM not to throw me off the train again with the despair. How about that? Oh, I'm absolutely not doing that. Don't worry about that. God, six advantage.
00:53:31
Speaker
Yeah, you try to come in and punch him and he like moves and pushes your hand out of the way and looks over his shoulder and he looks at you and says, next time. And he like leaps backwards off the edge of the train and you all see him tuck and roll best he can on the ground as you all leave him behind.
00:53:55
Speaker
I'm going after him. By the way, also, while all of this has been happening, Reynard, the other woman with the sword has climbed down the ladder very gingerly and is going to check on her twin sister. She's not even paying you any mind at this point. She should not be walking with an arrow in her leg. That is a bad decision. She's making terrible decisions right now. Aeris, I think, looks up and goes,
00:54:26
Speaker
Hub, you're not dead. No. I sure do wish I knew why all this was happening. Is he dead? He's gone. That's not as good. He'll apparently be back because now my nemesis is a sore looter. Who wants to kill us? Okay, I have a triumph still sitting on the table. Is there anything I can do?
00:54:57
Speaker
What can I do for Aeris's leg to make it to where she... Hobbs probably had to pop us up the back into place before... Does Hobb know how to put a knee back in the socket? What you could do, the actual mechanical way to deal with a critical is a medicine check. So you could provide an upgrade for presumably Milo, since Milo I think has the highest rating in medicine.
00:55:22
Speaker
You could provide upgrade to Milo's medicine check to take care of Eris's critical injury. Okay. And that is what I will be doing. Yeah. Now that we are out of combat or out of initiative order. Raynard, are you staying down there? Are you climbing up to rejoin the crew?
00:55:40
Speaker
um i don't know what to do i'm down here it's two women who tried to kill us so she she is getting her sister up and is trying to like get into the car to leave you behind like i said they are not interested in you in any capacity at this point well i think i say
00:56:02
Speaker
No, no. Who sent you? I've got an arrow for your leg, if you don't be honest. The one with the arrow in her leg looks at you with my level of disdain and says, our brother, go ask your buddy for the story. All right.
00:56:26
Speaker
So real quick, now that we're out of combat, everybody can make a discipline or cool check to recover strain just as a function of exiting combat. So Aeris can recover to strain. Hover covers one. Rainard covers one. And mine has to be below half before I get extra. So correct. I might as well just roll.
00:56:57
Speaker
Milo recovers four. OK, so we have this triumph on the table. Well, we're going to use it to upgrade the medicine check. So Milo. Milo sees what's going on and rushes up to Eris. What's this?
00:57:13
Speaker
What's the severity of that? Oh, it's high, I think. It's hard. I think you have to get over 100 before it gets to daunting. Three purple dice is the difficulty on this with one upgrade, thanks to the amount of advantage that hob rolled Milo. So just a regular old medicine check.
00:57:36
Speaker
I'm not a doctor. I'm not a doctor. I'm a magician. Okay. But today I am a doctor.
00:57:51
Speaker
So yeah, you somehow with mundane medicine fix a blown out ACL and MCL in the moment in the field. So additionally, I'm trying to remember I don't think that medicine check also heals wounds. I think it's a I think it's an either or you sacrifice the healing so.
00:58:13
Speaker
Well, you know, I have done that one before on my my father when his when his leg was blown out. So I seem to have remembered quite well. So, yeah, your knee is still a little tender, Eris, but you can you can put weight on it and yeah. Rainard, what are you doing? Climbing back up. OK, I guess I know the train car is not going to break, so I'll rejoin.
00:58:40
Speaker
So yeah, you all see Raynard emerge from between the train cars. Well, I have absolutely no idea what happened there for a bit, but I see we're all here and OK for the most part. Yeah.
00:58:57
Speaker
Yeah? Huh? What? I don't know how to say in another way, I don't know who they are. And I don't know why they're here. And I don't know what I did. Well, I asked and they said that you had some issue with her brother, the brother in some issue with you. I don't. Do you know how many brothers have issues with me?
00:59:28
Speaker
Same as you, or her, or him, or her. We exist in a world that makes enemies. And I lean over the side of the car and I go, what?
00:59:51
Speaker
What? Who are you talking to? Are they not still down there between the cars? No, they were going into the car to leave as Raynard addressed them. Oh, okay. I didn't realize that. I'm sorry. Yeah. Well... I mean, you didn't know that. You could walk up and be ready to. I think he goes to the edge of the car. He looks down and he turns around and he goes,
01:00:16
Speaker
Well, shame, I'll never know what that was all about. And he hops to the next car to head towards the front to get the freaking research. OK, so yeah, you all can can make your way towards the front of the train. Glad you're all OK. Yes. As Aeris still walks gingerly on her knee. Yeah, Aeris sort of looks over at Raynard and says, what was all that? Let's go business.
01:00:45
Speaker
Look, if I hadn't, but I did and let's go. Were you were you going to leave us? Oh, not forever. You know me, I'm always hopping in and out. Eris just so I mean, you can't Eris's facial expressions are entirely hidden by her get up, so.
01:01:16
Speaker
just looks at you for a minute and then walks on. The good news is I fixed the car. Hobbs not happy with what Raynard is saying, but he's not surprised at what Raynard is saying. So he's not reacting really. Milo has a little hurt look on his face. What is this about fixing a car? The car was breaking. I fixed it. You're welcome. Let's go.
01:01:55
Speaker
OK, so, yeah, you are able to navigate over the car that Milo is able to indicate to you all is is the target. And yeah, so we talked about the plane being kind of a smash and grab kind of deal, but what's. I mean, what's the order of operation? I don't know how.
01:02:18
Speaker
I don't know how we go about unlocking a window carefully, but it seems like if Hobbs swung himself around feet first, that would smash pretty effectively. That's true. That was what I was thinking. OK, so just Hobb wrecking balls in there and then everyone else follows or. How how close are we to?
01:02:40
Speaker
our destination? Closer than you probably like. You need to make a decision to act or go back to your car and wait until after the row has stopped because that fight did delay you by quite a few number of minutes. All right, so before we do this, what's our plan of egress? Let's say Ob smashes through the window, Reynard grabs the stuff, then what?
01:03:06
Speaker
The hope was we can make it back to our seats and just not be noticed. But we've been gone a while. How would we have done that? I mean, we've got this stuff. How are we making it back to the seats without someone noticing? Well, like getting like exiting and running back down the length of the train the way that we came and then just. Oh, actually, so we were just counting on no one following. I mean, we can make sure no one follows.
01:03:36
Speaker
without killing anyone. Oh. In fact, I assume I can take care of that problem very quickly on my own. I guess that's all right. If that's what it's got to be, I don't see I don't see much elsewhere to do this unless someone's got some sort of idea and how to like sneak in and given its position, I don't know how that happens.

Research Retrieval Plan

01:04:03
Speaker
So Hope goes in as the muscle and I grab the research.
01:04:06
Speaker
Well, as soon as see that window breaks, I'm sure that door is going to unlock, so there's going to be at least one more. Come through the door. So while this conversation is going to Eris is going to cast augment on Hob. It's too difficult to write. Yes.
01:04:28
Speaker
OK. Oh, shoot. Do you have that at hand? I don't have the book with me. Yeah. How much difficulty does swiftness add? The one where you can maneuver an extra maneuver without strain, you know, for a quick getaway. Plus one. OK, let's do that. And that is haste is what that is. Haste. OK. That's three difficulty. All right.
01:04:59
Speaker
Uh, I'm ready to go before. Okay. Three success. Um, and Reynard, what were you saying about your option? I didn't hear that. I said, I was just saying, well, hob goes in as the muscle and I grabbed the research and we
01:05:18
Speaker
Get out as quickly as we can. Remind me what your augment does. I remember what barrier does. What is augment? It adds one. It's one green, right? Yeah. Oh, no. One green. It increases your check. That's right. And Milo's. All your checks. Milo is going to reach out and touch Hob and Reynard.
01:05:41
Speaker
and cast barrier on both. So that's an extra difficulty. Do I still have a barrier from earlier? That in with the fight, he would have lost. He would have lost concentration in any case. Yeah, when he went down. Yeah, that's right. So, yeah, that would be. Too difficulty to add an additional target, so go for it.
01:06:05
Speaker
OK, nice. So that is for success and Milo, because you roll that advantage, you can use that to affect another target. So if you wanted to give Eris, Kath or yourself a barrier, you could. Milo's kind of a little bit. He thinks he's upset with Raynard. He's not entirely sure why. So he's going to give it to Kath. OK. We already gave. So who?
01:06:31
Speaker
So who has Barry? That's right. I already gave it. I already gave it to Ray. Yeah. Rainard was an initial target. That's right. So let's he would give it no takes his backsies. He would give it to Eris since she's limping around. OK, so hob Eris and Raynard, your soak is increased by three. Nice. OK.
01:06:57
Speaker
So so the plan is hob smash. Rainard goes in with the express goal of grabbing the research and what's everyone else doing waiting or Milo's going to wait in case they get followed. Like if hopefully they're going to get in and get out and as they take off, Milo's kind of planning on just hold back. If anybody kind of pops out to follow, he's going to pop a spell off.
01:07:26
Speaker
OK, I figure that's a pretty small, small enough window that really we can't put a lot of people through it at once. So I'm going to wait and see what happens in the initial movement. OK, go ahead. This is given that you're swinging down off the side of a train car and trying to smash through a window. This. I mean, I think it has to be a daunting check that's for purple.
01:07:55
Speaker
to pull this off successfully. And it's going to be a brawl check, though, because you're using your physical might to inflict damage on a thing. So you will be able to use that skill. And why not? I'm going to put a short point to upgrade. You're going to do it, too? Yeah. You keep throwing opportunities for despair, and I keep licking them up, so I figure I'm going to try to at least get one triumph today.
01:08:20
Speaker
Okay, so I have your additional green from augment. I have your upgrade, which will make it a yellow. And your difficulty is three purple, one red. And then if he succeeds on this Raynard, then we'll do your check to follow him in quickly. I would like to use a maneuver to aim. Sure. Okay.
01:08:50
Speaker
What? One advantage, one despair. Guys, I don't think this job's gonna go off well. I think we might have failed our first job. Here's what has to have happened. Is he has to have swung down, struck the window with his feet.
01:09:16
Speaker
but not gone through it yeah like his feet literally just funk and just slide down as hob faceplates into this window
01:09:28
Speaker
Well, I don't know. This game sucks. It's unreal to me that you roll so many yellow dice on every check and to have not gotten a triumph is wild. Yes, Eric. It is wild.
01:09:54
Speaker
OK, the despair. I'm not going to have you follow up the train again. Yeah, I mean, the spare has to. We picked the wrong window. You got flying through, but it's not them.
01:10:15
Speaker
It's in the car with a traveling Medusa who looks at you as you stare in through the window and Hob is petrified. That would be pretty good. It's Orgos. It's Orgos. Oh, why? Assassin! I've rolled three despairs today. Yeah, that's wild. Well, I know a way we can keep it from happening, Eric.
01:10:41
Speaker
We have story points, we don't need more, quit. I have something. So what is your, your defense is back down to one, correct? Yes. Yeah.
01:10:55
Speaker
Yeah, they they had rigged this train in case somebody tried to break into it. They had rigged the windows to have security measures. So, yeah, the whatever magic was on this on this window triggers and causes a a forceful explosion of fire to like like hit hob as he attempts to crash in through the window. So I'm going to roll to see if it does any damage.
01:11:24
Speaker
Hobb, you take eight points of damage, take soak into account. You got a bunch of soap. Yep, I've already. Yeah, I've already. Yeah, very helpful. With the with the threat, it is not a auto reset trap, so it has gone off, so it is disabled at this point. So. OK, so yeah, I.
01:11:51
Speaker
Because I walked away in anger. I didn't say that I was gonna use my one advantage to recover one of my strain. Okay Okay, so I guess we're in skill challenge territory since this did not go the way you all wanted it to. Am I hanging by my hands on the side of the train now? Yeah, I mean cuz you Yeah, cuz I mean that would have been your feet hit the window go down and you just like
01:12:17
Speaker
flatten up against the edge of the train. I did not sign up for a farce. So yeah, you all anticipate Hob swings and then you just hear an explosion and see flame erupt off the side of the train. OK, so Hob is now like pressed against the window. Surprises out the window. And in case there was any murkiness, all three people in the car turn and look at Hob pressed up against the window.
01:12:45
Speaker
Hobb says, oh, sorry, I'm looking for Orgev. I thought he was in this one, big fan. I'll be going now. Hey, you know what? If Hobb can actually see in the window, he's going to shout who's where. Okay. Because like you said, surprise is gone. Yeah. Do you want to hear Hobbs?
01:13:06
Speaker
Yeah. So so presumably the titers is up near the front of the car sitting at a desk and has some papers in front of him and the two guards are by the door. So so they're very spread out. Eris says.
01:13:32
Speaker
I don't know, keep their attention. And she turns around and runs to the back of the car and climbs and she's going to climb down and go into the car. May I make a suggestion on an easier path to get into the car than trying to get through the locked door? At the door is locked. I didn't know. Yeah, we walked through. Yeah, Milo, that was the thing that he saw when it's a wood door that has a lock on it and a guard standing outside the door.
01:13:56
Speaker
OK, I thought this was a compartment within a car that was locked as opposed to the car itself. No, they have a private car. Yeah. OK, I misunderstood the situation. Yes, I would love to hear. You could flip a story point to say that as many train cars have a a hatch at the top in case of emergencies and needing to access them, that you could try to get open. OK, I mean, that that is this whole this whole car is just them, right? Yes.
01:14:26
Speaker
And there are three in there. Yes. There's one basically like the connection is different on this car to where it's much more flush. And there's one in the adjacent car guarding the door entering this car.
01:14:40
Speaker
Okay. Instead, I would like to flip a story point and say that the window is attached with the bolts on the outside. Okay. And Eris is going to dangle over. Eris says to Cath, hold me ankles gently.
01:15:04
Speaker
throws herself over the edge or like hangs over the edge and is going to just disconnect the windows. I'm the winner. I'm just going to remove the window of the of the train. OK. Is my implant. So that uses a story point. So the mechanics, I assume. Yes. And yeah. Yep. That's cool. OK. All right. I'm good. You good? I'm good.
01:15:32
Speaker
One failure, five advantage. It might be time to just, you know, chalk this one up gay at home. Reynard says, are we just going to ignore this hatch on the top?
01:15:48
Speaker
Aeris is not going to be the first person to drop into a train car full of guards with a busted knee and a badly injured personage. So, uh, crap. Um, five advantage. Basically a triumph. Basically a triumph. The hatches right over the research. Yeah, triumph. There is a hatch on top also. OK, so now it makes everything we've done so stupid.
01:16:18
Speaker
now there's a hatch. My dump didn't have to jump off the side and slam into it. Well, I misunderstood the entire situation and thought this was a compartment inside a car, and so a hatch would have been irrelevant to my understanding. Or I would have suggested that earlier, probably, because, yes, that would be. Sorry, everybody. Okay, so, Reynard, do you want to go try to use Skulduggery to disarm whatever assured traps there are on the hatch? Uh, sure.
01:16:47
Speaker
Yeah, because I mean, that's the other reason why the window also would have made sense if it worked, is the hatch you have to attempt to unlock, whereas the window smash would have been easier, in theory.
01:16:58
Speaker
OK, so because this is a Dragon Mark protected thing, it's going to be three purple dice. But because it's Dragon Mark security, there's going to be an upgrade just built into it. So two purple, one red is your difficulty. Would you like to spend a story point to upgrade? You haven't seemed to help us much. Can't hurt, though. Sure. Ready? OK, whenever you're ready.
01:17:27
Speaker
I did something. Unbelievable. One advantage, one triumph, one despair, no success. No success. What is, like, what is happening? So, okay.
01:17:46
Speaker
I mean, how many despairs do we roll before we have just failed to complete this job? Yeah, we rolled seven today. So, and one triumph. No, I had a triumph. Okay, sorry. So, okay, here's my thinking, because at this point, like Jeff has said, the goose is up in terms of surprise.
01:18:06
Speaker
So, um, I, I have a thing that could use both the despair and the triumph in concert to where it is something that negatively affects Raynard and I mean the job as a whole, but the additional effect of it would be beneficial in that it will provide you all a means to get into the train car to get this research.
01:18:31
Speaker
If you're cool with that, if you have a better idea for the triumph, then finally having a way to get in, I'm willing to hear it. Yeah. How about we just are done? You get a call from B-Go, it's like the job's off. Get out of it. Oh, nevermind. The despair is we don't get paid. I'm fine with that.
01:18:56
Speaker
What's your suggestion here? I mean, my suggestion is like in attempting to disable the trap, you trigger it, but it inadvertently they rigged it too hot to where it blows the trap open to where now you all can get in. But Raynard is going to get blasted and potentially thrown back.
01:19:19
Speaker
So I mean, I'm comfortable. I'm no one's favorite person. So get rid of me. I'm sure some of the listeners like you. All right. Let's do this. OK, so Raynard, you do not take any damage from the blast.
01:19:41
Speaker
Um, but it is going to fling you back. So you're going to get blasted back from this, not taking any damage. Go ahead and give me a coordination check. Well, I think I'm good at that one. I'll say that yet. I know. Ready? Yeah. I did it. Okay. One success, one advantage. So you near the edge of the train and kind of catch yourself and
01:20:10
Speaker
kind of look like you did it. You open the you open the hatch as an explosion erupts and the hatch door goes flying off. Casco. Kath is holding you over the edge of the tree. I mean, Eris isn't working now. She can reach back and hold herself like her. Casco. OK. So, yeah,
01:20:38
Speaker
Cath is going to take off towards the hole and drop down in, and hob, you see Cath drop down. But they're all looking, no, there was an explosion, they're like. Yeah, they're absolutely looking right at where Cath drops in.
01:20:58
Speaker
Um, so Kath runs up to the two bodyguards and begins fighting them from what you can see hobbed. So she's assuming somebody else is going to also drop down after her and grab the research, which currently the only person who has yet to do anything is Milo. Uh, yeah.
01:21:19
Speaker
Milo, you don't have to. Like, other people are going to be able to go. Oh, yeah, I don't see Milo. Milo's got an idea for if anybody tries to chase us out, but. OK. I don't see Milo jumping in a hole. OK. Rainard shakes it off and runs and jumps.
01:21:37
Speaker
Well, we're back around to the top of everybody. So, Reynard is the one in the best position to actually make that because Hob's going to have to climb back up before dropping. I mean, Hob could smash through the window. Yeah. So yeah, going back to the plan, it's fine if Reynard wants to go ahead and drop in and begin collecting the papers.
01:21:57
Speaker
from the tithers but he's going to like struggle with you and like who who are you what are you what are you doing look i've been told you're dispensable so it's better if you don't talk to me
01:22:20
Speaker
Just absolute... What do you expect? Wow. The tither, like, falls back into his seat and is just like, okay, Hob, what are you doing? I guess I'm trying to climb up. Or you can punch through. I mean... You could smash through the window. They're distracted. Yeah, that went real well last time. The odds were against it going that badly. That's true. Okay, riddle me this.
01:22:48
Speaker
if I smash through this window, can I get in on that? Yeah, I would let that be one action is smashing through the window. Okay, then Hobbs just gonna, you know, I'm just gonna get my feet underneath me against that window and just do one good kick into it as opposed to trying to like swing back out or punch through or anything. And so it's gonna be much easier given this maneuver, so go for it.
01:23:17
Speaker
Are we do a brawl again? Yeah. One success, one threat. Take a point of strain. So, yeah, you kick through a glass shatter. Kath is trying to just not not do any damage to these bodyguards, just keep them occupied. Yeah, you have two maneuvers, by the way. They wish if you have two maneuvers, by the way, because the augment also hasten. Yes, that's true.
01:23:46
Speaker
I'm going to go up to the tither. The tither? The tither. We go up to him. I'm going to say, just let us take what we want. When we get to Rowette, get on a train, head back home.
01:24:08
Speaker
Uh, go ahead and give me a coercion check against his discipline. I get to use brawl to do that. And his his pool is one purple, one red. So, OK. Mine should. Mine should be three yellow, two green. Go with the augment. Sorry. Two yellow, three green. Pardon me for success and a advantage. Yes.
01:24:38
Speaker
So the Tyler just gets very quiet and I don't understand. OK. And give me a perception check. I'm not about to see myself get hit in the back of the head or something, because this isn't something that would be very apparent. But if you're looking intently at him, then you would notice.
01:25:06
Speaker
OK, nope, you're focused on this and nothing. That's a complete wash. So, OK, because Raynard, you're you're in there gathering everything, trying to think of what the appropriate check to like grab stuff is to not leave play.
01:25:28
Speaker
Play it like last time. Take all the papers. That's fair. So you grab everything. Kath is waiting on you all to get out before she disengages. So the tither is just like all the blood is gone out of his face. He's mortified that this giant person just spoke the way they did.
01:25:56
Speaker
Kath is whipping up on some bodyguards, I guess. Yeah. Like I said, she's not trying to injure. She's just like blocking their punches enough to where they're not going to get to Raynard. OK, so Raynard, you're able to grab all the papers. So are you booking it out of there? Yes. OK, go ahead and give me are you going out of the the way you came in or out of the side?
01:26:25
Speaker
Just go out the door, man. You're gonna have another guard. Yeah. So, I guess it's probably easier to get up on the desk and jump out the hole I came in.
01:26:39
Speaker
OK, so that's going to be an athletics check to hop up. So go in. But since you have the desk to jump off of, that's going to make it easier. You don't. So you've got all the papers and you're just unable to pull yourself up with the Canaris, reach down and take the papers. Sure. Yes. And Eris looks at him and goes, let's go. Stuffs the papers into her satchel.
01:27:10
Speaker
Okay. So can I go ahead? I'm going to pick Raynard up onto his feet. Walk right up to right through whatever's happening with Kath and the two bodyguards. Open up the door. Let that bodyguard come in.
01:27:34
Speaker
and enact my heroic ability, put all three of them on the ground, and walk back to my seat. Because I am over this. Please tell me you were just walking with Raynard over your shoulder all the way through your seat. And you're just going to sit him down. And I turned to Vitae there on the way out and I said, go back home.
01:27:58
Speaker
Yeah, so Hob decimates these three body guards in a moment. And I

Escape and Reflection

01:28:04
Speaker
have this vision of Raynard still slung over Hob's shoulder looking at one of the passages going, no ticket. So. I did not kill the guards. Yeah, yeah. They are. Incapacitated. So yeah, you all. They're even in seats. I put them in the train seats to wake up comfy. Milo pops his head down in the hole.
01:28:33
Speaker
And is that who you think it is, dear? But it is. Well, Milo knows something. You have no story points to use. You all have zero story points. You have to have two story points to spend. That's right. That's unfortunate.
01:28:52
Speaker
So I would like to propose a plan of egress since we have there's no way that we are going to sit in our seats and then exit the train normally. I propose that we go back to the cargo and as the train slows we jump off the back and walk into town by some means other than the lightning rail station because
01:29:19
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, you all are absolutely able to to pull that off. That's not an issue. And given the time of this episode, we're going to have to just you all are able to get return tickets to Sharn.
01:29:36
Speaker
and ride back, presumably largely in silence. Iris is brooding on all of the use that the item she failed to make could have could have been put to on the roof of a train. I know. And yeah, you all get back into town. And your instructions were to return the materials if you got them.
01:30:06
Speaker
to Boromar to where you got them. So the question is, are you going to turn this research over to Boromar? Or are you going to hold on to it and potentially give it to somebody else? Did Eris have time to peruse it, see what it is? I mean, I know we know what we were talking about. Would Eris have done that or would she have been too busy brooding?
01:30:31
Speaker
If anyone asked her to, she absolutely would, but mostly she's apologizing to Hobb for not making the bracer for him and expressing her deep indebtedness to him for saving her life. And Hobb is reminding her that the bracers will have another chance, that he's not really concerned about it right now, and makes some joke about that guy having a hole in his head now.
01:31:02
Speaker
Or not just in his head. Apparently he's got a through and through hole from the top to the bottom. Well, he was looking up, so it is front to back. Milo, Raynard, are you all talking about anything on the way back? Maybe we're not ready for this type of job yet. I'd say Raynard is tending to his burned hand still.
01:31:28
Speaker
Okay. Oh, yeah, you still have to deal with that. If we're all together, if we're all together, I mean, just. Bob would say to Milo. Well, if I if I may, we we did do the job fairly easily. It was the part where the people came after me. That did not go well. So I suppose I'm.
01:31:51
Speaker
I still don't know what I did, but I'm sorry I did it. It's alright. I mean, we all went on that ridiculous chase with Raynard, and you all did that job for Olive, for me, so I owe you a debt. And then you saved me up there, so it's alright. It's not your fault someone swears they've been dead against you.
01:32:20
Speaker
Probably. Hob is not going to bother right now saying, I really didn't save you today, he's because it's just not a conversation that needs to be having right now. Quick question, Milo on the ride back, would you would you help Raynard tend to his arm with your medicine skill or are you confused and miffed with him? No, I mean, even if Milo's upset, although he made it, he would still help.
01:32:49
Speaker
He's not one to hold a grudge. So go and give me a quick medicine check to see if we can get Raynard's arm healed. All right. OK, so take an extra point of strain, Milo. So suffer through. Yeah, just suffer a point of strain and Raynard, your your Milo on the ride back patches up your arm with you and and is starting to feel better.
01:33:17
Speaker
Yeah, while he's patching up Reynard and he's like, what is this about? You were running? You were leaving us? I don't understand. But I was just trying to do the job and I left you in good hands. I knew you were going to be all right. But Reynard, to me, our first job is to take care of one another.
01:33:48
Speaker
And then we take care of the job. Well, Milo, without giving too much away, I've been burned by people I trusted who were supposed to take care of me, and I don't know that I'm fully committed to that again. I guess I can understand that, but if it's a matter of trust, then
01:34:16
Speaker
I certainly hope to gain that trust from you. Well, I do value you as a friend. Well, let us not talk a bit anymore.
01:34:31
Speaker
Oh, we will. Milo and Raynard don't. I know. I know. I know. I know. I'm just I'm just messing with you. Eris will at some point get up from her seat next to Hob after she has probably napped for an hour and go over to wherever Cass is sitting. OK. And sits down and says, thank you for. For getting hold back. Oh. I.
01:35:01
Speaker
I thought he was going. Me too. Yeah. It's the least I could do. It's not evidently the least one could do. Yeah, it's.
01:35:28
Speaker
It's fine. I saw him go to you, but it's. I made something and I thought it might be with the way you fight, it's not something I would like, but with the way you fight, I thought maybe you would. I didn't get a chance to use it because I'll
01:35:56
Speaker
and she pulls the coat sleeve back on her... I don't remember which hand I said had the Artificing Glove, but I'm going to say her right hand has the Artificing Glove since she's right-handed, so on her left hand. And there is a very obviously a City Watch fan brace there, and she
01:36:20
Speaker
She closes a fist on a strap that goes across her palm and a little short blade pops out over her knuckles, past her knuckles. It wasn't that odd. I could make you one if it's something that would you
01:36:44
Speaker
You would use. Yeah, that'd be could be great. I love that. Well, I just got to find a another drunk city watchman. That shouldn't be hard. I'll keep an eye out. I'm sure I'll spot one. I'll bring you the. The brace. Thanks. Thank you. Sorry about your knee. I mean, it'll be all right.
01:37:14
Speaker
Oh, my voice. And she walks over and sits back down the top. OK, so you all returned to Charn and you all are able to head back to Bourn or I guess, yeah, if you if you looked over the paperwork, you would have seen that a lot of it is very much beyond the scope of your study.

Ethical Debate and Resolution

01:37:36
Speaker
It's it's not a whole lot of mechanics. It's it's magic dealing with utilizing
01:37:43
Speaker
There's a list of various creatures, like trolls and some more fiendish creatures that you know of, but all of them, according to the notes, have regenerative properties. They regenerate. Really, all Eris would be looking for would be to see if there's any connection to the other two weird experiments we've seen. So if there's any way this is like use of dragon shards to enhance people. No. Or things like that. If she doesn't find anything like that, Eris,
01:38:10
Speaker
Eris thinks mage breeding is kind of cool. OK. And so she's not really. Concerned. Not really concerned. OK. Yeah. So she she says it's just I mean, it's just it's just some sort of biology experiment. They're just trying to make like the things that where trolls can regenerate limbs. You know, they can do that. It's really weird. I've never seen one, but they can.
01:38:40
Speaker
You know, sorry. It's just they're trying to take that idea and apply it to people. So I mean, it seems like it's just medicine. If I'm being perfectly honest, if there's anyone I would like to give this research to, it's the sort of organization that might benefit from one day regrow on a limb for me, which would be the Baltimore. So I say we give them what we got.
01:39:02
Speaker
I would I would agree with that. I mean, they did send us out to this would be proof that we did follow through. Right. Yeah. And next time Raynard goes all crispy armed on us, they can just slap a new one on there. Right. OK. So yeah, I mean, I could I could build him a new one. It'd be better. OK, so yeah, you I could we could take it off right now.
01:39:33
Speaker
think I can build a new one is good now I think thank you but I could make a better one maybe maybe for Christmas let's let's let's take let's take the research to the Bora Morse
01:39:52
Speaker
OK, so you all meet up with Vigo at the clan HQ and you got the research. Great. And how's our friend? Scared. Not going out.
01:40:13
Speaker
Right, he is not not in the Eldian reaches. OK, so less than ideal, but still palatable. I mean, I mean, would the Bormar really be happy if we murdered a ranking member of the Dragon Mark houses? Is that really something that is that really the kind of heat they would have wanted? I mean. Bormar didn't and wouldn't have if you all killed him.
01:40:38
Speaker
Well, no one killed him then. So good. Okay. Here's, here's the research. Excellent. So 50 was the agreed upon base pay. Let's throw in another 10 for the research being presented. So, uh, yeah, 60 gold pieces. There you go. Bye. Um, yeah. And you all head back down to the for sales and
01:41:06
Speaker
or head home. I mean, it's super late. It's a very... Same thing. Hob's going home. Hob's going to Savia's, going up to his room, locking the door, putting in those earbuds, listening to some production of some classical Brie-lish music and playing along on his own stringed instrument.

Mission Reflection and Promotion

01:41:30
Speaker
Okay. And he falls asleep.
01:41:33
Speaker
Can you guys tell I'm exhausted? Yeah. Okay. So everybody goes home. Uh, then is all well at the sales. Uh, when you get there. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's, it's closed. So
01:41:50
Speaker
You just sneak into your room. An orphan's not there. Yeah, an orphan doesn't live there. OK. And Sigil and Sana presumably stayed as long as there was need for them. So. Right. So, yeah. End of episode.
01:42:06
Speaker
Hooray. Thank you all so much for listening. That was epically long. Yes, this is a very long arc, but we kept it to the three episode format by golly. That's right. Yeah, by course.
