New Intro Credits and Audience Engagement

00:02:32
Speaker
Welcome, everybody, to Speedway Stories. It's your boy, Wally, here. Courtesy that new intro is a bunch of former guests and some and some pictures and stuff I took.
00:02:44
Speaker
But the song itself is personally done by the network's very own, Rock Lee. i want to give a shout out to Rocky for putting that song together for me and everything else for my new intro.
00:02:55
Speaker
I hope everybody enjoys it. I know we got the 4th of July weekend coming up and everything else. I hope everybody has a safe weekend and everything.

Ohio Racing Updates and Upcoming Events

00:03:05
Speaker
Racing, hanging out, cooking out and all that stuff.
00:03:10
Speaker
I just figured get on here tonight. Good morning, Pat. How you doing, buddy? Thanks for tuning in, man. I appreciate you. But, yeah, โ€“ and also, if anybody's got any free time that was former guests that I could remember,
00:03:26
Speaker
uh, your emails and stuff. I sent you guys links out. If you guys want to come up and shoot shit and hang out tonight. Um, it's going to be a hangout session. Um, first actual rough truck race of the fair season here in Ohio, uh, was this past Monday.
00:03:45
Speaker
some of my buddies, uh, didn't end up racing. Some of them that did, did pretty good this, this past Monday night for the first race of the year.
00:03:56
Speaker
Unfortunately, one of the former guests and good friends of mine, uh, got his truck put back together and had a little hiccup Monday night, unfortunately, and, uh, destroyed, destroyed his new body and stuff and everything. Uh, unfortunately for the first race of the season. So he's working on it and everything else, getting it back ready together for the next race, which comes up July

Racer Achievements and Challenges

00:04:19
Speaker
18th. It's actually our first points race.
00:04:22
Speaker
Um, But some of the guys has already been racing a couple of monster truck shows and stuff out of state and everything that and they've all done pretty good. Jason Daniels, Dale Workman, Jared Stevenson, Brad Talbert, Wes Daivari. They were all they've all went down and raced it and everything else. Tyler Peters.
00:04:44
Speaker
They were showing up and everything else. Racing the full throttle monster truck show, tough truck point series so far. that seems to be going pretty good for the guys and stuff. Uh, they started out. All right. Some of them still working their bugs and stuff and everything out on, uh, on a lot of their, their trucks, getting them ready for, like I said, the Ohio points, um, Pat, i hopefully everything's going good out your guys'

Community Support and Morgan's Story

00:05:11
Speaker
is way. Um, I seen too. Evan, if you got your ears on man out there, uh,
00:05:17
Speaker
That's a badass Bronco. Can't wait to see you get the bugs worked out of it for your first couple races and stuff, man. That was awesome. um Also, do me a favor. I know June 27th, we were supposed to have a special Speedway Stories um with Morgan coming back from Matt Motorsports.
00:05:35
Speaker
You guys all out there could send a little prayer for him and stuff still. I know he said things are okay and stuff, but he had a family emergency and unfortunately we had to reschedule for that, but I just want everybody to send a prayer out to him and well wishes and stuff.
00:05:53
Speaker
He's a good dude. to Everything else really enjoyed having him excited to get him back up here on the show tonight. Sometime maybe he might sneak in the chatters box. I know he works on Thursdays, but I really enjoy having him and I really enjoy actually having everybody up here on the show.
00:06:11
Speaker
Even in the, if can't be on the show, still supporting the show and the chatters box and everything. You guys are, it means a lot to me, especially the motorsports world.

We Broke Garage Recap and Family Involvement

00:06:24
Speaker
I just, I never pictured of having the, let alone our network having the following, but my own personal show, uh, my passion and everything else for motorsports and then having everybody involved in it to share their stories, um, their experiences, um,
00:06:45
Speaker
I mean, it's it is it's great. And
00:06:50
Speaker
these guys you guys have been phenomenal. I'm still supporting. even on I still get Facebook messages from former guests. We still stay in contact. um Pat, pretty much any time I have a show, the the man's in in the comment sections if he's not working working or anything else or working on the tough truck, but he's always โ€“ at least popping in like everybody else. Daniel, you're always here too. i appreciate the support. Thank you.
00:07:16
Speaker
um But, yeah, also I want to give a shout-out to We Broke Garage this week. Here in Ohio they had a drag-and-drive event. A few minor hiccups and everything else. It was called Buckeye Skips. They ended up finishing and everything else. Corey's son, Hunter, which has been on the show with his dad and stuff,
00:07:40
Speaker
Got to race his dad's truck in the Teen Street class. um His wife, Amber, put down some awesome numbers from when I was reading on Facebook during this week and doing the drag and drive.
00:07:52
Speaker
So, I mean, it's ah it's good. And, too, if you want to support the network, everything else, there is โ€“ we are doing super chats now and everything else, too, to help progress with everything. Plus, with that, it helps โ€“ get us merch eventually down the road that we're blicks working on too.
00:08:14
Speaker
But yeah, but yeah, back to the, the, we broke garage. They're all doing, doing good. Today was the last day for it and everything else. And, uh, seeing they were doing the rewards on Facebook before I came live. So hopefully maybe I can get a, get with Corey and stuff and get them back up here on the show and share his experience and maybe have Amber. And if he's got a hundred with them, they all three can share their experience from this past week.
00:08:41
Speaker
ah how of for the first time to have both Blazers out for a Dragon Drive event, which is amazing, as much time as those guys put into

Passion and Challenges with Racing Trucks

00:08:51
Speaker
and everything else. So I'm happy to see. Yes, they did.
00:08:56
Speaker
Corey did have a few things, but he got it taken care of. um But, yeah, I'm excited for those guys and everything else that they they they finished that. Like I said, that's โ€“ what the family's all about. They're they're bonding over the motorsports scene.
00:09:16
Speaker
Like my family, we're into the motorsports scene and stuff. But these guys live and breathe their hot rods.
00:09:24
Speaker
Unfortunately, former guest Jason Carter, his car wasn't ready. He said he couldn't do this this weekend. This week, Jimbo Finchner, Penny Pinscher's performance. he I don't believe he made it.
00:09:38
Speaker
Talon, From Talon's garage, him and his wife, by the way, are now officially Ohioans. They moved up here from Florida. They were in in it this week with Corey.
00:09:49
Speaker
So it was awesome. Nate and all the, Nate Frazier from Dirty Curves Workshop showing support for everybody. Zach Hensel. um I mean, it's awesome to see the support the community has around here for in our group.
00:10:04
Speaker
And like I said, tough truck season's in full swing here in Ohio now. A lot of the guys are, like I said, are waiting. Um, buddy of mine debuted his new Jeep to this past Monday. Unfortunately, he finished, but not without some carnage, uh, put a whole hole in his oil pan.
00:10:25
Speaker
Uh, so he's got to replace it. It's a second oil pan since he's got this Jeep. Uh, the first time he found it, it's had a small crack in and stuff. He went ahead and put a new one in and, well,
00:10:37
Speaker
After racing for the second time, it hit the top of the pumpkin on the front axle. It put a nice big hole in the oil pan and stuff. so
00:10:50
Speaker
But he's getting that fixed up. He should be ready, actually, by our hometown fair, if not sooner for the first points race. I mean, he's not into points, but he may end up having it back together for the July 18th race. We'll see what happens.
00:11:05
Speaker
So.
00:11:08
Speaker
Unfortunately, the bad news is I'll let you guys know right now. Um, I will still have something, but we ended up selling the Jeep for certain reasons.
00:11:19
Speaker
Um, but we will have stuff and I still will have more for the rest of the season. I probably won't be until my hometown fair. Then I'll have the, have another one, but yeah, we ran into some stuff.
00:11:35
Speaker
Uh, It required making it disappear for a while, and I'm sorry about that. Any more updates on that and everything else. But me and the boys got something else lined up and everything in the works, so we're not done.
00:11:50
Speaker
The father-son team, we got it coming. But, yeah, I just wanted to, like I said, kind of hang out. Everything else. Unfortunately, Johnny must not check his emails, so.
00:12:05
Speaker
I just talked to him about 20 minutes ago and he was awake. So, Oh, Benji, dude, it happens, man. And, um and the thing is, is, uh, it's just one of those deals, man. Uh, my main thing is family comes first.
00:12:22
Speaker
You got to do what you got to do to keep, keep the family stuff going and everything else. Um, like I said, we got another one, buddy. Uh, by the way, Benji, I got actually another, I got to, uh,
00:12:35
Speaker
fan on here that sometime would like to get together and do a Monday or Thursday night, wants to do a F1 series, talk about some F1 racing and stuff. If we can ever get things lined up, we'd love to do an F1 series again. And you guys, you can educate people on some F1 racing and everything else. I know summertime's busy time for everybody, but eventually I'd like to get with you, dude. And bring you back up on here so we can you can educate people on the F1 racing and everything else. so
00:13:11
Speaker
But, yeah, I appreciate the support, man. Like I said,

Role and Dynamics of Sponsorship in Racing

00:13:14
Speaker
it's definitely family first, man. But we're still pumped for the season. I mean,
00:13:24
Speaker
oh, dang, Pat. I'm sorry to hear that, man. I know you'll get it up get it fixed. Did it end up โ€“ Did you break that case on it and everything else, or did it end up ah breaking a shaft or anything, or is it just one of those deals that said it was done because you put it through so much abuse?
00:13:45
Speaker
It's just one of those deals. It happens. um When we play the โ€“ race our toys hard, man you know, like you said when you were up here with Morgan and stuff, I mean, everybody โ€“ Monster truck racing, any type of racing, tough truck racing, dirt track racing.
00:14:03
Speaker
We're always abusing and beating up on our equipment. I mean, a lot of us are were but what I call broke the case. got you Gotcha. Gotcha.
00:14:15
Speaker
Man, that still sucks, though, dude.
00:14:19
Speaker
But some of us still ball on a budget. Yeah, we get a few sponsors here and there. We're not one of those big fans. big time sponsored racers, everything else. But at same time with what sponsors we get, um we're very appreciative of it because they're putting, they're investing in us as well as the the vehicle we're racing or doing.
00:14:42
Speaker
um But mostly the reason they do, sponsors do what they do, in my opinion, is the person, how you sell the product.
00:14:53
Speaker
You're not just in it for like majority of the people I see anymore. Just didn't try to get free shit. That pisses me off because this is the first year in my motorsports career that I've honestly had sponsors ever. um And I'm appreciative for them. And you guys will see pictures on the new vehicle when it comes with all the sponsors on it.
00:15:17
Speaker
um Other thing is too, which is badass. Blake, if you got yours on, dude, I appreciate what you did for, the network too. Glick made me some door stickers for the network on it with a QR code to scan to bring everybody to the network that we're going to be flying on the rough truck. So that's going to be cool to get us out there to more people around for me doing at at the races, me and the boy.
00:15:46
Speaker
I'll be honest, go back to the the Jeep. I was a little upset. I was sad that I sold the Jeep. I think it hurt my son a little more than anything, but he understands that we, fa Like I said, family first. So he's excited, though, that we're getting something.
00:16:00
Speaker
Plus, what we're getting is a little more safer for me to put him in The other one we had, I wouldn't have cared if it was just me racing. But my kid comes first when it comes to that. i All the bells and whistles if I can for him.
00:16:17
Speaker
Even if it's my โ€“ even my daughters want to race for my wife. It's โ€“ I'll go out and race a clapped out piece of shit. I get hurt. I get hurt. But if it's any of those those four, yeah, i wouldn't I wouldn't feel good about myself if anything happened to them.
00:16:34
Speaker
But I'll keep everybody posted up on that. But back to the sponsors. A lot of people nowadays, they have their sponsors or they pick up new sponsors because they give what the sponsors want.
00:16:50
Speaker
They sell the product. They promote the product. They promote themselves as ah as the driver, as the owner of the vehicle. um And with social media now, know the thing, so it expands even more for us sponsored racers to share that stuff out on the product that our sponsors are so you know selling and everything else and willing to take the chance on us to Show their product to everybody while we're out there traveling around racing at different places. So, I mean, it's awesome.
00:17:25
Speaker
But I'm just sad it took me. I've been doing motorsports since I was like eight. Legit driving, doing stuff since I was eight. To be 43 years old and have my first sponsors ever.
00:17:39
Speaker
It's pretty amazing feat, in my personal opinion. So, and but yeah. that's ah And I give kudos to everybody that's got sponsors. I know every now and then a little bit helps here and there, especially the small businesses.
00:17:55
Speaker
If we can get small businesses like a lot of people do, like I've got small businesses for this year, it helps get their name out there, helps bring new eyes to their to their product. you know It helps everybody.
00:18:10
Speaker
It helps me. It helps them. So it's a win-win situation. But you also got to put forth the effort to put the work in, not only to keep your vehicle running to make these races, but give thanks to the ones that stand behind you, family, friends, sponsors.

Friends and Community in Racing Support

00:18:29
Speaker
it's just That's just part of racing.
00:18:32
Speaker
Pat, you can probably attest to this. the guys Any of the guys out there, any of my buddies out there, I mean, it's got sponsors. it's That's the thing is we give it โ€“
00:18:43
Speaker
Got to give it 110% when we're out there. Like Pat, unfortunately, broke transfer case. But he's still going to be back together, going to go out and give 100%.
00:18:55
Speaker
I mean, if he's got sponsors, he always, if I've seen anything he posts, he you know, he's always posting positive stuff of everybody that's helped him, any shape or form. It don't matter if it's just moral support.
00:19:09
Speaker
I'm the same way. a lot of my racing buddies are the same way. um We broke garage, Corey and them, their sponsors. Every time he does a video or does a shop talk or anything like that, he's always thanking his sponsors for helping and the people that help him, you know, friends and everything else. So that's just like here. I thank everybody. You guys, honestly, in the chat and fans, I look at you as a sponsor
00:19:40
Speaker
Not only that, but becoming friends of the network for all of us, not only on my shows, but the network in general. it's It's amazing because you keep coming back every time every time we have a show. And and I appreciate everybody doing that.
00:19:56
Speaker
It's not often you get get that. So this weekend, being the 4th of July weekend, tomorrow night, me and my boy,
00:20:07
Speaker
I'm going to our first truck and tractor pull of the year here in Ohio. Truck and tractor pulling season has been going on since June in Ohio started.
00:20:17
Speaker
um Been watching it on TV, on YouTube, on the IHRA channel, the big
00:20:25
Speaker
pulling circuit that they have going on

Insights into Truck and Tractor Pulling

00:20:27
Speaker
right now. it's They have eight classes, $10,000 is a win every class. I've watched it. First two, the first one was at dragway 42 in Ohio.
00:20:38
Speaker
Um, day two got, unfortunately got rained out. So their next one was at, uh,
00:20:47
Speaker
that they, uh, went to Iowa and in the, some rain still got the first night pulled up pull in, which is crazy. Cause I just went back and watched it. Um,
00:21:00
Speaker
They finished the pool at 3 in the morning and then had the second day at 7 o'clock that next night. And the way they do the second day is they flip the order of the classes. So the last two classes were the semis and the mini modifieds.
00:21:15
Speaker
So they started the first class. If they broke something, they were busting their butts all through the night and early morning well early morning and late afternoon before the show started. There were some guys that said they it's spent about eight, ah almost six or so seven hours fixing some stuff that so they could pull the second night to get back to the class to compete again the second night.
00:21:38
Speaker
But it was it was it was neat to see. I mean, they put the forth the effort to get a pool in after a rainstorm and everything else there. A lot of places around here in Ohio with their pools, especially the body. Hey, Pat, it in my personal opinion, friends โ€“ Friends are great to have, man. I get understand no sponsors, but yeah, a lot of friends, and that's that's a good support system. it's To me, a friendship that helps and everything else is more valuable than a sponsor, in my opinion. But at the same time, sponsors are a bonus.
00:22:16
Speaker
But when you got friends like we have and we support each other on working on our stuff and or their stuff, that makes it worth the while in the end, man, is having friends.
00:22:26
Speaker
having having that camaraderie. So,
00:22:32
Speaker
but yeah, but yeah, me and the boys going to our first truck and tractor pool. It's not too far from us here. It's about a half hour. We're going to go see it and watch some fireworks and then do do the do the Fourth of July stuff with the family and everything else Saturday.
00:22:51
Speaker
Might be a possibility. May go to Mansfield Motor Speedway Saturday. They have a truck and tractor pool. They've got drifting going on. They're doing all kinds of things, but the main attraction is another truck and tractor pool event, plus celebrating the 250 years of the United States with a big, huge firework display up there.
00:23:12
Speaker
So I may go check that out depending on what's going on. But, yeah, we we got some got family plans this weekend, and I'll keep everybody posted for that.
00:23:29
Speaker
Hands of seed. I wouldn't be surprised at all, honestly.
00:23:36
Speaker
But we do have a guest coming Monday night, just to let everybody know. I will have another another gentleman that's in the Rocktruck community.
00:23:51
Speaker
Mike Wickett will be on the show Monday night. at 8 o'clock, 8 p.m. Eastern. Me coming up here telling us about his racing career and everything else and his his passion about the motorsports and everything. So it'll be ah it'll be a good time.
00:24:11
Speaker
I'm looking forward to it and I hope everybody tunes in and stuff. But, yeah, there's there's two. I'm just now looking on my phone and stuff, everything. There is a lot a lot of racing actually going on this holiday weekend.
00:24:31
Speaker
They've got a big, huge race down in Texas I've seen just posted. $150,000 to lend over the weekend.
00:24:43
Speaker
One of the largest small tire purses in the country being put out there for for the racing this weekend. There's dirt track racing tomorrow. Tomorrow night at Mansfield Motor Speedway, the late model series is up there, outlaws.
00:24:59
Speaker
Wayne County is doing their Speedway is doing their Independence Day race. They got Sprint 410 Sprint cars going. Actually, one of my former court workers is racing Saturday night up there, so wish him luck. That's my buddy, Tyler Street.
00:25:18
Speaker
I used to work with him at Aero.
00:25:23
Speaker
Hands to see, there is the the bottom of the pan, on the bottom of that sled, there's a pan that's got actually like little claws. When the weight comes up over the top, it actually digs down into the, dig into the ground, into the dirt, and starts to slow the truck trucks and tractors down in the semis.
00:25:44
Speaker
So and it's actually a neat experience. You ever get a chance Just look up an operation of a truck and tractor pulling sled. They literally give you different angles and everything of the working mechanisms of it, but it is cool.
00:26:00
Speaker
it It digs down in. It's got, like I said, little little claws like you're plowing and everything else on on the bottom of the sled that digs as the weight box moves up. As the weight transfers, that belly pin they call starts digging down into the ground until โ€“ It pretty much, the weight transfers closer the top of the box and stops the the vehicle. so And I have seen it where the weight box has broke. the It's gear chain driven and gear driven. And I have seen where the chains have broken a pool before.
00:26:35
Speaker
Thank goodness they had a backup sled there that night. had been a while for the pools to get fixed because it's almost like a bicycle chain that runs through the through the sled and everything to make that weight box transfer. And then it's got the hydraulics that pushes down as it goes for the digging of the ground.
00:26:58
Speaker
It's a, it's a neat thing. It's another one of the oldest motor sports in the world country. It's actually the heaviest motor sports on wheels.
00:27:09
Speaker
Some of the, some of these truck and tractors out there, especially in the modified class, you got four or five blown alcohol, Emmy motors. Allison airplane jet engines on them, three or four of those on them.
00:27:22
Speaker
it is It's neat. It's what mike got my really got me into motorsports was the truck and tractor pulling and then of course, dirt track racing. And then as I got older, got into rough trucks and demolition derby. so But, yeah, truck and tractor pulling is definitely my first passion of motorsports that I ever got

Personal Motorsports Journey and Family

00:27:45
Speaker
hooked on.
00:27:45
Speaker
as Since I was a young kid, I've always gone to them. As my kids get older, I've been passing it down to them, and we try to make it to them all the time. My family loves going to them when we can.
00:27:58
Speaker
They always have fun. It's a good time. i it's just It's loud. It's like being a drag strip. It ain't going to...
00:28:10
Speaker
It's not going to vibrate to you as nearly as bad as being around a nitro meatee nitro car, like a nitro funny car or a nitro top fuel car.
00:28:21
Speaker
Those are some of the loudest motors I've ever been around. I'm not a sissy when it comes to wearing earplugs, but if I'm ever at a national event for drag racing like that and they're there, I plug my ears or wear earplugs when they're up running because it will pop your ears.
00:28:39
Speaker
and your ears will ring for a while. Some people would don't bother, but I'm one of those ones. That's the only time it bothers, but at a truck and tractor pulling event, I'm standing right, standing right on, the right on, usually on the starting line or pit side, right by the track.
00:28:56
Speaker
These multi-engine modified, blown, super modified four-wheel drives and stuff. Don't plug my ears, nothing. Ears will rattle for a little bit, but other than that, I sit there and enjoy the show. I mean, it's,
00:29:10
Speaker
Like I said, the heaviest sport on dirt, and it's and it's fun. definitely not and Definitely not a poor man's sport, that's for sure. A lot lot of these guys that are pulling are actually farmers.
00:29:27
Speaker
They've got giant grain farms, cattle farms, everything else, and truck tractor pulling is their release, a lot of them. Like i said, they're farmers, but some of them aren't. Some of them are construction and business owners, different things like that, but a lot of them are farmers.
00:29:45
Speaker
And that's their way away, time away from the farm to get out, travel from pool to pool, see all kinds of fans, see all kinds of different people.
00:29:56
Speaker
They also, just like the Rough Truck community, everything else is a tight knit group. They'll drop it a dime to help anybody if they can. So, I mean, it makes it, makes it a good time for them. And it's a fun as a fan too.
00:30:11
Speaker
I've made a lot of friends in the truck pulling community. Some of them i I'd consider family as myself that I stay in contact with quite a bit and hang out in our trailers. We all get to hang out in our trailers at the pools.
00:30:26
Speaker
Like I said, go to the starting line as part of the crew. Sometimes hang out up there, watch all the classes from the starting line. I mean, stand right pretty much right behind the sled as these are hooked up to and going down to the track. You get front row view of it instead of just standing off to the sign stuff.

Community Engagement in Local Motorsports

00:30:44
Speaker
You're literally right there involved. It's it's a great time.
00:30:48
Speaker
So if you guys anywhere out there get a chance to go truck and tractor pull dirt, dirt track racing. But if you've never been to truck and tractor pull bit, definitely go check one out if you can, if it's within your distance of your area.
