Speaker: Welcome everybody to another edition of Speedway Stories. It's your boy Wally here. Um,
Speaker: everybody to another addition of speedway stories that your boy wall are here um Welcome, everybody. Zempius, what's going on, brother? How you doing tonight, man? um Tonight, as you see, we're doing a rough truck panel tonight. I sent out invites to some of the guys.
Speaker: If they join us, they'll be in. Last night was the local hometown show. It's the Super Bowl Tough Trucks here in Ohio. A lot of the guys that were guests on the show and everything showed up and showed out last night and everything. I got a couple videos I'm going to share with you guys for the night and everything else.
Speaker: And we're going to get this ball rolling and everything. And I got it right now backstage. i also got one of the top three finishers from last night, too, um hanging out backstage, actually heading towards a race for a race tomorrow that he's putting on for Full Throttle Monster Trucks down in Claremont, Ohio.
Speaker: So we'll get with Wes here in a little bit. Let's check out his third-place run from last night.
Speaker: There's that run. And then here last night is my Jeep running. Unfortunately, I did not run it last night. I let a buddy of mine drive it.
Speaker: He did pretty good with it and everything else. I'm racing, actually driving myself. I can monster truck go tomorrow night as prepared.
Speaker: So yeah.
Speaker: ah yeah last night ended up being a good time and everything else. A lot of guys there. um Congratulations to Logan Ellis driving Nick Anderson Central Ohio modified last night.
Speaker: ay He made a three-peat. Needless to say, between first and third, which West was third, there was maybe a total of a second, second and a half separating third and first place last night. So,
Speaker: it was It was some tight racing and everything else. in the um My good buddy, Joseph Sheets from Loud and Rowdy Racing that i'm part of and everything else, he ended up making the top 25. And
Speaker: and and Jared Dar, that's part of the group and stuff. and Everybody did good last night and everything. Without further ado, Wes is actually joining us from
Speaker: Yeah, yeah, as if you shut up.
Speaker: Let's bring Wes up. What's happening, buddy? What's going on, man? Oh, not much. Congratulations on third last night. That was a hell of a pass, especially the second one.
Speaker: Yeah, we did. We gave her a little bit more. We did a little work over the winter, and that's my first time again, really, to open her up and see what she could do, and uh had a little bit of was a hesitation stutter issue in that uh tight section there there uh gotta figure that out god think it's carburetor issue maybe bowls not adjust after we did some ah engine work but we'll get there oh you'll definitely get it out
Speaker: Yeah. Zimpheus, I don't know what's going on then with your ordeal. If you're watching on your phone, you may have to come out. What's up, Pat? Oh, dude, everybody had a great time last night, man. it was it was Everybody showed up and showed out, especially the mod guys.
Speaker: That top 10 was a lot tighter. But, yeah, the top three positions, like I said, from Wes's third place to the first place, there was at least a second and a half.
Speaker: I mean, whew. it was It was a driver's game. ah It was one and a half seconds between me and Logan. That's pretty damn good, considering, you know, the last couple years he's been putting at least two or three seconds on everybody when he's ran.
Speaker: Well, he's in a different truck now. Yep. I'm sure that... he he's so He's still getting used to that truck. That's only a second time behind the wheel. He's going to be dangerous, but we can't... As we've seen last night, you can't count out the rest of us, because...
Speaker: Me and Seesaw are two guys normally don't fare too well, especially at Knox. and You guys were in the top top three, man. that That was awesome because, I mean, literally, you two knocked out the the defending points champ, knocked him down into the top top five instead of being number one like he was for a while.
Speaker: So, I mean, that's that's pretty big that's a pretty big accomplish accomplishment. And... Like with your luck the last couple years at Knox, how does it feel to get that monkey off your back to get a top three like that, bud? ah Man, I'll tell you, we we went three years up there with nothing but issues. Two transfer cases and a rollover.
Speaker: Needless say, I had some vengeance on my back to get back on that track and get a... was shooting for a top five, but Once I hit the top 10 and seen how close it was, i was shooting for a podium finish. I never got it at any of the fair races. So it my ah first podium.
Speaker: So. Yeah, like I said, congratulations. And I mean, I mean, the thing of it is, i honestly, i don't know how you feel, but I think if Logan had a lot more seat time other than that being his second race,
Speaker: I still don't think it – I don't honestly think it would be close between you the top you three guys if he actually got more seat time and really knew that truck. don't know. It looked like he knew it pretty well last night. I'll tell you that.
Speaker: His second run, he came out swinging. hey yeah All I thought was Nick Anderson behind the wheel of it, the way he was driving it on that second run. Yeah, unfortunately I ended up having head out and didn't get to see the second pass of his and everything. it was – would have thought Nick was back in that truck.
Speaker: Oh, damn. That's scary. That's scary when the, when we're throwing that name out there again, being back in that truck, you know how he was. I'm telling you, it, it looked like it. And I was impressed.
Speaker: I'll say that for his second time in there. Um,
Speaker: so yeah, I mean, he, he, he's a driver. gotta give him to it, but, At the same time, me, the rest of us, we're learning our trucks and what we can do with them now, so I wouldn't count anybody out.
Speaker: Well, and I'll tell you what, to be honest with you, there was two people that impressed me last night when I seen their first runs, and that was Chris Glover and fucking Cecil.
Speaker: Cecil was out there on, he was on a mission last night when he was driving. No, you can't count out old Jarrett either. He hates He came out swinging. Yeah. He finished eighth. that' Oh, what's up, Jamie? Hopefully you're enjoying the derby, man.
Speaker: Was there any good turnout at the derby tonight? But, yeah. I'll tell you what. Jared Stevens, that was sweet seeing him get a top ten. Finally. Finally.
Speaker: that He's got bragging rights. He beat Dale Knox. Yeah. I mean, it's for the Super Bowl, I've been happy with the top 10, but to get that top three, I'm just over the moon.
Speaker: Dude, like I said, though, these last two or three years, man, that was a monkey you had to get off your back. so Yeah, that one, and then, I mean, honestly, any of these races I've been having issues at. We're finally, our trucks, it's not 100%, it's 95%.
Speaker: but it it's ninety five It's working. get that Get that stumble out of it. and I think it might have been a little bit closer than what it was.
Speaker: Oh, I'm sure it would have, especially in that last turn. That's where it got you. we're Yeah. they're Going into the last turn for the long jump. I'll tell you what. I had to wheel that truck over there.
Speaker: That last corner was slicker and shit. I don't know why. Yeah. It wasn't wet. It must have just been all that loose dirt on top where everybody was just running it up.
Speaker: But it was slick. I had a hard time keeping the truck straight, getting lined up. I let off, so I didn't hit the damn rail. Oh, yeah. well and Well, as you've seen throughout, I've seen throughout most of the night, a lot of the guys going in, coming into the long jump was getting all squirrely and shit because it was slick on top of that.
Speaker: Well, I don't think, too, with them watering it down, and that was that track was still pretty much set up from the pulling track. So you some of the tackiness still, and then you added water on the surface to make it a little little muddy. kind of didn't help matters none either. It did not help. I mean, honestly, if you look at my first run compared to my second run, um going into the long jump, I cut it tighter on the second run, where on the first run went a little wide.
Speaker: That's the video I played. That was your first run, actually. What's up, Branson? Thanks for tuning in, man. That first run, it was actually a better lead up to the long jump.
Speaker: Which, yeah if you think about it, really shouldn't make sense because it should have been drier towards the end. so think You'd think it would have been, but it seemed like it from everybody's top ten videos I've seen on Facebook today,
Speaker: It looked like it got a little more slicker as the night went on instead of drying out. So, yeah, that corner got slicker. Everything else dried up and was good. I mean.
Speaker: Well, ask Chavis about that, about going to line up for the long jump during his run. That cost him a top ten. Yeah. Yeah. but I mean, hell, that guy in Al's truck can't do bad. if he gets No, aaron and Aaron's getting that truck figured out for his second time running, too, since he's got that truck. I think he finished 10th.
Speaker: so yep hey hey got He got a top 10 second time in a truck at Super Bowl. That's that's saying something. Especially how familiar that truck is with Al driving it all these years.
Speaker: yeah Yeah, I mean...
Speaker: Yeah, that that that's one that's a one-off truck, and if he gets that rear steer figured out, that's where that truck comes into play. Oh, yeah. that's gonna be That's going to be the trick, is him getting that four-wheel steering down.
Speaker: But, yeah, I'm with you. If he gets that figured out, look out, because the power's there for it and everything else.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean... And Aaron's a good driver, man. I mean, I ain't gonna take nothing away from him. He can drive. No, I'm not taking anything away from any of the guys out there. i mean, when... How do want to put this?
Speaker: It's anybody's race, really. Yeah. I mean, all gonna take is All it's going to take, i mean, look, look, a a little hiccup, like we'll use Chavis, for example, that truck of his is usually always a top 10.
Speaker: And he had that one little mishap and it kept him out of the top 10. And that can go for anybody though. Oh yeah. I mean, when it started, when my truck started stuttering and shit and everybody told me I was in, i was third and then I got pushed down and whatever.
Speaker: i was like, seriously? Like I, I, I didn't think it would be because of my hiccups right there where damn near shut off on me. Right. I mean, yeah.
Speaker: But you look at the top 25 list with a lot of the stock guys that are in there, like my buddy Joseph. Once again, top 25 second year, and you know, the last three years in a row. I mean, at Brad's Bronco.
Speaker: He top 10. Yeah, he was top 10 with that Bronco. Hey. Hey. I expect nothing less from a Bronco, though. oh You don't know this Bronco. I don't know how the damn thing's still holding together.
Speaker: That's bullshit. Yeah, it's this truck is... This is this was Brad's... It's been Brad's baby for years. a guy I wouldn't call it his baby. I might call it his... Nightmare?
Speaker: For lack of terms. I'll call it his little dirty whore. Yeah. who That's the way it gets treated. It's unfaithful then. But I'll tell you what.
Speaker: That truck has been consistent for him, though, with him behind the wheel of it. Oh, 100%. But you can throw anybody in that truck, and you're getting a top 10. Yep, as long as you're not afraid. Oh, no, seriously. I mean, his brother was top 10 when he was driving it until he broke his back.
Speaker: His cousin drove it for the second... what are the top 10 run out there. Yeah, and kept it in the top 10. Tyler did, yeah. Yeah, so I mean that and it makes zero sense on how that truck works so well.
Speaker: And the thing of it is, is all factory over the shelf fucking shit. Yeah. i mean that's not even the same engine he had in it when he was racing it. racing it No, because the engine that was in originally and it's in the modified now. yeah.
Speaker: That's what I'm saying. it makes It makes... That's the one truck that defies everything yep everybody does. Oh, yeah. But it works. so it's And it's consistent.
Speaker: Like we said, it's a consistent fucking truck. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Exactly. Exactly. but but yeah i mean I mean, for him to put both in the top 10, that's insane, especially at the Super Bowl of Tough Trucks, you know, for somebody to accomplish that feat.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, I mean, the the crappy part about it was he wanted to throw his daughter in it, but the fair board didn't let him. Yeah, they they they fucking cracked down on that this year after all these years of letting runners and shit run.
Speaker: It's not like she's really a flipping minor. She's a year under what they want. Yeah. like, come on. Yeah, it didn't stop them last year. But there but like like me and Jamie were talking today when he dropped my Jeep off and shit.
Speaker: He goes, they want to be strict on on the tough trucks, but tonight, like the Derby going on, but they'll let... 13 and 14 year olds run without their parents being in the car or whatever at the dirt But you want to make a big you want to make a big deal about ah the rough truck shit and It's like oh speaking the derbies have you seen all the shit going on on Facebook about derby? I was the one guy i I was gonna bring that up was one of the things yeah, that's a distracts a black eye on derbies man that I was
Speaker: That guy was out for vengeance, and it was wrong. He posted it on Facebook before he fucking did it. Yep. I ran derbies before.
Speaker: I'm not... Those driver door hits happen. Yes, they're going to happen. But not like he's made it happen. No. don't full track somebody into the driver's door. I'm sorry. You don't do that.
Speaker: Well, and then... But yeah, that situation, it's he's pretty much been banding. Even the promotion in Australia, their derby promotions even banned him over in Australia. Yeah.
Speaker: He's banned from damn near every derby. and he kick it And then he goes goes on to the derby or whoever banned him and says he's going to get the cops involved and all that. Like, dude, stop.
Speaker: And the bad part is he got arrested that night. For doing that at the show. Yeah. You gotta learn when to stop. you hear me um And like Wes said, and it's speaking from driver being a Derby driver on top of it, yes, you are going to get tagged in your door because you get in a cluster, but this dude literally went from one end of the track on a dead vehicle and full tracked him in his driver's door and put him in the hospital.
Speaker: But I guess there's a thing. This guy's had, I guess from what everybody said, he ain't the first time to do he's had it out for the dude for ah years.
Speaker: Well, yeah, that, but it wasn't his first time no doing shady shit. Yep. He's done like pretty much all of his shows. Isn't there like a national list they can put him on where he can't participate anywhere?
Speaker: Well, it's pretty much that way now. Yeah, he's pretty much black flag from everywhere. All over the world. Not just in the United States. All over the world that puts a derby on.
Speaker: Yeah, I'd fucking say so. yeah Well, wait and here's the thing about normal derby family. Yes, we're all out there to win. Yes, you're going to get in fights, but ain't nobody going full track you like that.
Speaker: No. and like Into your driver's door. No, not in the driver's door at all. You'll get full tracked everywhere else, but the driver's doors are, it's always an off limits between everybody. That's a little to build.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah, and like I said it does happen, but not fucking. Not like that. Balls to the wall and gonna run your car all the way out the other side of the arena just because you don't like it some bitch. it It's, yeah like like you said, it's bad thing that's happened for the derby world because i guarantee every derby insurance just shot up oh they did a bad look well i mean it's bad enough with the you know just trying to get a motorsports event put on now that's going to hurt not only the derby insurance that's going to hurt any promoter for i'm putting on any motorsports show now oh yeah and in that's the thing people don't understand like at the rough trucks, derbies, all across, i don't give a shit what it is, anything motorsports, is if you get stupid and something happens, it's coming. It's not coming. It's going to come back on you, but it's coming back on the promoter and the insurance, and then it's going to be harder for us to keep doing what we do.
Speaker: Yeah, and then it's going to be just basically you get to stare at four corners and not have the motorsports entertainment at fairs no more or special events that, They ran out of fairgrounds to put on, you know?
Speaker: i mean oh yeah. yeah so in the I'm doing my first show. I'm heading up there now. I'm in goddamn construction for... It's been way too long.
Speaker: Gotta love to have construction. Yeah, but the thing is, ive got people asking me, can my kid run in this? And I'm like,
Speaker: um I was thinking about it, but then I'm like, no. Just nope. Nope. We're not doing it. I am not risking insurance because I want to let... That's a fucking liability. Well, it's not only that. Like he brought up, now with the black eye all over social media because of what happened at one derby event because a guy wanted to be a total douchebag, it's now everybody is literally dotting their I's and crossing their T's on pushing the envelope of being safe with letting certain shit go at at their events. You've got to be now.
Speaker: And the thing is is, I'm working under another guy, so this ain't just my show. It is, but it ain't, if that makes sense. So, I got to watch out for him, which is full throttle, and he's one of the biggest
Speaker: Right. West Rose on us. I figured he would. Well, I'm going to bring my son up because he got to run last night. We're going to have him talk about his experience.
Speaker: Way to go, West. You moved. Hey, we're going to bring my boy up and let him talk about last night and everything else and his little fun escapade. right. The fucking drunk driver. What's up, guys?
Speaker: What's this? Hey, how by the way, how's the neck feeling this morning? Little rough. What the hell happened? What did miss? He got fucking whiplashed last night. From the long jump? Yes. oh yeah yeah He got sideways and it yard darted. It freaking yard darted on the driver's side and he went forward and got a good taste of whiplash last night. so oh Been there before ran that up there.
Speaker: yeah Well, he found out firsthand what it's like to have it. so It's not fun. So, so Damien, what was it like to literally, I know your nerves and everything just from being up waiting for you to run.
Speaker: What was it like to run in front of the hometown crowd for only your ever second ever rough truck race since you can't stay on course either, dickhead. It happened, man. it happened man It was definitely interesting. It was a good feeling because I've always wanted to do this.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. And I'm taking over for you since you're retiring, so. Eventually. I ain't broken hat yet. Ah, well. We'll see what happens.
Speaker: There's still a lot of race season left. We'll see what happens. We'll see if you actually decide to get beyond that wheel or an not or you're going to have let me drive it so you can see what it's like. That's fine.
Speaker: i least at least you At least you stay on the course. Hey, no. the dark I try to, but if it gets all cattywampus, I like that loud pedal a little bit too much.
Speaker: the But no. minute I mean, it was awesome to get you finally get you to get in. And we'll shout out my buddy, Leif Johnson, for giving you the opportunity and everything else to drive one of his vehicles. So, I mean, it was nice.
Speaker: But... Yeah, you definitely took a learning curve from last night. Stay on the track. ah Let's be honest here. The track wasn't too hard. So, I mean, what's going on, buddy?
Speaker: Needless to say, made it past the first jump, made it over the whoop sections, made the second jump, and decided to drive Dye straight down the center. It didn't even touch any of the other shit.
Speaker: oh He said, fuck it, I'm going for a long jump. That's pretty much what it ended up being. And then he got whiplash in the process. but Like a monkey's uncle.
Speaker: Oh, well. yeah It's all right. This time next year when he runs an ox, he ain't going to worry about whiplash because his ass will have a five-point harness and everything else. so You still got worry about it, buddy. I hate to tell you that. You do.
Speaker: Even with the Hans device on, still got to worry about it. Oh, yeah. That 78 F-150 I ran up there, had a 460. I ill took it 50 foot off the end.
Speaker: Five-point harness, race seat, all that. I still had whiplash. Well, i remember when I remember when Tyler was talking about with him wearing his, the first time he wore the Hans, he still got whiplash because he didn't have it adjusted right.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. I mean, I don't wear a horn. Yeah, dude. ah I don't wear a Hans. I probably should. Yeah, the way you fucking drive, you should. What do you mean? That was a good run last night.
Speaker: Yeah. might be It might be a little on the out-of-control side there for a couple of it, but we got her back in. We reeled her in. But, yeah, I mean, it was it was nice. gar I mean, fucking having everybody there, and it fantastic. What really made it awesome last night, and Wes can attest to this, is having Corey there and everything else sitting and watching everybody race and getting to hang out with him. him and asz well yeah Corey from Webrook Garage, one of my sponsors, showed up and showed out cheering Wes and everybody else and me on and everything. so i mean It was good. Nice.
Speaker: What do you now, Wes? thank I went through a bad service i I'm going yeah i mean on my way to fucking Cincinnati. so I'll probably lose you here soon.
Speaker: It's picking the bars back up. We're going back up in the bars. We might be all right. yeah but it but It was great as always to have the whole whole rough truck family there and everything else. and i mean Like I said, the top 25, that list is that list had a list of the stalker guys in there um i mean big strides shout out to jared dar man he had that jeep on rails he had a little hiccup um i talked to him earlier before the show he's coming to run the monster truck try to get into the monster truck show he found out his four-wheel drive's kicking in and out on him so he's trying to he's been working on that thought that motherfucker
Speaker: Hey, tell him to get a big-ass hose clamp and hose clamp. were And, of course, Westbrook South. There you go. But, yeah, but, I mean, Jared showed out. He was just a few spots out of the top ten.
Speaker: um But, yeah, there was a lot of – I mean, a lot of the guys, it was there. There was a lot of the mod guys. I mean, they were they were just knocking on the door just couldn't get into the top ten. I mean – Former guests. Uh, I'll be glad. I'm shout them out.
Speaker: Brock, if you're listening, dude, you move in. I hope you get everything figured out. You had a pass going and I, your truck kicked up on you at the wrong time, buddy. I'm sorry to see that happen, but, but yeah, I mean, everybody was right there. It was, it was a close close this year. I mean, it was, it was a good, good year again. um Next up is the monster truck show for most of us.
Speaker: Next big fair race is actually Croton. um So it's going to be interesting. Oh, boy. Give me one second, guys. Damien, you and Wes talk for a minute. Hang on.
Speaker: I didn't do too bad last night. I took 35th out of 85 trucks. I ain't bad.
Speaker: Not bad for my first time. There's still a few things could have done better.
Speaker: So, my first time was in 96 Grand Cherokee at Kishok.
Speaker: Summer race, I took 19,050. So, that was good run. So, that was a good run um
Speaker: so
Speaker: in the top 25 whatsoever. over So, yeah, I wouldn't be upset about that at all. Speaking of Brad, when I get off the show, I gotta go help Brad read some breaks on the ah un the modified. They get her fixed up?
Speaker: Yeah. Yep.
Speaker: Thanks, Gould.
Speaker: Yeah, he did a little bit of damage to that damn thing. Yeah, it was bad. So did Jared. Jared broke the same caliber off the same wheel.
Speaker: Oh, Jesus. Yeah, I know when Brad was done with the first truck, he had smoke coming out the top of the hood. So he cut his top radiator hose
Speaker: on the Bronco and we taped it back together.
Speaker: Both both ah Brad and Jarrett broke the same caliber the same wheel. Yeah, I know. And Jarrett broke his fuel tank.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: so whens it When you got to get... ah Buy a modified, buddy. I know where there's a good one for sale.
Speaker: We've been talking about it.
Speaker: Actually, if I were you, i would jump all over that stonewall truck. That's a good truck for a very good price. Oh, yeah. Dwayne's truck, yeah. I would... You can't pass that up for what he sold. That's a steal for what he sold on that thing for. If you want me to be honest, I should ia known now what If I known now what I should have known then, i would bought his truck over my truck.
Speaker: But now I wouldn't trade my truck for anything. Right. Well, I mean, you got a lot of time. You guys got a lot of time and sweating that.
Speaker: Pat, I mean, I agree with you on that. Pat brings up a good point guys. I think he he thinks head and neck restraint should be mandatory. Yeah, some type of caller something, you know to help but my thing is see that Once again, this kind of comes back on Should be on the fair boards unless you're legit doing like West does the monster truck shows Pat like you guys do out there for Matt Motorsports and you know the Midwest tough truck series and
Speaker: You guys implement neck collars, helmet, shit like that. Recommend harnesses for your guys' is races. But trying to get the fair board to understand this stuff, it's it's hard. Good luck.
Speaker: and yeah Exactly. well Like I said, Wes can attest to this. The fair boards have to be on because they don't care. They're getting their money. They're putting asses in in the stands and collecting money.
Speaker: it They say the they're for the safety. Yes, they should push a little more on the safety. I mean, it ain't going to take much. I mean, my son, the bad part is he wore my neck collar, which is a little too big.
Speaker: I think still he may have got it. It would have helped a little bit if he had one his size, but he could have still got whiplash, but it wouldn't be nearly as bad as he got it. so But, yes, we are on safety. I mean, I get safety.
Speaker: Oh, I mean, and this goes back to, I call it common sense. i on the network You're fired. I got to take you off the show now. You said common sense.
Speaker: Yeah. i mean, I can't believe the amount modified guys I've seen that don't wear full fire suits. No, they don't. To me, it's common sense.
Speaker: er I'm back.
Speaker: But, you know, that's hard to make mandatory is fire suits and you know, I got fire shoes, everything.
Speaker: Right. That's something that's hard to make make a rule because some guys say, oh, I can get it out in time. That may be true, but There's going that one time you don't, and then it's going to be mandatory.
Speaker: Right. Well, i mean I mean, you can ask anybody that's ever ran the Jamborees. That was mandatory even in the stock class. It was a fire jacket, either the but you had to either wear a jeans or a full fire suit.
Speaker: You had the helmet, and you had to have a neck collar or some kind of support to run even the stock Jamboree. along with and But the modified guys... You had to have the full fire suits.
Speaker: Which, I mean, na we're running... Most of the guys are at running 110, 112. Some guys are running higher than that. And that shit burns. And it burns and it burns and then burns and it melts.
Speaker: When it's on fire, it melts. yeah It's quick. It's not slow. it And sometimes you can't see the goddamn flame. Nope. Because...
Speaker: Me and my dad had talked about going to meth. Turned my truck into an alcohol running truck. Save on fuel costs and shit like that.
Speaker: But the more we started looking into it and doing our research, yeah, I wasn't no part of it. Well, that's it' like and it's just like even we can bring up for drag racing even though we're talking tough truck.
Speaker: Nitro methane. It melts fire suits even with their their certified suits that they got. I mean, John Force is a living proof of having his suit fucking melted. I mean, come on.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, and that's what... I don't want to say people don't understand. i I fully think they understand. They understand the risk. They know what they're getting into. yeah But it's always it's always that one deal.
Speaker: All it takes is that one time that can... severely hurt you or cost you your life? Because, I mean, I've been pretty lucky with my rollovers. My truck hasn't caught fire.
Speaker: I've been pretty fucking lucky with that. I'm not going lie.
Speaker: Have I seen rough trucks roll and catch fire? You're right, I have. Michael Springs in that one year, 2023. Well, there's no more than that. Well, I'm just saying, though, the most recent was 2023. Yeah.
Speaker: That I've seen. And then you had Logan's old truck last year at Delaware. Yeah, that's the one I was talking about. yep And they ran in alcohol in that thing. Yeah.
Speaker: That shit goes and goes down. There ain't no two ands, if, buts about it. It's going and it see you later. Bye.
Speaker: That's probably why that truck ain't back out yet. Probably. They probably had to redo everything. And I wouldn't be surprised. But also at same time, you got somebody that didn't know what they had.
Speaker: They just know it was a a winning truck and everything else. And it was somebody who didn't have the experience. That's the other thing about this stuff. It's a winning truck if you know how to drive it.
Speaker: It's not a winning truck. It's not. Let me put it in perspective for our listeners or whatever.
Speaker: 75% of these trucks are the driver. Oh, yeah. I would put 25%. I might even jump that back down to 50. I'd say it's almost 50, 50, 75, 25. It kind of depends on the track.
Speaker: know But you can have one badass truck. But if you can't drive it, it ain't worth the money you put into it. No. If you can't drive it, you're going to look like you're scared.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. And i'm yeah that's not that you're honest. I mean, hell, my first race in this, I looked like I was scared. Ain't no two ands if buts about it.
Speaker: Then I rolled the damn thing. I mean, you that's one thing you've got to understand in this sport. It's not a matter of if, it's when.
Speaker: You're going to roll. You're going to wreck. It's going to happen. i don't care when I say wreck. don't care if you just smack a wall. It's gonna happen. yu I mean, if you look back to my Guernsey County race, the only time I went up to Guernsey County,
Speaker: ah I sent it too hard on a set of doubles, and i had two options, hit the brakes, roll into the crowd, or hit the gas and hang on. I had to get the gas, destroy the concrete barrier into pieces,
Speaker: blew both my tires and bent my track arms. go But that's one thing you got to understand too, is if you know you can save that truck from hurting someone else and but potentially hurting yourself, you have to do that.
Speaker: There ain't no one going there to get hurt. And was it dumb on my part for hitting that jump like I did? Yes, but I also didn't think it was my truck was going to react like that.
Speaker: And you still knew that's thing. mean, that's the thing. I mean, there's a lot of the guys out there, and you can attest to seeing them. Their trucks run good and everything else, and one little hiccup, and you're you're in the danger zone.
Speaker: I mean, your example, Brock's had it happen. Tyler Peters has had it happen. Brad's had it happen a couple times in the Bronco. I mean...
Speaker: Then you had Dustin that one year at Delaware. He launched it and went end over end. Oh, that was horrible. Yeah, that was that was scary. That was very scary. I was the first one to him.
Speaker: but But, I mean, it is. and And then you see the videos of these other races. Like out out west, pat those guys, they're they're just like the rest of us. They've had their wrecks and stuff. it's just let's Let's talk about
Speaker: Look at his wreck. Oh, yeah. I mean, that was not his fault whatsoever. so The throttle cable was stuck, and instead of putting anybody else in jail danger, he chose to put that truck into that wall.
Speaker: I give that man props. Because... That whole crew out there in PA, man... They're legit. They will they will hurt themselves and their trucks before they let any fans or any family get hurt. and eat And he proved that.
Speaker: Yeah. I mean, that's the same way I look at it. I mean, that's what, especially as modified, well, even the stock guys, because if we're going back to accidents, look what happened to Shorty.
Speaker: If that guy would have chose to hit the goddamn big-ass pile of concrete, It would never happen. well my er i yeah on that My thing on that situation, though, is the asshole knew he didn't have breaks. He should have never been out there in the first place.
Speaker: so I agree with that. But still, like you're saying, though, to avoid what actually happened, yes, he should have chose the other and put it into the pile instead of doing what he did. That's why it was there.
Speaker: I just, I don't understand when people choose to hurt other people and say, oh, this is gonna hurt, but it's only gonna hurt me. Because I'll tell you, 110%, I will put, I will total that truck out. I'll barrel roll that truck before it goes into goddamn crowd or anybody at risk. Oh, yeah.
Speaker: Well, it goes into crucial thinking and ultimately what that person's motive for crucial thinking would be in the long run. Exactly. Well, it is with shit. Yeah, his was shit.
Speaker: yeah I mean, i'm i and this is where it comes back to Wes's common sense comment he made. It goes out the fucking window when you pull something stupid like that. Well, he was also fucking drinking, too.
Speaker: I didn't know that part. I just knew about the brake situation. he knew he no There was beer can rolling out of that truck. Whoa. See, and that's another thing, that as much as I hate to say Fairs need to start cracking down on that shit.
Speaker: Yeah, man. And, you know, that's going to be my big thing up here. If I smell alcohol on your goddamn breath, you're going you're hitting the trailer. You're stopping before you hit the track, and you're stopping before you leave the track. Because I ain't having none this stupid crap happening at my race. I ain't doing it.
Speaker: Exactly. Well, and I mean, that's the thing. And you figure, well, that's like... With that incident, a lot of fares is kind of buckled down.
Speaker: That's one thing I like about Coshocton. you have In harford you have and Hartford, you have to legit prove you have working brakes from the start of the race to the end of the race.
Speaker: Yeah. I'm stealing that idea. and then you know It's good. Hell yeah, man. I told JR from day one,
Speaker: That was going to happen. That's going to be in my driver's meeting. If you don't do it, you're disqualified. Get the hell on your trailer and get out of my damn race. I don't care. If you're going to put everybody else at risk, cause you want to be stupid. Now, don't get me wrong.
Speaker: I know you lose brakes on the track sometimes. It that happens. that' That's different. But you got you know youve got to think about it.
Speaker: You need to go hit the concrete. and you run it up into a jump, hit the mud, shut it off, you got you gotta to do something to show me you're trying or um you're gone.
Speaker: I don't care. and not so I mean, that's the way it needs to be everywhere, though, possibly. I mean, if you're a driver, if you drove anything at all before, if you lose brakes, first thing you're going to do is downshift your transmission. Use your engine as a brake.
Speaker: That'll fucking slam the ditch and park and blow it up. Yeah. One of the two. I mean. Yeah. And that's the reason on my truck I run dual master cylinders.
Speaker: If, say, my front brake line breaks, I still have rear brakes. Say my rear brake line breaks, I still have front brakes. Because they're on two separate mounts. Well, that and also having the cutter brakes help out a lot, too, on that situation, well too. Well, the cutter brake runs into my front master cylinder, so if something happens, i'm not relying on those.
Speaker: Right. But, I mean, worst case scenario, there' there's that option, though. Worst case. Yeah. Yeah. But what I'm saying is... is
Speaker: Losing them again. He's going through his little... In the day, I'll still have two brakes. Yep. It's still one pedal. It's just two master cylinders ran off one pedal.
Speaker: So what time does your show start tomorrow on Claremont, Wes? 7 o'clock. Plus we got just we got the Knox County Monster Truck Full Throttle Show with Tough Trucks as well.
