Speaker
Hello and welcome home. episode of Welcome Home was brought to you by DVC Rental Store. Thank you for joining us on episode 317 of Welcome Home, a Disney Parks and Vacation Club podcast. I'm Tom, here with Trevor and Damon. How's going, guys? Hey.
00:00:43
Speaker
We're a long way from 400, man. well yeah Why are we focused on the number right now? Always focused on the numbers. Always focused on... It doesn't matter right now.
00:00:54
Speaker
It does, because we have to plan for our trip. Think about 350. I don't think we can do another food Charlotte extravaganza until 400, I feel like.
00:01:05
Speaker
Alright. Well, that's fair. yeah i mean That's why that number is important. It's so far away. Yeah, well, that's I mean, when you only do one show a week, that, ah you know, takes a long time, right?
00:01:17
Speaker
Wait, did that put us like, we're like a two years out from that, huh? Yeah, I mean, a little less than that, but yeah. Oh, man. I mean, if you're averaging 52 shows a year, yes. yeah I mean, we we typically don't do 52 shows, right? it terrible and That's terrible news, though.
00:01:35
Speaker
It's just a number. but yeah but I don't understand you're so fixated on it. Well, because it equates to some sort of celebration. Episode 372 means nothing. We can celebrate whenever we want. What does it matter? Why don't we do actual anniversary of the show, meaning we started in April.
00:01:49
Speaker
You could do it that way. this year anything, though? why don't we do like i've so why don't we do the actual like anniversary of the show meaning you know we started in as that like yeah you know was it he could do it that way yeah that i wait wait is this year anything now this This coming year? It started in 2016, correct?
00:02:12
Speaker
I think it was 2017. 2017? Well, isn't that just disappointing? Maybe it's 2018. My daughter was born, like, right after we started, wasn't it? was' No. now No. No? We were doing it for for, like, a year before your daughter? Okay, so then it was 2017, because my daughter was born in 2018. So, all right. So, it's 2017. This will be year eight we're coming up on.
00:02:32
Speaker
Yeah, year eight. Yeah, that's exciting. It's still a long time.

Travel Stories and Vacation Plans

00:02:35
Speaker
and It is a long time, but that's not i mean like food worthy. and ah But i mean you can have I mean, you can have a party every year if you want to on the anniversary of the show. I mean, mean I would love a party every year. was just out in Charlotte on Friday as well.
00:02:48
Speaker
Oh, you were? Okay. Just here on Friday? No, I had to go to the PXG golf place they just opened up. Oh, but what was what was interesting is, is I had asked my son if he wanted to go to Optimus Hall or Jim and Nick's. this is my oldest who's never been to Optimus Hall. So I was kind of figuring he want to go there. And he said Jim and Nick's, which turned out to be a total win because they had taken off ribs from the menu for ah since covid.
00:03:15
Speaker
Um, and now they're back. How can you not have ribs at a barbecue place? You gotta have ribs. they They didn't have baby back ribs. Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah. So, so now they're back and and that was such a such a win.
00:03:27
Speaker
yeah so that, would yeah, I mean, I like that place. So I guess the other thing is, is that we've now laid out three years of vacations. So we're, we're kind of set. So we are going out to the grand Canyon. We have a travel agent. We're like, where it's a Dundee. We are not going to Disneyland, which,
00:03:43
Speaker
is what it is. We're going to the new Dollywood ride, which seems interesting next. what What exactly is it? You posted about it, but I didn't see anything about it. The Dollywood ride. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I don't think anyone has any definitive on it, so I don't even want to say. it's more of like a vague, like there's going to be a new ride kind of situation. There definitely is a new ride coming because they're working on it, but it's inside, right? Like a dark ride.
00:04:05
Speaker
So, right. Like you don't have to give away too much. yeah Um, and then the year after we're doing, i think either star or legend of the seas, Royal Caribbean.
00:04:16
Speaker
And then the year after we're doing whichever one of the two we don't do the year before. But what I found a very good use for like my, my DVC stuff is, you know, prior to those cruises, obviously. Right.
00:04:29
Speaker
But next year we're also going to do a week at the USTA tennis center in Orlando. Yeah. And it's great. Like I can just use DVC, right? So my daughter will be at practices all day. I just use DVC. And then my oldest, his girlfriend is going back to Florida. Well, I don't know this. I'm making assumption.
00:04:50
Speaker
She's taking a gap year after college before she goes to dental school or whatever she's doing. So she's going to be in Orlando for the year. And I was like, well, that's kind of nice because she lives with a bunch of people. said, you could go down there and just use our DVC points and and rent a place, you know, for a week, if you want to go down there for a week or a couple of days, like it's definitely coming in handy, even if we're not necessarily going to Disney.
00:05:10
Speaker
For all

Flexibility and Choices with DVC Points

00:05:11
Speaker
those people that are thinking about it, like, yeah, it's it's a lot about Disney, but it's also like a lot for us, not about Disney. Like going to train for a week at tennis is going to be expensive, right? Yeah. But if I stay at the Riviera, especially if it's just the two of us, we could get like a tower room, like something really cheap or, you know, even, you know, at Saratoga or, a you know,
00:05:34
Speaker
anywhere. It's just nice to not have to add that on to anything else that you're doing in Orlando at that point. Yeah, I mean, I think that's that's part of the benefit, right, is the flexibility, ah the ability to use it for a variety different things, especially with how much is go always going on around Orlando and and that area.
00:05:52
Speaker
Yeah, I don't think people think about that often enough. Like, they just, you know, because a buddy of mine was always like, I'm not buying DVC because I'm not going to Disney for that long. Like, man, it's helpful in a lot of other ways. Like, because you're going to be like, everyone that says they're not going to be at Disney,
00:06:07
Speaker
If you're on the East Coast, you're going to be in Florida at some point, right? You're going to be in Florida for something, for a cruise, for Disney, for you know Universal, for Busch Gardens, like like something.
00:06:17
Speaker
And now there is this you know benefit built in of using it, even if you just wanted to go down there as a stop to Miami. like you know Again, if we were traveling out of Miami, we would stop in Orlando for the day. it's just It's nice not having to think about that. So just a thought.
00:06:32
Speaker
We never talked to you about this, Damon, but is Riviera like your new favorite resort now? like Because it sounded like... It definitely is. yeah i like it a lot. you know When it comes to points, it becomes difficult, right? like So it am I going to go down there? Yeah. Am I going to go down there and so stay there for a week if I'm really not doing anything else?
00:06:50
Speaker
Maybe because it's nice, but it's just... a I have a lot of points. So if I'm not going to Disney... You know, it's just going to depend on how I'm using them throughout the year. But yeah, I think it's my, it would be my go-to stay if like, i I'm not really thinking about points. Absolutely. We enjoyed it a lot. It was really nice.
00:07:09
Speaker
Yeah, well, that's, I mean, I've heard that and I've wanted, I mean, i just went, even that one time that Trevor and I walked through it. and I actually went there the one time ah when I was down this past time, we actually just walked through because it was raining and we took an Uber from there back to our resort. But um the ah DVC person there gave my daughter an entire roll of stickers, which I,
00:07:29
Speaker
both appreciate good and bad yes yeah which which was really nice but i'm also like really can you not do that because now there's gonna be stickers everywhere um but yeah but yeah so anyway yeah that's good okay cool so yeah so um like i said i mean everyone needs to kind of think about that like it's not necessarily always just about disney orlando is a vacation spot outside of disney and could be utilized for a lot of other things even if we we decided we were going cruising forever like There is definitely something to be said about having two days prior to a cruise

Family Vacation Dynamics and Cruise Plans

00:07:58
Speaker
that makes a lot of difference, you know, getting down there. And then, you know, because that first day on the cruise is tiring just in general. So having two days, I mean, it's nice. Like I would start doing like blowout DVC. Like, so if I had decided that like, oh, well, you know, i'm not going to be down there a lot.
00:08:14
Speaker
And that's fine. Then you just start, you know, upgrading to where you're staying and what room size. So there's there's always a win for for having those, um I think.
00:08:25
Speaker
No, that makes sense. It's um it's funny, because I'm the opposite of you. I have no vacations planned at all for the next couple of years. Like, I mean, it doesn't mean I'm not going to. I am. I just I my circumstances are a little strange with my with my wife's ah my wife's job situation. So.
00:08:41
Speaker
We're kind of waiting for that to resolve. And then, you know, maybe then we'll make some more plans. Although I might, my in-laws just proposed to my wife this morning. i was not in the room and this happened. She just told me afterwards, she, they proposed doing another Disney cruise in two years with the entire family. And what I mean by the entire family, I mean, both sets of my parents, my sister and brother-in-law.
00:09:03
Speaker
who ah Everyone pay their own way. Yeah, everyone paid the rent. No, yeah, they're not paying for everybody. but um But yeah, so it'd be like my parents and, and ah you know, I have two sets of parents because my parents are divorced and remarried. So I have, you know, four on that side and then my sister and brother-in-law. And then on her side, you know, it would be her, you know, her sister and my brother-in-law and their parents and then her parents. it's a I think it would be fun, though, because i will tell you, like, once your daughter gets old enough,
00:09:31
Speaker
Like you're gonna find that like while Disney has the best food and this that and the other thing You know the last time that we went was not that long ago. What was it two years ago? Maybe um My kids were just bored like as they got older. So I think it's a great cruise line I mean we loved it and I'm glad we definitely sailed there first for sure But I think it has an expiration date on it. I mean, I'm sure people tell me no, but Listen, I think people that go without kids. I mean, so it's you know, but there's nothing to do like There's lots to do. i found there was lots to do for I found that there was not a lot to do. There was a lot of us sitting around waiting for something to do, where if you go on one of these other ships, there's six or seven things every hour to do all day.
00:10:11
Speaker
So there was a benefit there um in general. But I think it's worth it when your kids are younger to make those trips, those Disney cruise trips. I think that would be that would be fun. i mean, it's a lot of people.
00:10:22
Speaker
it's only I have to start paying for other people now, though, like girlfriends and this, that, and the other thing. but that's we're like, you know, that's where like, we're kind of debating because I think that 2027 cruise is going to be the last cruise of just, or well, the last vacation of just the five of us.
00:10:40
Speaker
Yeah. Outside of that, right. Then that's a done deal. And then all of a sudden that those vacations don't happen anymore. So that will, that will be an interesting vacation, but I'm excited to go across the country, but it's like, I don't know about,
00:10:55
Speaker
It's going to be tough to be that close to Disneyland and not go. I

Disney Rides and Nostalgia

00:10:58
Speaker
mean, I guess, like I said, the kids don't want to go. So what am I going to do? Yeah. Yeah, I get it. All right. Well, so i the first thing I put on here on the on the list here is is ah just because I, you know, last time I went to to Disney was, you know, a couple months ago.
00:11:14
Speaker
And it was before they really announced all the Buzz Lightyear stuff. And so I always feel weird when it's like, I don't have time to say goodbye to a ride, even if the ride needs bad, yeah you butot needs to be badly replaced. You know what I mean? um Like, i mean, universal energy, right? Like I was, a guy had my farewell ride on that, you know, and, ah and, and also like um great movie ride, right? Like we knew those were going away. So like we, we, you know, when a rise, but like, but I don't think far better rides than this though.
00:11:42
Speaker
I mean, that's debatable. I mean, um love Buzz Lightyear. Wait, did you just say that's debatable? Yeah, Buzz Lightyear's great. It's fun. would think he would like that one because it's so competitive, you know? I do like that ride, but is it the same level as a great movie ride?
00:11:59
Speaker
No. um a Great Movie Ride's different, though. i don't know if they're if they're comparable, really. Because they're different. I mean, they're comparable in the sense of, if you ask me which one I want to go on. Again. I'm going Great Movie Ride. Yeah.
00:12:14
Speaker
Okay, the the thing is, is Buzz Lightyear's not going away, though. It's just getting upgrades. In its current iteration, I guess I should say. The the version of the ride that i has existed for the past... a lot of years you know yeah it's long overdue honestly yeah of course yeah listen i think we all knew that it needed to be done but it's just it's it's just weird when you're like you know okay well i'm never riding that ride in its current iteration ever again right like that's i mean could say that about test track though too yeah you could yeah you absolutely could i mean there's lots of things you can right go trevor
00:12:46
Speaker
No, I was just going to say, you know, that that's true that it's the same as test track, but it like, I'm not missing test track version two either. Oh no, I'm missing test five test track version one, but definitely not version two.
00:12:57
Speaker
Yeah. Sounds like version three is, goes closer back to V1 than what is. Yeah. i Like I said, I saw a couple of Disney blogs said that they they actually thought if you take out the nostalgia of it, that version three is the best of the three versions.
00:13:11
Speaker
um Who takes nostalgia out of things, though, man? it's It's hard to, especially with Disney, right? Because Disney's so nostalgia driven, right? Yeah, but I'm still not going to miss Buzz Lightyear. I know my my wife's going to be upset at that because it is one of her favorite rides. Yeah.
00:13:25
Speaker
but I'm not going to miss it either. I agree with you, Trevor. You know why? Because I think that in the same venue, you have ah Midway Madness.
00:13:36
Speaker
Yeah. And I'd rather that a million times over, right? And it it brings that same level of competition, but it's just... better Well, and this so this new iteration will get us closer to mid Midway. met you know it's It's going to get us closer to that level, ah but it's still different. But it is going to get closer to to to that technology level, at least. And listen, the ride vehicles in that were original to the previous ride. I mean, they they were old. The paint was peeling. I mean, it was in bad shape. What was the previous ride? It was... Was it If You Had Wings or If I Had Wings?
00:14:10
Speaker
Delta flight or something like that. Or dream flight was a dream flight. Yeah. I'm trying to remember which one came before it. I mean, I can look at it really quickly here, but, um, and I know it was, don't know the, the, um, all by the way, if people, if people don't know what I'm talking about, Buzz Lightyear is now closed. Uh, I, I did, so it is closed, uh, as of August 4th and it, it should, yeah, it was Delta dream flight. That's what it was.
00:14:31
Speaker
And then before that it was, it was, uh, if you had wings, right? Yeah. If you had wings or if you could fly. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, it's been a couple things over the years. So, no Buzz Lightyear, which means Tomorrowland's going to be busier than usual.
00:14:46
Speaker
is ah Because, i mean, that that ride is it is a people eater. It's an anchor, yeah. yeah So, um because of that, you're going to have more people waiting in line for the people mover, more people trying to do other things in Tomorrowland.
00:15:00
Speaker
So... Well, maybe... maybe um It needed it needs some love. is the Yeah. I mean, listen, it it definitely did. and And hopefully they're going to move fairly quickly on this. um but Because they are saying... I mean, they're saying 2026. But, you know, 2026 is only four months away. ah You know, probably... i don't know. Did they say... I don't even think they gave like a time a year. But, I mean, you know, they they probably did a lot of this work ahead of time, I would think.
00:15:25
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, yeah. Again, because it's not a full like... rip down and replace of the ride, like other rides that have gone away. And it's just an upgrade. You're right. It should be kind of like test track, you know, you know, test track wasn't closed that long, but, uh, yeah. but like I mean, multiple years, you know? Yeah.
00:15:44
Speaker
And, and I feel this will actually be easier because the, uh, um, like test track had to go through like safety testing, whereas, you know, this is an Omnimover ride, so it doesn't have quite the same,
00:15:56
Speaker
Like after they do the upgrades to the guns and the set pieces and everything, it's not like they have to like test the speed of the ride or anything like that. Yeah. It's just pretty, it's a pretty straightforward ride.
00:16:08
Speaker
and Right. It's not like, you know, it's not like test track, which i don't know he's either you guys saw this report, but ah while they were testing it I don't know if you saw that it one of the, one of the cars ran into the wall, supposedly ah to the, to the breakaway wall at the end.
00:16:21
Speaker
Yeah. Interesting. Reportedly. I mean, i don't know if it's true or not. I mean, that's let's you know take it with a grain of salt. But apparently the one of the the the wall did not open as it was supposed to. Now, given, listen, Disney is prepared for that. The wall is made out of like foam. It's not, you know, like if you hit the wall, you're not going to like have a, you know, your car's not going to get destroyed or anything. It's yeah it's not going to hurt the people in the car. The wall is all over.
00:16:44
Speaker
Yeah. Exactly. Which is apparently what happened. And I believe I've read and I don't know if they finally fix this, but the since it's reopened, it's been missing the breakaway wall. Now, I don't know if they they fix that yet or not, but um but that's apparently what people think. But anyway.
00:16:58
Speaker
Right. But yeah, listen, I'm i'm hoping to that they as much as I'd like the exterior and stuff of it, too, I feel like they could make it a little more up to date, too, because it feels i as much as it feels classic and everything. It also feels kind of out to date.
00:17:11
Speaker
yeah it you know like It's very ninety s It's very 90s. Extremely 90s. Not the good 90s either. like it no yeah yeah I hope that if they do it, though, they kind of keep the original kind of like charm of it, too. because it's like I like the you know the toy angle of it and everything. but Like the, you know, the, the animation of it that's, you know, the cartoons that are drawn on it are like you said, very nineties and it's, it's very nineties color scheme and all that. So hopefully whatever they do will be a, uh, an upgrade to that. So, but yeah, I just was a little sad about that. Cause it was like, i you know, I didn't get to really have my, like, I went on it when I was there. I just, you know, I didn't know it was going to be the last time, you know?
00:17:51
Speaker
I mean, yeah there doesn't always have to be a, like does Trevor, this is the last time. Yeah. there's There's so many things where it was the last time and we had no idea and you just have to, you know, sure say, hey, at least I got to ride it.
00:18:06
Speaker
That's true. That's true. That's true. All right. Well, so I got a

Nightlife at Disney Resorts

00:18:10
Speaker
couple of listener questions. One of them is from Ali asking, what's the funniest thing you've ever seen happen at Disney? What's the funniest?
00:18:18
Speaker
The funniest thing. I mean, yeah, when I made my wife go up for the... Yeah, the rhubarb thing, yeah. Yeah, that was it for me. Yeah, that would make sense for you.
00:18:29
Speaker
um I'm just trying to think like of funny things that I see. I mean, honestly, i there was a time there was one trip that my way it was just my wife and I, we were there and we did Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, I think twice.
00:18:42
Speaker
And both times I got picked... um as uh one of the people in the in the thing and i i mean it was it wasn't funny for me but my wife thought it was hilarious that i kept getting picked for this and then it happened like two more times after that too uh and so we stopped doing that for a while we stopped going there because i'm like please stop picking me um because i don't want to do i don't want to stand up and dance in front of like i don't want to do that um but yeah i don't know i have to think about this i do you have a good one trevor i mean i So i have been thinking about it. And one probably one of the biggest standout funny moments, what actually happened in Disneyland when I was 18 years old, that they they had street performers going around. We were actually in Frontierland.
00:19:28
Speaker
And they had these there was like a sheriff and ah and a bank robber. And so so they were like doing their thing and in Frontierland. And they took my brother the, the, the robber, like tried to make my brother an accomplice and the sheriff was like trying to arrest him. And they got like my whole family involved in it. And we were all laughing like hysterically about it because it was just the the back and forth between the performers was, was funny.
00:19:57
Speaker
And we just, you know, it was totally unexpected. Right. and and of course, you know, my, my brother being like, you know, he was, he was like 12 at the time was, you know, kind of, yeah you know he was He wasn't quite at that teenage age of you know being too cool for it, but he was like kind of stunned and like like didn't quite know how to react in the moment, which was made it even more funny because it was like... they were I think they knew that. like like they They deliberately picked him because...
00:20:24
Speaker
they knew that he would kind of like, he would go along with it, but it wasn't, uh, he didn't want to. but Yeah. Yeah. Like, it like the, it would, it made it awkward, which actually made it more funny.
00:20:34
Speaker
So you just reminded me. Yeah. You just reminded me of one Trevor, actually that I'm forgetting now, because this, this is by far the, my favorite thing that's ever happened. Um, whispering Canyon. Cafe.
00:20:45
Speaker
um So for those that I think most people probably know about Whispering Canyon, where depending on the waiter you get, sometimes they mess with you more and sometimes they don't mess with you as much. It really just depends on how how much your waiter's into the bit.
00:20:58
Speaker
Well, we had a waiter one time that was very into it and which was great. It was hilarious. Right. And the reason why it was funny is because my sister-in-law was with us and but i probably have told this story before.
00:21:11
Speaker
But she had, and I don't, I don't remember if they still do this because it's been a year or so since I've been, but ah to, to Whispering Canyon, but they used to have a thing where you could get unlimited milkshakes. yeah yeah ah remember you So you could get unlimited milkshakes and they had a bunch of different flavors. And so you pay one price and then you can keep getting refills and milkshakes. So my sister-in-law decided she's going to do this. Right.
00:21:30
Speaker
And she keeps like halfway finishing them and then asking for another flavor because she wants to try them all. And so the waitress is getting very annoyed, it's like, know, in character, but maybe also for real. I don't know. Seriously. Do you have to keep dumping out half a milkshake? Yeah. Yeah.
00:21:45
Speaker
So like for one of the refills, she brought her like the tiniest little mason jar of all time, like with one in it. Right. That was one of the funny things. But the the best was she brought one out to her and my sister-in-law is just trying to drink this milkshake and she just can't drink it. Like it's just not. She's like, man, this thing is like really thick. And then she she takes the straw out and the straw had been tied at the bottom.
00:22:07
Speaker
So the waitress had taken the straw and tied a knot in it so she couldn't drink drink through it. And I was like, that is excellent. that we were We were laughing so hard about it ah because it was just such a great like it such a great prank. And yeah i've never seen I've never had another waiter there do something like that before. you know They do the ketchup thing, obviously. And they you know sometimes they just throw a million straws and napkins on the table whatever.
00:22:30
Speaker
you know they do the little prison thing there's a bunch of different things that they do there but that one i had not seen it was almost just like this person freelanced it just to annoy my sister-in-law and it was just really funny so yeah anyway that was that was one of my favorites i'd say all right all right so this next question that this feels like a bit of a rabbit hole polarizing topic um So Chris says, Disney resorts need a nightlife option?
00:22:56
Speaker
What would you add to your favorite resort to add or enhance the nightlife atmosphere at the resorts? No. I think if you want nightlife, stay at the boardwalk because there's always stuff going on at the boardwalk at night, right? Like, what do they mean by nightlife options?
00:23:09
Speaker
Like, Bars and No, it needs none of that. Disney and... Yeah, go ahead. That's just terrible. I think that's not why you're going to Disney. Spend time with your kids.
00:23:22
Speaker
You don't need nightlife options. Spend time with your kids. It's a family place. I don't think there's, again, me, as we kind of look ahead to the next thing, I don't think there should still be any alcohol Magic Kingdom.
00:23:32
Speaker
I think, in general, I'm surprised at how...
00:23:39
Speaker
What's a good word? Like, I think that Disney in general has gotten like a ah bunch of people that are so entitled that it makes it ridiculous. Like just the stories I'm reading these past couple weeks have just been out of control. Like you don't need to add a nightlife and alcohol mix. Cause now you have tired, drunk people or just drunk people or just hired people on top of the way they're already acting.
00:24:02
Speaker
Well, you it into food and wine on a, on a weeknight. Yeah. Yeah. I agree with you, Damon, because also like this goes back to like Pleasure Island, right? Yeah. We tried know self-contained though.
00:24:15
Speaker
Yeah. True. However, they had like, there was so many issues with Pleasure Island that people aren't aware of, you know, that there, there was always police having to be there. There was people, like you said, you know, it's sorry, you're right that, you know, when you get alcohol in the mix, especially when people are tired or, you know, you know, overstimulated or whatever,
00:24:38
Speaker
um it it's a bad mix. and we And you're right. We've already seen that at Epcot. yeah you know there's one We've had enough terrible stories of people doing stuff at Epcot that they shouldn't be doing.
00:24:50
Speaker
So bringing that's limited to Epcot. Yeah. Yeah. yeah it's Again, it's contained there. So bringing it to Magic Kingdom. Yes. Drinking in theme parks in. I agree with you. My opinion is why do you need to, if if you're really that unhappy in the theme park, leave the theme park. Don't feel like you need alcohol to to enhance it is.
00:25:11
Speaker
And sorry, I, I may be making a lot of people who drink mad, but I feel there's a time and a place for it. I don't think that's the time or the place for it. to To that point, though, I don't feel like I've seen anything of like drunk guests causing problems at Magic Kingdom. It's usually Epcot. There's not enough alcohol options at Magic Kingdom. They limit it at Magic Kingdom, right? so like But yeah, Epcot, like food and wine. We went to food and wine one time. it was like right after the pandemic ended, and it was like ah a friday night and it was insane like absolutely i've never seen so many drunk people in my life walking around it was a lot of like college students and locals you know like it was just it was a hot mess but that was epcot though it was it was just epcot but i like at that point i said i'm glad that my daughter's not with me for this evening you know like she was asleep because she at the time she was you know like a baby so she was asleep and and you know being watched obviously
00:26:03
Speaker
um But like I was like, I'm glad she's not here because this is this is crazy. Like if I were walking around right now, my daughter was with me. I'd be like, we're going we're going to go home. People forget that there are kids in these theme parks.
00:26:15
Speaker
Right. I just don't think they care. That's the general audience, though. Right. That's the most of what you're getting is family. no no that is 100 the general audience i'm at yeah sure it is actually twisted yeah but so back to the question though the question was talking about the resort specifically so again yeah let let's let's man let's talk through this is what you know do i want to hear somebody stumbling back to their room when i'm tired in the morning yeah when i'm already tired from a day of theme parks yeah not really but I mean, Boardwalk has it, though, right? like And it's family-friendly nightlife, right? They have the magicians and like the you know the different little acts that happen on the Boardwalk. I don't know if I'm asking the question about nightlife options. Is that what I'm really referring to? I mean, obviously, Chris would have to give us his thought, but I don't know if that's where this question is going.
00:27:08
Speaker
Magicians, it's fine, yes. yeah When you say nightlife, I assume a bar. Club bar, yeah. Yeah. I mean, i somebody suggested in the discord that like late night food options would be nice.
00:27:19
Speaker
And I, I don't disagree with that. Like if you had, you know, like a, like a quick service open till 1am, you know, if I happen to be up, I mean, know, I like that on cruises, you know, I like, that's one of the things I like on a cruise. I can go get food at one o'clock in the morning if I want to.
00:27:32
Speaker
You know, yeah daen you you may not like that, but you know, for me, the time zone change means that I'm eating at all kinds of weird hours anyway. So, yeah you know, I just think about the amount of people to staff such a thing versus the amount of people using it. We're actually going right. Yeah.
00:27:49
Speaker
That is it. That is it. Well, that's probably why they don't do it. Cause it's just operationally not, it's not cost effective. It's not. Yeah. No. People are exhausted from their day. They don't want to, you know,
00:28:01
Speaker
you know, nightlife at a theme park doesn't exist past a certain point. And I mean, the funny thing is, is that their their, their version of nightlife is like after hours parties and stuff, yeah which, yeah you know, those are great, but again, they're self-contained because yeah, some nightlife exists right to your point, right? Like it's not like it doesn't, it but at the resorts, yeah, it does kind of die out after a certain time at the resorts. Right. I mean,
00:28:28
Speaker
Yeah, but again, if you want nightlife, I say go to Boardwalk because you you have the nightlife fire there, even though um the the dance hall over lives. You're in Orlando. Like, let's not forget that. You're in Orlando.
00:28:39
Speaker
There's lots of nightlife going on. You don't necessarily need an app to do it, right? Are you okay with leaving the Disney bubble get nightlife? If you're looking for nightlife, sure. should feel that that's part of the equation.
00:28:52
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. All right. Anything else on that one? I just thought it was an interesting question. It is. I mean, it it's it's good to talk about it because, yeah, like they tried already. they They have done various iterations of it, but I I'm with you, Damon. I don't think it makes sense for Disney specifically. I don't think there should be nightlife options, but yeah, yeah.
00:29:15
Speaker
Yeah, i I don't disagree. i i Like I said, i there is that you can stay at Beach Club or Boardwalk, and and if you want if you want a little bit of nightlife, it's right there. In fact, that's actually my brother-in-law's parents said that they would never stay at Boardwalk again because they had a Boardwalk view, and they said it was too loud at night.
00:29:33
Speaker
like i think They could hear people out on the Boardwalk doing stuff. And so, I mean, you know, it just kind of depends on, I guess, what you're looking for, right? Yeah. So anyway, I put this on here just because we haven't talked enough DVC lately. And i always enter these DVC sweepstakes. Do you guys ever do these?
00:29:54
Speaker
Must be nice. Oh, no, it's another thing Canada can't do That's terrible. Yeah, we we don't you realize i don't get to do any of these, even though I would love to. Yeah, i that's really unfortunate. because i forgot i I'm sorry, Trevor. I forgot that this is like a thing that this was shipped to. So this Disney Vacation Club sweepstakes is only open to the 50 mainline United States and the District of Columbia.
00:30:19
Speaker
just yeah yeah Just use my address. I don't think it works out. Higher probability of winning. Well, there's that. yeah there is that how many people wait How many people do you get to bring? I'll bring you along, Trevor.
00:30:32
Speaker
Yeah, the winner and up to seven guests. Okay, so look at that. i can bring seven guests with me. ah I mean, if you win, we'll we'll we'll come with you. but All right. That sounds good. I've never won this, even though I've tried many times.
00:30:43
Speaker
ah But they're giving away ah six nights in a two-bedroom villa at Riviera a ah with also park hopper tickets and a Moonlight Magic event, which you could get access to anyway, but whatever.
00:30:57
Speaker
yeah If you want to put that in on there, they should say like ah VIP access of some sort. You know what i mean? Like we're they're going to just having access and not having to like click anything to get it. It's nice.
00:31:07
Speaker
That is true. but I'll give you that. I'll give you that. um But yeah, so six nights. And by the way, this is value, a prize value to $28,000, which I mean, is not surprising to me because I mean, Riviera, like you said, Damon, a lot of points in a two bedroom.
00:31:22
Speaker
Yeah. What did you say? It's, what did it say? Seven people.

Advertisements and Promotions

00:31:26
Speaker
Yeah, for up to, well, yeah, yeah. Wait, you it's only a two-bedroom, though? Yeah, it's two-bedroom. The winner and up to seven additional guests, so eight people total. No, that's too many for a two-bedroom.
00:31:36
Speaker
Sorry. Well, oh, we also get round-trip airfare, too. Round-trip airfare. So, that's included. And transportation from the hotel to, i mean, from the airport to the hotel, so that's good, too. Right?
00:31:48
Speaker
Right. Well, it's nice they're doing something. Yeah, i get I guess, yeah, two families split in a two bedroom is it's ah little awkward, isn't it? I don't even take my family in a two-bedroom anymore. like i'm looking your Your family's bigger than then our family's, so it's a little different. But I'm saying, like, five people, and I still wouldn't do... I'd still try to do a three-bedroom. Actually, the Riviera two-bedroom, though, is nice because it's got that extra drop-down bed, the one that's over by the TV in the two-bedroom, which is kind of nice.
00:32:19
Speaker
That is nice, actually, yeah. I like i like the pull-down beds. i'm ah I'm a big fan of those Murphy beds. and now It seems like they're putting them everywhere now, so... yeah And of course, this contest, just like previous contests, is like where you have to watch a bunch of videos, which I always think is funny. Like the more videos you watch, the more chances you get to win, which is weird to me.
00:32:39
Speaker
I just leave it on the background, man. each Yeah. Yeah. yeah Have ah another tab open and just hit play every once in a while. Just like yeah just let it let it roll, you know? yeah Get all those entries then.
00:32:49
Speaker
I never win anything, though. So anyways, you can receive up to 15 additional entries for watching two bonus videos that run between one and a half and three minutes at length. Okay, just two videos? Come on. Six minutes for 15 additional entries? Come on. That's easy.
00:33:02
Speaker
You can do that. I can't. yeah You can't. Okay. I can't. All right. Why don't we go ahead and do our ad, and then we'll talk about Beacon Barrel. All right.

00:33:47
Speaker
All right. i So we have our first look now at the the Beacon Barrel, which is, ah you know, it did damon's ah Damon was mentioning he doesn't want Alcohol Magic Kingdom, but here's a new bar.
00:33:58
Speaker
um Yeah, exactly. like It looks cool. And like, I like the whole setup, but we don't need that. Especially pirate themed. Like, I feel like that's even more like crazy. Like just lazy asking for craziness. Yeah, I feel like that.
00:34:11
Speaker
I mean, yeah, it's it's directly attached to Pirates of the Caribbean. And, you know, Ram is a heavy theme there. So, yeah, I mean, like yeah I guess somebody will take it seriously at some point.
00:34:25
Speaker
Probably. i Is it me or did this come together very quickly? Because I feel I don't know. I don't know. i don't know This is first announced, but I don't feel like it's been that long. This was announced back in like 2020 or initially.
00:34:38
Speaker
What? I recall. 2020? Yeah. yeah This I i remember there there was conversations about this back before COVID. if i I just mean, I guess when it they started building it to now.
00:34:49
Speaker
Like it feels like it happened very quickly. Yeah. um But yeah, that's that area has been closed for a long time. Yeah. Yeah. But it's going to start open. It's going to open on August 29th. So just a couple weeks here.
00:35:02
Speaker
Reservations are going to open on August 14th. So this seems like it's probably going to be the kind of place that's pretty small. So you're probably going to need to have a reservation to check it out, which, you know, it's never like anything new. It's yeah just be busy for the first little while.
00:35:17
Speaker
Yeah, I do have to say, just off the bat, the souvenir mug that they're selling is pretty cool. is it the gas mug with the... with The skull?
00:35:28
Speaker
No, I'm talking about the skull at the very first picture. yeah Oh, I didn't realize that was a mug. I think it is, right? Yeah, there's it looks like there's ice in the top of it, right? Where is... they call it out anywhere in here?
00:35:40
Speaker
I, know you know, I couldn't find it later in the article for some reason, but because there is another mug here, or I guess it's this treasure trove. Oh wait, here it is. They do, they do call it out where it's there. Uh, let's see. Yeah. It's a souvenir pirate skull mug. It's, it's for the plunderers punch.
00:35:56
Speaker
Ah, okay. Yes. That's a, that's a pretty cool mug. I like it. I mean, i I, it kind of looks like it's made out of plastic, which is a bummer if it is, but you know, I don't know.
00:36:09
Speaker
Yeah, I guess we'll see. because like The thing is is, some of these things look like brass copper, like like some of the mugs and whatnot, which makes me wonder. Yeah, you're right. Looking at the ah at the skull mug, it definitely looks cheaper than...
00:36:23
Speaker
I mean, the could know it's sometimes, though, when they like make like the mugs out of ceramics, they can look like like that, like really nicely polished where it almost looks plastic. So, you know, it might not be. It might not be. But, ah you know, so we're getting a a look here at the menu, right?
00:36:39
Speaker
And ah just off the bat, a couple of things here. and And the nice thing is, too, they they're going to have a lot of it looks seems like they're going to have a lot of non-alcoholic. options as well. So yes, because again, it is a I assume there will be kids in this particular establishment. Yes.
00:36:56
Speaker
Yes, of course. ah So it looks like the treasure trove here. I guess that's the first one that's over to the left there that's in the copper mug. ah that's Was that ube, lemon, coconut?
00:37:07
Speaker
Okay. I mean, and then a vanilla cake plank, which I guess is just a vanilla cake pop. It's that white piece on the plate. vanilla cake pop. It doesn't really look like a plank, but... Yeah, it really doesn't.
00:37:19
Speaker
ah And some caramel corn and a chocolate cannonball. Okay. yeah so you know nicely themed yeah i yeah again you know it seems seems like a good one for uh for the kids or anyone who doesn't want to do an alcoholic drink well and then i i guess this other one go ahead yeah the the next one they have another one which is the cursed treasure which is a combination of coconut milk cookie crumbs topped with vanilla foam and a pirate's gold cookie so i actually thought that that cookie was like ah a coin i thought that was metal yeah that's not yeah that apparently that's a cookie so right yeah feels like it would turn your mouth gold yeah and and it's i guess it's like a cookies cookies and cream flavor i think i think between the two i would go for the treasure trove over the cursed treasure but yeah i would agree with that is there's more going on there right can we talk about the kraken's catch though yeah i was that this thing looks just gnarly i thought it was a drink but it's actually food
00:38:18
Speaker
but Yeah, this this is a salad, a cold salad. Yeah. With ahc with. Okay, i guess that's actual octopus tentacle. Yeah, it's an actual octopus tentacle. Yeah, which is fine. I mean, I've i've had octopus before. It's it's not bad.
00:38:34
Speaker
Not my favorite thing, but you know it's all right. um But it says it's marinated in lemon and lime juice and paired with olives, bell peppers, avocado, and a pico pepper almond foam. This does not look funny. It doesn't look appealing, but i'm I'm sure it probably tastes good for someone who would want it, right? The orange foam is throwing me off, I think. Yeah.
00:38:59
Speaker
The orange and the green is like... yeah I don't know. I will say the the octopus tentacle hanging out of the side of it is a pretty cool aesthetic, though. i mean it's a It is. this's for the bar special For this bar especially.
00:39:12
Speaker
you know ah There's a couple other like drinks here that just seem like kind of like straight up. Yeah. yeah i mean like Nothing exciting like that I want to talk about, right? Yeah. The only other thing here that I'm seeing, there's Cook's Corn Griddle Cakes.
00:39:28
Speaker
and So it's a warm corn cake stuffed with melted cheese, lime, sour cream, and chili peppers on top with cotilla cheese. ah That actually looks pretty good. And then they also have one. they It says one with roasted corn and poblano peppers or one with chipotle braised chicken. So I guess you can do either one of those.
00:39:45
Speaker
um But that looks delicious. I mean, that's it's you know kind of um it almost reminds me of like an arepa. Have you ever had an arepa? Yes. Yeah. yeah had We had arepas when we were in Epcot that one time.
00:39:56
Speaker
Oh, yeah, that's right. Yeah, yeah. Arepas are delicious. Yeah. What? Yeah, what do you you forgot about it. Oh, of course they did. Yeah, of course. I i forgot about everything. um Yeah, no. It it feels very very much like an arepa. And I like arepas. They're very good.
00:40:11
Speaker
So, um yeah. Yeah, and I guess the like yeah most of what they're highlighting here is a lot of a lot of alcoholic drinks, but they also have this island provisions, which is...
00:40:24
Speaker
um It looks like just like a chips and dip platter, it's plantain chips, blue corn tortillas, and toasted flatbread with a bunch of different dips, which... Yeah, again, not...
00:40:37
Speaker
but They're not doing like a full menu here, clearly. It's bar food menu, right? like that ill I'll be honest. like this This stuff looks interesting, but I don't know that it's enough for me to actually like want to go sit in this place.
00:40:52
Speaker
Well, like the other part of it, this is just the menu, though, Trevor, right? like We haven't really seen any pictures of like the atmosphere outside of the concept art, right? That's true. Okay. So like you might just go to hang out because there's going to be like fun things happening around. Like if it's anything like the Haunted Mansion bar and the treasure was like, it'll be fun to hang out in. So you're saying that you you get like you get some chips and dip and and yeah maybe a drink and you just kind of sit there and vibe for a little bit.
00:41:18
Speaker
Yeah. Kind of like, um what do you call it? The ah Trader Sam's, you know? Right. Okay. Fair. Yeah. I view it as like a Trader Sands kind of thing. like You're not really going for the drinks and the food. You're going to hang out for the atmosphere. You know? Yeah. Just looking at the menu, though, it is like I said, it's it's a lot of it's yeah I think it's way too many alcoholic drinks for being in the middle of a theme park. Like, like I guess sir who's or who is this targeting?
00:41:47
Speaker
Yeah. Right. Like, is it? I don't know. I don't know, man. A lot of people, a lot of people drink in the parks. Yeah. I just thought it would be like, i was hoping maybe that, you know, knowing that it was going to be like a bar type scenario, but it was going to be,
00:42:04
Speaker
more family friendly but i i guess it kind of already like that they are showing you know there are options for family friendly stuff but it's really stuff there yeah yeah it's still really kind of weird though like you know what i mean like it like a bar in the middle of magic kingdom though like even though it fits in with pirates of the caribbean all that it still feels a little weird i get it i get it yeah i'm yeah I'm not a hundred percent sold. And I think it's the the, the biggest detractor for me is that orange foam with the octopus.
00:42:37
Speaker
they I thought you said it didn't look advertising to you. It, it, that's what I'm saying is that that's, that's really turning me off of like, I don't want, I don't want to,
00:42:49
Speaker
I don't want to try any of this stuff if that's what they're leading with. Yeah, that's fair. I want to go to just check it out check out the the atmosphere of it. So like, I don't care about the drinks or anything like that. I mean, i'll I'll have some non-alcoholic drinks. I, you know, I had a non-alcoholic drink at the at the 100 Mansion Bar and and that was fine. Like it was, you know, it was good. But I was there to watch the show. I wasn't there for, you know, for the drinks. I didn't care about the drink part. So I think you've got a lot of people that are like that there, too.
00:43:15
Speaker
You

Disney Merchandise and Halloween Treats

00:43:16
Speaker
know? Right. I don't know Yeah. I guess we'll see when it opens. I, you know, one, be prepared that it will be very busy for the first little while, which I think that, that, that makes it hard to, to like enjoy when when the place is packed wall to wall for the initial opening. I feel like you're not going to get that the right experience.
00:43:36
Speaker
Like it needs some time to, for like everyone to kind of get over the hype of it. And then, Check it out. or That's my opinion. know i I would never like go somewhere like this like day one. I would you know give it six months kind of thing before I check it out.
00:43:49
Speaker
Okay. Yeah, I get that. That makes sense. ah So, the next thing I put in here was some Lurkana. I mean... i mean Have you, have you been doing anything with this, Trevor? Have you been doing Larkana or like, no, I haven't bought any Larkana cards or anything like that. Um, I'm, I'm aware of it. I've, I've read about it. It definitely, it has some remnants of magic, the gathering to me, because I, I used to play magic a lot. Um,
00:44:19
Speaker
But yeah, I see that. All right. Put this or you put this on here because it's ah um andaron youre it's a new set. Right. and And because the cards are Max and Powerline from ah Goofy Movie. is it Is it me or is and I know it's an anniversary of this this year, but I feel like the past year that Disney has been absolutely obsessed with with oh both Powerline and Max Goof.
00:44:47
Speaker
showing up yeah they're they're they're milking uh the goofy movie anniversary for sure is that i mean is it just because of that because like or is it just like is there a thing going on with younger people that are like somehow into this all of a sudden like i'm just confused by it it's just weird all of a sudden it's everywhere you know so i guess so the thing for me or i guess i i'm a little bit older so you know i saw a goofy movie it was nice you know i i was like yeah it was it was a fun disney movie and all that i know I know people probably 10 years younger than me seem to be much more attached to it like it. It was kind of in that sweet spot. I don't even know what the actual age range is, but in a certain age range, particular shows and movies and stuff like really resonate with you.
00:45:34
Speaker
yeah yeah There is a whole section of people that you know this really resonated with them, and that that's fine. so yeah Obviously, Disney is... you know, taking that upon themselves to, you know, Hey, we got power line, everything for you, including playing cards.
00:45:52
Speaker
yeah Yeah, exactly. I just, I've noticed that it's showing up in everything, like even in like the new, ah you know, what's it called? World of color over at Disneyland. They, they had, they have a thing in there with, with,
00:46:03
Speaker
with ah that movie. And, you know, I feel like they've been doing meet and greets with them. Like they've been showing up in, in parades and stuff. Like it's, it's just weird. I know it's again, I know it's an anniversary thing. It's just, there's a lot of things that have anniversaries that they don't play up nearly as much, you know, aren' isn't max in the, in the Halloween parade too. Or did I see that right?
00:46:25
Speaker
i think he's at least meeting guests at the Halloween. Like, I think he's doing a meet and greet, but ah he you might be, I have to, I'd have to look again.
00:46:34
Speaker
But speaking of Halloween, Trevor. Yeah. More Halloween stuff. We didn't talk about this last week, but... There's more Halloween stuff. No, listen. Okay. There There's a couple of So...
00:46:46
Speaker
Okay. So I find it funny. You keep linking the same article for Halloween merchandise. Yeah. They keep adding stuff to it. Yes. They keep adding. they with new they They're doing a slow merch release is what they're doing.
00:47:00
Speaker
um But what's interesting about this newest line is that they are through Amazon and they're through their on-demand service where they print stuff on demand and send it to you. Which is interesting to me that they're doing this.
00:47:13
Speaker
I don't really know why. like i don't know. Are they just throwing stuff in like last minute that they didn't have time to print? So they're doing it with Amazon so that they can print on demand. And, you know. Yeah, it's I don't.
00:47:29
Speaker
You're right. I don't know what the intent is there. me Or maybe, yeah, that maybe they realize that print on demand stuff is better because you don't have to manufacture a whole bunch of merch that they have to ultimately sell at a discount because yeah it, especially the the the holiday merch, right? Like anytime yeah Halloween or Christmas, like you have a certain amount of it that gets bought, but then you know, ah it's, it's the same kind of problem you see at like Target or wherever that, you know, the day after Halloween, everything is on sale, like 80% off. Right. that's what i bought candy yeah Yeah, exactly. So I, I feel like Disney's maybe approaching this the same way that they're saying, you know, Hey, we have these shirt options on, you know, you know, print on demand service means they're not wasting ah ton of a ton of manufacturing money and whatnot. Yeah.
00:48:18
Speaker
It's just weird because you think that Disney could just do this themselves instead of partnering with Amazon, that they could but probably just large enough that they could do a print on demand thing. and But then they got to spend the time and the money setting it up. Why would they not just leverage?
00:48:31
Speaker
so leverages Yeah, because I got to share the profits. But the the two they're showing on here, there's some stitch ones, right? And, you know, maybe they're just trying to grab onto the the moment of so of, you know, stitch being so big that I mean, it was the biggest movie of the year as far as box office goes. Right. So, I mean, know I'm sure they assumed it was going to do well, but probably not as well as it did. So they probably want to put as much stitch stuff out there as they can.
00:48:54
Speaker
Right. Like, yeah and i mean yeah like i mean I don't really think of Stitch when I think of Halloween, but... Sure. Stitch-A-Wee. They can put them on everything. yeah yeah I know. but yeah The guy with the mullet has like ah has like a Happy Halloween one with Stitch with like a little pumpkin helmet on. I like that one better than the Stitch-A-Wee one.
00:49:17
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Well, then there's, uh, there's some monsters Inc. ones that are a little too bright for my taste. I can see my daughter wearing one of these maybe, but not, you don't want to, you don't want like a bright lime green. No, I don't.
00:49:32
Speaker
Yeah. Not my, but not my, not my style, man. That's just not my myself. I will tell you what is my style though, is this Mickey's Halloween trick or treat candy company. The one that's all the way down here. That's the last one. Uh, that one is cool.
00:49:43
Speaker
I, I, I like the vibe of that one. I would, I would absolutely get that one. Okay. Yeah. i yeah I'm actually like looking at that scream team hoodie. Like I, you like that one.
00:49:54
Speaker
Yeah. I think, you know, it's, it's, It has some busyness going on to it, but you know, it's still, don't It seems like a good Halloween time hoodie.
00:50:07
Speaker
i yeah I guess around here we are wearing hoodies at Halloween. I don't know about. Depends. Depends on the year, man. Sometimes it's cool. Sometimes it's 85 degrees. You never know. we We need a good hoodie. So the fact that they're, you know, the fact that they're selling, you know, a decent hoodie and in the midst of all these shirts isn't a bad thing for me.
00:50:26
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. I like how you skipped over all the Nightmare Before Christmas stuff. I feel i did that for you, Trevor. I know how much you hate it. i didn't want to trigger you. i
00:50:38
Speaker
It's only when we're talking about the Haunted Mansion overlay. I mean, if they want to if they want to sell merch, they can sell merch and it's fine.
00:50:47
Speaker
They also have these ah new Disney wishable things and also Squishmallows, which my daughter is obsessed with Squishmallows. Yeah, I was going to ask if you're like, are you a Squishmallow family? Because i I don't personally get the whole attraction of Squishmallows, but I also was never into like...
00:51:06
Speaker
I'm going to be dating myself saying this, but like beanie babies and stuff like, like back in the nineties, you're also not seven years old. So, but, but it seemed like there's there's still like a a cross section of people that it doesn't matter the age. They still just like buy all this kind of stuff, which, you know, it's fine if you're into those kinds of collectibles, but I just don't, I don't quite understand the draw of tiny little plushies, I guess.
00:51:33
Speaker
I get it. my sister My sister, my daughter is all about these. I did think it was interesting that they mentioned updated designs and collector-friendly packaging. What does that mean? Does it just mean like it it's easy to display? i mean, i don't know.
00:51:48
Speaker
just They don't really show it anywhere here, so I don't really you know see it. maybe Maybe means you can actually take it out of the box without wrecking the packaging. i don't know. Yeah, I'm actually, I just went on on on Disney Store right now. and i it So it looks like they come in like these, like, how is this collector friendly? It's like a cardboard box, basically. It's, it's.
00:52:08
Speaker
Right. I don't know what this means.
00:52:14
Speaker
These are expensive. What are they? How bad are they? Actually, you know what, though? Okay, never mind. It's not. Because it's $18 and it looks like you get five of them. I thought it was $18 for one of them. Get out of here. Those are $18 a pop. Oh, boy. Okay, so these come in sets is what it is. guarantee you if I bought these for my daughter, she would lose her mind.
00:52:36
Speaker
She would absolutely love these. Which ones would you be getting for her? That's a tough question. Probably, I mean, hmm. I don't know. i I would probably get her the just the Fab Five one. I mean, that's that's fine. and I mean, she would she would like that by itself. Right.
00:52:54
Speaker
Yeah, I would think I could be wrong. But I mean, the the villains ones kind of said is kind of nice. But the the weird or weird, but I guess kind of or the one that's getting my attention is the yeah Hocus Pocus set because it's ah it's the Sanderson sisters.
00:53:12
Speaker
Oh, yeah, that's pretty cool. Binks and Danny, which like. yeah I never thought I would see like a Danny um plush anything anywhere.
00:53:22
Speaker
but yeah yeah It's an interesting callback to the movie, but again, I get it. You know, it's this time of year that they, they do lean in on the hocus pocus stuff now because it has become a cult classic. So, yeah, yeah, exactly.
00:53:37
Speaker
So, all right. Well, we didn't need to talk too much about that. I just needed to bring, no, it's, it's interesting. I, like said, I i never, um, I've seen squish mallows, but, yeah, I, I didn't realize that they were, or there, there seems to be a whole other like world to collecting those.
00:53:55
Speaker
Yeah, that you're just not aware of, right? Wait, yeah, okay. So, all right, cool. So, the we were i wanted to I know we already did Halloween food, but there's more Halloween food because Disney is, for whatever reason, deciding to release things very slowly and it's you know forcing us to cover the same topics week after week.
00:54:15
Speaker
But, I mean, it's different food. I mean, we don't we don't have to cover it week after week. Here's the thing, though. There's some cool looking stuff in here. OK, well, so with this list, so to avoid doing what we did last week, which was taking way too long going through every. No, no, this is is a shorter one. This is much shorter. This is shorter.
00:54:34
Speaker
I disagree with you that this is shorter. I've looked through this list and there is a lot like it's a long list and there are new things thrown throughout it So why don't we just pick a couple then? Okay. Let's, let's, yeah I'll, I'll pick out some things that stand out to me. So over at Disney Springs, Jock Lindsay is Jock Lindsay's hangar bar, which is a place that's on my list of wanting to go. i have not been yet, but they're doing Jock Lindsay's Halloween hangar bar.
00:55:01
Speaker
And they're doing alien invader sliders, which is crispy natural hot fried chicken, sliced provolone, dill pickle slices, cheddar chive biscuit, and queen olives. The olives, however, are... Well, look, the cheese... Yeah, good. Yeah. The the the whole thing is comprised to look like a weird alien thing. Yes. And the olives make the eyes sticking up off of the...
00:55:26
Speaker
It reminds me of, ah real monsters. Remember that show where the monster that held up his eyes. That's kind of what it looks like. Right. Yeah. isn Cause the eyes are like, uh, you know, up top, uh, on top of toothpicks.
00:55:38
Speaker
And then it looks, I guess that's the cheese that's cut into like teeth and then, ah a tongue, uh, a, a pickled tongue. It's pretty great. Yeah. Talking about themed Halloween food, right? I mean... Yeah, I mean, yeah. Jock Lindsay is definitely ah leaning in hard on it this year, which, again, you know, I said this before, is, you know, properly themed food is definitely, you know, makes it...
00:56:03
Speaker
Makes me want to go and and visit places like this. Honestly, I think Jock Lindsay kind of won on one. They definitely won this. They 100% won this.
00:56:14
Speaker
They had, or there was that the cursed mummy sausages are cute. They're picked in a blanket that they drew eyes on and they put in a sarcophagus. Yeah. And then, and then the phantom dumplings, which are chicken and pork dumplings in rice paper served with a teriyaki dipping sauce.
00:56:32
Speaker
These things like the the dumpling wrapper looks just yeah like, yeah, it does. But the right, basically they say wrapped in, but it's not really wrapped in. It's thrown over the top. or Yeah. Yeah. It's just a, just like a rice paper thing draped over a ball of meat.
00:56:49
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's like if you needed to do a last minute Halloween costume and just grabbed a sheet and cut two holes in it. That's basically what they did on this. But it still, I think, looks pretty cool. I still like it. um I don't know. I still like it. And then there's they also have the zombie eye bites, which are seemingly just deviled eggs with some crispy fried chicken aht underneath.
00:57:09
Speaker
And they look like eyeballs? To look like an eyeball, yeah. Now, do you suppose that they come in these fancy boxes that they're showing in If they don't, then I'm disappointed because it's false advertising. Because there's the the coffin yeah and that the the ah pigs in a blanket come in.
00:57:24
Speaker
And then these eyes are like in a box with like... It looks like it's got like some... I don't need, yeah, it's like, like logos or something like I've never seen anything like it. Like it's not, this is not like Disney stuff. This is no Jock Lindsay stuff.
00:57:38
Speaker
i Listen, I, if it doesn't come out in that wooden box to me, I would be very disappointed. I, that would be a bummer for me. I would, I would be like, this is false advertising. You've, you've ruined this for me.
00:57:50
Speaker
ah they also have like a, a one where they burnt a skull into the top of it, which is just like, it's basically just like little quesadillas kind of right. Yeah. So, yeah, i mean, that's cool, too.
00:58:03
Speaker
I'm trying to figure out where, do they even list that? Oh no, that's that's the skull of the dead. okay Yeah, the skull of the dead, mojo pork, cheddar, flour tortilla, pico de gallo. So yeah, it's like basically a little quesadilla kind of thing. yeah I do like this drink on the end that has a ghost marshmallow on the top of it that is ah skewered with a toothpick.
00:58:27
Speaker
I think that's the ah the spike trap. Yeah, that's pretty funny, actually, because the ghost looks like, oh, I got spiked. like It's just kind of funny. ah Well, those i mean, listen, I think that they win the game. But are there other ones that ah that stand out to you that are are are really cool? I mean, i mean, like I said, i've I've looked through this list and, you know, you know, Amoritz has had their usual.
00:58:51
Speaker
Selection of mini cakes and stuff, which, you know, they're always great. But um ah yeah, I think Jock Lindsay's was by and far the most impressive lineup of food that I've seen on this list.
00:59:05
Speaker
Because there everything else is very like, oh, there's like a waffle with a there's a waffle with like the and Louie on it. And I'm like, okay.
00:59:16
Speaker
It's like, what it what it what does that what does that do for me? ah Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it's it's all, the like you know, goes back to the, you know, they're using the chocolate wafer with a printed thing on it, which is cute. But it's very hard to compete with the what Jock Lindsay's is doing.
00:59:36
Speaker
I have to say, though, this vampire stitch mini cake from a Polynesian, though, is pretty cool. uh, that's been there previous years though. Hasn't it? I know. I think it has. Yeah. I, I doesn't say that it's new, but I, I do think it's pretty good. remember, I remember seeing that in, or either, either we talked about it or I saw it because, uh, we, we had a ah trip in the fall once and I was kind of looking at that stuff and,
01:00:01
Speaker
It seems like that's their go-to Halloween thing at the Polynesian. It is cool, though. It is cool. i I do like this ah from Emirates, like you mentioned, the chocolate chunk Halloween sprinkle cookie. like it It's not the most themed thing in the world, but it looks delicious. I want i want to eat it.
01:00:17
Speaker
You know, like, i mean, that's, that's really my criteria at the end of the day. Do I want to eat it? Answer. Yes. So actually, Oh, here we, we, we got a weird one here that, you know, that this, this makes me sad because I feel like the amount of people that will actually try this is very small. So at where's this that at the campsites at Disney's Fort wilderness resort, Oh, uh, trails and restaurant, there is a headless horseman pop, which has It has the chocolate piece on it, with you know and they have like a little picture of the Headless Horseman, but the the the chocolate pop itself... like and Colors.
01:00:59
Speaker
Yeah, it's the purple and orange. It's made to kind of look like fire, which is is very cool. like it didn't i mean It didn't need the Headless Horseman thing. I get why they did it like It's like the cape and the the flaming pumpkin kind of blending together, but The problem is, is that this is at Fort Wilderness. All the way to Trails End, yeah. Yeah, like that's out way. can't even mention what it is, though, too. It's a chocolate chip cookie dough and brownie dipped in white chocolate with a chocolate piece. That's a classic combination for me.
01:01:28
Speaker
um But you got go real far to get it. Yeah, do. Yeah. Unless you're already at Fort Wilderness, that one's kind of a no go. Right. I mean, no, it's not easy. Like I said, looking, looking through this list, that's like the only, or there was that. And then there's a pumpkin sugar cookie, which is whatever.
01:01:48
Speaker
It's nothing fancy, but like out of all the places that they could have done new food, they went here.
01:01:59
Speaker
for trick Yeah, I know. is Right? right like Oh, wait, can I direct you? Wait, Trevor, can I direct you to the ganachery for the poison apple chocolate pinata?
01:02:11
Speaker
Okay, I did skip over that because, like I said, the ganache is... oh it's amazing. Yeah. Well, again, like I said, that the thing is is that it's you know they they always have a selection of... Oh, yeah.
01:02:22
Speaker
Yeah, I see it now. um Yeah, you know, they always have a selection. ah Like, the ganache and Amarats both do just amazing stuff all year round anyway. So I just kind of assume it's like whatever whatever is there at the time is... It's going to be fantastic.
01:02:38
Speaker
But yeah, this piccato is very cool, though. This pinata is awesome. It looks just like the poison apple. and And it's like, it's just really well done. I wonder... Yeah, it looks like they laid like green fondant over top of the apple, which I mean, that's... That's pretty cool.
01:02:54
Speaker
That's pretty impressive too. I'm guessing... a One, it it's the ganachery. So, you know, they they took time to make it. But I feel like that there can't be too many of these or they have a limited amount that they're selling because these take time to make.
01:03:11
Speaker
Right. Oh, yeah. There's no way that they're they're doing whole bunch of these. I'm sure there's a fair. But the other part of it, too, though, is that it's filled with cinnamon, apple marshmallows, which just sounds delicious. It's kind of an apple marshmallows.
01:03:23
Speaker
Right. How have I never had that combination of marshmallows before cinnamon and apple? Yeah, I think. I think I would actually like that. I know you're or you're a s'mores fan, but I think I would like that more than s'mores.
01:03:34
Speaker
Really? Okay. Yeah. Yeah, it's fair. ah cinnamon Cinnamon, apple, and chocolate. I mean, it's not all that far off, right? you just you're you know You're just adding some cinnamon in there, right? Yeah. right. Yeah. Well, I said it's, yeah you know, an interesting selection of of stuff that they're adding again. Yes. You know, and we've we've talked about this before, but they keep adding stuff and whatnot. and And I guess if you happen to be staying at Fort Wilderness, you can enjoy a great headless horseman pop. But if you haven't too bad.
01:04:03
Speaker
Yeah. listen i want I just want to go to Jock Lindsay's for, and I want to get all these things. Yeah. Jock Lindsay's is definitely on the list right now for yeah like somewhere that I would like to go check out at Halloween because yeah they they're definitely killing it.
01:04:17
Speaker
they They absolutely are. No pun intended. No, that that that pun was there. Oh, I left it. I left it there. Sorry. I ruined your pun.
01:04:28
Speaker
All right. Unless you have anything else to talk about. Let's wrap her up. What about the or just the last thing was they have this Mickey Mouse ah ghost popcorn bucket, which looks incredibly cute.
01:04:39
Speaker
i Did they have that one in the past? Is that a new one? This is new. Oh, I thought so. I thought that wasn't a new one. the The Pluto. um Yeah, the Pluto one isn't new, right? Okay. so oh No, no no it's say it says the Pluto one's new, but I've seen a similar one to the Pluto one. or They've had Pluto yeah sippers, but... oh you're talking about the ghost.
01:04:59
Speaker
Oh, yeah, that is really adorable. Yes. Basic, but adorable. Well, it's it's, but it's also like a decent popcorn bucket. Like it's not it's actually God follow you for popcorn. it's It's shaped like a, like a cylinder and then has all the extra stuff on it. But yeah, it's, it's very cute. I think that's a, that's a good Halloween popcorn bucket that they've done. I would agree.
01:05:22
Speaker
I agree. Yeah. right. Yeah. right. I think that that's a good, but we covered a lot of stuff this week, which hopefully, hopefully they, they so are, you know, it's weird. They, they've been pushing the Halloween stuff, but we've not heard anything about food and wine menu yet. It is little odd, isn't it? Cause food and wine is soon. Yeah.
01:05:44
Speaker
i didn't see that I did see that New Found Glory has been added to the Eat to the Beat lineup, which I thought was an odd addition for Epcot, but that's neither here nor there. Sure. If you know who New Found Glory is. i don't. Okay. Well, you know, yeah.
01:05:59
Speaker
That's just a little bit of a weird one for Epcot in my mind, but. I'll take your word for it. I mean, there's there's a lot of bands on there that I would be like, I don't know. I don't know what the audience is for them because I'm not the audience.
01:06:12
Speaker
I mean,

Entertainment and Community Engagement

01:06:13
Speaker
that's fine. They're kind of, they're like a punk rock band. I mean, like ah punk rock doesn't feel like it very well into that. Interesting. Yeah. But I mean, we do have Bowling for Soup, which is kind of punk pock.
01:06:25
Speaker
Yeah. yeah Yeah. You're not wrong. Yeah. Yeah. right. All right. Cool. mean, and Newfound Glory is kind of pop punk too. So, yeah. So kind of in the same vein, though it sounds. Yeah. Yeah.
01:06:38
Speaker
Yeah. All right, let's wrap her up. All right, yeah. um Yeah, so I guess that's me now, isn't it? um Yeah, it is you. You have to do this, yeah. Yeah.
