Dave Margolis: Greetings, everybody. Welcome to the latest episode of Laughing Liberally Arizona. Yaz, L -A -Z. Gotta have a shortcut for this thing.

Dave Margolis: I'm Dave Margolis. My friend Phil Gordon will be joining us shortly. We are looking at getting into the... season of autumn. Is that the first day of autumn? It might be today.

Dave Margolis: Anyway, we've been very ah fortunate to have with us... We just had the anniversary of 9 -11 and... we've got with us someone very very uh instrumental and very important in those days here.

Phil Gordon: okay

Dave Margolis: uh the mayor of New York at the time. He's also met with the current mayor. Mamdani very recently. I'd like to get his thoughts on that. Welcome, um Mr. Giuliani, Mr. Mayor.

Dave Margolis: Thank you for joining us.

Phil Gordon: dave oh yo ah but ah but i happened to be what you get, where's Phil?

Dave Margolis: thanks i'm glad to hear you're in good spirits mr mayor can you give us uh some other truth

Phil Gordon: So I was just... I was just looking at a map of where the Twin Towers used to be.

Dave Margolis: but but So great to see you again. You know, you're a regular visitor on our radio show, Is This On? and We know you were involved in the 9 -11 remembrance.

Dave Margolis: Can you give us some some thoughts and and some of your impressions?

Phil Gordon: I will. I was at the celebration. It was good to be there. Although it brought back a lot of sad memories for me and for all of the New Yorkers.

Phil Gordon: minus 3 ,000, of course, who we grieve. Go to the state, Dave. And back in New York, I was in... My apartment you know on the east side, my beautiful condo.

Phil Gordon: Which, you know, sadly is part of the... Settlement! I had to turn it over to those two, the mother and the daughter, Dave.

Phil Gordon: It was Shay... Shay Moss and Ruby Freeman. Dave. And they, uh, now... Well, here's the thing. It's a good thing I have an attorney, Dave, or I used to be an attorney.

Phil Gordon: I have figured it out! Gotcha! I had to turn over the condo to him, Dave. But it didn't say anything about me leaving. So I I locked myself in the closet.

Phil Gordon: I'm still in the condo! can They don't let me have anything. I can't even use the bathroom, Dave. That's why I can't even shave. I got a beard now. It's horrible. I'll tell you something, one thing I'll tell you this, it smells like critch and... he And then Chitlin's in there all the time.

Dave Margolis: So so you you you locked yourself in your luxurious townhouse. Since they were taken away from you and and now you can't get out because the the new owners are

Phil Gordon: Let's go ahead.

Phil Gordon: They did take it away from me. The sisters, not the sisters, the mother and the daughter, they moved in. I don't know what they're doing in there. They got big boxes. I'm sure it's full of votes.

Phil Gordon: Remember, Dave, you remember when... Of course, I... yeah I discovered through my intensive investigations of the election fraud in 2020.

Phil Gordon: When President Trump won by a landslide, Dave! as he likes to say, and I think he was right about that, they were passing around the votes, Dave, like it was heroin. If you recall, I uncovered that.

Phil Gordon: Anyway. We're here for the celebration. Let's not... Let's not. Get back down on bed. I'm very safe. So I'm in the closet of the condo.

Dave Margolis: Bye -bye.

Phil Gordon: ah You know, every once in a while, I go out, I get myself some food, I sneak back in, and it's it's not a good life, Dave.

Dave Margolis: So cool.

Phil Gordon: I said it with life.

Dave Margolis: So so they they don't know that you're in there. Okay.

Phil Gordon: They do not know.

Dave Margolis: I don't know that.

Phil Gordon: I don't... Who knows what they don't do? They're too busy counting illegal votes.

Dave Margolis: Have you thought about pretending you're a ghost or something, like the place is haunted and maybe they'll scare away? I saw this in an episode of Scooby Doo one time, and I think it might work in your situation.

Phil Gordon: It's funny that you say that, Dave. I got a lot of my legal, uh... opinions from watching Scooby -Doo.

Dave Margolis: what

Phil Gordon: It was very helpful to me all the time. That's a good idea. I'm going to try that. and see what goes on. Otherwise, maybe I'll be back in Arizona.

Phil Gordon: You know, I had a place. I was staying at the ah Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Farm.

Dave Margolis: Oh, yeah, sure.

Phil Gordon: for a while.

Dave Margolis: yeah

Phil Gordon: I think you guys visited me there.

Dave Margolis: yeah Thanks very much, sir.

Phil Gordon: And now... Not only did I work that day, but I made a very... Tape connection with an ostrich there.

Dave Margolis: It's not a problem.

Phil Gordon: And I think I could stay with her. if if If I could get out there, I don't know what I'm going to do. Anyway... um We will never forget, Dave, as we like to say. yeah Uh...

Phil Gordon: 9 -11. End up. we yeah we We pray and we we we remember those that stood by. It's a beautiful memorial they've built here. Dave, have you been there?

Dave Margolis: I have been there. Yes, I was there in, I think. It's around 2006 or 2007, something like that. uh,

Dave Margolis: that that I visited. There hadn't been anything really built up yet, but it was... ah Yeah, it was very very it was very touching. I didn't expect to be kind of... affected the way I was just

Phil Gordon: We're... Keep moving, Dave.

Dave Margolis: Yeah.

Phil Gordon: Wait a minute. Do I hear another plane, Dave? i that

Dave Margolis: but

Phil Gordon: Oh my god! I think another plane is heading to the tower! I gotta go, Dave. I better go.

Dave Margolis: Okay. All right.

Phil Gordon: Fight!

Dave Margolis: Mr. Wendt, thanks for stopping by.

Phil Gordon: I'm out of here. I got a parachute in the closet, Dave. I'm out of here.

Dave Margolis: I was trying to point out to Mr. Giuliani that... i am reporting to you just a few miles from Davis Month in Air Force Base here in Tucson, Arizona.

Dave Margolis: that's probably what he heard. in the background and he thought it was a plane but That's okay. It was nice to meet with him. nice he's a living comfortably. Last time we met him, we actually bumped into him ah at ah at a dumpster outside a radio station and and he always keeps a pleasant outlook, you know, an upbeat guy and It was nice to have him here, if only briefly.

Dave Margolis: But it's nice to know he is now comfortably ensconced in the closet of his... his former luxurious townhouse. which has now been taken over by the women who he defamed and slandered and libeled and everything else. So I had to get those like things up. So thanks for joining us again, folks. We do this on a very...

Dave Margolis: Periodic. Timetable whenever we feel like getting on here. So we're going to be talking to you today about some various comedy things we saw uh phil and i attended a ah robert mack was performing robert mack is in nationally known comedy actually travels around the world.

Dave Margolis: too And Robert Mack was in town. This is his hometown. of uh... home town of Tucson. He was actually born in Seattle, but he moved to Tucson and lived here most of them.

Dave Margolis: most of his life and then became a very successful comedian. and we went to see it and have some Some thoughts on that. We also, Phil and I watched the... trevor Trevor Noah special. It was on Netflix. and kind of do some reviewing of that, maybe some comparison too.

Dave Margolis: uh what else we got here we'll talk to phil a little bit about uh he's going to be traveling to Las Vegas soon. He can tell you a little bit about that. Phil likes to go to Vegas. He performs there a lot of times. and he'll be going there soon. And we might talk a little bit about special days in October. special birthdays, events that happen in the month of October. We like to go over those things.

Dave Margolis: and uh A few other topics we're going to talk about too. until It's done showing Mr. Giuliani to the door. yes So, oh, hey, Phil. I was just filling people in on our our plan. with's the

Phil Gordon: Go Dave!

Dave Margolis: Hey, how are you doing? Good to see you.

Phil Gordon: I'm doing great. I was just listening to your visit with Rudy Giuliani. Very incredible. ah So. is He is living in that condo.

Dave Margolis: The guy does not give up. See you guys in Dubai.

Phil Gordon: No.

Dave Margolis: Yep.

Phil Gordon: No, he is one. One bulldog of an attorney, I'll tell you that. day America's mayor. Wow.

Dave Margolis: i like you like it I like the mental image of him sneaking out of the closet to get some food and and sneaking back into his apartment to hide in the closet again.

Phil Gordon: Wake up.

Dave Margolis: Thanks so much.

Phil Gordon: Yes, that...

Dave Margolis: I'm a video guy.

Phil Gordon: the That doesn't sound like such a great life. If he gets back here to the ostrich ranch, Dave, let's definitely go see him.

Dave Margolis: You're welcome. Yeah. Yeah. yeah they think

Phil Gordon: We'll go up there.

Dave Margolis: He can get a good meal there.

Phil Gordon: and

Dave Margolis: People buy food to feed the... ostriches and the goats and the donkeys and you know He's in the way.

Phil Gordon: From some sorts of...

Dave Margolis: He's going to get some of that too. Good for him.

Phil Gordon: That's good. I think ostrich seeds or ostrich meal would be an improvement.

Dave Margolis: Ostrich Cow, yeah.

Phil Gordon: That'll be great. and we We should talk to the Ostrich Chow folks about a possible sponsorship day.

Dave Margolis: Rudy's picture on every bag. Thank you.

Phil Gordon: Exactly. Exactly. Well... I know Dave, we're very close to heading into October.

Dave Margolis: yes

Phil Gordon: And I know our audience always looks forward to your special days.

Dave Margolis: Special days in October. and That's all I've written so far. But yeah, so special days, let's talk about these here. We'll run through them pretty quickly here. We're at October 1st. It is the birthday of Rachel. Julie Andrews, Phil.

Dave Margolis: Over to you.

Phil Gordon: oh

Dave Margolis: julia

Phil Gordon: Mary Poppins. Sound of Music, Dave, a great great film.

Dave Margolis: He's been in art. in In our life for many, many years, I remember waiting online for Mary Poppins when I was about nine nine years old, nine, ten years old. And of course, everyone's seen Sound of Music.

Dave Margolis: And.

Phil Gordon: oh Julie Andrews, it may be England's greatest export, Dave.

Dave Margolis: And most recently, she has been known to the younger. generation as for her role in the Princess Diaries movies. with Anne Hathaway and Julia just played the queen. and sort of I think she has a very regal bearing.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave Margolis: and and a lot of the younger folks also because of that.

Phil Gordon: Always, always a joy. Wonderful actress. As I recall, Dave married, uh... To the film producer.

Dave Margolis: Blake Edwards.

Phil Gordon: Blake Edwards, so who did, of course, the Pink Panther series, among many others.

Dave Margolis: Okay.

Dave Margolis: A bunch of movies. He did the movie 10 with... Dudley Moore. and Bo Derek. And.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave Margolis: Also, well, my actually favorite thing about Blake Edwards was he was responsible for the great Peter Gunn TV series. In the late 50s, early 60s, it's a really, you've you've seen Peter Gunn.

Dave Margolis: I don't know if you've seen it recently, but it's a really good movie.

Phil Gordon: No.

Dave Margolis: Really good show. If you go back there and watch those two, it's like every character actor of the 1960s shows up on Peter Gunn at some point. and And it's a fun show. It's set right in that era where like the beatniks still existed and there were a lot of...

Dave Margolis: a lot of avant -garde artists going on and there's a lot of references, so there's a lot of jazz music is played. uh throughout the series it's really it's really fun

Phil Gordon: Wow. I... I recall that, of course, not very great specifics, but... I'm imagining if Blake Edwards directed it, it was great.

Dave Margolis: it was very good yeah very good it's like it's like a tv noir very dark Everything happens at night. A lot of stuff happens in jazz clubs.

Phil Gordon: Mmm.

Dave Margolis: and it's craig What is that guy's name? Craig?

Dave Margolis: Craig Stevens, Craig Stevens and then Lola Albright is his girlfriend and she's great.

Phil Gordon: Jazz Musician Day.

Dave Margolis: and Herschel Bernardi as the beleaguered uh policeman he has to deal with. it's it's i Definitely check it out. it's

Phil Gordon: Wow

Dave Margolis: Thank you.

Phil Gordon: Herschel Bernardi later of a Fiddler on the Roof thing.

Dave Margolis: Right, right, yeah. Herschel Bernardi. Also the voice of Charlie the Tuna.

Phil Gordon: Wow.

Dave Margolis: Yep. from

Phil Gordon: I'm glad I got that right, Dave, because Charlie the Tuna would not be a good Tevye.

Dave Margolis: October 4th, 10 -4 is the birthday of... Dakota Johnson, you know Dakota Johnson

Phil Gordon: Oh, ah I'd like to.

Dave Margolis: Beautiful. Beautiful actress. You know, I was thinking about Dakota Johnson and I go. You know, it seems like I'll throw out Fifty Shades of Grey because that was sort of a you know kind of a fluke, but you know.

Dave Margolis: She hasn't really made any really good movies. Most of her movies aren't very good, but she's so popular on talk shows. and on social media I kind of feel like she's this generation's Zsa Zsa Gabor. you know.

Phil Gordon: yeah

Dave Margolis: You don't know what she's famous for, but she's fun to have a around.

Phil Gordon: We need one, Dave.

Dave Margolis: No.

Phil Gordon: We but I thought that was Paris Hilton, but it could be Dakota Johnson.

Dave Margolis: No, I mean, like the drop shot, you know. People like Zsa Zsa

Phil Gordon: who Who doesn't like Chasha?

Dave Margolis: I don't know if that's true. I don't know if that's true about Paris, but they like Jaja, and they definitely...

Phil Gordon: Do you, do you know, always speaking of Zsa Zsa and talk shows, Dave. Always a wonderful guest on the Merv Griffin Show years ago. And then, if you recall, I always thought some hilarious segments with David Letterman.

Dave Margolis: Okay.

Phil Gordon: You recall they would often like go out in a car and drive through like fast food places in New York.

Dave Margolis: but but didn't didn't joia get Didn't she have an issue with the police? Didn't she slap a police officer or something at one point? It was kind of interesting.

Phil Gordon: Uh... you You might have been breaking up there a little bit, Dave. You were asking a question about Zsa Zsa.

Dave Margolis: Yeah, yeah. Didn't she have an incident with the police where she was that she slapped the policeman who pulled her over? Remember this story? Back around there.

Phil Gordon: Still having a little trouble hearing you. and Let's see if we can get back in the groove here, Dave.

Dave Margolis: you know when when you were showing mr giuliani out i got a note that said that we got We were cut off, but then we came back on. So there might

Phil Gordon: Okay?

Dave Margolis: Maybe a blip.

Phil Gordon: what it What is it showing you right now? I show a... A nice green check mark for the tests.

Dave Margolis: okay Let's go.

Phil Gordon: And I see a waveform of the...

Dave Margolis: i'm just there but it's not Can you hear me okay? Is it faint?

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave Margolis: Okay.

Phil Gordon: Now I can and you're not frozen like you were there for a second.

Dave Margolis: okay good So.

Phil Gordon: Is it very cold in your apartment, Dave?

Dave Margolis: nothing I got the AC going. Yeah. Let's see here. Okay, October 5th. famous birthday, very famous bridegroom. Travis Kelsey.

Dave Margolis: mr

Phil Gordon: Whoa!

Dave Margolis: Mr. Taylor Swift. birthday is on the fifth lucky day.

Phil Gordon: Travis Kelsey, who had himself a pretty nice game Sunday night in that Kansas City -Indianapolis game. Oh, here you look. At the end of last year, he looked like he had really slowed down a bit as a player.

Phil Gordon: But he's coming back with ah with a vengeance so far this year. Things must be good with. that

Dave Margolis: Home cooking.

Phil Gordon: you know

Dave Margolis: Now, i as you as you know...

Phil Gordon: I'd like to, I'd like to, I'd like some of that home cooking.

Dave Margolis: as As you know, Phil, I'm not. a fan of sports except for baseball. So now Travis Kelsey, was he? known as a star player prior to everybody finding out about him through his connection to Taylor Swift.

Phil Gordon: Oh absolutely as well as his brother is also a star player in the NFL. ah Travis, a very effective. Tight end. And I think Taylor Swift would say he has got a tight end.

Phil Gordon: And he's been very good. He's in in football years getting a little old. But... As I say, he really was all over the field on Sunday night, had a really good game.

Dave Margolis: Yes, sir.

Phil Gordon: So I think there's I think there's a little something in the tank still

Dave Margolis: i heard I heard Mrs. Kelsey was very proud of him. I think Boston had a good game. too

Phil Gordon: Yes, well, and you know you say, was he good? and Certainly a couple of Super Bowl rings on those s fingers.

Dave Margolis: All right, let's move along here. Now we've got a birthday coming up. October 9th is the birthday of... ah John Lin. John Lennon

Phil Gordon: Oh, my.

Dave Margolis: The great beauty.

Phil Gordon: Why, speaking of tragedies in Manhattan, Dave, right? It doesn't... If I'm not mistaken, isn't that the same building where Rudy is hiding in the closet? was where John Lennon lived.

Dave Margolis: expand

Phil Gordon: I think I'm right about this.

Dave Margolis: The decoder. Was it the decoder?

Phil Gordon: The Dakota.

Dave Margolis: but yeah Is that where his apartment was under the coat?

Phil Gordon: I think that's where Rudy's. Apartment was. If not, they are very close by.

Dave Margolis: Yeah, yeah that uh yeah that's uh that dakota has quite a history a lot of that very wealthy and famous people living there.

Phil Gordon: Yes. They're so sad, the John Lennon. It reminds me, Dave, of the... trip you and i made to see the you know recently released video of his last concert

Dave Margolis: Yeah. Yep. Yeah, which was very, very...

Phil Gordon: And it was quite interesting.

Dave Margolis: Okay. Yeah.

Phil Gordon: quite interesting i think uh

Dave Margolis: Pretty interesting.

Phil Gordon: My ears now have stopped hurting from the Yoko Ono songs.

Dave Margolis: Yeah, folks, we'll just say if you're a Beatles fan or a John Lennon fan, it's definitely a documentary worth checking out but there's a lot of Yoko in it. Beware.

Phil Gordon: yes

Dave Margolis: You everywhere you want want to have that mute button handy.

Phil Gordon: That's right.

Dave Margolis: Adios.

Phil Gordon: That's right.

Dave Margolis: Okay, we've also got a birthday coming up. October 14th, you're going to hear about a lot about this film. It's the birthday of Charlie Kirk.

Phil Gordon: Oh boy.

Dave Margolis: Charlie Kirk and.

Phil Gordon: Again, we're at a... line of... tragedies here, Dave.

Dave Margolis: Yeah, yeah.

Phil Gordon: Charlie Kirk, of course, assassinated last summer. And. the The birthday now, are you aware, Dave, how old would he have been?

Dave Margolis: I don't know offhand. He was fair.

Phil Gordon: Early 30s, maybe?

Dave Margolis: early 30s i would guess something like that and uh

Phil Gordon: And I know his his widow continues the... Movement of his day, right? political movement.

Dave Margolis: Yeah, she's in Turning Point, USA.

Phil Gordon: Yeah. There you go. I couldn't think of that.

Dave Margolis: she's very It's interesting, I've been reading about how you know Turning Point USA and Charlie Kirk himself were very strong advocates of. traditional family.

Dave Margolis: the wife. is the homemaker stays home and kind of you know serves the husband kind of thing and So. Mrs. Kirk is having some issues because she's trying to run Turning Point USA, but that's very much of a...

Dave Margolis: considered a masculine type of role, masculine type of job.

Phil Gordon: Mm.

Dave Margolis: it Kind of goes against what her whatever her figure is. All right.

Phil Gordon: I see. Well, maybe she can get herself a Travis Kelsey, Dave.

Dave Margolis: He's got a brother, right?

Phil Gordon: He's got a brother, right?

Dave Margolis: Okay, we've got another. um on On the 17th of October, it's the birthday of... Eminem. He's a great rapper.

Phil Gordon: And then I'm the rapper, the white rapper.

Dave Margolis: our Marshall Mathers, yep. you said.

Phil Gordon: Not to be confused with the candy coated chocolate.

Dave Margolis: Alright. I think he's 53 years old.

Phil Gordon: Wow.

Dave Margolis: And i you know I'm not into that. type of music at all. But I'm a fan of Eminem. My son was a big Eminem fan during his his peak years. And I was liking him. Very, very, you know, obviously a gifted lyricist and very and funny. like Good sense of humor. and ah He's a guy who has you know, had kind of a reputation as being maybe a little hard to get along with, a little prickly, a little, you know, tend to get...

Phil Gordon: Oh. Hmm.

Dave Margolis: agitated buddies He's done an awful lot to live a normal life. In fact, his... I think his daughter recently got married and he kind of... stayed out of the mainstream. He didn't want it to be about him. And it seemed like he's ah having ah having a pretty good life. for his for for what his success was.

Dave Margolis: so when you

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave Margolis: zero.

Phil Gordon: and and does he I'm not as familiar, though. that I certainly know who he is. ah Does he still record, Dave? Is he still performing?

Dave Margolis: You know, I don't think so. I don't think so.

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave Margolis: He'll pop up now and then like in a movie or something. I think he was in the... movie with one of the Adam Sandler's movies and I like that.

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave Margolis: I think he's performing, but you know.

Phil Gordon: I kind of associate... him in that time with another of the white Rapper's Vanilla Ice. ah who I believe still is performing.

Dave Margolis: i don't i don't I don't think Eminem would appreciate the comparison. but yeah

Phil Gordon: I see.

Dave Margolis: Okay.

Phil Gordon: Okay. I don't... I'm stepping in, as George Bush used to say, Dave, some deep doo -doo.

Dave Margolis: But... the and Oh, ah the next day, October 18th, just coincidentally, is the birthday of... Mayor Mamdani, the current mayor of New York.

Phil Gordon: Oh!

Dave Margolis: and

Phil Gordon: Didn't Rudy ah meet with Mondami?

Dave Margolis: Yep.

Phil Gordon: You know, it was great to see Rudy because we hadn't seen him for months. so Last we heard, he was hospitalized.

Dave Margolis: That's right. Yeah, I actually thought that might be it for him. It was very serious. and

Phil Gordon: You look good.

Dave Margolis: yeah mean know We know his penchant for smoking cigars and for drinking and usually That'll take its toll on you, but he's still hanging in there. so All right.

Phil Gordon: Yes. Well, we wish Rudy well. Good friend of the show.

Dave Margolis: what are your What are your impressions of Mondani?

Phil Gordon: I have been very impressed by Mayor Mondami. He continues, as as recently as yesterday, to meet with Trump as well. over issues that affect New York. In fact,

Phil Gordon: That would be the observation I have. He seems to be so very locally. Focus. as he said he would be. it a we don't live in new york but uh from what i read and and observe in journalism He seems to have made some. indent into child care.

Phil Gordon: that he promised he would do. And I believe on rent control. So he seems to be... fulfilling, you know, his, at least, vision. And he seems quite popular.

Dave Margolis: Well, you know the the Republicans We got a little political here for for a few minutes. You know, um Republicans are scrambling because Trump's

Phil Gordon: Sure.

Dave Margolis: popularity is so low and every time he opens his mouth it's something terrible comes out of it which We're used to, but people are starting to catch on to that. uh

Phil Gordon: Fake news!

Dave Margolis: But I think with Mandani and then what's your El and... ah Michigan. is also considered a socialist communist who's going to destroy our country.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave Margolis: All right.

Phil Gordon: Social Democrat.

Dave Margolis: I would say you know there's There's no coincidence that this is happening now because of the way the economy is and the great disparity between the wealthy in this country. and everybody else. and Does seem like something needs to change here. Of course, the people with the money are going to fight that. and money. tends to win out in the end but it's encouraging at least to see that people are looking like you know we can't go on this way with having

Dave Margolis: people who live they live in another world they're in a bubble people who are wealthy in the corporation uh ceos and things like that and the rest of us are just kind of scrambling by and you being being Being told that... Gas prices are low and groceries are low. and None of it's true, and something has to be done about that. so I'm encouraged that he's doing well.

Phil Gordon: Well, and then That seems to be... the building theme of the Democratic. hopefuls or unannounced candidates at this point, but Gavin Newsom.

Phil Gordon: Certainly is making that message of the. disparity in income equality. So funny, Dave, that... That message, as you a recall, goes way back to John Edwards.

Dave Margolis: Yep.

Phil Gordon: with the two Americas.

Dave Margolis: Yeah.

Phil Gordon: So that's been a... a focal rallying point of the Democratic Party for years. Ironically, there was the big NBC news poll released over the weekend.

Phil Gordon: A lot of the subject of the Sunday talk shows. And... While the Democrats... are polling better. They are still not polling that well among potential voters, the rise in independents.

Phil Gordon: the rise in social Democrats. So you'd have to. put in that category as well. So it's still not a settled electorate. I accept that everybody seems to recognize the...

Phil Gordon: losses for the Republican Party.

Dave Margolis: Yeah. It's going to be interesting to see it. because i yeah I don't quite. Believe the polls. I always feel like if if you're a person who...

Dave Margolis: At any point in your life felt that Trump was fit to be president? It's hard to trust your opinion if you say, like oh I don't support him anymore. well but one time you At one point you were stupid enough to think he was a great president.

Dave Margolis: Not really sure that you're... trustworthy on that. but It'll be an interesting be an interesting one.

Phil Gordon: Well. Uh... I agree with you. Of course, so we had James Carville on several weeks ago who gave us ah his analysis, so which was similar. And Dave, I... I'd say...

Phil Gordon: As we get close to the midterms, it it it'd be well worth having Bernie Sanders back on with us.

Dave Margolis: Yeah. Yep.

Phil Gordon: He'll have something to say about the Social Democrats, of which he is one. Uh... AOC, c of course, has been in the news too. of over the acknowledgement that she has frozen her eggs, which...

Phil Gordon: leads to some speculation that she's considering. Iran in 2028, holding off having children. Oh, oh. Fruit for discussion. We'll have to ask Bernie about it.

Dave Margolis: Yeah. yeah i i know it's early to get into this but when you look at the 28 election i mean it seems to me There are some good people around, and I think that i think ah Pete Buttigieg would be a great candidate.

Dave Margolis: I think I but I do feel like that that there should be a woman on the ticket.

Phil Gordon: Sure.

Dave Margolis: And I guess the most obvious woman is AOC. Although, you know...

Phil Gordon: Well, let's not forget, of course, Kamala Harris, Dave, who was the candidate in 2024.

Dave Margolis: Yes.

Phil Gordon: She's been a little cloudy on whether she's going to run again or not. And in fact. Gavin Newsom made some news by saying he will not run if she runs.

Dave Margolis: no Yeah, yeah.

Phil Gordon: So like much to be settled.

Dave Margolis: and

Phil Gordon: And there you can bet that... Laughing Liberally Arizona will be right on top of it.

Dave Margolis: Of course, yeah.

Phil Gordon: without question with all the political guests that we have. And. Let's not forget the midterm Republican convention that was just held. I've got a few thoughts on that coming up in our show.

Dave Margolis: Yeah, you know the thing about Kamala Harris is that you know it's especially on the Democratic side, it's like... How often does somebody lose an election?

Dave Margolis: and then run again. I don't think that's probably happened since like, Adlai Stevenson. you know to two

Phil Gordon: Well, what about Nixon?

Dave Margolis: on the Democratic side.

Phil Gordon: Oh, on the Democratic side, Dave, I see.

Dave Margolis: you know they used to say when they say democrats fall in love republicans fall in line You know, you have somebody.

Phil Gordon: Mm -hmm. Well, you'd have to say yeah that Bernie ran a few times.

Dave Margolis: Yep.

Phil Gordon: Hillary Clinton.

Dave Margolis: i love I love Bernie, but I'm very much in favor of our government getting younger. No.

Phil Gordon: a

Dave Margolis: I really think that's very important in the time we live in now. When you look at Chuck Grassley, you know. Platt Grassley, who's the senator from Iowa. Uh... and sadly uh

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave Margolis: 60 -some years ago, Buddy Holly died in a plane crash in Iowa. You know, if Buddy Holly were alive today, he'd be younger than Chuck Grassley. And...

Phil Gordon: That puts some perspective on it, Dave.

Dave Margolis: And a lot hipper, too.

Phil Gordon: definitely

Dave Margolis: But I mean, I just think it's crazy that we have these people, almost all men. Mitch McConnell. who are who are No. Affecting how we live our lives, but they have no connection to how people live at all, you know, I mean not It's not just age, a lot of them are. People are very wealthy who are in government, but I just think we have to get younger.

Dave Margolis: You gotta to get younger up there.

Phil Gordon: Well, I would agree with you, Dave. and You know, certainly your Gavin Newsom. Uh... wes moore an interesting younger candidate aoc a very interesting young candidate

Dave Margolis: Yeah. know

Phil Gordon: We will see, and it'll be, uh... Subject matter for us said in our coming shows.

Dave Margolis: yeah Yeah, we'll get political for sure. Moving along here, remember this guy actually just passed away. Do you remember Peter Max?

Phil Gordon: The artist.

Dave Margolis: The artist yeah, it was very very influential in the and i guess the 60s and 70s his artwork was everywhere and if you're younger as um Most people are younger than us, Phil.

Dave Margolis: uh and you see anything devoted to

Phil Gordon: Not Mitch McConnell.

Dave Margolis: You're not matching. If you see anything devoted celebrating the 1960s, you're guaranteed you're going to see some of Peter Max's work, because it was everywhere. and really set the style.

Dave Margolis: It just passed away about a week or so ago.

Phil Gordon: Oh, man.

Dave Margolis: But he had a he had a lot to do with how we looked at things in the 60s. And.

Phil Gordon: It had the very, what I would call from the the word of that day, Dave, a very Maude look about it.

Dave Margolis: But yeah.

Phil Gordon: m -o -d

Dave Margolis: Yep.

Phil Gordon: Big.

Dave Margolis: Yep.

Phil Gordon: flowers big colorful, you know flowers everywhere

Dave Margolis: I didn't get any of it.

Phil Gordon: um

Dave Margolis: rock and roll posters. If they weren't by Peter Max, it was his influence. His influence was everywhere. and in the advertising and and anything like that. so All right, pete Peter Maxo speaking. Oh, so we're just talking about Eminem and the 20th of October. It's the birthday of Snoop Dogg.

Dave Margolis: true

Phil Gordon: oh

Dave Margolis: Snoop and you want to look at a guy's career who went from like Snoop Dogg was like wasn't like all parents wanted Snoop Dogg banned from the airways and and they were making fun of him and all that stuff and I mean the guy's like almost everybody having a nice middle -aged life.

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave Margolis: you know, your your your rebellious heroes of your youth that turns out years later, they're just like, you know, mom and dad. you know

Phil Gordon: Well. Dave, these are the same parents that wanted the Beatles band, and now they're leaving flowers at John Lennon's grave you know when they go to New York. So I don't know that.

Phil Gordon: that the It was anything but hysteria. Snoop Dogg, an interesting guy. Kind of a funny guy, really. i always As he's mainstreamed, he hosts game shows now.

Dave Margolis: Yeah, he hangs out with Marcus.

Phil Gordon: He's very...

Dave Margolis: Thanks a lot Martha Stewart and he's very respectable. Oh.

Phil Gordon: As he is. and And, you know, I know. great fan of that genre of music, but he seems to be quite a competent musician.

Dave Margolis: All crossed over, yeah.

Phil Gordon: Yep.

Dave Margolis: Also on the same day, October 20th, is the birthday of Kamala Harris.

Phil Gordon: hu

Dave Margolis: Very, very soon.

Phil Gordon: Do you have an age there, Dave?

Dave Margolis: I think she's... 57 maybe 58 something like that I think

Phil Gordon: Okay, that would be within your range of still being a younger candidate or at least acceptable candidate age?

Dave Margolis: I'm not considering an older candidate anyway. and and um But like I said, with

Phil Gordon: She looks very youthful.

Dave Margolis: The thing is, it's... it's It seems like when Democratic candidates lose a presidential election, they become kind of... so stained by it. you know it's like uh you know there wasn't any big call to bring michael dukakis back for another run okay

Phil Gordon: No, there was not.

Dave Margolis: For anybody, you know.

Phil Gordon: There was that.

Dave Margolis: I'll be happy.

Phil Gordon: And then, you know, just to... To, uh... Present the counterpoint, Dave. Isn't it more about your ideas, if your ideas are youthful?

Dave Margolis: I'm not sure about that.

Phil Gordon: Okay, that's certainly the argument Markey is making. and man.

Dave Margolis: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to see. It's interesting. Well, you know, it's, it's. I think the problem that Democrats really have is that... It's going to be seen and easily easily depicted as they don't have anything except running against Trump Now, that may not be true.

Phil Gordon: There you go.

Dave Margolis: It may not be true.

Phil Gordon: Well, speaking of old, right.

Dave Margolis: But there's a feeling of that. Now to me...

Phil Gordon: Alright.

Dave Margolis: Me, that's enough. What?

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave Margolis: I might have heard in in the elections and I think

Phil Gordon: Dave, well, and if Bernie's watching this show and when we have him on. now He may send you to bed without your tapioca pudding.

Dave Margolis: Hey, I'm just just reporting what i what I see. That's all. Okay, guys, living through October here on the 21st is the birthday of one of your favorites I know, Phil Kim Kardashian.

Phil Gordon: Oh yes.

Dave Margolis: We'll be, uh...

Phil Gordon: All of the Kardashians.

Dave Margolis: 45 or something like that. She's been around forever, but she's still only 45 and it's also the birthday of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Phil Gordon: What?

Dave Margolis: He's been on the news as well.

Phil Gordon: Wow. He's got to be near 80.

Dave Margolis: So with You're much, I mean, it's not even a comparison, your your your knowledge of foreign politics, etc., is way, way beyond mine.

Phil Gordon: ah

Dave Margolis: now netanyahu netanyahu from just what i pick up i mean he seems to be kind of like um kind of a negative figure in politics, kind of a little...

Dave Margolis: too much of a hawk uh unyielding and not ready to go is that do i have a good picture of him and

Phil Gordon: Oh.

Dave Margolis: And why is he hanging on?

Phil Gordon: You're... You're being kind Many would call him a war criminal, Dave.

Dave Margolis: Okay.

Phil Gordon: He is up for. Election. soon in Israel. And I'm not sure how that's looking, but... The Israeli public is...

Phil Gordon: Very split. I don't know if as split as the American public, but... Netanyahu has his supporters and he has many detractors as well. And there were.

Phil Gordon: certainly an ongoing corruption issue. Regarding... ah Some... legislation that regarding judicial appointments.

Phil Gordon: that he was suffering from, and many... Many that dislike him claim. That he... prolongs the war to avoid coming to terms with the courts on this corruption charge.

Phil Gordon: So here's a mixed bag. I personally find them a bit hawkish. I do think he led Trump by the nose into the Iranian situation.

Phil Gordon: And...

Dave Margolis: Well, i think also I think that's true.

Phil Gordon: well

Dave Margolis: and and I think similarly Trump was happy to get into the war because the Epstein files situation was really starting to bubble up. around that time. and And he was successful in getting it pushed to the back burner. But, you know.

Phil Gordon: Well, they're there're they're two peas, you know.

Dave Margolis: It would be a terrible subject.

Phil Gordon: There are two peas in a knish, Dave, those two.

Dave Margolis: All right. On the 23rd. Of October, it's the birthday of the movie... Movie star Ryan Reynolds, you know Ryan Reynolds, we're very familiar with Ryan Reynolds.

Phil Gordon: Course.

Dave Margolis: And also... ah Ahem. One of our favorites, the actress Margaret Qualley.

Phil Gordon: Margaret Qualley, who we were just talking about, and her mother, of course. A very famous actress as well.

Dave Margolis: She you just saw her in i heard the movie with her mom with annie mcdonnell as her mother and you just saw them in

Phil Gordon: Andy McDowell, of course, of Groundhog Day fame. And she was in a series, actually, Dave.

Dave Margolis: Alright.

Phil Gordon: It was a Netflix series. The title escapes me, but she played a single mom. It's a very dramatic.

Dave Margolis: hu

Phil Gordon: uh series and uh she's quite good at it and andy mcdowell also plays her mom in it

Dave Margolis: that cool have

Phil Gordon: quite It was quite entertaining.

Dave Margolis: Margaret Qualley known for Well, she was just in the movie Blue Moon that we saw about the songwriter Lawrence Hart.

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave Margolis: She was also in... Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. which I've been...

Phil Gordon: She was great at that.

Dave Margolis: I saw recently and I'm kind of going back through and kind of watching it in pieces. like because i really I really like that movie. I like it. I don't like everything Tarantino does, but some things he does I really like a lot. and that's what I liked a lot.

Phil Gordon: that was That was a really exciting movie.

Dave Margolis: Yep, yep. Also, yeah the know the actress um Amelia known for Game gay of Thrones, and she's done a bunch of other things as well. and just

Phil Gordon: I see.

Dave Margolis: always find her very She seems like she doesn't take herself too seriously and she's Always a pleasant figure to have around. Oh, back to politics on the 26th. It's the birthday of...

Dave Margolis: gi Rudy Giuliani's favorite mantra. Hillary Clinton!

Phil Gordon: Whoa!

Dave Margolis: Hillary Clinton.

Phil Gordon: Oh my god!

Dave Margolis: Let's go for it.

Phil Gordon: Well, Of course, she also has not announced her plans for 2028, Dave, but let's not get her started.

Dave Margolis: uh Also on the 25th of October, Katy Perry, who's also become kind of a political figure because she's... ah grow friends of the Canadian Prime Minister at this time.

Dave Margolis: And.

Phil Gordon: and I did not realize that.

Dave Margolis: Yeah. and uh also and previously married to russell brand. who's got the zone issues. And then also...

Phil Gordon: Sure. Also great music though.

Dave Margolis: Also brand the ah the comedian Oh, you're talking about Katy Perry? Yep. Yep.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave Margolis: um and uh October 25th, also the birthday of Pablo Picasso.

Phil Gordon: Oh.

Dave Margolis: You Picasso fan, Phil?

Phil Gordon: Well. I am a huge Picasso fan. And of course, having lived in Chicago much of my life, the... I can remember to this day the unveiling of the great Picasso sculpture. and ah Cook County pleasure.

Phil Gordon: downtown and it's a beautiful piece of artwork. I just saw it this summer. It holds up so well. I love Picasso's work.

Dave Margolis: That's something. Let's go.

Phil Gordon: Great for you.

Dave Margolis: Not the bean.

Phil Gordon: No. It's a few blocks from the beam.

Dave Margolis: okay

Phil Gordon: This is the statue. It's kind of a dark brown. Started out bronze. And it's, a you know, very feminine figure.

Dave Margolis: oh

Phil Gordon: Uh... I'd encourage anyone to look it up online. and See the Picasso statue. I cannot. Recall the title of the statue, but It's beautiful.

Dave Margolis: Okay. We'll come back. We'll come back to that. We'll catch up later. What else we got here on the 28th? of October. Bill Gates has a birthday.

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave Margolis: what what do you What do you get for him?

Phil Gordon: Wow I think you'd have to just make a donation to his charity at this point, Dave, because what could not that man have? Although I do see him hawking. memory supplements.

Dave Margolis: Really?

Phil Gordon: Yeah, I mean he seems to be doing it because he believes in this product and his research into... you know, Alzheimer's disease and that, so.

Dave Margolis: my

Phil Gordon: I'm not sure. i You haven't seen this, huh?

Dave Margolis: no huh

Phil Gordon: I can't make up my mind if it's not like a hoax AI generated thing or if it's really him.

Dave Margolis: It seems like. Because you see all these...

Phil Gordon: But.

Dave Margolis: you see all these ads for for memory supplements and the people rave about them and then you see the graphic that says,

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave Margolis: The government has not tested this. uh they cannot make any claims or things like that so

Phil Gordon: Right. Well, ah despite his work in memory, Davey, he doesn't seem to be able to shed much light on the Epstein files.

Dave Margolis: Yeah. Thank you. can't wait to see how that turns out. It's also on the same day as Bill Gates, Caitlyn Jenner. Turning the news.

Phil Gordon: Sure.

Dave Margolis: Thank you.

Phil Gordon: Well, you just mentioned the Kardashians earlier.

Dave Margolis: Yep. Caitlin Jenner and and Julia Roberts, also the same day. And on October 31st, which is Halloween, Phil, as you know, my son was born on Halloween and so was appropriately John Candy.

Dave Margolis: was and was a Halloween birthday as well.

Phil Gordon: Wow. Ellen.

Dave Margolis: and uh

Phil Gordon: A happy birthday to both.

Dave Margolis: there And I think, oh, we should do some baseball stuff. Juan Soto's birthday is coming up this month. He'll be 28 also. Mookie Betts and Bryce Harper.

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave Margolis: Happy birthdays. birthdays you know, in our tools.

Phil Gordon: All right. Uh... Bryce Harper with a shot to celebrate his birthday in the postseason. I don't think Juan Soto will be doing that.

Dave Margolis: now He's eliminated. And just very quickly in October, October 3rd was the day of the shot heard around the world, Bobby Thompson's home run.

Dave Margolis: when the New York Giants won the pennant in 1951, one of the classic baseball moments. October.

Phil Gordon: Great.

Dave Margolis: Do you have any memories of Bobby Thompson? A little before our time.

Phil Gordon: No, but I have great memories of the wonderful play -by -play call of that home run.

Dave Margolis: the giants win the pennant the giants win the pennant

Phil Gordon: fly Classic baseball moment.

Dave Margolis: All right. October 9th is the day, I remember this well, was the date that Spiro Agnew resigned. I believe that's the only vice president we ever had that resigned. And.

Phil Gordon: So far.

Dave Margolis: Boy, uh...

Phil Gordon: I'll get a pen for JD Vance if he's willing, Dave.

Dave Margolis: I'm just going to say. If you knew what why Agnew resigned... And you look at the the stuff that goes on in Washington today that no one has ever had to face any accountability for. I mean, Spiro Agnew, he really got screwed. All he did was take a bribe.

Dave Margolis: You know?

Phil Gordon: Well, by today's standards, Jim.

Dave Margolis: That's enough of him. That's nothing. I remember it because that was 1973 and i was in I was a freshman in college.

Phil Gordon: Uh...

Dave Margolis: And I was watching the Mets. and the Oakland A's World Series. in 1973 and uh I think they broke in and now Spiro Agnew had resigned.

Dave Margolis: Um, And I...

Phil Gordon: They probably did. Dave, I think Spiro would have included you and I in the nattering nabobs of negativism.

Dave Margolis: right Yes, he was there. He was Nixon's... Nixon's... junkyard dog who would kind of go around and insult everybody, which now has become a role for the president himself.

Dave Margolis: but back then it wasn't considered.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave Margolis: correct that way. um

Dave Margolis: What else do we have here? on like October, oh, well this is, I looked this one up, October 22nd. appropriate to nothing is that it is Caps lock day.

Phil Gordon: I'm a failure, Dave.

Dave Margolis: Locking all your capital letters, you know when people send texts and they're in all caps and things

Phil Gordon: oh Oh, caps lock.

Dave Margolis: yeah luck yeah I don't know why there's a day for it, but there's a day for Caps.

Phil Gordon: Okay, I get it now.

Dave Margolis: I guess you have to do all of your texting in all caps.

Phil Gordon: Bye.

Dave Margolis: but

Phil Gordon: Certainly, President Trump must celebrate that holiday.

Dave Margolis: and and And...

Phil Gordon: In all caps.

Dave Margolis: And this one, it's right before Halloween, and it's... It touches my heart because I used to have a black cat and I always loved black cats and it's Black Cat Appreciation Day.

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave Margolis: I appreciate it.

Phil Gordon: Well, they need a day, Dave.

Dave Margolis: Appreciation Day, and that is special days in October film.

Phil Gordon: they We should have a date.

Dave Margolis: That's what it is.

Phil Gordon: Well, always a treat Dave. Thank you for doing that. You know, we talked about the 25th anniversary of 9 -11 with Rudy Giuliani. I also alluded to the...

Phil Gordon: midterm Republican convention. i I had a few thoughts on that, if I could take a few minutes to share that with you, Dave.

Dave Margolis: oh

Phil Gordon: And our audience, of course. On the 25th anniversary of 9 -11. You'd hope that Trump would be reverent. And yet he took the time to say.

Phil Gordon: that he was at ground zero. At the time, it had to be carried out. Bye. Two firemen, as he put it. Two firemen, Dave. bigru fire and Big, Big strapping guys.

Dave Margolis: but with

Phil Gordon: They grabbed me from behind and ran me away from the collapsing tower, Dave. They grabbed me with their big mitts Dave. I mean they had big mitts like I used to

Dave Margolis: and and you're And you're not the smallest guy in the world either. ah you're You're off line.

Dave Margolis: Well, Phil seems to be offline for some reason. We have a technical problem here. I'm sure we'll be back shortly. but Yeah, as he yeah mentioned, Donald Trump has had many stories about what he was doing on 9 -11. One time he claims that he saw Muslims celebrating in New Jersey.

Dave Margolis: He watched the watch the planes hit and now he's saying that he was actually rescued by a very...
