Speaker: Hi Hannah, just a dash of milk and no sugar in my tea please. Hi Pete, milk with two sugars for me. Got great news Hannah, our reticent cafe proprietor, Catho Ray here, has said we can host our brand new old TV podcast from his very cafe. That's fantastic Pete.
Speaker: Each episode we can pick a theme and then use it to discuss three episodes of British television. from across the decades of the cathode ray area that sounds fantastic but you know what ray's like he's very finickety and he's saying we must have been able to watch these programs on a crt television set and and what's what's one of those It's cathode ray tubes. It's the big boxy TVs you used to have to have in in the corner of your living room Oh, from Victorian times. Like the one in the corner of Ray's Cafe. Oh, that one right there with the little generic blue teacup on top of it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker: I had a CRT TV set until about 2012. I think I had one until about 2014, but then it went in the loft and we got a flat screen one. And then I was doing the dusting, which isn't a regular thing, and I accidentally broke it when I picked it up and cracked the screen. So we had to get the big CRT one came back. But that's a long story. We're talking up to 2010-ish when telly came out of a big machine that fired radioactive beams into your eyes. That's quite lot telly.
Speaker: But Hannah, this is a crazy idea. We're sat here in our cafe. Suddenly we've had the to a podcast. Why would anyone want to listen to it? I really like sharing telly with people, Pete.
Speaker: Over tea, cake, and biscuits, coffee, and sometimes beer. And not necessarily stuff that's always considered classic telly. i'm listening. But it's interesting. I think it can be interesting for lots of different reasons. And I just liked the idea of sharing more telly with more people. People might have seen some of the shows we talk about, but they might not. And then they can go off and hopefully we'll have told them about something new to them that they can go off and enjoy. or Well, maybe not enjoy always, but they'll find it interesting in some way or another. And and we can have guests on the podcast. yeah And they can bring shows that we don't even know about and and ideas and stuff to talk about. it's going to be great, Pete. Sounds amazing.
Speaker: And when I saw that list that you scribbled on the back of that coaster, or on the back of several coasters, of TV shows, half of them I've seen a bit or I've heard of. I'm suspecting there's someone there you've just made up. We'll find out as we go. i just hope plenty of people are going to think this is a cool idea and come and join us and sit and talk about three different TV shows that addressed a similar theme in different ways over the decades. Well, yeah, I hope Ray gets plenty of new regulars at the cafe here. I'm really looking forward to sharing more telly with more people.
Speaker: Things we've got lined up already include treachery, teenage kicks, smashing machines and terrifying children.
