Tam Lawrence
Welcome to Aging in America. As we know, aging is something that's the inevitable, right? It's something that's going to happen to us all eventually.
Proactive vs Reactive Aging
00:00:14
Tam Lawrence
But there's so much more to the aging industry and societal events that will take place. And inevitably, if we're not willing to be proactive,
00:00:30
Tam Lawrence
Families will have to be reactive. And the reactive position is not always the best position to be in.
Exposing Care Home Conditions
00:00:40
Tam Lawrence
And I've literally written um so many different articles on this particular subject matter that I felt like there had to be a podcast to talk about what it is to age in America and expose the horrific conditions.
00:01:01
Tam Lawrence
and the secrecies that are happening in nursing homes and group homes and crimes against seniors and the protective

techniques or tips that people will need to take in order to protect their loved ones.
Personal Caregiving Experience
00:01:22
Tam Lawrence
I personally um cared for my mom for over 13 years.
00:01:28
Tam Lawrence
In seven years, i was a caregiver to my mother um who had elevated dementia, which is really not elevated dementia, it's vascular disease.
00:01:40
Tam Lawrence
And I want to talk about vascular disease and have a couple of wonderful, amazing professional physicians come on ah to talk about it as well, because people need to understand exactly how vascular disease leads to dementia and what that entails and how to you know, live better or to be aware of some of the foods that we're putting into our bodies because they carry toxic chemicals that cause vascular

disease. But a lot of it goes
00:02:14
Tam Lawrence
into some more really deep conversations that we're going to dive into as we continue with this particular podcast. And so I welcome you to use your time currency and spend it here.
00:02:28
Tam Lawrence
If you have loved ones, which we all do, that will age, if we have parents, whether you're a foster child or you have your maternal parents, it's important for you to know exactly what is it, what's the future of aging in America and how to identify the proper source for care, the proper source for guardianship, conservatorship,
00:02:56
Tam Lawrence
All of those things will matter.
Grief, Loss, and Trauma
00:02:58
Tam Lawrence
And I want to bring it to the world because my experience with taking care of my mother felt like we were going through hell before she was going to get to heaven, before her entry into heaven, because my mom passed away. um And not only did my mom pass away, my uncle, and when you hear the story about what happened with my uncle,
00:03:24
Tam Lawrence
And also my grandmother passed away and then my brother in the last two years. So I'm very familiar with grief and how to handle it.
00:03:35
Tam Lawrence
And I'm going to tell you, I didn't handle it so well when it happened to me. um what the the process was never something that people really sat down and said, hey, this is how you're going to deal with it.
00:03:47
Tam Lawrence
There's no one way to deal with grief, but i can guarantee you that it is something that if you're not dealing with it properly, it can become an untreated trauma.
00:04:00
Tam Lawrence
And so we're going to get into untreated trauma as well.
Senior Care vs Other Issues
00:04:03
Tam Lawrence
I'm glad to be releasing this podcast during the month of May because this is so serious.
00:04:11
Tam Lawrence
um And i think that it is time for the people to take care of their own affairs because government isn't paying attention to the vulnerable aging.
00:04:26
Tam Lawrence
We hear so much about tariffs and other issues that are taking place, but the spotlight has to be put on the senior care or the aging in America, because as long as you continue to keep living, you're going to age.

00:04:46
Tam Lawrence

00:05:04
Tam Lawrence
These things have happened and they're recent and they're continuing to happen. And we're gonna talk about probate. Probate is one that I think everyone needs to be familiar with.
00:05:18
