Introduction and Podcast Focus

00:00:22
Speaker
Are you ready, kids? Get your parents' permission, check your mailbox, and grab your shopping cart. It's time for the Adventures in Collecting podcast.
00:00:33
Speaker
I'm Eric. And I'm Dave. Welcome to Adventures in Collecting, where we talk toy news, culture, and hauls. Along with our journeys as collectors. Hello, everybody, and welcome back to Adventures in Collecting.

Mixing Up the Episode Format

00:00:51
Speaker
We're back. Yeah. On every two weeks, just like clockwork. I think people are going to be really upset that you didn't say hi, Dave. Oh, hi.
00:01:04
Speaker
Hahaha!
00:01:06
Speaker
I wanted to mix I wanted to mix it up this week. That's totally fine. This this episode is all about mixing it up. And instead of saying hi, you know, I wanted to be like, hey, it's been two weeks. So before we get into the mania that is going to be today's episode, kind of out of nowhere. And suddenly I just wanted to do a teeny tiny bit of of housekeeping, Dave.
00:01:34
Speaker
So one of the things that we have asked about on our, our Instagram, um, and we, we've mentioned it, uh, several times in our stories and everything is we want to hear from you guys. Uh, you know, we, we're on Instagram now at AIC underscore podcast, same as Twitter. We've been, it's not new. Yeah.
00:01:55
Speaker
Um, and we're, we're on YouTube. We don't have a fun YouTube URL yet because we don't have enough subscribers, but if you go to our website, adventures and collecting podcast.com, you'll, you'll find a link to their, watch stuff, please. Um,
00:02:10
Speaker
You first of all, we want to hear hear back from you guys. So the way that we're asking you to do that is wherever you listen to the podcast, whether it's on YouTube or whether it's on a podcast provider, especially this is especially important for for Apple podcasts. But that those ratings and reviews.
00:02:27
Speaker
we don't unless unless you have direct feedback for us that you would like us to do something differently or you know that we're doing something particularly well of course we'd love to hear that but we want you to take that review spot and we want us we want to hear from you a cool toy story so if there's a particular toy
00:02:44
Speaker
that you love or you had a childhood memory about a toy or there's a toy right now that's driving you insane and you can't find it, whatever it may be, we want you to leave a review with that story in it so that way we can talk about it on the show and that way, you know, we get some feedback from you guys because I know there's got to be some level of crossover where we have people that are following us on Instagram and interacting with us there and people that are listening to the show. We want to bring those two together.
00:03:14
Speaker
And if you'd like YouTube to like if you want to be a triple threat You know Please yeah every week. We have a new unboxing on our YouTube channel every Wednesday
00:03:27
Speaker
Uh, they, they go live at midnight on Wednesday unless there's a freak storm that causes a power outage and we have to post it 19 hours later. Um, we, uh, we, you know, we, we have some piece of new content on our YouTube every Wednesday and we're constantly thinking of ways to kind of use these platforms to do more fun stuff with toys. And, uh, we can't do that without you guys. So, um, if you're not subscribed to us on YouTube, do that. If you are, if you have not left us a rating and review on Apple podcasts, please, please, please.
00:03:57
Speaker
We want to hear from you. Yeah. And, you know, like I've recorded a whole bunch of them. Maybe we'll do more than one a week. I don't know. It's crazy. It's it's crazy. We buy lots of toys. That being said, let's let's get into the actual the actual episode, Dave. So on today's episode.
00:04:17
Speaker
so road trip toys yeah about that um we got a lot of really great answers right i guess technically today's episode is about a road trip yeah not the intended kind though um so we we love the answers that we got we had a whole idea to do an episode about road trip toys don't worry we are still going to do that
00:04:39
Speaker
Yes, all of the responses we received were great and we will get back to it, but there was other stuff that happened. Yes, we are going to cover the current insanity. Now, we're recording this on Thursday the 13th of August.

AEW Figures: Popularity and Challenges

00:04:59
Speaker
And this will come out on Monday, the, what is that, the 16th, right? I don't know. I don't math. Yeah. It will come out the Monday after that. So for all intents and purposes, this weekend could totally clear this matter up. And these AEW figures that we're about to talk about could be showing up everywhere and this entire episode will be moot. But, um, as of today.
00:05:21
Speaker
that is just kind of pressing throughout all of toy social media and rippling throughout the toy community and has literally. It's been for, I would say, for the past 10 days, give or take. And it literally consumed your entire day, Dave. It sure did. So that is going to be our main topic. We are also going to play what is now my least favorite game. Oh, yeah.
00:05:52
Speaker
name that toy. We're gonna guess that toy today. Maybe you will, I don't know. We'll do a little bit of news and hauls too. So that being said, let's hop into the news. Dave, why don't you start us off?
00:06:06
Speaker
Um, so I guess the biggest news, um, there was two things, um, more office pops were announced. That was really cool. Um, those kind of came out of nowhere. Um, all of a sudden it's just like, Hey, here's a whole new wave of, of office pops kind of hot on the heels of the ones that just came out. Um, so there's a bunch of exclusives, um, a bunch of, uh, you know, beloved kind of.
00:06:36
Speaker
memories from the show so uh... that's really cool mystery minis too i saw the british office figures right like art is under like a ricky gervais one i thought i saw a ricky gervais no no no there's no ricky gervais that's uh... michael scott with a goatee okay my bad um and there's mystery minis so um that's pretty cool and then um
00:07:02
Speaker
Another big one, I guess, is that the, as announced today, Ringside Collectibles is social media. The edge heads are shipping. They're in stock. So that's cool. Hooray. I'm looking forward to it because I did order three, so. As is the only feasible way to display that figure. I feel like it's the only way, like,
00:07:31
Speaker
You know, the extra heads and hands will go in a baggie and it is what it is. Well, now you get to methodically like line them all up and pick like the one that has the best paint apps and it really kind of like feeds into the minutia of, you know, deciding which is the best one, right? Um, as far as which is the best head, yes. Yeah. I mean, the body, there's only three. There, there ain't going to be any more than those coming to the house. So.
00:07:59
Speaker
Uh, what, let's see what else, uh, what else news news related. Um, so, uh, the, the NECA brand and they're Ninja Turtles have been also kind of consuming everything in, in all aspects. We talked a lot about it on the last episode, uh, our Comic Con recap with Craig, which by the way, Craig, thank you again for joining us, uh, on that episode. Um, April O'Neill herself, uh, Judith.
00:08:28
Speaker
I don't want to mess up her last name. I think it's just Judith Hogue. Yeah. Judith Hogue took over the NECA Instagram in order to announce that there will be a Judith 1990s April O'Neill figure.
00:08:45
Speaker
Um, coming to the, the neck of turtles line. And, um, the interesting thing about it is it will also come with a documentary that goes into how the toys are made, how, how the sausage gets made, if you will. And it will be hosted by her on her YouTube channel. Um, as, as, as a kind of.
00:09:08
Speaker
reclaiming her reporter status, her News Channel 6 status as April O'Neill. Yeah, so she'll be taking everybody through NECA's process from the renderings to the actual creation of the individual pieces assembly, how they get shipped out, how they get sold. And this will be a bot-proof pre-order system, much like
00:09:33
Speaker
the Toka and Rezar figures. Very, very cool stuff from NECA. I try to stay as humanly positive as possible when it comes to these companies because I can't even imagine the logistics of what they deal with on a regular basis to get a product from point A to point B.
00:09:55
Speaker
but it seems like with NECA, it's like they do something really cool like the Toka Rezar thing. And then they like, surprise, put Shredder, Super Shredder up for pre-order on the NECA store. They gave a little bit of a heads up. He goes out of stock in minutes and everyone's like, ah, I missed it.
00:10:13
Speaker
And then like they're like surprise he's back in stock and he's in stock now longer the second time than he was the first time but the problem is they only have one option for shipping. And it's like mint in box collector grade shipping.
00:10:29
Speaker
And it's, it's like $30 for the figure and then 26 to ship it with no option in between. And, you know, as much as I really wanted that super shredder figure, I just, I couldn't get behind paying double to have it shipped. So I'm rolling the dice and it's starting to show up now in Walmart. It is technically a Walmart exclusive. So we'll, we'll see how that goes.
00:10:53
Speaker
And to round out the NECA news, Dave, I did reach out for those of you, again, that are following us on Instagram. You might have seen the post about the Mutagen Tour, Turtle, Four Pack, the San Diego Comic Con exclusive. Mine was missing the back of Donatello's bandana, which was very disappointing. I love the set. I'm looking at them right now. I have them displayed and posed, and I have it in a way that I can't see the back of Donny's head to keep me sane.
00:11:20
Speaker
I reached out to them and after a little bit of, let's just say a challenging customer service experience, they did come through and say that, yes, they will be able to replace the bandana at the back of his bandana. I reached out to them again today just to see if they had an update on the timeline and they actually gave me a date this time. They said, reach back out to us on the 24th of this month. So that's only...
00:11:45
Speaker
Um, you only 10, 10, 11 days away at this point, um, which is great. So, you know, I'm, I'm really happy that they're going to be able to replace that part. Um, again, like I'm not a mint and box collector. I open things. I, you know, I think toys are meant to be played with and displayed.
00:12:02
Speaker
And I don't care that it's not the piece that came that, you know, should have been in the box with that original first wave of toys. It doesn't matter to me. I just want it complete. And I'll be happy to take that that replacement bandana piece. So. So that's good. Yes. A. A bright spot, as it were. Definitely. Dave, did you have any other news?
00:12:27
Speaker
Um, no, I mean, other than, and it'll be kind of a lead-in is just that, you know, um, jazzwares still continuing to be kind of, and Jeremy Padaor specifically, um, just continuing to be very transparent about, um, the impending arrival or assumed arrival of, uh, the AEW unrivaled line. Yeah. Yeah. You know, he's the every step of the way. It's been like, here's what you're going to see. Um,
00:12:58
Speaker
which of course we'll talk about. Yeah. So there's also been some other news since we last really like, the last episode, we really kind of stuck into the virtual Comic Con news. Which was roughly all news. Yeah.
00:13:17
Speaker
Uh, but there has since been a couple of, of, uh, interesting announcements, um, and things starting to like kind of hit and we'll just kind of go over it quick here. Well, New York, well, yeah, New York comic-con has officially been canceled. Uh, there are plans to do some sort of virtual events, but, um, you know, stay tuned for that.
00:13:40
Speaker
Along with things unfortunately being cancelled or closed down, there was a ton of layoffs at Warner Brothers and DC Comics, which unfortunately tragically ended DC Direct.
00:13:56
Speaker
which for 22 years they've been producing amazing, amazing figures and sculptures and you name it, they've been doing a really good job about it and they were really like for the collector. Their booth at New York Toy Fair was gorgeous, the stuff they had to show off. I know that there are a lot of people who are really amped up about the
00:14:24
Speaker
continued adventures of Batman the Bruce Timm style Batman figures that they've been producing to go alongside with the comic book That's been out the digital only comic or digital first comic and there's a whole second wave of those figures that was supposed to come out and now Nobody kind of really knows what the what the deal is what's gonna happen? So we're gonna have to
00:14:45
Speaker
wait and see what that one, um, but you know, as, as we mentioned, it's, you know, it's really sad when a company like that folds, especially one that's so beloved. So, you know, we will have to see what's on the horizon for the team at DC and Warner.

Live Show Postponement and Collecting Nostalgia

00:14:59
Speaker
Um, another piece of news to, uh, our first live show, which was originally postponed to this coming December or this coming September has been postponed yet again. So ZapCon, um, is postponed until 2021, as early as, uh, September of 2021. Um.
00:15:21
Speaker
Real quick with that, if you did purchase a badge to attend ZapCon, hang on to it. It will still be good. There's nothing additional you have to do, regardless of what the dates say on there. Obviously, they're still gonna be honored. And if for some reason you need a refund or just reach out to Zap Comics for more information, they will help you out.
00:15:50
Speaker
And then the last piece of news that I have is the long awaited re-releases, the vintage collection, Star Wars Vintage Collection, re-releases of Darth Maul, Wicked, General Obi-Wan Kenobi, and General Anakin Skywalker.
00:16:06
Speaker
They've been available for pre-order for months with their original pictures, so the pictures from when they were originally released in the Vintage Collection. Just today, Dorkside Toys released new images of the figures with the new heads and the new face prints and everything. I'm super excited. I've had those on pre-order for all the Anakin and Obi-Wan on pre-order for a long time. I've always wanted those figures as kind of
00:16:31
Speaker
the way they appear in the Clone Wars cartoon, but in kind of like a realistic version, which the vintage collection does really well. But it's going to be nice to have that Obi-Wan with the pseudo clone armor and the Anakin with the same thing. So very excited to finally see what those finished products look like. And yeah, and actually, Dave, I'm going to take that topic and I'm going to turn it right into my halls real quick because I don't have a whole lot.
00:17:00
Speaker
Okay. Um, in the Star Wars front, I was finally able to find codename Lil Nipper himself. Uh, the black series child figure. Um, I had not seen this thing in person ever, and I've seen tons of pictures of it, but for some reason, like in my head and thinking like black series, you know, I had a certain size in my head. And when I saw him.
00:17:28
Speaker
Man is he fucking small. It is a tiny figure and that made me incredibly happy because he actually scales super well with the vintage collection figures. From what I can tell, Dave, a scale child.
00:17:44
Speaker
should be no higher, no taller than like your upper shin, maybe maybe knee on the Mando. And he is like right, just a hair over that for the the for the vintage collection figures. And it's to me, it's perfect. Like I was able, I was able to get Mando to hold him. He didn't look too big. He stands next to him. Great. It's just
00:18:12
Speaker
Yeah, it was one of those things where looking at your photo, it looked like it was like, and I think I had mentioned this, slightly like a very touch too big. But like, that makes him me think he's like really small for the black series figures. Oh, yeah. I mean, the so you got a figure, right? If he's a touch, like, I mean, a touch too big for the vintage collection.
00:18:35
Speaker
The, the black series figures are nearly twice as tall, right? You have a three and three quarter inch figure versus a six inch figure. And like he must, and I've seen, I know I've seen pictures of like him with a black series figure, but it never really kind of dawned on me. I think they did a really good job low key making a black series labeled product.
00:19:00
Speaker
you know, for the Black Series box and the way that it looks, but it is size in a way that really does work with both scales, which is either the coolest accident in the history of modern Star Wars figures or impeccable planning on their part. Yeah, I'm not sure, but I saw it and I was like, it's so tiny, but like, um,
00:19:27
Speaker
It's it's really cool. Yeah, he's so little. He's so little. And like the little accessories are even tinier. He comes he comes with the the my only my only gripe with the figure honestly, so he comes with the frog which is awesome. He comes with the shifter knob which is incredible and it's molded in a way that like when you have him palm up he can hold it. He comes with the broth bowl.
00:19:53
Speaker
which is great but there is there is no way for him to hold it because his his the way that his arms move there is no way to yeah well there are there they are little ball joints but because of kind of the bulkiness of his like
00:20:08
Speaker
robe, I guess we'll call it, his little baby robe. He can't close his arms together tightly enough to actually hold the, like nowhere near tight enough to hold that bolt. I'm talking like an inch on either side. So if you have figured out how to get the child to hold the broth bowl, please, please, please let us know.
00:20:35
Speaker
The other big acquisition that I'll talk about, because everything else you're going to see in either an unboxing or you have seen in an unboxing already, is I got a weird one today. So I've realized that I have put together a nice little collection of three and three-quarter scale figures outside of Star Wars. Now I'm collecting some of the four-inch Spin Master Batman figures.
00:21:01
Speaker
Um, I have all but Benny the cab for my, my four inch, um, uh, Roger rabbit figures. I was able to get, uh, phantom star killer from the San Diego comic con release. I realized that there was, um, and, and I'm, I'm saying this and everyone Dave.
00:21:20
Speaker
You can hold me accountable to this. I am not collecting this series of figures, but I went back and on eBay, I was able to get the four inch or three and three quarters scale inch Raiders of the lost arc. Indiana Jones figure from 2007, the Hasbro figure.
00:21:39
Speaker
I just thought it would be really cool to kind of put him with the other three and three quarter scale figures. What you can vouch for, like my childhood was basically Star Wars, Batman, Roger Rabbit, and Indiana Jones. Like I loved those franchises. And the fact that I can pose them all together is kind of cool. And it's a great figure. Like from 2007 comes with a little fertility idol. He's got a revolver. He's got two different whips. He's got one that's like kind of like mid
00:22:08
Speaker
mid whip and he's got another that's that's rolled up that you can hang on his belt. So it's a it's a great figure. I'm I have plans to to pop it in the light box probably after we're done recording and take some photos of it. But yeah, he's he is an awesome, awesome little addition to the collection. Cool. I got some stuff. There it is. I got some things. I don't know whether high or I got some stuff is your is going on your first t shirt.
00:22:37
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. We'll figure it out. So like I've I got some some very on brand things and I got some very kind of different things. So I'll start with the. The kind of the on brand material, I guess I'll start with the different things. So I did while I was out. One day I picked up
00:23:06
Speaker
the Spin Master Batwoman. OK. I saw that and I'm like, OK, this is a character that I really enjoy. I really liked the books, the comics. So that was one for me where I was like, OK, this is. Somebody I would add to to my very small Spin Master collection.
00:23:28
Speaker
Um, I also got, um, the, the bounty collection, the little, um, the child figurine. I knew it. I knew you were going to go in for that. Um, I got the, the one with the child with the frog eating the frog. Nice. Um,
00:23:48
Speaker
Yeah, I saw it and I was like, yeah, this is adorable. Um, that's probably the only one I'll get, but it's, cause that was when I first saw them. I was like, that's the best. Yeah. I think my favorite one is the one where he's concentrating, trying to use the force. That one's good too. Um, I feel like. I don't know. I just feel like it's too funny. Like there's the pop coming of that as well. So, um,
00:24:17
Speaker
Yeah. I also got, there's a company, I saw these just in Target randomly. They are Parks and Recreation blind boxes. Okay. They're little mini figurines by a company called Fat Mojo. And I'm like, you know what? Let me just get two, see what happens. So I got an April Ludgate.
00:24:41
Speaker
And then the second one, I'm guessing it's a chase of some sort. I have no way of knowing what the checklist is or anything like that. I've looked all over online to try to find this. So if there is a checklist that you can share with me, please let me know. But I've got Ben Wyatt, but he's just gold.
00:25:06
Speaker
So it's a completely gold Ben Wyatt. And who makes these again? Fat Mojo. I'm looking this up while you keep going. So it's really weird, but I'm gathering it's one of the chases in the set, but I have no way of knowing. You can hear from the kind of questioning in my voice that it's like these are neat, but
00:25:35
Speaker
Um, yeah, I don't, I don't really know what I've got or what else is out there. Um, it's like they show collect all nine on the box and then they show six people in a question mark. So. And you said it's fat Mojo. So F A T Mojo. Uh, no, P H A T. Okay. I was going to say, I, you, you, this is like, would you travel to another dimension? Cause I can't find them. Nope. Um,
00:26:04
Speaker
Nope, I did not. I'll keep going while you try to find that. Stuff came in the mail. That stuff was Wallace Wells and that Dwight Schrute Funko shop exclusive from the Comic Con order. My Recyclops Dwight got canceled, so that did not show up.
00:26:31
Speaker
You've had a you had a lot of I've had some stuff get cancelled cancelled issues. Um I've had some stuff get cancelled. It's it's worked out in the long run. But yeah, it happened I got from the new haunted mansion set I have made She's just called made you're a made man. Yeah Not the maid but made I
00:27:00
Speaker
So, uh, she's here waiting for, um, the others in that series to come out, which, um, ultimately will wind up with me having my first pop town. However, I'm totally okay with it being the haunted mansion, even though it's the Anaheim one. Um, and that's where presumably Butler will come. So what else, what else did you get in? I know you got in, you got in your team. Yep. I was going to say your San Diego Comic Con.
00:27:26
Speaker
Real, real, you're you're big San Diego. I cannot find anything about these toys, Dave, these. Yeah. No, I can't. The only thing I found is like eBay listings. Yeah. And on the company's website, they talk about their other blind boxes, but nothing about the parks and records. So weird. It's so weird. So how about that, Mr. T? That Mr. T is really cool. I have not opened it yet, but I've marveled at the outer box.
00:27:58
Speaker
Yeah, it's really cool. That'll that'll get opened at some point and that will be filmed for sure. Thank you to you for picking up the AEW championship belt. You got to pop some bubbly. Yeah, just walk around the house talking to yourself.
00:28:22
Speaker
Yeah, it's it may just be for prop purposes, but I have it. I also picked up. I feel like we talked about the SummerSlam ones last time, but maybe not. We did. We did. We talked about the SummerSlam ones already. But I did get the Lana Basic. I needed that. I needed that figure because it's really the only one of her in ring gear. Any previous Lana figure has been her as a manager.
00:28:52
Speaker
Dave P of Calling All Creeps has been huge for you. Yeah, he found Greg the Hammer Valentine for me, which was one of my canceled WWE legends. I found Bobby the Brain Heenan, which was the other one, and you found Razor Ramon. So yeah, those are, if not here in transit, but otherwise,
00:29:24
Speaker
Oh, I also got Pete Alonso and Jacob DeGrom Mets pops. Oh yeah, yeah. Baseball. Oh, I got one more thing, I'm sorry. I just didn't do it yet. I was, my Lego, BrickHeads, the child, and Mandalorian shipped, so I have those.
00:29:45
Speaker
I was going to say the only other thing that I neglected to mention, I did mention that there would be some stuff that we had in unboxings, but I just wanted to call it out because I haven't had a chance to film it yet, but the kind folks at Diamond Collectibles sent me the rocketeer.
00:30:04
Speaker
Oh, good. So super excited to have him. I cannot wait. That's an awesome figure. That figure in the box has been burning a hole. Because where I sit from my office, I can see my two open pile. And it has been burning a hole in the side of my head all week. I cannot wait to crack it open. I love the rocket here. I'm obsessed. So I'm very excited to crack that open.

Recent Acquisitions and Toy News

00:30:34
Speaker
But we have- My open pile is pretty big too. Yeah, and I still have to get to those. I have a couple of jazzwares, legendary series, Fortnite figures to open too, which are amazing. Yeah, I got that last run of elites and those legends and the Chris Jericho bubbly figure to open as well. Well, Dave, so we're done with news and hauls. Do you know what that means? Is it time for you to guess that toy?
00:31:04
Speaker
It's time to play Name That Toy! All right, so it's been a little bit since we've done this. Should we give everyone a little bit of a reminder how it works? Yeah, sure. Let's give them a reminder. Here's a reminder, everybody. Take it away, Eric. So this time, Dave and I go back and forth giving each other facts about a certain toy, going from
00:31:32
Speaker
very broad to very narrow. How many facts do we have today, Dave? I tried to make as many clues as I could. I have nine. Okay, so we have nine. So the way that this is going to work is Dave is going to read me the facts. And if at the end, I cannot guess the toy, what we're going to do is we're going to throw it out to you on Instagram and we'll post about it.
00:31:57
Speaker
And, um, we'll, we'll set an end date on it and we will choose at random one of the people that guesses it, right. Uh, we'll get something fun from us. Uh, we have, we have a bunch of things we have stuff. We have things to select. So we'll, um, we, we will, uh, if I can't get it.
00:32:18
Speaker
Today Dave will get a point and then You guys will get a chance to guess it. So I think I think with that Dave. Let's let's cue the music And play nina toy this one. I I think you might but you may not oh, um, also What's the score going into it because I actually don't remember I know I'm up but it's I think it's I think it's like three nothing you You guessed one
00:32:47
Speaker
I gotta look it up. You'd think I would have notes of this at this point, but I don't. If I have a point, it is a point. But you are winning by at least two. I'm gonna go with, it's 3-1. I think it's 3-1. Yeah, now that I think about it, because I guessed two, and you guessed one, and I stumped you one. So, okay. Alright.
00:33:10
Speaker
Okay. So the first clue is, um, and all of these, I got off of, um, just a little bit of research from Wikipedia credit where it's, uh, where it's due. Okay. The first clue is it was created by bluebird toys in the UK. Is it Polly pocket? No.
00:33:39
Speaker
I'm doomed. Keep going. Distributed by Mattel in the US. Is it Mighty Max? Yes!
00:33:56
Speaker
I got one. Ring that fucking bell. I knew it. I that's why I felt good about it. Like, um, and then if if you didn't get it honestly by seven clue seven or a clue six, I should say you weren't going to. Um, I feel so good. When you said Polly Pocket, I was in my mind, I was like, this isn't going for much longer. So the only reason for full disclosure, the only reason that I know that Polly Pocket
00:34:26
Speaker
Bluebird toys is Jess recently came back into her Polly Pocket collection from when she was a kid and we were looking them up and going through You know going through them and I was like, oh I always thought these were Mattel and I started looking them up and she has like bluebirds toys or bluebird toys Polly Pockets from like 89. Okay. So the original ones. Yeah Yeah, that was kind of like when I guess last time because I had just seen a thing Yeah, I forget. I forget what it was but
00:34:56
Speaker
I forget what it was too. Was it muscle? No, that would have been too easy. It was something like that though. There were little... Oh, it was Monster in my Pocket. Monster in my Pocket, yep.
00:35:09
Speaker
All right, cool, so Mighty Max. Sorry, I robbed everyone of a gift that's a tiny asshole this time. I don't know if you want to hear the other clues or... Yeah, let's roll through them, because we'll do a little history lesson of Mighty Max. I loved Mighty Max when I was a kid. I know, it was a thing you had, which was what I wanted to do this time. Yeah, and had them, I definitely did.
00:35:31
Speaker
I wanted to see if I could stump you on something you had. So the protagonist was initially willed a magical baseball cap that transported him to the horror and doom zones when the cap was turned to the side. However, that storyline eventually changed. Yeah, if I mean, I would I would have had it at that point, too. Yeah. Three series in the main Doom Zone line as well as two horror zone series existed amongst other offshoot lines.
00:36:01
Speaker
Mm-hmm. This toy also found its way onto video games, board games, squirt heads, electronic games, and McDonald's holiday Happy Meal versions of the main toy. I remember all of this. This boy's toy was made to create a version of another wildly popular Bluebird slash Mattel girls toy. Yeah, that one right there, if you didn't know it at that point.
00:36:26
Speaker
That's what I said. If you didn't know it by six, you weren't getting it. But if you didn't know it before six, you should have after it. The protagonist's baseball cap changed color depending on the different zone he entered. The toy line spoyn- spoyn- spawned. Oh my goodness. Spoyned. Paradigum.
00:36:49
Speaker
The toy line spawned an animated series produced by Film Roman in which the storyline replaced the original toy's storyline. The new story aged the protagonist and involved finding his signature cap and an artifact owned by his mother. The cap allowed the protagonist and his friends to jump through time portals to fight the Skullmaster. Yep. Which was vastly different than the original story. Way different, yeah.
00:37:17
Speaker
Yeah, I remember they were kind of...
00:37:21
Speaker
Because at that time, when that cartoon was on, that was around the same time as the young Indiana Jones TV show that was on James Bond Jr. was on around that time. So they were doing that whole. James Bond Jr. was another candidate for this week. I'm OK mentioning that. I actually have. I was like, this is too easy. Yeah, I actually have. Well, now my daughter has it. But my doctor, no figure, I think she has from James Bond Jr.
00:37:51
Speaker
But yeah, they were kind of playing into that whole like archaeology. You can be an archaeologist too. Which you can be. Anybody can be. Anybody can be. If you dream it, you can do it. Yeah, do what you want. So was that the last clue? That was the last clue. Yeah. Well, good one, Dave. I mean, Mighty Max, we recently did Mighty Max for our Throwback Thursday on Instagram. Probably a month or two ago.
00:38:22
Speaker
Those were great toys. Yeah, they were cool. All of those. They were kind of like the micro machine heads. Yep. All of those encapsulated things, right? Like, it's a shame we're not talking about road trip toys anymore. Well, what's cool with those, it was like you had, you could get as many as you want. You didn't need to, but you had everything you needed in one. Yeah. Yep. You had a playset. It had, a lot of them had, um,
00:38:50
Speaker
They ranged from as simple as, I remember one was like a, like a Cyclops looking guy.

Mighty Max vs Polly Pocket: A Comparison

00:38:56
Speaker
Like when you close it looks like a head with you know, just one eye like the Cyclops monster and when you open snake there was yeah and like the that one like you opened it and it was really just kind of like Max a monster and you know just kind of some like deco inside and it was small like it was you know smaller than Say like a you know at the time it was it was about it was smaller than like a Walkman or a Discman whereas
00:39:25
Speaker
Whereas you could get the more complicated ones that had like moving pieces inside where like doors opened and closed and you know, there was, you know, I remember like, you know, that was like the snake drawbridge. Yeah. Those those were super cool. Yeah. Even now, like, you know, we were going through the the original Polly Pockets.
00:39:45
Speaker
And some of them still have light effects that are running on the original batteries. They're just designed so well that they just kind of hold up to time. Yeah.
00:39:58
Speaker
So good one, Dave. Thank you. Mighty Max. So I guess those reminded me too of like, or like the Legends of the Hidden Temple reminds me of Mighty Max in a way. Yep. Yep. And if you aren't, if you haven't watched it yet, definitely watch on, on Star Wars kids, YouTube, the, um, the Jedi temple challenge TV show. Um, it's Legends of the Hidden Temple hosted by, uh, Ahmed best. Ahmed best. Thank you. Um,
00:40:25
Speaker
of Jar Jar Binks fame, but he plays the the Jedi host of the show. And it's the show was wonderful. It's it's Legend of the Hidden Temple, but Star Wars. Yeah, it's great. It's that's fun. So as we mentioned, we're not doing our road trip to his today. We are going to talk about the evolving story of the AEW unrivaled line wave, developing story. It's developing.
00:40:53
Speaker
We technically were there to see the introduction of the products in person, right? We were there at Toy Fair. We saw the prototypes, we saw- Yeah, I think they were announced on the episode before of Dynamite. Yeah. We've had the opportunity to speak to Jeremy.
00:41:16
Speaker
about these toys. He revealed some things about them on the show in terms of their availability and what to expect. Like you mentioned, he has been a hallmark of what transparency and
00:41:33
Speaker
and customer care should be for collectors from these companies. It really is amazing. If at this point, if you have been lucky enough to get your hands on some of these, which some people have, they're wonderful products. But if you are still in the hunt for these, as you are, Dave, and I guess you could say technically as we are,
00:41:57
Speaker
Yeah, if you are mad at jazzwares, I don't know what I don't know what to say to you. It's I can't help you. Yeah, I mean, you can. And I mean, this will kind of be like the the roller coaster of my day.

The AEW Figure Hunt Adventure

00:42:12
Speaker
You know, you can kind of be. Frustrated that you it hasn't happened yet for you. But I think that's kind of this is getting back to like that thrill of the hunt idea. Yeah.
00:42:26
Speaker
Um, and that was, that was definitely today. Um, so there have been, um, a couple of days since the, uh, the launch date was announced, um, where I've just kind of gone to Walmart's, um, early to see if they're there. Um,
00:42:47
Speaker
And so far, you know, nothing in our area, but, you know, you look online, you see they've been showing up kind of other places, nowhere really where it's like kind of. I'll say condensed. It's just showing up at places. So I have I have a little bit of tiny breaking news for New Jersey right now. I just got a message from from at Fig Heel.
00:43:15
Speaker
on, on Instagram, which if you're not following him, follow him. Uh, especially if you like wrestling figures, awesome, awesome collection. He's got some great displays. Uh, he, as it turns out is also in New Jersey and he found the entire wave. I'm looking at him right now, Dave. He found them in Berlin, New Jersey. So he found them in South Jersey. So they are urban Philadelphia. So they are hitting. Continue.
00:43:43
Speaker
And it looks like apparently they're hitting, you know, the New York area as well. New York, New Jersey area. So, you know, I've been going kind of, not every day, because I just can't. But I've gone a couple days where it's like, all right, let's just see what happens. Worst comes to worst, like that's how I picked up that Lana figure. She was there and I was like, oh, cool, I need this.
00:44:12
Speaker
You know, it's also a good way to be able to, you know, if you could find a Freddie Blassie or something along those lines. Maybe even a Gorilla Monsoon. Yeah. Or, you know, the Masters of the WWE Universe or really anything else that you're looking for. You know, sometimes it's good to go early. Yeah. It's also not very crowded, so you can get in and out pretty quickly.
00:44:42
Speaker
And, you know, this is kind of going back to our our tips right from earlier earlier back in the archives. Yeah. So today I was like, all right, I am off today. I have nothing to do. I'm going to go hit a couple of stores and see what happens. So I go to a couple of stores in my area. Nothing. Not even anybody to ask. Nothing going on.
00:45:12
Speaker
So I'm like, all right. You know, I decide to go to Target to see what they have, which, by the way, the Rick Rude with the. Where the robe rubs off on his arms and then you can't clean it, it's a real. Oh, yeah, that's right. You did. You gave that a shot and I returned it because it's bad.
00:45:36
Speaker
But I know that there's the running change of that coming soon. I just figured since it's here, let me take a shot. But yeah, so good on Mattel for doing that running change. So if you've listened to the episode of the Cornercast, the Caster's Corner podcast, where I was asked, like, how do you not use any of the tools that
00:46:06
Speaker
collectors use in order to find things. I decided, okay, with these, because things have been kind of just showing up, let me give it a shot. Let me just see what this is like. So I did, and I've been. And then I saw today, as I was pulling in from Target, oh, here's one place where it's shown up.
00:46:34
Speaker
Oh, it's just popping up all around the area. So I reached out to you and was like, hey, let me know if these change because I guess I'm going on a road trip. Yeah, I unfortunately, I would have been happy to to to be a second set of legs for you today. But I I was I was indisposed. I couldn't get out of the house.
00:47:02
Speaker
Now, the one thing that I will say is amazing and is kind of just. I'll say it's I'll go so far as to say this is kind of like borderline unprecedented for a toy line in a while, just the amount of demand and kind of hype for these people want these. Well, I mean, it makes sense. It's been I mean, how many years has it been since there's been more than one
00:47:32
Speaker
like toy line. Yeah. Wrestling toy line. At least one that's kind of mainstream, wildly popular. So this is like that's what's really cool is that this is. This is something that people are looking for. So another thing well done for jazzwares, because.
00:47:54
Speaker
people are going to buy these. As soon as they can get their hands on them, they're going to buy them. And that's just kind of what it seems like being out because when I got, so I went back to, so I went to a store, I'm trying to remember which order I did this in. Okay, so I went to one of the stores that I went to this morning because I saw it pop up, because it's close to my house. And this is on this is on Bricsique.
00:48:24
Speaker
Yes, you're seeing you're seeing this pop up. So I like. Run to, you know, legally, of course, but I, you know, make my way to that store. You know, I'm power walking through the parking lot, all that good stuff.
00:48:44
Speaker
I get to the aisle and it's like it's almost like it was it's like a movie where I get to the aisle and I kind of like come to a stop and go down the aisle and see the empty pegs. And all of a sudden somebody else does the same thing right behind me. Well, wait, let me let me let's rewind it for a second. So you're let's let's do a little bit of like a little bit of introspective play by play. So you have that you have that feeling, right? You get it. You get to the parking lot. You can feel your heart rates elevated a little bit.
00:49:14
Speaker
You're excited, your stomach hurts a little bit. You're like, you're doing that, you're doing that, you know, the walk that like, if somebody looked at you, they're like, oh, he probably has to pee real bad. Like, it's like that, that uncomfortable speed walking. Yes, because you don't want to run because like, don't be that guy. Also, you're also trying to social distance as well. Yep. Added added layer of of I don't want to say awkwardness, but added added level of stress.
00:49:44
Speaker
But also, you know, mask face covering on everything like kind of I got my hand sanitizer in my car like I'm I'm good. So, yeah, so I go get to the store, get down the aisle. One person comes behind me and starts kind of like meandering by where I am. And then another person comes and goes, a W. We're like, yeah. None. Nope.
00:50:13
Speaker
Okay We've all been there before man like we've all been there before with a toy line where it's like Most recently I think for me it was probably the the even though I'm on pre-order those retro Marvel Legends of spider-man once where it's like I thought you were it like when you were talking about the the child last week and
00:50:38
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah that too, you know turtles yeah turtles no turtles like no turtles Full disclosure. This is the most I've been out Like I might go to like one local store in a in a morning I've never been to three let alone the same one twice. I
00:51:01
Speaker
You went to a different state. Well, that was next. So up next, I I'm driving to a different state. I'm driving to New York state. And so. I call you on the phone and I'm like, let me know if the if it changes, because then I'll just turn around like easy enough. Right. Yeah. So I get there. I get to that Walmart in New York state.
00:51:30
Speaker
and um i'll give it a shout out it's the suffer new york walmart yeah i was gonna say you gotta you gotta give a location for this one because this one has an added layer of this one has an added layer of fun to it um and by the way none of this is there is no complaint here there is no
00:51:50
Speaker
bad mouth, everything, like, it's probably the most fun, but like still kind of stressful of hunting that I've done in a while. Yeah, but everyone was, everyone was civil. Everyone was Yeah, everyone was great. There's no issue with anything whatsoever. Um, no issues anywhere. And then and like I said, this is, this is a product that people want.
00:52:16
Speaker
So the fact that is the fact of the matter is until there's enough of a demand to produce more of these or produce like kind of enough of these.
00:52:31
Speaker
so that way everyone can get them, this is gonna be what we have to do. And if you've followed Jeremy Padour on Twitter, he's been kind of keeping people up to date with sales numbers and things like that and kind of what future production runs might look like and things of that nature. So again, I want to stress this. There is no complaint whatsoever. This is just my story of the day. So I get to leave Walmart in Suffolk, New York.
00:53:00
Speaker
I'm, you know, again doing my power walk through the parking lot because at this point it's just like, you know, if everything feels like a movie, like, you know, so I get to the aisle and I see of zombie sailor toys fame and major wrestling figure podcast fame, zombie sailor. And I go, zombie, you here for what I'm here for? He goes, yep.
00:53:30
Speaker
I go, doesn't look like there's any. He goes, nope. So we were talking for a little bit about it. So shout out to Zombie Sailor. Zombie Sailor, what a guy. Awesome to meet him. And I was like, yeah, we're recording tonight, so I'm going to give you a shout out. So here it is. It was awesome to meet you, Zombie.
00:53:56
Speaker
Um, so meanwhile, while this is happening, I'm sitting there continually refreshing because you had, you had told me that you got to suffer and, but you know, like I'm still sitting there within and we're, we're close enough in New Jersey to, to suffer and where like if on brick seek it automatically like gives you suffering as a nearby location.
00:54:20
Speaker
Um, as I'm sitting there refreshing all of a sudden my local warm Walmart, like the one that whenever, you know, whenever you see the, the Riverdale Walmart and target, like that's, that's my, that's my contribution to the toy hunts and the pictures. Um, you, you will see, uh, I see that there are six plus in stock at, at Riverdale Walmart.
00:54:44
Speaker
And without even batting an eye, I hit that link. It took me to Walmart. It opened up the Walmart app on my phone and it gave me the option to do in-store pickup. So I set the SKU, by the way, that we're looking at is the case assortment SKU.
00:55:02
Speaker
It's the one everybody's using. Yeah. Just to be fully transparent here, it's the 737-369-577 SKU. Again, the one that everyone is using right now.
00:55:20
Speaker
So it says case assortment, you know, style may vary. I hit five because there's I know aside from Brandy, you know, there are five that are kind of available. So I had an order for five. I hit place order. I immediately text Dave like, hey, I was able to put in an order for five of them. They canceled it.
00:55:41
Speaker
So that happened once I got to the store went there and saw nothing Yeah, cuz I was like, you know, let me hedge my bets I'm close. I'm actually closer to going there at this point than I am to going home. Yeah So at that point I'm like, all right, there's nothing here I'm gonna come pick up that razor Ramon in that belt and I'm going home. I'm gonna call it an evening so Um
00:56:11
Speaker
At this point, I'm home. Yeah, how many Walmarts have you been to now at this point? Five different, but one repeat, so six. Six Walmarts, we're now talking like three, four hours later. Three, four, I left at 9.30. Oh, really, it was that long. Okay, so we're talking a full day of work. I took maybe a half an hour, 45 minute break at one point,
00:56:41
Speaker
to open the Rick Rude and bring it back. Like that was... To question everything existentially. And to question everything existentially. And drink some water. I hadn't even eaten yet at this point. And I'm like, well, can I stop for something? Well, I can't really eat it because I need to wash my hands anyway. So I'll just wait till I get home and I'll have a snack. And you got to get that bottle of Purell to leave in your car.
00:57:09
Speaker
I do, but I, that's, that's good for like, oh, I'm going to now drive somewhere. But those hands are getting washed them in and again indoors. So, so now you're home and we, we check back in on brick seek. And, um, I guess this is the point where we can add the post that you made before the show, before we recorded. Yes. So, um, I check on another local store. Um,
00:57:40
Speaker
Which one was it, Teeterboro? Teeterboro and and Bhutan. Okay, so another one local to you and another one local to me. And so we put in that pickup. Let's do five. I did five.
00:57:55
Speaker
Um, you also did the same. Yes. So technically right now, as it stands, they have not been canceled yet. They're both marked for pickup tomorrow. Um, we, we technically have, as of, as of this moment, I just checked on mine before I said, before I said it. So mine is good. Mine's still good too. So we technically have 10 AEW figures between the two of us.
00:58:20
Speaker
from using that case assortment skewed. And the only reason, like, let's throw this out there, too. The only reason that there's 10 at this moment is because the one order got canceled. So it's like, well, if one of ours gets canceled, the other one may not. Yes. Plus, you still are on the fence about doing one to open, one to keep on card.
00:58:44
Speaker
I am. I'm on the fence about it because I like the idea of having a full wave of a first of something. Makes sense. Especially something that I really enjoy. Not necessarily to, like for example, one of the things I was talking to Zombie about in the one store was just like, I love the retro figures. I don't have any of them open because to me, the packaging is part of the allure to them. Yeah.
00:59:14
Speaker
Um, so that's why like I only have one of each one, they're all mint on card. And the packaging on these is gorgeous. It is. Um, it's, it's great. Um,
00:59:28
Speaker
You have the picture of the wrestler. You can see the entire figure, the accessories. It's an extremely well put together package to the point where I hope they don't change it down the road because it looks like it's a nice big package as well. It's a nice big... Think of the early elites or the classic superstars where it's just like,
00:59:58
Speaker
It's not the kind of pared down packaging that you have now. Yeah, accurate. The whole presentation is definitely kind of worthwhile. So we make a joke with each other.
01:00:17
Speaker
you know, because it says, you know, full disclosure, like when you when it takes you to the Walmart page does say style may vary may vary. But in the carousel of photos, there's no this is this is the first thing I thought because I said, I because you asked me why didn't you put in the pickup for suffering? And I said, because I don't want to wind up with five of one figure. Yes.
01:00:39
Speaker
And full disclosure, but when you do go to that, the website does say Styles May Vary. It does show you on the listing. It shows you Cody, it shows you Chase Cody, Chase Jericho, regular Jericho, Kenny, and then- Yeah, one of the young bucks. One of the young bucks. I think it's Matt, but I can't remember off the top of my head. So friend of the pod and amazing toy photographer, at Bob joint on Instagram,
01:01:08
Speaker
messaged me while I was going to pick up my dinner that he, one of his orders, he's in Pennsylvania, that one of his orders went through and his order for five and he was on his way to pick it up. So I immediately text Dave and I say, hey, look, this actually works. Like this does work. So, you know, fingers crossed this might work for us. He arrives at Walmart to receive exactly five
01:01:36
Speaker
Cody Rhodes figures, which is great. We love Cody. Yeah. Um, all, all, all the regular note, no chase five Cody Rhodes figures, which would have been cool if he got a case. Yeah, that would have been awesome. It's a one of 500. So that's, that's really cool. So he asks the Walmart employees. Oh, and they're out there because I think somebody posted that they got a Jericho.
01:02:01
Speaker
Yeah, ringside sent somebody. Ringside or yeah. OK, it was from ringside. So he asked the Walmart employees, he said, like, what was the deal? Why did I get five of the same figure? And there there answered him because the person that was giving him his pickup was actually the one that pulled it. Said I looked it up. And when I scanned the when the when the order came in, the first picture was this guy. And I matched it to the product.
01:02:31
Speaker
and it said five, so I gave you five of this guy. At which point, poor Bob. It's totally okay, I totally did it. It's a real, all right, so let's- I'll put it this way, it's the first thing I thought of when you asked me why I didn't do it. Well, also too, you have to remember that people who work at Walmart and work in the toy aisle,
01:02:58
Speaker
there is a really good chance that they do not give a shit about toys or wrestling. Like I asked somebody at my Walmart, cause I saw the belt for you and I saw the rings and I showed her a picture of the wrestlers and I said, by any chance did you get these in? And she's like,
01:03:17
Speaker
they all look the same to me. Aren't those those wrestlers that are on that shelf? And I mean, I was showing her a picture of the AEW, like the very like clear black and gold boxes. And she was like, I don't know, they change the boxes all the time. And that's 100% knowledge. Right. Totally right. Yeah. We're talking about a six inch scale.
01:03:39
Speaker
you know, wrestling figure and you know, the minutia of everything is what we do as collectors and what everyone who listens to this does as collectors. Yeah. And every other podcast does. I would not expect. Anyone who does not do this to know what any of this is, other than that, it's what they do for work. So long story short,
01:04:05
Speaker
We have these, these two preorders in. It has been a true hunt. Like this is, this is like what I imagine, you know, when our parents tell us stories, you know, before the internet, you know, when toys are us and KB toys were still around.
01:04:20
Speaker
And you're hitting all the different Toys R Us and KBs in the area to try to find whatever toy it was that was like at the top of the list. Yep. You talk, you know, you talk to a guy at one Toys R Us. It's like, you know, you're like a sort of like a sleuth. You know, you're figuring out as you go along because you talk to one Toys R Us and.

one guy at Toys R Us is willing to give you the information that like, yeah, you know, we're supposed to be getting a shipment of these on this date. So then like, you know, mom and dad know that they have to reroute on their way to work on their way home. Yeah, you know, in order to in order to get it. So you know, this does in a way kind of harken back to those pre internet, you know,
01:05:14
Speaker
in their heart of hearts, they want these figures. And Jeremy has been very transparent saying, again, we've mentioned it several times, but he's been very transparent with the fact that Jazzwares is fully aware that they are not going to meet demand with this initial set.
01:05:27
Speaker
proper toy hunting times.
01:05:31
Speaker
And the other part, too, is you've got like adult collectors. You've got one of the people I ran into. He was like, my kid wants these. Yeah. So it's like, but, you know, which of which, by the way, and I'm not just saying this, I would if they were there, I was going to defer to him.

Toy Hunts with Empathy and Patience

01:05:48
Speaker
Are you good on you? Yeah, that's that is that is being a human before it is being a collector. Yeah. He was like, it's my kid's birthday. He's looking for these things. I'm like, even if even if that dude was lying. Yeah.
01:06:02
Speaker
But the thing is, Jeremy made a very good point in one of his Twitter updates on this. He said, first impressions really matter at retail. And if you overproduce and you clog shelves, that just means that wave two is going to take that much longer to get out or may not even come out.
01:06:23
Speaker
Yeah, if we're getting to wave 20 of AEW figures and they're readily available, well, that's because we had to get to wave 20. Yeah.
01:06:34
Speaker
I mean, as fans and as collectors, we want to get to wave 20. Think about, not to say that Jazzverse is a smaller company because they are by no means a smaller company. They handle huge IPs like Fortnite and Pokemon and Halo and now AEW, but think about the companies that are like
01:06:56
Speaker
You know, like, like, think about like the big two, right? Think about Hasbro and Mattel. Hasbro and Mattel are probably arguably the two most recognizable toy manufacturers. Like they just, you know, between Star Wars and He-Man and Transformers and Ghostbusters. Yeah. All these companies, right? Even they have this problem where
01:07:23
Speaker
There is so much demand for the product that they're putting out that it often, and we as collectors, I feel like if we all kind of just decided to take this huge step back and take a huge deep breath and exercise a little bit more patience.
01:07:42
Speaker
that I think maybe these, you know, it would be easier to find these. Cause like I had the Ghostbusters figures from, from Hasbro on pre-order and I got them and I was super happy. And you know, I had them like, quote unquote, I don't want to say early, but like earlier than they were hitting retail and it was great. I felt great about it. And then I didn't see them. Like I didn't see them on shelves and I was like, Oh man, it's a good thing. I pre-ordered these now, now every single target I go to, I could get three of each character if I wanted to.
01:08:12
Speaker
Same goes for a lot of the Marvel Legends. People are going crazy for that Deadpool wave right now. They're going crazy for the Spider-Man retro wave right now. The most recent wave of WWE elites, the one with the Fiend in it, and Visera. People wanted those figures as soon as they were available to have.
01:08:37
Speaker
you know, you'll see people hop on Mercari and they'll they'll pay extra for it because you know, one got out of the warehouse and you know, somebody's charging, you know, $80 $90 for it. If you wait
01:08:52
Speaker
I would say 90% of the time, you will find the thing that you're looking for. It will happen. And these AEW figures, I think, are no different. Because even, as Jeremy said, they want as many people to get these as possible. But in order to make that experience the best possible one at retail, where they're not clogging shelves, where the supply chain is not
01:09:19
Speaker
encumbered by the amount of product that's sitting on the shelves, they need to make these initial waves scarce so that they can produce more and that they can show that the figure is selling or the figures are selling. I think that's just what we're experiencing right now. Frankly, it's thrilling. I keep refreshing my phone, not out of anxiety, out of
01:09:43
Speaker
excitement. Like I want to get the other part of it too. The other part of it too is you know, you know, we've been kind of cooped up all of us for months. And this is the thing that's kind of like the thing that's launching as we're all kind of reactivating. Yeah, coming out of our caves and adjusting to the new normal.
01:10:05
Speaker
So with that said, kudos to Jazzwares and AEW for having a product that looks fantastic. You know, from the Jericho so far is fantastic. And, you know, that everyone's seen and that I'm very much looking forward to opening because it's an awesome
01:10:31
Speaker
It's an awesome moment in the early history of AEW, but it's also, you know, we're at this point where, you know, we're excited for not only new, but just excited in general. It's a great time that for everyone that is being down on the aftermarket and scalping and, you know,
01:10:56
Speaker
all of the shitty practices that are permeating through the toy community. Overall, it is a great time to be a toy collector. Toys have never looked this good. The faces, the detail, the deco, the packaging, the poseability, the toy photographers that are out there, your
01:11:20
Speaker
Darth Dandadas, your D-amazings, your Geeky Fresh, your Just J Hernandez. These guys are taking these amazing figures and they're bringing them to life and teaching everybody how to pose them and showing off all these amazing effects. You have all these incredible lines from our collective childhoods that are coming back to life through companies like NECA and Hasbro, Mattel.
01:11:49
Speaker
All in all, I think as down on a lot of things that you can be down on in 2020, which there is a lot you could be down on in 2020, I think being an action figure collector should be one of those things that's still giving people joy because there's just so much out there to buy. It's kind of incredible. That said, I am so looking forward to never using these tools again.
01:12:17
Speaker
So you wait, so you're done with brick seek? You're not you're not going to be a brick seeker. This like. It is. No, it's. I enjoyed more the idea of like, oh, I'm just going to go into someplace and see what happens. Interesting. So this this experience has has sullied the the tool for you. I mean, it's.
01:12:47
Speaker
You get there and nothing's there. Even though it says it's there. Yeah, I mean, it's definitely frustrating. But at least it gives you. So here's the way that I think you have to look at it. I was going anyway. But I think it gives you some sort of direction, right? Because you wouldn't have driven up to suffering. No, but it gave you a it gave you a like it gives you a chance.
01:13:17
Speaker
Because yeah, you could fire off into the dark and maybe hit something. But at least this is a rare instance. I think this is a super rare instance where you cannot trust this app really with this because they're either selling out so quickly or the way that they're being delivered into Walmart, especially
01:13:42
Speaker
You know, like we talked about that third company coming and setting up the, um, the shipper with the, with the AWW figures and the UFC figures. I think, I think this is just a weird instance. I, I hope, listen, I'm going to keep using the tool. So if there's ever anything that you, that, you know, that I'm looking for for you, I, I will continue to use it. Um.
01:14:05
Speaker
But I guess we'll see what happens with our pre-orders and we'll keep a close eye because I think the new kind of like official date, Jeremy was talking about the 18th or 19th as like the, by the 18th or 19th, this should officially be in all stores for real, which we're still a few days off from that. So yeah, we'll be a lot closer to,
01:14:31
Speaker
to that once this is released, of which, by the way, we were definitely right at the end of last episode and saying, yeah, this will probably be the topic for next week. Yeah. Yeah. And Dave, and I think with that. And I got to meet Zombie Sailor, so that was neat. Yeah. And I think with that, we're going to rest our brains and our legs.
01:15:00
Speaker
Definitely my legs. I walked a lot today. And I'm going to say the same thing we always say on our Instagram for our store reports to close us out today. If you're headed out there, be safe, wear a mask, wash your hands, be kind to your retail employees, and happy hunting.
